Hailing from Eskilstuna, Sweden, Kent is a Swedish indie-pop act that became one of the country's biggest bands of the 90s.

Kent were formed after singer/songwriter Joakim Berg met guitarist Sami Sirvo whilst at school, deciding to start a band alone with drummer Markus Mustonen, bassist Martin Skold and guitarist Martin Roos. After developing their sound and bonding as musicians, they signed to BMG Sweden and their sub-label RCA, releasing their debut single, "Nar Dert Blaser Pa Manen" in 1994. The single remained relatively unnoticed, with their eponymous debut album also released to little fanfare in April 1995. Kent embarked on extensive tours for the rest of the year in promotion of the album, with Roos leaving band after, being replaced by Harri Manty.

It was with their follow-up that Kent were to find success, with the lead single "Kram (Sa Nara Far Ingen Ga) becoming an instant hit, propelling their 1996 album "Verkligen" to wide acclaim and popularity. The album displayed a change in direction for the band, creating a melancholic sound in the same vein as Radiohead. The band went back on the road on a large tour except this time, the venues were sold out, with the success of their second record building a large fan base.

Bolstered by two hit singles in 1997, "Gravitation" and "Om Du Var Har," the band went from strength to strength with their third album, "Isola," which went straight to number one on the Swedish album chart. The video for "Gravitation" also won a Grammy Award for best video. The band also recorded an English-language version of "Isola," realised in England in 1998.

The band continued to make popular albums, with "Vapen & Ammunition" (2002) selling 500,000 copies in Scandinavia alone. Two further albums, "Du & Jag Döden" (2005) and "Tillbaka Till Samtiden" cemented Kent's position in the Swedish music scene, as one of the most popular indie-pop acts. As a whole, they have released eleven albums, winning 20 Swedish Grammy Awards in total.

Live reviews

I just got back from seeing Kent at a live concert and I have got to say, what a show! Kent is a Swedish Rock/Pop band that is well known throughout the world. Kent is a very unique band and they are another one of those genre mashing bands that really keeps things interesting and unique. The venue that Kent played at was pretty nice, there was plenty of room, adequate lighting and the sound equipment looked very good. Surprisingly, Kent didn’t come out wearing anything crazy which I kind of expected since their genres are kind of a blend. The center stage was filled with many decorations and props that really made the experience much better. The crowd was really receptive to whatever Kent had to say and play, everyone seemed very into the music. The crowd was swaying back and forth and it seemed like everyone was just having a good time rocking and rolling to the music. My overall experience was very fun and beneficial. I met many new people that I could easily call friends now and I just had a blast listening to Kent’s music. I could just feel the emotion and energy based of off Kent’s actions on the stage and I feel myself getting pumped to do something.

Report as inappropriate

There has never been much explanation Swedish pop/rock outfit Kent have taken their namesake from one of England's southern counties. Despite the confusing band name, one thing that is far from confusing is the bold synth pop inspired rock sounds that this quartet has created since their incarnation back in the mid 90s.

They have enjoyed huge amounts of radio play in their home country and the fact they have sold over three million albums has taken them around the globe numerous times. It would seem as though the band always had this level of success in mind as the four musicians seem totally comfortable on the huge stages and handle the even huger crowds with a refreshing ease. They keep everybody engaged and involved as they perform the very finest selection of their discography whilst displaying great musicianship and real talent in the translation from record to stage show. Kent truly are a credit to the Scandinavian rock scene.

Visuals were amazing but most of the tracks relied heavily on playback of the instruments even some of the vocals at times which made it hard to feel the presence of the band on stage.

Fun facts from our Moscow Metro Tours:

From the very first days of its existence, the Moscow Metro was the object of civil defense, used as a bomb shelter, and designed as a defense for a possible attack on the Soviet Union.

At a depth of 50 to 120 meters lies the second, the coded system of Metro-2 of Moscow subway, which is equipped with everything you need, from food storage to the nuclear button.

According to some sources, the total length of Metro-2 reaches over 150 kilometers.

The Museum was opened on Sportivnaya metro station on November 6, 1967. It features the most interesting models of trains and stations.

Coffee Ring

The first scheme of Moscow Metro looked like a bunch of separate lines. Listen to a myth about Joseph Stalin and the main brown line of Moscow Metro.

Zodiac Metro

According to some astrologers, each of the 12 stops of the Moscow Ring Line corresponds to a particular sign of the zodiac and divides the city into astrological sector.

Astrologers believe that being in a particular zadiac sector of Moscow for a long time, you attract certain energy and events into your life.

Paleontological finds

Red marble walls of some of the Metro stations hide in themselves petrified inhabitants of ancient seas. Try and find some!

  • Every day each car in  Moscow metro passes  more than 600 km, which is the distance from Moscow to St. Petersburg.

Moscow Metro

The Moscow Metro Tour is included in most guided tours’ itineraries. Opened in 1935, under Stalin’s regime, the metro was not only meant to solve transport problems, but also was hailed as “a people’s palace”. Every station you will see during your Moscow metro tour looks like a palace room. There are bright paintings, mosaics, stained glass, bronze statues… Our Moscow metro tour includes the most impressive stations best architects and designers worked at - Ploshchad Revolutsii, Mayakovskaya, Komsomolskaya, Kievskaya, Novoslobodskaya and some others.

What is the kremlin in russia?

The guide will not only help you navigate the metro, but will also provide you with fascinating background tales for the images you see and a history of each station.

And there some stories to be told during the Moscow metro tour! The deepest station - Park Pobedy - is 84 metres under the ground with the world longest escalator of 140 meters. Parts of the so-called Metro-2, a secret strategic system of underground tunnels, was used for its construction.

During the Second World War the metro itself became a strategic asset: it was turned into the city's biggest bomb-shelter and one of the stations even became a library. 217 children were born here in 1941-1942! The metro is the most effective means of transport in the capital.

There are almost 200 stations 196 at the moment and trains run every 90 seconds! The guide of your Moscow metro tour can explain to you how to buy tickets and find your way if you plan to get around by yourself.

The Morning

Trump’s financial squeeze.

How the former president’s legal troubles might affect his campaign.

A close-up image of Donald Trump.

By Maggie Haberman

Donald Trump has 10 days to come up with a $175 million bond in his New York civil fraud case. After that, he may be on the hook for the full penalty in the case: almost half a billion dollars.

Could this situation affect his presidential campaign? Yes, it could. I will explain how in today’s newsletter, by answering four questions from The Morning’s staff.

What are the basic details of this case?

The New York attorney general, Letitia James, sued Trump and the Trump Organization in 2022. She accused them of committing widespread fraud over a decade by inflating the values of properties, at times by as much as $2 billion a year.

The net effect, James said, was essentially that Trump was able to get loans and insurance policies at more favorable rates than he was otherwise entitled to. A judge agreed, and ordered Trump to pay $454 million — equivalent to the total of his ill-gotten gains, plus the interest he would have paid. Trump has insisted that since his lenders weren’t stiffed, there were no victims, and that he considers the judgment corrupt.

Yesterday, an appeals court said that the state would accept a far smaller bond — $175 million — while it considers whether to uphold the judge’s findings.

Trump tried, but failed, to come up with the $454 million bond before the appeals court stepped in on Monday. Does it seem likely that he will be able to get the smaller bond?

Trump told reporters on Monday in Manhattan that he would be able to post the bond. There’s no independent way to verify that he has enough cash, and if he decides to seek an outside company to provide the bond, he will still need to put up a large amount of cash and other investments as collateral to secure it, and in a short amount of time.

However, the amount is less than half what it was previously, so it will almost certainly be easier now. And some legal experts see the appeals court’s decision as evidence that the court may reduce the $454 million judgment set by Justice Arthur F. Engoron.

Trump’s legal problems are serious. So far, though, they don’t seem to have affected his 2024 campaign. He has become the presumptive nominee in a rout. Why might this case be different?

This case goes to the heart of his identity and public image in a way the criminal cases simply do not. The risk of having his bank accounts frozen — or even one of his properties seized — affects him psychologically, and immediately. This is part of why he was so emphatic that the reduced bond requirement was a victory.

Trump was in a different courtroom in New York yesterday, where a judge set an April 15 start date for Trump’s criminal trial on charges that he falsified business records to cover up hush money payments during the 2016 election. Even if he’s convicted in that case, though, it’s unlikely that he would be sent to prison before Election Day. What’s more, the question of how he ran his business, according to James’s telling, is likely to become a political cudgel for President Biden’s allies. For his part, Trump is painting it all as an overreach by his political opposition.

What should people watch for now?

The appeals court is probably going to take several months to consider the fraud ruling and Trump’s penalty, based on what they said Monday. If they uphold the decision, Trump would then have to hand over almost half a billion dollars. If not, he will describe it as a smack-down of an overzealous judge and attorney general.

Trump’s social media company, which runs Truth Social, closed a deal last week to become a publicly traded company , and it’s an open question whether he will try to use his stake from that deal to acquire a bond from another company.

For now, Trump’s reprieve in the civil fraud case is temporary.

More on Trump

The appeals court also halted other aspects of Justice Engoron’s judgment in Trump’s civil case, including ones that barred Trump and his sons from running companies in New York.

Trump plans to adapt his presidential campaign schedule to his Manhattan trial. He is expected to visit nearby states and conduct interviews from Trump Tower .

Trump’s social media company will begin publicly trading on the Nasdaq today under the stock symbol “DJT.”

“It’s the first time someone’s ever heard, ‘Good news, you only owe $175 million’”: Late-night hosts discussed Trump’s discounted payment.
