PGA TOUR, ESPN+ Announce Details of Expanded and Extended Coverage Beginning in January

Photo of Kevin Ota

  • PGA TOUR LIVE on ESPN+ set to launch January 2022
  • Four new streaming feeds more than triples live coverage to more than 4,300 exclusive hours

ESPN+ and PGA TOUR announced details for the inaugural season of PGA TOUR LIVE on ESPN+ , with extended and expanded coverage that more than triples the total coverage – adding more than 3,200 new hours of live streaming available for a total of more than 4,300 exclusive hours. All PGA TOUR LIVE on ESPN+ coverage will be available to ESPN+’s more than 17.1 million subscribers.

In 2022, PGA TOUR LIVE on ESPN+ will include live coverage of 35 tournaments – from the TOUR’s Hawaii events in January all the way through the FedExCup Playoffs and into the fall – with at least 28 events having four full days of coverage and four simultaneous live feeds each day.

“The start of the PGA TOUR in 2022 will tee off a new and exciting opportunity for fans to watch the best golfers in the world,” said Burke Magnus, President, Programming and Original Entertainment, ESPN. “The new and expanded PGA TOUR LIVE on ESPN+ is an incredible offering for golf fans – with more than three times the coverage from last season, while also bringing them access to thousands of other sporting events and original programming, all for $6.99 per month.”

With the launch of PGA TOUR LIVE on ESPN+ comes new streaming feeds that will bring expanded coverage of events totaling more than 4,300 exclusive hours. Beginning with The American Express (January 20-23, 2022), PGA TOUR LIVE on ESPN+ will offer fans four live feeds for each tournament:

  • Main Feed : primary tournament-coverage featuring the best action from across the course;
  • Marquee Group : new “marquee group” showcasing every shot from each player in the group;
  • Featured Groups : traditional PGA TOUR LIVE coverage of two concurrent featured groups;
  • Featured Holes : a combination of par-3s and iconic or pivotal holes.

When network television coverage begins, the four streams will pivot to two featured groups and two featured holes so fans can continue to engage with PGA TOUR LIVE on ESPN+ in addition to the telecast.

Rick Anderson, Chief Media Officer, PGA TOUR said, “The PGA TOUR couldn’t be more excited to launch a new era in content delivery with Disney and ESPN+, which will greatly expand and diversify our audience reach. There will be more content available to our fans than ever before with an exciting and diverse group of on-air talent delivering the action.”

This expanded, unprecedented coverage, with over-the-top (OTT) streaming and emerging technologies moving to ESPN+, is part of the TOUR’s new nine-year domestic media rights portfolio announced in March 2020 .

The weekly production crew behind PGA TOUR LIVE on ESPN+ will increase from approximately 85 people to more than 210, with 16 cameras on the course, and a 15-person talent crew calling the action across the four channels. The expanded talent roster is still being finalized and will include current studio hosts John Swantek, Jonathan Coachman, Lisa Cornwell and Ned Michaels and on-course analysts Christina Kim, Karen Stupples, Mark Immelman, Chantel McCabe, Mark Wilson, Stuart Appleby and Michael Collins.

“We are excited about the growth of PGA TOUR LIVE and the opportunity to reach a larger audience on ESPN+,” said PGA TOUR Vice President and Executive Producer Greg Hopfe. “Four separately produced streams will showcase more action than ever before from top players and fan-favorite holes at each tournament. We look forward to being able to share nearly every shot from golf fans’ favorite players on ESPN+.”

PGA TOUR LIVE on ESPN+ will cover both early January Hawaii events – Sentry Tournament of Champions and Sony Open in Hawaii – for the first time with Featured Groups coverage in the mornings, followed by Featured Holes in the afternoons.

The complete four feed PGA TOUR LIVE on ESPN+ offering will begin at The American Express.

PGA TOUR LIVE originally launched in 2015. ESPN+, launched in 2018, has grown to reach 17.1 million subscribers. The combined PGA TOUR LIVE on ESPN+ will provide significant growth opportunities for PGA TOUR content via ESPN+’s digital reach, innovative platform and young and diverse audiences.

PGA TOUR LIVE will be part of any ESPN+ subscription, at no additional cost, alongside more than 15,000 other live sporting events, acclaimed studio programs, original series and documentaries and a library of other on demand programming.

Golf programming on ESPN+ also includes The Masters (115 hours of live coverage, plus 50 hours of The Masters Films from 1960-2020), The PGA Championship (200 hours of live coverage, plus 30 hours of library and classic programming), as well as the original series America’s Caddie with Michael Collins, which will return in 2022 with new episodes throughout the PGA TOUR season.

ESPN+ is available through the ESPN App (mobile and connected devices), ESPN.com or ESPNplus.com for just $6.99/month or $69.99/year. It is also part of The Disney Bundle, a one-stop streaming subscription offer that gives customers access to Disney+, Hulu and ESPN+ for $13.99/month.

The PGA Tour airs across CBS , NBC , Golf Channel, ESPN , and USA Network. During most tournaments, you can also watch multi-feed coverage on ESPN+ .

All events that air on NBC and Golf Channel stream on Peacock , while Paramount+ with SHOWTIME offers live CBS streaming.

Pro tip: Overflow channels like CNBC and ESPN2 occasionally air PGA Tour coverage when weather delays push tee times outside the main broadcast windows. CBS Sports Network is another supplemental channel to consider for its encore coverage and classic PGA Tour programming.

2024 PGA Tour schedule

It can be challenging to follow the PGA Tour due to its sheer number of events. To help you stay up-to-date on the latest action, we organized the 2024 PGA Tour schedule in the table below—featuring channel listings for each tournament’s opening and closing rounds.

  • Every PGA Tour channel
  • Unlimited cloud DVR
  • ESPN+ and Disney+ included
  • Small sports channel lineup
  • Only two simultaneous streams allowed

Hulu + Live TV is the best TV service for watching the PGA Tour because it has every tour channel and a user-friendly design. Starting at $76.99 a month, Hulu + Live TV also includes ESPN+ at no extra cost—meaning you can watch expanded PGA Tour Live content within the Hulu app. No other TV service offers that much PGA Tour coverage in one place.

Another advantage of Hulu + Live TV is its intuitive interface, which makes finding and watching golf a breeze. The platform offers a personalized guide that displays upcoming and current events, so you can easily navigate to the PGA Tour coverage you want. Additionally, Hulu + Live TV offers unlimited cloud DVR storage—allowing you to watch golf on your schedule.

TV fans, in general, will appreciate Hulu + Live TV for its well-balanced channel lineup. Not only are there key channels for watching sports, but there are also several important entertainment and news networks. You’ll also have access to The CW , which shows LIV Golf League tournaments.

Exclusive PGA Tour Live content: ESPN+

  • 35+ PGA Tour tournaments
  • Multiple video feeds
  • Inexpensive pricing
  • No traditional ESPN networks included
  • Limited LPGA coverage

You may already have access to a TV provider with the main PGA Tour channels. If so, you can still level up your golf coverage with a standalone ESPN+ subscription.

At only $10.99 a month, ESPN+ carries over 35 PGA Tour events each year through its PGA Tour Live programming. Every tournament covered on ESPN+ comes with four unique live feeds—giving you featured holes and groups for a well-rounded viewing experience.

Beyond live coverage, ESPN+ comes with on-demand replays and original series like America’s Caddie . You’ll also have access to many major league sports and college athletics. But most men’s and women’s college golf appears on Golf Channel and Peacock.

Live NBC Sports coverage: Peacock

  • Every live PGA Tour broadcast from NBC and Golf Channel
  • GolfPass content included
  • No live PGA Tour content from USA Network
  • Limited original content

Like ESPN+, Peacock is an inexpensive way to watch many PGA Tour events. It doesn’t have the featured video feeds found on ESPN+, but every minute of the PGA Tour that airs on NBC and Golf Channel also streams on Peacock. That’s more than 450 hours of annual coverage for as low as $5.99 a month—a golf-clap-worthy deal.

Peacock is also home to many golf-centric series and documentaries—much more than any other streaming service. Its 24/7 GolfPass channel is especially fun to watch when tournaments aren’t happening. Launched in partnership with Rory McIlroy in 2021, the channel shows instructional videos, travel guides, and original series featuring top golfers and celebrities.

Unfortunately, live golf airing on USA Network doesn’t stream on Peacock. And viewers with access to NBC and Golf Channel may feel like Peacock is unnecessary. But some studio coverage, LPGA tournaments, and college golf competitions stream exclusively on Peacock. It’s also the home to every minute of the Summer Olympics —which, since 2016, involves both men’s and women’s golf.

Pro tip: GolfPass offers a subscription service for golf enthusiasts looking to improve their skills out on the course. While it’s less about watching golf and more about playing golf, new GolfPass members get 12 months of Peacock Premium for free.

Cheapest: OTA Antenna

*CableTV.com utilizes paid Amazon links. Amazon.com Price; $47.99 (as of 4/14/23 9:45 a.m. CT). Read full disclaimer .

  • Local TV coverage
  • Low, one-time price
  • No monthly charges
  • No DVR included
  • No technical support

An over-the-air (OTA) antenna is the cheapest way to watch the PGA Tour because it allows you to access local broadcast channels for free. Possible antenna channels include CBS and NBC , which air some of the most crucial stages of the PGA Tour.

To verify the antenna channels in your area, enter your address on the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) Reception Map . The tool will display every channel available in your city and the corresponding tower distance—helping you determine the required antenna range.

If you’re new to the antenna game, the Mohu Leaf 50  is an excellent option for suburbanites. Its 60-mile range should allow most users to pick up CBS and NBC. But we recommend visiting our Best OTA Antennas page to browse more antenna options.

How to watch the PGA Tour for free

To watch the PGA Tour for free, try using an OTA antenna to pick up CBS and NBC stations in your area. You can also take advantage of free trial offers from live TV streaming services or catch select coverage through event websites and social media channels. For instance, you can watch the Masters Tournament free on Masters.com and the Masters app.

Another fun way to watch free PGA Tour coverage is through Pluto TV . The streaming service includes a 24/7 PGA Tour channel that shows clips and highlights from past events.

What channel is the Cognizant Classic on today? Time, TV schedule for PGA Tour golf

pga tour golf broadcast

If the calendar is turning to March, it must mean it's time for PGA Tour golf in Florida. And after The Match and pro-am got things started, some of golf's best players will be at PGA National this weekend for the Honda Classic ... er, for the Cognizant Classic .

Yes, the tournament has a new name, but it's still the same showcase for "The Bear Trap." Rory McIlroy leads a strong group that includes 19 of the top 50 golfers in the world rankings. Chris Kirk is back to defend his 2023 Honda Classic title, as are UF alum Billy Horschel and Jupiter resident Rickie Fowler. Also in the Cognizant Classic field are former U.S. Open champs (Justin Rose, Gary Woodland and Matthew Fitzpatrick ), 2019 British Open champ Shane Lowry and U.S. Ryder Cup captain Zach Johnson.

Be sure to keep an eye on the celebrity group in the event, which includes Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and "The Bachelor" alum Tyler Cameron . Sadly, there will be no Tiger Woods, or even Charlie Woods .

Talking Anthony Kim, PGA Tour winners and NBC’s big broadcast experiment

Wildcard player Anthony Kim smiles during the practice round before the start of LIV Golf Jeddah at the Royal Greens Golf & Country Club on Wednesday, February 28, 2024 in King Abdullah Economic City, Saudi Arabia. (Photo by Jon Ferrey/LIV Golf via AP)

Perhaps the biggest story in sports this week is the issue of court-storming, a problem that can be resolved if colleges would just commit to giving their security personnel the same sort of training and leeway the Canadian Open gives its black shirts .

On to golf, with senior managing editor Hugh Kellenberger and staff writer Brody Miller discussing the latest on the PGA Tour and LIV.

Hugh Kellenberger: Anthony Kim makes his return to professional golf this week, joining up with LIV Golf for its event in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. It’s been 12 long years since we’ve seen Kim, which is an unheard-of amount of time taken off to then return to this level. There are 11 more events on the 2024 LIV schedule, Brody — how many top 10s does Kim record?

Brody Miller: Man, I don’t know. And I don’t care, purely from the perspective of I don’t think — or, at least, I don’t hope — anybody is excited about this because they are committed to his being a great golfer again. It’s an incredibly interesting story, one I can’t wait to dive into more. I don’t agree with the full-on eye rolls from some people about Kim’s return. Because this is fascinating. He said in a video released Wednesday that he’ll eventually tell his story of what the last 12 years have been like. I can’t wait to learn.

But yeah, those eye rolls some are giving are understandably from the perspective that Kim is a 38-year-old who, as much as this stinks to say, had one very good year as a professional golfer. I hope nobody makes this about his results. But I’ll say he has one or two really good weeks when he’ll make the top 10.

How do you view this whole thing?

Hugh: I was not sure what to make of it until I saw the first video of him on the range in Vans, a “Girl Dad” T-shirt and baggy gym shorts. This is full-on muni dirtbag vibes, the guy you see at the end of the range late on Monday afternoons just working his whole weathered bag and striping it. I’m all in on the hard turn away from Kim’s younger fashion sense and his just showing up and being a totally normal dude who can somehow still play with these guys. Now, can he actually do that? Eh, I’m not so sure. But LIV events are 54 holes and feature smaller fields, allowing for some randomness in the results. I can see Kim pulling off one top 10.

Back on the PGA Tour, attention turns to this week’s Cognizant Classic, where the tour has to be hoping one of the big names in the field — Rory McIlroy, Matt Fitzpatrick and Rickie Fowler among them — takes home the trophy Sunday. The trend of first- and second-time winners has been the dominant early storyline, Brody. So I ask you this:

Of Grayson Murray, Nick Dunlap, Matthieu Pavon and Jake Knapp, who wins again first?

Brody: Maybe I’m just a nerd, but this is a fun question. Because how do you want to look at it? Pavon is probably the best golfer at the moment, so he’s the right pick. Knapp is probably the “hottest” (yeah, you can take that multiple ways), and there’s nothing fluky about his past 12 months. He’s becoming a really good golfer. And Dunlap will almost certainly be the best when it’s all said and done, but realistically, he’s going to have a lot of growing pains this year.

For the sake of fun, I say Knapp.

I’ll throw the same question back at you and add another one: Which of the “stars” will be the first to get back in the winner’s circle?

Hugh: So, it’s probably Dunlap, even though he has missed both cuts since his win at The American Express (he has never made a pro cut outside of that one week, which is wild). But the overall resume is too strong to suggest he won’t find a way back into doing the greenside interview on 18 on Sunday, though if it’s 2025 or even 2026, I can buy that.

We have two consecutive events after this with top-level fields: the signature Arnold Palmer Invitational and then the Players Championship. Chances are a star will win one of them, right? I’ll go with Scottie Scheffler. He has won both events previously, and even with the state of his putter, he has enough tee to green to put himself in contention. You?

Brody: The answer is Scheffler. No matter how much we talk about his putting poorly, he’s still top 10 every week. And as you said, these are two events he has won. But for the sake of being different, I’m going with McIlroy. He’s playing this week in Palm Beach, Fla., so he’ll be the heavy favorite there, and it means he’ll be in form for Bay Hill and the Players. But also, he has always done well in Florida. He has won all three of these events and finished tied for second last year at Bay Hill. It would be great timing with Season 2 of “Full Swing” releasing next week, with McIlroy featured heavily.

pga tour golf broadcast

Hugh: Before we go, let’s talk about TV coverage. More specifically, NBC. Luke Donald, still basking in the glow of Europe’s Ryder Cup win, will be in the booth this weekend, joining Kevin Kisner, Brandel Chamblee and Bones Mackay as those who have been in that chair already this year.

I have to tell you, Brody, I’m all in on this rotating assignment. I’ve appreciated Kisner’s insight into all the guys on tour and his intimate knowledge of their games. Mackay does a nice job of explaining decisions and talking through a round. Chamblee was good when explaining why Dunlap’s win was such a big deal. I want to see what Donald brings to the booth, and I like how no one is having a chance to get stale on us so quickly (also known as the Tony Romo Experience). Where are you here?

Brody: Completely agree, for so many reasons. One, for a network that has been dunked on as much as NBC has for its golf coverage, I just want to see it try stuff. Take risks. Get weird. Be interesting. And though I doubt this was all part of some long plan, it’s working. For starters, it means more chances to see who has the stuff. I never would have guessed Kisner would be that good, and now I want him every week. But the same goes for everyone you said. Donald is so likable, and I bet he kills it, too.

You’re nailing the point about avoiding fatigue. Too much exposure makes us get sick of almost anyone, especially in a sport like golf where it’s hours and hours of essentially hanging out. Trevor Immelman is a huge hit right now for CBS. Eventually, we’ll probably get sick of him, too. But even more than avoiding fatigue with each person, it means each broadcast has a fresh perspective, as you touched on. Dynamism is good. Keep things flowing and growing.

Sure, NBC wants this all to end with its perfect voice of the future. And at this point, I trust it’ll have fantastic options. But the mere fact I’m thinking, “Yeah, I’m looking forward to hearing how Donald does” is a win. Stay interesting while you can.

Exclusive: An inside look at broadcasting the PGA Championship

Broadcasting golf has its unique caveats and challenges as something is always happening out on the course, as was the case at the 105th PGA Championship.

THE PLAYERS Championship, pga championship

When sitting at home and watching golf, you do not realize how much goes into the broadcast from behind the scenes.

Golf broadcasting is organized chaos, especially at major championships.

Last week, at the PGA Championship at Oak Hill , roughly 50 massive television trucks comprised the broadcast compound adjacent to the 17th hole.

Hundreds of producers, directors, cameramen, and runners from all over the world flew into Rochester to help make broadcasts run smoothly in each of those trucks.

The compound also included the announcer booths for the world feed, Sky Sports, the French broadcast, and others, making it one of the busiest places on the golf course.

Plus, golf carts are always passing through—constantly departing or arriving—depending on where the ESPN, CBS, and Golf Channel announcers and camera crews need to go out on the course.

pga tour golf broadcast

Construction of the compound began months ago. Workers began to build some of the bigger structures, like the catering tent, back in November in the hopes of avoiding some of the harsh Western New York winters.

The television trucks arrived a week before the Championship, when the work for many broadcasters first began.

In the days leading up to the first round, producers, announcers, and statisticians all work to build graphics, features, and layouts.

For instance, Wright Thompson, a brilliant writer and essayist for ESPN, did a feature on Rochester’s famous garbage plates . This story was put together well before it aired on ESPN’s telecast Thursday evening—it took weeks to plan.

Of course, the most important day of the week for the golf broadcast is Wednesday, when final meetings take place, tests occur, and rundowns are finalized.

The PGA of America hosts one of these important meetings. They invited all producers, directors, and announcers on Wednesday morning to a Zoom call.

During that meeting, Kerry Haigh, the Chief Championships Officer for the PGA of America, discussed everything about the golf course: from the rough length to the bunkering to even the threat of a frost, which subsequently followed the next morning.

He provided insight into local rules, noted that the 7th fairway would serve as internal out-of-bounds for those playing the 6th hole, and even revealed the three playoff holes if the Championship ended in a tie after 72 holes.

From that, producers and broadcasters alike incorporated the information Haigh provided into their notes, graphics, and rundowns.

The following day, the magic begins.

Rehearsals, mic checks, and camera checks happen minutes before the broadcast goes on air.

Once live, the producers and directors have to keep an eye on all the golfers on the course—which for the PGA Championship, meant covering 156 golfers.

Of course, the PGA of America splits that number of 156 into two waves: half in the morning and a half in the afternoon during the first two rounds.

Nonetheless, the producers and directors must watch every camera— behind all 18 greens and all 18 tee boxes—to ensure they do not miss a critical moment.

If they do, assistant producers in tape record each shot so the producer can direct the action back to that shot whenever.

No better example occurred late Thursday afternoon when Tom Kim fell into Allen’s Creek .

2023 PGA Championship - Round One

Kim slipped into the swamp, leaving his entire wardrobe drenched in mud. The camera crew caught all of this but decided not to show this live.

Over twenty minutes passed before ESPN aired Kim’s trip to the creek, opting to show the incident leading into the commercial break.

Plus, the producers wanted to put together all the camera shots they could to create a proper visual for the viewers at home.

They accomplished this masterfully, as Kim’s moment immediately went viral .

Two days later, when torrential downpours blitzed Oak Hill’s lush fairways and greens, CBS lead producer Sellers Shy prioritized showing how the rain affected the golf course.

They kept airing golfers who turned their hats backward, as the players wanted to keep the rain from dripping down off the brim of their caps and into their faces as they played.

Shy would also direct his cameramen to show shots of the rain, golfers playing through the elements, and fans trying to stay dry.

pga tour golf broadcast

The next day, the course had dried up, and the Wanamaker Trophy was on the line.

Brooks Koepka entered the day with a one-shot lead over Viktor Hovland and Corey Conners.

Scottie Scheffler, Bryson DeChambeau, Rory McIlroy, and Michael Block trailed not too far behind.

On major championship Sundays, the broadcast prioritizes showing each contender’s opening tee shot.

Block and McIlroy received huge ovations on the first tee as fans swarmed this fourth-to-last pairing.

But once everyone was out on the course, CBS focused on the final group of Koepka and Hovland.

It is a tricky balance to squeeze in as much golf as possible, especially with a major on the line. Oh, and CBS has 24 commercial breaks—four per hour—to squeeze in during their six-hour telecast.

When Koepka struggled on the 6th and 7th holes, CBS failed to air Scheffler dropping a shot ahead on the ninth hole.

Fans only noticed Scheffler’s bogey when the little score bug in the lower right corner indicated that Scheffler—now the number one player in the world—slid from 4-under to 3-under.

The network also shied away from showing Conners, who struggled a little bit down the stretch.

Fans also grew agitated because Block did not receive much air-time—until he had the moment of the year .

So when Block made his spectacular hole-in-one, CBS was actually in a commercial. They did not cut to the 15th hole until about five minutes after it happened live.

ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED??? pic.twitter.com/opWFzahJCJ — Playing Through (@_PlayingThrough) May 21, 2023

Immediately after that, Block was the story—CBS showed each of his shots, including his miraculous up-and-down on 18, but in doing so, they missed a ton of golf ahead and behind the marquee McIlroy-Block pairing.

That’s why golf broadcasting is so tricky.

You are bound to miss something, especially given that there are so many players on the course, so many holes to cover, and commercial breaks to consider.

Plus, CBS prides itself on interviewing key players—these help fans understand the player’s perspectives and how the course played.

Those, too, take up time.

Understandably, golf fans want to see as many shots as possible, but viewers need to understand the inner workings of a broadcast.

Broadcasting golf is like juggling: multiple balls are in the air, and you must keep them afloat.

Yet, the broadcast becomes much easier to handle when coming down the stretch at a major.

Fewer groups on the course, fewer commercials, and fewer holes to cover make things run much smoother.

Hence the prolonged coverage of Hovland’s troubles at the 16th hole, where he plugged his second shot into the lip of the bunker, which effectively handed the Wanamaker to Koepka.

Yet, CBS suffered a 15-year low with their numbers, which is inexplicable considering the marquee players involved and Block’s viral moment.

Nonetheless, consider everything happening at the course next time you watch a golf tournament. Golf broadcasting defines the mantra that you cannot be in two places at once. Yet, a golf telecast aims to show everything, even when some things slip through the cracks.

Yes, this Tour pro 6-putted (!) a hole in shocking meltdown: WATCH

Thomas Detry, left, and Stephan Jaeger on Friday on the 6th green at PGA National.

Golf Channel

Oh no.

Six no’s in all. For the six putts Thomas Detry hit Friday on the 6th green on the Champion Course at PGA National Resort, with five coming from less than 6 feet away. If you’re a golfer, you feel — all the feelings? There are mixed emotions, for sure. Pain? Yes, we don’t wish these kinds of things on anyone. Joy? You don’t want to admit it — don’t worry, we won’t tell anyone — but yeah, there’s that odd sensation that develops when someone as otherworldly talented like Detry, a pro golfer for eight years, stumbles around a green like a 25-handicap.

Maybe it’s just sympathy then, along the lines of this:

Hey, we’ve all been there, man.

And Detry was most certainly there during the Cognizant Classic’s second round, where:

— On the 461-yard, par-4 6th, he hit his second shot, from 162 yards out, to about 50 feet. He then hit putt one, his birdie attempt, to 5 feet, 10 inches, according to the PGA Tour’s online leaderboard .

— Detry hit putt two, his par attempt, to the left of the hole, and it finished about three away. Here, Golf Channel cameras were recording.

“Now keep watching here and see what happens,” announcer Steve Sands said on the broadcast. “This is a concentration issue? A four-over-par-late-on-a-Friday issue?”

Six putts on the sixth hole: After lagging his first putt to 6 feet, Thomas Detry took five more swipes. pic.twitter.com/WDcsIdcJy3 — Golf Central (@GolfCentral) March 1, 2024

— Detry took five steps to the right of the hole, stood just on his right foot and hit putt three, his bogey attempt. It lipped out on the right side of the cup and finished about a foot away.

— Detry then took three steps to the left, stood just on his right foot again and hit putt four, his double-bogey try. It lipped out to the right and finished about five feet away.

“Oh no,” said analyst and putting savante Brad Faxon on the broadcast.

— Detry then took five steps to the left, and with his right foot ahead of his left, he hit putt five, his triple-bogey attempt. It lipped out to the left and finished about 3 feet away.

“That’s not concentration,” Faxon said on the broadcast. “That’s a get-me-out-of-here.”

— Finally, Detry took two steps to the right and, standing just on his right foot again, made the putt, his sixth on the green. It gave him a quadruple-bogey eight, with six of the strokes coming on the green. From there, Detry grabbed the ball from the hole with his right hand, took three steps away from the cup — and underhand-tossed the ball into the water to the left of the green. He then took a few more steps and handed his putter to his caddie.

Whew.

There are a few more things to note.

How about the reaction of his playing partners? As Detry putted, Stephan Jaeger stood seemingly emotionless. Michael Kim, meanwhile, revealed later on Twitter that he’d been keeping Detry’s score — and he added this:

“I asked his caddy Lee what his score was on the next hole since I was keeping Thomas’s score and Lee responds “it was an 8… I think”

Also, when’s the last time a PGA Tour pro has six-putted? According to golf-stats guru Justin Ray (who you can follow on Twitter here ), Detry’s effort was the first since Danny Lee’s crusade during the third round of the 2020 U.S. Open at Winged Foot.

That one had a similar vibe . If you don’t recall, have a look below , if you’re into that sort of thing.

How to watch every memorable moment of the 2023 pga championship on tv or streaming live online.

pga-championship-flag-oak-hill-2023-g.png

The 2023 PGA Championship reaches a dramatic conclusion Sunday at Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, New York, as the final round of competition features some of the best in the game going at it for the last set of 18 holes this week. The second major championship of the year has reached a fever pitch with a stacked leaderboard featuring big-time names like Brooks Koepka, Viktor Hovland, Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy. Follow PGA Championship live leaderboard updates throughout the day.

While this year's 105th affair has been thoroughly exciting, it has not been as smooth as organizers would have hoped with inclement weather affecting the first 54 holes. However, the weather has cleared up for Sunday's final round, and that's surely good news for those near the top of the leaderboard seeking to capture the Wanamaker Trophy.

Koepka, the 54-hole leader, has only continued to go low with his round underway Sunday. Hovland has followed suit to create what, at least in the early going, looks like a two-man battle down the stretch at Oak Hill. McIlroy made a play with a birdie on his first but has since fallen back, as has Scheffler, who clearly does not have his best stuff this week.

While attending the PGA Championship can be a ton of fun, simply being able to watch golf on the game's grandest stages is an incredible treat each year. We here at CBS Sports are thrilled to bring you wall-to-wall coverage of the PGA Championship throughout this week with action streaming live all weekend.

CBS Sports golf anchor Jim Nantz is calling the weekend action for the 33rd consecutive year while hosting coverage from the super tower alongside lead analyst Trevor Immelman. Also at Oak Hill for CBS Sports are Ian Baker-Finch, Frank Nobilo, Dottie Pepper, Colt Knost and Mark Immelman with Amanda Renner reporting and conducting interviews.

The 105th PGA Championship is the 33rd consecutive (and 40th overall) broadcast by CBS Sports, which this year will deploy roughly 120 cameras and 150 microphones throughout the course to capture all the sights and sounds. Live drone coverage, over a dozen robotic cameras (including a 360-degree, 4K camera), fly cam and augmented reality technology, Toptracer, SwingVision and more will be used to enhance coverage of the year's second major. (Also keep your eyes and ears open for a new PGA Championship graphics package and theme music.)

Enough talking about it. Here's how you can watch as much PGA Championship as possible on Sunday. Be sure to  download the CBS Sports App  to watch the PGA Championship live on your mobile device.
