National University of Singapore

The National University of Singapore (NUS) is the country’s flagship university and a top global educational institution in Asia.

It has consistently been featured on many lists of the world’s best schools and is currently ranked as 11 on the QS Global World Ranking.

National University of Singapore (NUS), Buildings, Attractions Hours & Map

The school is best known for its global approach to research and education, combined with a focus on Asian expertise and perspectives. There are 17 faculties and departments across three campuses; utilising a broad curriculum, cross-faculty enrichment, and multi-disciplinary courses.

The departments include Arts and Social Sciences, Business, Computing, Continuing and Lifelong Education, Dentistry, Design and Environment, Duke-NUS Medical School, Engineering, Integrative Sciences and Engineering, Law, Medicine, Music, Public Health, Public Policy, Science, the University Scholars Programme, and the Yale-NUS College.

The multi-disciplinary and integrated approach means that students are encouraged to work with government, academia, and industry to find solutions that Asian countries are experiencing. Students have been known to successfully tackle complex issues beyond the region, particularly in energy, urban and environmental sustainability, disease prevention and treatment, risk management, and much more.

The National University of Singapore also regularly invites prominent thought leaders in various fields into campus to share thoughts and engage in discourse with students.

NUS is also home to many popular museums and cultural venues; which include the:

  • NUS Museum : A university museum with over 8,000 exhibits; from classical & contemporary Asian art to sculpture
  • Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum : A modern, green museum with many preserved plant & animal specimens; including three dinosaur skeletons.
  • University Cultural Centre : A high-grade, flexible performance venue nestled in the grounds of a premier university
  • Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music : Asia’s most exciting international conservatory and one of the world’s most distinctive

West & Southwest Singapore

Located on the verdant campus of the National University of Singapore (NUS), this museum is one of the city's lesser-known cultural delights. Ancient Chinese ceramics and bronzes, as well as archaeological fragments found in Singapore, dominate the ground-floor Lee Kong Chian Collection; one floor up, the South and Southeast Asian Gallery showcases paintings, sculpture and textiles from the region. The Ng Eng Teng Collection is dedicated to Ng Eng Teng (1934–2001), Singapore's foremost modern artist, best known for his figurative sculptures.

Next door you'll find Singapore's hi-tech Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum , which is well worth a wander. To get here catch the 96 bus from Clementi MRT station.

The Mugger’s Guide to Study Spots Around NUS

As students, we all know that when it comes to searching for the perfect study spot, it can seem like finding the proverbial needle in a haystack – the needle, in this case, being the elusive study spot of course. So how can you find that one place that is “just right” for you? The best way to would be to explore different study spots, but who has time for that when exams are just around the corner? Don’t worry – we’ve got your back.

Last year around this time , we introduced study areas around NUS in the article Exam Special: Seven Great Study Spots in NUS (https://blog.nus.edu.sg/reslife/2015/04/12/exam-special-seven-great-study-spots-in-nus/). As the University is ever developing, we thought to make a comeback on this topic, and went to suss out even more spots for your consideration this time!

  • There’s more to libraries than you know!

Are you often too lazy to travel around that you only stick to that one library right in front of your faculty? In our huge campus filled with great facilities, you’ll find a lot of new study spots hiding in places that you might have never even visited! Contrary to some rumours, all libraries on campus are accessible by NUS students from any faculty. Here are some ‘hidden’ libraries that you may want to explore:

For the serious muggers who need a quiet space, head over to the Hon Sui Sen Memorial Library and find the Quiet Room on Level 2. Complete with partitions, the room is for quiet self-study only. Please be considerate and remember not to discuss anything with your peers in the room! 🙂

If you live in UTown and want to escape the crowd in the study areas, visit the Yale-NUS College Library . The open areas excluding the 24-Hour Study Area and the meeting rooms are open to public until 6pm every day. The Music Library , which is only a 15-minute walk from UTown, is also known to be less populated than other study spots around campus (plus, you have an excuse to visit the beautiful Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music!).

This stunning library with its wooden decor will surely boost your motivation to study. Image from: http://www.designboom.com/architecture/yale-nus-campus-pelli-clarke-pelli-architects-singapore-12-31-2015/

Are you the night-owl type that likes to study late at night (or very, very early in the ‘morning’)? Luckily, our campus is filled with great 24hr study spots. The Medical Library , Central Library (Level 6), and the common study areas at UTown are all open 24 hours with full lighting and A/C for our sleepless study nights.

  • The hipster mugging guide: Study-friendly cafes

If you are in the mood for some eggs benedict and a high-quality caffein fix (or if you are simply yearning for a little cafe-vibe in your mugging), travel down to these quiet cafes that are perfect for studying. Jimmy Monkey in One-North is an awesome spot for a casual revising or essay-writing session. Simply Bread at Cluny Court, a quiet and peaceful bakery, is another true hidden gem in the West. If you are willing to travel down to town, The Book Cafe on Martin Road is famous for its lovely interior and soothing atmosphere. Over at Orchard, Oriole Coffee + Bar nearby Somerset MRT is a big cafe where you can get some work done while grabbing a quality cup of coffee.

Simply Bread at Cluny Court. Bread + Coffee + Work = Pure comfort! Image from: http://www.simplybread.com.sg/shops/cluny-court/

If you’re heading down to a cafe to study, here are some tips. Before leaving, search the name of the cafe on Google and monitor the average crowd using the “Popular times” graph. Usually, cafes outside of school are very crowded on weekends and weekdays after 6pm. Most of the time, the best hour to visit a cafe would be early in the morning (there might be a brunch crowd, though!).

There are study-friendly cafe options on campus too. The Platypus Food Bar in Science is a great place to sit yourself with a big bowl of filling salad (yes, you read that right – their salads are healthy but also very filling!) and get a bit of work done too. We introduced you The Coffee Roaster in one of our old Facebook posts for their affordable food options, but they also have a study spot right behind the cafe which is brand new and filled with power points! As one of the less-visited cafes, Starbucks in Yusof Ishak House is often very quiet and is the home to many coffee-loving muggers. On the slightly pricier end, Dome in the University Cultural Centre has comfy chairs and is one of the quietest cafes on campus.

  • Enjoy the fresh air on picnic tables around campus

For some, ice-cold study rooms can be a real distraction for efficient revision. Why not take a break from staying indoors and bring yourself out to the picnic tables? Treat yourself with fresh air, the sound of birds chirping, and slight breezes in these outdoor studying areas.

places to visit near nus singapore

“The fresh air… the breeze… the bright, natural light: this is happiness!” Image from: https://makeameme.org/meme/fresh-air-7uvw2f

The new picnic tables in the Level 1 area under the Central Library are great for studying as well as group projects. The tables are clean, big, and more convenient than your average picnic tables. Also, all basic amenities are available nearby (Including Co-op, ATMs, The Deck, cafes, and did we mention the Central Library?) so you can sit yourself for hours without having to relocate! Also, you can take a few minutes walk from the Central Library (or take a bus to LT13) and you will come across many outdoor tables in AS4 . While you need to travel some flights of stairs to get there, the tables are one of the most peaceful and quiet study spots on campus.

Before we go on, here’s a cool fact: did you know that, on rainy days, you can travel all the way from NUS Business School (Biz 2) to YIH (even MPSH!) without getting soaked by rain at all ? It’s all possible thanks to the sheltered walkway that links the Central Library to YIH . On this walkway, you can find several picnic tables that are hardly ever occupied by students. From the CLB, take the stairs up to the Chinese Library and you will see the path that leads to YIH.

UTown is also a home to great outdoor study spots. On the walk along the path from Koufu down to the UTown Gym , you will see a few picnic tables tucked in the corner. Most of them are (coincidentally) near power points, which makes them perfect spots to start finishing those essays! Also, there are many outdoor picnic tables around the Residential Colleges , which are open to use for all NUS students.

You can take a break while watching people climb the rock climbing walls! Image from blog: https://dayre.me/hellovenus/dWtvExcdFS

We know everyone wants to have their study spots remain as a secret (*wink*) – but if you have some sweet study spots of your own that you don’t mind sharing, post your recommendations on the comments below, or on our Facebook post!

Happy mugging, and all the best for finals! 🙂

18 Cafés Near NUS

18 Cafés Near NUS

Cephas Lim

The Short Review

Price Range: $6-$14

Nearest MRT: Kent Ridge

Food: 1) Wildfire Cheeseburger [$5.30] With 150grams of medium-rare Angus Chuck as its patty, my burger was so juicy that it made it hard to hold up for this snapshot.

Other components sandwiched between the two buttered, toasted brioche buns include melted American cheese, pickled cornichons and glazed, caramelized onions.

Got two of these badbois for $10.60, thanks to the off-peak Burpple Beyond app! There’re plenty of other 1-for-1 choices at Savourworld, so just head on down if you’re feeling a lil peckish at Kent Ridge MRT!

Come Here: Again.

Cephas Lim

Price Range: $11-$14

Nearest MRT: Labrador Park

Instagrammability: High - Nestled amongst numerous art galleries, Creamier's second outlet barring Sunday Folks overlooks the iconic "Blue House" of Gillman Barracks.

Food: 1) Waffles & 2 Scoops [$12.00] Waffles are as good as remembered. Topped up $3.40 for a premium scoop of Rum & Raisin to our basic $8.60 waffle & scoop, which was suitably alcoholic.

Our other scoop was Kaya Toast, exclusive to the Barracks, which was nicely pandan-y & studded with breadcrumbs?

Other Gillman-only flavours include Pomegranate Yoghurt & Macadamia Tropicana. Westies lamenting about only having soft serve with Creamier's waffles...lament no more.

The Bakehouse by Carpenter & Cook

Price Range: $17-$23

Nearest MRT: Queenstown

Instagrammability: High - Marbled surfaces, dainty utensils and a shop full of antique paraphernalia quietly lend ambience to the meal.

Food: 1) Buffalo Mozzarella & Parma Ham [$17.00] To expectations. Parma Ham's always good. But we won't be rushing back to order this again.

2) Pulled Pork Risotto [$21.00] Both risottos had a texture which could've been creamier, but the Pulled Pork plate consisted of more banal flavours. Who knew truffle oil, shaved Parmesan & pulled pork could be so unexciting?

3) Spiced Risotto & Grilled Prawns [$23.00] Featuring Indian-inspired spices reminiscent of curry buns, this heavily Asian-leaning Italian dish's highlight were its fresh prawns.

The Bakehouse (by Carpenter & Cook) is probably better known for their pastries, such as the easily recognizable "stiff peaks" of the Passionfruit Meringue Tart, but hey, let's not let their April 2016 entry into the Entertainer catalogue go unnoticed.

Come Here: Maybe?

Timbre+ (One North)

Price Range: $3-$24

Nearest MRT: one-north

Instagrammability: High - Much care has been invested in the spray-painting of graffiti-esque murals; marrying a container concept with an industrial sheen.

The list of vendors pours on and on: Portico Platos (of Gillman & Dempsey fame), Teppei, Two Wings & Garçons (both hailing from Salute), Dancing Crab, The World is Flat (by Tanuki Raw), as well as a pantheon of well-loved hawker delights, some of which were there before one-north's resurrection.

Food: 1) Kaisendon - Teppei Daidokoro [$16.00] Teppei's always reliable, and while its portion seems smaller than remembered, the standard still warrants a return visit.

2) Three Skewers & Onsen Egg Rice - Kush [$13.30] We ordered the Soft Shell Chilli Crab Rice, but opening day issues plagued their deep fryer.

Essentially $13 for 3 average satays with a side of sambal kangkong & an onsen egg. We're looking forward to the next stall that replaces Kush.

3) Lobster Roll - Dancing Crab [$24.00] Stale fries aside, the two brioche buns were a little on the over-buttered side. Lobster flesh and slaw was alright, though it's not spectacular.

4) Sticky Date Pudding - D. by Slake [$6.50] While the date pudding was little too spongey and dense, the accompanying salted caramel gelato was pretty delicious.

Other outlets were still prepping, with The World is Flat opening during evening hours and Portico Platos launching on Monday, 4 April. Dine-in items impose a $1 tray deposit, which can be refunded upon returning all utensils to a conveyor belt. Pretty cool stuff.

Live music during Wednesday to Saturday Nights. If you're feeling frugal, the adjacent cheap canteen food's got your back. Plus, it's just 1 bus stop away from Kent Ridge MRT; what a time to be alive in NUS.

Butter My Buns (NUS University Town)

Price Range: $5-$11

Instagrammability: Moderate - Previously occupied by Bing Bing, the space is buttered with yellow light, which is conducive for study pods but not so much for the gram.

Food: 1) All Day Breakfast [$7.00] She chose Garlic Bread [$1.50], which was fragrantly garlicky but had the textural resolve of an ISIS militant; Mac & Cheese [$3.00], a squishy mound that's just okay; and Portobello Mushrooms [$2.50], which was aggressively salty.

2) All Day Breakfast [$10.50] I chose Scrambled Eggs [$3.00], for the same price at Atlas Coffeehouse LOL; the same salty-inked Portobello Mushrooms [$2.50] and a very decent Waffle with Plain Honey [$5.00].

For 5 bucks, the waffle's actually quite good. Don't bother with the Truffled Honey version, which is distractingly overpowered.

No further student discount, unless you salaciously engage in the proverbial buttering of buns.

Come Here: Never (only buy waffles!).

Waa Cow! (National University Town)

Price Range: $9-$16

Instagrammability: High - Taking over the late Late Plate's space in the NUS Shaw Foundation Alumni House, Waa Cow's outdoor verandah provides a nice spot for your photo op.

Food: 1) Wagyu Don - Main [$17.90] Standards wise, it's on par with Tanuki Raw, but Waa Cow does throw in a bit more beef for its heftier price. Charring the tops of the rice is a little unusual, but the burnt taste hardly permeates through the bowl. The rest of the rice is better than Tanuki's.

At first glance, the shallot jam looks suspiciously like a dollop of chilli, but it was actually pretty delicious. Any well-executed onsen egg is glorious, but perhaps swapping the common micro-roe for plump ikura could better justify its price. Comes with token miso soup.

2) Soy Glazed Wings [$8.90] Love at first bite. Crisp, flavourful; though my friend complained it was a tad oily. Special thanks to Constance & Aaron for letting us try them!

Present & past NUS wayfarers enjoy 10% off. Though nearby joints like DSTLLRY may still triumph in the battle of the Dons, you can't beat being on campus. Waa Cow makes Wagyu Dons between tutorials a reality.

Their extended menu, which includes Chirashi Dons, launches today, so if The Deck's Japanese food is too sad for your liking, pop over to Waa Cow for a little splurge.

Sunday Folks (Chip Bee Gardens)

Price Range: $10-$13

Nearest MRT: Holland Village

Instagrammability: High - Waffles are still as pretty, and the cramped place is still as noisy.

Food: 1) Single Waffle - Earl Grey Lavender [$9.90] Earl Grey's a great flavour, Earl Grey Lavender's a great potpourri scent. Add $1.50 for 4 cubes of Matcha Royce chocolate.

2) Double Waffle - Pistachio [$12.90] Stuck to my familiar preference of flavour, that comes lightly dusted with pistachio crumbs. Waffles still maintain their standard from months ago, though it's now a dollar pricier.

With Daily Scoop & 2am:dessertbar sitting at both ends of the budget spectrum, Sunday Folks still firmly defends its position as the go-to dessert stop in HV.

Bodacious Bar & Bistro

Price Range: $15-$20

Nearest MRT: Buona Vista

Instagrammability: Moderate - Choose between gnarly lighting inside & the huge Bodacious logo, or enduring the heat outside.

Food: 1) Greek Meaty Balls [$15.80] Portioned by Scrooge from A Christmas Carol. Nicely-toasted brioche to soak up whatever little tomato purée in the pan. Meatballs are okay.

2) Pulled Pork Burger [$14.80] Serviceable. Fries are dusted lightly with Cajun powder, albeit lightly enough to not taste like Cajun fries.

3) Bodacious Signature Mocktail [$4.20] One of the more impressive items on our table. A concoction of lime & ginger ale, littered with crunchy passionfruit, murdered mint leaves and slices of lemon & pink grapefruit, make for a very tropical, refreshing affair.

One-for-one-ed with The Entertainer. In times of perpetual inflation, it's nice to see cafés buck the trend. The last I visited, all prices excluded taxes, and the meatballs actually got a dollar cheaper.

Come Here: Never.

Revolution Coffee

Price Range: $14-$20

Instagrammability: High - Warehouse-esque furnishings with ventilation to match. I could literally smell food on my clothes after just walking in to grab some menus.

Food: 1) Gula Melaka Pancakes [$14.00] Revolution's signature dish ticked the right boxes again. While noticeably more charred & dry than usual, Kieffer didn't seem to mind lel.

2) Café Latte [$5.50] "Good" (Tay, 2015).

Come Here: Again (for Pancakes).

Guzman y Gomez (The Star Vista)

Price Range: $9-$12

Instagrammability: Moderate - Psychedelic tilework, marred by some very disposable utensils.

Food: 1) Grilled Steak Chipotle Quesadillas [$8.50] Thicker slabs of beef, that are more balanced than the latter below. This would be my filling of choice.

2) Slow Cooked Beef Quesadillas [$8.50] Intensely flavourful, which treads into oversalty territory after a few more bites. Still not as noticeable in the quesadillas, as with their rice bowls.

3) Slow Cooked Beef Burrito Bowl [$10.50] Quite salty. Didn't really appreciate the abundance of black beans, and more Pico de Gallo could have been scooped in to lend a tart acidity to this assault of sodium.

It's interesting to observe their hustling food assembly line, though I'm not a big fan of limp quesadillas, which really could use better-grilled wraps & glorious cheddar.

Come Here: Never (until tweaks are made).

Late Plate (NUS Alumni House)

Price Range: $12-$16

Nearest MRT: Haw Par Villa

Instagrammability: Moderate - Located on campus, in the Shaw Alumni House next to Mochtar Riady.

Food: 1) Foil Fish Set [$12.50] Pretty run-of-the-mill. The frozen dory's standard reflects the shop's long-term prospects.

3) Tom Yum Cream Pasta [$11.60] Recommended by NUS business students. It's not bad actually; the mussels taste foul but the cream sauce's generous & quite palatable.

Nothing said matters really, because this place closes TOMORROW (30/10/15). After competing more than a year with Reedz Café, it's time for Late Plate to become the late Late Plate.

Come Here: Not even if you wanted to. (CLOSED)

Envy Coffee

Instagrammability: Moderate - Decent lighting for its more recognizable DC figurine petri-dishes.

Food: 1) Sambal Prawn Paste Burger [$13.90] Would've preferred more of the prawn paste flavour than sambal to come through, but the chicken's amply tender & marinated. Salad's okay, but the varying textures of the accompanying criss-cut fries ranged from acceptable to impenetrable with a fork.

2) Mushroom Soup [add $5.40 set] Slightly above expectations; not out of place in a mid-level hotel buffet spread.

3) Hot Chocolate [add $5.40 set] From the last visit, no change.

If nearby joints One Man Coffee or Bread Yard are too light on portion & price for you, while Envy's not necessarily better, its revamped menu does offer fuller meals.

NUS Museum, Singapore Overview

Singapore. The city that is as reputed for its rich cultural heritage as for its discotheques, where the number of people thronging in museums go hand in hand with the crowds in the clubs. Here, the preservation of its heritage is not neglected just because new buildings are coming up every day. Singapore makes sure that the history buffs have no dearth of places to seek solace. One such place which houses the artefacts bearing witness to Singapore's rich history is the NUS Museum. Adorning the main campus of the National University of Singapore in Kent Ridge since 2002, the museum is the oldest of all the university museums dotted across the city-state. Delve into the deep history while taking in the magnificent Southeast Asian, Chinese and Indian collections.

From traditional paintings to modern art, from splendid sculptures to charming ceramics, the NUS Museum is a treasure trove of significant artefacts. While the artwork in this glorious museum ranges from the Lee Kong Chian Collection to the Straits Chinese Collection, the number of artefacts exceeds eight thousand. The main aim of this university museum is to clear the way for facilitating both the cultural and intellectual lives not only within the campus but beyond it. Through regular development of the collections as well as curatorial practice, the prestigious museum contributes to the preservation of knowledge.

History of nus museum, collections at the nus museum.

  • South and Southeast Asian Collection:  Originating from the University of Malaya Art Museum, this collection houses awe-inspiring classical Indian sculptures with roots in the medieval age, beautiful ceramics and textiles which date back to the eighteenth century, and contemporary Singaporean and Malayan artefacts. The vast collection expands on a regular basis and its most recent collections include paintings, woodblock prints, calligraphies and drawings from notable artists like Lim Mu Hue, Marco Hsu and Jimmy Ong.
  • Lee Kong Chian Collection:  Predominantly Chinese, this stunning collection of jades, bronzes, classical paintings and ceramics is mainly housed from the Lee Kong Chian Art Museum located within the Nanyang University. The mesmerising collection has been growing since 1977 and at present, it displays the rich and complex contemporary and modern cultures of the Chinese community. Recent addition to this stupendous collection includes artistic ink paintings by Ho Chee Lick, Hong Sek Chern, Lim Tze Peng and Ling Yang Chang.
  • Ng Eng Teng Collection:  From sketches to maquettes, from sculptures to public art, this comprehensive collection with around 1200 artistic materials bears witness to the spectacular range of work by a single artist. With glorious artwork that spans over four decades, the late Ng Eng Teng played a major role in linking the pioneers of Singapore to the contemporary artists who followed.
  • Straits Chinese Collection:  This collection stands apart from the rest and consists of textiles, furniture, and a plethora of other eye-catching domestic products. Displayed at the NUS Baba House, this vast collection catalogues the Peranakan Chinese History around the twentieth century and assists in promoting the study of cultural encounters and migrations.

But public transport in Singapore is always very easy, and I didn't miss being near Orchard Road or Marina Bay. Breakfast was very good. Not the best I've had but definitely not the worst! A decent variety. Staff was friendly and helpful. The hotel was super clean. If you travel in Singapore much, you find out that older hotels, even 4-star ones, tend to have a little mold in the bathrooms. Since this was a brand-new hotel, the bathroom was absolutely immaculate! The pool was nice. The restaurants beneath the hotel were very good. I especially enjoyed Carpenter and Cook.

the staff were friendly and willing to help, although it surprised me that check in required a photocard id. the rooms were tidy and quaint, although a bit on the small side. the bathroom was quite small as well, with the shower head almost over the toilet. also, as far as i'm aware, they do not serve food. however, despite all this, it's very close to the national uni...

the staff were friendly and willing to help, although it surprised me that check in required a photocard id. the rooms were tidy and quaint, although a bit on the small side. the bathroom was quite small as well, with the shower head almost over the toilet. also, as far as i'm aware, they do not serve food. however, despite all this, it's very close to the national university of singapore, had great bus connections (to important places like harbour front) and had a small row of restaurants nearby; not to mention a well-supplied 7-eleven. the rooms were also cheap which was a big factor. for a cheap room which you won't spend too much time in, this is a great hotel.

the hotel location is great and accessable to any parts of singapore caz its juat a walking distance to the bus stops. away from the busy streets of singapore it is a comfortable place to stay. it is just 2 bus stops away from vivo city that makes shopping easier and travel to sentosa is very convenient. comfotable bed and very clean room and friendly receptionist.

Pasir Panjang Inn

The service and check in was effortless and friendly. Everything was ready upon arrival. Got my keys in 5 minutes. The bed is comfortable and room is reasonable clean. Property is indeed older and bath tab seems to be patched with gum substance. I especially appreciate it's a family run hotel that doesn't encourage or allow red light activities. It makes the place cleaner and comfortable. It's a good family hotel and useful for solo travelers looking for accommodation near NUS. Walking distance to NUS Biz. The breakfast was very basic. I don't know what others mentioned about the service or staff. I found the staff and service provided to be very friendly, prompt, and helpful. I think perhaps it's how you first approach and treat them? Remember respect begets respect; if you want friendly service, make sure you are friendly and considerate. The air con in my initial room wasn't cold even after the first 2 hours though but switched room which had a fan and was a little better. Would stay here again if I was visiting NUS and needed accommodation near by. Especially like being able to walk to NUS and take the internal bus shuttle. Also like the convenience of breakfast despite being very basic. Overall, it's a good 2 star hotel. Much better than my experience when I booked at the 3 Star Venue Hotel in Joo Chait. (Didn't know it was a red light hotel with thin wall which could hear all the sounds of the neighbors through the night.) Thankful that Pasir Panjang Inn was very different. The room is very quiet at night for a good rest. Some renovation could help the Inn. The only other gripe I have about the place is that the hallway and my initial room 303, had a strong smoke smell.

Went to Singapore for my pre-birthday celebration and I must say I had made a wise choice to pick Bay hotel as my accomodation. My main purpose to Singapore is to visit Universal Studio Singapore and this place is just awesome as it located only 15minutes walking distance away from USS. In addition, if you prefer other methods than walking, you can always choose to either take the MRT which cost S$4 per person or bus S$2 per person. Both these transportations are located opposite the hotel which requires only 5 minutes walk or less if you are a fast walker. The other part which I would like to compliment is the free minibar. It serves absolutely great beverages. You'll be surprised when you open up the mini fridge! Last but not least, the staff were extremely helpful. They just made our day because my husband does not like corner room and we requested to change to somewhere in the middle. Eventhough the hotel was pretty full during the time we check in but the staff actually assisted to find a room which actually made our day. The cons side of this hotel is the room is pretty small. So don't expect a big room when you check in. Another down side is some rooms actually faced the cemetery & my room was one of them. So I closed my room's curtains most of the time. I will ensure the next time, I will request not to have this room because it's kinda scary in a way. One more thing which I think Bay Hotel can improvise by installing perhaps air purifier/air refresher at the lobby area because it just doesn't smell good at the lobby area. Not to the extent that it's a bad smell but in my point of view, it should at least smell good/comfortable at the lobby area. Maybe they can consider this & hopefully during my next visit, this will be improvised. Overall, it's a good hotel & I will definitely recommend to my friends' who wanted to go Singapore.
