Early life [ ]

Emirichu was born in New York to parents of South Korean descent. She is a second-generation immigrant; their parents were born in South Korea who moved to the U.S in the 80s. She described her parents as ‘super religious’; her dad is a pastor and the family attended church together. She is the youngest of three siblings; her two older brothers are named John (nicknamed ‘Sim’), who is 11 years her senior and Josh. John later moved to South Korea and is married and has two children. Her parents also later moved back to the country.

The family later moved to California when she was 15 and attended high school there. Throughout her childhood, she struggled with her Korean identity. She developed an interest in anime and drew manga during this time period. This was what inspired her anime-like illustrations.

She later attended college to pursue teaching and worked part-time as a youth development teacher during this time, as well as a camp counselor for summer. Close to her graduation, she realized that her passions did not truly lie in teaching. [1]

Emirichu started her channel in 2011—however, no publicly available videos were uploaded til 2016. Her first publicly available animated video was in 2017.

Since then, her animation videos largely resemble Japanese anime. In contrast to other YouTube storytime animators like Jaiden Animations , her animated videos are largely composed of stills, with little fluid movement. Her cartoon persona wears a black-and-white horizontally striped top with a black skirt, black thigh-high socks and Brown hair.

Emirichu has collaborated with other storytime animators such as TimTom , Wolfychu , Tabbes , ChillyPanda , TheAMaazing , TJ Toons and is good friends with CDawgVA .

A tour with illymation , GingerPale and Life Noggin had been announced but was later cancelled due to COVID-19. She is also an animator and voice actor for MOONSHINE ANIMATIONS . In October 2021, it was announced that she was set to replace Domics in the Scribble Showdown tour.

On February 27, 2022, Emirichu debuted as a Virtual YouTuber, or VTuber, using a model drawn by sasuchi95 and rigged by KiraOmori . In her lore, her VTuber persona is a part-time worker at a strawberry café.

Personal life [ ]

Emirichu is not religious, in contrast to her parents' beliefs. She had conflicts with her personal beliefs and those of Christianity; for example, she was appalled that a leader at a seminar retreat believed that gay people can only go to heaven if 'they didn't act on their sinful desires'. [2] [3]

On October 10th, 2019, Emily began dating Daidus , a fellow animation YouTuber. [4] Although, the two did not immediately reveal it to the public. On April 1st, 2020, Emily posted ship art of her and Daidus's personas, confusing many fans. [5] She later confirmed that they were dating when she was interviewed on stream by Shystarfall . [6]

Emily formerly lived in San Diego, California. In March 2022, Emily and Daidus moved to Tokyo, Japan and have lived together since then. [7] [8] She has conversational knowledge in Korean. She is 5'6" (168 centimeters) tall. [9]

  • Emirichu is a fan of Ollie Kureiji of Hololive Indonesia , [10] as well as Ironmouse from VShojo and Gawr Gura of Hololive English.
  • She is lactose intolerant. [11]

Artist and Youtuber Emily Sim (Emirichu) Paints Her Life in Japan

A modern-day online storyteller.

Emily Bushman

Storyteller and online content creator Emily Sim shares the details behind her move to Japan, and the impact living here has had on her creative journey.

Inspired by manga and anime, Emily Sim of the Emirichu YouTube channel , started drawing as soon as she could hold a pencil. She is a native New Yorker but moved to California when she was 15, around the same time she started taking drawing more seriously.

In 2017, while trying to figure out her career path, she started uploading videos to her YouTube channel sharing stories of her life accompanied by hand-drawn renderings of her friends and adventures. These story-time videos are what endeared her viewers to her channel. As her audience grew, she started taking on sponsorships and soon realized she could focus her career on YouTube. Her earnest and heartfelt storytime videos have since earned her more than three million YouTube subscribers.

In the search for some new, interesting stories to tell, she moved to Japan in 2022 to work with GeeXPlus, a company known for talent management and media. Since then, she’s added a variety of Japan-inspired content to her channel. We sat down together in a My Dress-Up Darling collaboration cafe to talk about her time in Japan.

What brought you over to Japan?

GeeXPlus was looking for creators who could make content in Japan to connect with an international audience, so they reached out to me. Since a lot of my art is influenced by anime, it seemed like the perfect place for me to create more content. Although I was initially unsure about packing my life up and moving to Japan, I realized moving here was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Plus, after all the lockdowns during the recent pandemic, I was really craving a new work environment.

How has living in Japan impacted your creative journey?

Getting to experience another culture and try new things has been so fulfilling. In a way, it’s given me too many ideas to keep up with! Since story-time content mostly revolves around talking about life experiences, I felt it was only natural to share the new experiences and memories I’ve been making here in Japan.

There are many videos on my channel now that wouldn’t exist if I weren’t living in Japan—like my collaboration cafe series or visiting Awaji Island.

Japan is a country that is so rich, and for many people, it’s a place they want to see and experience at some point in their lives. So living here has made me think more about my audience and what they want to experience. When I go out, I now vlog what I do because people want to see what life in Japan is like. I love combining vlog footage with my drawings. There are many videos on my channel now that wouldn’t exist if I weren’t living in Japan—like my collaboration cafe series or visiting Awaji Island.

What is a collaboration cafe? And how did your series on them start?

Collaboration cafes are designed for fans who want to support a famous artist or their works. Basically, cafes collaborate with popular artists and sell merchandise and food that’s themed around their work—like anime or manga for example.

Artist and Youtuber Emily Sim (Emirichu) Paints Her Life in Japan

When I first moved to Japan, a viewer tagged me in a social media post about an Arina Tanemura collab cafe and asked if I could please go to review it. I’ve been to over 40 of them since! They’re really popular here, but unfortunately, many of the cafes are only open temporarily and usually end by the time my international viewers have the chance to visit them.

Is that what inspired you to keep visiting the cafes?

The limited-time exclusivity definitely gives my viewers a reason to watch. The cafes also provide great storytime content for videos that I can’t really get anywhere but Japan. My audience has been liking the Japan-focused vlog content, so making videos about collab cafes is a great way to show my audience a fun part of Japan many people don’t get the opportunity to see.

How has Japan influenced your art style? Has living here changed anything?

My art has always had a very anime-esque style. It’s very heavily influenced by anime and manga–especially shojo manga. Being surrounded by the same art styles that inspired me as a child has been surreal, and living here has given me an opportunity to examine art in a new light. I’ve recently been really into manga exhibits, which is where they display a manga artist’s original manga pages, and being able to look at the very same pages that I read in my formative years (like Yotsuba&! and Death Note ) has been so inspiring. You can see details that don’t show up in the final versions, like the brush strokes, the white-out marks, the sketches they do underneath the line art. Getting to see the artistic process of actual legends is really informative. Living here hasn’t exactly changed my style, but it has given me a new appreciation for the pioneers of the anime and manga art style, and the work that goes into getting it to look right. I’m constantly surrounded by artistic inspiration, which I think is something I was running low on during lockdown.

Has your growing popularity impacted your personal life at all?

Artist and Youtuber Emily Sim (Emirichu) Paints Her Life in Japan

My life has definitely changed in ways I didn’t ever think it would. Things like working in Japan, guesting at international conventions or just being able to draw for a living would never have been possible if I hadn’t decided to upload a video on YouTube one day out of boredom for people to see. I’m extremely grateful to everyone who helped me get to where I am today.

Your story-time art sequences sometimes touch on deeper emotions and personal experiences. How do you balance sharing these moments with your audience while maintaining your privacy and well-being?

I share only what I’m comfortable with, which is honestly mostly everything, but there are a few things I’ll keep to myself. Back when I was scripting my video about my Asian-American identity crisis , I’d been sitting on that script for well over a year and I knew I wasn’t ready to share or draw it yet because I couldn’t get through it without crying. I was worried about how it’d be received. Once I did eventually make and upload it, it made me really happy to see that it resonated with so many people and it’s now one of my favorite videos. If I don’t feel ready to see hate comments on a certain topic, it simply stays in the drafts until I am—that’s my rule of thumb.

Do you have any other creative projects or aspirations you’d like to pursue in the future?

Artist and Youtuber Emily Sim (Emirichu) Paints Her Life in Japan

I’d love to publish my own story one day, maybe in manga or comic form! It seems like a lot of work but it’s been a dream of mine since I was a kid.

What are your long-term goals for your channel and your career as an animator in Japan?

I’ve already gotten so much farther than I ever thought I would. I guess my long-term goal is to continue improving my creative skills so I can do what I love even if I transition away from YouTube one day. I really love living in Japan and think I’ll be here for as long as I can, or until my partner or I really want to settle elsewhere.

What advice would you give to aspiring artists or those who want to work in a similar field to you?

Make sure you enjoy what you do. I’ve seen many of my peers burn out from either no longer having fun creating or feeling the stress and pressure from prioritizing the numbers from analytics. A personal rule I keep is—even if nobody asks for it, if it fulfills me creatively, then the time spent is worth it. And if you need to take breaks to maintain that passion and joy for creating, then take those breaks.

Emirichu on Growing Her Channel, Shoujou Manga and Moving to Japan

The Storytime YouTuber tells us about the positive impact that moving here has had on her life and career

It’s been over a year since Storytime YouTuber Emily Sim, known as Emirichu online, uprooted herself from her home in California and relocated to Tokyo. With over 3 million subscribers on the platform, where she shares illustrated videos about her life, it’s clear that moving to this part of the world was not just a personal decision but a professional one. We recently sat down with Sim to better understand the Storytime genre, how she has grown as an artist and how moving to Japan has changed the direction of her content.

The Story Behind Storytime

“To me, a Storytime YouTuber is someone who narrates life stories in their videos,” explains Sim. “This is often told through animation or illustrations and the story can be about anything. It could be stories from school or a funny moment in life.”

Sim’s first iteration of Storytime wasn’t actually for YouTube, it was during a study abroad program in Guatemala. Rather than taking photographs, she decided to draw out her experience as part of a project presentation. This experience sparked an idea in her to use art to convey stories.

Though Sim didn’t take the conventional route to study or train, drawing has been a part of her life for as long as she could hold a pencil. Upon graduating from college, she started, in her words, “messing around with a tablet” and uploading videos to YouTube. Her first video to blow up on the platform was an animatic music video for the song “It’s Not Like I Like You!!” by Static-P , which was released in May 2017. Sim ended up spending her entire summer vacation that year in Korea drawing and by the time she returned to the U.S., had amassed 10,000 subscribers, marking her first milestone.

What Inspires Emirichu?

It’s been six years since her big break. The Emirichu channel has subsequently gone from strength to strength as Sim continues to refine her craft. When asked to describe her style, she calls it “very girly anime,” as it’s clear that shoujo manga was the main inspiration.

“Something about the art in shoujo manga just really tickled my brain as a little girl. I was always into romance, but it was the art and the expressiveness of the eyes that blew me away,” says Sim. “I used to pour over Shojo Beat magazines that were available at my school library, and I was constantly blown away by all of the different art styles. My school also had Shonen Jump magazine, but it just didn’t hit me the same way.”

Sim cites Tokyo Mew Mew , written by Reiko Yoshida and illustrated by Mia Ikumi, as one of her biggest influences. She also really likes Fruits Basket by Natsuki Takaya, Gentlemen’s Alliance by Arina Tanemura and Kitchen Princess by Miyuki Kobayashi.

How To Make A Story Time YouTube Video

Emirichu videos are warm, funny and relatable. The end result might seem deceptively simple, yet the process is anything but. It usually begins with Sim crafting the script and recording the audio for an idea she has come up with. She then uses thumbnails for the video concepts while planning the number of drawings needed for the animatic. After that, sketches are drawn out on her drawing platform and edited into video form to see if the visuals and the audio line up with her vision. Lastly, she does the line art and colors for the final illustrations, before finishing up the editing of the overall video. A typical video can take anywhere from two weeks to a month to complete from start to finish, depending on how much time Sim can dedicate to working on it.

“Because of the nature of my content and the time needed to illustrate it all, it can be frustrating that producing a video takes this long. But I like to have full control over my content and to be able to say that everything was done 100% by me,” says Sim. “This is why I’ve been resistant about hiring a team to help me. It would probably make more business sense if I did and stopped being so stubborn. There have been some occasions where I’ve commissioned another artist to help, especially with background art. Still, what’s important to me is being able to look back at my channel and see my own personal art growth over the years. This is why I continue to work solo.”

Personal Experiences in Japan

Since moving to Japan with talent agency GeeXPlus, the Emirichu YouTube channel has diversified and now includes a varied mix of her illustrations, combined with vlog-style footage of her experiences. To date, some of her most popular videos are her anime café series, where she visits an array of collaboration cafés that are available in Japan to document their food and drinks as well as her thoughts on how they taste. Another video that recently hit over 1 million views was “I Tried Being A Maid for a Day,” where she spent a day working as a maid at a place called At-home Café .

“When I’m making Storytime content, it’s inevitable that my work will be centered around my personal experiences. Moving to Japan has definitely impacted me in a good way. I’ve been given so many opportunities and it’s inspired me to think of new ideas for my channel,” says Sim.

While many viewers may have come to her channel for her cute art, even more have stayed because of Sim’s personality and her approach to storytelling. “Having fun with whatever content you decide to make is the most important thing,” she says. “I’ve found that even if something might not perform well on social media, if it fulfills you creatively, then it’s worth having been made.”

Keep up with Emirichu on YouTube .

She provides the voices for various characters from Moonshine Animations ' Shrapnel series.

Emirichu provides examples of:

  • Asian Airhead : Self-admitted, and often teased for being a "ditzy anime girl".
  • Bald Head of Toughness : One of her older brothers is a strong, intimidating man with a shaved head.
  • Banana Peel : In "Clumsy", as she is initially describing how clumsy she is, among other things, she shows a drawing of herself slipping on a banana peel.
  • Banister Slide : One attempt at such in sixth grade left her with a sprained ankle and walking around with a cast for two weeks, as mentioned in her episode about her being a klutz.
  • Beautiful Tears : Discussed and also defied in "Crying". Emily says she envies those who manage to look pretty when they cry because she's an ugly-crier. She talks about how the typical "pretty crier" looks; they have a slightly-red nose, sparkly eyes, and upturned eyebrows.
  • Beauty, Brains, and Brawn : According to her, she forms this dynamic with her two brothers; John being the athletic one, Josh the smart one and Emily the artistic one.
  • Big Brother Mentor : She concludes her video about her oldest brother Sim by showing many things he taught her while growing up.
  • Cheery Pink : She's a very optimistic lady and is heavily associated with the color pink, as it's her favorite color.
  • Childhood Brain Damage : When talking about her klutziness, she jokes that her airhead tendencies are the result of the many times she's fallen and hit her head as a baby.
  • Cloudcuckoolander : Due to her quirky and eccentric personality traits, combined with her cheerful demeanor, she may exhibit peculiar or unconventional behavior that adds to her overall charm.
  • Comedic Underwear Exposure : In "The worst thing that happened on tour", Emi forgot to wear shorts, leaving only her black leggings and underwear on her lower half while she traveled to the Scribble Showdown venue with JaidenAnimations and Rubber Ross. Thankfully, she managed to bring her luggage with her along with her shorts, but it's enough to embarrass her for a while.
  • The Comically Serious : She often juxtaposes her cheerful personality with dry or serious humor, creating comedic contrast.
  • Cute Clumsy Girl : She admits to being one, and claims it isn't actually that cute because she ends up with a lot of strange bruises and embarrasses herself a lot.
  • Do Not Call Me "Paul" : According to her, her brother John prefers to go by Sim because he thought the name John was too bland and didn't suit him.
  • Face of a Thug : "My Scary Older Brother" has her claim that her big brother John aka "Sim" falls into this, thanks to his leather jacket and shaved head making him look like a violent criminal. This, combined with his difficulties speaking Korean, once made it seem like he was willing to whack a troublesome customer when he was at a coffee shop in South Korea.
  • Failed Attempt at Drama : One happened to her brother Sim in "My Scary Older Brother". When a belligerent drunk walked into a cafe, started smoking a cigarette and refused to put it out after an employee asked him to, his response was to rip the cigarette out of the drunk's mouth. Except he somehow broke the cigarette in two, so he had to walk to the door, throw it outside, go back to the drunk, take the other half of the cigarette away from him and throw that out. Needless to say, this didn't have quite the impact he was hoping for, although he did get his feelings across.
  • In "Childhood Crushes 2" (with Daidus and Erold), after already admitting to not watching a lot of anime that was brought up, she admits she had not watched Avatar: The Last Airbender . Daidus, Erold, and the comment section all considered this to be an unforgivable thing for her to have not watched. note  She did eventually watch the show, and stated that she enjoyed it, even as far as to make a couple animatics of it.
  • In "Unforgivable Food Opinions" (with Daidus, Gigguk, The Anime Man, and CDawgVA ) everyone involved gets an opportunity to act this way in response to someone else's bad food take. But when Emily says "I'd rather have instant ramen than authentic ramen", everyone else acts offended.
  • As Emily narrates her thought process for that morning, she lists off what she was going to wear that day, a December in Chicago with the temperature around freezing. She then goes through her morning routine, including what she put on — listening closely to the list of articles she said she put on will reveal "shorts" to be the only thing missing from the initial list.
  • A five-second version has a brief shot of Jaiden looking up at Emily with a quizzical expression as they were climbing stairs, with camera angles looking down at them. Not long afterwards, it's revealed that Emily's got her panties exposed.
  • Friend to All Children : She's very good with kids, and even seriously considered a teaching career.
  • Gender Flip : Her high school's production of Absence of a Cello didn't have enough boys audition to fill all the male parts, so the character of Perry ended up being turned into a woman named Paris.
  • Genki Girl : She brings a vibrant and lively energy to her videos and interactions, often exuding enthusiasm and excitement.
  • Girly Girl : There is no doubt about it. Emily is a bubbly, sweet girl who likes girly things like fashion, cats, cute cartoon characters, and even the color pink .
  • Has a Type : By her own admission, she has a major thing for pretty boys , especially ones that are goofy and have dark bangs. This likely explains why she is dating Daidus .
  • Heartbeat Soundtrack : Multiple heartbeats can be heard in "The worst thing that happened on tour" after Emi realizes she forgot to put on her shorts.
  • Heritage Disconnect : Due to a fear of appearing different from the rest of her school, she refused to learn Korean, something she regrets now.
  • Hypocritical Humor : In "Childhood Crushes 3", Emily jokes that Sultan likes smart girls because they balance him out. He immediately retorts by pointing out that Emily is an Asian Airhead .
  • Hypocrite : One of her classmates in high school was a girl named Bethany. She would give unsolicited criticism of other peoples' art, but was quick to get defensive whenever somebody did the same with her art.
  • It's Okay to Cry : This trope is discussed in "Crying" when Emily says that she thinks crying is a healthy way of releasing stress and, if anything, crying when she feels the urge to do so has made her well-adjusted and happy with herself the way she is.
  • Kindhearted Cat Lover : She loves cats and dotes on her roommate Soléy's cat Prince.
  • Little Big Brother : "My Scary Older Brother" video depicts her second brother Josh as taller than their older brother Sim.
  • Making Use of the Twin : invoked When she was in high school, a production of The Comedy of Errors was put on because there were two sets of identical twins in theater.
  • Mean Character, Nice Actor : Emily is an incredibly sweet, kind, friendly, and bubbly Nice Girl . In her high school production of The Comedy of Errors , she was cast as the nagging Adriana.
  • Nice Character, Mean Actor : When she was in high school, she appeared in a production of The Comedy of Errors . Bethany, a mean girl, was cast as the sweet Luciana. While this was because their drama teacher mixed up the characters' names, Bethany still ended up doing a good job.
  • Normal Fish in a Tiny Pond : An almost literal example. Emily is 5'6", the upper end of average height for an American woman. However, after moving to Japan (a country with a short national average height), she found that she looked like an "absolute unit" next to the typical Japanese woman.
  • No Sense of Direction : In a stream, she admits to having a weak sense of direction.
  • Pink Girl, Blue Boy : Emily is the Pink Girl to Daidus' Blue Boy .
  • The Power of Friendship : Discussed in "6 MORE Annoying Anime Tropes", where she mentions not liking the power of friendship. As her animatic demonstrates, she thinks it often destroys any meaning the fight has since they could have just gotten their friends' help the entire time.
  • Prone to Tears : Despite her cheerful and optimistic personality, she has a habit of crying whenever she feels a particularly strong emotion; not just sadness, but happiness and anger too.
  • Rewatch Bonus : After learning the twist in "The worst thing that happened on tour", one could look back and see that there's no good look at Emily's hips for quite a while.
  • Savvy Guy, Energetic Girl : With Daidus, as the two are dating.
  • Self-Deprecation : One of the most frequently recurring elements in her videos is her mocking herself as ditzy and klutzy .
  • Shout-Out : The way she draws her brother Sim makes him look a lot like Saitama in a leather jacket.
  • Squee : When she's especially excited, she'll let out noises like these.
  • Stereotype Flip : She's an artsy Asian girl who spends a lot of time on the Internet, but rather than being a quiet introvert, she's exuberant and loves being around other people. However, she does admit to falling into the Asian Airhead stereotype.
  • In "Crying", she clarifies that she's not the kind of crybaby who gets offended over minor things while showing a certain picture of Tracer in the background. This is a reference to a minor controversy where some people got worked up about Tracer making a pose that emphasized her rear end and found themselves the butt of countless jokes.
  • "The K-Pop Hole" has her discuss how a fandom can be made to look like garbage by a few bad apples, or in some cases, "bad pickles". In saying this, she referenced how certain segments of the Rick and Morty fandom gave the fanbase a reputation for extreme pretentiousness and toxicity.
  • Tears of Joy : Being a self-described crybaby who will let loose with the waterworks whenever she feels a particularly strong emotion, it's not surprising that she'll cry these when she's happy enough.
  • Translation Convention : In "My Scary Older Brother", she recounts a story about Sim in a South Korean cafe, and briefly notes that while her adaptation of what happened has everyone speaking English, in reality everyone was speaking Korean.
  • Unusually Uninteresting Sight : Neither Jaiden nor Ross comment on Emily going without shorts in "The worst thing that happened on tour". Jaiden later commented that she thought something was off about Emily but couldn't quite put her finger on it, while Ross didn't notice anything amiss at all. Their tour manager, a guy named Matt, didn't notice anything either.
  • Vocal Dissonance : CDawgVa once provided a voice for a hypothetical "magical girl mascot" version of her roommate's cat Prince. His deep voice provided a comedic contrast with the cat's cutesy appearance, especially when Prince started engaging in typical cat-like antics.
  • Wham Line : "The Worst Thing that Happened on Tour" has its reveal when she finally looks down at what she's wearing below the waist: And I look down and my shorts are not there .

5 Sketchbook Tours: Drawing Inspiration From Other Artists

emirichu sketchbook tour

Photo caption: Sketchbook tours allow artists to peek into the minds of their favorite artists and draw inspiration from them. Image by WP Chun from Pixabay.

As an art school, we’re big proponents of sketchbooks. We encourage our students to keep sketchbooks. Doing so allows them to develop important skills, hone their ideas for painting and to keep a visual journal of their experiences.

Students have a lot of freedom when it comes to drawing in their sketchbooks, which can be both liberating and intimidating. That’s why we regularly include articles on our blog to help them find some artistic inspiration for their student sketchbooks, like this post  and this one .

Now, we’d like to introduce one more idea to our students: the sketchbook tour. Such a visual excursion allows student artists to see how some of their favorite artists hone their own skills and develop their ideas for projects. The following five sketchbook tours represent some of our favorites, (though this list certainly isn’t exhaustive).

1. Jeff Watts

One of the reasons we really love Jeff Watts’s style is because he embraces the loose, expressive style that we often talk about in the Mastery Program .

In his sketchbook tour, he goes over what sketchbooking means to him and the role it plays in the development of his skills. What we’re especially excited about are the moments where he talks about developing the skills to draw the human figure.

2. Kasey Golden

Anyone who has done our 100 paintings in three days challenge will appreciate this sketchbook challenge. Artist Kasey Golden undertook the Sketchbook Slam Challenge, a drawing and sketchbook challenge created by Holly Brown.

The challenge asks artists to fill a 600-page sketchbook in 30 days. Talk about cranking it up a notch! The reason why we love this sketchbook tour is that it embraces a fundamental concept that we cover a lot in the Mastery Program. That is if you want to gain excellence, you should draw and paint A LOT.

3. Alex Ross

Okay. We admit it. This entry is a bit of a cheat, but only a small one.

But first things first… Alex Ross is one of the most famous comic artists of all time. What sets him apart is his classical approach to drawing and painting comics. He is responsible for creating some of the most iconic images of characters, like Wonder Woman and Superman. Most people recognize his style instantly, even if they don’t know his name.

What makes this entry a cheat is that while it does cover Ross’s sketches, it does so by highlighting his book Rough Justice , which shows many of his comic pages in the rough sketch form, before he paints them. We included it in this list, because it’s tempting for new artists to believe that the finished product is all there is. By seeing Ross’s uncolored pages, you’ll get a real sense of the process he goes through to create his comics.

4. 100+ Year-Old Sketchbook

Before there was photography, there was drawing and painting, and some of the best information we have about what life was like “way back when” is in art. Artists from the past and the sketchbooks they kept give us an idea of what life was like before photography took over. The sketchbook featured in this tour is over a hundred years old and offers a glimpse of one man’s life back then.

5. Lena Danya

Lena Danya is a well-known artist on YouTube, so well-known, in fact, HBO asked her to create a special piece for the final seasons of Game of Thrones . That definitely gives her the cool factor!

Aside from that, she paints beautifully, AND she is a good example of someone who is taking her art career into her own hands. She has a thriving YouTube channel, where she shares some of her art techniques with her fans. Her sketchbook tour allows her to engage with fans and to create content for her social media channel at the same time.

Emirichu (born 27 August 1995) [1] is a South Korean American [2] YouTuber and animator .

Emirichu mainly posts story-time animation videos to her YouTube channel. Most of her videos consist of her telling a story of something that happened in her life while she animates over her voice. Her art is characterized by her anime-style, and is a more simple, cartoonish way of drawing. She sometimes posts collaborative videos where she talks to her guests about certain topics or plays games with her guests. [3] [4] Her most frequent guests are CDawgVA and her current boyfriend, Daidus. [4] [5] She started her YouTube channel with Anamtics, [6] [7] [8] [9] [10] [11] and then made her first story-time animation and uploaded it to her channel in September 2017 titled, "When I Tried to Fight my Middle School Bullies Over a Sketchbook". [12] This was one of her first viral videos and would kick off her YouTube popularity.

Family and Early Life [ edit ]

Emirichu was born in New York [13] to parents of South Korean descent. [14] She is a second-generation immigrant; her parents were born in South Korea. [15] [14] She described her parents as ‘super religious’; [16] her dad is a pastor , [17] and the family attended church together. [17] She is the youngest of three siblings; her two older brothers are named John (nicknamed ‘Sim’) [18] , and Josh [18] . John later moved to South Korea and is married, and has two children. In March of 2020 Josh moved back to the United States with his wife and two children. [19] Her parents also moved back to South Korea and are currently living there. [20]

The family later moved to California when she was 15 [13] and attended high school there. Throughout her childhood, she struggled with her Korean identity. [14] She developed an interest in anime and drew manga during this time period. [21] This was what inspired her anime-like illustrations.

She later attended college to pursue teaching and worked part-time as a youth development teacher. [22] Close to her graduation, she realized that she her passions did not truly lie in teaching. [23]

Career [ edit ]

Emirichu started her channel in 2011 [24] —however, her first publicly available animated video was in 2017. [6] Since then, her animation videos largely resemble Japanese anime . In contrast to other YouTube storytime animators like Jaiden Animations , her animated videos are largely composed of stills, with little fluid movement. Her cartoon persona wears a black-and-white horizontally striped top with a black skirt, black thigh-high socks and Brown hair.

Emirichu has collaborated with other storytime animators such as TimTom, [25] Wolfychu, [26] ChillyPanda, [27] TheAMaazing, [28] Daidus and CDawgVA . [4] A tour with illymation, GingerPale and Life Noggin had been announced but was later cancelled due to COVID-19 . [29]

Personal Life [ edit ]

Emirichu is not religious, in contrast to her parents' beliefs. She had conflicts with her personal beliefs and those of Christianity; for example, she was appalled that a leader at a seminar retreat believed that gay people can only go to heaven if 'they didn't act on their sinful desires' [30] [31]

Emirichu currently resides in California. [32] She has conversational knowledge in Korean. [18] She is currently in a relationship with fellow story-time animation YouTuber Daidus. [33] She is 5'6" (168 centimeters) tall. [34]

Moscow metro tour: architectural styles of the subway.

emirichu sketchbook tour

Duration: 2 hours

Categories: Culture & History, Sightseeing

This metro tour of Russia’s capital and most populous city, Moscow, is your chance to get a unique insight into the beautiful and impressive architecture of the city's underground stations. Admire their marble walls and high ceilings representing Stalin's desire for glory after World War 2, and see first-hand how the interiors change with the rise of new political eras. Your guide will lead you through the complex network, which is one of the most heavily used rapid transit systems worldwide, with over two billion travelers in 2011.

Opened in 1935, Moscow’s underground system, now 190 miles (305 km) long with 185 stations, is today one the largest and most heavily used rapid transit systems in the world. On this Moscow metro tour, discover the impressive architecture of Moscow’s underground stations and learn how they reflect the Soviet era.

Getting around by metro, your local guide will take you through parts of Moscow’s infamous history. Stop at stations built during the time of the USSR (Soviet Union) that are praised as one of the most extravagant architectural projects from Stalin’s time. After World War 2, he was keen on establishing Stalinist architecture to represent his rising regime and a recognized empire. Learn how when his successor started the de-Stalinization of the former Soviet Union in 1953, the extravagancy of the architecture was toned down.

Discover how the unique character of each station reflected several different eras. While stations like Kievskaya and Slavyansky Bulvar have pompous halls and high stucco ceilings brimming with extravagant decorations, those built later, like Volzhskaya, are lightly adorned with sparse furnishings. Architect Alexey Dushkin and painter Alexander Deyneka were just two of the many artists who made these magnificent landmarks possible.

Revel in Moscow's glory days, as well as the years of scarcity, on this fascinating Moscow metro experience. Conclude your tour at one of the central stations in Moscow. If you're lucky, you may even find the secret entrance to the unconfirmed Metro-2, a parallel underground system used by the government -- a mystery which has neither been denied nor confirmed today.

Culture Shock Rating

We have a wide range of tours designed to give you an insight into the destination you're travelling in and there is something for everybody. The culture shock ratings considers the destination visited, transport used, activities undertaken and that "Wow, I'm really not at home now!" factor. While generalisations are always tricky, a summary of our gradings is as follows…

This is the least confronting of our tour range. Transport used on the trip is either private or a very comfortable public option, the activities included are usually iconic sites and locations that are not all too confronting.

The tour can include a mix of private and public transport providing a level of comfort that is slightly below what you would experience at home. Sites visited are usually iconic sites, tours can also include market visits, visits to communities etc that provide the traveller with a fantastic insight into destination.

Expect to rough it for parts of this tour, whether it's a packed public bus where you are forced to stand, a visit to a local market, a local community, you are sure to have an experience that is very different from what you're used to at home.

The comforts of your home town and the environment you are used to are more of a rarity. Expect some challenging transport options, visits to local sites and areas that don't resemble anything at home.

You're out there in the global community! You are likely to be exposed to the elements, travel in whatever means of transport is available and basically take it as it comes, whatever comes! It can be tough.

Physical Rating

Our physical rating gives you an idea of how much huffing and puffing you can expect on the tour. While generalisations are always tricky, a summary of our gradings is as follows…

These tours have very limited physical activity. Usually climbing in and out of the transport provided, walking through sites, markets etc included in the itinerary.

These tours have a bit of physical activity but nothing that should challenge you too much. This could be climbing on and off public transport through to a walk through the destination you're travelling in, they can include walking only tours or a combination of walking and transport.

These tours involve a bit of physical activity from walking up and down hills in the destination you're travelling in or the surrounding areas. Climbing on and off local transport or riding a bike up to 30 kms along predominantly flat terrain or jumping in a kayak for a gentle paddle on flat water.

These Tours will provide you with some solid physical activity. Whether its bike riding, walking, trekking, kayaking or riding on public transport you will need to have a good level of fitness to enjoy this tour.

Be prepared for some serious physical activity. These tours are our most challenging and involve some serious walking, hiking or bike riding. Can involve step climbs by foot or pedal and some challenging public transport options in the destination you are travelling.

Luxury Rating

Some trips are like a stroll on the beach, while others have you trekking alpine passes. Some of you thrive on camping out on the savannah, while others may prefer a hot shower and a comfortable bed in a lodge. Follow the grading systems below to find the right trip for you.

To help you choose the trip that's right for you, we've broken all of our trips down into four service levels. Measuring the comfort level of the accommodation and transport. So whether you're travelling on a budget and want to save money by using public transport, or prefer upgraded accommodation and are happy to pay a little more, then we have a level for you.

This is grassroots travel at its most interesting

Fun facts from our Moscow Metro Tours:

From the very first days of its existence, the Moscow Metro was the object of civil defense, used as a bomb shelter, and designed as a defense for a possible attack on the Soviet Union.

At a depth of 50 to 120 meters lies the second, the coded system of Metro-2 of Moscow subway, which is equipped with everything you need, from food storage to the nuclear button.

According to some sources, the total length of Metro-2 reaches over 150 kilometers.

The Museum was opened on Sportivnaya metro station on November 6, 1967. It features the most interesting models of trains and stations.

Coffee Ring

The first scheme of Moscow Metro looked like a bunch of separate lines. Listen to a myth about Joseph Stalin and the main brown line of Moscow Metro.

Zodiac Metro

According to some astrologers, each of the 12 stops of the Moscow Ring Line corresponds to a particular sign of the zodiac and divides the city into astrological sector.

Astrologers believe that being in a particular zadiac sector of Moscow for a long time, you attract certain energy and events into your life.

Paleontological finds

Red marble walls of some of the Metro stations hide in themselves petrified inhabitants of ancient seas. Try and find some!

  • Every day each car in  Moscow metro passes  more than 600 km, which is the distance from Moscow to St. Petersburg.
  • Moscow subway system is the  5th in the intensity  of use (after the subways of Beijing, Tokyo, Seoul and Shanghai).
  • The interval in the movement of trains in rush hour is  90 seconds .

In front of spectacular towers of St. Basil’s

My Dear clients from Ireland, Hiro Yoshida & Sean Gillis, in front of beautiful towers of St. Basil’s cathedral on Red Square. The world famous church was built in Moscow in 1555-1561 by order of Russian Tsar Ivan IV (The Terrible) to mark the 1552 capture of Kazan from Mongol forces.
