One of the main reasons I travelled over 700 km to Volt Festival was because of Hurts. This was the fourth time I've seen them in 2 years, so I guess that indicates how much I love them or how much they are worth seeing. Knowing from previous experience how great it is to see them from the barrier, my friend and I queued from 9 am (the concert started 12 hours later...). Again, totally worth it. We even caught the soundcheck and Adam Anderson was there and was very gracious to the fans who stood in the rain to watch them. Before Hurts, Volbeat performed, and I swear the crowd pushed less during the metal gig than during Hurts. Go figure! It just shows how everyone wanted to be in the front. The atmosphere was incendiary; everyone sang and partied and waved their hands. For me, 'Sunday' is always the best party song. It's just so dynamic and you just feel the other bodies bouncing around you and then Theo Hutchcraft's funny dance on the stage - it is truly a song where you just enjoy music and life. One of the most magical moments was when Theo asked the crowd to take out their phones for 'Illuminated'. I've experienced this at every Hurts gig, and yet it always takes my breath away. I imagine it looks even more enchanting from the stage.

Another lovely scene was after the band finished playing a song and were taking a small break. The crowd started chanting 'Stay, Stay, Stay!'. Theo and Adam looked at each other incredulously and they smiled. Throughout the concert, both of them them expressed their gratitude for such a warm welcoming. To be honest, I've never seen Adam smiling and bowing so much or Theo looking so joyfully at us, his eyes sparkling with sheer amazement. Hurts might be a newish band, but they always give beautiful and intense performances. No wonder one falls in love with them after every concert.

The first time I listened to "Some Kind Of Heaven", I begun to count the days till the whole new album SURRENDER would be released. I've saddly missed all the concerts HURTS already had in Munich.

At the nineght of october I coulden't wait to come home from school and download the new album. I totaly went crazy for it and within a week all of the Song lyrics were within my heart. But the difficult part was yet to come. After months of asking and searching I had to realize that my mom is going to be the one I would have to go with to the concert(the tickets for HURTS were my birthday present).

The twentyfirst of faburary, the day of the concert. The whole day I prepared myself for HURTS. But thinking of it, there was nothing that could've prepared me for this experience.

Thousands of people shouting, an air full of exitement and my favorite band of all times in front of that crowd. And me somewhere between that folk with good taste for music.

Theo and Adam were AMAZING at the stage. Theos voice is even able to touch the heart of a deaf person. And Adam playes the piano perfectly. In one word LOVE.

But besides their obvious talent for music, they looked smoking hot up there on the stage(especially Theo).

That concert was a dream come true, but it was even better than anything I could've imagined.

A great experience for ears AND eyes.

I'm already looking forward to the next time HURTS would be in Munich.

Love you guys (and your music) so much. <3 <3 <3

Donning dapper eveningwear and swanning on stage like the scene of a murder in '40s Chicago, Hurts – Manchester's Theo Hutchcraft and Adam Anderson – promise a dramatic night of theatricality, pop and emotion. In live shows, Hutchcraft croons his lungs halfway up his throat, his operatic baritone coalescing beautifully with Anderson's '80s new romantic electronics.

Songs like “Wonderful Life” and “Stay” ignited uproarious cheers upon release, and the duo drew comparisons to the '80s balladeers Spandau Ballet, amongst other icons of the decade. More influenced, apparently, by the Italian genre Disco Lento, the pair are adroit purveyors of heartfelt, perhaps a tad melodramatic (though, surely, that's part of their appeal at this stage) synthpop gold. Imbued with ambition and stricken with abyssal despair, Hutchcraft and Anderson were relentless in their devastation in the early days, but their sophomore LP – Exile – saw they delve into stadium-sized explosions of glamour. Arguably not happier, per se, there was definitely more pace, and more proactive gumption driving the record.

Watching them perform, you'll struggle to hold back tears during their early material, and you'll struggle to keep your feet and hips from moving during their later stuff.

I saw Hurts Live on 13th February 2016 at the o2 Academy Brixton performing their 'Surrender Tour'. They sang songs from their new album 'Surrender' as well as their 2 previous albums. The performance was very good I was most impressed with Theo's stage presence, he is a true performer who showed feeling and an endless amount of energy. My favorite songs from the tour were: Rolling Stone, Stay, Wings and Illuminated. The performance was well structured and the songs linked well. The lighting was dramatic and the visual display of their song 'Lights' was impressive. I was a little bit disappointed with the song 'Rosie Affair' I felt the loud electric guitar displaced the emotion of the song, but the rest of their performance was breathtaking. I would definitely recommend Hurts.

every song a pleasure

so much trash music in the world - but

Thank god there are artists like Hurts!

HURTS was Friggin' Amazing!!!!!

well organized and good crowd. Sound was spot on. Merchandise conveniently placed.

One small thing is after it was over I had to go toilets but accidentally went through the emergency exit, which the security officers opened for us to go out, and they didn't allow me back in.

They must be used to university lads forcing their way in or something, but being on my bloody forties and not allowed back to the toilets one last time after paying for my ticket wasn't very nice.

The concert was amazing ! The stage placement, the lights, the acoustic was very good. I came specially to see them from Bulgaria. It was worth it.

They also knew how to hype the crowd and how to talk with it. Very polite artists and talented.all my gratitude to the organisers!!!

Bryan Adams So Happy It Hurts Tour 2024: Upcoming Shows and How To Buy Tickets

C anadian icon Bryan Adams announced more shows last month for his So Happy It Hurts Tour. The “Summer of ’69” balladeer will be bringing his brand of heartland rock to stadiums, arenas, and amphitheaters around the world, extending the tour that saw Adams playing electric shows to sold-out crowds across the U.S. in 2023.

As one of the best-selling music artists of all time, Bryan Adams is used to putting on invigorating performances for his fans and his latest tour is set to be no different. Eurythmics’ Dave Stewart will be joining Adams on tour, giving fans even more of a reason to come out.

If you want to see Bryan Adams live in North America, tickets will be available through StubHub, where orders are 100% guaranteed through StubHub’s FanProtect program. StubHub is a secondary market ticketing platform, and prices may be higher or lower than face value, depending on demand.

To see Bryan Adams perform on any of his international shows, like his May 13th show at the Royal Albert Hall in London or his 3Arena show in Dublin later that same month, you can head directly to Viagogo and get your official tickets there.

While we can’t be certain as to what Bryan Adams plans on playing for his latest tour, we can hope the Grammy award-winning artist will be playing some of his hits, including “Can’t Stop This Thing We Started”, “The Only Thing That Looks Good On Me Is You”, and of course, “Summer of ‘69.”

Bryan Adams is one of the most decorated music artists of all time. He has so many Juno awards you’d run out of fingers counting them and his catalog of smash hit songs reflects that. His opener Dave Stewart is a headliner in his own right, making for an even better concert experience.

Tickets are going to sell fast for all of Bryan Adams’ shows so we strongly recommend getting your hands on them now. If you want to get official tickets to see the “Heaven” star live when he performs in North America, head to StubHub or click here .

If you want to see Adams internationally, go ahead and buy your official tickets through Viagogo or by clicking here .

About Joan Jett & the Blackhearts

Joan Jett grew up during a time when rock ‘n’ roll was off limits to girls and women, but as a teenager, she promptly blew the door to the boys’ club right off its hinges. After forming her band the Blackhearts in 1979, with whom Jett has become a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, she has had eight platinum and gold albums and nine Top 40 singles, including the classics “Bad Reputation,” “I Love Rock ‘N’ Roll,” “I Hate Myself For Loving You,” and “Crimson and Clover.” With a career that has spanned music, film, television, Broadway, and humanitarianism, Joan Jett remains a potent force and inspiration to generations of fans worldwide.

As a producer, she has overseen seminal albums by Bikini Kill, and the Germs’ LA punk masterpiece ‘GI.’ Jett and co-founder Kenny Laguna (her longtime producer and music partner) founded Blackheart from the trunk of Kenny’s Cadillac after countless rejections from no less than 23 labels. 40 years later, Blackheart is a thriving entertainment company producing music, film and television, and continues to champion emerging bands. Joan Jett and the Blackhearts continue touring the globe with headlining shows alongside fellow rock legends like The Who, Green Day, Heart, and Foo Fighters. After two COVID-19 postponements, the group returned to the road during summer 2022 for The Stadium Tour with Def Leppard, Motley Crue and Poison. ‘Bad Reputation,’ a documentary about Jett’s life, premiered to critical acclaim at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival and is now available for streaming.

BRYAN ADAMS – SO HAPPY IT HURTS TOUR

Photo of Hugh Connell

The backdrop of the famous old Scottish Castle delighted fans as they marvelled at Feeder and Bryan Adams performances

Bryan adams – so happy it hurts tour – floors castle, kelso – 6th july 2022.

A welcome return to Scotland to Floors Castle in Kelso in the Scottish Borders for indie Welsh rock band Feeder who hit the stage during a bit of a storm as Geoff Holroyde on drums had to grab and adjust his high hats before they blew over.  Once sorted, Feeder fans and fans new to the band were treated to a nonstop 9-track set. Over the years, Feeder has enjoyed some success with over 20 high charting singles and 11 album releases.

hurts band tour 2022

The opening track, ‘Feeling A Moment’, was one of their top-selling singles and fans reacted with hands waving and quietly singing back the words. ‘Lost & Found’ followed and was backed with a full-screen video at the back of the stage. ‘The Healing’ from their new album Torpedo reminded us that Feeder still plays at the top of their game embracing playing live and engaging the crowd ‘let’s see your hands as the sun came out. This track provided Tika Hirose with a chance to leap around the stage dressed in a cowboy shirt and his noticeable haircut was not to be missed. Grant Nicholas then announced to the crowd ‘I hear the Scots can sing – let’s hear you on this one – ‘ Fear of Flying’. The back screen then displayed a fancy car and from the opening lyrics belted out by Grant ‘ Just got a brand new car, looks like a jaguar’ it was time for the band’s biggest selling single Buck Rogers . ‘ Tallulah’ from the album Tullulah was possibly the most aggressive track played followed by ‘ High’ possibly the oldest. Finally ‘ Just a Day’ brought their set to a close.

Current Feeder line-up: Grant Nicholas – lead vocals/lead guitar, Tika Hirose – bass/backing vocals, Tom Gleeson – rhythm guitar/backing vocals, Geoff Holroyde – drums/percussion, Dean Deavall – keyboards/backing vocals

BRYAN ADAMS

The crowd now awaiting the arrival of Bryan Adams on stage, a background video was playing showing an abandoned car, wheels were nicked and several interested characters passed by, including a traffic warden who placed a parking fine on the vehicle much to the disgust of the sleeping driver – It was Bryan who simultaneously appeared on stage.

hurts band tour 2022

‘ In the beginning, God created the heavens and earth – then man – but something was missing – no rock music – then an angel was created and said – Let there be guitar, drums, bass – Let there be rock’ , All part of the opening track ‘Kick Ass’ from Bryan’s latest album and tour title ‘So Happy it Hurts’. After playing ‘ Can’t Stop This Thing We Started’ and ‘Somebody’ Bryan took time out to address the crowd and admire the scenery including the magnificent Floors Castle.

“ Is it Haunted? Would a Ghost Appear ” and as if by Magic a light moved in the darkness from Room to Room as the band played ‘ Shine a Light’ . This was part of the quieter part of the stage set with Bryan on acoustic to sing a stunning version of ‘ Heaven ’ ably supported by Keith Scott on lead guitar. Back to rock and rockabilly with ‘ Go Down Rocking’ , ‘It’s Only Love’ (minus the appearance of Tina Turner lost in the traffic), ‘ You Belong to Me’ , ’I’ve been Looking for You’.

The last two tracks played with the cameras filming the lively crowd. Back to the ballads we were treated to ‘Have You Ever Loved a Woman’, ‘Here I Am ‘, ‘When You’re Gone’ and the classic ‘(Everything I Do) I Do It for You’. Rocking again brought up the stunning tracks played by a magnificent band ‘Back to You’, ‘Kids Wanna Rock’ and off-course the customary classics ‘Summer of 69’ and ’Cuts Like a Knife’. cheers echoing around, the encore did not disappoint ‘ So Happy It Hurts’ , Run to You’ , ‘ Can’t Take My Eyes Off You (Frankie Valli cover) and finally a reprise of ‘ Shine a Light’

For this reschedule ‘So Happy It Hurts’ Tour Bryan had assembled an array of accomplished experienced musicians, and a sound and lighting crew to give us an amazing experience. Bryan’s voice and playing were as clear as days of old and matched the sound of the original recordings. The crowd then left along a magical woodland walk, lit by fairy lights to their cars and buses. Well done Floors Castle for the organisation!

Remembering 2022 – Bryan Adams // So Happy It Hurts Tour // Live Review // SSE Arena // Belfast

hurts band tour 2022

Canadian rocker Bryan Adams returns to Belfast once again to sprinkle his very own brand of magic to his loyal and adoring Northern Irish fan base. One thing you can guarantee from a Bryan Adams show is a packed-out house, great music and one of the biggest party atmospheres you’ll see in a very long time. Two years off the road for the band and two years in the wilderness for the fans will ensure an appetite for live music unseen before, if the last two nights in Belfast at The SSE with Queen & Adam Lambert have shown us anything, Belfast is in fine form.

Bryan recently dropped his 15th studio album so we will be showered with tracks from his new album “So Happy It hurts” out now via BMG as well as a lifetime’s fan favourites that everyone is dying to hear once again in the flesh. I myself was introduced to Bryan with his ‘Reckless’ album way back in the summer of 88’ when I was in my teens, I lived In Belfast and over the summer I would visit my brothers who both lived in Dublin and my older bro was doing van deliveries and I would tag along as he did and ‘Reckless’ was one of the soundtracks of my summer.

It still amazes me how you can pinpoint a moment in time with a song or an album, but that album takes me right back to those summer days in Dublin and tonight I’ll be brought right back again when I hear them loud and proud! I can’t actually remember how many times now I have seen Bryan at this stage, he’s just astounding live, so the bar has previously been set high and anyone walking through these doors tonight will know what to expect, for those who are here for the very first time, you’re welcome.

Bryan has just completed a run of UK dates with Belfast tonight and Dublin tomorrow night to close off the current run of UK & Irish dates, so the craic will be 90 as we say, the beer will be flowing and we’ll all be in fine voice to support Bryan and The Dukes Of Leisure when required. Let’s do this! Now tonight I am here both as a long time admirer of the man himself and as a photographer & reviewer, so this is my first time tackling the entity that is Bryan Adams the performer, normally we get 3 songs in the pit to work our magic. Not tonight, Mr Adam’s allows one song, 3 minutes-ish? So I am assuming as he is a photographer himself he’s laying down the gauntlet, a challenge of sorts to see what we’re made of. Well, I got you Mr Adam’s I got you!

The crowds stream into the venue and at 8:15 the lights drop to a brief video introduction prepping the audience for Bryan’s imminent arrival, the crowd goes wild! The guys are all wearing matching black t-shirts and with a large video s seen behind them and led lights above give the whole setup a contemporary feel, check you Mr Adam’s embracing the technology! There’s a beauty to the simplicity of the setup, all the same, the focus here is on the music and it stands out. Four plus decades of making his mark on the industry and 75 + Million album sales means the evening is jam-packed with classics. Bryan’s new songs sit perfectly alongside his back catalogue and keep the party going as Belfast gobbled up track after track. The crowd interaction is at the max as Bryan keeps it personable and gets the crowd pumped inviting the revellers to dance along with his rockabilly track ‘You Below To Me’  which the lunatics of Belfast fully embrace, sure I did say the craic would be 90!

One of the highlights of Bryan’s show is when he tackles a number stripped back, either on his own or with the piano for accompaniment and tonight we got treated to ‘Here I Am’ and ‘When Your Gone’ this is when Belfast steps up and provides backing vocals life with their life depends on it! The loudest cheers of the night always go to the mega-hits, The Summer Of 69 and Everything I do etc but when your back catalogue is as rich in musical terms as Bryan’s you need a six-hour slot to fulfil the needs of your hungry fans. So Bryan turns it over to the audience to choose their fav tunes and we get a barrage of belters from the archives.

The Northern Irish accent poses its own challenges as Bryan tries his best to wrap his head around the names of the individuals tossing out song names but sure who doesn’t love a Belfast head melter. Welcome back to Belfast Bryan.

The guys leave the stage and once again Belfast gets some solo time with the man himself as he treats us to an Irish classic and one to win over the Belfast crowd with Whiskey In The Jar made famous by Thin Lizzy. If you thought Belfast could deliver a decent vocal this was on another level, and as Mr Adams is the ultimate charmer Belfast appreciated every second. The evening was wrapped with an acoustic version of “All For Love’ and as the Belfast crowd dispersed into the night the smiles were seen far and wide. Right across the auditorium arms were in the air, ladies and gents dancing, everything you want and expect for a great night out, Dublin tomorrow wraps up the current UK & Ireland run of dates before he arrives band at the end of June and July for a few bespoke appearances, so keep your fingers on the pulse kids.

Till the next time Bryan, till the next time.

Bryan Adams Announces New Album, ‘So Happy It Hurts’

by Jacob Uitti October 11, 2021, 12:56 pm

Grammy Award-winning Canadian musician, Bryan Adams, announced Monday (October 11) that he will be releasing his newest album, So Happy It Hurts , on March 11, 2022.

Videos by American Songwriter

“The pandemic and lockdown really brought home the truth that spontaneity can be taken away,” said Adams in a press release. “Suddenly all touring stopped, no one could jump in the car and go. The title song ‘So Happy It Hurts’ is about freedom, autonomy, spontaneity, and the thrill of the open road. The album of the same name touches on many of the ephemeral things in life that are really the secret to happiness, most importantly, human connection.”

Fans can pre-order the new 12-song record here .

Adams also released a new video for the title track of his soon-to-be 15th release. Watch the new high-energy offering below.

Also available for purchase and pre-order is an exclusive color vinyl and a limited edition box set that includes the deluxe CD, vinyl, hardbound book, and signed photo.

The 61-year-old Kingston, Ontario-born Adams has some tour dates slated for November, with a bunch more set for February and beyond 2022. See the full list of dates below.

Bruce Springsteen is relaunching his postponed tour in Phoenix. Here's what to expect

hurts band tour 2022

Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band return to active duty Tuesday, March 19, in downtown Phoenix with the relaunch of their world tour at Footprint Center.

Hailed in the Washington Post as "a masterclass in the uplifting power of rock-and-roll," the tour was cut short in September on the advice of Springsteen’s doctors, who were treating him for peptic ulcer disease, a potentially serious gastrointestinal condition.

Springsteen issued a statement saying, “Over here on E Street, we’re heartbroken to have to postpone these shows. ... We’ll be back to pick these shows up and then some. Thank you for your understanding and support. We’ve been having a blast at our US shows and we’re looking forward to more great times. We’ll be back soon.”

Here's our complete guide to the Bruce Springsteen concert in Phoenix .

Little Steven: 'We had no idea how much pain he was in'

In an early November interview with USA Today at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony, E Street Band guitarist Little Steven Van Zandt said, "I got to tell you the truth, we had no idea how much pain he was in. We were just as surprised as everyone else to learn the extent of his illness. It was remarkable when we found out that he had been in pain for five shows at least. He is just a tough guy.”

Springsteen announced that he was symptom-free on the Nov. 20 episode of his E Street Radio show “From My Home to Yours.”

Since then, he’s performed at the 2024 MusiCares Person of the Year ceremony, the 17th annual Stand Up for Heroes benefit and the New Jersey Hall of Fame induction honoring Patti Scialfa.

He also appeared at the 81st Golden Globe Awards (where he was nominated for Best Original Song for “Addicted to Romance”), alongside Darlene Love to present her with a platinum record for “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home),” and multiple events at the Bruce Springsteen Archives & Center for American Music on the campus of Monmouth University in New Jersey.

Springsteen & the E Street Band to play 52 concerts in 2024

Springsteen and the E Street Band will play 52 concerts in 17 countries through late November 2024, starting in Phoenix.

Rolling Stone hailed the opening night of the tour he’s about to resume as  "ecstatic and emotional." Spin called it a  "must-see."

The opening leg of the tour includes 10 U.S. concerts that had to be rescheduled while Springsteen recovered from peptic ulcer disease and a newly added concert at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

The remaining rescheduled U.S. dates will take place from Aug. 15 through Nov. 22 following a return to Europe for 26 shows this summer. He’ll also do a hometown performance in Asbury Park, New Jersey, where the E Street Band will headline the Sea.Hear.Now Festival on Sept. 15.

The European tour will follow up a successful trip to the continent last year, which sold more than 1.6 million tickets and earned praise as some of the best shows of the band’s career, Billboard deeming it “the greatest show on Earth.”

Despite the postponed North American dates, Springsteen and The E Street Band’s international run finished third on Pollstar’s countdown of the biggest tours of 2023, with only Taylor Swift and Beyoncé doing better at the box office.

'Best of Bruce Springsteen' album arriving in April

This spring also brings the recently released "Best of Bruce Springsteen" collection, a career-spanning anthology arriving April 19, gathering early-career favorites, live staples, best-selling breakouts and recent releases together for the first time.

Arriving via Sony Music, “Best of Bruce Springsteen” captures a 50-year body of work that has earned him honors and accolades including 20 Grammy Awards, an Academy Award, two Golden Globes, a Tony Award, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, a Kennedy Center Honor and induction to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

Since launching his career with “Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J.,” Springsteen has sold more than 140 million records worldwide, including more than 70 million in the United States, becoming the first artist in history with a Top 5 album in six consecutive decades.

His latest album, released in November 2022, is a collection of soul and R&B covers called "Only the Strong Survive."

This is Springsteen's first Phoenix concert since the River Tour

Tuesday’s show at Footprint Center is Springsteen’s first metro Phoenix concert since 2016, when the E Street Band hit Talking Stick Resort Arena (now called Footprint Center) on  the River Tour, revisiting the 1980 masterstroke  that gave the world “Hungry Heart” while topping Billboard’s album chart, a Springsteen first.

Moscow concert hall attack: Why is ISIL targeting Russia?

Deadly attack in Moscow claimed by ISIL affiliate leaves more than 133 people dead and approximately 100 injured.

More than 133 people have been killed and more than 100 others were injured following a brazen attack on concertgoers at Moscow’s Crocus City Hall before a performance by a Soviet-era rock band on Friday.

Assailants dressed in camouflage uniforms opened fire and reportedly threw explosive devices inside the concert venue, which was left in flames with its roof collapsing after the deadly attack.

At least 115 killed, more than 185 injured in attack on moscow concert hall, more than 130 killed in moscow concert hall attack, ‘heinous, cowardly’: world reacts to attack on moscow concert hall, moscow concert hall attack: what do we know so far.

Eleven people had been detained, including four people directly involved in the armed assault, Russia’s Interfax news agency reported on Saturday.

ISIL’s Afghan branch – also known as the Islamic State in Khorasan Province, ISKP (ISIS-K) – has claimed responsibility for the attack and United States officials have confirmed the authenticity of that claim, according to the Reuters news agency.

Here is what we know about the group and their possible motive for the Moscow attack.

ISIL’s Afghanistan branch

The group remains one of the most active affiliates of ISIL and takes its title from an ancient caliphate in the region that once encompassed areas of Afghanistan, Iran, Pakistan and Turkmenistan.

The group emerged from eastern Afghanistan in late 2014 and was made up of breakaway fighters of the Pakistan Taliban and local fighters who pledged allegiance to the late ISIL leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi .

The group has since established a fearsome reputation for acts of brutality.

Murat Aslan, a military analyst and former Turkish army colonel, said ISIL’s Afghanistan affiliate is known for its “radical and tough methodologies”.

“I think their ideology inspires them in terms of selecting targets. First of all, Russia is in Syria and fighting against Daesh [ISIL] like the United States. That means they see such countries as hostile,” Aslan told Al Jazeera.

“They are now in Moscow. Previously they were in Iran, and we will see much more attacks, maybe in other capitals,” he added.

Though its membership in Afghanistan is said to have declined since a peak in about 2018, its fighters still pose one of the greatest threats to the Taliban’s authority in Afghanistan.

Previous attacks by the group

ISKP fighters claimed responsibility for the 2021 attacks outside Kabul airport that left at least 175 civilians dead, killed 13 US soldiers, and many dozens injured.

The ISIL affiliate was previously blamed for carrying out a bloody attack on a maternity ward in Kabul in May 2020 that killed 24 people, including women and infants. In November that same year, the group carried out an attack on Kabul University, killing at least 22 teachers and students.

In September 2022, the group took responsibility for a deadly suicide bombing at the Russian embassy in Kabul.

Last year, Iran blamed the group for two separate attacks on a major shrine in southern Shiraz – the Shah Cheragh – which killed at least 14 people and injured more than 40.

The US claimed that it intercepted communications confirming that the group was preparing to carry out attacks before coordinated suicide bombings in Iran in January this year killed nearly 100 people in the southeastern Iranian city of Kerman. ISKP claimed responsibility for the Kerman attacks.

Why is ISIL attacking Russia?

Defence and security analysts say the group has targeted its propaganda at Russian President Vladimir Putin in recent years over the alleged oppression of Muslims by Russia.

“Russian foreign policy has been one big red flag for ISIS [ISIL],” Michael Kugelman, director of the South Asia Institute at the Washington-based Wilson Center told Al Jazeera. “The Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, Russian actions in Chechnya, Moscow’s close relationships with the Syrian and Iranian governments, and especially the military campaigns that Russia has waged against ISIS fighters in Syria and — through Wagner Group mercenaries – in parts of Africa.”

All of that has meant that Moscow has become a focus of ISKP’s “extensive propaganda war,” said Amira Jadoon, assistant professor at Clemson University in South Carolina and co-author of, The Islamic State in Afghanistan and Pakistan: Strategic Alliances and Rivalries.

“Russia’s engagement in the global fight against ISIS and its affiliates, especially through its military operations in Syria and its efforts to establish connections with the Afghan Taliban – ISIS-K’s rival – marks Russia as a key adversary for ISIS/ISIS-K,” Jadoon told Al Jazeera.

Should the Moscow attack be “definitely attributed” to ISKP, Jadoon said, the group hopes to win support and advance “its goal to evolve into a terrorist organisation with global influence” by demonstrating that it can launch attacks within Russian territory.

“ISK [ISKP] has consistently demonstrated its ambition to evolve into a formidable regional entity … By directing its aggression towards nations such as Iran and Russia, ISK not only confronts regional heavyweights but also underscores its political relevance and operational reach on the global stage,” Jadoon said.

Kabir Taneja, a fellow at the Strategic Studies Programme of the Observer Research Foundation – a think tank based in New Delhi, India – told Al Jazeera that Russia is seen by ISIL and its affiliates as “a crusading power against Muslims”.

“Russia has been a target for ISIS and not just ISKP from the beginning,” Taneja, author of the book, The ISIS Peril, said.

“ISKP attacked [the] Russian embassy in Kabul in 2022, and over the months, Russian security agencies have upped their efforts to clamp down on pro-ISIS ecosystems both in Russia and around its borders, specifically Central Asia and the Caucusus,” he said.

In early March, Russia’s Federal Security Service, better known as the FSB, said it had thwarted an ISIL plan to attack a Moscow synagogue.

“The most compelling current motivation for ISIS-K to attack Russia is the Taliban factor. The Taliban is a bitter rival of ISIS, and ISIS views Russia as a friend of the Taliban,” said Kugelman.

Moscow’s close relations with Israel are also anathema to ISIL’s ideology, Taneja said.

“So this friction is not new ideologically, but is so tactically,” he told Al Jazeera.

There’s another factor, too: Largely away from the world’s attention, the armed group has regrouped into a formidable force after setbacks in Syria and Iran.

“ISKP in Afghanistan has grown in strength significantly … and it’s not just ISKP, ISIS in its original regions of operations, Syria and Iraq, also sees [an] uptick in operational capabilities,” Taneja said. Today, he added, it is “ideologically powerful even if not politically, tactically or strategically … that powerful any more”.

That poses a challenge for a distracted world, he said.

“How to combat this is the big question at a time when big power competition and global geopolitical churn has put counterterrorism on the back burner,” Taneja added.

How has ISIL responded?

ISKP social media channels are “jubilant” following the attack on Moscow, said Abdul Basit, a senior associate fellow at the S Rajaratnam School of International Studies, Singapore.

“They are celebrating the attack,” Basit told Al Jazeera, adding that supporters are “translating and recirculating the responsibility claim” issued by the ISIL-linked Amaq News Agency.

Basit said that ISIL’s method of operations involves amplifying a propaganda campaign in advance of large-scale attacks and this had been observed in recent anti-Russian messaging. Such attacks “add to the credibility” of armed groups, Basit explained, which then “increases the scope of their funding, recruitment and propaganda”.

More attacks are possible in Russia and elsewhere, he added, given the key role that ISIL recruits of Central Asian origin – particularly Tajiks – played when the group held territory in Syria. They have now returned to the Central Asia region and their intent to carry out attacks has now materialised in capability, Basit said.

Previous attacks in Russia

Moscow and other Russian cities have been the targets of previous attacks.

In 2002, Chechen fighters took more than 900 people hostage in a Moscow theatre, the Dubrovka, demanding the withdrawal of Russian troops from Chechnya and an end to Russia’s war on the region.

Russian special forces attacked the theatre to end the standoff and 130 people were killed, most suffocated by a gas used by security forces to leave the Chechen fighters unconscious.

The deadliest attack in Russia was the 2004 Beslan school siege which was carried out by members of a Chechen armed group seeking Chechnya’s independence from Russia. The siege killed 334 people, including 186 children.

Frankie Beverly Kicks Off ‘Farewell Tour’ With Proclamation From The City Of Atlanta

Atlanta rolled out the carpet for an R&B GOAT.

Atlanta rolled out the carpet for an R&B GOAT. Frankie Beverly received Atlanta’s highest honor at the close of his farewell performance in the peach city. Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens and councilwoman Marci Collier Overstreet joined Beverly onstage to present a Proclamation, recognizing him for his decades-long Black excellence . The honor was met with a standing ovation and “Go Frankie, Go Frankie” chants from his jubilant supporters.

“Listen up everybody, I’m here with our great councilwoman Marci Collier Overstreet,” Mayor Dickens said.

“We got some awards and honors to give to the one and only Frankie Beverly.”

“This is absolutely wonderful and we are so pleased that you chose Atlanta, Georgia, the ATL to start your Farewell Tour,” Councilwoman Overstreet said.

“So much so the city of Atlanta is honoring you with our proclamation and … award from our mayor because we wish you happy feelings, deep in your soul, like you do for us.”

The city of Atlanta welcomed the legendary Frankie Beverly & Maze with open arms, showing up in droves for the Farewell Tour kickoff show presented by the Black Promoters Collective . Beverly and the band returned the favor to Atlanta by triggering years of memories, performing the soundtrack to many concertgoers’ lives. Beverly and Maze’s farewell performance at State Farm Arena was bittersweet as 77-year-old Beverly did his thing against backdrops of his younger self performing over the years.

The septuagenarian belted out classics to an audience sprinkled in the obligatory white attire, helped Beverly carry high notes from one hit to another: “We Are One,” “Back In Stride Again,” “Joy & Pain,” and “Before I Let You Go.”

Beverly shared his amazement for his fans’ commitment to the lyrics saying, “I can’t believe y’all know all the words,” before transitioning into Maze’s popular song “I Wanna Thank you.”

Beverly wasn’t the only GOAT in the building to hold the crowd’s attention. Thee Chaka Khan preceded Bev’s set and drove Atlanta down memory lane showcasing her own catalog spanning almost 50 years. It was good to see 1990s songbird Trina Broussard singing background vocals alongside two powerhouse singers. El Debarge prepared the crowd for this marquee event with his soulful serenades, proving that humans, too, can age like wine.

A press release from the Black Promoters Collective read: “Beverly is embarking in this farewell tour before slowing down to enjoy life in his California Bay Area home,”

After Beverly wraps the six-city tour, “He’ll then make his way to Philadelphia for a street renaming ceremony in the city where he and his group launched their phenomenal musical legacy.”

See here and below for remaining tour dates: April 6 — Mobile County Fairgrounds, Mobile, Alabama

April 13 — Toyota Arena, Houston, Texas April 27 — United Center, Chicago, Illinois May 12 — KIA Forum, Los Angeles, California July 6 – Dell Music Center, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

About Joan Jett & the Blackhearts

Joan Jett grew up during a time when rock ‘n’ roll was off limits to girls and women, but as a teenager, she promptly blew the door to the boys’ club right off its hinges. After forming her band the Blackhearts in 1979, with whom Jett has become a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, she has had eight platinum and gold albums and nine Top 40 singles, including the classics "Bad Reputation," "I Love Rock 'N' Roll," "I Hate Myself For Loving You," and "Crimson and Clover." With a career that has spanned music, film, television, Broadway, and humanitarianism, Joan Jett remains a potent force and inspiration to generations of fans worldwide.

As a producer, she has overseen seminal albums by Bikini Kill, and the Germs' LA punk masterpiece ‘GI.’ Jett and co-founder Kenny Laguna (her longtime producer and music partner) founded Blackheart from the trunk of Kenny’s Cadillac after countless rejections from no less than 23 labels. 'Bad Reputation,' a documentary about Jett's life, premiered to critical acclaim at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival and is now available for streaming.
