SUPPORT PROJECT OCEANOLOGY

Project Oceanology provides more than 20,000 students and adults annually with opportunities to learn about the ocean through firsthand exploration and experiences. Nurturing interest and inspiring enthusiasm for science and for our planet’s marine environment from our year-round waterfront facility in Groton, Connecticut, our vision is to be the center of excellence for inquiry, and place-based science and marine education serving the evolving needs of our global community.

Your support makes everything we do possible, beginning with providing financial assistance for our summer programs available to under resourced youth. Last year, donors helped provide summer experiences to over 80 young people. Project Oceanology was able to provide continuity for school programs and other educational partners as well as educational materials to teachers.

Here is something for families that ranks at the top of hands-on educational experiences. Board Project Oceanology's research vessel, cruise out into Long Island Sound and set out a trawl net and plankton net. Hoist up the nets and identify the variety of creatures you have caught, under the guidance of a marine scientist. They may range from lobsters and squid to the tiniest form of life in the ocean's chain - plankton. The Enviro-Lab , Project Oceanology's 56-foot floating classroom lets you be a marine scientist. The Enviro-Lab departs from Avery Point.

Seal Watches -  Come aboard Project Oceanology's floating classroom and learn about the playful creatures that are abundant in Fisher's Island Sound. Our cruises average more than 100 sightings! Information including scheduled departures and dates is at www.oceanology.org/public-cruises

Oceanographic cruises   - For more information including scheduled departures and dates go to www.oceanology.org/public-cruises

Summer Camps - Registration opens annually in February. For additional information go to www.oceanology.org/summercamp-2021

School Programs & Scouts- Bring your class or group on an Oceanographic Cruise on our Enviro-Lab, study Southeastern Connecticut's shoreline environment, conduct experiments and analyze field samples in our laboratories. Groups can spend a weekend night or two in Project Oceanology's waterfront hostel. Requirements towards Oceanography (Boy Scouts), Animal Habitats (Girl Scouts) and other nature and environmental badges can be incorporated into the activities. Badge counselor available.

Our Hostel - Bring your group to stay in our 56-bunk hostel! Two floors offer plenty of space with four bunks per room. For more information email [email protected]
