Star Trek: Strange New Worlds

Did you know

  • Trivia The Starfleet vessels seen in the first season, including the Discovery, the Shenzou and the redesigned Enterprise, were all designed by production artist John Eaves. Eaves' work with Star Trek spans three decades. Probably his most notable contribution was the design of the Enterprise-E for Star Trek: First Contact (1996) .
  • Goofs With Michael being the adoptive sister of Spock, the series has many flashbacks to their childhood and upbringing on Vulcan. Spock's Vulcan half-brother, Sybok, does not appear nor is mention during these scenes. In Star Trek V: The Final Frontier (1989) , Spock says that he and Sybok grew up together. However, since it's never stated when Sybok joined Sarek's home - only that he did so following his mother's death - or when he was exiled from the family, it's not impossible Sybok moved in after Burnham, and left before she graduated (the two extremes of the flashbacks). Also, since Sybok was never mentioned before Star Trek V, it seems reasonable the family never spoke of him again after his estrangement.
  • Alternate versions The serif-font legends and subtitles in the "broadcast" episodes are absent from the DVD versions, where they are replaced with the standard DVD subtitles.

Star Trek: Discovery, Season 2: Trailers, how to watch, release date, cast and more

Everything we know about the ongoing CBS All Access series.

discovery star trek saison 2

Star Trek: Discovery brought the Trek franchise back to television, or at least smaller screens, after years off air. The series was announced as a prequel to the original Star Trek , and it takes place about 10 years before that series. The first season also gave the classic character Spock a half-sibling , a move many decried as rewriting established canon.

The thing about canon, though, is that it  can always evolve  -- and Discovery continues to demonstrate just that. With the latest Discovery Season 2 trailer , we've got a deeper look at Spock, and more insight into what we can expect from the addition of Capt. Pike. CBS has also released an official synopsis of Season 2 , which lines up with previous one-liners, and announced that Season 2 will be 14 episodes as opposed to the previously ordered 13.

The first season gave us nearly unrecognizable Klingons, a revolutionary new mode of transportation thanks to mycelium spores , and Trek's first gay kiss . It also gave us a brand-new show for fodder and growth about the massive Trek universes, be it Prime, Kelvin or other. In the beginning of October, ahead of Season 2, Star Trek: Short Treks premiered. Episode 1 is called " Runaway " and focused on Ensign Sylvia Tilly ( Mary Wiseman ); all three episodes are available on CBS All Access now, and the final episode is directed by Rainn Wilson and arrives Jan. 3.

Disclosure: CNET earns commissions from the services featured on this page.

New season premieres Jan. 17

Ahead of New York Comic-Con in October, CBS announced that Star Trek: Discovery Season 2 would premiere in January and released a new poster with some cryptic symbolism . (Disclosure: CBS is CNET's parent company.) With the release of the latest Season 2 trailer , we learned these red lights are actually some sort of euphoric alien entity that the Discovery is searching for.

Spock seems to plead with his half-sister to help him find these entities, perhaps because the universe is in peril if he doesn't (isn't it always?). The new trailer also sheds light on where Lt. Ash Tyler ( Shazad Latif ) has been -- off fighting with L'Rell (Mary Chieffo) and maybe even newly minted Section 31 member (and probably Big Bad) Philippa Georgiou (Michelle Yeoh).

The new trailer also spends a lot of time reuniting Burnham with significant characters, such as Spock, Georgiou and Tyler. Interestingly, we still have no idea how once-dead Dr. Hugh Culber (Wilson Cruz) may re-emerge, and we get no new glimpses of Rebecca Romijn's Number One.

There's also a suuuuuper quick look at Tig Notaro's new character ; a huge bad that looks suspiciously like a Demogorgon ; confirmation that Section 31 is the worst kept secret in Starfleet; a really questionable Vulcan nerve pinch ; and confirmation that we will definitely still see some heavy-handed references to  Alice in Wonderland  this season.

How to watch Star Trek: Discovery

Season 1 is currently available to stream on CBS All Access if you're in the US, CraveTV in Canada and on Netflix in other countries. You can also  purchase the Blu-ray and DVD  (exact dates depend on where you are and what version you want to own) to get caught up before January.

When Season 2 premieres, it will be exclusively on the above platforms, and we've confirmed that just like Season 1, just one episode will be available each week.

Official synopsis, rumors and theories

The new official synopsis for Season 2 doesn't give much away.

After answering a distress signal from the U.S.S. Enterprise, Season 2 of Star Trek: Discovery finds the crew of the U.S.S. Discovery joining forces with Captain Christopher Pike on a new mission to investigate seven mysterious red signals and the appearance of an unknown being called the Red Angel. While the crew must work together to unravel their meaning and origin, Michael Burnham is forced to face her past with the return of her estranged brother, Spock.

OK, sure, sounds pretty simple. So while not a lot is known about Season 2, we have two  trailers  to draw from and use to speculate, along with a series of appearances that have illuminated a bit more about potential storylines. CBS All Access also unveiled a behind-the-scenes look at the work on Season 2 , featuring Executive Producer Alex Kurtzman touting its new "cinematic look."

Really, Section 31??

Look, I'm not necessarily mad about this addition, but it definitely already feels a bit too heavy-handed for what was also supposed to be a *secret* part of Starfleet. Other shows and movies have stuck to mostly hinting at the covert group, with the exception of a few notables episodes.

We know there was a  deleted scene  from the finale of Season 1 that would've given audiences a teaser about the secretive group, and it definitely isn't the first or last we've seen of those striking  half-black, half-silver badges . At  WonderCon  this year, Alan Van Sprang (who plays a new character named Leland) said he knows Section 31 is a "massive part" of Season 2 but didn't provide any other details. During the  first Season 2 trailer  though, we learned we'll see both those black badges and Mirror Universe Georgiou's role within the group.

And tbh she doesn't seem to have left her killy Mirror tendencies behind. This look is from the most recent trailer:

And it lines up scarily well with this shapeshifting GIF from the first trailer. Seems the Demogorgon might not be the only being capable of "wiping out all sentient life in the universe" Spock is warning Starfleet about. Is Georgiou trying to incite another war? Her hate for all things nonhuman and desire to rule as emperor again are too strong to just "fade away" in this new universe, right?

The return of an icon: Hello, Spock

Spock's only arriving for the second season, but he loomed large over half-sister Burnham throughout most of the first season. Over the summer, Martin-Green expressed her excitement about the casting addition.

"It's incredible," she said during a panel at Fan Expo Canada. "I just think it's genius to have us be set where we are, 10 years before [The Original Series] and to have Burnham be connected to that institution that is the family of Sarek and Amanda and Spock. I just am so appreciative of it. It's so full. It's so full, it's wrought with everything. And then I end up being two degrees separated from Captain Pike and that's really interesting too, to be able to have that sort of connection to the canon. I really loved that because one of the things we are doing in our iteration, on Star Trek: Discovery, is being our own thing, but also keeping that connection with us in the canon and having that connective tissue. So, I really appreciate it, and it is juicy!"

Given the pre-TOS timeline of Discovery, it's unclear just how Spock-like this version of Spock will be. The San Diego Comic-Con trailer insinuated that the classic character's appearance would be connected to the "mysterious red bursts" seen in the trailer and now on the official poster.

At New York Comic Con in October, we learned even more about the "new" Spock, as Peck told CNET's Roger Cheng that we're seeing how Spock becomes that classic logical Vulcan: "The ultimate destination for this Spock is Nimoy's Spock, but we have to come from somewhere. Over the course of the season, you see him become the Spock that we love and know."

Glowing red beings

Lights, bursts, whatever you call them we know they'll be at the heart of the mystery of Season 2. ComicBook.com speculated that they could be connected to the Kelvin Timeline , citing Burnham's quotes from the first trailer: "A secret made of space and time, visible only to those open enough to receive it." Pike also seems to hint that they drew Spock in and captivated him, "It's as if he'd run into a question he couldn't answer," he says in the trailer.

In the first trailer, Spock says: "As a child, I had the same vision, again and again. Now I understand where it must lead."

The Kelvin timeline refers to the events of the film trilogy that began with Star Trek (2009) , and stars Chris Pine as Captain James T. Kirk, Zachary Quinto as Commander Spock, Zoe Saldana as Lt. Nyota Uhura and John Cho as Hikaru Sulu. In that series, Prime Spock (played by Leonard Nimoy once more) accidentally travels backward in time when he attempts to use red matter in his own timeline. The red matter may be an explanation for the beings in the trailer and on the latest poster .

I know this is going to sound crazy, but for me the first thing the "angelic symbol" on the latest poster called to mind was Romulans. Yes, Discovery takes place a century after the Earth-Romulan War , and that former co-showrunner Aaron Harberts insinuated long ago that the R-word was more or less banned from the writers room but (a) again, where tf did the Klingons get the cloaking tech from? And (b) Harberts is no longer a part of the show. And after seeing the  Easter egg in the Season 1 finale , I'd say all bets are off.

Aiming for the classics

At NYCC , the consensus seemed to be that Season 2 is steering Discovery toward classic Trek. "[The different pace] allows us to explore some of the philosophical questions that great Trek has explored, that you don't have time to explore when you're at war," Executive Producer Alex Kurtzman said in an interview with CNET's Roger Cheng .

In the peacetime of the new season, all signs point to a lighter Trek, with some funny moments already seen in the two trailers -- a sentiment echoed by the cast and crew in New York. "The humor comes from the characters knowing each other better now," Kurtzman said in the same interview. "So much of what we love about Trek is funny."

Killy Tilly grows up

In a fresh roundup interviews promoting the Short Treks minisodes, Wiseman got into a bit more about her character, teasing the newly promoted officer's future. "Now that (Tilly is) in the command training program I'm trying to live up to that and kind of do a good job and succeed and that will also be a big part of Season 2," she told ComicBook.com .

Stepping into Killy Tilly's shoes last season was one of Wiseman's favorite moments, she told CNET this week. "People see something in her, her potential to be in command," Wiseman said, adding that Tilly is "completely herself, doesn't put on a front, and that's a quality people will follow." (While I think it's unlikely we'll see her again, I would not be mad about more Killy Tilly.)

Remaining questions Season 2 needs to answer

  • Do the Star Trek: Short Treks play into the continuity?  I don't think so, but there's no way to know for sure until we see the  Short Treks  and Season 2. I'm never against in-canon shorts but it feels a bit like these are like mini-feelers or pilots for the announced  Star Trek universe shows in development  -- but I may be biased since I feel  Aldis Hodge  deserves more than just a short. Tilly's Short Trek seemed to hint at her future with Starfleet and hinted at her loneliness onboard Discovery.
  • *How* is Dr. Culber back?  Cruz has been cagey about the details of his return to the screen, and while I'm excited he'll appear in the season, the how will be important.
  • What really happened to the Spore Drive research? Sorry, but I do not believe a war-torn Federation just "let it go."

Star Trek: Discovery - Episode Guide - Season 2

Star Trek Discovery on CBS All Access!

In the mold of Deep Space Nine , Discovery season 2 introduces (or reintroduces) a spate of new characters, some recurring, some strictly for this story arc. Returning to the show are the pre-TOS bridge crew of the USS Enterprise NCC-1701: the aforementioned Science Officer Spock, Captain Christopher Pike and the enigmatic Brainiac known almost entirely as “Number One.” Returning from Discovery mythos are EEEEevil Captain Philippa Georgiou in the role of Section 31 agent, plus Ensign Tilly’s BFF Queen Me Hani Ika Hali and Saru’s sister Siranna continue their respective Short Treks stories. Coming aboard the Discovery as new crew are the deadly sarcastic engineer Jet Reno (who may yet become this series’ Mister Scott) and security detail Commander Nhan.

As for plot, damn, this thing is epic. Planets throughout the quadrant are investigated, there’s pingponging through time, callbacks aplenty to ST mythology and, yes, epic space battles. As Commander Data once said, “Yes!”

Star Trek: Discovery episode guide – Season 2

1. Brother . Picking up directly after the season 1-ending cliffhanger, the reason for the Enterprise’s emergency distress call is immediately revealed. The Enterprise had been investigating one of seven signals seemingly randomly disbursed throughout the quadrant when suddenly knocked out of commission. Commander Michael Burnham leads a hazardous away mission to rescue the survivors of the wrecked USS Hiawatha who are eking out survival on a nearby asteroid. While nearly dying, Burnham has a strange, vision-like experience, and she sees a red-colored humanoid figure. Pike takes command of Discovery, and Burnham discovers that her brother Spock had dreamt of the seven signals. ***

2. New Eden . Discovery follows a second signal to the planet Terralysium, where the descendants of humans taken from Earth in the 21st century live – shades of Voyager ’s “ The 37s ”. Among the dominant culture’s religion is a belief in the “Red Angel,” a being identical to that seen by Burnham on the asteroid in “Brother.” Pike soon discovers that the Red Angel literally existed – or exists. In the subplot, it’s a head trip for Tilly, as an old friend joins the crew – an old friend that’s been dead for years. Jonathan Frakes directs for even more of that 90s Trek feel. ****

3. Point of Light . Spock’s mother Amanda visits Burnham on Discovery, providing her with Spock’s medical records as well as proof that he, too, had visions of the Red Angel in his childhood. Meanwhile, on Qo’NoS, Georgiou of Section 31 helps keep L’Rell in her position as head of the Klingon Empire by faking the deaths of Ash Tyler/Voq and their baby. Tilly’s head trip is diagnosed as due to a parasite and she is, apparently, cured. ***

4. An Obol for Charon . In the TOS tradition, an episode title grounded in mythology! In its death throes, a living planetoid yanks the Discovery out of warp so as to transmit in data form its memories from thousands of years of travelling about the quadrant. Unfortunately, this biological phenomenon triggers a fatal but normal condition in Saru. Tilly deals with her own condition, as the parasite reattaches itself to her, threatens the Discovery which is destroying the being’s ecosystem and appears to consume Tilly completely. Though Saru asks Burnham to perform his death rites, she finds Saru can survive the process and in fact is made all the stronger for it. ***

5. Saints of Imperfection . Tilly has been pulled into the mycelial network and discover that the ecosystem destruction has been caused by Dr. Culber, who somehow exists in the pocket world despite his apparent death at Voq’s hands. ***

6. The Sound of Thunder . The next signal leads to Kaminar, Saru’s home world and the site of the Short Trek “The Brightest Star.” Much is revealed of Saru’s people the Kelpians and their predators, the technologically-advanced Ba’ul and a killer twist leads to Saru essentially born again as a total badass. ****

7. Light and Shadows . While still in orbit over Kaminar, Pike and the Discovery crew investigate a temporal anomaly, which turns out to be the result of future technology. This technology soon invades the cyborg Lt. Airiam. Plot B has Burnham traveling to Vulcan, where she finds Amada hiding the clearly psychologically shattered Spock. Though Sarek advises they turn Spock over to Section 31 and Starfleet, Burnham instead escapes with him via shuttlecraft. ***

8. If Memory Serves . Burnham brings Spock to Telos IV, previously seen in the TOS pilot episode and again in “ The Menagerie .” The Telosians – you know, the big brain dudes – heal Spock with their mental powers and contact Pike telepathically to notify of their location. A nice callback to TOS. ****

9. Project Daedalus . Admiral Cornwall boards the Discovery again to confront Spock, Pike, Burnham and the rest with footage showing Spock murdering three in the psychiatric hospital. Instead, they soon find that Starfleet’s new artificial intelligence program, called Control, has been manipulating Starfleet and Section 31 in order to prevent Spock from revealing his knowledge of a future in which Control conquers all carbon-based life. When Control attempts to steal information gleaned from the sphere, a Discovery crew member sacrifices her life. ***

10. The Red Angel . Tilly discovers a bio-scan of the Red Angel entity which reveals that the humanoid inside the suit is in fact Burnham. Burnham in turn deduces (incorrectly, as it turns out) that the Red Angel is drawn to moments of her personal peril. Using Burnham as bait on quite a nasty undeveloped planet, the Discovery gang indeed gets manage a manifestation of the being, shown to be Michael’s mother… ***

11. Perpetual Infinity . Dr. Burnham’s backstory: The Red Angel is an experiment in time travel that she hastily donned when Klingons attacked the Burnhams’ home. Dr. Burnham was flung nearly 1,000 years into the future, from where she attempted to change the Control-dominated future by returning to the past. After literally hundreds of attempts, she was ensnared by Discovery’s trap. Meanwhile, Control, now in control of Section 31 head Leland, again attempts to steal the sphere’s data as the Discovery crew is trying to download it into the Red Angel suit. Control/Leland manages to get just over half the data. ***

12. Through the Valley of Shadows . Otherwise known as Pike Leaps into the Pantheon of Great Captains. A signal brings Discovery to the planet Boreth, whereon a group of Klingon monks guard time crystals – and suffer the strange effects of essentially living within a temporal anomaly. Needing a crystal to power the Red Angel suit, Pike takes it despite a warning that he’ll be shown his inevitable destiny, i.e. the vegetative state in which he’s seen in “The Menagerie.” Soon, a whole fleet of Section 31 ships under the command of Leland/Control, and thus Pike makes the decision to destroy Discovery rather than let Control attain the sphere’s data. ****

13. Such Sweet Sorrow, Part I . How a streaming series of only 14 episodes can ever feel padded, but such is the case with part 1 of the season-ender. After the entire crew is evacuated from the Discovery onto the Enterprise, which is back in working order under the command of Number One, Pike et al find that Discovery, loaded with AI data, will not be destroyed. A signal draws the two ships to Xahea, home of Tilly's friend Queen Me Hani Ika Hali Ka Po. Po helps the crews in working the Red Angel suit and a new plan is formulated: Burnham will wear the Red Angel suit and anchor the Discovery to it, bringing the sphere data 1,000 years or so into the future – and thus out of reach. ***

14. Such Sweet Sorrow, Part II . Space battle time! The Enterprise attempts to fend off Section 31 ships who would stop Burnham and the Enterprise. Klingon ships enter the fray, as does another unexpected and timely ally. Burnham experiences a half-dozen trips into the future and back to the past: Namely, to the times and spaces of the signals Discovery has traced thus far. Ultimately, the Discovery and a skeleton crew is sent into the far-flung future of the Short Treks episode “Calypso.” A satisfying, fast-paced, everything-but-the-kitchen-sink conclusion to one of the strongest seasons in all of Star Trek history – so far… ****

[REVIEW] STAR TREK: DISCOVERY – Season 2: Not Every Cage is a Prison

discovery star trek saison 2

The second season of Star Trek: Discovery has come and gone, and with it came 14 episodes that featured a sweeping overarching narrative, deep-cut  Star Trek references, and a renewed focus on the familial bonds of a starship crew. All welcome additions, sure, but just how good was the season?

discovery star trek saison 2

Anson Mount as Captain Pike (CBS)

The most obvious addition to season two was the person sitting in the center chair: Anson Mount as Captain Pike. Simply put, the decision to incorporate Pike into Discovery  was the highlight of the season. Not only was the character himself ripe for expansion considering Discovery ‘s place in the Star Trek timeline, but Mount brought charm, intelligence, gravitas, and authority to a character that, despite his legendary status in Star Trek  fandom, was only seen relatively briefly. Mount used this to his advantage, putting a spin on Jeffrey Hunter’s Christopher Pike that allowed him and the writers to flesh out the character far more deeply than anyone likely expected.

Pike’s defining moment came when he was forced to confront his unexpected fate that the audience already knew about: Pike’s debilitating accident. Pike’s courage in the face of his future is inspiring; he chose to help Discovery complete its mission instead of opting out of this gruesome fate. Admiral Cornwell wasn’t joking when she said Pike represented the best Starfleet had to offer. There’s currently a fan petition to get CBS to produce a Pike television series set onboard the Enterprise , and after Pike’s role in season two, it’s easy to understand why fans have grown so attached to him.

With Pike came another legacy Enterprise crew member: Spock. It took awhile before we actually got to know Spock and Ethan Peck ‘s performance, but once we did, it was clear Peck was dedicated to honoring the legacy of Leonard Nimoy while providing an emotional edge that was unusual for the character. Spock is going through some emotional turmoil in season two, which allows Peck to be more dramatic and emotionally complex. This, combined with Spock’s shaggy appearance in Discovery , is a great way to distinguish the character from elsewhere in the franchise. And while we mostly saw Spock in this different, emotional role, the very end of the season saw him settle perfectly into the role we know and love – and even having Burham prophetically ask Spock to seek out the person most opposite him, and allow that person to bring balance to his life. Captain Kirk to the bridge! Having Spock stroll out onto the Enterprise bridge in the season finale, equipped with his classic, clean-shaven look, is an expertly crafted transition to The Original Series .

The third Enterprise crew member who was hyped before season two, but ended up being short-changed a bit, was Number One ( Rebecca Romijn) . Ultimately, we only saw her in three episodes: “ An Obol for Charon ,” and then the two-part finale. It was nice to see the character at her station and interacting with Captain Pike, especially on the bridge of the Enterprise , but one can’t help but feel Number One’s treatment here was a half-hearted attempt at fan service, rather than an intricately written part of the show like Spock and Pike.

Anthony Rapp as Paul Stamets

Anthony Rapp as Paul Stamets (CBS)

“You’re all astronauts on… some kind of star trek?”

Most fans will probably agree that this season saw Discovery finding its grove in its storytelling, at least compared to classic Star Trek . There were a couple episodes that were immediately reminiscent of Berman-era Star Trek . With a few tweaks, these episodes, such as “ New Eden ” and “An Obol for Charon,” could have stood on their own as standalone adventures. Even more episodes saw the crew resolve their problems with the typical  Star Trek  tropes: teamwork, optimism, bravery, sacrifice, intelligence, and yes, technobabble (although we should note that the technobabble in  Discovery is much more useful than other Star Trek . Discovery uses many real-world or quasi-scientific concepts in its babbling). Compared to the dark tone of season one, the shift in tone in season two was welcomed. Those holding out on season one may just have their minds changed on the show in season two.

Accompanying the change in tone was an even more welcome addition: more crew moments, the lifeblood of any Star Trek show! We finally learn more about the secondary characters, who served mainly as background characters in season one. From the very start of the season, these characters served purposes integral to the plot – such as Kayla Detmer ( Emily Coutts ) and Joann Owosekun ( Oyin Oladejo ) saving Captain Pike during the season premiere’s asteroid run sequence (a moment referenced by Pike again in the season’s penultimate episode).

Hannah Cheesman as Airiam

Airiam’s final moments in “Project Daedalus” (CBS)

The human/robot hybrid Airiam ( Hannah Cheesman ) also played a huge role in the season’s main plot. Infected by Control, she sacrifices herself to save Burham and company. While her characterization and demise was told mainly in “ Project Daedalus ,” a la an episode of  The Walking Dead , the message her familial bond illustrated was perfectly Trek . If any character needed a Short Trek episode, it was Airiam! Taken together, character-centric moments are a dime a dozen in this season, and it is a major change from the laser-focused nature of season one on certain main characters. Last season, we only got our first good sense of the crew’s familial nature in “ What’s Past is Prologue ,” when Saru rallied the crew for the battle against the Terran Empire flagship.

Doug Jones as Saru in "The Brightest Star"

Doug Jones as Saru in “The Brightest Star” (CBS)

What’s past is prologue, indeed

A novel introduction to season two was the series of Short Treks that aired before the new season. These four 15-minute mini-episodes served to spotlight particular characters that we knew may or may not play a role in season two. As it turns out, two of the four Short Treks did indeed introduce characters and places seen in season two, and in retrospect, they did a great job providing a quick and effective introduction. Po ( Yadira Guevara-Prip ), who turned out to be a helpful character in the season’s finale, was featured alongside Tilly ( Mary Wiseman ) in the first Short Trek “ Runaway. ” Here, audiences gleaned a sense of Po’s internal emotional struggle and charismatic, rebellious attitude. Meanwhile, Doug Jones flexed his acting muscles playing Saru’s backstory in “ The Brightest Star ,” which turned out to be a direct prequel to “ The Sound of Thunder .”

However, one Short Trek that we expected to tie more thoroughly into the season finale was “ Calypso. ” While we do now know why Discovery was seen hundreds of years in the future, it doesn’t explain why the crew evacuated the ship, or how the sentient AI, Zora, came to be. It very well may be that this particular Short Trek will actually tie more into season three, instead of season two. And finally, the Short Trek featuring Harry Mudd ( Rainn Wilson ), did not have anything to do with season two.

We know more Short Treks are coming, and with the expansion of the Star Trek  universe underway, these mini-episodes will serve as great appetizers for both season three of  Discovery , and other TV shows.

discovery star trek saison 2

Leland being taken over by Control (CBS)

“There are always possibilities.”

This season leaves us with some major questions regarding Discovery  and other Star Trek  elements. A sneaky tease that the show’s writers incorporated into this season’s villain is the strong hint that Control could be a precursor to the Borg. Leland and Gant, both, ahem, assimilated by Control, use phrases similar to the Borg, and near the end of the season, the Control-infested Leland started audibly sounding more and more like a Borg. Combine that with Control’s use of nanites – and the visual of Leland and Gant repairing themselves during battle much like the Borg Cube in “Q Who” – and you have a solid argument that Control is somehow, someway related to our Delta Quadrant bad guys. The end of season two did not answer this theory or address it in any way, but we do know those nanites that ran through Leland are onboard the Discovery  in its spore drive chamber. Considering this theory is grounded in such pointed and obvious references to  Star Trek ‘s favorite villains, it’s hard to believe season three won’t give this theory some legitimacy.

What we do know is that Phillipa Georgiou (Michelle Yeoh) is now onboard Discovery  when it was launched hundreds of years into the future. This is a head scratcher considering Michelle Yoeh is heading the incoming Section 31 series . Does that mean the new show is a prequel to season two of Discovery ? Or does Georgiou somehow make it back to the past on her own? Or maybe one of the Short Trek s we expect this summer will explain this?

discovery star trek saison 2

Discovery taking damage in the season two finale (CBS)

“All good things…”

After learning how season two ends and reflecting on the overarching narrative expertly told over 14 episodes, it is safe to say this season was a fantastic outing overall. Using “The Cage” as a catalyst to drive much of its narrative and re-introducing Captain Pike and Spock to the masses, season two will leave its mark on  Star Trek  fans thanks to its deep, lovingly characterized dramatis personae, flashy visual effects work (most notably that enormous space battle featuring the Enterprise  in “ Such Sweet Sorrow, Part 2 “), and engaging overarching plot that puts a new twist on Star Trek  time travel craziness.

Now, Discovery (the ship, as well as the show) is in quite a predicament. The crew is lost in space and time, hundreds of years ahead of everything they knew. But more than that, Discovery is now divorced from a key ingredient in its second season: fan nostalgia. Captain Pike, Spock, the Enterprise , D7 Klingon ships, the Talosians, Section 31, and a hundred other tiny references to past Star Trek was a major part of this season’s enjoyment. Discovery now has to carve out its own place in the Star Trek canon, away from the constraints (and benefits) of established lore.

With this constraint in mind, a prophecy foretold on a fortune cookie in the season premiere did indeed come true: “not every cage is a prison, not every loss is eternal.” Discovery thrived in the cage it placed itself in, and now, we can’t wait to see what happens now that it has broken out.

i think the best thing about the show was pike. pike is a true hero. he sees what is going to happen to the point he falls backwards as he is terrified of the image he has seen. he decides to take the crystal anyways. imho it would have made more sense if after burnham goes through the wormhole everybody forgets what has happened. for pike to have to walk around knowing his future could drive somebody insane. pike’s only salvation comes in the 2 part episode the menagerie where spock manages to bring him back to talos IV. the talosians can give pike the illusion of being whole once again and vina is there waiting for him.

A thing: according to canon, the first glimpse of the Borg happened in Enterprise, episode Regeneration, when they find some Borg left from First Contact, and later Archer hears the famous “resistance is futile” hail in a transmission. Later, they find out a Borg communication was sent to the Delta quadrant giving Earth’s location. Also, there is a mention of a planet of machines as the reason of V’ger upgrade from a probe to a sentient powerful entity, which many have understood as being the Borg.

i’m halfway in lol… so i didn’t catch the entire read here… but so far it’s been great… characters are fantastic and getting stronger… i love the season long arcs… it is so sad a bunch of trek fans can’t get on board… it reminds me of when tng premiered and many fans of the original wouldn’t accept it… same happened to ds9… trek fans pride themselves on being open minded and accepting of such stories trek delivers but many become closed and angry at the thought of change… it’s crazy because this show is so good. trek has always changed it’s aesthetic from decade to decade staying modern while still feeling like trek and this is 100 percent no different.

Pike was the best thing about S2, followed by Spock and Number One, but NOT for nostalgia reasons. It’s because Pike and Spock acted as control rods in the nuclear reaction that was, in S1, Michael Burnham’s ego and narcissism. No more mutinies or starting interstellar wars and getting let off by Star Fleet, though Pike let her go off on dodgy shuttle missions a few times. Having said that, there were too many sappy relationship moments, and quite a few minor plot holes that didn’t make sense e.g. not using a transporter or shuttle to get people out of sticky moments such as the rogue photon torpedo in the last episode, or more broadly, the ignoring of temporal paradoxes.

I still find Burnham insufferable, but there were enough times that Spock or Pike stood up to her or told her she was just plain wrong that it was easier to swallow. Also kudos to Michelle Yeoh – she seemed to be smirking throughout the whole season, laughing with malevolence inside, though how she was able to fight Leland to a stand-still was ridiculous given their relative sizes and ages. Fewer cringeworthy SJW moments too, though still a few, like the mansplainer getting smashed on an asteroid. The proto-show seen at the very end, as a shaven Spock joins Pike and No. 1 on the bridge of the Enterprise, is the show I would like to see. Leave Burnham and the trendoids on Discovery’s bridge in a mysterious future.

Star Trek: Discovery Season 2 Netflix Release Schedule

Jacob Robinson What's on Netflix Avatar

It’s back! After what has felt like an age Star Trek: Discovery has finally returned to Netflix. After a massively successful first season, it comes as no surprise that CBS renewed for another season on the iconic franchise . So the question is when will Netflix air the latest episodes after the US? Let us help you with that, here is your Netflix release schedule for Star Trek: Discovery .

Thanks to the release of Star Trek: Discovery CBS All Access received a record number of subscribers during the first season. Star Trek is a ginormous franchise and it’s incredible that even after 50 years the demand for more content is still going strong.

Star Trek: Discovery is a prequel series set roughly 10 years before the events of Star Trek: The Original Series . The story is centered around science specialist Michael Burnham and the crew of the USS Discovery and their role during the war between the United Klingon houses and the United Federation.

What can be expected from Season 2?

*Potential Spoilers Below*

The series will continue to take place in what is known as the Prime Timeline. Therefore the events of the series take place in the television universe and not the rebooted cinematic timeline. The USS Enterprise is set to take a large role in the story with Captain Pike in the hot seat prior to Captain Kirk. The USS Discovery will help the Enterprise in its investigation into mysterious red bursts of light spread light years apart. Spock is linked to these mysterious lights so Burnham must jump into the action to help her adoptive brother.

Section 31 is also set to feature very heavily in the second season of Star Trek: Discovery . The first appearances of Section 31 came in the series Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and has subsequently featured in Star Trek: Enterprise and Star Trek Into Darkness . For those unaware of Section 31, they are an autonomous intelligence and defense organization that operate in secret and not subject to the constraints of Starfleet’s ethical protocols.

How to Watch Star Trek Discovery Season 2

Star Trek: Discovery will debut on CBS, the broadcast network, but you'll need CBS All Access to watch the show's entire run.

Update Jan 17: Season 2 of Star Trek Discovery premieres tonight at 8:30 PM ET/5:30 PM PT with new episodes coming out weekly in the same time slot.

While Star Trek: Discovery's first season has come and gone since then, the pertinent information to watch Season 2 is the same. To watch the show in the United States, you'll need a subscription to CBS All Access . In Canada, you can tune in on the Space channel , while the rest of the world can use Netflix . Since it premiered more than 50 years ago, Star Trek has enthralled imaginative TV fans all around the world with its unique mix of action, adventure, drama and science-fiction.

Enter Star Trek: Discovery: the latest entry in the franchise, made for the era of prestige streaming television. Star Trek: Discovery takes place ten years before the original series, and explores how the United Federation of Planets and the Klingon Empire come to oppose each other in an intergalactic cold war.

Sonequa Martin-Green will play the show’s protagonist: Michael Burnham, an officer aboard the U.S.S. Discovery. Other important characters include Jason Isaacs as the Discovery’s captain, Michelle Yeoh as the captain of the U.S.S. Shenzhou and James Frain as Sarek, Mr. Spock’s father.

Streaming Trek

The show has also garnered some interest for being CBS ’s first foray into big-budget streaming television. As such, you won’t be able to watch it on regular television. You'll have to use the CBS All Access streaming service, at least in the United States.

MORE: Best Streaming Services

Furthermore, Star Trek: Discovery won’t offer all of its episodes at once, as Netflix tends to do with its original series like The Defenders . Fans will have to tune in each week, just like they were watching a traditional TV show. Of course, missing an episode when it airs won’t be a problem; after its initial run, viewers will be able to stream it anytime.

CBS All Access

Your options to watch Star Trek: Discovery are, as such, pretty slim: Either pony up some cash for CBS All Access , or go watch something else. The service offers a 7-day free trial; after that, it costs $6 per month to watch shows with advertisements, or $10 per month to watch without.

On the bright side, watching CBS All Access is trivially simple. Just load the app onto whichever device you use to watch TV (Apple TV, Android, Google Chromecast, Amazon Fire TV, iOS, PlayStation, Roku, PC, Xbox), log in, and start streaming.

Star Trek: Discovery isn’t the only thing you can watch, either. You’ll get access to a generous back catalog of CBS shows, including NCIS, Blue Bloods, The Good Wife and the other six Star Trek series. (Yes, there are six other series. If you’ve never seen The Animated Series , you can probably skip it.)

As for whether CBS All Access is worth the price in general, I’m ambivalent. But I will absolutely pay for Star Trek: Discovery, and I suspect that many other fans will feel the same way.

Star trek: discovery executive producer on season 1 & 2 changes: "context is everything".

Exclusive: Star Trek: Discovery season 5 marks the end of the series, and executive producer Alex Kurtzman looks back on seasons 1 and 2's changes.

  • Season 5 of Star Trek: Discovery, the final season, wraps up the series with a special "coda" episode to close out the show.
  • The show pivoted throughout its run, jumping from the 23rd century to the 32nd century, embracing optimism in season two.
  • Executive producer Alex Kurtzman reflects on the changing tone of the show, emphasizing the importance of bold storytelling choices.

Star Trek: Discovery executive producer Alex Kurtzman looks back on how the show changed in its controversial first two seasons. Star Trek: Discovery season 5 premieres Thursday, April 4, on Paramount+. Not originally produced to close out the Star Trek series led by Captain Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green), Discovery season 5 is now the show's final season, and it ends with a special "coda" filmed to wrap up the series. It's an example of how Star Trek: Discovery has consistently pivoted when required since the series' inception.

Prior to Star Trek: Discovery season 5's world premiere at SXSW, Screen Rant asked executive producer Alex Kurtzman to look back on how the series began. Star Trek: Discovery s easons 1 and 2 were originally set in the 23rd century before jumping 930 years into the future in Discovery season 3. Kurtzman reflects on the "context" o f when Discovery began , which was a deciding factor in the early seasons' tone and style. Read his quote below:

I think what you want to do when you create a season of television is say there's a couple of stakes I want to put in the ground for things I know I want to get to. But I also want to leave myself a lot of room to discover new things that I didn't expect were coming. And have both of those things happen. You know, we didn't honestly expect to be jumping to the 32nd century in the show at the end of season two. And once we came to that, we realized that it was gonna be the kind of thing that either killed the show or gave the show new life. And fortunately, [new life is] exactly what it did. But those are the kinds of big bold swings that you want to take that, I think, keeps Trek fresh…
I would say that the first season was definitely darker and tone. And again, context is everything. It's 2017. And streaming TV was really just starting, and everybody was really focused on serialized storytelling. And everybody was wanting to do the thing you couldn't do on network television, right? And typically, that involves darker storylines. We always knew that the essential vision of that first season was going to be about going through darkness to emerge into light. Because you can't make a Star Trek show unless it's fundamentally about optimism. But I would say that starting with season two, which is when Michelle came in, we really tack toward, ‘Okay, now we're going to embrace that optimism’. And so the tone I think of the show changed a lot in season two.

Star Trek: Discovery Season 5 - Everything We Know

Star trek: discovery's changes reinvented the series for the better, discovery is now set in the farthest future of star trek.

Although successful enough to prop up the CBS All-Access streaming service, which rebranded as Paramount+, and open the door for a succession of Star Trek TV series . Star Trek: Discovery seasons 1 and 2 were plagued by detractors who took issue with the show's war-like tone, visual and technological advances, and changes to Star Trek canon like the reinvented Klingons. Discovery season 2 was more well-received, especially for re-introducing Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount), but it was evident that Discovery needed a big change to sustain itself and continue.

Anson Mount's popularity as Captain Pike led to fans clamoring for a spinoff set on the Starship Enterprise, which became Star Trek: Strange New Worlds .

Star Trek: Discovery jumping to the 32nd century was a creative shot in the arm that freed the show from the chains of canon and allowed it to forge the future of the Star Trek franchise. In the year 3189 onward, Discovery is now set at the farthest point in Star Trek 's timeline , which lets the show reexamine core aspects of Star Trek like what Starfleet and the United Federation of Planets mean in the 32nd century. Star Trek: Discovery' s future is expected to continue in another spinoff, Star Trek: Starfleet Academy . Since Star Trek: Discovery was the first Star Trek on Paramount+ series, it was only fitting it got to chart Star Trek' s distant future.

Star Trek: Discovery's Final Season Was Given A Very Apt Nickname By Its Writers [SXSW 2024]

T he fifth and final season of "Star Trek: Discovery" debuts on April 4, 2024, and it is a time of ambivalence. "Discovery" has struggled throughout its tenure , unsure as to what its identity should be, or what its general vibe is. Other "Star Trek" shows always featured staunch, stone-faced diplomats in ultra-professional workplace environments. The "Discovery" characters, in contrast, are teens at a slumber party, if the teens were over-dramatic theater kids and the slumber party was held after they all lost the one-act-play competition. The crew of the U.S.S. Discovery openly discuss their feelings at all times and perpetually need shoulders to cry on. The professionalism of "Star Trek: The Next Generation" is long behind us.

But then, that seems to be what the show's fans like most about it. Captain Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) encourages both emotional vulnerability and her crew to approach one another with open hearts. They will still engage in battles and firefights -- and even murder foes -- but then the crew will reconnoiter to weep about how hard it all was. Sensitive souls likely appreciate the steady stream of tears and affection amidst all the death.

The farewell season seems to have been equally emotional for the actors and crew. Indeed, it was while they were filming the last few episodes that the "Discovery" cast and crew received word that the fifth season would be their last . After that, it seems that everyone looked back over the show they had been involved with since 2017 and became intensely wistful, feeling a bittersweet warmth for the adventure they had been on.

Indeed, at this year's SXSW, where "Discovery" screened its season 5 premiere , Martin-Green noted that this season was "the adventure season."

The Adventure Season

The plot of the fifth season of "Star Trek: Discovery" will be a spinoff of the "Star Trek: The Next Generation" episode "The Chase" (April 26, 1993). In that episode, the U.S.S. Enterprise-D and several other ships rushed to solve a strange archaeological mystery involving salvaged DNA from far-flung areas of the galaxy. It's eventually revealed that all humanoid species in "Star Trek" share an impossibly ancient ancestor and that they seeded the whole galaxy with their DNA, hoping to proliferate their species. Basically, the plot of "The Chase" was meant to address why all species on "Star Trek" tend to be kind of the same (that is: bipedal, one head, two arms, etc.).

It seems that in the 32nd century, the U.S.S. Discovery-A will go on a chase of its own ... and have a glorious adventure along the way. Here's how Martin-Green, speaking at SXSW (where /Film's Jacob Hall was in attendance), explained the situation:

"Oh, man. Okay. Well, this is [...] as you can see, it's an adventure. Season 5. And that's something that we ended up saying that all the time. It became a mantra on set to be shooting, did it not? Because [showrunner] Michelle [Paradise] let us know before we start shooting [that] this, this was going to be the adventure season. This is going to be the fun season. That we were going to do things we had never done before. We were going to endeavor to just do the impossible."

Indeed, there is a scene in the fifth season wherein Captain Burnham rides on the exterior of a starship ... while it's going at warp speed. There will also be an exciting action sequence on a desert planet, with Michael riding a futuristic motorcycle away from an encroaching threat. Martin-Green was impressed with the sequences.

The VR Wall

Martin-Green also mentioned working with the VR wall, a relatively new filming process that involves virtual sets ( think ILM's Volume technology ). Rather than filming against blue screens and compositing in CGI environments after the fact, the VR wall allows showrunners to render the environments first and then plug them into a circular digital screen that surrounds the actors. The animated environments are then hooked into the camera's movements, allowing cinematographers to walk their cameras freely among the actors as the digital background adjusts in real-time. VR walls are a little disorienting to actors, but they do provide an inexpensive way to make convincing backgrounds; they're certainly less wasteful and a lot faster than building practical sets.

Martin-Green was impressed with this technique, stressing how great it made "Discovery" look:

"And that, oh my goodness, those sequences in that first episode. The sand runner sequence, which I know is one of your favorites. Oh my goodness. At the VR wall with 11,000-plus screens, all these elements coming together. It's fire, smoke, and wind. It was just incredible to watch it come together. Because we really were doing the impossible. And there is [...] It just keeps going. There's more of that. It just keeps growing."

The final 10 episodes of "Discovery" will stream on Paramount+ from April 4 through May 30, 2024. The show will have lasted 65 episodes in total. However one may feel about the adventure, "Discovery" was the crowbar that cracked "Star Trek" open again and brought it into the world of streaming television. It may have been clumsy, but it was always open about its feelings.

Star Trek: Discovery Season 5's Start Feels Bittersweet, And Really Drives Home How Much This Show Reminds Me Of Voyager

I don't want the ride to end.

Star Trek: Discovery Season 5 feels like the show's best season yet, and that's incredibly bittersweet. I was only given the first four episodes to screen of the upcoming Star Trek show , but it's clear that the final adventure of the Sonequa Martin-Green-led series is primed to be the best of the run. While watching, I couldn't help but feel it's bittersweet and be reminded of the same feelings I had when watching Voyager Season 5.

I think in the years to come, a lot of comparisons will be made to both shows, especially since they're both available to stream with a Paramount+ subscription . Beyond the fact that they're both shows with women as captains of vessels, Star Trek: Discovery Season 5 nails the comparison, similar to how I felt when watching the Season 5 episodes of Voyager . As a note, this is a spoiler-free analysis of the final season, so don't worry about having any bits tarnished before the big premiere on April 4th.

Both Discovery And Voyager Hit Their Stride Late In The Run

If I've had any criticism regarding Star Trek: Discovery since its beginning, it was that it often suffered from uneven storytelling. Seasons 1 through 3 delivered on building anticipation and delivering some great episodes, but it always felt like the ending never quite lived up to the expectation of what was being built towards. Many times I was left feeling that the show reached a climax weeks ahead of the season finale, and the rest was good, but not quite as thrilling.

Star Trek: Discovery Season 4, in my opinion, was the first time one of this show's seasons appropriately built toward a satisfying ending that peaked at just the right time. Now imagine that same vibe in Season 5, except it's balls-to-the-wall right out the gate. As promised, the series is delivering on action in Season 5 , but as Doug Jones told CinemaBlend, it's not sacrificing the parts people love about Discovery in the process. This is the perfect blend of action and emotion, and there's even some episodic fun likely inspired by Strange New Worlds ' success .

It feels like Discovery finally nailed its formula in Season 5, which is exactly how I felt about Star Trek: Voyager . The show gets a big boost with Jeri Ryan joining as Seven of Nine in Season 4, and then by Season 5, we have strong stories with her, The Doctor, Janeway, and everyone else. There's an argument often made that Season 5 of Voyager is the peak of Star Trek storytelling, even if other shows like The Next Generation were more consistently solid.

That feeling is the same here with Discovery , in that when this show is good, it's phenomenal. Discovery didn't re-invent itself to find this formula either, it just found what will ultimately be the ideal framework for serialized storytelling in the franchise going forward. There's no denying some fans felt it stumbled along the way, but I'm confident they'll be fully on board with this incredible, thrilling adventure that puts them in search of a powerful artifact.

The Strength Of Star Trek: Discovery Season 5 Will Have You Wishing We Had More Adventures

The massive downside of Star Trek: Discovery 's incredibly strong start to Season 5 is that for every thrill you have, it'll be in the back of your head that this show is ending. I can't tell you the number of times in the first four episodes that I said to myself, "Damn, if they just had another season or two." I very much have the feeling that the show is going to end its run on top and leave audiences begging for a follow-up and when to expect it.

The Doctor murdering people will haunt my dreams.

At the same time, I do have to wonder if Discovery would've kept this strong momentum or struggled in the same way in successive seasons as Voyager did. Voyager Seasons 6 and 7 certainly weren't bad if you overlook the weird Chakotay and Seven romance, but there's no denying Season 5 was the peak. I can't say  Discovery  would've followed the same pattern as  Voyager , but I can say that if it did, I would've gladly watched the next two seasons and sooner had the show ended like that than get this abrupt ending.

The good news is that while Star Trek: Discovery will end as a series, the story is never truly over for these characters. Assuming the final scene shot that gave Doug Jones closure isn't the entire crew dying in a violent explosion, there will be opportunities in the future for this crew to appear in other projects and adventures. We also already have the first spinoff movie in development, with Star Trek: Section 31 's production kicking off , so it's not like the franchise is shying away from developing new projects based on it.

And just to reiterate, these are just my thoughts and feelings on the first four episodes of Star Trek: Discovery Season 5. Paramount+ did not provide the remaining six episodes of the season so far, though based on what is set up in these episodes, I'm optimistic the quality will continue throughout the rest of the season. There are some big surprises in store for viewers that make themselves known from the first episode, and it's the kind of surprise that, again, makes you wish there were just more episodes for more moments like this to happen.

Star Trek: Voyager has yet to get a movie, though I'd argue now is the perfect time for one. Star Trek: The Original Series , however, ended up getting six movies years after its cancellation. I can't say for sure what's possible in the modern streaming market, but I would wager that if the fans want it and the cast is available and willing, there are going to be opportunities in the future to bring back the Discovery crew for movies set in the 32nd century. For now, we have ten more episodes to enjoy, and I think fans definitely will like them.

Star Trek fans can stream the first two episodes of Discovery Season 5 when they premiere on Paramount+ Thursday, April 4th. Keep with CinemaBlend in the coming weeks as we talk more about the upcoming season and share all we learned from the cast in our interviews about the past, present and future of Discovery !

James Gunn Shares How Peacemaker Season 2 Connects to Superman in Wider DCU Update

Word on waller and creature commandos too..

Ryan Dinsdale Avatar

DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn has given a wider update on the upcoming DCU and confirmed Peacemaker Season 2 will take place after the events of 2025's Superman (previously Superman: Legacy).

In a series of posts on Threads , Gunn gave updates on the highly anticipated second season of the John Cena-starring show, and also shared how it will fit in with other DCU titles like the Viola Davis-led series Waller .

Gunn, who led Peacemaker and The Suicide Squad for the defunct DC Extended Universe , reiterated to fans that Season 1 is not part of the DCU but Season 2 is. He also made clear Superman was created as a DCU entry and never planned for the DCEU.

9 DC Graphic Novels You Should Read to Understand James Gunn's DCU

If you want to brush up on DC's comic book lore before James Gunn's revamped DCU kicks off, then these are the graphic novels you need to read.

"Peacemaker Season 2 will take place after the events in Superman," Gunn said. When asked if the events of Superman will have an impact on the second season, he responded with a clear "yes". Superman and Peacemaker Season 2 will also be shot simultaneously, meaning that, just like Season 1, Gunn will only direct some episodes "in the interest of getting the show out there".

It's unclear how Peacemaker's transition from DCEU to DCU will work exactly, though Gunn said "many strands will remain consistent as far as Peacemaker's story goes". He also confirmed all of Team Peacemaker will return with the same actors, meaning Cena will be joined by the likes of Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase and Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo.

As for Waller, Gunn made clear it's "still happening", with creators Christal Henry and Jeremy Carver "hard at work writing great stuff". It will arrive later in Chapter 1: Gods and Monster than was expected, however, as "the schedule was impacted by the strikes".

Though no specific release window was shared, Gunn confirmed that Waller, and everything that happens in the show, will come after Peacemaker Season 2. Other films and shows were affected by the strikes too, but Gunn didn't say anything more specific.

And finally, Gunn said animated show Creature Commandos, which kicks off the DCU in late 2024, will take place before the events of Superman. The series will star Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr. , David Harbour as Eric Frankenstein, Indira Varma as The Bride, Maria Bakalova as Princess Ilana Rostovic, Zoe Chao as Nina Mazursky, Alan Tudyk as Dr. Phosphorus, Sean Gunn as Weasel and G.I. Robot, Steve Agee as John Economos, and Anya Chalotra as Circe .

discovery star trek saison 2

Superman will follow, sticking to its July 11, 2025 release date despite the writer and actor strikes which brought Hollywood to a standstill in 2023 and affected other DCU projects. It will tell the story of a young Superman as he looks to balance his Kryptonian and Kansan heritage, though definitely won't be an origin story.

Lots of other DC characters will appear in the film, such as Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern , Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Anthony Carrigan will play Metamorpho , and María Gabriela as The Engineer . Gunn confirmed these actors would play the roles in other DCU projects too , only starring beside David Corenswet as Superman and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane as supporting characters.

Little is known about the other projects beyond Milly Alcock's casting in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, though a couple of directors have been confirmed. Logan and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny director James Mangold is writing Swamp Thing as a "simple, clean, gothic horror movie" , while The Flash director Andy Muschietti will lead Batman: The Brave and the Bold .
