Spoiler alert! This story contains minor spoilers from the latest episode of  Star Trek: Picard .

It's a family affair for LeVar Burton and his daughter, Mica Burton, on  Star Trek: Picard .

The real-life father and daughter share the screen for the first time on the latest episode of the Paramount+ series, "The Bounty," with LeVar reprising his beloved  Next Generation  character , Geordi La Forge, and Mica portraying one of Geordi's two daughters, Ensign Alandra La Forge. (Geordi's other daughter, Ensign Sidney La Forge, mans the controls of the USS Titan and is played by Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut.)

The idea for LeVar to don the iconic  Star Trek  uniform alongside Mica was an idea borne out of a conversation he had with showrunner Terry Matalas about returning to the franchise, the  Next Generation  alum revealed in an interview with ET on Wednesday. "Never would I have ever thought of going to them and saying, 'Hey, what about my kids being in Star Trek ?'" the 66-year-old actor admitted. "And I would've said no," Mica, an actress and gamer in her own right, confessed.

So how did it all come together? ET spoke with the father-daughter pair about their onscreen debut together, the surreal reality of reuniting with the  Next Generation  crew and that intriguing cliffhanger at the end of the latest episode.

ET: First off, how did this all come to be?

LeVar Burton: When Terry approached me about reprising the role of Geordi La Forge and he asked me if I had any desires, any wishes in terms of where he would be when we find him, I said, "The only thing I really need is for him to be a family man and have a healthy relationship with his family." I never liked that Geordi, as the chief engineer, as the nerd, was discomforted by the presence of women. That pissed me off. I thought it was really lazy on the writers' part. And even in [the  Next Generation  series finale] "All Good Things," when it's revealed that Geordi is married and has two children -- daughters Alandra and Sidney -- the idea that he was married to Dr. Leah Brahms, the woman that he stalked in the episode, "Booby Trap," creating a holo deck of her, was really creepy to me. And so I really wanted to rehabilitate that part of Geordi's canon and Terry came through, above and beyond. I mean, I never would've dreamt this scenario up and I'm so grateful that he did.

Mica, what was it like stepping onto set with your father and being able to share this experience with him?

Mica Burton : It's interesting because every time I'm asked, "What was it like?" the first thing I can say is, professional. I went to an acting conservatory and he's been doing this his entire life, almost since he was 19, so he's one of the most consummate professionals that I know. And I think that that's what came first and foremost. I did audition for this role and I took it seriously every day at work, but I think the added benefit was we drove to work together and at the end of the day, I was hanging out with my dad and my extended family being the Star Trek family. So it was just a very comfortable environment to be doing my job.

You're playing father and daughter onscreen as Geordi and Alandra. Was that dynamic different or similar to your real-life relationship?

Mica:  Thankfully our relationship dynamic is completely different on the screen than it is in real life. Alandra's very much that little duckling following behind Geordi. Very respectful, enamored, knows that her father is a commodore and respects that. She's an engineer herself and probably did that because of him rather than realizing that that was her passion all along. Meanwhile, I love embarrassing my father. Nothing brings me more joy than making jokes at his expense.

LeVar:  To see me squirm.

Mica:  Yes, it's so fun for me, but that's because we have that relationship and I think it's because I've grown up being able to pal around with him. We grew up gaming together and we have that easygoing relationship that sadly, Alandra doesn't have with her father. She sees him as this almost untouchable idol rather than just as a father. She sees him as Geordi La Forge trademark. I'm thankful that I don't see him as LeVar Burton trademark. I see him as dad, so I can make fun of him.

LeVar : Yes, exactly.

What were those moments like in between scenes on set because, LeVar, you are back with your Next Generation family, which is monumental. And then Mica, is now a part of that as well.

LeVar:  For me, one of the best aspects of it was... I don't know if coming out party for Mica is the right word, but she's an adult now, and so I had an opportunity to observe her in a dynamic relationship with the cast as an equal, as a grown-up and that was awesome. Very, very cool to be able to hold context for both. She's still in my eyes, the little girl that I used to play Tomb Raider with, but she's also a professional actor and seeing her act with the best acting partners I've ever had, is very cool for me as both an actor and a dad.

Mica:  And I think that that's how it was with everyone because there were moments that we've talked about before I was even in costume my first day on set, Jonathan [Frakes] broke into tears.

LeVar:  But we were just there visiting.

Mica : Just there visiting, but he was just emotional of the fact that this was the beginning of it. But then later he was directing me and we interacted, but that's just so cool that on one hand, I'm like, "Yeah, you've known me since I was literally zero minutes old." Later he was referring to me as an equal. My family was treating me as a professional actor, as an equal and how many people can say that? That Brent Spinner was in a scene with you treating you like you were his scene partner because you were, not just because you were Levar Burton's daughter. That's cool.

This episode that you're both in is quite a major one for  Picard  and includes quite a few  Next Generation  cast returns, notably Bret Spiner's Data, as well as a big revelation related to Jean-Luc. What do you want fans to know about the episode?

LeVar : What would I want the fans to know? Geordi's back and he's mad!

Mica:  I almost spat out my water. How dare you. Geordi's here to kick a** and drink tea, and he is all out of tea.

There was a funny moment with Geordi putting Jack Crusher in his place with regard to his other daughter, Sidney, as there may be something brewing there. Can you talk a little bit about that scene?

LeVar: I think that's the strength of the writing and showing the evolution of this character and all of the Next Gen crew. They've done a remarkable job of writing these characters in a way that we absolutely recognize them, and of course, they're the crew from the 1701-D [also known as the USS Enterprise] and we see that they are not the same people. They're not doing the same things. Riker has his own ship as we always knew he would. Beverly's out there on the frontier doing the Doctors Without Borders thing, right? Worf is now a Pacifist and Geordi is a family man, and his priorities are now keeping his family safe, and we see that Papa Bear comes out in many ways.

At the very end of the episode, we see the return of another Next Gen  crew member, Deanna Troi (Marina Sirtis), and learn the Changelings have stolen Jean-Luc Picard.  Literally . What can you share about what's next?

LeVar:  There is literally nothing I can say! Nothing we can say based on that question.

Mica:  Everything you asked cannot be answered.

How Star Trek’s LeVar Burton Helped Picard Actress Playing Geordi’s Daughter Feel Like She’s Part Of The Family

Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut talked about her new character.

Sidney La Forge on Star Trek: Picard on Paramount+

Star Trek: Picard Season 3 will be the ultimate and likely final adventure for the characters of The Next Generation , but there are plenty of new faces who will appear in the last season as well. Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut is one of those newcomers to the franchise, stepping into the very important role of playing Sidney, the daughter of LeVar Burton 's Geordi La Forge. Burton's other real-life daughter, Mica, will play Geordi's other daughter, Alandra. Off-camera, they're not all related, but one could see how this entire crew as a family given how warmly Chestnut says the Burtons welcomed her in.

Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut spoke to CinemaBlend ahead of the premiere of Star Trek: Picard Season 3 and recalled how LeVar Burton made her feel like she was part of the family. Chestnut talked about the Burtons and the special invite she received when she first moved to Los Angeles:

They invited me to Thanksgiving when I first moved to LA, so being able to see their family dynamic [really helped]. They’re just really genuine, good people. Mica [Burton] and I, we had lunch not long ago. We still keep in contact. And LeVar too. They’re just great people.

Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut thinks the Burton family is great, but you don't have to take her word for it. LeVar Burton's general public persona after Star Trek has shown he's someone audiences want to stick around, even if he'll never host Jeopardy! full time . Still, it's nice to hear that he and his daughter Mica welcomed Chestnut in with open arms.

The good news for Star Trek: Picard fans is that we'll get to see the fruits of that friendship play out onscreen during Season 3. Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut spoke briefly about Sidney and Alandra La Forge's relationship, and how it's rooted in her real-life friendship with Mica Burton:

Alandra and Sydney have this really great relationship, and I think that’s a testament to our relationship off-camera and the friendship that we started to build.

Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut's Sidney La Forge is an ensign in Starfleet, though she's not quite the chip off the old block when it comes to her role. While Commodore Geordi La Forge was known for his work in engineering , Sidney serves as the helmsman on the U.S.S. Titan (via TrekCentral ). Apparently, she wanted to fly the ship rather than work on repairs, and truthfully, I'd feel the same way given how often I've seen engineering teams dealing with warp core troubles.

It seems fated that Star Trek: Picard can't end without Jean-Luc's death.

The La Forge family joins join a gaggle of other characters, like Worf, Beverly Crusher, and Deanna Troi , in Star Trek: Picard Season 3. This is said to be the final adventure of the series, though with upcoming Star Trek shows popping up all the time, perhaps we'll see some of these characters appear in other shows in the years to come.

Those with a Paramount+ subscription can catch the premiere of Star Trek: Picard Season 3 on Thursday, February 16th. Catch up on the previous seasons now or check out some of the other shows available to binge right now on the platform.

WARP FIVE: LeVar and Mica Burton on Making Star Trek: Picard A Family Affair On- and Off-Screen

The Titan finds themselves calling upon the father-daughter duo!

SPOILER WARNING: Discussion for Star Trek: Picard Season 3, Episode 6 "The Bounty" to follow!

Welcome to Warp Five, StarTrek.com's five question post-mortem with your favorite featured talent from the latest Star Trek episodes.

Star Trek legend LeVar Burton last appeared on-screen as Geordi La Forge over 20 years ago in Star Trek Nemesis . However, La Forge has never strayed too far from Jean-Luc Picard’s mind. In the first season of Star Trek: Picard , when it was suggested that the retired admiral call upon his friends from his time on the Enterprise -D, such as William Riker, Worf, and Geordi La Forge, Picard dismisses the idea stating, “They would do it in a heartbeat, and that’s precisely why I cannot ask them. They would put themselves at risk out of loyalty to me, and I do not want to go through that again.”

However, as seen in the events of the third season of Star Trek: Picard , the crew aboard the U.S.S. Titan -A, which includes La Forge’s daughter Ensign Sidney, have uncovered a Changeling conspiracy that has infiltrated the highest levels of Starfleet. In “ The Bounty ,” Picard must turn to the only soul in the galaxy who can help in their time of most desperate need — his old friend, Geordi La Forge.

StarTrek.com had the opportunity to speak with both LeVar Burton and his real-life daughter Mica Burton , who plays his other daughter Ensign Alandra La Forge , about bringing the father-daughter dynamic to Star Trek: Picard !

On the Long-Awaited Return of Geordi La Forge

Star Trek fans have long clamored for LeVar Burton to reprise his fan-favorite role that of one of Starfleet’s top engineers. The former chief engineer of the Enterprise -D, and then later Enterprise -E, now holds the rank of Commodore and oversees the preservation and restoration of historic starships at the Fleet Museum.

Speaking on his return, LeVar calls the entire experience “stone-cold gas.” “I loved every moment of it,” explains Levar. “You got to understand, we never thought this would happen, a reunion. We believed that that ship had sailed on completing the circle, closing the circle for the Next Gen crew. This came as a huge surprise, and the fact that [showrunner] Terry Matalas has not just the skill as a writer, but his deep love of The Next Generation really has made this whole journey something truly special.”

And how easy or difficult was it to get back into the groove of the role of Geordi? It simply just clicked for LeVar, who notes, “I put on the spacesuit, and I put in the contact lenses, and I’m there.”

On The Next Generation and the Next Next Generation

During our chat, Mica Burton takes a second to rib her father, laughing while calling out, “You keep calling it a ‘spacesuit,’” to which LeVar retorts, “We all call them [that]. They’re our spacesuits. We call our costumes our ‘spacesuits’ because we wear them while we work in space.”

Geordi and Alandra La Forge stand side by side in Engineering of the Titan

Mica adds, “That’s so interesting. Ashlei [Sharpe Chestnut] and I call them ‘jumpsuits.’” Responding very much like a father, LeVar exclaims, “Well, there you go.”

As Mica puts it, “Well, one sounds more fun than the other.”

On Officially Welcoming Mica Burton into the Star Trek Family

Mica Burton is no stranger to Star Trek , hosting the official 2021 Star Trek Day event. However, she now has her pips as Ensign Alandra La Forge, and is following in her father’s footsteps, literally and figuratively.

On the whole experience, Mica comments, “It's so mind-blowing that I'm even sitting here having this conversation with you, and that I got to join my family on-screen and knowing growing up that these are some of the most phenomenal actors of my generation that I'll watch on-screen.”

Star Trek: Picard - The Bounty

“I'm a fan of Patrick Stewart, and I've known him since I was born,” continues Mica, “So to be able to act across from him, to share lines with him, to know that we've worked on a project together, I can't put that into words, let alone know that I was there with my dad, my actual real-life dad. He drove me to work every day, even when my call time was way earlier before his. He drove me to work just so we could bond. I feel like that's stories that you can't write. I'm very aware of how lucky of a human being I am.”

Looking at his daughter, LeVar beams, “I can hardly describe it, truly extraordinary experience as a father and as a professional actor. For me, seeing the entire crew respond to Mica as a professional and to see her interacting with the cast and having them see her as an equal, it’s pretty cool.”

On the La Forge Family Affair

Commodore La Forge sees both of his daughters, Sidney and Alandra, follow in his footsteps and join Starfleet.

However, his eldest Sidney deviates, wanting to become a pilot, and finds herself aboard the U.S.S. Titan-A , while the youngest Alandra works alongside Geordi at the Fleet Museum.

Speaking on working with Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut, LeVar exclaims, “We love Ashlei,” with Mica echoing the sentiment, “We love Ashlei!”

The La Forge sisters, Ensign Alandra and Ensign Sidney, stand side-by-side on the bridge of the Titan

“Honestly, my favorite part about doing Picard press is talking about how much I love Ashlei, and how I have absolutely found a sister in that girl,” expands Mica, “She came over to our house for Thanksgiving while we were filming Picard , and we had her as a part of the Burton Family Thanksgiving, and it felt like she's always been there. We still to this day text and go out for drinks. She's a part of my heart and soul. I'm so happy that she is my sister.”

On working alongside her father, Mica details, “There is a scene that I can't give any context to because it's a huge spoiler. But I will say that because my dad is actually my father, I had to take a break from set because I got so emotional because he was doing such a good job evoking emotion, and I think that it really played well on camera, but it was because I was like ‘Ah, that's my dad. I can't turn that off. That is my father.’”

Geordi La Forge looks at Lore behind the Control Room door as a concerned Alandra looks on

LeVar further elaborates, “And for me, as an actor, there was a moment in that scene that Mica is talking about where Geordi turns and looks at Alandra, and that is the inspiration for where he takes the conversation.”

“Oh god, don’t tell me that,” exclaims Mica, “Now, I’m even more emotional,” to which LeVar notes, “So definitely we used it to our benefit.”

On Their Favorite Special Moments

In “The Bounty,” Geordi and Alandra find themselves on the Titan , where LeVar recalls a moment while filming that scene. “I haven’t talked to him about it, him being Terry Matalas, but I imagine that scene that I play with Todd [Stashwick] on the bridge of the Titan when his character, a former engineer, meets Geordi La Forge for the first time. In my own life, I have that moment at least once a day. It’s the Donald Glover moment from Community , and it was pretty meta playing that scene with Todd because it felt like it was taken right out of the book of my life."

Behind-the-scenes still of Mica Burton reacting to Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut on the set of Star Trek: Picard

As for Mica, she reflects, “Oddly enough, I think my favorite moment on-set was wrap. There were so many great speeches and so many people I admire giving me, Ashlei, and the crew of the Titan those props of being the new young generation of Star Trek actors. It was so emotional to be seen. That was the moment hilariously at the very end, it clicked that these legends see us as…,” with LeVar finishing her sentence, “…the next generation.”

LeVar Burton On Sharing The Screen With Daughter Mica in ‘Picard’

LeVar Burton experienced a touching moment while filming Star Trek: Picard  season 3 when his daughter Mica Burton was cast to play his child onscreen.

The father-daughter duo was grateful to share the screen together for the first time on the Paramount+ series for the episode titled “The Bounty,” Entertainment Tonight   reporte d. LeVar reprised his role as Next Generation character Geordi La Forge. Mica portrayed one of Geordi’s two daughters, Ensign Alandra La Forge.

After being asked to return for Picard , LeVar, 66, didn’t go into filming intending to secure a role for his daughter.

“Never would I have ever thought of going to them and saying, ‘Hey, what about my kids being in Star Trek?'” he admitted.

“And I would’ve said no,” Mica added.

However, the Reading Rainbow star spoke with showrunner Terry Matalas about making his character a “family man.”

“I never liked that Geordi, as the chief engineer, as the nerd, was discomforted by the presence of women. That pissed me off. I thought it was really lazy on the writers’ part,” LeVar Burton said.

“And even in [the Next Generation series finale] “All Good Things,” when it’s revealed that Geordi is married and has two children…the idea that he was married to Dr. Leah Brahms, the woman that he stalked in the episode, “Booby Trap,” creating a holo deck of her, was really creepy to me.

“And so I really wanted to rehabilitate that part of Geordi’s canon and Terry came through, above and beyond,” he continued. “I mean, I never would’ve dreamt this scenario up and I’m so grateful that he did.”

For Mica, it was an honor for the rising actress to share the screen with her dad, who has been a fixture on television for nearly 50 years.

“It’s interesting because every time I’m asked, “What was it like?” the first thing I can say is, professional,” she shared.

“I went to an acting conservatory and he’s been doing this his entire life, almost since he was 19, so he’s one of the most consummate professionals that I know. And I think that that’s what came first and foremost.”

LeVar Burton's Daughter Says Star Trek: Picard Gave Her The Opportunity To Be More Than A 'Nepo Baby'

Geordi and Alandra La Forge arriving

The concept of the next generation has been made literal in Season 3 of "Star Trek: Picard" as LeVar Burton returns to the franchise with his daughter Mica in tow. Burton reprises his decades-old role of Geordi La Forge on the Paramount+ show. La Forge was first introduced as a regular character on "Star Trek: The Next Generation" in 1987, and Burton played the character through 2002's "Star Trek: Nemesis." Mica Burton, the youngest of his two children, joins "Picard" alongside him as Ensign Alandra La Forge, Geordi's daughter. Although this might be the elder Burton's last appearance on "Star Trek," it seems the La Forge name will live on with his on-and-off-screen progeny.

But Mica Burton wants fans to know she doesn't view herself as a legacy admission into the "Star Trek" franchise. Speaking to IndieWire , Burton explained, "The more I talk about it, the more I realize just how much it means to me that my career has come to the point where I felt comfortable sharing space with my dad in a way that I didn't feel like I would be looked at as the 'nepo baby' when 'Picard' Season 3 came around."

Mica Burton has begun to forge a career of her own

The term "nepo baby" is a shortened form of "nepotism baby," an often derisive term used to refer to children of highly influential or famous figures who strike out on their own careers, especially within the entertainment industry. While a "nepo baby" may have some talent of their own, their success is often attributed by the public to the connections forged and influence wielded by their parent (or parents). Of course, such practices have always shaped many industries, but the topic of nepo babies in fields of entertainment has come into vogue of late during a time of extreme inequality and increased exposure to celebrity culture via social media. It appears self-evident that those fortunate enough to have a parent already connected to the industry often have an easier time jumpstarting a career, but whether that leg up on their peers tarnishes their work is a value judgment that many consider best left to individuals.

As for Mica Burton, she's happy to work alongside her father but wants to be recognized as her unique self. Prior to her role on "Star Trek: Picard," Burton was best known for her cosplaying, as well as for playing characters on "Dungeons and Dragons" web shows. "My whole purpose in my career when I started out in the geek world was to not be LeVar Burton's daughter," Burton explained to IndieWire. "I wanted to be Mica Burton. Mica Burton the gamer, Mica Burton the cosplayer, Mica Burton the host. But now being able to feel comfortable having this acting role with him as I pursue my acting career to its fullest, it's just so freaking cool. The universe really gave us a present. I'm a happy little nerd."

'Star Trek: Picard' Season 3: LeVar Burton and Mica Burton on the La Forge Family Dynamic

They also tease the scenes fans should keep a close eye on for Easter eggs, and the spin-off potential for 'The Next Generation' kids.

The third and final season of Star Trek: Picard is shaping up to be one of the best seasons of Star Trek —ever—and a large part of that is due to the care that has gone into crafting a long-overdue Star Trek: The Next Generation reunion. The first handful of episodes reunited Jean-Luc Picard ( Patrick Stewart ) with William Riker ( Jonathan Frakes ), as they set off across the galaxy on a mission to rescue Dr. Beverly Crusher ( Gates McFadden ) and her son Jack Crusher ( Ed Speleers ), who she had hid from Picard for twenty years.

With the Changeling threat looming over all of them , Picard and the crew of the U.S.S. Titan find themselves at the Fleet Museum in Episode 6, where Geordi La Forge ( LeVar Burton ) and his daughter Alandra La Forge ( Mica Burton ) are pulled into the slowly unraveling mystery, reuniting them with old friends and La Forge's other daughter Sidney La Forge ( Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut ). At New York Comic Con last year, in addition to revealing The Next Generation cast that would be returning for Star Trek: Picard Season 3, it was revealed that LeVar Burton's real-life daughter Mica Burton , would be officially joining the Star Trek family as La Forge's daughter Alandra.

Ahead of the Episode 6 premiere , Collider had the opportunity to sit down and speak with LeVar and Mica Burton about working together on the third season of Star Trek: Picard , in addition to discussing how this Geordi La Forge compares to the anti-time future Geordi La Forge in The Next Generation finale, what it was like for Mica to work with her on-screen sister Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut, where she thinks Alandra would fit into a potential spin-off, and what they can tease about the rest of the season, including an Easter egg that fans should keep an eye out for.

COLLIDER: So in the Star Trek: The Next Generation finale, Geordi has kids in the anti-time future, which happened to also be named Alandra and Sidney. How would you compare that version of Geordi with this version?

LEVAR BURTON: In this version, we are certain that the mother of Geordi's children is not Dr. Leah Brahms.

Okay, interesting. Is that something that we might learn, or is there somebody that you have in mind in your head when you're playing the role?

MICA BURTON: Beyoncé. I've made it canon that our mother is Beyoncé. Terry Matalas has confirmed it on Twitter.

Oh, well, there you go. Mica, one of the highlights of the Star Trek panel at New York Comic-Con last year was the announcement that you would be joining your dad in the series. It was so great, I was with my mom, and I was right behind you in the theater, and it was just the coolest thing. But I'm really curious to know what the process was like for you joining the show.

MICA: Well, it wasn't something that I think my dad and I ever thought was going to happen, seeing as I really love to make my name outside of his, and also, I was never a fan of Star Trek … I was a Star Wars kid. But, when Terry wrote this new story for Geordi, and it involved daughters, and it coincided with a time in my career that I felt I had established myself in my own right, and now would be a really fun time to work with my dad, the opportunity presented itself to audition. And audition I did.

Excellent. I worked on a superhero movie with my mom, and it was like the coolest experience to share together. What was this like for both of you to work together in Star Trek ?

LEVAR: On many levels, it was next level. Because not ever having expected this, this soon in her career, this comes as a great surprise, as well as a great gift. And she's been a part of the Star Trek family behind the scenes, off-camera for the whole of her life. She was actually born just a couple of weeks after we finished Star Trek Generations .

Actually, no. In fact, no. She was supposed to have been born a couple of weeks after we finished Generations , but she came a little early. I finished Generations , was going to go on a personal retreat up to the mountains, and the night before I left for retreat, she came.

MICA: I am so sorry I ruined your trip.

LEVAR: So I say that to say, what a thrill it was for me to work with her, but also to see her work with the rest of the cast that have been members of her family since she got here.

MICA: Yeah, I don't think I remember a time in my life without Uncle Michael, Uncle Patrick, Aunt Marina, Aunt Gates, et cetera, et cetera. They've always been there. So it was such a phenomenal experience. And, being as we are all also professional actors, it was incredibly business and professional when the cameras were rolling, but to be able to sit off-set with people that you've known for almost three decades, I'll never have an opportunity like this again. This is a very once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

LEVAR: But also, to see how all of these other professionals, both in front of and behind the camera, regarded Mica as another professional in the mix. That makes both her mother and me very proud.

It's very exciting. Mica, for you in Episode 6, we see that Alandra is a little bit more like her dad than Sidney is, but what would you say is Alandra's guiding light for how she navigates her career and her life?

MICA: I think it really is, it is her father. A mannerism I picked up from my dad on set that he didn't notice until he saw the first picture of us in uniform together, is that I hold my hands exactly how he holds his hands in front of him and behind him. And I think that that is kind of who Alandra is. She so much looks up to her father that she so much wants to be like him, but also envies Sidney for having the courage to be somewhat different. But I think that both sisters have their own little mini versions of Geordi in themselves.

I love that. LeVar, going back to you. I know all of you that have been in The Next Generation , you have a little bit of ownership in terms of your characters and the things you've talked about them over the years in that interim time. But for you, how much do you have mapped out for what's been going on in his life over these last 20 years, or so?

LEVAR: None, except to say he got married and had kids, and it wasn't with Leah Brahms.

Something I really love about Picard is how they've brought back The Next Generation characters and shown that they haven't stayed stagnant from the last time we saw them. They've evolved, for better and for worse, and it makes for really compelling television. Can you talk about playing Geordi as someone who seems a little bit more by-the-books than he was maybe the last time we saw him?

LEVAR: I guess in terms of filling in the blanks, there is more than what I just said because obviously there's been a lot of professional development that has happened in the intervening years. Geordi is an admiral, and is in charge of one of the most precious assets–

MICA: Commodore.

LEVAR: Commodore. Well, that's a Rear Admiral. Commodore is a Rear Admiral.

MICA: I'm sorry I don't know the naval terms! Commodore La Forge, not Admiral La Forge.

LEVAR: You're right, you're right. You're absolutely right. Geordi is a commodore .

MICA: Thank you.

LEVAR: And he's in charge of the Starfleet Museum, which is one of the most precious resources that the Federation owns. Yeah, and he is a parent, and Picard is gallivanting around the galaxy with my kid, Sidney. And Geordi feels a certain way about Picard putting her in danger. So yeah, Geordi is a little bit more by the book. Geordi isn't all lovey-dovey. When we first encounter him in Episode 6, he has a few things he needs to get off his chest.

Just a few. Mica, now that we've seen this glimpse of the next generation of The Next Generation with Sidney and Alandra, and Jack, I feel like the audience is not going to want to let go of these characters. If there is any hope of a potential spinoff—I know Terry and so forth on Twitter have been really hoping for something like that, and I know fans are as well—how do you think Alandra would fit into something like that?

MICA: I mean, Alandra is an engineer. She knows exactly her position, she knows that position well. She'll fit in on any Starship, and also she needs to keep an eye on her sister. Older sisters aren't always right. Older sisters don't always know what they're doing. You need the younger sister's intuition to kind of be there and keep her out of trouble. So I think that any sister dynamic is always fun to watch happen, any sibling dynamic. So two siblings on a Starship, that's never happened before. We need to see that. We need to see how that would go down. I would love to continue this role, and I know that Ashlei Sharpe, who plays Sidney, she has become my sister in real life. Ed and I have also become great friends. All three of us are pals. We would love to continue being the next Next Generation together.

I love that. What has it been like for you getting to explore this sister dynamic with Ashlei?

MICA: So fun. [It’s] just me in my household, I'm the only burden, so I've never had a sibling, I've never had a sister. So, to come in and feel like I have a sister every day on set– I mean, Ashlei and I would text each other every day. We still do. We hang out all the time. She came to Thanksgiving at our house during Picard filming because she didn't have enough time over break to go home. So we were like, "Obviously, you're part of our family." And she really is.

I mean, she was there every step of the way while I was meeting my now-boyfriend, giving me advice, helping me craft texts, and they finally got to meet at the Picard premiere and it was almost like they already knew each other. It was great. I really do feel like—I know it's such a cliche that my onscreen sister is like my sister, but I would fight a million people for Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut, over and over again.

Well, that's how you know she's a real sister now because she's been helping you craft those texts.

MICA: I know! I was like, we've already done girl-talk, sleepover time, and she's helped me nail down my boyfriend. I genuinely don't know if I would've been as smooth in my texts without Ashlei's help.

I love that so much. LeVar, for you, something I've really been impressed with this season of Picard is the amount of Easter eggs and hidden nuggets that can be found, that are built into this set. Were there any that you saw that really caught your attention or something that was like, this is how they know Geordi?

LEVAR: Absolutely. Can I talk about them? I don't think... Can I?

MICA: There's not a lot we can talk about.

LEVAR: I'll say yes, there are, and I can say this: watch very closely at the phone call that Geordi has with Picard. When my character enters the adventure, pay close attention to the environment that Geordi is in.

Okay, that's a good tease. This is a question for both of you, it's a little bit fun. I really love that scene in Episode 6 where Jack and Seven are looking at all of the ships that are at the Fleet Museum. If you could abscond with one of the iconic Star Trek ships, which one would you choose?

MICA: Honestly, and maybe this is because I'm biased, it would be the Titan [which] is, technically, now iconic. It would be the Titan , and no offense, it's because so many of the older ships are carpeted, and I really don't vibe with that. I feel like that's a hazard waiting to happen. I don't want to have to bring a carpet cleaner to space, so I'm going to go with the Titan . No offense to your Enterprise .

LEVAR: That's incredible. I love that, but you know, nobody wears heels on the Enterprise .

MICA: And maybe that was another problem, heels slap. I'm just saying.

Oh, I love that so much.

MICA: What about you? What ship would you take?

LEVAR: Oh, I think it would be one of the Next Gen ships, maybe the one that we didn't crash.

MICA: You crashed all the ships. That’s one thing about Star Trek , as well, is that every crew just decimates these ships. I feel like they don't just grow on trees.

LEVAR: It's a good action sequence.

MICA: Well, man, you know what? I hope one day I get to crash my own ship.

LEVAR: Well, I hope you do too. I hope you get that opportunity.

Put that on the wishlist for the next Next Generation series.

LEVAR: Your sister is already known as Crash La Forge.

MICA: I want to be Crash 2: Electric Boogaloo. That's what I want my nickname to be.

Oh, gosh. For my last question, Mica, what was maybe the most pinch-yourself, you-can't-believe-this-is-happening moment for you with this journey? Was it the sets? Was it getting into a uniform? What was the experience that you're like, "I can't believe this is happening right now"?

MICA: Gosh, honestly, I can't spoil it, but there's this moment where a good majority of all of us are together at once. And I think looking around the room... Oh my gosh, I'm getting choked up. It was almost like a death, a life flashing before your eyes, but I looked around at all of my family who have been there, and I saw Brent and me when I was a kid, and he was doing magic tricks to entertain me at–

LEVAR: Easter brunch.

MICA: [At] Easter brunch. And I saw Patrick calling me, it was the middle of the night in London, but it was the night before my theater school audition, and he called me to encourage me. I saw my parents make fun of me all the time, me flirting with Michael Dorn when I was a baby because I had a crush on him. And I just looked around the room, and I was like, "I can't believe I'm here." And it was just magical. Genuinely. I think that was the moment.

LeVar Burton's ‘awesome’ return to Star Trek is a family affair

Actor and advocate LeVar Burton joined Good Day New York on Thursday, along with filmmaker Jenny MacKenzie. The two discussed a new documentary about literacy, but also took a moment to talk about the return of Geordi La Forge.

NEW YORK - LeVar Burton is back as Geordi La Forge in the third and final season of ‘Star Trek: Picard.’ It’s been a while since we saw the Enterprise’s former chief engineer in a Starfleet uniform, but Burton is excited to return to the role.

"It was awesome," he said Thursday.

The actor, TV host, and reading enthusiast was on Good Day New York to promote ‘The Right to Read,’ a documentary he produced along with filmmaker Jenny MacKenzie.

"I know fully well I am the man that I am due to the literary influences that have been a part of my life, for the whole of my life," he explained. "Literacy, I see it as a civil right, and this documentary that Jenny has made really does frame childhood literacy through that lens."

Burton has spent decades advocating for literacy, going back to his days as host of the kids show ‘Reading Rainbow.’ But he’s also known globally for his Star Trek role, and he said it was "just the best time imaginable" getting the ‘Star Trek: The Next Generation’ crew back together for what many believe is a final send-off.

The third season is streaming now on Paramount Plus, though so far, the only La Forge that fans have seen is Geordi’s daughter Sidney, played by Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut, who follows in her father’s footsteps at the helm of a starship.

But Burton says it’s going to be even more of a family affair as the season progresses.

"My daughter Mica plays one of Geordi La Forge’s two daughters in ‘Star Trek: Picard,’" he continued. "It’s her debut and the first time she and I have been able to work together as father and daughter actors."

“It was great acting with Mica. I get to be not just a proud father in this regard, but also a fellow professional actor with my kid,” he told Metro . “There’s a great and grand tradition of second generation family members going into whatever the family business is, and I’m really thrilled to be able to provide a pathway for my own kid.”

LeVar first assumed the role of Geordi in 1987’s The Next Generation , and he revealed it was joyous to be able to return to the series : “For me, it was just being back together and hanging out and being on screen together,” he said.

“I think because our relationships are so much deeper and we’re all that much more seasoned as performers, the level of work was just really spectacular,” he continued. “So it was a double joy - coming to work every day and being with our friends and then getting in front of the camera and just throwing down really good stuff.”

LeVar wasn’t the only actor to reminisce about his time in the franchise, with Jonathan Frakes recently telling Digital Spy that he kept in touch with his castmates even before the reunion.

“I think the concept is that we hadn't seen each other and we'd have to catch up,” he said. “[But in real life] we have a group text and we've been friends for 35 years - we're like a family.

“We see each other all the time. We work together, we do the conventions together, we communicate, we have drinks, dinner and lunch together. So it was [more like] we just happened to be caught on set again.,” he added.

Being LeVar Burton's Daughter Didn't Get Mica Burton Her Star Trek: Picard Role

Star Trek: Picard

In the final episode of "Star Trek: The Next Generation," called "All Good Things..."  (May 23, 1994), Capt. Picard (Patrick Stewart) had become unstuck in time and was randomly experiencing his past from seven years prior, his present, and his future 30 years hence, all out of sequence. This was an exciting premise for "Next Generation" Trekkies, as it allowed them to see one possible future for all their favorite characters. This has been a notable episode ever since the debut of "Star Trek: Picard" in 2020, as certain elements of the "All Good Things..." future timeline have sneakily made their way into the franchise's official canon.

For instance, "All Good Things..." features Picard tending to his family's winery, something he does in "Picard." "All Good Things..." also posited that Picard was diagnosed with Iromodic syndrome, a rare brain ailment. That syndrome becomes a plot point in the third season of "Picard." Notably, in both "All Good Things..." and "Picard," Geordi La Forge (LeVar Burton) has three children named Brett, Sidney, and Alandra. In the former, he was a novelist; in the latter, he was a museum curator, but his children remained consistent.

On "Picard," audiences have met two of those kids. Sidney (Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut) operates the helm on the U.S.S. Titan-A, and Alandra (Mica Burton) works with her dad at his starship museum. Mica Burton, one might note, is LeVar Burton's actual daughter.

In a recent interview with Collider , Mica talked about being cast as Alandra, and how her father didn't even know she auditioned for the part. She also said — heresy! — that she prefers "Star Wars" to "Star Trek."

Mica Burton's career

Mica Burton began acting professionally in 2015, appearing in Matt Hullum's sci-fi comedy film, "Lazer Team." Shortly thereafter, she began hosting various online, pop culture-related shows like "The Know" and "Achievement Hunter." Much of her career to date has been hosting various online chat and interview programs, many of them centered on role-playing games. Burton said that it was important she carve a niche for herself and not merely take jobs because of her father's celebrity status. Once she felt established, though, "Picard" crossed her desk and, well, she felt it was a good time to audition for something her father was known for. She said:

"Well, it wasn't something that I think my dad and I ever thought was going to happen, seeing as I really love to make my name outside of his, and also, I was never a fan of 'Star Trek' ... I was a 'Star Wars' kid. But, when [showrunner Terry Matalas] wrote this new story for Geordi, and it involved daughters, and it coincided with a time in my career that I felt I had established myself in my own right, and now would be a really fun time to work with my dad, the opportunity presented itself to audition. And audition I did."

Trekkies may simply have to overlook Burton's "Star Wars" fandom. We are open-minded people and accept everyone no matter what fandom they belong to (he said through gritted teeth).

LeVar's recollection

LeVar Burton, meanwhile, was happy to work with his own daughter, and recalled the story of her birth, which came during a crucial time in 1994 when he was filming "Star Trek Generations." Despite being a Starwoid, Mica was always seen by her dad as part of the "Trek" movie family. Coming back to work on "Picard" after several decades, LeVar seemed to feel, was a natural evolution for both of them. On working with Mica, LeVar said:

"On many levels, it was next level. Because not ever having expected this, this soon in her career, this comes as a great surprise, as well as a great gift. And she's been a part of the 'Star Trek' family behind the scenes, off-camera for the whole of her life."

"Star Trek: The Next Generation" ended its run in May of 1994. Filming on "Star Trek Generations"  began immediately after the TV series wrapped, and was released in theaters on November 18. In the middle of all that, in July, Mica was born. Indeed, LeVar revealed that she was actually born early, interrupting a post-wrap retreat he had planned.

"She was supposed to have been born a couple of weeks after we finished 'Generations,' but she came a little early. I finished 'Generations,' was going to go on a personal retreat up to the mountains, and the night before I left for retreat, she came."

Mica, a little sarcastically, merely replied, "I am so sorry I ruined your trip."

Both Burtons seem thrilled to finally be on camera together, regardless. Mica, from her tone, seems determined to continue on her own career. If one is into RPGs and PC gaming, she will likely continue to pop up.

LeVar Burton gushes about working with his daughter on Star Trek: Picard

LeVar Burton loved working with his daughter on the set of Star Trek: Picard.

LeVar Burton sounds like one proud poppa. The Star Trek: The Next Generation actor and franchise icon will be returning to the world of Trek one more time (at least) with the third and final season of Picard. The return of Burton will see the return of the bespectacled one; aka Geordi La Forge.

Burton and La Forge will both get to have the same honor both in and out of the franchise with both men working with their respective daughters. For La Forge, he has two daughters, both of whom will play a role in the upcoming story of Picard. For Burton, one of his on-screen daughters will be played by his own daughter; Mica Burton.

Burton could not be more proud of her, and has taken every step it seems to share as much of this experience with her as he can, telling fans at MegaCon (via TrekMovie.com );

"One of the blessings of this journey was that in the story… it’s about the next generation of the Next Generation. And Geordi has two daughters, one of whom is being played by Mica Burton, my daughter. She’s grown up with—these are here aunts and uncles and they’ve known her since before she got here. And to be able to work with all of us in a professional environment for my kid, and I got to go to work with it every day. I dragged us to work, and we carpooled every day because she lives under my roof again. And it was glorious… You know actresses have earlier makeup and hair calls than actors, but I would get up early to drive my kid to work because when is this going to ever happen again?"

LeVar Burton puts over the chemistry on the set of Star Trek: Picard

The Next Generation cast and crew have always had a tight relationship, and unlike the original series crew that were constantly at odds with one another for one reason or another, the Next Generation crew was very much one big family. Something Burton pointed out to the Mega Con faithful back in June. (via TrekMovie.com )

"It was an absolute blast being together again… you guys have heard how close we are, right? When I got married, Brent was my best man, Patrick, Jonathan and Michael were my groomsmen. We’ve seen each other through the birth of our children, through marriages, death of parents, divorces… And so the opportunity to be together again, and to be together again in spacesuits and play these characters that we all–we love these people as much as you do. Trust me. And you will see, I’m so proud of us because I think we all look pretty damn good. Not only are we aging and aging gracefully, but we’re aging appropriately. And that’s not always the case. And then there was the acting which, if you can imagine how good the chemistry is, it’s better now because our shared experiences are deeper and richer and have lasted longer, stood the test of time. And to be able to come in at the end of what has been a very long journey for Patrick and sort of seeing his energy level rise. because he was dead-dog tired when we got there. I really do believe that we helped carry him to the end in fine fashion, because he was surrounded by love."

Picard as a series has been maligned by many and rightfully so, but with the return of The Next Generation crew, it’s going to be a very interesting third and final season. The hope is that the return of our favorite crew members will help usher the final season of Jean-Luc Picard off with a bang, but we’ll have to wait and see if that happens.

Brent Spiner LeVar Burton Star Trek Picard

SPOILER ALERT: This story discusses major plot developments in Season 3, Episode 6 of “ Star Trek: Picard ,” currently streaming on Paramount+.

Of the many pleasures of the third season of “Star Trek: Picard,” the greatest has to be watching the cast of “ Star Trek: The Next Generation ” finally reunite on screen for the first time since the 2002 feature film “Star Trek: Nemesis.” That movie was a failure critically, commercially and with “Star Trek” fans, many of whom were especially upset that the beloved character of Data ( Brent Spiner ) was killed off.

Except, it turns out, he didn’t. In Episode 6 of Season 3 of “Picard,” Picard and much of the rest of his old crew from the U.S.S. Enterprise — Will Riker (Jonathan Frakes), Beverly Crusher (Gates McFadden), Worf (Michael Dorn) and Geordi La Forge ( LeVar Burton ) — discover that Altan created a brand new android body that contains the consciousnesses of not just Data, but his older brothers Lore (i.e. the evil one) and B-4 (i.e. the simple one), as well as Data’s android daughter, Lal. At the end of the episode, Picard and his compatriots activate this new android and get to speak to Data again for the first time in decades.

The moment was especially meaningful for Geordi, who was Data’s closest friend — and, it turns out, it was just as meaningful for Burton and Spiner, who’ve also been good friends for over 35 years. In an interview before the season began, they talked with Variety about what it was like to return to their characters and perform with the “TNG” cast for the first time in 21 years, whether they’d like to continue playing the roles past this season of “Picard,” why they’re so grateful to Season 3’s executive producer Terry Matalas, and the importance of learning how to “sit in discomfort.”

LeVar Burton: That implies we were badly behaved. I resist that a little. We were rambunctious. But we had no ill intention.

Brent Spiner: We had fun. We were on soundstages with no windows for 14 to 16 hours a day for 10 months a year. If we didn’t have fun, we would have murdered each other and we wouldn’t be friends today. But I wouldn’t say it was exactly the same [on “Picard”]. It was different. We didn’t have fun anymore. No, I’m kidding. We had fun. We enjoyed each other, but I don’t think it was quite as raucous as in the old days. We were trying to serve Terry Matalas, who had given us such nice stuff to play.

Burton: Quite frankly, we’re older and —

Spiner: More mature!

Burton: Slower.

Spiner: Exactly.

LeVar, had you been thinking about what Geordi might have been up to for all these years before signing onto this season?

Burton: No, not really. I mean, when it was clear that “Nemesis” was going to be our last hurrah, there was some sadness that we didn’t have an opportunity to go out, you know, knowing that we were going out. Creating a story that did that would have been nice. But after two decades, I’ve long since given up on the idea that we’d ever come back together again. So this was a pleasant surprise — and an opportunity, I think, to make an adjustment where Geordi is concerned that I felt really needed to happen. In the series, Geordi, as the engineer, was uncomfortable in the presence of women, which I never liked. Especially given that if you look at Worf as a Klingon and not human, then Geordi was the Black man who had maladaptive relationships with women. That felt uncomfortable as well. Terry’s idea that Geordi had kids, that he was a parent, addressed that for me really elegantly.

Brent, you’ve been saying goodbye to Data for over 20 years now.

Spiner: I’ve done it again and again.

How did you feel about playing this new version of him?

Spiner: Well, I can’t say too much about it, unfortunately, because I don’t want to blow it.

Burton: But this is after the sixth episode.

Spiner: The sixth episode, as I recall, we’ve seen bits of Data in a sort of a melange with several other characters, all coming through one body. Literally, there’s nothing more I can say about it, other than I’ve enjoyed the season. There’s a lot of good stuff still coming in [Episodes] 7 through 10.

Data’s skin is no longer the greenish pale hue — I imagine that was appealing.

Spiner: Well, it certainly saved a lot of time for me. Terry and I discussed this synthetic being having no gold eyes, either. But at the end of the day, we thought it needed that one distinguishing quality that just went through time and remains the same.

Geordi didn’t have his VISOR in most of the “TNG” movies, but did you enjoy being able to play the role on the show without it?

There’s a moment in Episode 6 where Geordi sees the Data being for the first time, and he’s immediately moved to see his friend again. What was it like for you both to act these roles together again after some 20 years?

Spiner: It felt very natural for me. We had such a history of of playing together, but primarily because we have so many years of being together since we last played the characters. Our affection for each other is no less than the characters have for each other. So it’s not particularly difficult to have that experience.

Burton: Brent Spiner’s hands down the best acting partner I’ve ever had in my life. There is an unspoken language that we have developed over time that comes quite naturally to us.

Spiner: Yeah, that’s right.

Burton: Brent was my best man when I got married. We are a part of each other’s lives and will be for the whole of our lives. So the opportunity to come back together again and get paid for it? Come on!

It’s been so gratifying for “TNG” fans to see how tightly knit the cast has remained since the show went off the air — that doesn’t always happen with TV casts. So LeVar, was it strange at all when “Star Trek: Picard” launched and Geordi wasn’t a factor in the story?

Burton: Well, Patrick set the table before he started shooting “Picard.” He brought us all together. He bought us dinner and he said, “I’m going solo.” In that moment, any thoughts or hopes of putting the band back together were laid to rest. So this came as a huge surprise and a great gift, really, from Terry Matalas, who loves “The Next Generation.” All of that affection that he has for this cast and that crew he wrote into the scripts.

At the same time, Brent, Jonathan Frakes and Marina Sirtis did appear in the first season of “Picard.” What it was like for you to watch that unfold?

Burton: You know, Adam, one of the things that I think in getting older and getting anything close to wise, is it is necessary to learn how to sit in the discomfort of life. When you are willing to do that, the reason for the discomfort will reveal itself. In my case, I believe that discomfort of seeing my friends go off and play and I was on the sidelines — the payoff was being OK with that. Because then, when the invitation came, it came with the whole band being put back together, and that’s the best scenario of all. I’m really grateful for that.

Terry Matalas has talked about how he saw this season as the fifth “TNG” movie. Did it feel that way to you both?

This has also been dubbed the final season of “Picard.” But Patrick recently said he’d want to continue. Would you?

Spiner: That remains to be seen. I don’t want to get ahead of ourselves. If the fans are there for us and enjoy it and want to see more. By the way, is this going to be visual or are you writing an article?

This will be an article.

Spiner: An article. So here’s what I would like you to write as your last line. You can quote me on this. I mean, you don’t have quote me — this is your last line: “I, for one, would like to see one of these ten-episode movies every single year as long as they can do it.”

LeVar, do you want to weigh in on this?

Burton: Look, this was an unexpected gift. I don’t want to begin to think about that possibility. Because it’s not wise, right? I’m trying to really enjoy this for what it is. There’s no expectation of anything happening beyond this, because this is the thing that I never thought would happen — and it’s happened . To expect or asked for or even contemplate anything more is just greedy.

Spiner: Yeah. I am greedy, as you know. I’m sitting in discomfort right now, hoping for a positive result!

Burton: But in your case, the discomfort is gas.

Spiner: That’s true.

On the flip side of that, will fans feel like this season was a true farewell to these characters?

Spiner: Potentially, not necessarily. LeVar and I’ve talked about the fact that if this lands in a way that we hope it lands, maybe it would be best to be the finale. And if there should be something more than this, well, as he said, that would just be another gift that we we can’t really contemplate at the moment.

Burton: Nobody wants to be Tom Brady.

Spiner: Right. Exactly. Although, he got a movie at the end!

Seven of nine hopes for star trek: picard spinoff explained by michelle hurd.

Star Trek: Picard actress Michelle Hurd speaks about her hopes for the future of Commander Raffi Musiker and Jeri Ryan's Captain Seven of Nine.

  • Raffi and Seven's relationship gets complicated in Star Trek: Picard season 3, with Seven becoming Captain of the USS Enterprise-G.
  • Michelle Hurd hopes to see more representation of addiction struggles and LGBTQ+ issues in the Star Trek universe through Raffi and Seven.
  • The potential spinoff, Star Trek: Legacy, may explore more romances, including Jack Crusher and Ensign Sidney La Forge, alongside Raffi and Seven.

Star Trek: Picard star Michelle Hurd has some ideas about how the story of Commander Raffi Musiker and Jeri Ryan's Captain Seven of Nine should continue. Raffi and Seven both joined the cast of Picard in season 1, and the two began exploring a romantic relationship at the end of the season. In Picard season 2, Raffi and Seven traveled back in time with Admiral Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) to Los Angeles in 2024. While working to find a way back home, Raffi and Seven discussed their relationship, which had grown somewhat strained.

In Star Trek: Picard season 3, Raffi and Seven work in different areas of Starfleet, with Raffi in Starfleet Intelligence and Seven stationed on the USS Titan. By the end of Star Trek: Picard season 3 , Seven has been promoted to Captain of the newly rechristened USS Enterprise-G with Raffi as her First Officer. Michelle Hurd sat down for an interview with IGN , where she discussed her hopes for Raffi and Seven's future. Read her quotes below:

I really want to see how Seven, Raffi, and Jack Crusher navigate the universe, but I also think that it's important to continue to tell the journey of people who are or who have been addicts. Because once we have it, we're there forever. What’s a better way to put that pressure on her than to be Number One and know that she has a responsibility not only to her captain and somebody who she cares very deeply for, but to Starfleet as well?
I think we could also continue to push and explore what it’s like having Seven of Nine as the first queer Star Trek captain without it being the focus. It should just be life and see how we navigate in it. Just like me talking about being dyslexic. I'd love for us to be able to reveal more of the things that people who look like they are presenting as ‘neurotypical normal’ are actually struggling with and going through. I think it would be phenomenal because you'll get an audience that is finally seeing themselves represented.

Seven Of Nine & Raffi’s Status Is “Complicated”, Says Star Trek: Picard's Michelle Hurd

Seven & raffi's star trek story depends on picard's star trek spinoff, despite fan excitement and the perfect setup, star trek: legacy remains unconfirmed..

Picard season 3 ended without wrapping up the story of Raffi and Seven's relationship, leaving the status of their romance unknown.

Although the potential Star Trek: Picard spin-off, Star Trek: Legacy, has long been rumored, it remains to be seen whether Raffi and Seven's story will continue. Picard season 3 ended without wrapping up the story of Raffi and Seven's relationship, leaving the status of their romance unknown. Not only will Raffi and Seven be spending more time together now that they are both on the bridge of the Enterprise-G, but Seven also outranks Raffi, which could lead to further complications. With Ensign Jack Crusher (Ed Speleers), the son of Jean-Luc Picard and Dr. Beverly Crusher (Gates McFadden), as a "Special Counselor to the Captain," things are likely to be far from boring on the newest Enterprise.

As revealed in Star Trek: Picard season 3's post-credits scene, Jack Crusher has also piqued the interest of his father's old foe, Q (John de Lancie), who can never resist the chance to mess with a member of the Picard family.

If Star Trek: Legacy does get the green light, Raffi and Seven's relationship may not be the only romance explored on the show. In Picard season 3, Jack Crusher and Ensign Sidney La Forge (Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut), daughter of Commodore Geordi La Forge (LeVar Burton), developed a friendship filled with flirtatious banter. While their relationship never developed further, there were definitely hints it could turn into something more. Hopefully, we will get to see more of Jack and Sidney, as well as Seven and Raffi, as their journeys in Star Trek: Picard felt like they were just getting started.

‘Butterfly in the Sky’: LeVar Burton talks about new documentary on ‘Reading Rainbow’

C an New Yorkers go anywhere? They can — especially if they take a look in a book and see the new documentary, “Butterfly in the Sky,” a behind-the-scenes look at the beloved children’s show, “Reading Rainbow,” hosted by LeVar Burton.

Bookworms of almost all ages most likely remember the educational, entertaining show, which ran on PBS from 1983 to 2006. Throughout each 30-minute episode, the award-w inning Burton took viewers on exciting adventures throughout the world, all in effort to foster a love of reading among kids in an age where television often prevailed over books when it came to down time.

Premiering at the Tribeca Film Festival, “Butterfly in the Sky” went on to screen at dozens of festivals, winning 14 awards. It is now showing in select theaters in NYC and will be available on select streaming services in April.

The premise behind ‘Reading Rainbow’

As discussed in the new documentary, rather than compete with TV, the show’s producers and creators — many of whom have backgrounds in education — embraced it. Each episode featured a particular children’s book that was brought to life on TV through exciting on-location segments, fun facts and interviews, all designed to entertain kids.

For example, the book, “Louis the Fish,” brought Burton to an aquarium to hang out with giant groupers. Meanwhile, the book, “The Bionic Bunny Show,” brought young readers to the set of “Star Trek: The Next Generation,” of which Burton was a cast member while he was hosting “Reading Rainbow” simultaneously.

The heartwarming documentary, which features interviews with Burton and other cast and crew members, gives viewers an inside look into the production of the iconic show. Inspiring and nostalgic, it also tells the story of Burton and details some challenges he and the show’s creators faced in cultivating a love of reading through television.

“It really did take me back and it was an experience where I was able to remember and relive some very cherished times, and the whole journey of the show and the people who made the show,” Burton told amNewYork Metro in an interview. “It’s been many years since we were all together. Seeing us all at a much younger time period in our lives was also very cool.”

Burton spoke about the unwavering passion and dedication of “Reading Rainbow” crew members who appear in the documentary, including Cecily and Larry Lancit, Twila Liggett and many others.

“Not that I didn’t know this already, but to see and hear their passion, and have it memorialized, my heart was full,” Burton, who is now 67, added.

From ‘Roots’ to ‘Reading Rainbow’

In “Butterfly in the Sky”, Burton discusses his iconic role in the classic ABC television mini series, “Roots,” where he played the character , Kunta Kinte, a young Gambian man who was enslaved and brought to America in the late 1700s.

“The story of slavery in America had never been told from the perspective and point of view of the Black people before,” Burton explains in the documentary. “It had always been explained as an economic engine necessary. There are politicians who say that up to this day.”

Almost the entire country watched the groundbreaking series, which first aired in 1977 and was re-aired several times in subsequent years. Burton’s Kunta Kinte, to this day, is a character that lives in the hearts and minds of many people across the world.

“‘Roots’ taught me about the power of the meaning of television,” Burton said. “It was there that I really learned that all television is education.”

What is LeVar Burton’s favorite episode of ‘Reading Rainbow?’

With so many adventure-packed episodes that took him to exotic locations around the world, it is hard to just pick one, Burton said.

But there are some that standout. One example, Burton said, is the episode named for the book, “Hill of Fire,” which brought cast and crew to a Hawaiian island to get an up-close view of an active volcano that was, per nature, scheduled to erupt.

What did Burton and his team want? To get the volcanic eruption on film for “Reading Rainbow” fans to see.

“We did two shows, I believe, on the island, and we were finished,” he said. “We waited for a couple of days and were getting ready to go home because it just didn’t seem like it was going to happen. We were there because there was a good possibility. And just when we surrendered, gave up and were about to go home, off she went.”

And so, young viewers were able to see footage of magnificent natural event on TV.

“Butterfly in the Sky” details a mostly delightful and happy look at the class TV show, but it also discusses challenges producers faced over the years, one of them being public broadcasting faced with budget cuts.

But overall, directors Bradford Thomason and Brett Whitcomb give audiences of all ages the opportunity to relive the show’s legacy. Both Thomason and Whitcomb call “Reading Rainbow” an “unsung hero” of children’s television.

“Having both grown up in Texas, ‘Reading Rainbow’ not only reflected the diverse cultures that surrounded us, but LeVar Burton also introduced us to other worlds in colorful and magical ways,” the directors shared. “We believe ‘Reading Rainbow’ is among the most important shows ever produced and a true unsung hero of children’s programming.”

How to watch ‘Butterfly in the Sky’

New Yorkers can see the documentary at AMC theaters Lincoln Square 13 and Empire 25 on March 20 and will be available to watch on iTunes and Amazon starting on April 30.
