Cancellation charge per passenger on confirmed ticket

Rules & Procedure for Cancellation of E-Tickets

• e-Tickets can be cancelled on IRCTC website https://irctc.co.in till Chart preparation of the train.
• Cancellations are not allowed at face to face at Railway Counters. If the user wishes to cancel his e-Ticket, he can do so till the time of chart preparation for the train.
• For train starting up to 12 noon the chart preparation is usually done on the previous night.
• Passenger can log on to https://www.irctc.co.in and go to "Booked Tickets" link and select the ticket to be cancelled and can initiate the cancellation by selecting the passengers to be cancelled.
• Cancellation would be confirmed online and the refund would be credited back to the account used for booking as for normal Internet tickets.
• If there is any partial cancellation of ticket, please ensure that a fresh e-reservation slip (Electronic Reservation Slip) is printed separately as done for the original ticket.

Cancellation of e-Tickets before chart preparation of the train:

• If a confirmed ticket is cancelled more than 48 hrs before the scheduled departure of the train, flat cancellation charges shall be deducted
• Rs.240/- for AC First Class/Executive Class
• Rs.200/- for AC 2 Tier/First Class
• Rs.180 for AC 3 Tier/AC Chair car/ AC 3 Economy
• Rs.120/- for Sleeper Class and Rs.60/- for Second Class
• Cancellation charges are per passenger.
• If a confirmed ticket is cancelled within 48 hrs and up to 12 hours before the scheduled departure of the train, cancellation charges shall be 25% of the fare subject to the minimum flat rate mentioned in the above clause.
• Less than 12 hours and upto four hours before the scheduled departure of the train up to chart preparation which is earlier, 50% of the fare paid subject to the minimum cancellation charges.
• Note the Chart preparation time is the time for the chart preparation from the Train Originating Station or from the previous chart Preparation station.

Cancellation of e-Tickets after the preparation of Reservation charts: For Normal User

• E-ticket cannot be cancelled after chart preparation. Users are requested to use the online TDR filing for such cases and track Status of the refund case through tracking service provided by IRCTC. TDR can be filed as per Railway rules:
• No refund of fare shall be admissible on the tickets having confirmed reservation in case the ticket is not cancelled or TDR not filed online upto four hours before the scheduled departure of the train.
• No refund of fare shall be admissible on RAC e-tickets is case the ticket is not cancelled or TDR not filed online upto thirty minutes before the scheduled departure of the train.
• In case, on a party e-ticket or a family e-ticket issued for travel of more than one passenger, some passengers have confirmed reservation and others are on RAC or waiting list, full refund of fare , less clerkage, shall be admissible for confirmed passengers also subject to the condition that the ticket shall be cancelled online or online TDR shall be filed for all the passengers upto thirty minutes before the scheduled departure of the train.
• For filing online TDR, select "File Ticket Deposit Receipt (TDR)" from menu "Services".
• For the ticket booked at old site, select "Old Transaction History" from menu "My Transactions" and after getting the password verified select "File TDR" link in the left panel under the "My Transactions" menu.
• IRCTC will forward the claim to Concerned Railways to process the refund and money of refund amount will be credited back to same account through which payment was made after receiving the same from the concerned Railways.

Cancellation of e-Tickets after the preparation of Reservation charts: For Agents

E-ticket cannot be cancelled after chart preparation. Whenever Agents received such a request from their customers they are required to send a mail to [email protected] containing following details. PNR No. Transaction ID : Train No. From: To: Date of journey: S.No. PASSENGER NAME AGE SEX Reasons for Filing TDR IRCTC will file TDR and forward the claim to Concerned Railways to process the refund and money of refund amount will be credited back to Agents account through which payment was made after receiving the same from the concerned Railways.

For Tatkal Tickets Booked as e-Tickets:

• No refund will be granted on cancellation of confirmed Tatkal tickets.
• For contingent cancellation and waitlisted Tatkal ticket cancellations, charges will be deducted as per existing Railway rules. Partial cancellation of Tatkal e-tickets is allowed .

Cancellation of e-tickets in case of trains cancelled :

• If the train is marked as "CANCELLED" in PRS due to breaches, floods, accidents etc. full refund is permissible in case the ticket is cancelled within three days of the scheduled departure of the train. In case of e-tickets, such cancellations can be done by the customer through Internet.

IRCTC Indian Railways Train Ticket Cancellation Rules and Charges: The e-Tickets for the  Indian Railways can be cancelled through its official website until the chart has been prepared. Indian Railways, however, does not allow any offline/over the counter cancellation of tickets.

Here is how the e-Tickets can be cancelled at https://www . irctc .co.in —

* The user can log in to https://www.irctc.co.in and visit the ‘Booked Tickets’ section, select the ticket that he/she wishes to cancel.

* Cancellation of tickets is confirmed online and the refund of the amount is credited back to the bank account used at the time of ticket booking. This can take 3-5 days.

* If there is any partial cancellation of ticket, it should be ensured that a fresh e-reservation slip (Electronic Reservation Slip) is printed separately as done at the time of booking the original ticket.

* If a confirmed ticket is cancelled more than 48 hours before the scheduled departure of the train, the rate for flat cancellation charges shall be deducted as per following rates:

Rs 240 for AC First Class/Executive Class

 Rs 200 for AC 2 Tier/First Class

 Rs 180 for AC 3 Tier/AC Chair car/ AC 3 Economy

 Rs 120 for Sleeper Class

 Rs 60 for Second Class

* Cancellation charges are per passenger. If a confirmed ticket is cancelled within 48 hours and up to 12 hours before the scheduled departure of the train, cancellation charges shall be levied as 25 per cent of the fare.

* Less than 12 hours and up to four hours before the scheduled departure of the train up to chart preparation which is earlier, 50% of the fare paid subject to the minimum cancellation charges.

It should be noted that no refund of fare shall be made on RAC e-tickets in case the ticket is not cancelled or TDR (Ticket Deposit Receipt) not filed online up to thirty minutes prior to the scheduled departure of the train.

For Tatkal tickets booked as e-Tickets:

No refund will be provided on cancellation of confirmed Tatkal tickets. For contingent cancellation and waitlisted Tatkal ticket cancellations, charges will be deducted as per existing Railway rules.

Cancellation of e-tickets in case of trains cancelled: The IRCTC website states that if the train is marked as “CANCELLED” in PRS because of breaches, floods, accidents etc. full refund is permissible in case the ticket is cancelled within three days of the scheduled departure of the train.

• Enter PNR Number, Train number along with Captcha.
• Select check box to confirm that rules and procedure are read.
• After click on submit an OTP will be sent on mobile number given at the time of booking, enter the received OTP and click submit.
• After the OTP is validated PNR details will be displayed on the screen.
• After verifying the details Click on ‘Cancel Ticket’ for full cancellation. Refund amount due will be displayed on the screen.
• An SMS will be sent with PNR and refund details. Sample format: “Your PNR xxxxxxxxxx has been cancelled. Collect refund amt xxxxx from journey commencing station or nearby satellite PRS locations. Ref. Terms & conditions”
• Refund of fare as permissible can be collected on submission of original PRS counter ticket from any PRS counter of Indian Railways upto 4 hours before the scheduled departure time of the train in case of confirmed tickets and upto thirty minutes before the scheduled departure time of train in case of RAC/waitlisted tickets.
• During first two hours of the opening of PRS counters on the next day for the tickets for the trains whose scheduled departure as under:- time is (i) between 1801 hours and 0600 hours.
• Upto 4 hours after the scheduled departure of the train during the working hours of PRS counters/current counters/special counters where cancellation is permitted round the clock on the tickets for the trains whose scheduled departure time is (i) between 0601 hours and 1800 hours.
• This may be applicable only in case valid mobile number has been given at the time of booking.
• Cancellation of tickets and refund of fare may be permitted for PRS counter tickets in normal circumstances only and not in case of late running of trains/cancellation of train etc.
• Online cancellation shall be permitted only upto 4 hours before the scheduled departure of the train if ticket is fully confirmed.
• Online cancellation shall be permitted only upto 30 minutes before the scheduled departure of the train if ticket is RAC/Waitlist.
• Passenger details (Viz.name, age, gender, booking status, current status) and journey details will be displayed on the website.
• Once the passenger confirms full cancellation of PNR will be done and PNR will be marked as Cancelled but not refunded in the system. Seat/berth will be released. Refund amount due will also be displayed to the passenger on website
• All the privilege/duty pass/PTOs/complimentary pass tickets may be allowed to be cancelled through website. In the case of pass zero refund is permissible however, for validity of the pass for fresh booking the passenger shall approach the counter to get the pass re-validated by marking the same cancelled against the earlier booked tickets as per prescribed rule.

PTO’s tickets are issued on 1/3rd of the total basic fares and normal cancellation charge is applicable in these tickets also. Therefore in many cases ticket value on PTOs is less than the cancellation charges therefore passengers may or may not cancel the tickets therefore cancellation across IRCTC website may be allowed in the case of PTOs also.

• Select the Transaction Type option as ‘Boarding Point Change’.
• Enter PNR Number and Train number along with Captcha.
• After the OTP is validated, PNR details will be displayed on the screen.
• After verifying the details on the screen, select the New Boarding Station from Boarding Point list and then click Submit.
• PNR Details with New Boarding Point will be displayed on the screen.
• Boarding point change of counter ticket would be allowed till charting.
• Boarding point change of I-ticket is allowed only after it is printed.
• In case the boarding station is changed within 24 hours of departure of train, no refund shall be permissible in normal circumstance; however, in exceptional circumstances like cancellation of train, non-attachment of coach, late running of train by more than three hours, normal refund rules shall be applicable.
• If boarding station has been changed at the time of booking, then passengers can change boarding station one more time.
• In case a passenger has changed the boarding station, he/she will lose all the rights to board the train from the original boarding station. If found travelling without any proper authority to travel, passenger will have to pay fare with penalty between original boarding station to changed boarding station.
• If NOSB booking has been done, then boarding point change of counter ticket would not be allowed through this functionality. User should visit nearest railway counter.

Cancellation and Refund Rules for IRCTC Train

E-tickets for IRCTC trains can be canceled online, and the system will issue a refund according to the IRCTC Refund Rules, which are as follows:

1. Cancellation Charges for Confirmed Tickets

The amount deducted is based on the time of cancellation and the status of your ticket at the time of cancellation. Detailed explanations are given below:

a) If a confirmed ticket is canceled online more than forty-eight (48) hours before the train’s scheduled departure, a minimum per person cancellation charge of the following flat rate will be deducted:

b) If a confirmed ticket is cancelled online between 48 hours and twelve (12) hours before the train’s scheduled departure, the following cancellation fees will be deducted:

25% (twenty-five percent) of the fare, subject to the minimum cancellation charge set out in paragraph 1(a), plus GST for all AC classes.

• c) Cancellation costs will be deducted as follows if a confirmed ticket is canceled online between twelve (12) hours and up to four hours before the train’s planned departure:

For all AC Classes, 50% of the ticket (subject to the minimum cancellation charge stipulated to in paragraph 1(a)) + GST is applicable.

d) If a ticket with a confirmed reservation is not canceled online or a TDR is not filed online up to four hours before the train’s planned departure, no fare refund will be given.

2. Cancellation Charges for Waitlisted Tickets

a) If a wait-listed ticket is cancelled online up to four hours before the Train’s Scheduled Departure, the fare will be refunded after deducting a cancellation fee of ₹20 + GST per person.

b) If all passengers on a ticket are still on the waiting list after the first charting, the user does not need to cancel them. Such tickets will be automatically cancelled by the system, and a full refund will be issued, less any cancellation fees.

3. Cancellation Charges for Partially Confirmed Tickets

a) If some passengers have confirmed reservations on a party e-ticket or a family e-ticket issued for travel of more than one passenger and others are on the waiting list, a full refund of fare, less a cancellation charge of $20 + GST per passenger, shall be admissible for confirmed passengers, subject to the condition that the ticket be cancelled online or an online TDR be filed for all passengers up to four hours before the Scheduled Departure of the Train.

b) In the event that some passengers on a party e-ticket or a family e-ticket issued for travel of more than one passenger have confirmed reservations while others are on the waiting list, a full refund of fare without deduction of cancellation is admissible for confirmed passengers, subject to the condition that the ticket is canceled online or an online TDR is filed for all passengers after first charting and up to thirty minutes before the scheduled departure.

c) In case of party e-ticket or family e-ticket issued for travel of more than one passenger, some passengers have confirmed reservation and others are on the list of the waiting list, then in case of passengers on waiting list not traveling, a certificate shall be obtained by traveling passengers from the ticket checking staff to that effect and refund of fare shall be processed online through TDR, indicating the details of the certificate issued by ticket checking staff and the online TDR shall be filed up to seventy-two (72) hours of actual arrival of the train at passengers’ destination and the original certificate issued by ticket checking staff shall be sent through post to Group General Manager/IT, Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Ltd., Internet Ticketing Centre, IRCA Building, State Entry Road, New Delhi – 110055

4. Cancellation Charges for Wait List Tickets Dropped from Charting

The names of all such passengers booked on that Passenger Name Record (PNR) will be dropped from the reservation chart and a refund of the full fare will be credited back to the account from which the booking transaction took place, without deducting any cancellation charges, in the case of wait-listed e-tickets on which all passengers are on the waiting list even after preparation of the reservation chart.

5. Cancellation Charges for Full Cancellation of Train (from originating station to destination station)

In the event that all trains from the source to the destination are cancelled, a full refund of the fee on confirmed e-tickets will be automatically given back to the account from which the booking transaction was made, with no need to cancel or file a TDR online.

6. Cancellation Charges for Partial Cancellation of Train

TDRs must be filed online up to 72 hours before the scheduled departure of the train at the passenger’s boarding station in the event of a partial train cancellation, train redirected, or train short termination, among other things.

7. Cancellation Charges for Train Running More than 3 Hours Late and Passenger not travelled

If the journey is not completed owing to the train being late by more than three hours after the planned departure of the train from the station beginning travel, no cancellation fee will be charged and the entire money will be reimbursed to all passengers holding fully or partially confirmed tickets.

i . Train is running late by more than three hours at the passenger boarding station. ii. TDR is filed online before the actual departure of the train, for availing full refund. iii. All passengers booked on a PNR have not travelled.

In case the ticket is cancelled, or if the request for refund of fare is filed online after the actual departure of train, No refund of fare will be admissible.

How to cancel Indian Railways train ticket online; know the process

Cancel IRCTC counter ticket online

• Step 1 : Visit the IRCTC website and navigate to the ‘Trains’ section. Then, select "Cancel Ticket" and choose the Counter Ticket option.
• Step 2 : Enter necessary details like the PNR number, train number, and the provided Captcha. Confirm your understanding of the cancellation process by ticking the relevant box and then click submit.
• Step 3 : After submission, an OTP (One-Time Password) will be sent to the mobile number provided during the booking.
• Step 4 : Confirm the cancellation request by entering the OTP you have received on the registered mobile number.
• Step 5 : Once validated, the screen will display PNR details. Carefully review the information and proceed by clicking 'Cancel Ticket' for a complete cancellation. The total refund amount will be clearly indicated.
• Step 6 : After cancellation, you will receive an SMS that will have the PNR number and refund details on your registered mobile number.

IRCTC rules for counter ticket cancellation

• Make sure to provide a valid mobile number during booking to qualify for cancellation.
• Cancellation and fare refund are permitted for PRS counter tickets under regular circumstances, except for train delays or cancellations.
• Online cancellation is acceptable up to 4 hours before the scheduled departure for fully confirmed tickets.
• Online cancellation is permitted up to 30 minutes before the scheduled departure for RAC/Waitlist tickets.
