Small Group Gaucho Day Tour to an Argentinian Ranch

Quick Details

  • Hour Glass Duration: 9 Hours
  • Calendar Availability: Daily
  • Checkmark Tour Type: Small Group Public Tour

Explore the countryside of Buenos Aires and learn all about the gauchos and ranch life on the Pampas in an exciting full-day tour that includes visits to a historical rural town and silversmith museum, visits to a ranch, loads of food and wine, dancing, horseback-riding, gaucho horse skills display, and convenient pick-up and drop-off at your hotel/Airbnb/cruise port.

Tour the countryside and visit a typical Argentinian ranch:

In this exciting and fun-filled full-day tour our team of reliable and professional drivers and very passionate, informative, knowledgeable, and helpful tour guides with excellent English skills will take you in a small group of no more than 12 guests on an epic adventure into the world of the Gauchos (The men of the Pampas) and show you the beauties of Argentina’s countryside.

This tour is a good opportunity to get out of the city of Buenos Aires and into the Pampas (the vast flatlands of Argentina) to live a variety of unique experiences that complement what you can see and do in the capital city.

After hotels pick-up, you will leave Argentina’s largest city behind and dive into a completely different world on the way to San Antonio de Areco, a small town dating back to 1730 known as “the cradle of culture and tradition” in Argentina.

The drive out to the Pampas will go quickly as your tour guide will fill in details of life in Argentina and what to expect at the town and the ranch, bringing the landscape around to life with their live commentary providing history, geography, cultural facts, and information.

Once in Areco, you will get off the vehicle and visit the  Draghi museum  which is family-run and operated, featuring some of the best silversmiths in the world. This is the perfect place to learn about Latin American silverwork and get a deep understanding of the gaucho’s particular dress style and working tools.

After your visit, you will get back to the vehicle and head off to the ‘estancia’ (ranch), a beautiful and large property that operates as a farm focusing mainly on cattle-breeding and grain-growing.

Upon arrival at  El Ombú ranch , you will be greeted with joy by the gauchos and served with  welcome drinks  and some of the best  ’empanadas’  (local pasties) you will eat in the entire world.

You will also have time to try some laid-back completely suitable for beginners  horseback-riding  or wagon-riding guided by the gauchos ensuring each rider’s safety, or if you prefer spend this pre-lunch time wandering around the ranch, enjoying the beautiful scenery and taking pictures.

We strongly suggest you “come to this tour hungry” as for lunch you will be treated to a real  Argentinean meat feast  featuring the national dish:  asado . You will be served a wide variety of grilled beef cuts, sausages, and other local treats, altogether with chimichurri sauce, salads, bread, and  freely flowed wine  (if you are vegan/vegetarian no need to worry as they also offer meat-less and vegan alternatives).  Dessert does not fall behind featuring different options served along with a cup of coffee (very much needed to stay up and engaged after so much food).

The afternoon begins with a  display of singing and dancing  from folk who live in this region, very different from Tango (found in the city), and if you are confident enough you can also give it a try and learn a couple of dancing moves to impress your friends and family when going back home.

To wrap up such a wonderful and authentic Argentine experience, one of the gauchos will delight you with a demonstration of how he tames his horse and the confidence they have in each other in an unconventional  horse whispering   demonstration  that is guaranteed to keep you spellbound. Without a doubt, the highlight of this tour.

This tour was a lot of fun. There were a number of different activities to enjoy throughout the day and yet it felt like a laid-back outing with friends. The food at the Estancia was plentiful and delicious. Florencia, Augustine, and our driver Jorge were excellent hosts. We highly recommend this trip!

We did 4 tours over our trip to Santiago and Buenos Aires and this was hands down the best experience for our family of 10. First off we had Pablo as our tour guide for the full day and he was nothing short of fantastic. His knowledge of Argentina as a whole and his comfort with our family which included 4 kids under 15 was amazing. The horseback riding was perfect for our family as many had never done it before so it gave you a great taste of what it was like without major risks. The lunch was a true Argentinian meat-eating experience outside under the shade of the huge trees. All I will say is come hungry. Wonderful day and would recommend this to anyone touring Argentina for the first time.

A perfect day on the pampas! We thoroughly enjoyed this visit to a local ranch to ride, eat delicious barbecue, enjoy some wine, and watch the gauchos perform amazing tricks on horseback! A must-do afternoon for anyone visiting Buenos Aires.

What an amazing day. From we were picked up in the morning from our hotel by Julieta, from signature tours, until we got back to our hotel this evening, we felt we were in great hands. Julieta gave us lots of information about the city and about the surrounding area as we left Buenos Aires and headed out to the ranch. The rain didn't spoil our day at this wonderful working ranch. We went horseriding, had some wine and lots of food, and were entertained by the Gaucho cowboys. We laughed and danced into the afternoon... This is a must for anyone travelling to Buenos aires.

Don’t miss this informative and fun-filled day! My son and I just returned from the trip and I just can’t say enough about the entire experience. Signature Tours provided a comfortable and immaculate vehicle with a super knowledgeable guide named Enrique. Enrique did an excellent job providing history, geography, cultural facts, and information. The tour at Draghi was very interesting and we met the silversmith and his wife. At the beautiful ranch, the horseback riding was great fun (Option to ride in a horse and buggy for those not interested in riding), the food was AMAZING and the music and dance were special. Overall, I would have given this 10 stars if possible.

What people love about buenos aires tours.

We very much enjoyed our 4 Day Best of BA tour & the additional Gaucho Day at Don Silvano Ranch. We felt that we got a very good sampling of BA in the short amount of time we had to spend there. Our guides were excellent and we would recommend this tour to friends.
Just back home from South America, Santiago region in Chile and Buenos Aires in Argentina. Thanks to the very professional and warm services of our travel agent Bernard Bacle at Club Aventure Travel in Ottawa, Canada we tailored a made to measure trip to these two regions. Bernard Bacle arranged with a local partner Aborigen Tours to provide transfer and guide services all along our journey in Santiago (Chile) and region and Buenos Aires (Argentina). A huge part of the success of this trip was the use of guides to accompany my wife and I. Arriving in Santiago (SCL) we slept at the airport Holiday Inn. Then the following morning we were picked by a chauffeur Mario and guide Edmundo for two days to and from Valparaiso and Viña del Mar. Edmundo and Mario teamed up to give incredible service. They were so knowledgeable, warm, friendly, and completely at our service. The program they had in store for us was varied and included info on history, geography, social issues, culture, politics, and every subject we would find to discuss about. Back in Santiago we were taken on a ½ day tour and visited interesting venues. Then we transferred to Buenos Aires, Argentina where another guide Micaela and driver Rodrigo took us from the airport to our hotel. We had an unusual experience in the hotel since our room was broken into and the room safe was stolen; in fact it was put in my wife’s travel suitcase, meaning that not only did we loose an iPad and papers (that were placed in the safe) but also much of my wife’s clothing and accessories (ie camera spare battery and charger and more items). We contacted Micaela and she came to our rescue the very next day by accompanying us to two shopping malls to replace as much items as we could, since we were boarding a cruise ship on that day. When we came back to Buenos Aires at the end of the cruise, we had arranged with this same company to pick us at the cruise terminal and transfer us to the same hotel. It was then Gabriel the company owner that completed this task. Furthermore, he helped us negociate with the hotel to get them to refund all the belongings we had lost in this robbery. Finally, the hotel offered a good compensation and we continued shopping to replace every item once back home. We had another wonderful guided walking tour in Buenos Aires with Joëlle, very charming person and sooo knowledgeable and interesting. I can’t say enough about the total dedication to us by Aborigen Tours. Customer satisfaction is their number one priority and they, by far, exceeded all our expectations! Very professional, always on time, new and clean vehicles, very nice drivers and guides. Everything flowed smoothly! Excellent tour, services and attention from all the team Aborigen Tours. Thanks for making an amazing trip for us. We very warmly recommend both Bernard Bacle at Club Aventure Travel in Ottawa and Gabriel and his staff at Aborigen Tours in Argentina

Buenos Aires is a large and lively city with a unique 400+-year trajectory, an abundance of culture, art and endless activities to discover.

There are so many attractions in South America’s most European capital that it can be difficult for visitors to prioritize if they have a finite time frame to explore the city.

This is where a professional city, boat or bike or even food tour can help visitors get a handle on the highlights.

First Timer's Guide to Buenos Aires First Timer's Guide to Buenos Aires

Buenos Aires is often top-of-the-list for first-time travelers to Argentina. This metropolis is full of cultural touchstones—some classic, some quirky, and some thought-provoking. Here’s what to see and do to make the most of your first visit.

buenos aires tours viator

The 14-acre (5.5-hectare) Recoleta Cemetery holds thousands of mausoleums, many housing Argentine A-listers. Admire the macabre mishmash of designs and look for the final resting place of movie stars, presidents, artists, and the most famous resident of all—Eva Perón (aka Evita), the First Lady whose reign took on a life of its own after her death in 1952. Meanwhile, at the even larger Chacarita Cemetery, see the shrine-like tomb of singer, composer, actor, and tango legend Carlos Gardel.

Recoleta showcases a little of everything, art-wise, in the excellent National Museum of Fine Arts (Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes), whose collection spans centuries of international painting and sculpture, as well as pre-Hispanic and colonial art, and 20th-century art movements in Argentina. Highlights include works by Argentine and Latin American artists such as Prilidiano Pueyrredón and Diego Rivera, with European collections headlined by artists including Francisco Goya and Pablo Picasso.

Born in the brothels of Buenos Aires in the late 1800s, tango later went mainstream and remains a beloved tradition. For a grassroots experience of the art form, head to Parque Barrancas del Belgrano, in the Belgrano neighborhood, on Saturday or Sunday evenings around 7pm. Dancers run the gamut—old, young, skilled, novice, dressed to the nines, and decked out in sweatpants—but what they all have in common is an authentic love of tango.

Head for the Villa Crespo and Chacarita neighborhoods where young chefs have opened up restaurants and bars that are moving the rich culinary traditions of Buenos Aires forward. Highlights include the all-veg offerings at Chuí, Korean-inspired dishes at Na Num, a reimagining of the city’s beloved fugazzeta pizza at Bar Roma, and a hip and hand-crafted version of a classic vermouth bar at La Fuerza.

The Colón Theatre (Teatro Colón) is one of the world’s most spectacular opera houses, and the largest auditorium in South America. Guided tours of the French-influenced theater, which opened in 1857 and was rebuilt in 1908, offer insights into the architectural styles and fine acoustics of the building, as well as the long list of virtuosos who have performed there. For an extra peek behind the curtain, see a century of creations from the Colón Theatre’s workshop at the Colón Fábrica.

San Telmo is one of the oldest neighborhoods in Buenos Aires. Work up an appetite exploring the streets, peeking into historic bars, and admiring modern street art. Then head to the San Telmo Market where antique dealers rub shoulders with an ever-increasing range of eating options including some of the best empanadas in the city.

Palacio Barolo, a hulking, 22-story structure that was once the tallest building in Latin America, hides a literary twist. In the early 20th century, business tycoon Luis Barolo hired architect Mario Palanti to design it, seeking to bring Dante Alighieri’s poem "The Divine Comedy" to life in architectural form, with heaven, hell, and purgatory all represented. Completed in 1923, the elaborately adorned, domed interior is now full of offices, but guided tours reveal its weird and wonderful glory.

Although football (soccer) is big in this South American country, attending a game isn’t recommended for outsiders. However, polo can still be enjoyed by anyone. While the sport wasn’t invented in Argentina, the country has produced most of the top players and many of the best polo ponies in the world. Tucked amid high rise apartment buildings in the middle of Buenos Aires is the Campo Argentino de Polo where top players and top ponies face off during world-class matches.

Sorry, vegetarians. Buenos Aires loves beef, and nowhere is that more apparent than at the city’s myriad parrillas (steakhouses). Options range from globally recognized options such as Palermo’s Don Julio, where queues extend round the block on the daily, to places like El Pobre Luis in Belgrano. Whichever one you choose, be sure to accompany your parrillada (mixed grill) or steak with a classic Argentinean red wine.

In 1976, a violent military dictatorship took over Argentina. By the time the dictatorship ended in 1983, tens of thousands of people had been killed and many more abused. Hundreds of torture centers existed in the country, including a military base in Buenos Aires where an estimated 5,000 people were held. This base is now the Memory and Human Rights Space (Espacio Memoria y Derechos Humanos), which offers exhibits including videos of victim testimony during trials—some of which are ongoing.

"This morning we went on a city tour in Buenos Aires and our guide Marcela was excellent! She provided actual and historical data, quite interesting, a real Argentinean history class. We liked her nice and cordial attitude. We are quite happy to have chosen this tour. We will for sure recommend it to our friends and family...Thanks Marcela! Till next time!"

My cousin and I joined the tour to Puerto Macedonia to Tigre delta and San Isidoro. It was a lovely 5 and a half hour tour. The guide Marcela was very punctual, informative, attentive to everyone's needs and helpful. I would recommend this tour for anyone who wants to get away from Buenos Aires and see something different.

"I am so happy I took this tour. It is convenient, hassle-free and will give you al lot of information and feel about BA. Our guide Florencia was very knowledgeable and professional. Driver was courteous. Bus was clean, smells great and Florencia makes sure we are safe when we walk around the city and comfortable in and out of the bus. Wear comfy shoes as this tour is a drive around + walk tour combo. Highly recommended."

"We had just a couple of nights in Buenos Aires following a cruise. We wanted to make sure that we saw the key points of interest and this seemed an ideal way of doing it. The guide was knowledgeable and very helpful. During the excursion we had the opportunity of visiting a number of interesting sites including the cemetery, the final resting place of Eva Peron. I would recommend this trip."

Steps away from the Torre Monumental, the Park Tower, a Luxury Collection Hotel offers a glimpse into the refined beauty of Buenos Aires at its best, with centuries-old artwork and pottery sourced from France, England and China all gracing its spacious lobby. During a stay, guests are welcome to enjoy the hotel pool or make use of the fitness center, while the on-property St. Regis Restaurant is an essential dining destination thanks to its top-quality steak and stellar breakfast buffet.
