Motorcycle Tours Ireland

Discover with us, the Emerald Isle on this 8-day Guided motorcycle tour of Ireland that will take you around the whole island on a Harley-Davidson. Your motorcycle tour begins in the Northern Ireland capital of Belfast and leads you past beautiful country roads with ancient castles and abbeys over to the west to Donegal. Visit Dunluce Castle, Kylemore Abbey and the famous Cliffs of Moher, then the world famous Ring of Kerry awaits you, a roundtrip through the picturesque peninsula of Kerry with its rugged mountains and impressive cliffs. Through the seaport of Cork and the Hill of Tara, you will finally reach Belfast, where your Guided motorcycle tour through Ireland ends with a freshly drafted Guinness and a glass of Irish whiskey.

The Route for the Motorcycle Tours Ireland

Day 1: Belfast

Belfast

Welcome to Belfast, the capital of Northern Ireland. After arrival we pick you up from the airport for a transfer to your hotel. In the evening we invite you for a Welcome Drink and Dinner and give you more information about our common Ireland adventure.

Day 2: Belfast > Donegal

Dunluce Castle, Ireland

Collecting the Harley-Davidson motorycles from the rental office, starting the motorcycle tour and heading to Carrickfergus Castle, Kinbane Head and the worldfamous Dunluce Castle. If possible, we also visit an original Game Of Thrones filming location. We will spend the night in Donegal where you can enjoy an Irish pub in the evening.

Day 3: Donegal > Clifden

Kylemore Abbey, Ireland

We will cruise pass the impressive table mountain Ben Bulbin and visit Kylemore Abbey and its elaborately designed gardens. Our overnight stay is in the Connemara National Park in Clifden.

Day 4: Clifden > Tralee

Cliffs of Moher, Ireland

The stone grave The Dolmen is a must to visit and of course we'll have a closer look at the world famous Cliffs of Moher with the O'Brien Tower.

Day 5: Tralee > Killarney

Dingle, Ireland

After a photo stop at the Blennerville Windmill, the largest windmill in Ireland, we will pass over the Connor Pass, visit the Gallarus Oratory and pass Slea Head directly on the coast. We will spend our lunch time in the typical Irish town Dingle. In the afternoon relaxing on Inch Beach is part of the plan.

Day 6: Killarney > Cork

Healy Pass, Ireland

Today on the agenda is a dream ride along the world famous Ring of Kerry, the Ring of Beara and the overwhelming Healy Pass as well as visiting Blarney Castle near Cork. According to a legend, kissing the Blarney Stone endows the kisser with the gift of persuasive speech - what a day!

Day 7: Cork > Dublin

Hook Lighthouse, Ireland

Starting from Cork, we will reach early in the morning the Heritage Center in Queenstown, which gives us an insight on the migration of several million Irish to the New World. Queenstown was also the last port of call of the Titanic on its sad maiden voyage. A visit to the more than 800 year old Hook Lighthouse, the oldest still operating lighthouse in the world, will round off this eventful day.

Day 8: Dublin > Belfast

Hill of Tara, Ireland

Our last day on the road with a cultural highlight at its best - the famous Hill of Tara, where once hundreds of kings reigned. After dropping off the Harley-Davidson motorcycles and meeting for our traditional Farewell Dinner we finish this wonderful tour of Ireland.

Ride to the Peak District national park to meet up with your guide and tour mates and break the ice over dinner in a beautiful country house hotel. You'll be all set to head to Holyhead port the following day for your crossing to Ireland. After docking, stay overnight in Dublin before riding the east coast to Belfast, arriving in time for an afternoon in the city. The following day is dedicated to exploring Belfast, with a visit to the Titanic quarter at the docks to explore both the history of the most famous passenger ship in the world, and visit the beautifully restored SS Nomadic Titanic’s sister ship and the last surviving White Star liner. There are also added options to tour the infamous Crumlin Road jail, walk in the lush botanical gardens or visit Queen's University.

From here we say goodbye to Belfast and journey to Londonderry, with lots to see off the bike- including visits to two iconic Irish sites, the Giant's Causeway and the birthplace of modern Irish Whisky in the village of Bushmills, where you can take a distillery tour. A nice relaxing ride the next day to Ballina as you cruise down the west coast of Ireland and cross into the Irish Republic, where our lunch stop incorporates a water-bus tour of Donegal bay that is not to be missed!

Ben, Magellan Guide

I love riding the rural roads in Ireland. Traffic free, glorious views, and just over the water. One of my favourite tours for sure.

Beautiful roads & scenery

Heading south to Galway bay, we find ourselves on some of the very best biking roads in Ireland as voted by Irish bikers themselves. Following the waypoints to stay on track, our route skirts both Ballycroy and Connemara national parks - which will guarantee an appreciation for the Irish love of road racing!

Leaving Galway we ride around (not through!) the prehistoric bogs of Ireland, including the areas around the famous Maghera and Woodcock hill bogs. After lunch we find ourselves on one of the most scenic roads in Ireland, the internationally famous World Heritage route called The Ring of Kerry. Another firm favourite riding route with Irish bikers. This coastal route is widely acclaimed as one of the top 5 most beautiful road journeys in the British Isles.

irish motorcycle tours

Heading to Waterford, with its amazing Viking history, we ride around Kenmare Bay and again pass several prehistoric peat bogs before following the river Lee to Macroom. We then have a short ride to Blarney castle to kiss the world-famous Blarney stone, which Irish legend has it will give you the ‘gift of the gab’.

We have a short final day in Ireland as the ferry check-in closes at 2pm with some nice scenic roads in the Wicklow Mountains National Park, and a chance to buy last minute souvenirs too. From here we cross to the island of Holyhead, next to Anglesey and the British mainland once more. Your final night of the tour will be back in the beautiful Peak District national park, ready to head for home the following day, or to explore the Peaks before joining our Scotland tour heading north!

Periodic settlements of tightly clustered buildings, some with little castles hinting the Vikings could be just over the horizon….Magellan Motorcycle Tours did a great job.'

irish motorcycle tours

Visit Blarney Castle and kiss the legendary Blarney Stone to get the famous “gift of the gab”.

Motorcycle Tours in Ireland

When it comes to riding Northwestern Europe, Ireland has few rivals. Quiet country lanes meandering through emerald green hills, dramatic coastline with thousands of miles of winding roads revealing stunning cliffs and bays, picturesque villages, rolling hills, and Irish hospitality make motorcycle tours in Ireland one of the best motorcycling experiences in Europe. Both guided and self-guided tours in Ireland are filled with jaw-dropping scenery, hearty cuisine, and twisty roads perfect for two-wheeled travel. Although Irish weather is notoriously unpredictable, motorcycle tours in Ireland focus both on the country’s beautiful coastline and inland mountains. The Atlantic Way, Connemara, and Killarney are all must-see when riding motorcycles in Ireland, and if you’re into city breaks and Guinness tasting tours, add Dublin and Galway to your itinerary to experience the Irish nightlife. Ireland also boasts a robust and vibrant motorcycle culture, and according to local riders, this is the perfect country to ride: fantastic landscapes, empty roads, few speed cameras, and more pubs per square mile than anywhere else in Europe – what more could a rider wish for? Motorcycle tours in Ireland are ideal if you love leaning into corners, traveling through tranquil, green scenery, exploring medieval castles and charming little seaside villages and towns, and getting to know the locals. The Irish people are world-famous for their friendliness and hospitality, so when you’re traveling the Emerald Isle, expect to make friends everywhere you go.

Motorcycle Tours in Ireland: Highlights

Motorcycling in Ireland is an awesome way to spend your holidays, whether going on a self-guided tour or joining a group ride. If it’s your first time in Ireland, however, here’s a list of our favorite destinations along the way: Dublin The capital city of Ireland situated on a bay on the East Coast is one of the friendliest and most laid-back cities in Europe. Once a Viking settlement, Dublin has a magnificent Old Town and is bordered by mountains providing a spectacular backdrop to the city’s skyline. Dublin has a vibrant and colorful urban life and boasts countless taverns and pubs ideal for exploring; if you were ever going on a pub crawl after finishing a motorcycle tour, this is the place to let your hair down. Galway Situated in Western Ireland in the middle of the Atlantic Way, Galway is another must-see city. Most motorcycle tours in Ireland add Galway to their itineraries because of the city’s dynamic lifestyle, festival culture, and sites like the Spanish Arch and the Menlo Castle. Galway is perfect for a day or two of exploring, recharging, and immersing yourself in the Irish ways of life. If you’re a foodie, Galway is an excellent place for culinary adventures: try out the local Irish stew, cockles and mussels, black and white pudding, Galway oysters, or the famous “boxty” – grated and mashed potato cakes served hot. Connemara More a cultural region than a geographical area, Connemara is situated in West Galway and is beloved among local motorcyclists because of its undulating green hills, the Twelve Bens mountains, and quiet country roads winding past small, sleepy villages and towns. Connemara is fiercely Gaelic and unmistakably Irish: out here, don’t be surprised to strike up a conversation with a local farmer, admire the endless greenery, the bends of the Invermore River, and the multiple peninsulas and inlets forming the coast of Connemara. Atlantic Way Stretching for 2,500 kilometres from Derry all the way to Cork, the Atlantic Way is one of the longest and, in our humble opinion, most spectacular coastal roads in Europe, if not the whole world. Often called the Wild Atlantic Way because of its dramatic, jagged cliffs, isolated bays, and wild beaches, this road is Ireland’s pride and joy – and a true motorcycling gem for adventure riders. Towering cliffs, picturesque towns and fishing villages, dreamy islands, and charming traditional thatched cottages line the road, and the Atlantic Way is rightfully one of the best highlights of motorcycle tours in Ireland. If you’re riding here solo, aim to travel the Way on weekdays or hit the road earlier in the day to avoid the tourist crowds and RVs, especially in the summer months. Killarney Leaving the coast behind and heading inland, Killarney is probably the most Irish place in Ireland. The town of Killarney in southwestern Ireland is surrounded by green hills, and the nearby Killarney National park is a fantastic place to ride motorcycles and enjoy the countryside. The Park extends to over a hundred square kilometers of pristine yew and oak forest inhabited by red deer, brooding mountain peaks, and the beautiful Lakes of Killarney. If you have the time, make sure to go on a hike in Killarney to truly appreciate the tranquil, verdant green country.

Practical Information for Touring Ireland

Much like its neighbor Great Britain, Ireland is notorious for its spectacularly unpredictable weather. Most motorcycle tours in Ireland are scheduled for late spring, summer, and early fall months when the temperatures are mild and pleasant, especially on the coast. However, expect rain and pack some waterproof gear: it’s impossible to tell whether it will actually rain or not, but in Ireland, it’s always best to be prepared. Ireland uses the euro as its official currency, and you can easily pay by card just about everywhere you go, although it’s always good to have some cash in hand. Ireland isn’t a very expensive place to travel but expect to be spending around $100-$120 a day for your food, fuel, and accommodation, unless that is included in your tour package. Generally, Ireland is a very safe country to travel, and apart from an occasional pickpocket, safety is not a concern. In Dublin, make sure you park your motorcycle safely – just as in any big city, motorcycle theft does occur. However, out in the countryside, expect nothing but warm hospitality. Motorcycle tours in Ireland can be enjoyed on any type of bike. Cruisers, tourers, street and adventure bikes are all capable of tackling Irish roads, so pick the bike you enjoy the most and hit those twisties!

Day 2 – Dublin to Wexford (247km)

Let’s go! Your first day’s ride takes in some of the favoured riding routes from Dublin motorcycling enthusiasts. We ride south east into Co. Wicklow, which is known as The Garden of Ireland, due to its wonderful scenery.  It equally excels as a riding destination which these passes and destinations to enjoy:-

  • Wicklow Gap

We’ll then continue riding south to finish up for the evening in the sunny south east of Ireland, Wexford.

Day 3 – Wexford to Kinsale (260km)

On today’s ride, we’ll leave Wexford and take a scenic coastal route into Co. Waterford and onto Kinsale in Co. Cork.

You will ride first to the short ferry at Passage East before a short detour down to Dunmore East, a sleepy seaside town, noted for its sea fishing fleet and also as a sailing destination. Passing Tramore, which is a large beach favored by holiday makers, before arriving in Dungarvan. Historians may enjoy a tour of Dungarvan Castle. Next on the route is a seaside town of Ardmore, which could make an ideal coffee or lunch stop, depending on your timing. Ballycotton is the next seaside village on our route.

The last leg of your tour will take you on the outskirts of Cork City down to the Gourmet Capital of Ireland, Kinsale.

Day 4 – Kinsale to Kenmare (275km)

Today’s ride is enchanting and spectacular which we hope will leave you with indelible memories of your trip to Ireland.

Leaving Kinsale, we’ll skirt some beautiful coastal towns and villages, join the Wild Atlantic Way. You will pass through beautiful villages such as Glandore, Baltimore, Skibbereen, Crookhaven before riding the Healey Pass on Beara Peninsula – the first of the 3 Peninsulas.

Tonight you’ll stay in the pretty town of Kenmare.

Day 5 – Kenmare to Killarney (214km)

The Ring of Kerry

Today you’ll discover your second of three peninsulas, the Ring of Kerry!

The Ring of Kerry is a “must do” on every visitors list while in the South West of Ireland. We ride the Ring in a clockwise direction so that you ride with the sea on your left and in the opposite direction of the coaches – it’s the perfect way to see the Ring of Kerry!

Riding with Kenmare Bay on your left, you’ll pass through Parknasilla and then we divert up to see Staigue Fort. Back onto the ring for Coomakista Pass which offers fantastic views over Kenmare Bay

The Skellig Ring scenic drive starts in Waterville  and takes in the wonderful Valentia Island accessed by bridge from the picturesque Portmagee and Ballinskelligs.

  • Valentia Island – The Valentia Island Tetrapod Footprints are the most extensive of the four Devonian trackways in the world. Riding down the island you’ll reach Knightstown where you can take a short ferry ride to Reenard Point back onto the mainland – with options for excellent lunch breaks in either town.
  • Cahirsiveen, Mountain Stage, Kells Bay, Glenbeigh – these are famous parts of The Ring of Kerry. You can switch off your intercoms and enjoy the spectacular views in silence!
  • You will ride through Beallach Beema Pass before heading onto the famous Molls Gap – also renowned by car rally drivers as a spectacular section and equally exciting on a motorcycle!

It’s a quick ride to the 4 star hotel & spa, The Brehon. Enjoy their spa or try the Lemonrock cocktail at the bar!

Day 6 – Ride out from Killarney (200km)

Your final peninsula in the south west is The Dingle Peninsula.

This tour takes you west along the Dingle peninsula, heading towards the Atlantic Ocean. First, you skirt the lakes of Killarney to the north, before heading out into open countryside.

Inch Beach – stop here to fill your lungs with the fresh air blowing in off the Atlantic. This beach is almost always windy, and is subject to Atlantic swell, which makes for great surf, so maybe you’ll be able to watch some surfers or kitesurfers pit themselves against the elements. There is a bar/café on the beach, if you want to stay a while. The Dingle peninsula has dozens of beaches, but this is arguably the biggest and most dramatic.

Pass through Dingle town. You might like to stop here now, or later in the afternoon you will be coming back this way. It’s a pretty, colourful town with a range of souvenir and craft shops. If you want to experience local wildlife, there are regular boat trips (duration one hour) out into the harbour where you are guaranteed to meet Fungi, a tame dolphin who enjoys putting on aerobatic displays for the boats and has been on show for over 25 years.

From here we take the Slea Head Drive, which brings you out in a loop around the tip of the Dingle Peninsula to look west out over the Atlantic and to visit some of Ireland’s most famous ancient monuments. Remember this view is what inspired St. Brendan the Navigator to set sail in the 5 th  century, when he went all the way to the New World. This is a world class driving route, as you hug the cliffs all the way around, with dramatic Atlantic views to your left and Kerry’s beautiful glaciated mountains to your right.

Keep an eye out for Clochans, or Bee Hive Huts: These are a very unusual dwelling, made entirely of dry stone with no mortar of any kind. This building technique was used here for milennia, with the oldest examples dating back to 3000BC. These huts can be seen from the road in Fahan, on the Slea Head Drive. They were part of a collection of about 400 that once covered the hillside. It is thought that they date from the 12 th  Century and were private dwellings, linked together with passageways. They are very similar to the Beehive Huts on the Skellig Islands, off the Ring of Kerry, which were part of an ancient monastic settlement.

After Ballyferriter village, if you are interested in unusual architecture or ancient Irish history, stop off at Gallarus Oratory, an ancient chapel built using dry stone walling (no mortar of any kind). It looks like an upturned boat, and nobody knows exactly how old it is. A unique spot.

Dingle Town – maybe a good time for a coffee before you climb the Conor Pass, or a taste of Murphy’s Ice Cream, an artisan ice cream maker located near the sea front who pride themselves on local, seasonal and unusual flavours. Dingle is also home to the Crean’s Brewery Visitor Centre, and the Dingle Distillery where whiskey and gin are made. Both offer tours, and a taster to take away with you for the end of the day.

The Conor Pass – it’s time to climb Ireland’s highest mountain pass. This narrow, twisty road links Dingle town to the sandy shores of the north side of the peninsula, and it will take your breath away.

Caherconree Pass – this is your first taste of Ireland’s back roads, where you leave the traffic behind and return through the mountains heading south towardst the green vale of  You climb very close to the Caherconree Fort, an ancient stone fort, well worth a look if you are interested in ancient monuments. It is mentioned in some of Ireland’s oldest literature, as the site of a great battle, said to have been fought here in the 7 th  century.

Back to Killarney!

WILDIRISH Motorcycle Tours

Having been into motorbikes all my life I decided to set up WILDIRISH Motorcycle Tours to provide motorcycles tours of Ireland.

A younger ‘WILDIRISH’ – Honda CB550K3

A motorcycle enthusiast and entrepreneur with a background in engineering, RoSPA trained, a member of two motorcycle clubs and a licensed Event Manager and Route Planner with the Motorcycling Union of Ireland. I’ve also trained with First Bike on Scene (FBoS) – Emergency Response Skills (ERS) Course. I’m now sharing with others my passion of touring Ireland by motorcycle. I aim to give my clients a true taste of Ireland from the seat of a motorbike, by riding on the Wild Atlantic Way and the Whole Way Around Ireland.

WILDIRISH Motorcycle Tours is fully insured with both public liability insurance and on road insurance to lead tours. We will be adding tours so check back with us regularly. And my intention is to repeat the tours throughout the season so you can chose the time and dates that suit you. We will do whatever is necessary for riders and their pillions have an unforgettable motorcycle tour of Ireland.

At the end of a tour we think you will come to love Ireland and the people who live here. I look forward to meeting you all on a WILDIRISH Motorcycle Tour .

Make Touring Ireland Easy

Celtic Rider Ireland Logo

Motorcycle Rental Ireland

The primary reason that our self-drive package tours are so successful is that Celtic Rider Motorcycle Rental Ireland staff have meticulously put together the absolute best driving routes in Ireland with equally great Irish guesthouses and hotels. This has genuinely taken an enormous amount of time and effort over many years and is still an on-going process. Simply follow the Garmin GPS provided with our carefully selected routes and accommodation already installed.

We call our tours, ‘Push Button’ because this is how we have designed them to be for our clients. We believe in assisting our overseas clients to maximise their experiences while touring Ireland. There is no problem deviating from our suggested route, just make sure to get to your accommodation each evening. Click on links below for more details:

Why choose Celtic Rider Ireland?

Founded in 2007 by Paul & Siobhan Rawlins of Dublin, Celtic Rider Ireland has been recognised by Tourism Ireland, Failte Ireland and the Small Firms Association as a leading light company in the delivery of professionally delivered touring experiences on the island of Ireland.

Celtic Rider Ireland is a small 100% Irish family owned company that cares deeply about our clients, and we were fortunate in 2013 to win a prestigious national award, ‘Winner Outstanding Small Business of 2013’.

All our staff are Irish, knowledgeable about Ireland and passionate to share our beautiful island with overseas tourists. We want our clients to see and experience the real Ireland, with its abundance of visually stunning landscape and coastal vistas, the small old towns and villages where Irish tradition proudly lives on, and not just the usual Tour bus route options.

  • Most people planning a tour of Ireland will find themselves confused once research begins as there is simply an overwhelming array of things to see and experience in our old country.

The same goes for accommodation, sometimes what you see advertised on the internet can be disappointing on arrival.

So to do away with countless hours of research, simply book your Ireland adventure with Celtic Rider Ireland self-drive Motorcycle & Car tours Ireland.

Our premises are only 40 minutes from Dublin Airport and 20 minutes from Dublin city.

Safety Orientation Course – visit our safety orientation page.

As with all our Self-Drive Motorcycle & Car tours, Celtic Rider Ireland designed a safety orientation course (approximately one hour classroom session, followed by one two hours on the road) which was specifically created to introduce drivers who drive on the right side, to Irish driving culture and situations to expect as you tour our island. This safety orientation course is included in our price structure for tours only. Feedback from clients from USA and Canada, and indeed most of the world, are so positively in favour of the benefits of our orientation course, with most riders saying it should be mandatory. Client safety is paramount to Celtic Rider.

The 2024 Tribeca Festival has officially unveiled its shorts lineup.

Presented by OKX , the festival includes short narrative, documentary, and animated films, as well as music videos. This year’s festival takes place June 5 through 16, and boasts 12 short film sections, including 87 total shorts from 101 filmmakers with 65 films in competition and 10 music videos.

Highlights include the world premieres of “Motorcycle Mary,” directed by Haley Watson and produced by two-time Oscar winner Ben Proudfoot, Rachel Greenwald, seven-time Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton; queer romance “Ripe!,” directed by TUSK and produced by two-time World Cup champion and Olympic gold medalist Kelley O’Hara; PTSD drama “Bite”   starring Troian Bellisario; and “Out of the Dark: Cal Calamia” about transgender marathon runner Cal Calamia.

The New York narrative shorts lineup includes the world premieres of star-studded “Happy to Help You” with Amy Sedaris and Jeremy Beiler, and “Veo Veo A Family”   starring Carla Gugino and KO.

The program’s four categories — narrative shorts, documentary shorts, animated shorts, and music videos — thematically highlight and explore bold stories of joy, love, and safety, showcasing expressions of Black freedom, the Latin American experience, and Caribbean culture. This year’s selections examine the follies of youth and the absurdities of life with humor and hubris.

Oscar winner Whoopi Goldberg also curates an animated shorts program featuring a trio of films with “Nate & John,” “Budō, and “In The Shadow Of the Cypress.”

The full short film lineup is detailed below.
