Coldplay Pledges to Lower Carbon Emissions on 2022 Tour

On Thursday (Oct. 14), Coldplay announced the dates for its 2022 global tour in support of the upcoming album 'Music of the Spheres.'

Coldplay announced the dates for an expansive 2022 world tour in support of the group’s upcoming Max Martin-produced album, Music of the Spheres  on Thursday morning (Oct. 14). The stadium outing is slated to kick off on March 18 with the band’s first-ever show in Costa Rica, at the Estadio Nacional, before moving on to the Dominican Republic and Mexico and then touching down in Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California on April 23 for a U.S. run slated to last through a June 14 gig at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa.

H.E.R. is on board to support the majority of the dates, with London Grammar booked to open a July 10 show in Berlin and an Aug. 16 gig at Wembley Stadium in London. Tickets for the U.S. dates will go on sale to the general public on Oct. 22 at 10 a.m. local time here , with a release teasing that more dates will be announced soon.

Ed Sheeran Joins Coldplay to Perform 'Fix You' & 'Shape of You' at London Album Party

In an effort to make the tour as sustainable as possible, the band announced that all the shows will be powered by 100% renewable energy, with pledges to cut tour emissions by 50% from the group’s 2016-17 world tour and plant one tree for every ticket sold. According to a release, each venue will be equipped with solar installations and other renewable power sources including waste cooking oil and a kinetic stadium floor with kinetic bikes powered by fans that will store energy in the first-ever mobile, rechargeable show battery.

Coldplay are also encouraging fans to use low-carbon transport to and from shows through the official tour app, rewarding those who do with a discount at the venues, in addition to making sure that all merch is sustainably and ethically sourced. There will also be free drinking water and efforts made to eliminate plastic bottles at every venue; click here to see the full list of sustainability goals.

In a statement, the band said, “Playing live and finding connection with people is ultimately why we exist as a band. We’ve been planning this tour for years, and we’re super excited to play songs from across our whole time together.At the same time, we’re very conscious that the planet is facing a climate crisis. So we’ve spent the last two years consulting with environmental experts to make this tour as sustainable as possible, and, just as importantly, to harness the tour’s potential to push things forward. We won’t get everything right, but we’re committed to doing everything we can and sharing what we learn. It’s a work in progress and we’re really grateful for the help we’ve had so far. If you’d like to come to a show and sing with us, we’re so excited to see you.”

Just one day ahead of the release of their 9th studio album, Music of the Spheres , Coldplay have revealed dates for a massive 2022 stadium tour. The world tour will kick off in March with their first-ever performance in Costa Rica.

Wait, aren't Coldplay the band that were "on strike" from touring because how environmentally damaging (that carbon footprint!) it is? Well, yes, but with along with this tour itinerary comes a 12-point plan for making the production more sustainable.

The BBC reports that among the multi-point plan is a kinetic dancefloor that powers the venue and a tree planted for every ticket sold. Those tickets go on sale to the general public beginning 10/22 here .

2024 European dates ANNOUNCED

Following the sellout success of Coldplay’s 2023 European stadium shows, the band have today announced a third run of European dates for summer 2024, as part of their record-breaking Music Of The Spheres World Tour.

Fans could register for first access to tickets in the presale – which begins for all shows on Tuesday, July 25 – at Coldplay.com . The presale is now closed.

The presale will start on Tuesday at 9am local time in Athens, Bucharest, Budapest, Lyon, Rome and Helsinki, and at 10am local time in Dusseldorf, Munich, Vienna and Dublin. The general sale begins at 10am local time for all cities on Friday, July 28.

Glastonbury Festival organisers have finally unveiled their headliners for 2024 , after months of rumours and speculation.

Emily Eavis and her team announced on Thursday (14 March) that Dua Lipa , SZA and Coldplay would headline the Pyramid Stage at Worthy Farm in June, while country-pop queen Shania Twain will take the coveted Legends’ Slot.

While many ticketowners are expressing excitement about the forthcoming sold-out festival , there is an air of disappointment due to the fact that many rumoured high-profile musicians – including Madonna, Stevie Wonder and Bruce Springsteen – are absent from the line-up.

However, some of The Independent’s team believe that this is a premature reaction to what could be some of the greatest pop performances Glastonbury has ever seen.

BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend 2024: tickets, price, dates and lineup

Here's how you can catch Coldplay, Vampire Weekend, RAYE, and The Last Dinner Party in Luton

BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend is almost back to kick off the 2024 festival season . As announced by breakfast DJ, Greg James, this year the event is being held at Stockwood Park in Luton and is forecast to be ‘bigger than ever’. 

There are 100,000 tickets up for grabs but with stars like Coldplay,  RAYE and and Charli XCX taking to the stage, the demand is expected to be pretty fierce. General sale goes live this week, so we've got everything you need to know to secure your spot in the crowd. 

When is the BBC's Big Weekend?

This year's Big Weekend is happening from Friday, May 24 to Sunday, May 26. 

Where is the festival being held this year?

It is being held in Luton, a town in Bedfordshire that's an easy train ride from London. The festival will take over Stockwood Park, an 100 acre property with plenty of rolling green fields for revellers to party on. 

When do Radio 1’s Big Weekend tickets go on sale?

You'll be able to get your hands on tickets on Thursday, March 21 at 5pm .  As per Big Weekend tradition, priority is being given to locals.

This year, 40 percent of tickets are being reserved for anyone living in the postcodes LU1 to LU4 and 30 percent is being saved for people in the wider area. That  includes LU5 to LU7, Hemel Hempstead, Milton Keynes, Stevenage and St Albans. 

The rest will be unreserved and any left unsold will go on sale to the general public.

How much will tickets cost?

Tickets for each day will cost £29.50 plus a £4.50 booking fee. Y ou can only buy a maximum of two per person per day. 

Who has been confirmed for the 2024 lineup so far?

Friday headliners.

The first night of the festival will be headlined by Chase and Status, Becky Hill and Rudimental.

Saturday headliners

The festival's second night will be headlined by RAYE, The Last Dinner Party, Charli XCX.

Sunday headliners

The festival will come to a close with a performance by Coldplay on the main stage, following sets by Sabrina Carpenter, Olly Alexander and Vampire Weekend, while beabadoobee headlines the new music stage. 

Do you camp at BBC Big Weekend?

Nope, this is a tent-free festival. Each day will finish around 10pm so if you need accommodation – the BBC recommends looking at your options nearby.
