1-for-1 Hong Kong air tickets on sale at tour agencies from Saturday

SINGAPORE – If you had missed your chance at getting free air tickets to Hong Kong from Cathay Pacific’s earlier giveaway, you now have an opportunity to snag tickets from the airline on the cheap.

At least six local tour agencies are kicking off a “buy one, get one free” air ticket promotion to the special administrative region on Saturday. The promotion will run for a month, or until their allotment of tickets runs out.

More than 9,500 tickets in total – both paid and free – will be available for the Singapore market, Cathay Pacific told The Straits Times.

As with Cathay Pacific’s giveaway in early March, tickets in the upcoming promotion exclude costs such as airport taxes and travel insurance.

Participating tour agencies include SA Tours, Nam Ho Travel, Chan Brothers Travel, CTC Travel, EU Holidays and ASA Holidays.

Some tour agencies told ST they will each offer between 200 and 300 tickets for sale on a first-come, first-served basis. The tickets can be bundled with package tours.

Noting that “a lot” of people have been calling about the offer, Nam Ho Travel marketing director Mandy Ooi said: “With marketing campaigns by the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) and travel agents, the Hong Kong tourism industry will definitely pick up in numbers.”

All 12,500 free round-trip tickets to Hong Kong released by Cathay Pacific on March 2 were snapped up in Singapore within an hour, bringing a quick end to what was supposed to be a seven-day giveaway. Those hoping to get the tickets had faced hour-long waits at the start of the giveaway.

Chan Brothers Travel marketing communications executive Samantha Tan said: “Hong Kong had been a popular short-haul destination for Singaporeans before the pandemic. It has a modern cityscape, bustling markets, ancient temples, affordable street food, high-end restaurants, ease of getting around and the relative familiarity of it being an urban metropolis like Singapore.”

She added: “It is also a shopper’s paradise and there are two iconic theme parks, Hong Kong Disneyland and Ocean Park Hong Kong, which appeal to families with children.”

According to the HKTB, Hong Kong had an estimated visitor arrival of 1.462 million in February, which is triple of that in January.

This was the first time the figure has exceeded one million since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic in February 2020, and is about 30 per cent of monthly arrivals before the pandemic, according to HKTB.

The Ho Chi Minh City Ao Dai Festival 2024

The Ho Chi Minh City Ao Dai Festival is one of the city’s exemplary annual festivals, drawing significant attention from both local and international tourists. After a relentless 10-year dedication to inspiring the traditional values of Ao Dai, the festival has become a driving force in spreading pride in the “national soul, national essence” of Ho Chi Minh City citizens, acting as a conduit for showcasing the beauty, spirit, and heritage of the Vietnamese people to the world.

The 10th Ho Chi Minh City Ao Dai Festival (March 7th – March 17th, 2024) witnessed significant investment and thrilling innovations in its program. With the companion of 24 image ambassadors and the participation of 30 distinguished Ao Dai designers, the festival showcased the special Co-Performance “I love Vietnamese Ao Dai.” This standout activity brought together over 5,000 women members from Thu Duc City and 21 districts, along with festival ambassadors, artists, actors, and city residents.

Additionally, the “Charming Ao Dai Ho Chi Minh City” contest attracted over 800 participants; the Ao Dai painting contest received registrations from over 400 students; the logo design contest honoring the 10 years of the Ho Chi Minh City Ao Dai Festival welcomed over 250 admissions. More than 1,500 images were submitted to the online Ao Dai contest “Ao Dai and 100 exciting things about Ho Chi Minh City”.

Over the past decade, the organization of the Ho Chi Minh City Ao Dai Festival has been a constant journey of spreading beautiful images and igniting love, pride, and responsibility in preserving and promoting the national cultural heritage. In honor of this proud journey, the Vietnam Record Organization (VietKings) officially recognized and awarded a record to the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee with the content “The Ho Chi Minh City Ao Dai Festival – A festival dedicated to honoring and showcasing Vietnamese Ao Dai, held annually and consecutively (10 times from 2014 to 2024).”

Business meeting between việt nam and hong kong (china) can open up numerous opportunities.

HCM CITY — Việt Nam and Hong Kong (China) have great potential to promote cooperation in fields from finance to technology, food, and consumer goods, heard a business meeting held in HCM City on March 19 by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Singapore and Invest Hong Kong.

Attending the event, Vice President of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) Vo Tan Thanh said that Hong Kong (China) is among Việt Nam's 10 largest trading partners with bilateral trade estimated at US$11.24 billion in 2023. Hong Kong's investment in Việt Nam last year reached $4.68 billion, ranking third among more than 100 countries and territories investing in Việt Nam.

Meanwhile, Việt Nam is the 2nd largest trading partner of Hong Kong (China) among ASEAN countries and the 7th largest trading partner of Hong Kong globally.

According to Thanh, Hong Kong has advantages in being a gateway connecting investment, trade, finance, and logistics between China and the region and the world, which is an important basis for promoting economic relations between Việt Nam and Hong Kong as well as between the ASEAN region and East Asian economies and the world.

Owin Fung, Director of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Singapore, said that Hong Kong (China) is one of the reliable partners when Vietnamese businesses want to expand their business abroad. He stressed that Hong Kong not only provides a stable business environment but also helps Vietnamese businesses expand connections with other markets in mainland China.

Noting that Ho Chi Minh City is planning to build a regional financial centre, Fung said as one of the world's major financial centre, Hong Kong is willing to share experiences with the city in this realm.

Talking about the business environment in Hong Kong, Director-General of Invest Hong Kong (InvestHK) Alpha Lau said that Hong Kong has a strategic position in connecting the region to the world. It also has special advantages including a hub of finance, transportation, and international trade.

She suggested that the fashion industry, food and beverage, agricultural products, and consumer goods are among areas with good growth potential where businesses from both sides can cooperate in doing business in Hong Kong. — VNS
