Wildlife Tours & Vacations

  • Ways to travel

Get closer to nature, the Intrepid way.

From Borneo’s rich jungle ecosystem to the islands of the Galapagos , our small group tours take you to the very heart of nature all over the world. Marvel at elephants as they’re silhouetted against an African sunset, watch chimpanzees swinging in the treetops above you, and come face to face with animals you’ve only ever read about or seen on TV in the wilds of Costa Rica. With incredible local leaders guiding the way and wildlife experts accompanying you on game drives, informational walks, informal sessions, and educational talks, our trips offer an unforgettable chance to observe these captivating creatures in their natural habitat, all while staying in a range of accommodations almost as memorable as your animal sightings - think safari lodges and wilderness camps.

But, before you take out your camera, we ensure that any interactions are done responsibly, and with the greatest level of respect. We believe that wild animals should be viewed – without our interference – doing what they do best: living in the wild.

Supporting wildlife

Not only does our entire range of wildlife trips promise to give you unforgettable animal experiences, but they also directly support the conservation of wildlife and the people who take care of that wildlife.  So, you can rest assured knowing that the money you spend by travelling with us is reinvested into the protection of the wildlife you see and the communities you visit like the jewellery workshop run by a team of women in Zambia that donates funds for anti-poaching patrols.

Local expert-led tours

Is your lemur knowledge almost non-existent? Do you have any idea about the intricacies of Borneo’s jungle ecosystem? Don’t know the orangutans from the chimpanzees? On an Intrepid trip, you don’t have to figure it out on your own. Every wildlife trip includes at least one local wildlife expert – from park rangers knowledgeable about mountain gorillas to indigenous people with a special connection to land - to take you on guided walks, conduct informal sessions, and participate in educational conversations.

Red binoculars

Range of experiences

Traditional Game Drives, boat safaris, and nature walks are all par for the course on one of our wildlife trips but at Intrepid, our itineraries delve deeper to provide you with the whole, unique picture. Incorporating a range of different opportunities for travellers to experience the world’s wildlife such as a visit to a Wildlife Forensic Laboratory in Zambia where officials investigate wildlife crimes (just like CSI but for animals!) and learning firsthand about Antarctica’s ecosystem from your onboard marine biologist.

Responsible travel & conservation

We are not only giving back through offering safaris that make a difference but also partnering with conservation projects on the ground to raise awareness and important funding through the Intrepid Foundation.

Animal welfare

At Intrepid, we believe that it’s our responsibility to help preserve the planet for the next generation of travelers, as well as for the communities – and animals – that call these places home. That’s why we’ve worked with World Animal Protection  to create a set of guidelines each and every one of our trips follows.

Our animal welfare pledge

We’ve also partnered with the team at Blood Lions as a commitment to actively working towards a solution to lion exploitation by signing their ‘Born to Live Wild’ pledge.

Visiting animals

We only visit facilities involving wild animals in captivity if the reason for the facility directly helps, and is in the best interest, of the animals involved. For example, rescue centers operating with the highest animal welfare and conservation standards possible.

Visiting the MandaLao Elephant Conservation in Laos

Being a wildlife-friendly traveler

From doing your research to never using animals as a photo prop, there are a few easy ways to become a wildlife-friendly traveler . Join Intrepid co-founder Geoff Manchester and Lek Chailert, the founder of Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai, to find out more about Intrepid's ban on elephant rides and what you can do to help protect wildlife on your travels, or check out the partnerships between The Intrepid Foundation and various conservation organizations around the world.

How we help

We actively discourage the participation of travelers in any activities that exploit wild or domestic/working animals. Lately, there’s been a rise in animal-related incidents around the world, and it doesn’t sit well with us. That’s why we have this toolkit in conjunction with World Animal Protection, with the hope that it will help the tourism industry rebuild more ethically during the COVID-caused travel shutdowns.

Park & conservation fees

Did you know a portion of all national park fees (included in your trip price) go back into the conservation for the parks? In some countries, this can be a considerable amount and goes towards park upkeep, wildlife rehabilitation and protection, and funding for park rangers.

Become a Citizen Scientist

Contribute in a very real way on your trip to Antarctica by undertaking scientific studies, recording cloud cover with NASA, participating in the ‘Happy Whale’ initiative (taking photos of whales’ flukes and uploading them to a special database), and conducting seabird surveys.

Our WWF partnership

Embark on an Antarctic adventure with WWF , a conservation organization working to protect endangered habitats and stop climate change, and learn about their non-invasive whale research project from onboard scientists.

Giving back

Our wildlife trips are specifically designed to include local communities, businesses and NGOs that are working to support the conservation of wildlife, or the people protecting the wild.

Meet the experts

Man in a red jacket leaning up against an icy ledge

Alex - Antarctica Expedition Leader

Alex has long held a fascination with the natural world and polar regions. A graduate of Cambridge in Natural Sciences, Alex had been a polar guide for over a decade and is the co-founder of the Polar Citizen Science Collective, an organisation devoted to harnessing the research and data collection power of polar tourism. When not on a ship he can usually be found with skis or sticky rubber on his feet.

Man looking at the camera and smiling with lush greenery in the background.

Twongyeirwe - Head Ranger (Uganda)

Growing up in a family with a conservation background, Twongyeirwe quickly developed a dream of becoming a wildlife ranger, working with mountain gorillas in the forests of Uganda. He's been living that dream for 16 years (and counting), learning about gorilla behaviours, tracking their movements and passing on that knowledge to passionate travellers just as awestruck by the majesty of these animals as he is.

Woman crouching on the ground and smiling at the camera

Jessica - Naturalist Guide (Galapagos Islands)

Jessica grew up surrounded by sea lions, sea turtles, iguanas, amazing landscapes, and friendly people on the Galapagos Islands so it's no surprise she turned to a career teaching people about the diversity, endemism, and the marine life of the region she's loved since she was little. When she's not working, you can find her scuba diving, snorkelling and exploring as much of this magical Ecuadorian world as possible.

Woman wearing a white jacket staring off into the distance

Eva – Citizen Science Coordinator (Polar)

Eva is a polar scientist, with a particular passion for marine mammals. Her love for whales led to her graduating at the top of her class with a Master's in Polar Science from the Scott Polar Research Institute at the University of Cambridge. Researcher, Naturalist, Photographer, Educator, Surveyor, Skipper and Wildlife Officer, Eva has travelled extensively throughout all 7 continents, but her heart remains in the polar regions.

Wildlife FAQs

Do i need a covid-19 vaccine to join a wildlife trip.

Trips on or before 31 December 2022

If your Intrepid trip starts on or before 31 December 2022, you must provide proof of full vaccination against COVID-19.

If you are unable to be vaccinated for medical reasons, you may apply for an exemption. Exemptions will be assessed on a case-by-case basis. To apply, you must provide a medical certificate from a medical professional.

Children under 18 are exempt. Children aged between 5 and 17 years old must provide proof of either vaccination, recovery or a negative COVID-19 test.

Trips from 1 January 2023 onwards

From 1 January 2023, Intrepid will no longer require travellers to provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19 (excluding all Polar trips and select adventure cruises). However, we continue to strongly recommend that all Intrepid travellers and leaders get vaccinated to protect themselves and others.

Specific proof of testing or vaccination may still be required by your destination or airline. Please ensure you check travel and entry requirements carefully.

How safe are wildlife tours?

At Intrepid, the welfare of our people and our travellers is our highest priority, and we never put tours in a potentially harmful or dangerous position. To ensure that all travellers are safe while trekking or visiting wildlife conservation areas, there are a set of rules and regulations that everyone must observe at all times, which you'll be briefed on when necessary. Both your leader and the professional wildlife expert that accompanies you on specific activities such as gorilla trekking, will be happy to answer any questions you might have and make sure everyone's obeying safety precautions.

Do I have to be fit to join a wildlife tour?

Our wildlife tours range from having a lower physical rating (2 out of 5 stars) to a higher physical rating (3 out of 5 stars) which indicates that you should have a reasonable level of fitness to be comfortable throughout your trip. Most wildlife trips visit at least one national park so you can expect to participate in a couple of walks or longer hikes.

Am I guaranteed to see gorillas on my trek?

Animal movements can be unpredictable so we can't 100% guarantee that you'll see gorillas on your trek. Having said that, it's highly unlikely not to. You will be accompanied by a gorilla tracker on your trek and they'll have specific knowledge on how to find the gorillas and where they might be so you don't have to worry about a thing.

What’s the difference between trekking gorillas in Uganda and trekking in Rwanda?

There's not a huge difference between gorilla trekking in Uganda and Rwanda when it comes to actually seeing the animals, but the terrain of both countries varies. Rwanda's Volcanoes National Park has a more open and less dense landscape than the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in Uganda so it can often feel easier to trek through. Uganda also experiences more rain and this can make tracks slippery and harder to navigate. Another difference is that the permit for gorilla trekking in Rwanda is more expensive than in Uganda and this can deter budget-conscious travellers.

What vehicles do you use for Game Drives in Sub Saharan Africa?

The type of vehicles you'll travel on during your Game Drive is dependent on the style of your trip (basix, original, comfort, or premium) but all trips will use a 4x4 or alternate vehicle for at least one of those rides so you have the best opportunity to experience the wildlife from a unique perspective. If you want more details, check out the trip notes/itinerary information for your chosen trip.

When travelling on an Intrepid wildlife trip, how does my money support local conservation efforts?

Regardless of the style, every single one of our wildlife trips directly supports the conservation of wildlife or the people protecting the wildlife. A portion of any National Park or Game Reserve entrance fee (which is included in your trip price) is also fed back into protecting and conserving the park's natural and cultural heritage.  This money is crucial to safeguarding these habitats for wildlife to breed and survive together with its surrounding local communities. Our wildlife trips are also designed to seek out and support local projects, communities, and businesses that are actively working to protect wildlife, and educate and empower local communities to be custodians of conservation.

Will I get the opportunity for a range of different wildlife experiences on my trip?

Absolutely! Our trips feature a whole heap of fun activities such as Game drives, nature walks, and boat safaris, as well as unique experiences such as visiting a Wildlife Forensic Laboratory in Zimbabwe (which is exactly what it sounds like - a unit investigating wildlife crimes) and sitting down to dinner with a local park ranger where you'll learn about life in the wilderness and their special relationships with the mountain gorillas (guaranteed to be one dinner conversation you've never had before)!

Will I get the chance to learn from a local wildlife expert during my trip?

You'll have access to your trip leader who already has an impressive base of knowledge about the countries visited in the itinerary, and the local flora, fauna, cultural, religious, and social aspects associated with them but we also use additional local guides and wildlife experts who have a deeper and more specific knowledge about the places you go to and the animals you see. This is to add to your overall experience and make sure you're getting the full, well-rounded picture so expect to spend some time with wildlife veterinarians, park rangers, naturalist guides, and conservation researchers. For some trips, you will be accompanied by these experts for the entire duration, such as on our Antarctica departures where there's a naturalist and marine biologist onboard.

Which islands should I visit in the Galapagos to see the wildlife?

There's a good chance you'll see a wide variety of animals on any Galapagos Island since there are over 300+ different species that inhabit this archipelago. It's the sheer diversity and variety of life on land, in the air and under the water that makes the Galapagos such a drawcard for nature and wildlife lovers and each trip will give you the opportunity to experience as much of it as possible.

See below for some of the animals known to frequent the Galapagos Islands:

  • Sea lions are found across all islands.
  • Penguins are found across Santa Cruz, Santiago, Isabela, Fernandina, Floreana, and Bartolome islands.
  • Giant tortoises are found across Santa Cruz, San Cristobal, Isabela, and Floreana islands.
  • Green sea turtles are found across all islands.
  • Land iguanas are found across Santa Cruz, Isabela, Fernandina, Plaza Sur, and North Seymour islands.
  • Flamingoes are found across Santa Cruz, Santiago, Isabela, Floreana, and Rabida islands.

Do I need travel insurance to join a wildlife tour?

Absolutely. All passengers travelling with Intrepid are required to purchase travel insurance before the start of their trip. Your travel insurance details will be recorded by your leader on the first day of the trip. Due to the varying nature, availability and cost of health care around the world, travel insurance is very much an essential and necessary part of every journey.

For more information on insurance, please go to:  Travel Insurance

Are Intrepid's wildlife trips accessible for travellers with disabilities?

Intrepid is committed to making travel widely  accessible , regardless of ability or disability. That’s why we do our best to help as many people see the world as possible, regardless of any physical or mental limitations they might have. However, we’re always happy to talk to travellers with disabilities and see if we can help guide them towards the most suitable itinerary for their needs and where possible, make reasonable adjustments to our itineraries.

The 20 Best Wildlife Parks & Wildlife Tours in the World

Ecotourism Destination - North America

Disclaimer: This post may contain affiliate links. All hosted affiliate links follow our editorial policies .

Global interest in nature-based tourism, which includes wildlife tourism, has grown rapidly over the last decade.

At the same time, wildlife has become increasingly under threat from issues such as habitat loss, poaching, and a lack of funding for conservation.

Richard Damania, lead economist for the World Bank , succinctly explains the intrinsic connection between economy and ecology in tourism destinations: “Provide jobs and (you’ll) save the environment.”

But of course it’s not quite that simple, as a National Geographic cover story on the dark truth behind wildlife tourism illustrated.

When managed irresponsibly, wildlife attractions may involve abuse, exploitation, drugged animals, and even death. And unless visitors are well-informed about these issues, they’d probably never know the difference.

Fortunately, there are hundreds (if not thousands) of examples of wildlife tourism attractions that get it right.

These sustainably-run operations have led to improved well-being for the animals, increased investments in protected areas and reserves, a reduction in poaching, and increased benefits for local communities in the form of jobs, co-management of resources, and revenue-sharing.

Here’s a look at 20 of the world’s best wildlife parks , as well as wildlife tours specifically designed for animal lovers.

WILDLIFE PARKS IN AFRICA

Etosha National Park Namibia - Famous national parks in the world

1. ETOSHA NATIONAL PARK (Namibia)

The utterly unique wildlife park encompasses 8,600 square miles of expansive desert landscapes .

At the heart of Etosha National Park are its expansive salt pans. In the wet season they fill with water and attract a bevy of beautiful birds , while in the dry season they blow saline dust out towards the Atlantic Ocean.

The otherworldly park is also home to lots of big game animals, including giraffes , lions, black and white rhinos, and endemic mountain zebras, as well as a wide variety of birds.

Many Namibia wildlife tours include visiting Etosha National Park , looking for desert elephants in Skeleton Coast National Park, seeing the massive Cape fur seal colonies at Swakomund, and much more.

Lioness Devouring Buffalo in Kruger National Park - Best Wildlife Parks in the World

2. KRUGER NATIONAL PARK (South Africa)

Covering more than 7,500 square miles in the eastern part of South Africa , Kruger National Park ranks alongside Etosha among the largest wildlife reserves in all of Africa.

Established in 1926, it’s South Africa’s oldest national park and part of a protected UNESCO Biosphere Reserve .

Although the region has been struggling to deal with the rise in poaching of elephants, rhinos, and other animals for the illegal wildlife trade over the past decade, Kruger National Park remains a remarkable place.

The park is home to an exceptional range of wildlife, including 517 bird species, 147 species of large mammals, 114 reptile species, and rare, endangered wildlife including black rhinos and the gorgeous African wild dog (a.k.a. painted dog).

Cheetahs with Gazelle Kill in Ol Kinyei Conservancy - Best Wildlife Tours in the World

3. MASAI MARA NATIONAL RESERVE (Kenya)

The Masai Mara should need no introduction as the northern stop of Africa’s Great Migration of wildebeest, zebras, and other ungulates, which is arguably one of the world’s greatest wonders for wildlife lovers.

But the 583-square-mile reserve is just part of the Greater Mara Ecosystem, which also includes numerous Maasai-owned wildlife conservancies .

The area is home to 25% of Kenya’s wildlife , including an incredible population of Big Cats (cheetahs, lions , and leopards), as well as their prey (gazelles, impala, wildebeest, etc).

Eco-tour operators like Gamewatchers Safaris  and the Elewana Collection offer an exceptional opportunity to explore the area in depth, covering much of the same epic journey the migration follows each year.

4. OKAVANGO DELTA (Botswana)

One of the newer UNESCO sites on this list, Botswana’s Okavango Delta earned World Heritage Site status in 2014 for its incredibly diverse wildlife and expansive wetlands ecosystem.

Spreading across 5791 square miles, the region’s vast network of canals and swamps are best explored via traditional canoes , which are known as mokoro .

In the winter, the water draws some 200,000 large mammals (cheetahs, lions, elephants, rhinos, etc.) and 400+ bird species to the area. Thanks to Botswana’s anti-poaching measures, the number of animals here is growing.

Luxury Botswana safaris (such as those offered by Great Plains Conservation ) offer guests an exclusive experience exploring different regions of this fertile landscape, including areas rarely visited by most wildlife tours of the Okavango.

Baby Zebra in Serengeti National Park, Tanzania

5. SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK (Tanzania)

The southern starting point for the annual Great Migration from Tanzania to Kenya in search of water and fresh grass, this 5,700-square mile UNESCO World Heritage Site was named after the Maasai word for “the place where the land runs on forever.”

It’s an apt moniker, and the Serengeti’s seemingly endless grasslands, riverine forest, bushy savanna, and open woodlands are home to a staggering array of wildlife (not to mention the welcoming Maasai people ).

In just a few days of exploring the area, you can see lots of lions, elephants, giraffes, Nile crocodiles, colobus monkeys, and huge herds of wildebeest, zebras, gazelles, and buffalo crowding the plains.

Numerous tour operators offer immersive excursions that explore this excellent East African wildlife park in depth.

Mountain Gorilla Diet

6. VOLCANOES NATIONAL PARK (Rwanda)

Made famous by primatologist Diane Fossey ’s groundbreaking work with mountain gorillas back in the 1970s and ‘80s, Volcanoes was the first national park on the african continent.

The park is home to five of the eight volcanoes in the Virunga Mountain range, with up to 80 tourists a day paying for pricey permits to spend an incredible hour with one of the 10 habituated gorilla families that make their home here.

The park also offers treks to see habituated groups of endangered golden monkeys, visit Fossey’s grave, and climb Bisoke (a one-day tour) or Karisimbi Volcano (a 2-day trek with overnight camping ) .

We also recommend a visit to Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village , which provides alternative employment opportunities for former poachers and their families. It’s a model for community-based conservation.

Ecotourism Destination - Antarctica

7. WILDLIFE PARKS IN ANTARCTICA

Ok, so technically there are no national parks in Antarctica .

But because the entire continent is protected by the Antarctic Treaty System, the coldest, driest, and windiest place on the planet is basically like one giant wildlife reserve. And small ship cruises are a great way to explore it.

The best Antarctic wildlife tours include plenty of Adelie, chinstrap, and gentoo penguins on the Antarctic mainland; Magellanic and rockhopper penguins in the Falkland Islands; and vast colonies of king and macaroni penguins (not to mention elephant and fur seals) on South Georgia Island.

Of course, there will also be plenty of whales , seals, and other wildlife sightings during your time at sea as well!

BANDHAVGARH NATIONAL PARK - Best National Parks in the World for Tiger Viewing

8. BANDHAVGARH NATIONAL PARK (India)

Located in Madhya Pradesh, the 431-square-mile Bandhavgarh National Park & Tiger Reserve boasts one of the highest densities of Bengal tigers in the world.

Thanks to conservation initiatives here and at tiger reserves such as Kanha and Kaziranga National Parks, the Bengal tiger is one of the few endangered species whose population is growing.

But the fearsome cat is hardly this wildlife park’s only attraction: There are also 36 other species of mammals (including leopards, Asian elephants, and nilgai, or “blue bulls”), more than 250 species of birds, and around 80 species of butterflies.

There are three zones in this former maharaja’s hunting grounds that are open to tourists: The Tala zone is considered the best for tigers and also the most photogenic, while Khitauli is great for birdwatching .

9. KOMODO NATIONAL PARK (Indonesia)

There are less than 5,000 Komodo dragons left in the world, and most of them are found on two small islands in Indonesia , Komodo Island and Rinca Island.

Along with Padar and 26 smaller islands, this entire archipelago has been protected since 1980 as Komodo National Park .

Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1991, the park was originally designed to protect the world’s largest lizard, which can grow up to 10 feet long.

But it’s also home to remarkable marine life, including whale sharks , manta rays, eagle rays, blue-ringed octopus, and quite a few cetaceans (including dolphins, blue whales, and sperm whales).

Small ship expedition cruises give guests chances to dive and/or snorkel this ecotourism hotspot in the Palawan province, where they may see some of the reef’s 600 fish species, 13 species of cetaceans, 11 types of sharks, and several species of sea turtles.

11.YALA NATIONAL PARK (Sri Lanka)

Sri Lanka may not be nearly as well known as neighboring India in terms of tourism, but in the last few years its number of international visitors has been gradually on the rise.

The island nation’s oldest and most renowned national park is also home to the greatest concentration of Sri Lanka wildlife , including leopards, Sri Lankan elephants, sloth bears, jackals, buffalo, crocodiles, and monkeys.

The uncrowded wildlife park also boasts over 150 bird species, and the adjacent Yala East (a.k.a. Kumana National Park) is a notorious nesting site for waterbirds.

Yala is a huge factor in the recent rise of Sri Lanka ecotourism , with an array of incredible natural wonders you won’t see anywhere else in the country.

The Australian National Park ’s reefs are currently being threatened by climate change, with ocean acidification leading to increased coral bleaching. But some cruises take guests to its most pristine places, including Osprey Reef and Lizard Island.

Denali National Park Road

15. DENALI NATIONAL PARK (USA)

If you’re interested in wildlife tours, central Alaska’s Denali National Park is arguably the best place in the USA to take one.

With six million acres of pristine wilderness and just one 92-mile road through it (which is only open to private vehicles four days a year), Denali is about as wild as national parks get.

The shuttle bus drivers double as engaging naturalist guides, allowing visitors to sit back, relax, and drop their jaws at the stunning scenery and– if you’re lucky– breathtaking views of the massive mountain for which the park is named.

The prodigious wildlife here includes lots of grizzly bears, moose, caribou, bald eagles, and even wolves. So if you’re planning on hiking or camping here, make sure to familiarize yourself with backcountry safety.

Bison Herds in Yellowstone National Park

16. YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK (USA)

If Alaska’s a bit too remote for your budget, the world’s first national park is the next best thing.

Yellowstone National Park has been in the news often in recent years due to overtourism and the misbehavior of some irresponsible visitors .

But don’t let a few bad apples spoil your enjoyment of the inherent beauty of its natural attractions, including Mammoth Hot Springs, Lamar Valley, the Upper & Lower Geyser Basin, and Grand Prismatic Spring.

Though traffic can be frustrating in peak summer, the shoulder seasons are great for spotting wildlife such as bald eagles, bighorn sheep, bison, elk, grizzly bears, wolves, and much more.

If you want to explore Yellowstone with almost no other tourists, visit in winter, when everything is blanketed in white.

20. TORRES DEL PAINE NATIONAL PARK (Chile)

Part of the National System of Protected Forested Areas of Chile, this gem of Patagonia  is among the country’s largest (around 935 square miles) and most popular wildlife parks.

In terms of attractions, Torres del Paine National Park has plenty, from the archaeological history of the Milodon Caves and ancient wall art along the Fauna Trail to the expansive Grey Glacier, part of the Southern Patagonian Ice Field (the world’s second largest contiguous ice field outside of the poles).

There’s plenty of wildlife, such as foxes, huemul deer, guanacos, pumas, and the massive Andean Condor.

Exclusive Wildlife Activities

wild life tour

Deep Jungle Camping in Kaeng Krachan

Our base camp is the ideal spot to see langurs, serows and other wildlife. Each day we'll choose from a variety of hikes, including the road to Mt. Pakarang, a trail to the beautiful Hanuman cave, a spectacular waterfall, and a salt lick basin, a hot spot for wild elephants. Animal tracks are everywhere! We've even spotted wild tiger tracks and "sandboxes"! We'll also hike to a calm, secluded stream, where wild animals come to drink.

Other Activities

wild life tour

Play with Friendly Elephants & Bathe Them in a River

Spend an amazing day feeding, bathing and learning about elephants at an eco-responsible elephant camp. Play with them in the river and then float downstream on a bamboo raft. You will not believe how much fun this experience is, and how much it will open your heart to learn about these incredibly social animals!

Hiking, Birdwatching & Wildlife Viewing in 4 National Parks

Our hiking philosophy is simple: "The slower you go, the more wildlife you see." Most of our hikes last anywhere from 2 to 4 hours and the pace is a relaxed meander with frequent stops to observe nature and wildlife. We may even spend intimate time with a troop of wild monkeys, especially if we observe exciting behaviors such as teaching a newborn to walk, a conflict involving an alpha male, or anything else that has what we call a high "wow" factor.

Island Snorkeling in Crystal-Clear Azure Blue Water

Boat to beautiful Ko Lipe Island or Ko Phi Phi Island for snorkeling, kayaking and relaxing on the beach. Thailand's famous shallow turquoise waters are perfect to explore the kaleidoscope of colorful coral reefs.

Cooking School

Enjoy a phenomenal cooking class, led by a world-renowned professional Thai chef who will teach you to prepare tasty Thai dishes.

Chiang Mai Cloudforest, Buddhist Temple & Waterfalls (Alternative)

Beautiful Asian orchids adorn its cloudforest ad Gibbons, deer and Siamese Hares are sometimes seen. Then visit Doi Suthep, a Buddhist temple that is a landmark of Chiang Mai and nearby waterfalls.

Thailand FAQ

Thailand facts for visitors.

wild life tour

His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej is the longest reigning monarch in the world, having celebrated his 67th year of reign in 2013. He and the rest of the Royal Family are greatly revered by the Thai people.

Thailand is one of the most strongly Buddhist countries in the world with more than 90% of Thais practicing Theravada Buddhism. There are many other faiths in Thailand, all of which are allowed full freedom of expression. The temple (wat) is very important in Thai society and is the heart of social and religious life. Monks are highly revered.

Thailand has a growing population of about 55 million and 10% is flooded in the capital of Bangkok. It is basically an agricultural country and about 75% of the people work in the fields. Those living near the coastal zones are engaged in commercial fishing and marine farming from fish and prawns to oysters. The other 25% work in the cities. Assimilation of other races from Burma, Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam in the early past was inevitable, being sandwiched in the middle of these countries. It is the tolerant nature of the Thais, which largely account for the large groups from neighboring countries who have now become Thai citizens. Besides its neighbors early immigrants come from as far as India, China, Malaysia and even European countries. These groups thus account for 20% of the population amongst 80% of ethnic Thais. The ethnic composition is as diverse as Thailand's attractions, especially so among tourist belts and coastal regions. The hill-tribes form a very interesting group in the northern highlands. History links them as far as China and Mongolia and some of them have fair skin and slanted light brown eyes. There are about 400,000 hill tribes living in the north, with their own language and culture - truly an enriching experience when visiting their homesteads. They are the Karen, Lahus, Yao, Akha, Lisu and Meo. The last hill tribes are more exposed to the commercial world and could be seen even in Bangkok and other provinces selling their handicraft. (Handicrafts purchased at their villages have a better chance to be authentic, as duplicates have been manufactured.)

Thai is the official and national language in Thailand used at all levels of administration in government and other commercial offices. However, English is the second language and is widely used in the cities and tourist related industry. Other European languages are used in hotels or restaurants where a particular group is predominant.

The unit of currency is the Thai baht. 1 baht is divided into 100 satang. At the time of writing, in the previous three years there were approximately 30-34 baht to the dollar. Please check the current exchange rate. Notes are in denominations of 1000 (brown), 500 (purple), 100 (red), 20 (green) and 10 (brown) baht. Coins come as 25 satang, 50 satang, 1 baht, 5 baht and 10 baht. Major currency bills and travelers checks can be cashed easily at hotels, tourist shops, banks and money-changers.

Voltage & Outlets

Electricity can vary by location in Thailand but is usually 220 volts, 50 cycles/sec, with Type A or Type C outlets. You will need to bring a converter for any appliances you plan to use that can't handle the higher voltage. Additionally, you will need a plug adapter that fit the specific plug types mentioned above. Please note that power points installed in bathrooms are meant for shavers only.

Most places in Thailand are humid and warm as it is in the tropics, except for the highlands in northern regions. As a general guideline, the hot season is from late March to June, rainy months being July to October and February. For Chiang Mai and further north, bring along windbreakers and pullovers as the evening temperatures drop quite a bit.

BrushBuck Wildlife Tours

wild life tour

Amber grew up in Southeast Arizona where she developed a lifelong love for the outdoors, wildlife, and travel.  She spent nine years serving in the United States Navy before starting BrushBuck Wildlife Tours with her brother, Adam, and her husband, Ezra.  She guided the 2006 and 2007 seasons and now manages the BrushBuck sales team.  Amber tries to spend every spare second with her two boys Jacob and Luke, and her husband, Ezra. She is an avid artisan who enjoys painting, inventing, and crafting.

Adam Lacker, BrushBuck Tours Founder

After serving 4 years in the Marines Adam headed off to guide in the backcountry of Alaska, Montana, Idaho, and Arizona. As the company developed he has now guided wildlife tours in South Africa, Botswana, Kenya and Tanzania. Adam enjoys floating the rivers and camping with his family, teaching upcoming guides for BrushBuck along with hunting, fishing, and working on the family cattle ranch. Building BrushBuck Wildlife Tours up with his partners and staff has been one of the most rewarding things on this journey we call “life”!

wild life tour

Ezra grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and joined the U.S. Navy shortly after completion of high school. After a five year enlistment in which he served aboard USS Tarawa (LHA-1), he found his way to Jackson Hole with his wife and two children in 2006. He has guided for elk and mule deer in the East Fork Bitteroot Range of Montana, The Sangre De Cristo’s in central Colorado, and can often be found at the nearest fishing hole in the summer and the skiing the backcountry or playing pickup hockey in the winter!

wild life tour

Sue is “retired” and busier than she ever was during her career! When not running operations at BrushBuck Wildlife Tours, she is either out photographing wildlife or volunteering at Teton Raptor Center. Originally from the Chicago area, Sue imprinted on the Tetons as a 3 year old and finally moved to Jackson in 2013 after spending 21 years in Alaska. Sue loves working for BrushBuck!! “Through our great work ethic, the team at BrushBuck gives 150% to ensure our guests have the tour of a lifetime and I’m just a small part of that. We consider ourselves family and I’m very proud of our guides for their interpretive skills and the entertaining stories they provide. There are no bad days at BrushBuck”!

Andrew McRae

Andrew grew up in western Pennsylvania on a Christmas tree farm an hour and a half north of Pittsburgh. While pursuing an environmental studies degree from the University of Pittsburgh, he fell in love with Yellowstone National Park while taking a course there. After college Andrew worked as a tour guide throughout the south west during the summer, while spending winters in Colorado snowboarding. The past two summers he has been living in a rainforest in Alaska, but has decided to head back south this year.

Brush Buck provides Andrew with a chance to spend the summer working with wildlife. While getting a chance to explore and live in an area he’s only been able to visit numerous times.

Cade Castle

Cade’s passion for wildlife and wild places began as a kid on a family vacation to Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks. He grew up in the Central Valley of California exploring, hiking and camping in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. He worked for five summers as a photographer for the Sequoia Parks Conservancy in Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks and volunteered with the park bear technicians monitoring black bear populations and educating the public on bear safety.

Upon graduating college from Fresno State University, Cade moved to the Greater Yellowstone area to guide for Brushbuck and share his passion for wildlife and the outdoors with others in the very place that inspired him 15 years ago.

Daniel Bradford

Daniel is originally from Colorado Springs and that is where he became hooked on the Mountains. He has always loved the outdoors and it drove him to pursue a degree in Wildlife Biology and Management from the University of Wyoming. After visiting Yellowstone and Grand Teton with his family, he knew that this is where he wanted to be. Getting the opportunity to hike and explore Jackson Hole is a dream come true. Daniel is grateful for the opportunity to help people see wildlife while also being a member of the Idaho National Guard!

Gannon Castle

Growing up in Central California, Gannon spent his summers exploring the Sierra Nevada. At a young age he visited Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons with his family and fell in love with the vast landscape and its wild creatures. His passion for stories of the wild and conservation inspired him to study history at the University of California, Berkeley. Gannon spends his free time photographing, fly fishing, hiking, hanging out with friends and family, and his favorite thing of all—simply being outdoors watching wildlife. Some of his past work experience includes coaching sports and teaching ESL, as well as naturalist work in Sequoia National Park and the National Elk Refuge. Gannon’s feels incredibly fortunate to work for Brushbuck because it allows him to share the wonders of the Greater Yellowstone region and its wildlife with others.

Haeli Templeton

Haeli originally hails from Georgia. She worked for several years as a librarian but feels that education, especially in the spectacular setting of Yellowstone, is a far better way to spend her days. She now works as a wildlife guide in the summer and spends her winters showing guests the splendor of Yellowstone from the back of a snowmobile. Summer or winter, there is no place on earth more inspiring and she loves proving that to the guests on her tours.

Kaya Miller

Kaya’s love for the outdoors started at age 8 when her family took a summer to travel through several national parks in their ‘69 Volkswagen bus, only getting stuck a couple of times along the way. She’s lived in Nebraska for most of her life, where she graduated with her BS in Biology from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Kaya is excited to call Jackson her home this season and can’t wait to use her background to educate others on the diverse ecosystem the area has to offer. In her free time Kaya enjoys finding new music, practicing yoga, and cooking up some wholesome vegetarian meals.

Kenny Barr

Kenny is an outdoor enthusiast originally from Ohio. Working as a seasonal guide, Kenny has had a chance to work all over the country from Vermont to Alaska working as a climbing guide, ski instructor, glacier dog sled guide and more! He enjoys the chance to educate people and hopes to show people life changing experiences!

He’s made Jackson his home for the past few years and loves every minute!

Kevin Millard

Kevin’s roots go deep here.  His mother was an enrolled member of the Eastern Shoshone Tribe, a group which has lived in these mountains for thousands of years.   His father’s family was among the first settlers in central Wyoming.  Kevin was able to spend his early years ranching, hiking, camping and exploring the Wind River Reservation, developing a life-long appreciation and respect for the land, its history, and its people.   Kevin completed his degree at the University of Wyoming and spent many years ranching in the Wind River valley.  Later,  he was an owner of the Elephant Head Lodge near Yellowstone’s east entrance.  He is a skilled craft artist, concentrating his work in authentic reproductions of beadwork and ancient tools.

He enjoys sharing his lifetime of knowledge and experience in the greater Yellowstone ecosystem with Brushbuck’s guests.

Kyle Boese

Mark first visited Jackson Hole when he was 3 years old and returned several times with his family over the years. After finishing college in Ohio he moved to Wyoming in 1994 to pursue his love of the rivers, mountains, open spaces, and wilderness that he fell in love with as a child. He has worked as a river guide, nordic ski coach, fisheries technician, adaptive ski instructor, science teacher, and as a wilderness guide and counselor at a treatment center for troubled youth.

Most recently and for the last 10 seasons Mark directed a children’s camp teaching place based education and introducing children to the incredible history, geology, ecology, and biology of the Jackson Hole Valley. He wishes to pass his knowledge of this amazing ecosystem on to others so they may appreciate Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks for the awe these parks have instilled upon him.

When not guiding trips Mark most enjoys adventure, exploring, traveling, and spending time with his two daughters.

Mike Crocker

For 30 years Mike has lived, worked, played, and raised a family in the Northwest corner of Wyoming. His passion for the outdoors has taken him to many of it’s wild and remote regions. As a guide, Mike takes his job seriously and appreciates the opportunity to share his knowledge of this area and its history with travelers to this region. In his own words: “Having the chance to share and experience this area with visitors who don’t have the privilege to call it home, is what I love most about my work here at Brushbuck  Wildlife Tours.”

Neil Moore

Neil grew up in San Francisco, CA. His interest in the outdoors grew from surfing, rock climbing, and working on a search and rescue team. He found his home in the Rockies when he moved to Montana to obtain his wildlife biology degree. From polar bears and mountain lions to moose and mule deer, Neil worked on a variety of wildlife research projects before moving to Jackson. On the side he guided backpacking and rock climbing trips around the west and that’s where his passion for guiding began.

BrushBuck offered the perfect combination for his passions of guiding and wildlife. He started working for BrushBuck in 2016 and has been with us for four years.

Sarah Fisher

Sarah is a retired teacher from Michigan who swears she is living the dream as Jackson is now called home. With a love for teaching, wildlife, nature, hiking,  and the history of the west she claims this is the perfect job.  Sarah especially enjoys guiding for BrushBuck when she sees the look of awe on the  face of a visitor as they experience Yellowstone, The Tetons or view a wild Grizzly for the first time.

wild life tour

Steve joined Brushbuck in the winter of 2o17/2018, coming over from Kona, Hawaii. Previously, he has worked upon the oceans of the Atlantic, Pacific, and the Bering Sea for 40 years, and has been a boat captain for 36 of those. He has called the Rocky Mountains, and the Sierra range his home since 14 years of age. His hobbies are skiing, deep-sea diving, fishing, and hiking in the mountains.

The absolute favorite part of his job here at Brushbuck is seeing the faces of our guests, as they experience the wildlife and our beautiful area for the first time. “It’s as if every day is a brand new IMAX of life! Every tour is it’s own new and unique adventure!”

wild life tour

Fredrick the dog began his life in the wilds of urban Eastern Idaho.  Although he has short legs, he has been able to accomplish tall feats.  He successfully navigated the Teton River and has explored the wilderness of the Tetons and Big Hole Mountain Range countless times.  He has adventured to the rugged coastline of the western United States, and narrowly escaped the rip-tides of the Pacific Ocean shallows (due largely to his short stature).  Fredrick is the consummate outdoor “dog”.  He enjoys long walks and back-country hikes with his family, chasing cats, and protecting his flock of chickens.  He considers himself a “foodie”, preferring Mexican cuisine above all others.

Fredrick enjoys working for BrushBuck because he can offer his insight into the animal kingdom.

“Franks”

Frankie began her life in the desert landscape of Arizona.  She has traveled to many American regions.  One of the more interesting travel stories you may hear from Frankie is how she lost her eye whilst defending her honor and her country in a sword battle with a mongoose in Spain.  She was winning the battle until a swallow flew overhead and dropped a coconut on her eyeball.  She bravely declared, “It is merely a flesh wound!”  She cornered her weaselly foe and won the battle and lives to tell the story today.  She is not sure if it was an African swallow or a European swallow.

Known by her friends as “Franks,” she enjoys winter sledding and fiercely protecting her human family from dangers such as moose and bears.

Frankie loves working at BrushBuck because it helps her remember her glory days of exploring the world and keeping others safe in nature.

wild life tour

Tucker is the quintessential “outdoor dog”.  Hailing from Idaho, Tucker enjoys the pursuit of both waterfowl and upland game birds, or any round spherical object.  He has never met a body of water he doesn’t enjoy.  His favorite cuisine is Barbie doll heads and horse manure, but he has been known to dine on the occasional steak (stolen off a nearby grill).  He considers himself a connoisseur of outdoor activities available in the Jackson Hole area, including snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, recreational swimming, river rafting, and fishing.

Tucker is thankful for the opportunity to represent BrushBuck due to the attunement he feels when connecting humans to nature.

wild life tour

Kuro, the office feline, is a local girl.  She enjoys resident bird life, resting for long periods of time between naps, and passing silent judgement upon her co-workers.

Presently, Kuro is living out the first of her nine lives.  She plans to spend at least one of those future lives attempting a climb to the heights of Mt. Everest, starting from Kathmandu, but is still working hard at BrushBuck to save up enough money to make the trip to Nepal.  She manages to sleep through her entire workday, and still has not been fired.

When asked what she loves most about working for BrushBuck Wildlife Tours, her answer was, “It’s easy to work here when you’re as beautiful as I am.”

‘ghost town’ walking tour focuses on state park’s past.

HUNTINGDON — Long before the modern state park system was established — back in the early 1800s — Pennsylvania was a barren wasteland, void of trees and wildlife.

Furnaces and iron works popped up all over the Commonwealth, including those at Greenwood Works at what eventually became Greenwood Furnace State Park in Huntingdon. If you look closely, you can still find some of these remnants in the present day.

The furnace has not been forgotten. Former Greenwood Furnace intern Lily Guyer-Wright will lead a historical walking tour of the park called “Ghost Town” at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 27.

During the tour, Guyer-Wright will talk about the village built around an inferno, including what happened when the furnace fell silent, and Greenwood turned into a ghost town overnight.

“She led this program last year and participants really enjoyed the ghost stories that Lily incorporated into he walk,” Greenwood Furnace State Park Environmental Education Special Jen Moore said. “This will be the last chance for visitors to catch a historical walking tour with a ghost spin on it as Lily is moving to another state.”

The night walk will be mostly flat around the historic district, including the cemetery.

“Participants will gain a different perspective of the park, at night while listening to stories of the residents that used to call Greenwood home,” Moore added of the park, located at 15795 Greenwood Road.

Attendees should meet at the Blacksmith Shop. No registration is required, and the program will be held rain or shine. Admission to the event is free and it’s open to all ages. Attendees are encouraged to dress for the weather and bring a flashlight.

The rental market in 2024 is a wild ride, with some states offering sky-high prices that could make your wallet weep, while others offer a more gentle hit to your budget. Whether you’re planning to move or just curious, let’s take a scenic tour through the states with the steepest and most modest rents. Remember, the right destination could be a ticket to saving big or indulging in your dream location!

To guide this exploration, we’ve relied on comprehensive data sourced from the World Population Review , detailing average rent by state in 2024. This peek into the rental scene across the country gives us a clear picture of where things stand. Remember, though, everyone’s situation is unique, and what you find on the market can vary.

<p>Known as the ‘Forbidden Island,’ Niihau is privately owned and access is restricted to preserve the traditional way of life of its Native Hawaiian inhabitants.</p>

Say aloha to breathtaking views and eye-watering rents! Hawaii leads the pack with an average rent of $2,399 a month. If you’re eyeing a new lease here, brace yourself for asking prices around $2,850. With its paradise-like allure, Hawaii demands a premium for living the dream amidst its natural beauty and aloha spirit. High rents are a small price for the luxury of waking up to the Pacific Ocean’s serene views and experiencing endless summer vibes year-round.

<p><strong>City of Angels and Tolerance</strong><br>Los Angeles stands out as a tolerant city, with only 15 percent opposition to non-discrimination laws. The city’s acceptance and diverse culture make it a welcoming place for the LGBTQ community.</p>

The Golden State shines bright with an average rent of $1,844, making it the land of golden opportunities and equally golden rental rates. California’s bustling cities and stunning landscapes come with a hefty price tag, especially in tech meccas and coastal paradises. If you’re considering a move, be prepared for vacant units asking around $3,000 a month. From the Hollywood hills to Silicon Valley’s innovation hubs, California’s diverse regions offer something for every dreamer, albeit with a premium on living spaces.

<p>The intensification of the Gaetz probe follows the expulsion of Rep. George Santos from Congress after an Ethics Committee report. This context highlights the committee’s active role in upholding congressional standards.</p>

District of Columbia

Politics, history, and high rents! The District of Columbia stands proud with an average rent of $1,785. In the heart of the nation, where power and culture converge, the rental market is as competitive as the political arena. With two-thirds of the housing market dedicated to rentals, D.C. offers a dynamic living experience for those willing to shell out its premium prices, embodying the hustle and bustle of American democracy and innovation.

<p>Despite its historical significance, Baltimore grapples with high crime rates, including robberies and homicides. Visitors should exercise caution, even in downtown areas. In Baltimore, the <a href="https://www.bing.com/ck/a?!&&p=8e206e05bd988047JmltdHM9MTcxMDAyODgwMCZpZ3VpZD0yN2Q0OTA4Yy1lOTFkLTY3NDQtMmNmMi04NGJkZTgyNzY2M2UmaW5zaWQ9NTIwNA&ptn=3&ver=2&hsh=3&fclid=27d4908c-e91d-6744-2cf2-84bde827663e&psq=hcrime+rate+baltimore+2023&u=a1aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cubmVpZ2hib3Job29kc2NvdXQuY29tL21kL2JhbHRpbW9yZS9jcmltZQ&ntb=1">likelihood</a> of becoming a victim of violent crime is 1 in 64, while for property crime, it is 1 in 30.</p>

Maryland, with its blend of urban and natural beauty, sees average rents at $1,415. The state’s proximity to the capital and its own bustling cities like Baltimore contribute to its higher rental costs. Maryland offers a mix of coastal charm and city living, providing residents with a high quality of life, though it comes with a price tag reflective of its desirability.

<p>Despite its proximity to New York City, Newark faces challenges with crime, including robberies and assaults. In 2021, the crime rates for Newark, NJ, indicated that the likelihood of becoming a victim of violent crime in the city was 1 in 188, while for property crime, it was 1 in 52.</p>

Crossing into New Jersey, renters face average costs of $1,368 per month. Known as the Garden State, New Jersey offers proximity to major urban centers like New York City and Philadelphia, driving up demand and rental prices. Its diverse landscapes, from beaches to forests, combined with its strategic location, make it an attractive, yet costly, state for renters.

<p>Washington, home to tech giants like Amazon and Microsoft, has witnessed a 216% increase in home values over the past two decades. The typical home value in the Evergreen State has risen from $178,119 in 2000 to $562,290 in 2023, fueled by the state’s strong economy and high-paying jobs.</p>

In Washington state, the average rent hovers around $1,337, influenced heavily by the tech boom in Seattle and its surrounding areas. The state’s natural splendors, coupled with a thriving job market, create a high demand for living spaces, pushing rents upwards. Washington offers a blend of outdoor adventure and urban sophistication, but securing a spot here requires navigating through higher rental costs.

<p>Aaron Bushnell hails from the small town of Orleans, Massachusetts. Orleans is located on the eastern side of Cape Cod. He winded up getting stationed in San Antonio, Texas.</p>

Massachusetts

Massachusetts, with its rich history and access to education, commands an average rent of $1,336. Home to prestigious universities and a rich history, the state’s rental market is buoyed by demand from students, academics, and professionals alike. Living in Massachusetts means access to a wealth of cultural and educational opportunities, priced at a premium reflective of its value.

<p>Welcome to West Virginia, where the average rent is as modest as the state’s beautiful landscapes at just $732 a month. This state proves that you don’t need to compromise on natural beauty for affordability. Here, renters can enjoy the tranquility of the Appalachian Mountains without the financial stress that comes with higher-priced locales. It’s a haven for those seeking an escape from the city’s chaos, offering both peace of mind and peace of wallet.</p>

Politics latest: Sunak and Starmer call for 'restraint', as MPs warn of 'alarming escalation' in Middle East

The prime minister appears in front of MPs on their return from the Easter break to discuss the UK's involvement after the drone and missile attack by Iran. And later, the Rwanda bill comes back to the Commons as a new daily record is set for small boat crossings.

Monday 15 April 2024 17:17, UK

  • Sunak urges all sides to 'show restraint' as he condemns actions of Iran in Israel
  • Labour offers support as Starmer says attack 'left world a more dangerous place
  • Serena Barker-Singh: Growing calls from Tory backbenchers to proscribe Iran's Revolutionary Guard

As well as a statement from the prime minister, Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer had his say over this weekend's attacks on Israel by Iran.

You can watch his contribution below:

Jeremy Corbyn gets to his feet to ask the prime minister if he recognises the "continued Israeli occupation of Palestine" is the central cause of instability in the Middle East.

The former Labour leader, who now sits as an independent MP, says: "33,000 people have died in Gaza. More bombs have been dropped there than were dropped in the whole of the Iraq War.

"This weekend's horrific events show just how dangerous it is that there is going to be an escalation into war across the entire region.

"Does the prime minister recognise that the central kernel to the whole situation across the region is the continued Israeli occupation of Palestine?

"What will he say about bringing an end to that occupation and a permanent ceasefire?"

Mr Sunak replies: "The biggest impact on regional instability is the continued, pernicious influence of Iran and nobody else."

Next to ask a question is Nicola Richards, Tory MP for West Bromwich East.

She says Iran has smuggled arms across the Middle East, "equipped and funded and trained Hezbollah, Hamas and the Houthis".

She also says they have been "threatening British-Iranians on British soil" - and that doesn't include the regime's treatment of its own people.

Ms Richards becomes yet another MP to ask Rishi Sunak to proscribe Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

The prime minister replies she is "right to highlight the influence of Iran with missile shipments in the seas around them".

"That's why I am pleased that the United Kingdom is playing its part to practically do something about that," he adds, pointing to British warships in the Red Sea, and previous action to disrupt the supply of weapons to the Houthis and other groups in the region."

Conservative Mark Francois asks the prime minister to review a decision due to be taken next year that would see 30 Typhoon jets retired and sold off.

The MP for Rayleigh and Wickford likens the decision in the current climate to "selling off Spitfires before the Battle of Britain".

He says: "I wholly commend our RAF pilots and their superb Typhoon aircraft.

"But we only have 137 Typhoons, and because of budget pressures, next year, the MoD plans to retire 30 of them and sell them off, which would now be akin to selling off Spitfires before the Battle of Britain.

"Will the PM, when he has a moment, go back to his office and place that ridiculous decision under immediate review and at the very least put those typhoons in a war reserve in case one day we need them for ourselves?"

Mr Sunak replies: "I am happy to look at the issue he raised, but I would also note we are increasing our purchases of F-35 aircraft and collaborating with Japan and Italy on creating the next generation of fighter aircraft."

It was expected the prime minister would address the Commons following such a significant attack over the weekend.

Condemning the actions of Iran on Saturday evening, Rishi Sunak said while Israel had the right to defend itself, "all sides must show restraint".

But for all the talk of a "despotic regime", many backbenchers were asking what threats from the UK will now follow.

Tory MPs have called on the government to proscribe Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organisation before, saying it would be a step towards restoring stability to the Middle East.

And today, senior backbenchers including Suella Braverman and Sir Iain Duncan Smith asked the prime minister again why the IRGC had not been proscribed - meaning it would become a criminal offence in Britain to belong to the group, attend meetings or carry its logo in public.

In the strongest hint yet that a change could be afoot in this area, Mr Sunak responded to Conservative MP and former defence secretary Liam Fox that he had spoken to G7 allies, and discussed the need and benefit of coordinating further measures "perhaps including some of the things he talked about".

The PM said this would be to make sure there was "maximum impact both on the regime and on ultimate designations of any future sanctions".

There are already 400 sanctions on Iran. The latest were put in place at the end of last year, including on the IRGC.

But proscribing the group as a terrorist organisation would cut diplomatic ties, which the government today reiterated has been useful previously in their de-escalation route.

Tory MP Sir Simon Clarke rises to ask a question and immediately adds his to voice to calls for Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to be proscribed.

He says the IRGC's "tentacles are wherever trouble is to be found across the Middle East, and this is the latest demonstration of their malign influence".

Sir Simon turns to his question, which is to ask the PM to "set out a timetable to bring our commitment to raise the percentage of GDP that we spend on defence to 2.5% as quickly as possible".

He called for "specificity" as to how we will do so.

Rishi Sunak replies that the UK has "significantly increased defence spending by the largest amount since the end of the Cold War", and has spent £11bn to deal with inflation and strengthen our nuclear defences.

"We will always continue to invest in our armed forces to keep our country safe," he adds.

We are bringing you all the updates from the ongoing debate in the Commons over the Iranian attacks

But in case you missed the start - and Prime Minister Rishi Sunak's statement on the actions over the weekend - you can watch below.

Naz Shah said she wants to "remind" the prime minister that support for any nation is not like the "unconditional support that he has for his football team."

The MP for Bradford West says: "When Iran behaves like a rogues state in Syria, we call them out.

"When Israel taunts Iran by bombing its consulate in Syria, knowing full well Iran will respond risking further escalation, we must also call them out.

"What is the PM doing to ensure that the two-state solution and the recognition of Palestine is being actively pursued?"

Mr Sunak points her back to his previous statements committing the UK to a two-state solution.

The DUP's Sammy Wilson is next to ask a question of the PM.

He says: "The UK should not either dictate or demand from Israel restrictions in how it retaliates against the Iranian regime, which has shown it is prepared to take action to back up its threats to wipe Israel out."

He asks Rishi Sunak what the UK government can do to "disrupt the economic interests of Iran which exist in our own country".

The PM replies that the UK has "already sanctioned more than 400 Iranian individuals", and discussions are under way with allies to see what more can be done".

The former Westminster leader of the SNP asks the prime minister to tell Benjamin Netanyahu it is time to de-escalate the situation in the region.

Ian Blackford says: "When the PM has his discussions with Mr Netanyahu this afternoon, can he convey to him that now is the time to step back?

"There must be no further escalation in the Middle East and now is the time to recognise that both Israelis and Palestinians must live in peace, and to do that we need a two-state solution."

He goes on to ask the prime minister if he would reaffirm the UK's commitment to defending Ukraine

Mr Sunak replies that he is committed to supporting Ukraine for "as long as it takes", but doesn't directly address his comments on the Middle East.

wild life tour

My husband and I will be in moscow and wanted to take a side trip..understand Vladimir & Suzdal is quite nice. Do you prefer that to Sergiev Posad? Do you know any agencies that provide group tours or private tours to Vladimir & Suzdal? I understand that Patriarshy Dom is not operating its group tour during this time. Please advise. Any information you have to share would be helpful.

' class=

Vladimir & Suzdal are close to each other. you can use vladimir as base and also visit suzdal.

I will give you some links ( sorry i am out on tour and can't do more research).

http://gotorussia.vand.ru/ ( this is a tour operator offering 1 day tour from moscow to Vladimir , Suzdal or both) there are also combo tours with sergiev Possad with any of the above towns.

In order to organize tours from Vladimir, there are 3 major sites where you will get infor about the tours operating from Vladimir, how to reach there etc.

1. http://www.tour.vladimir.ru

2. http://www.vladimir-city.ru ( official site)

3. http://www.museum.vladimir.ru ( my recommended site)

<< go to english version / select option "services" / tours & excursions

My sugestion would be to go to Vladimir by train from moscow in the evening, take rest and then join a full day tour of vladimir - suzdal and return at night or next day morning. The train takes 2-3 hrs. Details available at http://www.poezda.net ( in english) .You can even book online

Trains are clean and safe. Hotel Vladimir at Vladimir is ok. near the train station. you can find the contacts in google. ( book the tickets in advance.)

You can visit sergiev possad ( quite near to moscow) using the moscow based tour agency mentioned above. They offer day trips to Sergivev possad.

If you want to search the net further, go to http://www.yandex.ru ( russian website) and type in "vladimir tour" or "suzdal tour" in ENGLISH. This will give you many sites with english option

have a nice trip

' class=

will you consider a DIY trip?

from moscow to vladimir take a long-distance train or a suburban (electrichek) train from kursky station. there are several in the daytime/early evening. certain long-distance trains are faster and can arrive in 2 hours. suburbans take 3 hrs. probably less complicated to buy suburban ticket than one of a long-distance train (where you need passport, specify what type of seat, which train number...) and also cheaper

once in vladimir you can walk around for 1-2 hours or even have your dinner there. then take a bus (avtobus) at the bus station just up a slope from the train station. the bus runs every 30-60mins till late. i took the one around 8-9pm. and the evening buses go directly into city centre of suzdal. the trip is about 40-60mins

the tricky part is if you reserve your accomodation in suzdal with a guesthouse/B&B, it may not be easy to locate. the one i had booked did not have a sign hanging at the door. i walked around for about an hour and at last had to find a local to talk to my host over phone and then she kindly led me to the right wooden house
