10 Best Mountain Towns in Pennsylvania for Your Next Getaway

I’m all for vacations to big cities and bucket-list destinations, but sometimes you need something that’s a little off the beaten path. Nothing beats a quiet getaway where you can really relax and enjoy some beautiful scenery and local shops.

Luckily, the Keystone State has tons of hidden gems just waiting to be discovered. Let’s take a look at 10 of the best mountain towns in Pennsylvania.

Table of Contents

1. Jim Thorpe

Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania

When it comes to mountain ranges in Pennsylvania, the Poconos are king. This area in the northeastern part of the state is famous for enjoyable hikes, pristine lakes, and plenty of quaint towns. A local favorite would have to be Jim Thorpe.

With a population of more than a quarter million people, it doesn’t quite qualify as a small town. But it still has that small-town vibe.

Named after the famous Olympian, this Pennsylvania mountain town is known for elegant architecture and year-round activities. You can go rafting in the summer, enjoy the foliage in the fall, check out a Christmas fair in the winter, or try your hand at mountain biking in the spring.

No matter what time of year you choose to visit, you’ll find a way to enjoy the beauty of Jim Thorpe.

2. Tannersville

View of the Aquatopia indoor waterpark at the Camelback Mountain Resort, a large ski resort in the Poconos mountains in Pennsylvania, United States.

For adventure lovers, Tannersville is an ideal Pocono mountain town. It features the popular Camelback Resort, which includes a ski mountain, indoor and outdoor waterparks, a zipline, and a ropes course. The outdoor adventure park is the biggest in the state, so I doubt you’ll run out of exciting things to do here.

If you’re looking to shop ‘til you drop, there’s also the Crossings Premium Outlets. It features over 100 designer and name brand outlet stores that offer quality products at a bargain. Tannersville is a great getaway for those who want a wide range of different activities right at their fingertips.

Milford, Pennsylvania. USA: Grey Towers (1886), the former home of Gifford Pinchot, the first Chief of the US Forestry Service and two-time Governor of Pennsylvania, is a National Historic site.

Another great Pocono mountain town to explore is Milford. This little destination is both scenic and historic, so it makes for a great getaway.

The Grey Towers National Historic Site is an impressive mansion that’s definitely worth a visit. After your visit there, you can walk around the downtown area and enjoy local restaurants and boutiques, or embark on one of the many outdoor adventure opportunities.

Milford is the northern gateway to the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, a famously beautiful region. You can choose to canoe, kayak, or raft down the river. If you’re more interested in gaining elevation, there are tons of wonderful hikes with views of stunning waterfalls.

4. Delaware Water Gap

A scenic view of the Delaware Water Gap between Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

The Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area encompasses 70,000 acres of some of the most beautiful scenery in the state. It includes Pennsylvania’s two tallest waterfalls, as well as part of the Appalachian Trail. But in addition to the National Recreation Area, there’s the quaint small town of Delaware Water Gap.

This cozy village is known for hosting through-hikers and tourists alike. There are plenty of mom-and-pop shops, delicious restaurants, and charming accommodations to enjoy here. If you’re a jazz lover, there’s even a historic venue called The Deerhead Inn.

Delaware Water Gap is the perfect mix of exciting adventure and small-town charm.

5. Stroudsburg

Main Street Stroudsburg

Just west of Delaware Water Gap is the mountain town of Stroudsburg. Its location allows visitors to enjoy many different outdoor activities in the surrounding areas, including plenty of hiking trails to enjoy the local scenery. Kittatinny Mountain is a local favorite, as it offers stunning views and a relatively flat route.

Stroudsburg also offers a robust downtown area with mural-lined streets and tons of local shops. Dunkelberger’s Sports Outfitters is a favorite for stocking up on any outdoor gear, while The Olde Engine Works is the go-to spot for antiques.

6. Honesdale

Vintage coaches of the Stourbridge Line train in Honesdale, PA.

There are always more Pocono mountain towns to discover, so here’s one more: Honesdale. This tiny town is known as the “birthplace of the American railroad,” as it was the first place in the country to welcome a steam locomotive in 1829. Train lovers will feel right at home in this historic village.

Besides its interesting history, Honesdale is also known for having plenty of recreation opportunities and a wide variety of eateries and accommodations. You can grab a quick bite at Paulie’s Hot Dogs, or enjoy a nice sit-down meal at Native. No matter the occasion or the season, there’s always something exciting to explore here.

Lake Wallenpaupack is a reservoir in the US state of Pennsylvania. It is the third largest lake in the state. It is located near the town of Hawley and is part of the Pike and Wayne districts.

The Pocono region is obviously known for its mountains, but there are some stunning local lakes to explore, too. Lake Wallenpaupack, the second-largest lake in Pennsylvania, is a popular getaway destination. Located right near the lake is the small town of Hawley.

Hawley is known for its beautiful fall foliage and plethora of bike trails. If you’re looking for some adventure on land and lakes, this is the place. Once you’re done biking and enjoying the stunning scenery, you can enjoy a five-star meal at The Settlers Inn or a fine drink at Glass – Wine. Bar. Kitchen.

8. Lakeville

Sunset at frozen Lake Wallenpaupack in Pennsylvania

Aptly named, Lakeville is another village on the shores of Lake Wallenpaupack. Its convenient location makes it a great place to stay if you’re looking for lots of aquatic adventures. Just rent a boat and enjoy all that Lake Wallenpaupack has to offer.

Whether you choose to camp or stay at a resort, there are options in Lakeville. One well-known local resort is Cove Haven. This couples-only getaway is famous for its romantic decor and heart-shaped tubs. It’s the perfect spot for couples looking to have a romantic escape with a touch of adventure.

The Poconos aren’t the only mountains to explore in Pennsylvania. Head to the southwestern part of the state and you’ll find the Allegheny Mountain Ridge. There are lots of little towns sprinkled around this area, but Bedford is one you definitely won’t want to miss.

The town has some historical significance , as it was once the headquarters of George Washington during the Whiskey Rebellion of 1794. But what the town is really known for is its mineral springs. One resort in particular, the Omni Bedford Springs Resort, is a stunning property with plenty of relaxing mineral springs to enjoy.

10. Meyersdale

Not too far down the road from Bedford, you’ll find the quaint town of Meyersdale. This “trail town” is located along the 150-mile Great Allegheny Passage, which serves as a hiking and biking trail through Maryland and Pennsylvania.

Meyersdale is also known for the scenic Salisbury Viaduct, a picturesque bridge that spans the Casselman River valley. If you happen to be in the area in early spring, you’ll be treated to the local Pennsylvania Maple Festival. There are few things better than beautiful views and fresh maple syrup.

While all these towns offer something just a little different, they all have one thing in common: character.

Going on a mountain getaway in Pennsylvania pretty much guarantees you’ll find a new, exciting trail or adorable little restaurant. Each of these towns has its own personality and culture that’s just waiting to be discovered.

I’m sure there are even more hidden gems out there that I just haven’t heard about yet. If you know of any, feel free to let us know in the comments!

Emporium PA is one of the best real mountain towns in the eastern US. Mountains and rivers without end. Hiking, biking, kayaking, wildlife, it has it all.

The 50 Must-See Attractions in the Poconos, Pennsylvania & Fun things to do near me today:

Attraction Spotlight: Jack Frost Big Boulder

Jack Frost has six dining options on the mountain, including The Frosty Toboggan Bar & Grill, which offers table service for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The Fiddler's Fridge In E-2000 Bar & Lounge offers après-ski, live music, and dancing.

Big Boulder Mountain provides a distinctly different experience with the most progressive and innovative terrain park system in the Poconos. The mountain features ten trails and five terrain parks. Trails span a vertical drop of 475 feet from a summit elevation of 2,175 feet. The terrain parks at Big Boulder were recognized in 2016 by Transworld Magazine and Newschoolers.com as belonging among the top five terrain parks in the Eastern United States. The terrain parks offer a variety of features, including tree bonks, various rails and boxes, wallrides, tubes, and A-frames. Terrain parks are accessible to both beginner and expert snowboarders. Visitors will find two of the resort’s three retail shops on this mountain, including the Boulder Park Lodge Shop and The Basement. Big Boulder Mountain offers five distinct dining options, from family-night pizza deals at the Lodge Cafeteria to the Burrito Bar at the Cantina, where guests can create their own burritos.

With extensive snowmaking capabilities, Jack Frost Big Boulder has consistently been the first park in the area to open and the last to close each season. Rental shops are located at the base of each mountain and offer tune and repair services in addition to equipment rentals. Lockers and bag checks are available at both mountains and may be used daily, or guests may purchase annual passes to store belongings through the season. Lockers can hold up to 4 sets of skis and snowboards. Both mountains offer snowtubing. The 3-hour long sessions begin at set times, so visitors are encouraged to check the website for the schedule ahead of time.

History: Jack Frost Big Boulder was the first commercial ski resort in Pennsylvania and the first to successfully use snowmaking on a commercial slope. In the 1940s at the height of the coal mining industry, employees of the Lehigh Coal and Navigation Company built a company retreat on the shores of Lake Harmony called the Split Rock Club, which included the Hazzard Ski Slope. In 1947, the lodge was sold and Hazzard became known as the Big Boulder Ski Area. Jack Frost opened in 1972 as a companion resort to the Big Boulder Ski Area, and both mountains now collectively operate as Jack Frost Big Boulder. Guests are welcome to use both resorts on the same lift ticket. JFBB proudly claims to be the first snowmaking mountain. The snowmaking machine was invented by a Big Boulder Ski Area employee, John Guresh, in 1956. Guresh’s machine resembled a sprinkler and created ice crystals that mimicked the look and feel of snow. Today’s JFBB resort is a subsidy of Peak Resorts, which owns and manages a dozen ski resorts, primarily in the Northeastern United States.

Ongoing Programs and Education: The Ski School at JFBB offers a variety of programming for children and adults. Children’s Day Programs are available for kids aged 3-10. Adult Group Programs offer 1 or 3-hour lessons for beginners or advanced skiers. An Adaptive Program is available on weekends for skiers with disabilities. Junior development and ski teams meet each weekend throughout the season, and there is a racing program available for parents as well. In addition to private and group lessons, a variety of weekend workshops and seminars are scheduled each season and are updated on the JFBB website.

Past and Future Exhibits: Past seminars at JFBB have included a Women’s Weekend Workshop. This 2-day intensive ski and snowboard workshop for women aged 18 and above was coached by women and included breakfast in the morning and a cocktail hour after the day’s skiing. The 2016–2017 season included Senior Wednesday Clinics for skiers over the age of 60 as well as Thursday Men’s Clinics and Ladies’ Tuesday clinics. Clinics met weekly and were free with the purchase of a lift ticket.

Attraction Spotlight: Pocono Environmental Education Center

Although the first year proved to be difficult for the Pocono Environmental Education Center, the Center persevered and quickly created new initiatives and began renovations. What used to be the honeymoon resort quickly became the perfect and ideal facility for the Pocono Environmental Education Center. Within one year of opening, approximately 1,800 people participated in at least one of the Center’s programs.

Although the Pocono Environmental Education Center spent their early years within a partnership with the Keystone Junior College, the Center incorporated as their own non-profit organization, which was also private, in 1986. With this change, the Center’s Board of Trustees went from only seven members to more than twenty. The number of staff also increased. In 1972, the Center only had four employees, but by the mid-1980s, the Center had around 24 employees. With a larger staff and Board of Trustees, as well as new initiatives and sole control, the annual visitors and participants exponentially increased.

In recent years, the Pocono Environmental Education Center has continued to expand its programs and facilities. During the early 2000s, the Center renovated their Dining Hall, as well as open the Visitor Activity Center and YURT village.

Main Education Building is the premier location for most of the Pocono Environmental Education Center’s activities, presentations, gatherings, and classes. The Main Education Building contains offices, classrooms, educational displays, and even a bookstore.

The Nature Lodge is the perfect location for smaller gatherings, as well as smaller sized classes and activities. Many private events take place at the Nature Lodge.

Outdoor Teaching / Meeting Venues are a series of pavilion and gazeboes, which serve as the perfect place for outdoor activities, gatherings, and classes.

For more information about the attractions at the Pocono Environmental Education Center, head over to the Center’s website. Since the Center is primarily used as a public park for exploration, recreational activities, and outdoor sports, majority of visitors spend their time exploring the natural outdoor elements of the Center, and head to one of the attractions to participate in a short class or presentation.

Written by Shandley McMurray Updated Mar 23, 2023 We may earn a commission from affiliate links ( )

Pennsylvania's Pocono Mountains are among the most popular weekend destinations for visitors from nearby New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut . Known locally as the Poconos, this natural wonderland is packed with fun things to do to occupy tourists of all ages in every season.

Fall colors in the Poconos

While winter is the best time to visit the Poconos for skiing, snow tubing, and skating, summer is just as enchanting for outdoor enthusiasts and couples looking for a weekend away in a romantic resort.

It's hard to beat the scenery and the laid-back vibe of this beautiful Northeastern locale. Hike though the area's dense forests, paddle or swim in the many lakes and rivers, or soar through the skies on a zipline—it's impossible to be bored with so much on offer.

Discover the best places to visit with our list of the top things to do in the Poconos.

1. Pan for Gems at Bushkill Falls

2. go whitewater rafting at lehigh gorge state park, 3. hike through ricketts glen state park, 4. visit the asa packer mansion, 5. explore the boulder field at hickory run state park, 6. hit the slopes at blue mountain resort, 7. camp at delaware water gap national recreation area, 8. zipline at camelback mountain adventure, 9. soak in a pool at seven tubs recreation area, 10. fish in promised land state park, 11. feel the buzz at pocono raceway, 12. soak up the views at big pocono state park, mount pocono, pa - climate chart.

Bushkill Falls

Visitors to Bushkill Falls , dubbed the "Niagara of Pennsylvania," are in for a treat. Instead of just one small cascade, you'll see eight.

The Main Falls tumble dramatically down a 100-foot drop and are easily reached by following the Green Trail for 15 minutes.

If you're hoping to see all eight falls, the Red Trail is the best bet. It will take about two hours to follow the two-mile path.

Families love the wide range of activities on offer at Bushkill Falls, but perhaps the most child-pleasing fun involves mining for gemstones in Nature Nook . Tourists purchase a "mining rough" bag, use the sluice to sift the bag's contents, and discover the hidden gems, which they can take home.

Other activities include fishing, picnicking, paddle boating, playing miniature golf, and trying your luck in the maze. There's also a snack bar and fudge kitchen on hand. No wonder this has been voted one of the best places to visit in the Poconos.

When it comes time to rest, book a stay at one of the many enchanting resorts in the area. There are plenty of great options to choose from.

Address: Bushkill Falls Road, P.O. Box 151, Bushkill, Pennsylvania

Rapids in Lehigh Gorge State Park

If you're looking for active things to do while vacationing in the Poconos, a trip to Lehigh Gorge State Park will tick all the boxes. At over 6,000 acres, this stunning park is set in a rocky gorge, its heart the rushing river that created it over hundreds of years. Visitors flock here to enjoy the thrill of white water rafting.

Other slightly less adventurous activities include biking, hiking the 20 miles of trails , and fishing.

This park is also home to three impressive waterfalls . Cascade, Buttermilk Falls, and Luke's Falls are worthy of a visit, and at least a dozen photos, so be sure to charge your camera.

The park can be reached from White Haven, Glen Onoko, and Rockport, where you'll find ample parking.

Trail next to a waterfall in Ricketts Glen State Park

Ricketts Glen State Park is so large, it stretches across three counties: Sullivan, Luzerne, and Columbia.

Within the 13,193-acre park lie 22 waterfalls , a beach, the sparkling Lake Jean , and enough hiking trails that you could walk all day and well into the next. Be sure to wear proper shoes, though, as sandals are forbidden on the trails.

To find 21 of the falls, guests must follow the aptly named Falls Trail in the Glens Natural Area. The other waterfall, named Adams, can be easily reached from the Evergreen Parking Lot.

If you can't get enough of the beauty in this state park, don't worry—visitors are welcome to spend the night in the campground. During the summer, tourists can also enjoy food and refreshments by the beach.

Activities on offer include fishing, boating, hiking, and swimming. In the winter, ice fishing is one of the most popular things to do alongside cross-country skiing and snowmobiling.

Asa Packer Mansion

It's easy to see why the Asa Packer Mansion gets so much attention—its Italiante architecture and Victorian décor are enchanting.

Once home to railroad magnate and philanthropist, Asa Packer, this National Historic Landmark dates to 1861. It was designed by architect Samuel Sloan and has been operating as a museum since 1956. In the off-season, the museum is open on weekends.

Inside, visitors will find 18 rooms spread across three elegant stories. From Memorial Day through October, the mansion is open daily. All tours are about 45 minutes long and guided by friendly docents who have great knowledge about the Packer Family and the home's historic contents. Book in advance to ensure you have a spot.

Insider's tip: There's no parking at the mansion, so head to the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway Parking lot instead.

Address: Packer Hill Avenue, Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania

Boulder Field in Hickory Run State Park

Hickory Run State Park covers a whopping 15,990 acres in Carbon County and boasts the captivating Hawk Falls , peaceful Stametz Dam, and more than 40 hiking trails for adventurous guests to explore. As one of the area's top attractions, you'll want to arrive early to ensure you find a parking spot, especially if you're visiting in spring, summer, or fall.

Ogling the park's otherworldly Boulder Field is one of the best free things to do in the Poconos. Instead of being covered in verdant grasses, this vast field is blanketed in boulders.

Some are as large as 26 feet long and although precarious, especially if you have weak ankles, walking on and around them is an exciting adventure. Be sure to wear sturdy shoes when trekking in this National Natural Landmark !

Other popular activities for families include swimming in Sand Spring Lake, fishing, playing disc golf, checking out the visitor center, and enjoying a picnic.

Top 15 things to do in the Poconos: nature, nightlife and ski slopes

Anchored by thick forested peaks and known for its bounty of skiing and other cold-weather activities, Pennsylvania’s Pocono Mountains region is actually a prime place to visit any time of year.

Outdoor adventurers will love the scenic hiking trails and ample birdwatching, the area’s lakes and rivers attract boaters and watersports enthusiasts, and the resorts and waterparks dotting the region will appeal to families with kids of all ages.

Here’s our guide to the best things to do in the Poconos – from sipping craft beer to tasting farm-fresh cheese – all throughout the year.

Go ziplining in Kittatinny

Make like the bald eagles and peregrine falcons that call this area home and soar over the treetops on a zipline. The area is home to several places to hook on, including Kittatinny located near the Delaware River, which lets adventurers fly down a private mountain 150ft in the air at speeds up to 60mph.

The Treetop Adventure Course at Skytop Lodge, about 45 minutes from Scranton, PA , is over 3000ft of elevated bridges and challenging (but delightfully fun) obstacles. Open in the warmer months, check before booking for age and height requirements.

Glide down a mountain

Pennsylvanians come from all over the state each winter to queue up at lift lines and zip down the slopes at mountains such as  Jack Frost and Big Boulder , Shawnee , and Camelback .

Each resort offers well-maintained trails, rental equipment and ski lessons, plus amenities like bars, restaurants and lockers for day visits. Novices can also book a lesson to learn the basics before heading out on the bunny hills. Some mountains, like Big Boulder, offer night skiing.

If you're not a fan of skis and snowboards, some mountain resorts offer snow tubing, arcades and even waterparks.

Splash in wave pools at indoor water parks

Prefer your tubing to be a little warmer? The Poconos region has a slew of indoor water parks with wave pools, splash pads and water slides to zoom down with rafts or without – all in a balmy 84-degree winter oasis.

With its myriad slides, plus a lazy river, pint-sized pools, character breakfasts and a nightly pajama read-along for overnight guests, Great Wolf Lodge is ideal for families with younger kids. At Kalahari Resorts , try surfing or boogie boarding on the Flowrider five-foot wave simulator.

When the temperature rises, Camelback Mountain is also home to Pennsylvania’s largest outdoor water park , which opens each spring and summer.

An older couple sit on the side of Lake Wallenpaupack watching the sun set

Head to Lake Wallenpaupack for a day on the water

With over 150 lakes and several rivers, it’s easy to find a place in the Poconos to plunge in and paddle . Visitors who would rather go with a guide (or just need the equipment) will find plenty of adventure outfitters that offer a range of activities, from leisurely tubing and scenic kayaking or canoeing, to adrenaline-pumping whitewater rafting.

Alternatively, BYOB (bring your own boat) and make for Lake Wallenpaupack, aka Lake Wally, with its six public recreation areas offering draws like public beaches, hiking trails, boat slips, and more. Jet skiers can seek out the lake’s Party Cove for a vibe that matches its name.

Roll the dice at the Mount Airy Casino Resort

There’s loads more on offer at the Mount Airy Casino Resort than placing bets, though there’s plenty of that too, from slot machines to a poker room.

The splashy Mount Pocono resort attracts couples, families, and groups of friends with its indoor and outdoor pools, golf course and spa.

Restaurants and a roster of live entertainment, from concerts to comedy shows are also a draw for visitors, whether they’re staying overnight or just in for an evening.

Go for a hike at Big Pocono State Park

The 1300-acre Big Pocono State Park has over eight miles of mountaintop hiking trails, with sweeping views of New Jersey , New York and Pennsylvania from its peaks. The park’s three picnic areas also have tables and charcoal grills, so pack provisions and enjoy lunch or dinner overlooking a beautiful forested panorama.

Horseback riding and mountain biking are also open on certain trails, and there’s plenty of fauna and flora – from blueberry bushes to mountain laurel and wildflowers – to admire. The park closes in the winter months and reopens in April.

The 400-acre Seven Tubs Recreation Area inside Pinchot State Forest gets its name from the potholes created by glacial meltwater. Hike one of two trails – the 0.3-mile main loop that takes you directly to the tubs, or the 1.8-mile Audubon Loop Trail that shows off a bit more of the surrounding streams and mountains.

Sample craft beer and sake!

Award-winning beers, a spacious brewpub, and a kids' menu make Wallenpaupack Brewing Company in Hawley, Pennsylvania a supremely family-friendly spot. In the summer, the sprawling outdoor beer garden has lawn games and picnic tables. When it comes to the menu, try some of the creative offerings, like jalapeno cream ale, pink guava IPA, and fruited sour.

In Honesdale, visit Here and Now Brewing for an ever-changing selection of IPAs made in small batches using seasonal and local ingredients. Open in the summertime, visit Second District Brew Farm for microbrews with a verdant view.

Looking for something a little different? Sango Kura is Pennsylvania’s first and only sake brewery and is located in Delaware Water Gap. Order a bottle of dry-hopped sake with a bowl of spicy pork bone marrow ramen made with handcrafted noodles.

A wooden boardwalk and stairs that lead a path through Bushkill Falls canyon and waterfalls

Visit Bushkill Falls and its eight waterfalls

Also known as the “Niagara Falls of Pennsylvania”, Bushkill Falls is actually a series of eight waterfalls, along with a web of hiking trails set amid lush woodland.

Trails range from easy – the green trail takes about 15 minutes and doesn’t involve climbing – to more difficult. The most arduous is the red trail, which takes about two hours to traverse about two miles, and shows off views of all eight falls.

Bushkill’s 300-acre recreation area also includes fishing and paddle boating on Twin Lakes, picnic pavilions and a sprawling kids’ playground – it closes in the winter and reopens in the spring.

Take a dip in the Delaware River

Delaware Water Gap is a National Recreation Area encompassing 70,000 acres around the Delaware River in both Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Besides hiking and biking trails, boating and fishing, swimming is a popular activity here, thanks to the area’s three accessible beaches.

On the PA side, Milford Beach and Smithfield Beach both have restroom facilities, boat launches and picnic areas (there are no grills, but you can bring your own).

From the beach, there’s easy access to Joseph M. McDade Recreational Trail, which has beautiful river views for hikers, bikers and cross-country skiers of all levels.

Go fishing for trout at Hickory Run State Park

Hickory Run State Park ’s 400-by-1800ft boulder field attracts visitors from all over the state. Giant gray rocks 12ft deep (and some 26ft long) carpet the entire area. The landscape has stayed nearly the same for over 20,000 years.

But one of the park’s best draws is the trove of fishing spots. Some of its streams are stocked with brown and brook trout, and some have a native trout population. Hawk Run, for example, is classified as a Class A Wild Trout Stream.

The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources has a calendar of events , too, which includes classes like introduction to fly fishing. The free class meets at the park visitors center, and includes all the gear and expert instruction on casting techniques, knot tying, and more basic skills to get you angling like a pro in no time.

Go for a horseback ride

The Poconos offer plenty of places to saddle up for a guided tour. Bushkill Riding Stables in East Stroudsburg offers 30- to 45-minute trail rides all year long.

Daisy Field Farm near White Haven offers family trail rides that bring together the whole crew for an outing accessible to any skill level. Wagon and sleigh rides are also on offer when there’s snow on the ground. There’s also a farm to enjoy with the kids.

Mountain Creek Riding Stables in Cresco cater to beginners and intermediate riders for its scenic, daily and year-round forest trails.

The main street in the town of Jim Thorpe at dusk with fairy lights decorating each side of the street

Explore the historic town of Jim Thorpe

Named after Native American Olympic athlete Jim Thorpe (from the Sac and Fox nation), the small town bisected by the Lehigh River is filled with history and charm.

Stroll Broadway and stop into shops like Somersault Letterpress to admire handcrafted cards and stationery made with vintage machines from the 1930s and 50s. At Wild Elder Wine & Cider Co. , order a flight to sample sparkling Elderberry cider and native grape wines. Oh, and please don’t miss Donerds Donuts and their tasty handmade treats next door.

Trace the town’s history with a visit to the Asa Packer Mansion , a museum and former home of the railroad magnate and Lehigh University Founder. Docent-guided tours are available when the museum is open, from April to November.

Before leaving town, sit down for dinner at Notch Eight Craft House, where plates of smoked brisket tacos and cheesy tots are paired with Pennsylvania-made beer and booze.

Note: Although Thorpe is buried in Pennsylvania, his relatives have unsuccessfully long petitioned for his bones to be brought back to Oklahoma.

Sip locally made spirits

Several Poconos distilleries have tasting rooms where you can sample made-from-scratch spirits. At Silverback Distillery , a mother-daughter duo is crafting small-batch bourbon and citrus-infused gin. Visit the tasting room in East Stroudsburg for cocktail flights, and while they offer some snacks, you can also bring your own feast.

At Barley Creek Distillery in Tannersville, try small-batch spirits like vodka, whiskey and moonshine, and a line of ready-to-drink canned cocktails.

Sorrenti Family Estate is the oldest winery in the Poconos, but also makes spirits and wood-fired pizzas (try the Michaelangelo). Visit the tasting room, and on warmer days, sit outside on the veranda.

Shop for farm-fresh provisions

A bounty of farmers, bakers, and other makers offer a true taste of the region from roadside farm stands and small shops. Check out Village Farmer and Bakery in Delaware Water Gap for over 30 varieties of pies – including cherry, apple crumb and shoofly – made daily.

Pocono Organics in Blakeslee is North America’s largest regenerative organic-certified farm. Browse the market for farm-fresh groceries, and stay for lunch at the cafe for chef-crafted soups and salads.

At Calkins Creamery in Honesdale, meet the cows that supply milk for the cave-aged cheeses. Sample the varieties before stocking up on wheels of Noblette, a buttery brie-style cheese.

Activity Guide

Comparing attractions: which one is right for you.

Deciding what’s the best thing to do is challenging.

When choosing, it’s best to consider the factors and preferences you’re looking for.

While on vacation at The Poconos, we had a blast trying out the activities and places we visited.

We tried the Mount Pocono Observation Air and Delaware Water Gap Air Tour.

It was a marvelous and unforgettable experience for my whole family.

However, it is time-limited and expensive but worth the penny.

We also visited the Camelbeach Mountain Waterpark.

My kids have loved everything since the first day, and we wanted to return soon.

We enjoyed the activities, and my kids loved the different water rides.

The only downside was the food they serve is pricey.

With our recent vacation to The Pocono Mountains Area, we left with a smile and memories to cherish,

These activities and the top places we visited offered something for everyone.

So, before choosing the best things to do, consider the factors and preferences you’re looking for.

How I Picked The Activities

As a parent and travel writer, I’ve been reviewing places we visited on every vacation.

I’ve picked the best things to do from our Pocono family getaway.

And aside from my firsthand experience, I also researched and interviewed other tourists to write an honest review.

Our Rating Method

I rate these attractions based on the following criteria:

  • Family-Friendliness: I use this criterion to assess the family-friendly appeal of every activity. Is it suitable for families with kids? Is it safe, engaging, and fun for children? I ask myself these questions in order to rate family-friendliness.
  • Affordability: This is used to evaluate the attraction’s affordability. Will visitors get a lot of bang for their buck? Is it free or cheaper compared to the other options? Does it offer discounted rates, special promotions, or free entry? I consider these factors when rating affordability.
  • Accessibility: This evaluates the activity’s accessibility. Is it easily accessible by public transportation? Are there plenty of parking spaces available? Is it wheelchair accessible? I ask myself these questions when assessing the attraction’s accessibility.
  • Fun Factor: I use this to evaluate how enjoyable the attraction is for visitors. Will it create positive and memorable experiences? Is it engaging, fun, and exciting? I use these questions to evaluate this criterion.
  • Educational Value: This assesses the educational benefits of the activity. Does it provide learning opportunities to kids? Will it teach visitors lessons in science and history? I ask myself these important questions when rating educational value.

But whatever you are looking for, you’ll surely leave feeling satisfied and fulfilled.

As for our family vacation in the Pocono, we’ve created lasting memories.

For instance, the Delaware Water Gap Air Tour gave us an unforgettable experience with a private sightseeing tour.

My kids enjoyed the most at Camelbeach Mountain Waterpark with all the fun activities and great water rides.

You can take your kids to Kalahari Waterpark if you want a better alternative.

They will have a  blast with both thrilling rides and heart-racing attractions.

However, it’s essential to acknowledge some of their drawbacks.

It’s expensive for a Delaware Water Gap Air Tour, while Camelbeach Mountain Waterpark has pricey food.

Visiting Mount Davis: The Tallest Mountain in Pennsylvania

Mount Davis: The Tallest Mountain in Pennsylvania

Pennsylvania is home to many mountains and rolling hills, but have you ever wondered what is the highest point in Pennsylvania?

Mount Davis in PA’s Somerset County has the distinction of being the tallest mountain in Pennsylvania. The peak of the mountain is in Forbes State Forest about four and a half miles north of the Maryland border.

It sits along a 30-mile ridgeline known as Negro Mountain (Note: Maybe we should think about changing that name one of these days).

Mount Davis: The highest peak in PA

Amazingly, at a mere 3,213 feet above sea level, the peak of Mount Davis is actually at a lower elevation than the lowest point in the entire state of Colorado. Still, visiting the peak of Mount Davis offers not only the chance to visit the highest point in PA, but also offers great views and some nice hiking.

Mount Davis is located roughly 10 miles west of Meyersdale, Pennsylvania. Reaching the top of the mountain is quite easy as a road takes you all the way to the top of the hill.

Mount Davis Observation Tower in PA

From a large parking lot just off of Mount Davis Road, it’s less than 100 yards of flat walking to the official peak.

The forested hillsides of Mount Davis provide nary a view of the surrounding countryside. Fortunately, there is an observation tower than stands more than 50 feet above the highest point in PA and provides commanding 360-degree views.

For those that are nervous about climbing the structure, it should be noted that not only is the view amazing, but the structure is surprisingly sturdy and I couldn’t feel any sway in it even during wind gusts.

Highest Point in Pennsylvania: Mount Davis Observation Tower

Interestingly, from the top of the Mount Davis observation tower, it appears that several of the nearby peaks are actually higher than the one you are on. However, signage at the top of the tower indicates that this is an optical illusion and gives the calculated heights for each of these mountaintops.

After taking your time to enjoy the amazing view from the top of the tower atop the tallest mountain in Pennsylvania (and realizing that, at that moment in time, no one in PA is at a higher elevation than you are), head back to ground level.

The highest point is Pennsylvania is atop Mount Davis in Somerset County

Just past the observation tower is a small display that tells a bit about the history and geography of the area. While there are a few less than politically correct phrases that date the panels, they still provide some good information and are worth checking out.

For those that wish to continue exploring the area, there is are 10 miles of trails that crisscross Mount Davis. A popular five-mile loop can be found here .

View from the tower on Mount Davis in Pennsylvania

If you are pressed for time, a quick spot worth checking out is Baughman Rocks (not to be confused with a vista of the same name in nearby Ohiopyle State Park ).

A trail of less than 100 yards from a small dirt parking area along Mount Davis Road takes you to the top of the rocks. Here, you’ll find benches, as well as a sign that tells about one of the most interesting stories connected to the rocks.

Baughman Rocks at Mount Davis near Myersdale, PA

If you do visit, use caution if you opt to step out onto the rocks, as the crevices between the rocks are roughly 30 feet deep, which would make for a rather dangerous fall.

While Mount Davis might be all that high, the chance to visit the tallest mountain in Pennsylvania is something that shouldn’t be missed. Not only is there the chance for fantastic views from the top of the observation tower, but it offers a chance to experience the beauty of this corner of Pennsylvania’s Laurel Highlands .

(Find out about visiting the second-tallest mountain in PA at Blue Knob State Park in Bedford County .)

How to Get to the Top of the Tallest Mountain in PA

The easiest way to get to the top of the highest peak in Pennsylvania is to drive. A road takes you to within steps of the top of Mount Davis.

There is a parking lot just off of Mount Davis Road which can be found at the following coordinates: 39.785969, -79.178114. Note that this area often receives a lot of snow in the winter, and the parking lot may or may not be maintained during the colder months of the year.

From the parking lot, walk past the gate to your left. The Mount Davis Observation Tower is only about 100 yards past the gate at the following coordinates: 39.786085, -79.176974.

5 thoughts on “Visiting Mount Davis: The Tallest Mountain in Pennsylvania”

Negro just means “black” (as in the color) in Spanish. The name was originated by the PA settlers, long before slavery.

Yes, but one of the stories of how it got named was after African-Americans in the area, which would make its naming questionable.

Negro Mountain was discovered by the French explorers back many years ago. They named it negro mountain after the fact that the Mountain look black from a distance . The French word for black is negro . Has nothing to do with race ! There is plaques in the area of the tower stating this, plus other interesting facts of this area are on plaques there to read . Interesting place to visit.

There are several interpretations of how it got its name. That’s not one I’ve heard or read before.

That’s not true. Black mountain in French would be: montagne noire

Top 15 Beautiful Places to Visit in Pennsylvania

A wonderful and potent mix of the traditional and the forward-thinking, vibrant cities and gentle countryside, and a myriad of culture clashes, I personally think it’s one of the most intriguing states in the US!

It’s home to some seriously stunning beauty spots, with sprawling lakes, dense areas of untouched forest, scenic Fall drives, and striking cities filled with gorgeous shiny man-made structures. If you want to see the best of the state I’ve put together this list…

1. Allegheny National Forest

Allegheny National Forest

I would recommend not missing this stunning spot! The only National Forest in Pennsylvania, the Allegheny National Forest is situated in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. Established in 1923, the Allegheny National Forest comprises plateau tops and diverse hardwood forests.

The heart of this forested landscape is the Alleghany Reservoir or the Kinzua Lake with miles of beautiful shorelines and myriad recreational activities that in my opinion you shouldn’t miss!

If you’re adventurous, I would recommend hiking the Jakes Rock Overlooks and numerous other scenic trails in this charming forest!

  • Address: Marienville, near Warren, PA 16239
  • Best Time to Visit : Fall comes with colored trees. Spring and summer offer the best weather conditions for outdoor activities such as hiking and camping.

  My Favorite Highlights…

  • Hiking the Rimrock trail, which lead me to a gorgoeus scenic overlook.
  • Going boating at Allegheny Reservoir.
  • Discovering Kinzua Sky Walk which offers panoramic views through a glass-bottomed observation deck.

2. Presque Isle State Park

The only seashore of the Keystone State, the Presque Isle State Park is an arch-like sandy peninsula jutting into Lake Erie. At the neck of the peninsula is the broad and deep harbor for Erie. The radiant coastline, sandy beaches, and diverse ecosystem make the Presque Isle a hub of recreational activities!

With 13 designated beaches to swim, surf or sunbathe, the Presque Isle’s beaches are filled with colorful ‘sea’ glass and endless fun. The historic spot of the state park, the Presque Isle Lighthouse has been a guiding light for passing ships since the 1870s.

A National Natural Landmark, the Presque Isle is one of the top birding spots for endangered species, so I suggest not missing this one!

  • Address: 301 Peninsula Dr, Erie, PA 16505
  • Best Time to Visit: Summer and autumn season.

My Favorite Highlights…

  • Paddleboarding on the lake (rentals are available seasonally).
  • Visitng the lighthouse which cost $8 but it was well worth it!
  • Biking on the paved Karl Boyes Multi-Purpose Trail, with offered lakeside scenery.

3. Philadelphia

One of America’s most historic cities, Philadelphia has a stunning skyline, numerous historic landmarks, cobbled streets, and outdoor markets which in my opinion make it a superb city. It still has an edge to it though so it’s never boring!

I would recommend visiting the iconic Independence National Historical Park, a legendary site where the American Constitution was drafted, and the Liberty Bell, which has rich exhibits of American history.

My other favorite attractions I think you should include are the Philadelphia Museum of Art and Ben Franklin Museum and then don’t forget to explore downtown Philly with its scrumptious cuisines and eclectic shops.

  • Address: Philadelphia, PA 19019-9100.
  • Best Time to Visit: You can enjoy activities year-round in Philadelphia. However, avoid the winter season to enjoy more outdoor activities.
  • Exploring Philadelphia Museum of Art which is home to classic pieces.
  • Exploring the intriguing Eastern State Penitentiary museum.
  • Visiting the historic Liberty Bell an iconic symbol of American independence.

4. Bushkill Falls

Bushkill Falls Pennsylvania

Nestled in the Poconos Mountains on the edge of the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, the Bushkill Falls is one of the region’s tallest and most powerful waterfalls.

Hidden deep in the woods bordered by cliff-hugging boardwalks I personally think the Bushkill Falls is a real gem!

Comprising eight beautiful waterfalls, the Main Falls or the namesake Bushkill Falls is the centerpiece of the attraction. With interconnected trails and walkways, you can reach the base and the crest to experience the crystal-clear water gushing from the springs.

  • Address: Bushkill, PA 18324
  •   Best Time to Visit: Closed during the winter season, it is best for summer, spring, and fall.
  • Taking the easy Green Trail.
  • Taking a picnic and finding the perfect spot nearby a nearby stream.

5. Blue Marsh Lake

The Blue Marsh Lake, which was primarily built for flood control by the US Army Corps of Engineers, has become a hub of outdoor recreation.

Located in western Berks County, the Blue Marsh Lake offers 1,147 acres of water for boating with varied hiking trails.

A manmade wonder, Blue Marsh Lake’s recreation area offers so many things to do right from swimming (please note there are no lifeguards on duty here though), skiing, and picnicking and my personal favorite kite-flying!

  • Address: 1268 Palisades Drive Leesport, PA 19533
  • Best Time to Visit: Spring and fall season.
  • Going boating on the stunning lake which was a tranquil, zen-like experience!
  • Spotting wildlife and bird life, including massive gulls and ruffed grouse.

6. Pennsylvania State Capitol, Harrisburg

In my opinion, this is one of the architectural treasures of the nation; the Pennsylvania State Capitol is where history, art, and learning work in perfect sync.

Often called a ‘palace of art’, the state capitol is filled with sculptures, murals, and stained glass windows with decorative Renaissance themes.

Featuring a breathtaking rotunda and Paris Opera-themed staircase, the majestic St. Peter’s Cathedral-inspired dome sits atop the building with a gilded bronze statue.

Part of the sprawling State Capitol Complex, the complex grounds also include the State Museum of Pennsylvania , which has many historical buildings and memorials.

  • Address: 501 N 3rd St, Harrisburg, PA 17120
  • Best Time to Visit: Open to year-round visitations, but best to visit on weekdays.
  • Seeing the majestic staircase!
  • Going on an interesting scheduled a tour which had a very knowledgable guide.

7. Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh Pennsylvania

The second-largest city of the Keystone State, Pittsburgh is known for its rich cultural legacy & industrial roots of the Carnegie family.

The city’s epicentre, the “Golden Triangle” lies at the junction of Allegheny and Monongahela Rivers. At the tip of the triangle is Point State Park, which houses the largest fountain in the state.

Step back in time and try some of Warhol’s art techniques at the Andy Warhol Museum . I would recommend exploring the contemporary arts at the Carnegie Museum of Art .

A gift to the city, the Phipps Conservatory is home to an exotic public garden and stunning Victorian-style greenhouses. I would also suggest riding on the antique cable car on the Duquesne Incline and enjoying the spectacular panorama of the city!

  • Address: Pittsburgh, PA 15219
  • Best Time to Visit: All seasons except winter are the best.

My favorite highlights…

  • Exploring the vibrant and hipster-friendly Strip District with many trendy bars, clubs and resturants.

8. Ricketts Glen State Park

Ricketts Glen State Park

Once an abode to the Native Americans, the Ricketts Glen State Park today is one of the most scenic parks in the state. Nestled in the Luzerne, Sullivan, and Columbia counties, the Ricketts Glen State Park covers 13,050 acres of land.

With wild, free-flowing waterfalls cascading the ancient hills, the Ganoga Falls is the highest among the 22 named waterfalls.

Swim, hike, picnic, or go biking, the state park offers all recreational activities for visitors and I would highly recommend getting involved with as many as possible!

  • Address: River Rd, Delaware Water Gap, PA 18302
  • Best Time to Visit: All three seasons except the winter season.
  • Hiking the Mount Trammy/Minsy loop and McDade Recreational trail.
  • Going kayaking on the lake.

9. Delaware Water Gap

Delaware water gap pennsylvania

The Delaware Water Gap is America’s most popular vacation destination, surrounded by lush forests, beautiful lakes, and rugged mountains.

One of the most stunning areas of the Pocono Mountains, the middle section of the Delaware River or the Delaware Water Gap runs across the Pennsylvania-New Jersey border.

The Delaware Water Gap is located in Monroe County and runs between the high bluffs, forested shores, and rhododendron ravines. The Middle Delaware National Scenic and Recreational River is a boon for canoeists, kayakers, rafters, and scenic seekers.

  •   Address: Pocono Mountains, PA 18360
  • Best Time to Visit: ideal for all seasons.
  • Visiting the fascinating The Historic Castle Inn .
  • Visiting the fun Camelbeach Mountain waterpark.

10. The Poconos

A beloved destination for vacationers seeking to relax, the Pocono Mountains are known for their natural scenic beauty and quaint historic towns.

The Northeastern Pennsylvanian Mountains have been alluring visitors for generations.

The 2,400 sq. mile area of the Poconos is easily accessible within two hours from the nearby metropolitan cities. A famous ski destination, the Poconos offer year-round camping, trail rides, and hiking experiences in the lap of nature for nature lovers and peace seekers.

Step into the enchanted mountain slopes, clear lakes, flower-covered valleys, and varied landscapes for exciting outdoor adventures!

  • Address: Pocono Mountains, PA 18360
  • Hiking to see the scenic Bushkill Falls.
  • Dining at Nick’s Lake House Restaurant, which has lovely lake views.

11. Hickory Run State Park

Hickory Run State Park

One of the largest state parks, the Hickory Run State Park, is in the Carbon County of the Pocono Mountains.

With more than 40 miles of hiking trails, natural streams, state park natural areas, and blooming rhododendrons, the Hickory Run State Park covers 15,990 acres of a vast landscape.

Walk along the striking boulder-strewn area of the Boulder Field, witness the beautiful Hawk Falls or Hike the Fireline Trail to catch a stunning view of the Lehigh Gorge; in my opinion, Hickory Run provides amazing recreational opportunities!

  • Address: 3613 PA-534, White Haven, PA 18661
  • Best Time to Visit: Late Spring to early fall season.
  • Hiking the 6-mile  Hawk Falls trail leads to a beautiful waterfall.
  • Photographing the incredible boulders.

One of Pennsylvania’s largest State Natural Areas, the Pine Creek Gorge is a part of the Tioga State Forest. The gorge begins near the quaint town of Wellsboro near Ansonia.

The Leonard Harrison Park & the Colton Point State Park are opposite the Pine Creek Gorge.

The scenic waterfalls, rolling mountains, deep deciduous forests, and wild water provide gorgeous scenery of the Pine Creek Gorge every season.

Hike along the converted railroad bed of the Pine Creek Rail Trail or watch the sunsets at Colton Point and Leonard Harrison. A trip to the Pine Creek Gorge is full of adventures and fun.

  • Address: Pine Creek Gorge, Watson Township, PA 17740
  • Best Time to Visit: Spring to Fall.
  • Trying to spot eagles (watch out for the black bears that also roam here).

Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area

An exceptional Bird Area recognized globally, the Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area is between the Lebanon-Lancaster County line of Pennsylvania.

A special tract of landscape protecting and preserving the unique wildlife, the Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area covers 5,000 acres of land with shallow-water lakes and oak woodlands.

Witness and photograph the beautiful flocks of migratory Tundra Swans and Snow Geese in their natural habitat. The lake and surrounding marshy lands are the nesting sites of forest and farmland wildlife.

  • Address: 100 Museum Rd, Stevens, PA 17578
  • Best Time to Visit: late winter to early spring (February to March).
  • Watching the geese migrating at the start of the winter season.
  • Hiking the Willow Point Trail, graded easy and took me past gorgeous scenery.

14. Lake Wallenpaupack

Lake Wallenpaupack

Wallenpaupack or the ‘stream of swift and slow water’ is the second-largest lake in the Pike & Wayne Counties.

Covering 5,700 acres of land with 13 miles of uninterrupted shorelines, this man-made lake is an ideal retreat for friends and family.

Play the day away in the stunning recreation area with sweeping forest lands, wildlife, scenic hiking trails, and campsites. I would also recommend indulging in water skiing, jet skiing, or kayaking; there are scores of things to do in the charming Lake Wallenpaupack!

Cook Forest State Park Pennsylvania

Often referred to as the ‘black forest of Pennsylvania’, the Cook Forest State Park covers 11,536 acres in northwestern Pennsylvania.

Bordered by the Clarion River, the scenic 13-mile stretch connects Cook Forests with the Clear Creek State Park .

Renowned for the virgin white pine and hemlock timber stands, this National Natural Landmark is home to some of the oldest trees east of the Rockies.

I suggest climbing a fire tower, exploring the Henry Run Sawmill Dam Falls, or hiking the Paved Trail. The Cook Forest offers a beautiful area in which to enjoy life’s peacefulness and simple things.

  • Address: Cooksburg, PA 16217
  •   Best Time to Visit: Late spring to Fall.

  • Pennsylvania's 10 Most Underrated Towns to visit in 2024

While famous destinations like Pittsburgh and Philadelphia draw millions of visitors annually with their bustling cityscapes, world-class museums, and major sports teams, some of Pennsylvania 's most charming small towns often get overlooked. Offering a slow pace of life and lush natural surroundings, they present the ideal setting to escape the urban chaos and commotion, serving as a relaxed retreat from city life. If you plan to tour the Keystone State soon, 2024 seems the right time to detour off the major highways.

From historic river towns dating back to the 1800s to quaint villages nestled in the tranquil mountains, Pennsylvania is home to scenic hamlets begging to be discovered. Whether you want to take in beautiful natural scenery, learn about local history, or simply slow down and experience a slower pace, these underrated small towns in Pennsylvania are primed for a visit this year.

Liberty Street, Franklin, Pennsylvania.

This adorable small town in northwest Pennsylvania delights with a rich history and a thriving arts and culture scene. Its colorful past is evident in the Victorian-era architecture dominating the downtown skyline, best embodied by St. John’s Episcopal Church. The 19th-century basilica draws admirers with its imposing façade, who hardly get to put down their cameras. Among Franklin’s top points of interest is DeBence Antique Music World, an interesting museum housing over 100 antique musical instruments, including band organs, music boxes, pianos, and more.

Franklin’s bustling arts landscape gives connoisseurs something to look forward to. The downtown harbors venues like the Barrow-Civic Theatre and the Franklin Fine Arts Council, offering a selection of performances and art exhibits. But for a more immersive experience, you can schedule your visit to coincide with the exciting Applefest Festival in October.

A Victorian mansion in Titusville, Pennsylvania

Considered the birthplace of America's petroleum industry, Titusville was home to the world's first commercial oil well. Today, tourists visit the town to witness how the lucrative oil industry began at the Drake Well Museum & Park, which chronicles the history of the petroleum trade in America through a collection of exhibits, including artifacts, films, and old oil machinery. Titusville also celebrates the legacy of famous investigative journalist Ida Minerva Tarbell, a longtime town resident in the 19th century. Her former family home currently serves as a museum, the Tarbell House.

Nature lovers will be drawn to the atmosphere of the area's oldest community park, Burgess Park. The green space is a popular recreation hub, providing amenities like picnic shelters, a playground, a skate park, a splash pad, and a sledding hill.

Emmaus Theatre vintage sign, Emmaus, Pennsylvania

A mix of captivating historical landmarks, numerous outdoor opportunities, and a world-class brewery scene makes Emmaus an enticing prospect for tourists in Pennsylvania. Located in the lush Lehigh Valley, this tiny community is dotted with lovely nature spaces, led by the over 300-acre Wildlands Conservancy's South Mountain Preserve.
