Herlene Budol's win as Miss Philippines Tourism 2023 marred by franchise issue?

miss tourism international 2023 philippines

World Philippines, Miss Omninational Philippines, and Miss Summit International Philippines."

Si Herlene ay kinoronahang Miss Philippines Tourism 2023 sa katatapos na Miss Grand Philippines 2023 coronation night noong July 13, 2023.

Read: Herlene Budol makes it to Top 15 of Miss Grand Philippines 2023; bags five special awards

Sabi rito: "We would like to inform the parties concerned that all contracts, agreements, covenants, and memorandums made prior to February 18, 2023, including franchise agreements, are considered null and void.

"This includes any franchises that have utilized the tradenames, logos, and music of Hiyas Ng Pilipinas and its affiiliates including but not limited to Miss Tourism World Philippines, Miss Omninational Philippines, and Miss Summit International Philippines.

"Effective immediately, all previous franchise holders are required to cease the use of the tradenames, logos, music, and any intellectual property associated with Hiyas ng Pilipinas in their operations.

"We kindly request your full and prompt cooperation in this matter.

"Otherwise, we will be constrained to file the appropriate legal actions to enforce our rights and seek remedies for incurred damages."

PH bets score back-to-back wins in international tilts in Malaysia, Thailand

 Jeanette Reyes

MANILA, Philippines — Two Filipino contenders posted back-to-back victories for the country in separate international competitions held in neighboring Southeast Asian countries in the same evening on Saturday, Nov. 25.

RJ De Vera scored a second consecutive win for the Philippines in just the second edition of the Man Hot Star International contest held at the Sansuk Grand Hall of Bangsaen Heritage Hotel in Chon Buri, Thailand. He succeeded his Misters of Filipinas predecessor Jovy Bequillo who won in the global tilt’s inaugural search held last year.

Just hours after De Vera’s triumph, Mutya ng Pilipinas Jeanette Reyes inherited the Miss Tourism Metropolitan International crown from Filipino queen Angelica Pantaliano at the 2023 Miss Tourism International pageant held at the Sabah International Convention Centre in Sabah, Malaysia. The new queen was also proclaimed as Miss Southeast Asia Tourism Ambassadress.

Thailand, meanwhile, also scored back-to-back finishes when Tia Li Taveepanichpan inherited the top title of Miss Tourism International from her compatriot Suphatra Kliangprom who won in last year’s competition.

Another Filipino contender finished second in the 2023 Man Hot Star International competition, Kristzan Karlo Delos Santos, who represented the United States in the global tilt. He was also first runner-up in the 2022 Mister Grand International contest held in Trinidad and Tobago, where he represented the Philippines.

Three other queens were crowned at the 2023 Miss Tourism International pageant — Miss Tourism Queen of the Year International Emily Cossey from the United Kingdom, Miss Tourism Cosmopolitan International Jen Cheang Shi Hui from Malaysia, and Miss Tourism Global Karlee Davis from Australia

Jeanette Reyes

Reyes’ accomplishment sustained the Mutya ng Pilipinas pageant’s target of scoring a grand slam this year, aiming to earn international titles from all of the representatives deployed in 2023. Before her, Annie Uson and Shannon Robinson were crowned Miss Chinese World and Miss Environment International, respectively.

The Philippines has also asserted its dominance in the Malaysia-based Miss Tourism International pageant, being the best-performing country with five top winners — Peachy Manzano in 2000, the late Rizzini Alexis Gomez in 2013, Angeli Dione Gomez in 2014, TV5 news anchor Jannie Loudette Alipo-on in 2017, and Cyrille Payumo in 2019.

Several other Mutya queens also scored subsidiary titles other than Reyes and Pantaliano. Glennifer Perido was also crowned Miss Tourism Metropolitan International in 2014, the same title the two recent queens received. Kapamilya actress and host Aya Fernandez was proclaimed Dreamgirl of the Year International in 2018, while A2Z News Director Barbie Salvador-Muhlach was hailed as Miss Tourism Cosmopolitan in 2010.

MANILA, Philippines – The Top 7 Miss International 2023 candidates took center stage for the question and answer portion on the pageant’s finals night on Thursday, October 26, at the Yoyogi Gymnasium No. 2 in Tokyo, Japan.

The final seven beauty queens were asked to choose a random number corresponding to a question from a ballot box. Here are the questions and their respective answers:

Sofía Osío Luna, Colombia

Beauty pageants have been evolving with time. What is one thing about Miss International that you do not want to be changed and why?

I believe the most important thing that Miss International pageant should preserve is its essence, its values, and its mission to keep advocating for cultural independence, for cultural integration, for peace. And I believe, coming from a national pageant in Colombia, it’s very important to promote our culture. That is something that Miss International organization has done from its beginning. I believe Miss International is an advocate for peace, for happiness, for love, for friendship, and this is what it should maintain. I believe Miss International is an inspiration to every woman, to every dreamer, and it promotes our social development.

Andrea Rubio, Venezuela

Five years from now, how do you see yourself in terms of professional or career advancement, and what are you doing to achieve it?

In five years, I see myself as an independent woman who works with her communication skills. Being here, Miss International is going to allow me to get this platform and to show all women they can deserve what they dream. I’ve been working with the SDG number 5, in equality of genders and empowerment of girls. That’s what I want to do to spread the message of Miss International and to keep a little bit of Japan and to show it to the whole world.

Nicole Borromeo, Philippines

The Sustainable Development Goals or SDGs by the United Nations have targets that are set to be achieved by 2030. What have you done so far in terms of SDG s ‘ initiatives?

As someone who experienced the wrath of natural disasters, home is everything. I’ve worked tirelessly with Habitat for Humanity under the SDG goal of number 11, sustainable cities and communities. It is through this volunteer work that I could see in the face of the children how much they wanted to help, how much they wanted to be a part of the future. Because when it comes to sustainability, we must keep in mind that it’s not only for the next generation, but to include them in the process.

Itzia Garcia, Mexico

You have been here in Japan for nearly two weeks. What valuable lesson have you learned during your stay here in Japan?

Since I arrived here to Japan, I noticed the welcoming people and the kindness that they have. That is one thing that I will want to bring to Mexico and also how they love their culture. I want to invite all of you to come to Japan and see the beauty in this place. I think it’s amazing how all of you like and care about every single one of us that came here.

Supaporn Ritthipruek, Thailand

Share with us two things about your country that you want the people around the world to know about, and what have you done to promote it?

In Thailand, we have many interesting thing. We have delicious food, we have many beautiful places, and especially, in Thailand, people are very kind and friendly and respectful. I have done a lot to promote Thailand many thing. I also gave Ya Dom inhaler to many contestants here because it’s very famous in Thailand. And also, I want to invite you to Thailand because I’m sure that you will love Thailand as I love and Thailand welcome you like your second home.

Vanessa Hayes Schutt, Bolivia

With more than 60 years of history, what do you think is the most significant contribution of the Miss International beauty pageant and why?

I believe that Miss International in the past 60 years has not only cultivated culture and the beauty of women. Instead, they have cultivated the essence of women, their traditions, and culture. I also believe that Miss International is more than a beauty pageant because they changed their life completely. Because Miss International improves the life of women who are in this beauty pageant.

Camila Diaz Daneri, Peru

Women empowerment has been a global movement for several years. What do you think is empowering about joining beauty pageants?

I think beauty pageants empower women in many ways. They give us a platform, a voice, to inspire other who think we represent them. It also helps us break stereotypes between intelligence and beauty, and we can have a voice and share some positive messages, ideas, many issues, and we can help the world and create a better environment. Even standing here in front of all of you is so empowering. Thank you so much for this experience.  – Rappler.com

Sharing the limelight in the ongoing Miss Universe Philippines 2024 pageant are two new faces. Baguio’s Justine Tarah Marie Valencia and Pangasinan’s Grace Jineah Lumague have been gaining a strong following and may spring a surprise at coronation night.

Valencia, a stunning Cordilleran beauty, emerges as a dark horse in this year’s competition. A graduate with a degree in International Hospitality and Tourism Management from the University of Baguio, Valencia took on a part-time job while studying to help provide for her family after her father’s passing when she was 19 years old.

She won Miss Hotel and Restaurant Association of Baguio 2023 and Miss Beautéderm-Miss Baguio Turismo 2023, which allowed her to introduce the passion for promoting Baguio’s tourism industry. Valencia aims to showcase her province’s rich and unique traditions on the international stage while advocating for preserving Baguio’s delicate ecosystem and sustainable tourism practices.

Lumague, 22, was recently appointed as representative of Pangasinan by an accredited partner and organizer of Mutya ng Pozorrubio. She is currently pursuing a Nursing degree at the University of Baguio following in the footsteps of her parents who are both working in the medical field.

Joining the Mutya ng Pozorrubio 2024 and Miss University of Baguio, Lumague said she was able to use them as a platform to lay out her advocacies on women’s rights and the welfare of the sick and less fortunate. She is a member of the Philippine Red Cross Youth – University of Baguio doing health-related activities and also joined the Leknaan Ya Pozorrubio, Inc., an NGO doing outreach programs and giving medical assistance to Pozorrubio.
