ABOUT BLACKPINK

One of the most massively successful K-pop groups in music history, BLACKPINK have redefined the global pop landscape since first bursting onto the scene in 2016. Along with boasting the #1 most-subscribed artist channel on YouTube, the South Korean quartet has achieved such boundary-defying milestones as scoring the highest-charting album by a female group in over a decade and becoming the first K-pop girl group ever to perform at Coachella (the largest music festival in the U.S.). Comprised of JISOO, JENNIE, ROSÉ and LISA—all immensely charismatic vocalists, dancers, and fast-rising fashion icons—BLACKPINK began their meteoric rise with their 2016 debut SQUARE ONE and further proved their crossover power with SQUARE UP (a 2018 release that quickly cracked the Billboard 200). Soon after signing with Interscope Records through a global partnership with YG Entertainment, the group made their full-length debut with 2020’s immediately iconic THE ALBUM . THE ALBUM shot to #2 on the Billboard 200 and landed three singles on the Billboard Hot 100: “How You Like That” (the iconic single that shattered several YouTube records, including fastest video to cross 150 million views), “Ice Cream” (a collaboration with Selena Gomez that broke the record for highest-charting female K-pop group on the Hot 100), and “Lovesick Girls” (a track that’s sold over 1.4 million copies worldwide, making BLACKPINK the first K-pop girl group to sell over a million units). Through the years, BLACKPINK have also garnered a number of major awards (including three E! People’s Choice Awards and most recently awarded Best Metaverse Performance at the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards where Lisa also made history as first K-pop soloist to win Best K-pop Act), collaborated with superstars like Dua Lipa and Lady Gaga, performed on “The Tonight Show,” and starred in < BLACKPINK: Light Up the Sky> (a 2020 film hailed by the New York Times as an “endearing documentary that emphasizes each member’s individuality”). With over 9 billion career Spotify streams to date, BLACKPINK are now conquering the world with their recent album BORN PINK . The group is now touring the entire planet with their second studio album, already made the United States and Europe, while in 2023 the group will hit the road in Asia and Mexico.

BTS and BLACKPINK on DDU-DU DDU-DU

BTS and BLACKPINK get along well together and appreciate one another, based on their interactions.

BTS has expressed respect for BLACKPINK dedication to work ethic and achievements in the music business.

They even worked together on the song "DDU-DU DDU-DU," which topped the charts in several different countries and received multiple honors.

BTS has also commended BLACKPINK for their distinctive looks and performances.

Who BLACKPINK has collaborated with

Since making their debut in 2016, the South Korean girl group BLACKPINK has become well-known around the world for their music.

Many different artists, including some of the biggest names in music, have worked with them.

BLACKPINK and Cardi B collaborated on the popular song "Bet You Wanna" in 2020, while Selena Gomez and the group worked together on their song "Ice Cream."

They also put out a successful duet with Lady Gaga on the album Chromatica. In addition, BLACKPINK has worked with other K-pop artists, such as BTS , IU, and EXO.

They most recently worked together on the song "34+35" with American rapper and singer-songwriter Ariana Grande .

The group's musical style

Although they have included a number of other genres in their discography, such as R&B, Arabic music, ballad, disco, and rock, BLACKPINK's music has generally been described as EDM and pop with elements of hip-hop and trap.

Some publications have referred to their frequent use of bass drops—especially those that occur just before the chorus—as part of their signature sound.

The vocals of BLACKPINK's songs have been compared to a combination of aggressive and fearless rapping and frequently "edgy" singing.

BLACKPINK's fanbase is referred to as Blinks

BLACKPINK's adoring followers are referred to as Blinks; member Jennie confirmed this in a birthday letter in which she thanked them for their unwavering love and support.

Its name is a combination of the words "black" and "pink."

If you're taking in what the females are saying, you may soon refer to yourself as a Blink as it's the official fandom moniker.

BLACKPINK was supposed to have nine members

On June 29, YG Entertainment announced the actual name of the new female group— BLACKPINK —and clarified that it will consist of four members rather than the nine that were initially anticipated.

The group's moniker, "pretty isn't everything," denoted that "they are a team that encompasses not only beauty, but also great talent," according to a label spokesman.

Jisoo subsequently said during a press conference that Pink Punk, Baby Monster, and Magnum were among other group names they were considering.

On July 6, BLACKPINK published their debut dancing practice video, which received a lot of media attention.

BLACKPINK's debut date was revealed by YG Entertainment on July 29 for August 8, 2016.

How BLACKPINK was formed, continued

Even though there had been no official announcement, several reports and rumors have appeared regarding the new female group's debut being postponed.

Only on May 18, 2016, did YG Entertainment officially announce that the female group will make its debut in July, adding that the members had been chosen after years of intense competition.

Jang Hanna and Moon Su a, who were made known to the public as prospective members of the new girl group, were subsequently verified by the label not to be on the roster.

How BLACKPINK was formed

After creating its first significant female group, 2NE1, in 2009, YG Entertainment organized global trials for preteen or adolescent recruits in order to develop a new girl group. This is when BLACKPINK was born.

The members described their time as trainees at the label as being equivalent to enrolling in a full-time pop-star academy, with Jennie calling it "more strict than school" and Rosé likening it to The X Factor with dorm quarters.

The pace of training and culture shock were particularly challenging for members who had left their homes outside of South Korea .

When YG Entertainment announced on November 14 that their new girl group would make its debut in the first half of 2012 and have at least seven members, preparations for Blackpink's debut started as early as 2011.

BLACKPINK's album releases

The band has released nine albums in total with four of them being Japanese albums.

BlackPink often releases singles and has had collaborations with Dua Lipa, Lady Gaga, and Selena Gomez .

A list of the albums released by the phenomenally popular K-pop band:

  • BlackPink (Japanese Album)
  • Re:BlackPink (Japanese Album)
  • BlackPink In Your Area (Japanese Album)
  • Kill This Love
  • Kill This Love (Japanese Album)
  • How You Like That

Get to know the members: Lisa

Lisa was born and raised in Thailand and she learned Korean after moving to South Korea in 2011.

She is also fluent in English and Japanese.

A fan-favorite, she is best known for her unique dance moves and rapping, often breaking into an impromptu dance that inevitably ends up going viral.

After releasing her own solo album, she was awarded an MTV Video Music Award for best K-pop video in 2022.

In addition to this, she was awarded two accolades by the Guinness World Records for "most viewed YouTube music video by a solo artist in 24 hours" and "most viewed YouTube music video in 24 hours by a solo K-pop artist."

Get to know the members: Rosé

Born in New Zealand and raised in Australia , Rosé is fluent in English and actually had to learn Korean when she joined the K-pop trainee system.

She is the lead singer of the band and their fanbase cannot get enough of her unique tones.

Rosé released her own solo album in 2021.

Get to know the members: Jisoo

Prior to joining BLACKPINK , Jisoo was an actress and starred in many commercials.

This led to her starring JTBC historical K-drama series Snowdrop.

Despite being the only member of the band to not speak English, she is fluent in Korean, Japanese, and Chinese.

It is planned that she will join the rest of the band members in releasing her own solo album this year.

Get to know the members: Jennie

The band members all graduated from the famous South Korean K-pop trainee system.

Jennie spent the longest time within it out of any member of the group, leaving after six years.

She moved back to South Korea in 2010 after living in New Zealand .

Impressively, she is fluent in English, Korean, and Japanese.

Her individual track Solo made her the first member of the band to release her own music when she did so in 2018.

She will be making her acting debut in 2023 starring in the HBO drama The Idol alongside Lily-Rose Depp .

All about BLACKPINK, continued

BLACKPINK , referred to as the "biggest girl group in the world," is the most popular Korean girl group abroad.

Their second studio album Born Pink, which is the best-selling album of all time by a female act in South Korea and the first to sell over two million copies, peaked at number one on the Billboard 200.

They are the highest charting female Korean act on the US Billboard Hot 100, reaching number 13 with "Ice Cream" (peaking at number 13 in 2020), and on the Billboard 200.

They were the first girl group from Korea to enter and top the Billboard Emerging Artists list as well as the first girl group from the United States to top the Billboard Artist 100.

All about BLACKPINK

Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa make up the South Korean girl group BLACKPINK , which was created by YG Entertainment.

The group made their debut in August 2016 with the release of their single album Square One, which included the songs "Whistle" and "Boombayah," which became their first number-one entries on the Gaon Digital list in South Korea and the US Billboard World Digital Song Sales list, respectively.

Fans celebrating that they got tickets

While some people face issues, others have managed to get out of the queue, lobby, and purchasing portion of Ticketmaster's ticketing experience unscathed.

Some fans are celebrating that they got tickets to the MetLife Stadium tour stop for BLACKPINK .

One person wrote on Twitter : "EVERYBODY SHUT UP I DONT WANNA TALK BOUT IT JK I DO I F*****G I GOT THE BLACKPINK TICKET."

Fans reporting issues with Ticketmaster

With the BLACKPINK ticket sale underway, fans have been tirelessly working to purchase their tickets.

However, one fan took to Twitter to report an issue that they're facing on the Ticketmaster website.

"my friend and I are trying to buy blackpink tickets on ticketmaster," the user wrote , "but it keeps telling us that we have reached the limit even though we only bought 2 in total and the limit is 6 tickets."

The fan has yet to receive a response.

General admission seating for Ticketmaster, explained

The Ticketmaster website says about general admission seating: "General Admission (GA) refers to seating or standing areas that are not assigned or reserved and are occupied on a first-come, first-served basis.

"When purchasing tickets for a GA event, you may be quoted: section, row and seat numbers. However, these are for inventory purposes only and don’t reflect any actual seating location."

What prices look like

Ticket prices for the MetLife Stadium venue of BLACKPINK's Born Pink tour range from $99.50 to $1,250.

The $1,250 tickets are only for those who wish to purchase a "GENERAL ADMISSION STANDING-NO SEAT."

General sale begins NOW

BLACKPINK’s  North American tour will kick off on August 11, 2023, with a performance in East Rutherford,  New Jersey .

You can purchase your tickets for this venue and/or others on Ticketmaster .

Ticketmaster has faced backlash over dynamic pricing

Following some controversy over dynamic pricing,  Ticketmaster  previously said in a  statement : “The promoters and artist representatives determine the specific pricing for their shows.

“The biggest factor that drives pricing is supply and demand. When there are far more people who want to attend an event than there are tickets available, prices go up.”

Dynamic pricing, explained

Live Nation, the owner of  Ticketmaster , uses dynamic pricing, causing ticket prices to rise in response to demand, per the  Scotsman .

According to reports, this action is justified in order to stop tickets from being purchased via secondary ticket marketplaces and transferred.

The increased revenue from more expensive tickets would go to the performer as well.

Historically, more expensive or exclusive seats, such as the front row, are subject to dynamic pricing.

Live Nation asserts that the artist, not the company automatically, enforces Ticketmaster dynamic pricing.

The price of the ticket covers various costs

The article also explains that ticket prices don’t go fully to the artist.

The base ticket price is split between renting the venue, marketing, and production costs, which is why the ticket is padded with extra fees.

“The fees are essentially what keeps companies and platforms like Ticketmaster going,” Luoma said.

“Those fees are then divided up between Ticketmaster, the venue, and anybody else that’s involved with that.”

Jennifer Lopez Cancels Multiple Dates on ‘This Is Me… Now’ Tour Amid Weak Ticket Sales

Jennifer Lopez Variety Cover Story

Jennifer Lopez  has canceled seven dates of her first North American tour in five years, in support of her new album “This Is Me… Now ” and its pair of companion films.

The dates spanning Aug. 20-31 in Cleveland, Nashville, Raleigh, Atlanta, Tampa, New Orleans and Houston were listed as canceled on Ticketmaster at some point on Wednesday; the Cleveland and Houston dates apparently had been removed from the itinerary earlier, as they were part of the tour’s originally announced itinerary on Feb. 15 but are no longer present on the site at all. An u pdated itinerary can be found on her social media accounts.

The album, tour and two films are part of a self-financed $20 million three-part multimedia project examining, as Variety described in a recent cover article , “Lopez’s life as a serial romantic,” regarding her reunion with actor Ben Affleck, whom she married in 2022 nearly two decades after the high-profile superstar couple originally split in the wake of their flop 2003 romantic comedy “Gigli.”

A rep for the artist did not immediately respond to Variety ’s request for comment; the cancellation notice reads simply, “Unfortunately, the Event Organizer has had to cancel your event. No action is required to obtain a refund.”

The cancellations come after Lopez’s new album — her first in a decade — also titled “This Is Me…Now,” debuted at a disappointing No. 38 on the Billboard 200 last month.

The project, which also includes the musical film, “This Is Me…Now: A Love Story,” and a documentary, “The Greatest Love Story Never Told,” is apparently intended as a love-conquers-all statement.

“Everybody thought I was crazy,” Lopez told Variety . “And by the way, I thought I was crazy.”
