Milton Jones announces Ha!Milton tour

'A whole new show of daftness' hits the road this autumn

Milton Jones has announced a new tour with a typically inventive pun as its title: Ha!Milton.

But the comic is quick to point out: ‘This is not a musical. I am tone deaf and have no sense of rhythm, but at least I don’t make a song and dance about it.

‘This is a whole new show of daftness. You know it makes sense.’

The show kicks off with three nights at the Bloomsbury Theatre in London in September and runs across 71 nights until December.

Jones is also currently working on his 15th series for Radio 4, two years after the fourth run of Thanks a Lot, Milton Jones ! aired. Free tickets to the March 24 recording in Central London are available here .

He was previously a regular on Mock the Week, with other TV appearances including Live at the Apollo, Michael McIntyre’s Roadshow and Richard Osman's House of Games.

His last three tours have all played to more than 100,000 people.

Tickets for Ha!Milton go on general sale on Friday.

Milton Jones in Milton: Impossible

Mon 1 Jan 0001 - Fri 12 Nov 2021 , Meres Leisure Centre

One man.  One Mission.  Is it possible? No, not really.  Him with the shirts from Mock the Week, Live at the Apollo and Radio 4.

One Mission.

Is it possible? No, not really.

Him with the shirts from Mock the Week, Live at the Apollo and Radio 4.

‘No-one can touch Jones when he hits his stride’ The Guardian

Milton reveals the truth about being an international spy, before being given a disappointing new identity which forced him to appear on Mock the Week, Live at the Apollo. But this is also a love story with the twist, or even a really bad sprain.

Just gloriously daft nonsense or is there a deeper meaning? Every man has his price. Sainsburys, where good food costs less.

Here at RadioTimes.com , we consider ourselves to be somewhat connoisseurs of the pun; however, when it comes to the true master of the pun, there's only one who could take the crown.

With his wacky hair and wackier shirts, Milton Jones is an instantly recognisable comedy icon. Known for his plethora of puns and one-liners, as well as his absurd style of comedy, Milton Jones has been a regular fixture on some of the top comedy shows, including Mock The Week and Live at the Apollo.

Now, the 59-year-old is embarking on a UK and Ireland tour, which is sure to be packed full of his signature clever wordplay to groan-inducing dad jokes.

Despite its title HA!Milton, fans of musical theatre shouldn't get ahead of themselves, as we've already been assured that this is most definitely not a musical. According to the king of the one-liner himself: "This is not a musical. I am tone deaf and have no sense of rhythm, but at least I don’t make a song and dance about it. This is a whole new show of daftness. You know it makes sense."

As to what the show will touch on, all we know is that you can expect to hear something about giraffes and something about tomatoes – intriguing.

From September to December 2024, Milton will be hitting up venues from Plymouth to Newcastle Upon Tyne (although unfortunately he won't be visiting HA!Milton Keynes). Here's how you can get tickets to see him on tour.

REVIEW: Anything’s possible in a one-liner when Milton Jones spies a gag

milton jones tour support act

REVIEW: Milton Jones: Milton Impossible, York Barbican, February 22

THE whole point of camouflage is not to be spotted, but in his new guise as an ex-MI5 spy, Milton Jones’s gaudy military fatigues looked like they hadn’t slept for days.

As for his fuchsia, frilly dress shirt, it would have guaranteed he had absolutely no fuchsia in spying, if blending into the background were a requirement. Definitely a case of Milton Impossible.

Mind you, Jones’s attire was not the only sartorial talking point of Saturday’s triple bill. Support act Tom Houghton was gently settling into revelations of being the Honourable Tom – now that his ex-Army chief father, General Sir Nicholas Houghton, was a Lord and the Constable of the Tower of London – when he was distracted by a Technicolor nightmare of a shirt making an even louder exit down the stairs.

“You’ve missed nothing,” said Houghton, lobbing a comedy bomb after the escapee. “Except fashion”. Boom, off went the bomb, as if he were sentencing him to the Tower for a fashion crime.

Cheeky, charming, posh-boy fledgling comic Houghton went on to define the rules of rugby – a game of backs and forwards and going backwards and forwards – with a wit that outwitted the well-worn tea towel trying to explain the laws of cricket.

“I always love to help underprivileged children,” said Jones drily later, but Houghton, one quarter of the improv comedy troupe The Noise Next Door, needs no leg-up through entitlement. Check out his upcoming tour at The Basement, City Screen, York, on June 12 or The Carriageworks, Leeds, the next night.

Before Hon Tom, Milton’s waspish “grandfather” had opened the show, entering with a trampoline as his mobility aide, and combining a flat cap with a dressing gown for a dressing down on the real meaning of assorted familiar road signs.

If you could imagine a hopelessly ill-prepared learner driver trying to wing his written test with wild guesswork, Milton’s grandad goes even further. Rather than being merely daft or surrealist, however, the new meanings actually make weird sense, and the world would be a happier place if they were true.

Although, in this city of cycling, cyclists might not have enjoyed his dig at them not recognising the meaning of a red light.

Post-interval, Jones returned, his shock of hair madder than ever at 55, to go with the aforementioned psychedelic dress code. Seventy-five minutes of the matador of piercing one-liners ensued, ostensibly on his spying past, but ranging far and wide, his timing deadly, his manner deadpan. (Ideal qualities for a spy, you might say).

From his last tour, the Kew comedian revived his droll Brexit commentary through the novel format of national flags engaging in sparring conversations, each seeking the last word, and no Jones show would be complete without a run of “my other grandfather” gags.

Before the tour, Jones joked: “At a difficult time for our country, I believe there’s a chance this show could unite the nation. Admittedly quite a small chance.” True, but Milton is comedy paradise found, and you wish more could see the world through his eyes. It is a lovely place to be, warmly knowing but not devoid of a child’s sense of wonder, playful, not cynical, absurd yet spot on.

If you missed Milton Impossible in York, your next mission, and you really should accept it, is to make it to Hull City Hall on March 18 or Leeds Town Hall the next night, 19.30 on the dot. Box office: hulltheatres.co.uk; leedstownhall.co.uk.

News: Rescheduled Milton Jones Tour Announced

Milton Jones's tour dates have been rescheduled for 2021 and tickets are on sale now.

The original dates of his tour, Milton: Impossible, were postponed midway through its run earlier this year. Now, Milton will bring his unique style and increasingly eccentric shirts to venues across the UK, beginning in Worthing on 10th February, with further dates to be announced in due course.

In Milton: Impossible the TV regular will reveal the truth behind having once been an international spy. This is a love story with a twist, or at least a really bad sprain. Is it all just gloriously daft nonsense, or is there a deeper meaning? Every man has his price. Sainsbury’s, where good food costs less.

Milton Jones said previously: “Maybe I shouldn’t have called it Milton Impossible. 'Milton Quite Possible Eventually, Even if Takes Slightly Longer Than Envisaged’ may have been a more accurate title, if slightly less catchy. I don’t think I caused the pandemic though, I’m sure I washed my hands. Yeah, pretty sure.”

Milton’s last sell-out tour, Milton Jones Is Out There, was seen by over one hundred thousand people, with an entire leg of extra shows added to cater to demand, underlining his position as one of the UK and Ireland’s most popular comedians. Milton has co-written and performed in twelve of his own radio series for BBC Radio 4 and in 2012 Another Case of Milton Jones won the Silver Sony Award for Best Comedy.

He won the Perrier Best Newcomer Award, is the winner of two Sony Awards, a Writers Guild Award nominee and his radio show Very World of Milton Jones was nominated for a British Comedy Award. Milton has also released three hugely successful live DVDs - Milton Jones – The Universe Tour. Part One – Earth Milton Jones Live, The Lion Whisperer and On the Road.

Milton Jones at the Royal Concert Hall: Review

Milton Jones didn't falter once

It can't be easy being a one-liner comedian. and not only having to remember everything but also having to come up with a new act every year.

Television and DVD releases are there to draw a line for the comic to start again.

Sometimes what you see in a five minute blast on a panel show or Apollo-style showcase is the best they have to offer and (mentioning no names) the live experience can drag thanks to too much need for padding.

Although I was apprehensive about whether or not Milton Jones could pull off such a show, my fears didn't take long to subside.

Part of the reason the show didn't sag in the middle was down to a support act in the first half, after Jones himself had done some trademark silliness dressed as Great Britain.

If Milton Jones had been responsible for the whole show it might have been hard to come back from an interval and still be firing on all cylinders.

The support comic Craig Stokes did a fine job of warming up the crowd, although I did feel a stooge had been planted when two people from his home town started joining in.

Once we were back in our seats, Milton Jones didn't falter once, not even during a strange conversation between flags in a wheelie bin (you had to be there).

There was a narrative arc of sorts with voicemails from his new PR asking him to talk about a range of subjects rather than just firing off gag after gag.

With just a minimal amount of props to work with he was out on his own and holding court brilliantly with a skill for remembering jokes based on a particular subject that hasn't been seen since the late great Bob Monkhouse.

Milton Jones: Christianity, comedy and changing perspectives

milton jones tour support act

Likening himself to "a car that breaks down a lot, but is happy to try and give lifts", comedian Milton Jones spoke to  LICC  about his faith, sharing it, and how God can take a joke.

Describing his faith, Jones said, "I believe in God because of a gut feeling that the universe is not just a massive fluke."

After "outing" himself as a Christian during his teenage years, the comedian said he has had "a sense of peace and purpose, an inner force guiding and taking care of me."

Without this security, he might not have gone into comedy at all. "I don't think I would have had the courage to... on my own," he said.

Contrary to the idea that comedy and religion fail to happily co-exist, Jones said, "It's easy to see the church as a sort of bullied boy in the playground that won't fight back.

"But God is big enough to take criticism or take a joke. There's something pretty insecure about feeling the need to do God's work or protect him."

On the comedy circuit there is "quite a softness towards 'thinking' Christianity" and many comedians come from Christian backgrounds," Jones added.

"Ultimately a lot of comedy is dealing with the truth, about life and what it's all about. The same is true of faith."

Jones said that his faith has been central to his road to comedy, but also key to sustaining him during the good and bad times that touring inevitably brings.

"On a good day I love being able to enjoy the moment, while knowing that this isn't all there is," he said.

"I think that's a key thing about being a Christian in any environment, not just comedy – it changes your whole outlook because no matter how bad (or even good) things are, you know that there is more to life.

  • Straight-talking Jesus: There's no one-size-fits-all way of evangelism
  • How not to evangelise in the workplace
  • Miracles in mission: Tearfund's Matthew Frost on loving his neighbour and trusting God

"It gives you a completely different perspective. And it helps me not to hold any success too tightly."

Recalling one failed attempt to share his faith, he said he "once stood in my local high street and asked God to reveal people's names to me so that I could start a conversation with them.

"The 'conversation' went something like. "Hey is your name John? No? Peter? Colin... hey come back!'"

Rather than words on a stage, or one off encounters, Jones said, for him "it's more about the people I'm with and the way I conduct myself in that environment.

"I'm on tour with a manager and a support act and a promoter and an agent, in a car, 12 hours a day, five days a week. There's no hiding there.

"If you say nice words but you're a pig during the week, that will come out. So that's really where the cutting edge is rather than the words. The words are 2 per cent.

"At the end of the day I'm committed to the comedy community and I'll have ups and downs with them. Yes, I do speak to people about God occasionally, but it's about being with them and loving them where they are and that's a long term thing. That's my responsibility."

Milton Jones was interviewed by LICC as part of their 'Messengers of the Gospel'  series seeking to encourage and equip Christians in evangelism in the run up to Christmas.

James Acaster is ‘One of comedy’s most original voices’ (Evening Standard). A whimsical master, he has received acclaim from around the world, including a record breaking 5 consecutive nominations for ‘Best Comedy Show’ at the 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 & 2016 Edinburgh Fringe Festivals. In 2017 he toured the country with a staggering three show ‘Trelogy’, performing Recognise, Represent and Reset consecutively over three nights in each venue.

These three shows and Recap form his Netflix four part series, Repertoire. It was the first of its kind, a stand up mini series with an overarching narrative, and James is the first UK comic to shoot more than one Netflix Original special. In 2017 James released his debut book Classic Scrapes which made the Sunday Times bestseller list. James’ second book “Perfect Sound Whatever” also made the Sunday Times bestseller list in 2019.

In 2019 James completed a mammoth long tour of his hugely successful show “Cold Lasagne Hate Myself 1999” around the UK, Australia and America. James also has two hit podcasts “Off Menu” which he hosts with Ed Gamble, and ‘Perfect Sounds’ both of which are regulars on the iTunes top 10 List.

Tim Vine announces new tour Breeeep!

Friday 11th November 2022, 4:47pm

  • Tim Vine has announced an extensive new stand-up tour for 2023
  • Breeeep! will be staged from April to September and tickets are on sale now

Tim Vine returns to the stage next year with his brand new stand-up show Breeeep! .

The significant run of dates run between April and September 2023 .

Tickets go on sale today and can be found through timvine.com

Expect a mountain of nonsense. One-liners, stupid things, crazy songs, and wobbly props (plus utter drivel). Tim's like the manager of a sweet shop where all the sweets are replaced by jokes, and he serves them in a random order. So it's like a sweet shop where the manager just throws sweets at you. Enjoy the foolishness and laugh your slip-ons off.

Promoters say: "He has recently finished touring Plastic Elvis , his Elvis tribute act. But with Breeeep! , Tim's back to what he does best: telling silly jokes, singing daft songs, and waving mad props akimbo.

"SAFETY ANNOUNCEMENT: Please remember to breathe between laughs."

Support acts announced for Tom Jones’ Audley End concert

Heritage Live has announced that Storry, Tamzene, and Germein will perform as support to Tom Jones at English Heritage’s Audley End House & Gardens in Saffron Walden, Essex, on Sunday, August 6.

Tom Jones is to perform at Audley End this summer

Canadian singer-songwriter and visual artist Storry is a two-time Juno-nominated artist and opera trainee. Her debut album Chapter III: The Come Up , was nominated for a Juno award for Adult Contemporary Album of the Year, alongside the likes of Celine Dion and Alanis Morrisette.

Also taking to the stage will be Scottish singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Tamzene. Her unique mix of her Jamaican and Irish heritage have encouraged a style that blends her soul, folk and jazz influences together.

Tamzene’s debut EP Details takes on topics from family, love and long-distance relationships to questions about race and identity in a social media age.

Kicking things off will be Australian pop collective Germein. The group consists of three siblings, Georgia (lead vocals/guitar), Ella (bass/cello) and Clara Germein (percussion/back vocals).

Having toured Europe, Australia, New Zealand and China, the Germein sisters have won Most Popular Pop Artists in the South Australian Music Awards, twice.

Singing legend Tom Jones will return to headline the event after demand in 2022 could have seen the concert sold out several times over.

Heritage Live organiser Giles Cooper said: “Last year’s show by Tom Jones at Audley End was so special for everyone in attendance. To be able to have him perform once again as part of our concert series for 2023 is truly wonderful.
