Maginhawa Street All-Day Food Trip Sample Itinerary

  • October 3, 2014

When we first toured the stretch of Maginhawa Street back in 2012, we were able to come up with a listing of about 20 restaurants. We recommended Van Gogh is Bipolar ’s endorphin-inducing dishes, The BRGR Project ’s DIY-burgers, and the Central American flavors of Cocina Juan . In our more recent guide, we highlighted the country charm of The Breakfast Table , the coziness of Cool Beans Cafe , A Taste of Heaven Milkshake Hub ’ s spunky flavors, and the authenticity of Meshwe’s Lebanese Food .

Just last week, we revisited Maginhawa to update our directory. Again, we were surprised by the number of new restaurants that have sprouted in the past quarter. We saw new concepts like Indonyaki , Jeepney , Bagneto , and Antiteasis Books and Brews . There’s also Rby’s , Marciana’s , Tornado Peri-Peri Chicken , Little India , and Me Love You Long Time .

According to Margie Santos-Roa , Chief of Staff of House Speaker Sonny Belmonte and organizer of the upcoming Maginhawa Food Festival (October 11) , there are now over 80 restaurants on Maginhawa and its side streets. A QC resident herself, Margie recalls the now-closed Nanette’s Snack Haus as the very first iconic restaurant on Maginhawa. As for the longest-running restaurant, she is quite sure that it is Ulo-ulo sa Vet .

With over 80 restaurants lined up along a 2.165 km winding road , how do you decide where to eat? To help out first-time visitors of Maginhawa, we've curated a sample itinerary for an all-day food trip in this street.

Breakfast at Sweet Spot Café 189 Maginhawa St. cor. Makadios St. (+63 2) 435-3045 Monday to Sunday 8:00am – 10:00pm

Husband and wife tandem Eric and Ching Calderon consolidated their favorite savory and sweet dishes in Sweet Spot Cafe. Eric conceptualized the industrial-chic style of the well-lit loft. Ching, on the other hand, is in charge of the food.

Sweet Spot Cafe specializes in desserts but with an extensive coffee menu we think it's a good breakfast place as well. Try their latte (P95) or espresso made with 100% Arabica beans and pair it with their Pulled Pork Adobo Sandwich (P160) . After eating, spend some an hour or two reading in their book nook.

Lunch at Jek’s Ku-Bo  Bulalo at Ulo-Ulo 77 Maginhawa St. (+63 2) 434-7362 Monday to Saturday 11:00am – 10:00pm

Jek's Ku-bo is an al fresco, turo-turo style restaurant popular for its affordable Bulalo (P150) and Sinigang na Ulo ng Salmon (P130). Apart from these two best-sellers, the rest of the menu changes daily. Beef-based viands are priced at P95 per order; pork is at P75, and vegetables are at P50. A buko stall, Jek's Bu-ko, sells P30-buko shake in front of the restaurant.

And oh, in case you're wondering, Jek's Ku-bo is named after its founders: Jessica and her Kuya Boy.

Dessert at Wicked Kitchen 189 Maginhawa cor. Makadios St (63 2) 433-0196 Monday to Sunday 11:00am – 11:00pm

You know how foodies like describing their desserts as sinful? Well, that adjective couldn't be truer if one is to describe Wicked Kitchen's desserts. Named after the seven deadly sins, Wicked Kitchen's dessert line is not for the faint of heart.

What to order? Well, they are most famous for Gluttony (P155 single; P295 to share) , a plate-sized chewy chocolate chip cookie ala mode. Greed (P178) is a skillet of smores– baked mallows and chocolate, served with graham crackers.  Wrath (P148) , another bestseller, is a mango crepe, drizzled with spicy Nutella and flamed Cointreau, and then topped with vanilla ice cream.

Merienda at Marciana’s 106-A Maginhawa St. 435-4912

Marciana's, a newcomer in the street, specializes in Pancit Palabok (P230 to P100) and Puto Pandan (P11/each) . Its proprietor, Anne, runs a Palabok Delight stall in SM Fairview and SM Sta. Mesa. The 3 month-old Filipino restaurant, named after Anne's mother, also serves Pinoy rice meals like Dinuguan and Sisig.

Dinner at Rby’s Steak and Shake 152 A Maginhawa St. (+63 2) 966-2798, (+63 917) 315-9481 Monday 11:00am – 9:00pm  Tuesday to Sunday 11:00am – 10:00pm

Sisters Rowena and Bernadette recognized the dearth of good and affordable cheesesteak places in Metro Manila. In January 2014, they opened Rby's to sell filling 6" cheesesteaks made with local, but quality ingredients for less than P200. Currently, they have four variants: Classic, Hoagie, American, Provolone. Aside from these, they also have burgers, with patties made from ground steak.

What to try: Classic Cheesesteak (6" – P160) , Knockout Steak Burger (P195), 76ers (P170) , Cheese Fries (P135) and Pink Lemonade (P35).

maginhawa food trip itinerary

Dessert at Snow Crème 189 Maginhawa St. cor. Makadios St. Monday to Sunday 12:00pm – 12:00am

If you can still manage to eat after going through all of the dishes mentioned above, cap off your night with a light shaved ice cream or a milk tea at Snow Creme. What to try: Taiwan Shaved Ice (P130), Golden Mango (P120), and Peanut Banana Foster (P120).

maginhawa food trip itinerary

Maginhawa Street has indeed come a long way from being a sleepy alternative route (from Cubao to UP and Commonwealth) to Quezon City’s hottest food destination. “The Quezon City government has seen how the area flourished into a food district in just a couple of years so we’re also really doing our best in marketing these businesses,” Margie remarked.

As part of the kick-off celebration of the city's foundation day, the first Quezon City Food Festival will be held on Saturday, 11 October 2014, beginning at 9:00 AM. It intends to showcase Maginhawa Street as a tourist spot in Quezon City.  No entrance fee will be charged for the Quezon City Food Festival and 5,000 lucky visitors will be given special gift certificates which they can use to claim one (1) free meal worth P150.00 from any of the participating Maginhawa establishments.

Mang Larry’s Isawan and Maginhawa St. Food Trip

One evening when we were having dinner, one of my workmates insisted to push through with the Maginhawa St. food trip we’re planning months ago. It was the first day of August then and the majority voted for it to be done by August 31, a month of planning. We’re not too excited. Since Maginhawa is near University of the Philippines, we also added Mang Larry’s Isawan to the itinerary.

Some of us met at Trinoma and hailed a taxi to UP while others went directly to Mang Larry’s Isawan . We were there around 3 in the afternoon and a lot of people were already queuing in front of Mang Larry’s booth for their orders, a testimony to The Famous Isawan in UP Campus. They have several skewers available: Balun-balunan/Gizzard (Php6), Special Isaw Pork (Php6), Pork Barbeque (Php10), Atay/Liver, Isaw Manok/Chicken Intestine (Php3), Isaw Baboy/Pork Intestine (Php3), Goto (Php6), Tenga/Pork Ears (Php6) and also offers Siomai (6 pcs for Php22) and Liempo (Php50) for take-out.

I ordered 3 Isaw Manok, 1 Balun-balunan, 1 Pork barbeque, and 2 Pork Ears for a total of Php37. Waiting time was about 20 minutes since there were a lot of people on their booth. Vinegar for your order is available on the containers at the side of their food stall. The famous isaw manok was good but the taste would have been better if they have a better taste of vinegar (sauce, whatever you call it), I liked the pork ears though. If you craved for some fishballs, kikiams, squidballs or kwek-kwek (quail eggs coated with orange batter), you can satisfy it from a food stall located near Mang Larry’s. Mang Larry’s Isawan together with some food stalls are located in a vacant lot along F. MA. Guerrero Street.

UP Jeeps Tips : Dong, a friend of a workmate is from UP, gave us some tips in riding jeepneys inside the campus. You can determine the route of the jeep with its color on top; maroon (Katipunan), green (Philcoa, Pantranco, SM North/Trinoma), and yellow (Ikot and Toki). Katipunan, Philcoa and Toki routes are in counter-clockwise direction while Ikot is in clockwise direction.

From Mang Larry’s, we made to Krus na Ligas and rode a tricycle to Friuli Trattoria in Maginhawa Street. The place is not that big and since we were 12 in the group, we waited for the staff to arrange a table for us. Friuli is known for pizzas and pastas. When we checked the menu, best seller pizzas start at Php180 so we asked a staff how large it is, it was 10-inches according to him. We ordered 1 each from the bestsellers and 1 All Meat. I didn’t expect the experience Friuli had provided. They exceeded the value of our money because the pizzas were so good and even better than other pricey pizzas in the metro. For the four pizza flavors we had, our total bill was Php810 only.

Ranking the flavors we tried, some of the members of the group also agreed with me that the best was the Margherita, followed by All Meat, Tre Formaggi and last was Viva Venezia.

Next destination we checked was Sancho Churreria Manila known for cakes and pastries but also serves appetizers, entrees, and soups. Since we just had pizza, we decided to order some of their cakes and pastries for dessert. We got 5 servings of their famous Churros de Chocolate (Php85 per serving), 2 Cream Puffs (Php30/pc), 2 Chocolate Éclairs (Php30/pc) and a slice of Choco de Leche (Php70) and Chocolite (Php70).

The Churros were actually good but I just wish that the Spanish Chocolate served with it was a bit sweeter. The éclair and the puff seemed to have same pastry cream filling though, just okay to whisk the pizza beforehand. The group liked the Choco de Leche over the Chocolite. For all the dessert we ordered, the bill was Php685.

Last stop for the day was Tomatokick. Since we were already full, we decided not to try the meals but ordered some drinks and finger foods instead. I didn’t take photos during the drinking session since I was already tired and bloated with the food we tried.

Overall, the trip was great having tasted a variety of food from street foods to pizza and pastries. I only spent around Php300 for the entire food trip including transportation. The food places we tried are only some of the restaurants available in Maginhawa Street. We will surely come back and will be trying out other restaurants in the area.

Maginhawa food trip second stop: a moonleaf tea shop review.

There had to be a back-up plan. We NEED to have some sort of dessert, not to mention it’s still too early for our third stopover in the itinerary. And c’mon, we’re at Maginhawa. There’s no shortage of food options here. And thank you heavens for Moonleaf Tea Shop, that rescued us during ou r dessert dilemma. There are two branches of Moonleaf at Teacher’s Village . One is at 44A Magiting Street, and the other one, which is the one that we visited, is the bigger branch, located at 103 Maginhawa Street .To be honest, we didn’t really go there for the tea at first. We were after the pastries since yeah, I told you we were hunting for dessert. But once we got inside, the tea milk tea flavors were so tempting we just had to order some. After all, tea time can be any time right?

They have three categories for their drinks: “ Basic ” drinks – Oolong, Jasmine, Wintermelon, and Black Tea on their..well…basic forms. “ Milk ” teas  -milk-based tea flavors “ Fruit ” drinks – tea flavors with fruity twists. And some Yakult too! We ordered the bestsellers: Wintermelon Milk Tea (Php 75.00), Lychee Yakult (Php 70.00), and Passion Fruit Yakult (Php 70.00). Personally, the Wintermelon and Passion Fruit Yakult flavors are just right for my taste. The Lychee Yakult was a bit too sour for me especially that I had pudding for an add-on. If you’re going to have Lychee Yakult, pearls may be the best add-on for it.

If you’re a student and you need some good place to study or meet for your group reports, Moonleaf Maginhawa would be a great place to hang-out. Not only is the place spacious, relaxing, and bright (there’s a lot of natural light coming in), there’s also a post-it / doodle space where you can give your creativity a little bit of warm up before you conceptualize for that group project.

Been there! I must say this place has really a good ambience. Gabi kami nagpunta jan, and super cozy lang ng place. I also want to try their pastry kaso I don't have enough money that time since biglaan lang pagpunta namin. Haha. Anyway, babalik pa naman kami someday jan hehe

The place seem to have a good ambiance. And their pastries looks yummy. 😀

Nagutom ako! I really love desserts! <3

yakult milkteas sounds very yummy! because i am fan of both yakult and milkteas i wonder how it would taste like for my tastebuds if i mix it together. craving for some macarons after seeing your post. not good haha

Lychee Yakult Milk Tea. That is somethings I want to taste of.

Steakfix Maginhawa | Satisfy Your Steak Cravings

Dea Mariano

Maginhawa Street is a famous food spot in Quezon City that is filled with exciting food experiences anyone would love to try. This is also the place where we’ve come across a must-try restaurant that’s focused on serving mouthwatering steak dishes . Steakfix is another restaurant to satisfy our ever hungry carnivorous tummies!

maginhawa food trip itinerary

Food & Price

At first, we’re a little skeptic about the food quality because the price is quite cheap for a steak meal. I tried not to expect too much but when meals were served and took my first bite, I was amazed. It did not taste cheap at all. The meals were flavorsome and were served in big portions!

What I’m loving about this resto is that every steak meal is even customizable! They have this create-your-steak-platter feature. You can choose which side dishes you want to pair with your steak.

For our Hawaiian Chicken Steak, we chose Pesto Linguini & Pizza Margherita. The combination was a delicious complete meal in itself. The chicken was marinated in a delightful marinade that’s bursting with flavors. Every forkful of Pesto Linguini followed by a bite of Pizza Margherita was such a pleasurable treat!

maginhawa food trip itinerary

We did not go wrong when we picked Salmon Steak Melt from the menu. Even this pricey fish was served in incredible portion without burning a hole through our wallet! We picked Mucha Rice to go along with it. The Steak was topped with melted cheddar cheese and matched perfectly with Mucha Rice.

3-Cheese T-Bone Melt was flavorful but a little tough for a well-done steak. It was topped with melted cheese as well and slices of mushroom. We chose Pizza Margherita to be its partner.

maginhawa food trip itinerary

To cleanse the palate, drinks served were a pitcher of Basil Lemonade and a glass of Red Wine. Both matched perfectly with every steak meal! Dessert was Rocky Mountain Ala Mode which is a scoop of vanilla ice cream circled with chunks of brownies drizzled with chocolate and caramel syrup.

They recently adopted the eat-all-you-can trend so that steak fanatics can also have their fave as much as they want! For the price of 499 Php, you can savor T-Bone Melts, Porkloin, Chicken Steak, and all side dishes. They have a total of 7 side dishes to choose from. I strongly recommend the Pizza Margherita!

maginhawa food trip itinerary

For a menu that allows you to eat steak meal for as low as 149 Php, and unlimited steak and sides for 499 Php, that’s definitely a good deal! And remember, your plate is fully customizable!

Steakfix is strategically located at Maginhawa Street which is one of the busiest food scenes in the metro. People frequently flock in this certain area to try different cuisines and food experiences.

Waze/Google/Uber/Grab: Steakfix Maginhawa

Address: #99 Maginhawa Street, Teachers Village, Quezon City

The staff are very welcoming in a way that won’t intimidate you. They are attentive and quick to respond. I loved that they looked neat and joyful.

The service I can say is competitive which is expected for a restaurant standing at a prominent food spot such as Maginhawa Street.

We went there dinner time and the place still looked bright and vibrant. The restaurant is quite huge comparing to its neighbors. With its floor to ceiling glass windows allowing people to have see-through vision of its interiors from the outside, it kinda attracts customers easily.

The interiors are totally artistic with many lightings to keep the area alive. The only thing that I find difficult were the seats as it was a little hassle not having a backrest.

Where to eat in Maginhawa: Top restaurants to try in 2023

After almost three years of socially distanced dining and making do with home delivery, this is the year to reconnect with family and friends for weekend food trips. While some well-loved establishments along Maginhawa, the “ eat street ” permanently closed, other restaurants adapted by providing more al fresco dining options or shifting to delivery. Others, which shut their doors, have reopened or branched out.

Here are a few new restaurants and old favorites around the Maginhawa and Malingap neighborhood of Teacher’s Village and nearby UP Diliman in Quezon City where you can go food tripping this 2023.

Where to eat in Maginhawa: Top 10 restaurants to try in 2022

With everything happening in the world, sometimes you just have to count your blessings. And one of the things I feel thankful for is that we live in a great neighborhood with lots of good food options.

Unfortunately, the pandemic has left some casualties in the neighborhood Maginhawa restaurant scene. Sadly, the beloved watering hole Tomato Kick has closed down, with a modern new structure currently being built in the place where the old house used to stand. Maginhawa icon Van Gogh is Bipolar also closed its doors amid the lockdown.

Bike-friendly cafes in the Maginhawa area

Bike-friendly cafes in the Maginhawa area

The coffee and cycling culture has really boomed in the Philippines. Since the pandemic hit, pop-up coffee kiosks coffee and minimalist roadside cafes serving good coffee catering to cyclists have become destinations on their own for weekend rides. You can find a lot of minimalist and pop-up roadside cafes situated in scenic spots along biker’s routes like Antipolo, Timberland, Boso-Boso, Marilaque, offering relaxing spots to rest during longer rides.

But for those looking for a destination for quick city rides, there are plenty of cool coffee shops in and around the metro that you can check out as well. Here are just a few cafes in my own Maginhawa neighborhood where bikers can grab a good cup of coffee and snacks for those chill Tambike sessions.

Outdoor dining and al fresco restaurants in Maginhawa

Outdoor dining and al fresco restaurants in Maginhawa

UPDATED: November 2021

With most tourism establishments still closed and travel still generally restricted, going to a restaurant to eat out is one of the few allowable activities people can do in the city. Dining out gives people a semblance of normalcy and a break from staying home and cooking the entire week.

While it’s still safer to get food delivered compared to dining in, if you do choose to eat out for special occasions or in between errands, it’s best to choose places with outdoor seating and good ventilation. A lot of restaurants in the area have evolved with pandemic times and changed their dining set-up to cater to meet the restrictions.

Street Art Guide in and near Maginhawa

Maginhawa Street in Quezon City is popularly known as an “Eat Street” because of the number of restaurants in the area. Recently, I’ve noticed a lot of new street art and murals around the neighborhood made by local artists who live in the area. Some serve as decorative elements adorning gates or walls outside food parks, restos, or other business establishments.

Oldest & Most Nostalgic Restaurants in Quezon City

Oldest & Most Nostalgic Restaurants in Quezon City

What is it with nostalgia these days?

I’ve been missing everything about daily life pre-COVID, especially eating out. Who else misses the simple act of dining in at a restaurant and just chilling out with friends over beers at a bar? Part of what makes dining out special is the ambiance of the restaurant, the service, and the company and laughter as you enjoy your meals together with friends and family.

maginhawa food trip itinerary

Anyway, this got me thinking of the oldest restaurants and food establishments in the vicinity that I can patronize for delivery/takeout and hopefully revisit when they’re allowed to reopen. It gives me hope to see establishments that remain resilient and have managed to endure through various crises including World War II, fires, typhoons, economic recessions, and currently this global pandemic where the Philippines is facing the world’s longest lockdown.

A lot of restaurants have come and gone along Maginhawa Street in Quezon City. As a resident, I have top 10 personal favorites that I regularly go to including Friuli, Tomato Kick, Roberta’s Seafood Restaurant and Indonyaki, to name a few. While these days, the area seems saturated with food parks, Samgyupsal and milk tea places catering to the student crowd, some residences have been converted into restaurants ideal for quiet time or small gatherings. Here are some of the relatively newer restaurants (opened from 2017 to 2019) that offer unique food and a cozy homey ambiance in the Maginhawa neighborhood.

Sometimes we all just need a quick getaway somewhere refreshing, but accessible. In the busy urban sprawl of Metro Manila, not everyone is lucky enough to have green spaces and gardens in their homes. Dining in garden restaurants can give you that quick fix of the great outdoors. Here are just a few garden restaurants in and near the metro worth hunting down for your next date, or food-trip session with friends.

I’m having a hard time keeping this list updated every time a new restaurant opens or closes in the area. To make my life easier, I’ve decided to just narrow down this list to 10 places to eat in the Maginhawa area (which are still open as of January 2019).

How to Get to Maginhawa Street in Quezon City

Maginhawa Street in Teacher’s Village seems to be one of the most popular neighborhood food trip destinations in the metro these days. There are a lot of restaurants and food parks along the street as well as nearby streets like Malingap, Magiting and Mapagkawanggawa. It seems that every week, a new place opens up.

Once a quiet, residential neighborhood, the whole area surged in popularity with weekend food-trippers after being featured in various blogs (including my own Maginhawa: The Eat Street ), television shows and hosting the first Quezon City Food Festival on October 2014. Since then, it’s become a “tourist destination” of sorts for people looking for good eats. For those not familiar with this street, here’s a quick guide on how to get there by different modes of transport.
