Zach Bryan is a singer/songwriter from Oologah, Oklahoma, proud of his small-town roots and whose music is fueled by a desire to stay true to himself. The 25-year-old served 7 years in the Navy before being honorably discharged. His success is found in his raspy voice, a mix of classic folk melody and outlaw country with a raw edge that cuts to the bone. His breakthrough moment makes all that clear as day. In the video for “Heading South,” shot by phone outside of his Navy barracks in humid 95 degree heat, Zach’s passion echoes off the strings of his trusted Guild. Drenched in sweat and belting words that he had written minutes earlier, the moment is authentic, brutal, and real. Millions of fans have now seen that video without any sort of industry assist, and millions more have connected to the tender, sincere songs found on Zach’s 2019 debut album “DeAnn". A man of simple words, Zach’s ability to create depth in his work is rivaled by few artists. He believes that who you are only extends to the person you are today, an ideology reflected in everything he creates.

Drew Simmons

Why this company wants to recycle instrument strings across the globe , james rosemond jr., trending on billboard.

Ice Spice became a chart staple this year, notching four top 10 hits on the Hot 100 including collaborations with superstars like Taylor Swift and Nicki Minaj. For Rosemond, being able to pair Ice and producer RIOTUSA with Minaj on two of those tracks (“Princess Diana,” “Barbie World”) was particularly gratifying: “I get high on helping creatives achieve their dreams and positively change their socioeconomic status.”

Jesse Gassongo-Alexander, Phoebe Gold

Ages: 30, 29 Company: UpClose Key Clients: PinkPantheress, Tommy Gold

Gassongo-Alexander never planned to become a manager, but he says working with “a generational artist” like PinkPantheress has been an “incredible experience.” This year, the British artist-producer made her Hot 100 debut with the Ice Spice collaboration “Boy’s a liar Pt. 2” and was featured on the Barbie soundtrack. “By continually building trust with each other, we’ve navigated from the early days to now,” he says. Adds Gold: “Our flow has come from treating each other like human beings.”

Alistair Raymond

Age: 37 Company: Beatnik Creative/Blue Raincoat Artists Key Clients: Arlo Parks, Lana Lubany, Miso Extra

Aton Ben-Horin, Ethan Curtis

Ages: 43, 36 Company: Plush Management Key Clients: JVKE, Coi Leray, Faouzia

Ben-Horin, who is also executive vp of A&R at Warner Music Group, describes this year as “incredible,” citing Hot 100 top 10 hits like Coi Leray’s “Players” (produced by Plush client Johnny Goldstein) and JVKE’s “Golden Hour.” The latter also sold out his first tour without a major label or marketing budget beyond radio. “While understanding the short-form content world is important for management,” Curtis says, “even more important is finding talent that is social media native.”

Company: Jonzing World Entertainment Key Clients: Rema, Ruger

“The past 12 months have seen the biggest moments in the Afrobeats genre, which I am super happy I played a strong part in,” Okeke says. Thanks in part to a remix featuring Selena Gomez, Rema’s “Calm Down” became a global hit, reaching No. 3 on the Hot 100 and topping the Global Excl. U.S. chart, making Rema the first artist from Africa to reach No. 1. “The hunger and the joy to see a talent excel at the highest level brought me into this field,” Okeke says, “and has continuously influenced my stay here.”

Mandelyn Monchick

Age: 29 Company: Red Light Management Key Clients: Lainey Wilson, Meg McRee, Ben Chapman

James Vitalo

Age: 35 Company: Gold Theory Artists Key Clients: Turnstile, Knocked Loose, Beach Fossils

The past 12 months have been of growth for both Vitalo — who expanded his boutique firm one year after its launch — and Turnstile, which scored its first Grammy nominations (three total) and opened on blink-182’s arena tour. Vitalo, who first worked with the hardcore band as its booking agent before becoming its manager, says, “The biggest challenge has always been setting a realistic pace that will allow for longevity.”

Kristina Russo

Age: 34 Company: KR Experiments Key Client: GAYLE

Russo describes the past year as “a wild time,” during which GAYLE received her first Grammy nomination (for song of the year with breakout hit “abcdefu”) and opened for P!nk overseas and for Taylor Swift on The Eras Tour. But her biggest priority is guiding GAYLE through the whirlwind: “We are adamant she, as a person, comes first,” Russo says. “Mental, physical and emotional health are imperative in order to do her job. Shout out to our therapists.”

Tom Skoglund

Age: 35 Company: Full Stop Management Key Clients: Tate McRae, Harry Styles

Tate McRae scored two Hot 100 hits this year, including her fast-rising new single, “Greedy,” which arrived during her sold-out North American tour. Working on the pop artist’s next era has been “incredibly fulfilling,” Skoglund says, as was completing Harry Styles’ two-and-a-half-year Love on Tour trek. “Watching the meteoric success of Harry’s House being played to sold-out stadiums day in and day out will forever be a highlight of my career,” he says.

Heather Kolker

This year, Kolker (who started as an agent before switching to management) launched her own company while MUNA hit a high, touring with Taylor Swift and boygenius, selling out headlining shows and more. “You must believe that your artist can achieve the future they envision — and that you’re the right team to help get them there,” she says.

Danny Kang, Stefan Max

Key Client: Zach Bryan

Kang and Max have managed Zach Bryan through a breakout year, during which the country-rocker scored his first No. 1 album and Hot 100 chart-topper with “I Remember Everything,” featuring Kacey Musgraves. (This year alone, he has racked up 25 entries on the latter list.) His 2024 headlining tour will take him to arenas and, in some cases, stadiums.

Luis Villamizar

Age: 34 Key Client: Feid

This year, Feid charted a pair of top 10 hits on Hot Latin Songs while MOR, No le Temas a la Oscuridad became his highest-charting entry on Top Latin Albums at No. 4. “Forming such a valuable team was one of the greatest successes,” says Villamizar. “It’s not just one person.”

Sam Schulman

Age: 33 Company: Best Friends Music Key Clients: Bishop Briggs, Blake Rose, FINNEAS

Schulman credits her musician father and live music for inspiring her to become a manager. “The older I got, the more obsessed I became with the industry and wanting to be a part of it,” she says. That energy led to a major year: She co-founded Club Kassiani, a networking event for women in music, while her artists Blake Rose made his U.S. late-night TV debut and Bishop Briggs won the latest season of The Masked Singer . Schulman says her approach is all about “eliminating the ‘noise’ of what other artists are doing.”

Dani Russin

Russin met veteran manager Brandon Creed over a decade ago and “highly admired his ability for decision-making and diplomatic nature,” she says. She has worked with him ever since, this year joining his newly launched venture, Good World, where she enjoyed a “career highlight” working on Troye Sivan’s latest album campaign. Her history with Creed is her career’s only constant: “Management has always been a 24/7 job, but it’s also now this rapidly changing and ever-evolving ecosystem,” she says. “It’s what keeps things exciting. No two days are alike.”

Colette Patnaude Nelson, Eddie Wintle

Ages: 34, 36 Company: Expand Entertainment Key Clients: Conan Gray, J. Maya, Rowan Drake

Patnaude Nelson and Wintle, who together discovered Conan Gray as a high schooler on YouTube, agree that the biggest challenge for managers and artists today is cutting through the noise. “Building a fan base and getting people to care about your music is harder than ever,” Wintle says. It’s why watching 100,000 fans at Lollapalooza Argentina sing every word of Gray’s hourlong set in March was, as he recalls, “one of the craziest moments” of his career so far.

Jayne Andrew, Ty Baisden

Ages: 36, 39 Company: COLTURE Key Clients: Brent Faiyaz, Hamzaa, N3WYRKLA

Josh Marshall

Age: 32 Company: Mogul Vision Key Clients: d4vd, Rubi Rose

Though Marshall says he “fell into” management, the past year has solidified his path — and that of his company, Mogul Vision, with help from GM Robert Morgenroth. And while breakout star d4vd has scored a pair of Hot 100 hits and an opening slot on tour with SZA, Marshall has set his sights even higher: “The biggest challenge,” he says, “is creating infrastructure around an artist to grow their business long term beyond music.”

Holly Cartwright, Shira Knishkowy

Ages: 31, 35 Company: Another Management Company Key Clients: Blondshell, Alvvays, Waxahatchee

Knishkowy worked in label publicity and communications at Spotify before pivoting to management — and almost immediately, she and Cartwright helped discover and sign indie rock newcomer Blondshell. This year, the artist and alt-pop act Alvvays made their respective late-night TV debuts and grew their audiences globally. “Breaking new artists alongside Holly and finding new ways to elevate artists who have already achieved a level of success alongside [fellow managers] Rennie Jaffe and Mike Sneeringer is something I’m really proud of,” says Knishkowy.

Key Client: Central Cee

Zach Bryan Is Music’s Most Reluctant New Star

The Navy veteran — who blends folk, rock and country — has had a breakthrough year with his major-label debut, “American Heartbreak.” But fame isn’t what he’s after.

zach bryan tour manager

By Jon Caramanica

INDIANAPOLIS — In late May, Zach Bryan released “American Heartbreak,” a bracing and shaggily elegant 34-song country-folk opus that served as his major-label debut. It opened at No. 5 on the Billboard album chart, an astonishing mark for a singer who less than a year before had been in the Navy, putting out music on the side.

A couple of weeks later, he was riding his motorcycle with his girlfriend when he took his eyes off the road for a moment and crashed. The left side of his forehead was badly scraped, his right arm deeply gashed and his skin pockmarked with road rash. (His girlfriend, Deb Peifer, was largely unhurt.)

The two had just spent a quiet afternoon at a nearby creek. The emotional whiplash jolted Bryan, 26, into his new reality.

“The most beautiful moment that I’ve had in the last five years, and the worst moment I’ve had in the last five years, and it all happened in like 24 hours,” he said in July, in the diviest dive bar in Indianapolis, the afternoon after he performed to around 6,000 people at TCU Amphitheater at White River State Park.

“I’m like a Kerouac guy,” he continued. “Like, I think life is reckless and it should be insane. It all ends in agony. It’s all about the outcome, so like, do it, you know? Do whatever it is.”

But the accident — and the new responsibilities it underscored — chastened him. “I rode motorcycles 120 miles an hour, 130 miles an hour in my life. Now I’m on a scooter going 10 miles an hour, like, freaking out, looking back at her like, ‘Are you OK? Are you OK?’”

A handful of days after the crash, he returned to the stage. And not long after that, as Bryan is wont to do, he started writing through the suffering, resulting in an EP, “Summertime Blues.” “Here,” Bryan said, his eyes tightening ever so slightly. “Thanks for the pain.”

BRYAN HAS BEEN making hay from pain for the past few years, first getting attention for the muscularly intense songs he released on Twitter and YouTube while he was still in the Navy, and now as one of this year’s most sudden breakout stars. “American Heartbreak” has hovered in the Top 20 of the Billboard 200 since its release, displaying staying power similar to recent albums from Kendrick Lamar, Future and Post Malone.

It is a refreshingly unpretentious album, with songs that take the shortest path from feeling to words while also deploying some alarmingly lovely turns of phrase. “When you place your head between my collar and jaw/I don’t know much, but there’s no weight at all,” he rasps on “Something in the Orange,” which has become his most recognizable hit since his early songs “God Speed” and “Heading South.” On “Sun to Me,” he vividly captures feeling unworthy of someone’s love:

I don’t recall what you were wearing on the first night we met Besides the subtle cloud around you from my last cigarette And you come from a good place with a happy family The only bad you’ve ever done was to see the good in me

Bryan is midsize, sturdy and preternaturally calm. He generally dresses comfortably — Carhartt T-shirt, a well-loved pair of Birkenstock Bostons. But onstage, singing any of a couple dozen songs about wounds and what it takes to lick them, he clenches tight, as if determined to lift an unusually heavy barbell, and nailing it.

He grew up a Navy brat — his father was a master chief, and the family was stationed in Japan. When Bryan was in the eighth grade, the family moved to Oologah, Okla., an actual one-stoplight town around 30 miles northeast of Tulsa. His parents, Dewayne and Annette, divorced when he was around 12.

Bryan was popular in school, a wrestler who was student council president. He had a rebellious streak, but also a clear idea about the man he intended to become. Graham Bright, a childhood friend who’s now his lead guitar player, recalled a night of drinking when the young men saw police lights nearby. “He goes and hides under a bed and starts crying and he’s just like, ‘I want to join the Navy. That’s all I want to do. And I’m not going to be able to!’”

Bryan enlisted when he was 17; the day he shipped off to boot camp, he hadn’t spoken with his father in weeks. “He called my wife some names and he put me on my butt,” Dewayne recalled, referring to his second wife, Anna, with whom Zach now has a strong relationship. “He’s tougher than nails.”

Even though he lived with his father, who had full custody, Bryan felt close to his mother, who had also served in the Navy: “an Oklahoma sweetheart, homecoming queen cheerleader, like a small-town freaking famous person almost.”

But Annette struggled with alcohol, straining family relationships. She died in 2016, and afterward Bryan’s songwriting deepened. “I think my mom dying really solidified the darkness in life to me,” he said. “It opened that thing in you that’s like, ‘Hey, be a man now.’”

“People say I repress,” he continued. “And I’m like, no, the person that I want to tell all this stuff to is dead. And you don’t deserve me weighing in on my feelings to you.”

Bryan’s years in the Navy left him with an emotional resilience and a sense of equanimity, even under fire. Peifer noted that “Sometimes he’s so levelheaded that I’m like, wait, you should be mad or something. Like, we need to react to this!”

Bryan’s sister, MacKenzie Taylor, said they’d “learned from our mom how to put a mask on,” adding, “And he’s a dude in Oklahoma — he’s not supposed to have emotions.”

In the military, Bryan was an aviation ordnanceman stationed in Washington and Florida, and did tours in Bahrain and Djibouti. He assembled, repaired and loaded weapons, and in his downtime, recorded songs. He was a fan of the Oklahoma country band Turnpike Troubadours — especially the songwriting of its frontman, Evan Felker — as well as Radiohead, Bon Iver, Gregory Alan Isakov and assorted “weird indie music.”

In 2015, he started posting clips of his music online, and by 2019 he was garnering attention from progressive country music websites. In Florida, some Navy buddies helped him record his first album, “DeAnn” — his mother’s middle name — which he self-released in August of that year. A second set, “Elisabeth,” followed in 2020. By 2021, still in the Navy, he made his first appearance at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville.

“I was like, don’t put your guitar down, keep going, something’s going to happen,” he said. “Not because I felt driven. Not because I wanted to be famous. Not because I wanted to be rich. I literally just would sit there and think about my mom and be like, Something is telling me not to stop doing this.”

Bryan was honorably discharged from the Navy in August of last year, and soon after set out on the road, finding a rabid fan base waiting for him.

“He wouldn’t sell meet-and-greet tickets because he is too goddamned principled, I guess,” J.R. Carroll, Bryan’s keyboard player and another Oklahoma friend, said with a light cackle. “So they would just have anybody who wanted to meet him after our show. He would just stand there and talk to these people, and they would tell him the most unbelievably dark and depressing stories for three hours.”

Now that Bryan is operating at a bigger scale, he is beginning to set boundaries for himself. “People don’t understand the pressure exerting emotion on other people exerts back on you,” Bryan said.

‘AMERICAN HEARTBREAK’ HAS 34 songs, an improbable number but not, apparently, an undigestible one. In the four months since its release, Bryan has continued to unleash music at an unconventional clip, more like a rapper than a folk singer.

“The EPs I give the label for free — I can’t stop writing,” he said. “I have this weird fear of like, if I don’t put this music out, someone 20 years from now isn’t going to be able to hear it. If some kid needs this in 40 years and he’s 16, he’s sitting in his room, what if I didn’t put out ‘Quiet, Heavy Dreams’ ? What if that’s his favorite song of all time?”

Considering that Bryan is now routinely selling out shows of several thousand people, he’s maintaining raw skepticism about the ruinous power of money and celebrity. He has a decidedly old-fashioned take on the music business and the ways art should be made, a throwback to the authenticity obsessed 1990s, or even the late ’60s and early ’70s.

“Songwriting is such a massive part of this,” he said. “If you’re missing out on it, what the hell are you doing? You’re just performing. You’re an actor.”

Still, he has embraced the occasional surreal moment — recording “American Heartbreak” at Electric Lady Studios; coincidentally being at the New York restaurant Carbone the night in January that Kanye West went there with Julia Fox; getting the opportunity to work out at the Ohio State football team’s facilities before the Indianapolis concert.

“People feel entitled to be famous and rich,” he said, with genuine amazement, “and I’m like, dude, you could be digging ditches, bro.”

Besides, the music business is fickle. “You don’t know if it’s cringy in the time,” Bryan said of his songs, and their success. “‘Cause what if it’s a trend? What if all this is going to be embarrassing and you’re just trying to be a genius that you’re not?”

In the current slotting of genres, Bryan falls perhaps closest to country, though it doesn’t feel like home to him. “I think people understand that I’m not that,” he said. “I want to be in that Springsteen, Kings of Leon, Ed Sheeran at-the-very-beginning space,” he said.

But some of the more partisan elements of the country audience can surface at his shows. In Indianapolis, before Bryan took the stage, parts of the crowd broke out in a vulgar chant about President Biden.

“I told people if I heard it, I would stop it immediately,” Bryan said. “Don’t come to my shows and start it. But they do it anyway.” (He describes himself as a “total libertarian.”)

Moments like that contribute to the creeping sense that his success has become too big to fully control and supervise. This was made manifest at a performance in Oklahoma in April, when someone threw a beer at Bryan when he was onstage. The audience was filled with people he knew, or somewhat knew, or somewhat knew him.

“You see all these eyes and you’re like, Y’all don’t know me anymore, man. I’ve grown. I’m reborn,” he said last month, taking a cigarette break in a Philadelphia parking lot, not far from the modest home he recently bought. Living in Oklahoma, as much as he loves it, isn’t a viable option right now.

And so he’s already retrenching a bit, aiming to make his suddenly big life just a bit more cloistered. “I’m too writing-driven to be a big star,” he said. “I’m not meant for it.”

Last month, “he had like a week and a half off,” Peifer said. “Got back, recorded some songs, and then took four days to build cabinets. And it was all of the exact same importance.”

And he has been chipping away at the final nine credits he needs to receive his bachelor’s degree, squeezing coursework in between concerts. He’s studying psychology: “I just wanted to figure out why my mom was the way she was, you know? Like the most beautiful lady of all time and also kind of tortured herself.”

On Twitter, he recently said he wouldn’t properly tour again: Next year, he plans to play around 30 shows — less than half of this year’s number — so he can leave time to potentially return to school and pursue a master’s degree, ideally in philosophy, and also to spend time with his loved ones.

“How are you going to write music that’s personal and heartfelt if you never get to see the people you love?” Carroll asked, adding that the band’s goal is simply “Letting it be beautiful.”

That means taking space, and saying no, and knowing when is enough. Bryan underscored the dilemma with what sounds like self-deprecation but is in fact a kind of stoic pragmatism. “Music’s going to die out,” he said, characteristically straight-faced. “You either keep going and you fail, or you stop while you’re ahead.”

Explore the World of Country Music

Zach Bryan’s country-rock-adjacent rumbles have made him one of music’s most popular new stars . On the first night of his arena tour, he showcased his bond with the fans that brought him there.

A fan asked his Oklahoma radio station to play a new Beyoncé song. The request was rejected, reigniting a debate about the exclusion of Black musicians from country music .

Jelly Roll, one of 2023’s surprise success stories in the music industry, has become known as much for emotional openness as for hit songs .

CMAT, whose real name is Ciara Mary-Alice Thompson, combines country music’s enduring themes of heartbreak and self-destruction with camp humor and a distinctly Irish sense of the absurd .

The rising singer Morgan Wade is disciplined about her sobriety, fitness and songwriting. But a bond with the reality-TV star Kyle Richards has thrust her into an uncontrollable world of fame .

Zach Bryan doesn’t need country radio. He just needs your heartstrings.

The singer got famous on youtube. do his songs still travel in a concert arena.

zach bryan tour manager

At a sold-out concert in late March, with a resale ticket of more than $1,000, Zach Bryan sang: “They’ll never understand that boy and his kind. All they comprehend …”

He paused, and the roughly 20,300 fans — drinking $17 hard seltzers and wearing $45 tour T-shirts in D.C.’s Capital One Arena — screamed in unison: “... IS A F---ING DOLLAR SIGN! ”

Bryan originally released this song, “Heading South,” on YouTube in 2019, a few days after his bare-bones debut album “DeAnn,” which was recorded in an Airbnb he converted into a makeshift studio by propping mattresses on the walls. The video is amateurish, lit poorly and shot from below Bryan’s knees at his sweaty face. He has red eye in it. And it has been viewed nearly 28 million times.

At the time, Bryan was in his sixth year as an active-duty member of the Navy, which honorably discharged him in 2021. Now, the 27-year-old is upending the country-music industry by finding his audience on social media, not the radio.

Country is the last genre still largely governed by terrestrial radio, even in the streaming era. What gets played on FM stations is what gets popular, and those airwaves are tightly guarded by station programmers who expect artists to play the game — which often involves kissing the ring on radio tours.

Bryan doesn’t do radio tours. He doesn’t do many interviews. He disparages the country machine.

And so country radio didn’t play his songs — not until he became famous, which is the inverse of how it normally goes.

Historically, artists require heavy airplay on country radio stations before they could sell out stadiums. That maxim was upended last year, according to Johnny Chiang, a SiriusXM vice president of music programming who previously spent 20 years programing terrestrial country radio.

The Style section

In 2023, Bryan became the first country artist to sell out stadiums without the radio push, according to Chiang.

Instead, he reached his fans through Twitter (now X), TikTok, Instagram and YouTube. Bryan is “the genre’s first-ever viral-birthed, social-media country star,” says Kyle “Trigger” Coroneos, who runs the website Saving Country Music. A social media following led to a record deal with a major label, Warner.

Coroneos thinks country radio’s stronghold on the industry is overstated but agrees that Bryan represents a seismic inversion for the industry.

“Radio is no longer the kingmaker,” he says, and Bryan is proof.

Outsiders and interlopers — from Waylon Jennings to Sturgill Simpson — have always challenged the Nashville machine. And what indie rocker doesn’t have a country-tinged record nowadays? ( Please welcome Beyoncé and her cowboy hat to the stage .)

And those are the folks I tend to listen to.

For many music lovers (like me) who loathe the slick pop country that is played endlessly on country stations, Zach Bryan feels different. Something genuine, at least through the bookshelf speakers at my home.

But what about in a giant arena?

I first heard Bryan’s music not while perched on the bed of an F-150, sipping Wild Turkey under the Alabama stars, but through the screen on my Peloton stationary bicycle during a ride sound-tracked by his songs.

I was immediately hooked. Bryan reminded me of traditional country — gently strummed, with catchy-but-crushing songs that storify tough topics such as addiction and dementia. His live, full-band versions of the same songs absolutely rock. He’s Bruce Springsteen via Merle Haggard — or is it the other way around?

Denis Morton, the instructor who taught the Peloton class, told me he chose Bryan because he doesn’t sound like modern country music, which has “become a little bit homogenous,” Morton says. “He’s barely any more country than Tom Petty.”

Bryan’s songs have country-cliché titles — “Oklahoma Smokeshow,” “Quittin’ Time,” “Highway Boys” — but they don’t fall prey to country’s worst instincts (think empty imagery of cold beer on summer nights, and pairs of jeans that fit just right).

His homespun production, his raspy voice, his heartfelt storytelling, his DIY roots: It all feels authentic. Sometimes his guitar is out of tune, even on his albums. His fingers make mistakes. This all somehow adds to his appeal.

“He has a really gritty, authentic, heart-wrenching sound,” Chiang says.

Bryan positions himself as anti-establishment, even though it isn’t 100 percent true.

His live album, recorded at the Red Rocks Amphitheater outside of Denver, is titled “All My Homies Hate Ticketmaster” — but tickets to Monday’s show in D.C. were sold through Ticketmaster. He wore a shirt that read “RIP MAINSTREAM MEDIA” onstage at the Capital One Arena — after his team gave me a ticket to receive coverage.

“They want to control you,” Bryan said on Joe Rogan’s podcast, though he didn’t say who “they” is. “That’s how I feel with everything sometimes. That’s why I get so frustrated with people. Because everything I do, everyone has an opinion.” Welcome to being an artist in the public eye, my dude.

In 2022, Bryan tweeted that he “will never want to be considered at the CMAs” because “establishments will always be weird.” He promised to hold a concert outside the Country Music Awards next year, in the way that Simpson once busked outside the show.

Bryan was nominated for a CMA in 2023 and attended the ceremony. He accepted a Grammy in 2024. He can sing all he wants against the system, but he’s now working inside it.

A t his D.C. show, no one fretted over his authenticity, or wondered whether Bryan is some messiah who will tear down country music’s gatekeepers. Attendees were likely not thinking about country radio. Most of them probably don’t even own a radio. They were just drinking, and screaming, and singing. Yee-haw.

The delicacy of Bryan’s lyrics, and the intimacy of his songs, was stripped away at a live show and replaced by the tumult of communal experience. Rabid fans drowned his phrasings by shouting every lyric and squealing at every chord change. The concert experience was the tonal opposite of the small Southern towns he sings about.

The stage was shaped like a giant cross. It had a microphone set up at the end of each point, so he could address different sections of the crowd, which wrapped around the arena. Between songs, he repeatedly mentioned that he didn’t understand the music business when he was starting out.

The young crowd was outfitted with cowboy hats, denim, SEC school logos, denim, sunglasses dangling on Croakies (despite it being nighttime, and despite us being inside of an arena), sundresses, knee-high boots and denim. More than one fan vomited in the men’s bathroom before Bryan’s set began.

I felt like I was back at LSU, my alma mater.

With a propulsive band behind him and the spotlight on him, Bryan’s songs felt musically fleshier but thematically emptier.

It’s hard to feel like he’s fighting the establishment when his face is projected on a screen that must be 50 feet wide. It’s difficult to consider him an underdog in a room full of fans wearing $80 hoodies bearing his likeness. It’s tricky to sing-scold people who only care about money in an arena sponsored by Capital One.

But when he ended his concert by inviting the crowd to sing along, over and over again — “Baptize me in a bottle of Beam, and put Johnny on the vinyl!” — I couldn’t help myself.

I know it makes no sense to hate pop country and want to sing this at the top of my lungs. I know my culture and nostalgia as a Southerner are being exploited. I know he is wearing a T-shirt decrying my profession.

But for a moment, I didn’t care. Sometimes, the music is enough.

I bowed down, and I let the holy water roll over me.

Zach Bryan's 2024 Quittin' Time Tour: Everything We KNow

The 10-month trek kicks off on March 6.

As Zach Bryan finishes the last few dates of his 2023 Burn, Burn, Burn, Tour, he is sharing big plans for next year. This week, the singer announced a 54-date run called Quittin' Time Tour, which will take the singer across the United States and Canada from March through December of 2024.

The tour kicks off March 6 with back-to-back nights in Chicago, Ill. Many cites feature double headers on the tour, as Bryan winds through almost every corner of the U.S. He will visit Canada for two dates in Toronto in March, as well as two shows in Edmonton and one in Vancouver in November. The tour will end in his home state of Oklahoma with two shows in Tulsa on December 13 and 14. The schedule offers a mix of arenas and stadium dates.

Who Is Opening for Zach Bryan's Quttin' Time Tour?

Bryan won't be setting out on his massive 2024 tour alone. He is bringing along a wide range of opening acts, including label mate Levi Turner, who is set to open for every show on the run. Other openers will rotate from show to show, with Jason Isbell and the 400 unit joining him at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass., Raymond James Stadium in Tampa and AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Additionally, Sheryl Crow will join him at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, and the Turnpike Troubadours will open for his show at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis. The rest of the schedule will be filled out by Turner, the Middle East, Sierra Ferrell and Matt Maeson.

How to get tickets for The Quittin' Time Tour

According to Variety , Bryan is partnering with AEG Presents for the tour, and tickets for a majority of the shows will be sold through Ticketmaster. This is a departure from Bryan's past tours, which found him taking a stand against Ticketmaster's selling practices and finding a way to work around the company. AEG Presents is reportedly handling registration and distribution of codes.

Bruce Springsteen flies nearly 3,000 miles to join Zach Bryan on stage in Brooklyn

Bruce Springsteen is flying high.

The Boss joined country star Zach Bryan, 27, on stage March 27 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Springsteen performed March 25 in San Diego with the E Street Band, and he's scheduled to play Thursday, March 28, at the Chase Center in San Francisco.

Springsteen and Bryan performed “Sandpaper” with Bryan's band, and they were joined by Maggie Rogers for the Bryan hit “Revival.” The Boss took a solo on guitar for the latter.

“Brooklyn let's go!” shouted Bryan during “Revival,” according to social media videos. Bryan, an Oklahoma native and a Navy vet, was wearing a Springsteen tour T-shirt.

Country fans were impressed.

“Zach Bryan onstage with Bruce Springsteen has officially topped any collab anyone could ever do,” commented a fan on X.

Bryan’s The Quittin’ Time Tour was also a hit in New Jersey. Two shows at the Prudential Center in Newark broke that venue's attendance record with 18,641 fans on March 14, and 19,151 fans on March 15.

Springsteen and the E Street Band relaunched their tour March 19 at the Footprint Center in Phoenix after the Boss, 74, postponed shows in September due to a bout with peptic ulcer disease.

Zach Bryan Flips Off Ticketmaster, Aims to Shut Down Scalpers on New Summer Tour

By Jon Freeman

Jon Freeman

As he promised late last year, Zach Bryan will be largely Ticketmaster-free on a sprawling tour of North America this summer. The singer-songwriter just announced dates for his headlining Burn Burn Burn American Tour 2023, which gets underway May 10 in Charlottesville, Virginia.

“I’ve tried my best to make tickets as affordable as possible for the Burn Burn Burn Tour,” Bryan said in a new video making the announcement. The brief clip features comedian Theo Von spelling out the ticket-buying rules in a wack y infomercial straight out of The Office (there’s even a cameo from Kevin!).

“We’re out here fighting the good fight with these human snakes at ticketing companies and dark-art bots on the internet,” Von quips in the announcement video. “Good luck, and here’s to fair pricing for all.”

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Zach Bryan (@zachlanebryan)

Tickets purchased through AXS can’t be sold for profit, but they can be resold for face value to other fans through the Zach Bryan AXS Marketplace. There are also a handful of non-AXS events in London, Ontario; Philadelphia; Nampa, Idaho; and Wichita, Kansas, where no resales at all will be allowed.

Zach Bryan Announces 2023 UK & Europe Tour Dates

By Maxim Mower

After teasing European dates last month, Zach Bryan has confirmed that he'll be heading across The Pond this Spring.

In April, he'll be performing in the UK, Ireland, the Netherlands, Germany and Denmark.

Bryan will kick off his European Burn, Burn, Burn tour on April 18 with an eagerly awaited couple of shows in Dublin, before heading to the UK for performances in Manchester and Glasgow, along with a double-header in London.

Zach Bryan's British fans have been clamouring for the chance to see him perform live for a few years now, and they'll be delighted to finally be able to witness his UK debut in April.

Bryan is yet to confirm whether he'll be playing alongside a full band, or whether it'll be a more intimate acoustic tour.

After performing at the Islington Assembly Hall in London, Zach Bryan will then head to the Netherlands for a set in Utrecht, followed by shows in Hamburg, Germany and Copenhagen, Denmark.

Fans will be keen to see Bryan perform his haunting new single, ‘Dawns’, which he released in January.

Bryan's European dates will help to set the ball rolling for the US leg of his Burn, Burn, Burn tour, which begins on May 10 in Charlottesville, Virginia.

The ‘Something in the Orange’ hitmaker recently announced that Charles Wesley Godwin, Trampled By Turtles, Jonathan Peyton and J.R. Carroll will be supporting him in the US.

UK and European listeners will be hoping that he brings the same roster of opening acts for their April tour, with fans particularly keen to see him linking up once again with Charles Wesley Godwin.

Bryan and Wesley Godwin have joined forces on a number of occasions, such as for the heart-rending 2022 track, ‘Jamie’, as well as for a recent episode of Bryan's Belting Bronco video series .

For his latest EP, Wesley Godwin also recorded a moving rendition of Bryan's classic murder ballad, ‘Crooked Teeth’. Attendees at Bryan's upcoming tour will be excited to see if they take the stage together for a joint performance of the track.

Mets star Pete Alonso sings with Zach Bryan on stage during show at UBS Arena

P ete Alonso smashed his first home run of the season against the Brewers on Saturday, and his beaming energy only continued throughout the day as he was found later in the night signing “Revival” as a guest alongside Zach Bryan at UBS Arena.

Videos from the concert show the Mets slugger dancing around on stage and joining the country artist at the microphone to belt out the lyrics while wearing jeans, a camouflage shirt, hat and sunglasses.

Many fans took out their phones to record the moment, capturing Alonso, 29, having a blast on stage and interacting with the crowd throughout the song.

Alonso was the latest highlight of Bryan’s last local stop of his “Quittin’ Time” tour after Bruce Springsteen appeared on stage earlier this week with the four-time Billboard Music Awards winner in Brooklyn.

The performance alongside Bryan likely helped Alonso get over the Mets’ 7-6 loss to the Brewers earlier in the day.

His solo homer in the ninth inning wasn’t enough to power the Mets to a win, but it had an exit velocity of 113.8 miles per hour and went 406 feet to left-center.

Things got worse for the Mets Sunday morning before the series finale even began as manager Carlos Mendoza and reliever Yohan Ramirez were suspended after Ramirez threw behind Rhys Hoskins on Saturday.

A day earlier, Hoskins got into a tiff with Jeff McNeil over a late slide into second base and he followed up the incident with a stellar day — three hits including a home run and four RBIs — that also included Ramirez’s ejection after the reliever threw behind him in the seventh inning.

Alonso went 2-for-7 over the Mets’ first two games

The Mets are trying to avoid a season-opening sweep on Sunday.
