How to watch Tour de France live stream — 2023 stages and schedule

The world’s greatest cycle race is underway!

Tadej Pogacar racing Jonas Vinegaard up a hill

Watch Tour de France: live streams

Watch tour de france 2023: preview.

This year’s Tour de France is less ‘La Grande Boucle’ (The Big Loop) and more a giant belt around the country’s waist. Riding west to east the ‘Grand Depart’ took place outside France for the second year in a row across the border in the Basque Country in northern Spain. Make sure you know how to watch a Tour de France free live stream from anywhere.

From here the race is headed west through the Pyrenees across legendary mountains such as the Col du Soudet and the mighty Col du Tourmalet before heading to the Massif Central and a return to the iconic Puy de Dome. Not climbed since 1988 this dormant volcano will provide a spectacular arena for the culmination of stage 9 and the end of the long first week.

Continuing west to The Jura mountains there is a summit finish on top of the Grand Colombier and then two days later another summit finish in the Alps at Saint-Gervais Mont-Blanc. With just one time trial on the route: a 22km mainly uphill test on stage 16. This is without doubt a race for the climbers whose battles will finish in the forested peaks of The Vosges on the slopes of the evil Col du Platzerwasel.

As for the contenders, the two main protagonists, Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates) and Jonas Vinegaard (Jumbo-Visma) are on paper so far ahead of anyone else that the rest appear to be just support actors.

Vinegaard’s dominant display at the recent Critérium du Dauphiné, where he won at a canter, suggests he is in the same sparkling form that saw him take last year’s race but the condition of his great rival Pogačar is not so certain.

The Slovenian he hasn’t raced since he crashed in Liège-Bastogne-Liège on April 23, breaking his wrist. Until that point pretty much all he had to do was to start a race to win it. His return of 12 victories from 19 starts is remarkable in the modern age but having not raced for so long will he be back at his very best?

The final stage of the Tour is half procession and half eyeballs out racing up and down the cobbles of the Champs Elysée. What starts with photo opportunities and glasses of champagne ends with the most highly prized sprint stage in front of the thousands that line the route. Hitting the famous boulevard the peloton as is tradition was all together but not for long as the irrepressible Tadej Pogacar decided to shake things up and go out on the attack.

Could he defy the might of the peloton and take the unlikeliest of victories? Also no, and he wasn’t the last to try and audacious attack before everything came back to gather for a final mass gallop to the line. All eyes were on Jasper Phillipsen, this year’s sprint king but just as it looked like he had got it, across surged Jordi Meeus (Bora-Hansgrohe) to take his first ever stage win, and what a stage to do it on.

Yellow jersey wearer Jonas Vingegaard crossed the line a few seconds later flanked by his whole team, his second victory in two years confirmed, which in the end was a very comfortable one and looks likely to be the foundation of a period of total dominance.

In the run up to the start of the race we'll be Take a more detailed look at the 2023 Tour de France teams , their key riders and objectives for the three weeks at the bottom of the page.

Tour de France teams and riders 2023

UAE Team Emirates

Cycling’s Galacticos. A team of leaders and winners all here to ride in service of one rider, the world’s current best, Tadej Pogacar. Beaten into second place last year after he cracked on the Col de Granon, ‘Pog’ will be out for revenge this year and it would take a brave man to bet against him taking his third title.

RIDERS: Felix GROßSCHARTNER, Vegard Stake LAENGEN, Mikkel BJERG, Matteo TRENTIN, Tadej POGAČAR, Adam YATES, Marc SOLER and Rafał MAJKA

Israel–Premier Tech

NO CHRIS FROOME! That was the shock headline, but let’s be honest ONLY Chris Froome thought he was going to be on the start line. Micheal Woods and Dylan Teuns are the riders most likely to deliver but they will need the rub of the green to pull off a stage win, but dreams do come true at the Tour.

RIDERS: Michael WOODS, Nick SCHULTZ, Corbin STRONG, Krists NEILANDS, Hugo HOULE, Guillaume BOIVIN, Simon CLARKE and Dylan TEUNS.

Lotto–Dstny

Once upon a time Lotto–Dstny could rely upon Victor Campenaerts to win from a solo break or Caleb Ewan to take a sprint stage but no longer. Although these scenarios are both still a possibility they will more likely be looking to younger members of their team to make it into a break and bring home a win for the Belgian team.

RIDERS: Jacopo GUARNIERI, Frederik FRISON, Pascal EENKHOORN, Jasper DE BUYST, Victor CAMPENAERTS, Florian VERMEERSCH, Caleb EWAN, Maxim VAN GILS

Team TotalEnergies

Gone are the days when Peter Sagan just had to turn up to take the green points jersey such was his dominance, but even the brightest stars fade and in his last Tour it’s unfortunate that he will be little more than a footnote. Unless, that is there is one final bit of magic left in those legs and oh how the cycling fans would love to see that.

RIDERS: Mathieu BURGAUDEAU, Edvald BOASSON HAGEN, Steff CRAS, Valentin FERRON, Pierre LATOUR, Daniel OSS, Peter SAGAN and Anthony TURGIS.

Uno-X Pro Cycling Team

Made up entirely of Danes and Norwegians this is the first Tour de France for Uno-X and led by their aging talisman the great Alexander Kristoff they will be keen to leave a mark on it. Young stars Søren Wærenskjold and Torstein Træen will also be keen to show that the Norwegian team are here on merit and justify their selection.

RIDERS: Jonas ABRAHAMSEN, Jonas GREGAARD, Anthon CHARMIG, Søren WÆRENSKJOLD, Torstein TRÆEN, Alexander KRISTOFF, Rasmus TILLER and Tobias Halland JOHANNESSEN.

Alpecin–Deceuninck

In the recent Netflix Tour de France documentary series Jasper Philipsen was referred to as Alpecin–Deceuninck’s ‘Plan B’. This is no longer the case, he is well and truly ‘Plan A’ now, of course along with the ‘other Plan A’, the sensational Mathieu Van der Poel. A once in a generation rider who on his day can beat anyone at anything.

RIDERS: Mathieu VAN DER POEL, Jasper PHILIPSEN, Jonas RICKAERT, Silvan DILLIER, Ramon SINKELDAM, Quinten HERMANS, Søren KRAGH ANDERSEN, Michael GOGL.

EF Education–EasyPost

EF Education–EasyPost have a team full of winners, each one capable of getting in a break and taking a stage it’s just deciding who will get the chance each day. I’m sure Rigoberto URÁN and Richard CARAPAZ have aspirations of a high finish in Paris but I suspect reality will bite when the manure hits the fan and they will get dropped like a hot stone.

RIDERS: Alberto BETTIOL, Andrey AMADOR, Esteban CHAVES, Richard CARAPAZ, James SHAW, Magnus CORT, Rigoberto URÁN and Neilson POWLESS

Groupama–FDJ

This Tour is going to be Thibaut Pinot’s swan song, the darling of the French media came agonisingly close to winning the Tour but never delivered the victory the nation craves. He is on paper riding to support team leader David Gaudu but with a question mark the size of Paris hanging over the young French rider’s form maybe Pinot will be let off the leash for one last chance of glory before retirement.

RIDERS: Quentin PACHER, Olivier LE GAC, Lars VAN DEN BERG, Stefan KÜNG, Kevin GENIETS, Thibaut PINOT, David GAUDU and Valentin MADOUAS.

Ineos Grenadiers

With uncertaintly over whether Egan Bernal will ever get back to his best after his near fatal crash in 2022 team Ineos turn up to the Tour not looking at the overall victory for probably the first time in 10 years. The priority will be hunting stages, unless that is the talented Tom Pidcock can get into the mix because we really do not yet know the limits of his abilities.

RIDERS: BERNAL Egan, Ben TURNER, Omar FRAILE, Daniel Felipe MARTÍNEZ, Thomas PIDCOCK, Michał KWIATKOWSKI, Carlos RODRÍGUEZ and Jonathan CASTROVIEJO

Intermarché–Circus–Wanty

All eyes are on their star rider Biniam GIRMAY to see if he can deliver the first African stage win. He has already proved himself a champion but will have his work cut out in sprints to beat the other feast men. WIth the backing of a whole continent though this could inspire him to make history in this year’s event.

RIDERS: Dion SMITH, Biniam GIRMAY, Louis MEINTJES, Mike TEUNISSEN, Adrien PETIT, Georg ZIMMERMANN, Rui COSTA and Lilian CALMEJANE.

Lidl - Trek

The young Mattias Skjelmose could be in the hunt for the third step on the podium if he still has the form he shown at the Tour de Suisse this but it’s likely Lidl - Trek will find the most success hunting stages. Led by their former world champion Mads Pedersen they also have a very good hand of cards to play whether it be Skjelmose or Ciccone in the hight mountains or Pedersen, Simmons and Stuyven on tough lumpy stages.

RIDERS: Tony GALLOPIN, Giulio CICCONE, Quinn SIMMONS, Mattias SKJELMOSE, Juan Pedro LÓPEZ, Alex KIRSCH, Jasper STUYVEN and Mads PEDERSEN

Movistar Team

Movistar will be hoping Enric Mas is at his very best as he will need to be if he wants to try and challenge Pogacar and Vingegaard. He did show signs of very good form earlier in the year but has since gone off the boil a bit.

RIDERS: Antonio PEDRERO, Gregor MÜHLBERGER, Alex ARANBURU, Gorka IZAGIRRE, Matteo JORGENSON, Nelson OLIVEIRA, Ruben GUERREIRO and Enric MAS.

Soudal–Quick-Step

With Remco Evenepole rested, Soudal–Quick-Step don’t have a rider for the general classification so their main focus will be to deliver Fabio Jakobsen to the front on sprint days and hope the mercurial Julian Alaphilippe can re-find the form that once made him the most exciting rider on the planet.

RIDERS: Andrea BAGIOLI, Fabio JAKOBSEN, Julian ALAPHILIPPE, Rémi CAVAGNA, Yves LAMPAERT, Mauri VANSEVENANT, Florian SÉNÉCHAL and Michael MØRKØV.

Team Bahrain Victorious

With newly crowned British champion Fred Wright and the ever-aggressive Matej Mohoric leading their hunt for stages, and Jack Haig aiming to get in the mix for the overall, Bahrain Victorious have many cards to play.

RIDERS: Jack HAIG, Phil BAUHAUS, Nikias ARNDT, Wout POELS, Pello BILBAO, Matej MOHORIČ, Mikel LANDA and Fred WRIGHT.

Team DSM–Firmenich

Once again the French will be dreaming of Romain Bardet stood on the top step of the podium in Paris but, alas, I’m afraid it’s very unlikely this will happen. Expect him to shine in the mountain stages and if he is VERY lucky he could get a win but the best he can really hope for is a top 10 finish.

RIDERS: Chris HAMILTON, Alex EDMONDSON, Kevin VERMAERKE, John DEGENKOLB, Sam WELSFORD, Matthew DINHAM, Romain BARDET and Nils EEKHOFF.

Team Jayco–AlUla

Team Jayco–AlUla take a two pronged attack to the Tour with Dylan Groenewegen favorite for the sprint stages and Simon Yates hoping to be in the mix for a very high finish in Paris.

RIDERS: Christopher JUUL-JENSEN, Elmar REINDERS, Chris HARPER, Luke DURBRIDGE, Lawson CRADDOCK, Dylan GROENEWEGEN, Simon YATES and Luka MEZGEC.

Team Jumbo–Visma

Jumbo Visma have an embarrassment of riches, a team stacked with world class winners, all of whom are there with the sole aim of ensuring Jonas Vingegaard takes his second win after last year's success. Their main problem, like last year, will be keeping their talent in check and ensuring they play the team game and don’t go rogue.

RIDERS: Wilco KELDERMAN, Christophe LAPORTE, Tiesj BENOOT, Wout VAN AERT, Dylan VAN BAARLE, Nathan VAN HOOYDONCK, Sepp KUSS and Jonas VINGEGAARD.

AG2R Citroën Team

AG2R will be throwing all their weight behind their star rider, the Australian Ben O’Connor. Fourth in the 2021 Tour de France and third in this year’s Criterium du Dauphine, he will fancy his chances of being in the mix for a very high placed finish.

RIDERS: Ben O’CONNOR, Nans PETERS, Oliver NAESEN, Benoît COSNEFROY, Aurélien PARET-PEINTRE, Felix GALL, Clément BERTHET and Stan DEWULF.

Arkéa–Samsic

Arkéa–Samsic’s best hope of a successful Tour will be somehow getting a win from a breakaway with French favorite Warren Barguil their best hope of delivering this goal.

RIDERS: Laurent PICHON, Simon GUGLIELMI, Jenthe BIERMANS, Warren BARGUIL, Luca MOZZATO, Clément CHAMPOUSSIN, Anthony DELAPLACE and Matis LOUVEL.

Astana Qazaqstan Team

Alexey Luttsenko is Astana’s best hope for the overall classification but even the most optimistic fan won’t really believe he has a chance of victory. The main goal for the team, from a British perspective that is, is for Mark Cavendish to win his prized 35th stage.

RIDERS: Harold TEJADA, Gianni MOSCON, Alexey LUTSENKO, Yevgeniy FEDOROV, Mark CAVENDISH, Cees BOL, David DE LA CRUZ and Luis León SÁNCHEZ.

Bora–Hansgrohe

Jai Hindley, the 2022 Giro d’Italia winner should be well in the mix for a spot on the podium but he is still a way off the level needed to compete for the win. Stranger things have happened though so keep an eye on the young Aussie.

RIDERS: Marco HALLER, Patrick KONRAD, Bob JUNGELS, Jordi MEEUS , Emanuel BUCHMANN, Jai HINDLEY, Danny VAN POPPEL and Nils POLITT.

Much like Arkéa–Samsic, Cofids’ hopes lie in a win from a break with seasoned winners. Ion Izagirre, Guillaume Martin and Simon Geschke lead their charge. Also watch out for their sprinter Bryan Coquard who, on his day, if everything fell into place, could upset the bigger sprint names.

RIDERS: Alexis RENARD, Simon GESCHKE, Axel ZINGLE, Anthony PEREZ, Victor LAFAY, Bryan COQUARD, Ion IZAGIRRE and Guillaume MARTIN.

We're into the final day of this year's race, so a Tour de France stage 21 live stream is going to be a hot ticket if you want to watch the riders make their final journey into Paris. The Tour de France is free-to-air on ITVX (UK) and SBS On-Demand (AUS) . Make sure you know how to watch for free with a VPN from anywhere .

The 2023 Tour de France is coming to an end and stage 21 is the final chance for the sprinters to battle it out on Paris' most famous avenue, the Champs Élysées. All of the jerseys are wrapped up so we should see the typical champagne-filled procession in and around Paris.

The final stage begins at the Velodrome de Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines before setting off on the journey back into Paris where yellow jersey winner, Jonas Vingegaard, will no doubt enjoy some champagne on the road with his teammates. Once they hit the city, the peloton will pass the Arc de Triomphe and the Louvre multiple times before the wind-up for the final sprint begins. Alpecin-Deceuninck have been the best leadout unit at the 2023 Tour, with Jasper Philipsen winning four flat sprints. The flying Belgian should have Mathieu van der Poel and co. working to bring him to the final trip up the Champs Élysées safely before he looks to win the final Tour stage for the second year running. Groenewegen was closest to him last year and will be one of the other sprinters left after a brutal Tour trying to dethrone the green jersey wearer.

With one final stage remaining, it’s helpful to know there are plenty of channels around the world broadcasting Tour de France 2023 live streams to help you keep up with the last bit of action. Here's how to watch stage 21 of the Tour de France 2023 .

Tour de France stage 21: the route

Stage 21: Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines to Paris Champs-Élysées (Sunday, July 23) The final stage of the 2023 Tour de France is the typical processional stage in and around Paris. It starts at the Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines Velodrome which will play host to the track cycling at next year's Olympic Games, before looping back east towards the French capital. The 115.1km route is incredibly flat and only has one category four climb, but that won't threaten Giulio Ciccone's lead of the polka-dot classification. It's all set for the sprinters' royale on the Champs-Élysées with the fast men and leadouts ready to fight for position and battle for the win after completing nine laps of the Parisian circuit. The long finishing road on Paris's most famous avenue has long played host to the final Tour and was last won by Jasper Philipsen, holder of the green jersey, who will be the favourite for the day.

Race preview

The herculean GC battle Tour de France between leader Jonas Vingegaard (Jumbo-Visma) and second-placed Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates) ended on stage 16 and 17 with the Dane first delivering a stunning blow in the time trial before a knockout punch on the Col de la Loze.

Vingegaard has a comfortable lead in the Tour de France GC standings of 7:29 on Pogačar, winner of stage 20 , and 10:56 on the Slovenian's teammate Adam Yates.

The penultimate stage delivered the final skirmish for riders fighting to move up in the top 10 of the general classification. Simon Yates  (Jayco-AlUla) moved up to fourth overall while Carlos Rodríguez (Ineos Grenadiers) lost one spot and is now in fifth place.  Meanwhile, Giulio Ciccone (Lidl-Trek) sealed the KOM classification.

All eyes now turn to the sprinters whose biggest day of the year is the finish on the Champs Elysées in Paris.

Stage 18 live stream and how to watch Tour de France 2022 Lourdes to Hautacam for free online and on TV

With just four days to go the Tour tackles the toughest of the three Pyrenean stages

Jonas Vingegaard and Tadej Pogacar race for the line in the 2022 Tour de France

As the Tour reaches its final few days, the riders face one of the toughest challenges on the entire route. There are 143.2km between Lourdes and Hautacam, meaning it's far from the longest stage of the race, but with a Category 1 ascent sandwiched between two punishing HC climbs it presents a monstrous challenge to the remaining competitors. Here's how to watch a free Stage 18 live stream from the 2022 Tour de France wherever you are, as the riders head from Lourdes to Hautacam.

Date: Thursday 21st July

FREE stream: ITV4 (UK)

Watch anywhere: Try ExpressVPN risk-free

US stream: Peacock ($4.99/month)

AUS stream: SBS (free)

CAN stream: FloBikes ($12.50/month)

After a short but strenuous mountain stage from Saint-Gaudens to Peyragudes, things get serious on this year's final high-altitude challenge.

Stage 18 begins in Lourdes – the site of the famous pilgrimage – and some riders may need help from above to reach the end. After a fairly comfortable start, an intermediate sprint at Laruns is followed almost immediately by the stage's first – and longest – HC climb: the legendary 16.4km Col d'Aubisque, which peaks at a 10 percent gradient.

There's barely any respite before the riders are faced with the Category 1 Col de Spandelles, a new addition to the Tour that should present a real challenge to the climbers, before ending with another irregular ascent to the finish at the ski resort of Hautacam. It's going to be brutal.

Defending champion Tadej Pogacar managed to get the better of Jonas Vingegaard across yesterday's four categorised climbs, but the Dane still leads the pack by two minutes and 18 seconds. Can the Slovenian eat into it today?

Make sure you know how to get a free Stage 18 live stream from wherever you are in the world and watch the 2022 Tour de France .

Even if you have subscribed to the relevant 2022 Tour de France rights holders, you won't be able to access them when outside your own country. The service will know your location based on your IP address, and will automatically block your access.

A Virtual Private Network (VPN) helps you get around this obstacle. A VPN creates a private connection between your device and the internet, such that the servers and services you’re accessing aren’t aware of what you’re doing. All the information passing back and forth is entirely encrypted.

There are lots of VPN providers but some are more reliable and safe than others. As a rule, we suggest a paid-for service such as ExpressVPN which offers a 100 per cent risk-free money back guarantee. If you're not happy with the service any time within the first 30-days, then you can cancel with no penalties at all.

Try ExpressVPN risk-free for 30 days

How to watch the 2022 Tour de France, wherever you are in the world

If you aren’t lucky enough to soon be like one of the fortunate people in the above image watching Tour de France at the roadside this July, then sitting in front of the television will have to do.

It’s a summer (sorry Aus) tradition. Lazily sitting in your living room at the weekends watching the kilometres tick by, while in the office during the week (at least in the pre-Covid days) becoming highly skilled at switching tabs away from your chosen streaming site back to your work whenever your boss walks by.

With the Tour de France beginning in Copenhagen on Friday, July 1 and finishing in Paris on Sunday, July 24, here’s how to watch the three weeks of racing wherever you are in the world.

How to watch the Tour de France in…

First off, the NBCSN cable channel is no more and the NBC Sports Gold Cycling Pass has been discontinued. Instead, NBC has rolled its cycling coverage into the Peacock streaming service. The good news is it only costs $4.99 month-to-month, meaning you can cancel it as soon as Tadej Pogačar crosses the finish line in Paris to claim his third yellow jersey in a row at a canter. Hurrah! Alternatively, FloBikes will also be broadcasting the Tour on their platform at a cost of $12.50 a month.

Live-streaming services aside, the race will still be broadcast on the NBC-owned CNBC and USA television channels.

Cycling fans down under will be able to watch live coverage on SBS, with replays of each day’s stage also available on SBS On Demand every day. Their full TV schedule for each stage can be found on their website . Just make sure you don’t wake the baby at 3 am when Ben O’Connor wins the Alpe d’Huez stage and storms into the yellow jersey.

UK viewers can watch Messrs Imlach, Boulting et al. on ITV4, with their daily highlights show also airing every evening. GCN/Eurosport will also have their coverage featuring Bradley Wiggins chasing the peloton on a motorbike, while Welsh viewers will be able to watch the race on S4C.

Viewing on ITV, both on your physical television and via the magic-ness of online streaming, is free, as long as you can remember your ITV Hub password. Meanwhile, GCN+ costs £6.99 a month or £39.99 when you pay annually, with no ad breaks, while the same coverage will be broadcast on Eurosport’s freeview television channel.

Not sure what the situation is to be perfectly honest, but if you find yourself in the Bahamas then you don’t really have anything to complain about.

The aforementioned FloBikes will broadcast the 2022 Tour de France in Canada, eh. Come on Woodsy!

New Zealand

Sky Sport will likely be showing the Tour de France in New Zealand. The cable service costs NZ$26 per month and an extra NZ$32 per month on top for the Sky Sport package that you’ll need to watch the Tour. Worth it just to see Shane Archbold’s mullet though am I right?

Other territories

tour de france live streaming rai sport

GCN+ will only be showing the Tour de France in Europe and Asia-Pacific, excluding Australia, New Zealand, China and Japan. Here is a rundown of where you can find Tour de France coverage in other territories.

Tirreno-Adriatico 2024 live streams: How to watch the classic Italian stage race

Jonas Vingegaard and Tom Pidcock in action

Jonas Vingegaard (R) climbs to take the lead on the Tirreno-Adriatico

  • FREE live streams
  • Watch from anywhere

The 59th Tirreno-Adriatico starts Monday March 4th crossing the Apennine mountains to link the seas either side of Italy’s boot. Covering 945km with a time trial and two summit finishes, it will test the stage race credentials of all taking part not least those gearing up for bigger challenges such as the Tour de France and Giro d’Italia later in the year.

Read on and we'll show you how to watch Tirreno-Adriatico 2024 live streams from anywhere with a VPN , and potentially for FREE .

The Tirreno-Adriatico 2024 live streams take place between Monday March 4 and Sunday March 10. ►  Start time: Start times vary each day • FREE STREAMS — Sporza (Belgium) / Rai (Italy) •   U.S. — FloBikes •   U.K. — Discovery+ • Watch anywhere — Try ExpressVPN 100% risk free

Travelling west to east, linking the Tirreno and Adriatico across the spine of Italy, this seven-day stage race runs concurrently with Paris-Nice and although some detractors say this spreads the peloton too thin, on the other hand it allows the big stars the chance to avoid each other as they build their form.

Starting in the resort of Lido de Camaiore, this year’s race kicks off with the traditional short time trial along the pan flat seafront where the locals will be hoping Filippo Ganna (INEOS Grenadiers) can grab the first leader’s jersey. Leaving Camaiore the race begins its passage eastwards with a flat sprint stage followed by a brace of lumpy stages before entering higher territory in the Appennines. Stages five and six both feature summit finishes with the later up Monte Petrano, a 10.1km, 8.1% climb destined to decide the winner, if it’s not already in the bag by then.

The overwhelming favourite to take victory is the two time Tour de France winner Jonas Vingegaard (Team Visma | Lease a Bike). After his total domination of O Gran Camiño where he comfortably won all three stages it will take some effort to beat him but lining up for the challenge will be Adam Yates and Juan Ayuso (UAE Team Emirates), Ben O’Connor (Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale), Ben Healy (EF Education - EasyPost), Tao Geoghegan Hart (Lidl - Trek) and testing his stage race capabilities, Thomas Pidcock (INEOS Grenadiers).

A long and fairly uneventful stage three rolled out from Volterra letting a large break escape for the day. The last of them was caught with 20km to go and with the bunch together the race was waiting for the tough uphill sprint into Gualdo Tadino.

With the addition of gradient it meant it wasn’t for the pure sprinters and at the end of a hectic last few kilometres in was the German Phil Bauhaus (Team Bahrain Victorious) who took the win from Jonathan Milan (Lidl Trek).

Stage four is 207 kilometres from Arrone to Giulianova, coverage starts at 12.05 p.m. (GMT). Read on to see how you can catch the action wherever you live.

Safety, speed and simplicity combine to make ExpressVPN our favorite VPN service. It's also compatible with loads of devices and there's a 30-day money-back guarantee if you want to try it out.

Using a VPN is incredibly simple.

This is a pivotal event for Roglic for a multitude of reasons. The 2022 Paris-Nice winner's recent split from mighty Visma-Lease a Bike was fraught with risk, because Bora-Hansgrohe is simply nowhere near as strong. However, the switch gives him his best shot at landing a leading role at the Tour de France .

As well as being the first major one-week race of the year, the Paris-Nice is always seen as a miniature dress rehearsal for the Tour. This year the similarities are starker than ever, because the Tour will finish in Nice this summer, in order to avoid a clash with the Paris Olympics.

Starting off in freezing conditions in northern France, the Paris-Nice winds its way down to the French Riviera over the course of eight days. Highlights include the Stage 7 Queen stage, featuring a Cat 1 summit finish at Auron and, of course, the grueling climb up Col d’Eze on Stage 8.

Tour de France 2023 route, teams and how to watch on TV

E gan Bernal, the 2019 Tour de France champion, has been named in Ineos Grenadiers’ eight-man team for this year’s race which begins in Bilbao on Saturday. It will be the Colombian’s first grand tour since his life-threatening crash in January 2022.

Britain’s Tom Pidcock will also be making a return to the Tour, 12 months on from his famous victory atop Alpe d’Huez in the Queen stage of last year’s race.

Bernal, 26, crashed into the back of a bus while training in Colombia at the start of last year, sustaining horrific injuries including 11 broken ribs, a broken femur, kneecap, T5 and T6 vertebrae, C2 vertebrae, a metacarpal, and one broken thumb.

Following a low-key return to action last August, Bernal’s preparation this season has included outings at WorldTour races Volta a Catalunya, Itzulia Basque Country, Tour de Romandie and Critérium du Dauphiné.

Bernal finished 12th at the most recent of those, the Critérium du Dauphiné, nearly seven minutes down on last year’s Tour winner Jonas Vingegaard (Jumbo-Visma).

He is not expected to challenge Vingegaard or two-time Tour winner Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates), the two overwhelming favourites for this year’s yellow jersey.

Without Geraint Thomas, who finished second in the Giro d’Italia last month, or long-time road captain Luke Rowe, who has been omitted, the Ineos squad this year looks set up for stage-hunting, although Pidcock did say earlier this year that he wanted to try to stay up on general classification and to win stages against the top GC contenders.

Bernal said he was just happy to be back at the Tour again. “Making my return to the Tour has always been a major goal for me,” he said. “I’m so excited to be able to experience every kilometre of this race again.

“I’m sure many people have followed everything that has happened to me since my accident in January last year, and the journey I’ve been through to overcome the greatest test of my life. Being a part of this year’s Tour team reassures me that I’m on my way to returning to my best.”

Rod Ellingworth, deputy team principal at Ineos Grenadiers, did not set any targets for the Colombian beyond saying: “The whole team’s really thrilled for Egan, and everyone who’s supported him in his return to full fitness. It’s a demonstration of his character and resilience, and the extraordinary effort he’s put into his recovery over the past 18 months.”

Ineos Grenadiers Tour squad: Egan Bernal (Col), Tom Pidcock (GB), Daniel Martinez (Col), Michal Kwiatkowski (Pol), Omar Fraile (Spa), Carlos Rodriguez (Spa), Ben Turner (GB), Jonathan Castroviejo (Spa).

More on Ineos Grenadiers’ team.

What is the Tour de France?

The Tour de France is one of the three grand tours – the others being the Giro d’Italia and Vuelta a España – that form the backbone around which the cycling season is structured.

This is the biggest and most important bike race in the world, with an estimated 80 per cent of most WorldTour team’s sponsorship income being based around the Tour.

Founded in 1903 by Henri Desgrange, editor of L’Auto newspaper, the Tour may not be the favourite stage race of the cycling cognoscenti but it is one that captures the imagination of the wider sporting public. As a result, the race is the biggest annual sporting event in the world with more live spectators than even the Olympics or football World Cup.

When does the Tour de France start?

This 110th edition of the Tour de France starts with a 182km hilly stage starting and finishing in Bilbao on Saturday July 1, 2023. It is the second time The grand départ has taken place in the Basque Country before after previously starting in the autonomous region in 1992.

How long is this year’s Tour de France?

The second grand tour of the season comprises 21 stages and will be contested over 3,404 kilometres (2,115 miles). This year’s Tour consists of eight flat stages, four hilly stages, eight mountain stages with four summit finishes, one individual time trial and two rest days.

And when does the Tour de France finish?

The Tour de France concludes with its traditional final stage in Paris, on Sunday July 23. The race will again end on the famous cobbled Champs-Élysées boulevard following a 115.5km stage from Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines.

Where does each stage start and end?

How can i follow the race.

Those with subscriptions to Eurosport (through discovery+ Sport and Entertainment pass) or GCN+ are in luck, both will broadcast every day, as will ITV4 and Welsh terrestrial channel S4C. In Wales S4C is available on Sky 104, Freeview 4, Virgin TV 166 and Freesat 104, while in England, Scotland and Northern Ireland it can be found on Sky 134, Freesat 120 and Virgin TV 166 and also on iPlayer. Live shows and highlights programmes will be shown at different times each day. Alternatively, if you are stuck at work or do not subscribe to Eurosport if you have a sports package with the likes of Sky and BT or GCN+ – or cannot access S4C – then you can follow the action, as it unfolds, right here with Telegraph Sport.

Which teams will ride the Tour de France?

Twenty-two teams are scheduled to take part in the race. As with all WorldTour races, each team from the top-flight of professional cycling receive an invitation and in the case of the Tour de France, all 18 of them are contracted to compete in the grand tour. In addition they are joined by four UCI ProTeams – the two highest placed UCI ProTeams in 2022 (Lotto-Dstny and TotalEnergies), along with Uno-X Pro and Israel-Premier Tech who were selected by Amaury Sport Organisation (ASO), the organisers of the Tour.

Latest news

Tom Pidcock and Ben Turner will be flying the Union flag in the only British squad at the Tour, while Ineos Grenadiers has also included the hugely experienced Jonathan Castroviejo, Omar Fraile and Michal Kwiatkowski in its team.

Daniel Martínez may be the man to lead any slim hope the team has of competing for the general classification, while young Spaniard Carlos Rodríguez completes the eight-man line-up.

“I’m really excited to be back at the Tour de France for what promises to be another beautiful three weeks,” said Pidcock who won the Alpe d’Huez stage on his Tour debut last year.

“To win an iconic stage and wear the white jersey in 2022 are lifelong memories, and this year I want to build on that as I continue to progress my career. We’ve got an exciting group of riders and we’ll be looking to race with intent and be tactically smart, as we execute the plans we’ve developed as a team.

“As I experienced for the first time last year, the Tour is the toughest race of all, but it’s also the most beautiful and historic – which is what makes it so iconic. The opportunity to tackle it again alongside my teammates and some of the best riders in the world, in front of so many passionate fans, is one that I relish.”

Ellingworth, added: “Tom showed last year what a hugely exciting talent he is and his victory on Alpe d’Huez was just brilliant. We’re looking forward to seeing him progress once again, applying what he learned last year.

“In Kwiato, Dani, Castro and Omar we have an abundance of experience and skill – each one of these guys knows what it takes to win at the top level.

“For Carlos and Ben, both making their Tour de France debuts, this is a big moment, and one they’re both looking to absorb and embrace. They’re both top quality bike riders, so they’ll certainly be ready to grab any opportunities along the way.”

There was no surprise as Mark Cavendish was named in the Astana Qazaqstan squad as the Manxman lines up for his final Tour. The 38-year-old, who will retire at the end of the season, is targeting a stage win that would see him claim the all-time Tour record outright, having joined Eddy Merckx on 34 in 2021.

Meanwhile, on Sunday Fred Wright ended his wait for a professional win in style as he became British men’s road champion in Saltburn.

The popular 24-year-old paid a heartfelt tribute to Bahrain Victorious team-mate Gino Mäder, who died on June 16 following a crash at the Tour de Suisse , pointing to the sky as he crossed the line.

“There’s lot of emotions,” Wright said. “I’m thinking about a lot of things...I just wanted to enjoy the day because that’s what bike racing is about. I can’t stop getting emotional...

“[Gino] would have believed in me today, more than I would have believed in myself.”

Wright earned fans with have-a-go heroics that brought podium finishes from breakaways at the Tour de France and Vuelta a Espana last year, but had somehow still been awaiting victory at the top level.

But after he left behind James Knox and Stevie Williams on the last of 10 laps of a punishing course – including more than 3,500 metres of ascent – there would be no near miss this time.

Knox and Williams are purer climbers than Wright, but the 24-year-old Londoner rode smartly, attacking on the descent to the foot of Saltburn Bank, the short but steep final climb which provided the finale with gradients reaching 22 per cent.

“I was really pleased with the way I rode it,” Wright said. “I probably had the best legs of my life out there. I knew that compared to them I had to edge it on the downhill and the flat so I used that to my advantage to use as little energy as possible. It was just all guns blazing to the finish.

“I still can’t believe I’ve got my first professional win, it’s a monkey off my back. “I’ll go to the Tour with a lot of confidence,” he said. “I’ve won the national championships, I’m happy at the moment, and I’m going to keep trying.”
