CRUISES FROM FLORIDA

MEET THE FUNSHINE STATE

BASK IN THE FUN ON FLORIDA CRUISES

People all around the world know Florida because there are few places that do “fun and sun” with quite the flair that this place does. And for all its deserved fame as a vacation destination, the Sunshine State is equally skilled at launching great vacations to other places. So imagine leaving from Florida and cruising to convenient, nearby locations like the Caribbean, The Bahamas… while we’re on the subject, you can even cruise to Mexico from Florida! See what we’re getting at? But if you’re cruising from Florida, 2024 or beyond, make sure to set aside some time to explore what’s good on land.

  • Jacksonville

Port Canaveral

Cruise from spots across florida.

With some of the best cruises from Florida, The Magic City is definitely a top homeport pick! But it’s more than Miami’s proximity to the Caribbean and Bahamas — this is simply a unique destination all its own. There are so many sides to Miami, and you can spend time exploring the city’s varied neighborhoods before or after you cruise. There’s party-ready South Beach, Coral Gables with its Mediterranean style, the spicy Little Havana, and even world-renowned Wynwood — center of street art.

What does it mean to be in the center of everything? When it comes to exploring Florida fun before or after a cruise, if you’re thinking Port Canaveral… you’re right on the mark! For starters, your cruise kicks off on the state’s iconic Space Coast, home to Kennedy Space Center and within reach of the Orlando area’s fun-packed theme parks. This all makes this a great place to launch yours! But Port Canaveral has natural thrills too: an entire coastline of sugary-sand beaches and protected islands for native wildlife.

Tampa’s the kind of place that rewards visitors who take a little time to explore the city before or after they cruise. Try it and you’ll see! Not far from the Gulf Coast you’ll find great shopping, the state aquarium and plenty of local art museums. But that’s before we even get around to talking about the historically Cuban district of Ybor City, with its lively 7th Avenue neighborhood that’s best explored after sundown for Latin-style nightlife.

JACKSONVILLE

Jacksonville is said to be the best of both worlds, with beachfront and urban vistas to explore. But make sure to add a third kind of scenery — a Carnival cruise — to your visit! Before or after you cruise you can enjoy the dining and shopping energy of Jacksonville’s downtown, but know that nature is nearby with the Southbank Riverwalk of the St. Johns River. And if you want to go full-on nature, you’ve got wildlife parks galore and miles of sandy beaches.

Best cruises from Florida: Our top 9 trips from the Sunshine State

Megan duBois

Cruises from Florida are the most popular options for travelers who wish to sail from the United States. It was only this year that Miami was dethroned as the busiest cruise port in the world — replaced by rival Florida home port, Port Canaveral.

Not only do cruises from Florida allow you to see some of the most beautiful islands in the Caribbean and Bahamas, but they also allow travelers to experience some of the biggest and best cruise ships sailing right now. The largest cruise ship afloat, Royal Caribbean 's Wonder of the Seas, sails from Port Canaveral; family-friendly rival Disney Wish, the newest Disney cruise ship in a decade, also home ports in Florida.

For more cruise news, reviews and tips, sign up for TPG's cruise newsletter .

Families planning multigenerational getaways, couples seeking child-free vacations and groups of friends looking to have a good time can all find their perfect ship and itinerary departing from one of Florida's six departure ports.

To give you a taste of the diversity of options available from the Sunshine State, here are our picks for the best cruises from Florida.

Wonder of the Seas to the Western Caribbean

world cruises leaving from florida

Wonder of the Seas , Royal Caribbean's flagship and the largest cruise ship in the world, departs weekly from Port Canaveral (the cruise port closest to Orlando). The ship sails seven-night Western Caribbean itineraries, stopping at tropical destinations like Cozumel and Costa Maya, Mexico; Roatan, Honduras; and the cruise line's private island in the Bahamas, Perfect Day at CocoCay .

While the islands offer plenty of fun in the sun, the ship itself is filled with tons of family-friendly activities. Siblings or parents and kids can race each other to the bottom of the twin waterslides, named Typhoon and Cyclone. If you prefer to stay dry, hop into the Ultimate Abyss tunnel slide, where riders will glide down 10 stories of darkness before bottoming out on the ship's Boardwalk.

Kids ages 6 months to 17 years old have their own hangouts with dedicated programming supervised by fun counselors. While the kids play with new friends, adults can veg out in the glass-encased Solarium, relaxing on padded loungers or in a bubbling hot tub.

When it's time to come together for a meal, you'll please all palates at The Mason Jar , one of Royal Caribbean's newest restaurants that highlights Southern comfort food. The menu teems with tasty dishes like fried chicken, gumbo and po'boys that will leave you completely satisfied. Brunch here comes with a side of live country music.

Freedom of the Seas to the Bahamas

world cruises leaving from florida

Cruisers who are loyal to Royal Caribbean or those who want to test the waters with the brand without the commitment of a seven-night sailing can enjoy short, three-night sailings on Freedom of the Seas out of Miami.

The quickie voyages take you to Nassau and Perfect Day at CocoCay, and a day spent on Royal Caribbean's stunning island is reason enough to book this cruise. At this private Bahamian beach resort, cruisers can ride the slides at Thrill Water Park, rent a beachside cabana for a mix of shade and sun, or float about in a sheltered lagoon. A barbecue lunch is included, and passengers can utilize their onboard drink package.

The 4,635-passenger ship provides fun around every corner. Challenge one another to a round of minigolf, show off your skills on the FlowRider surf simulator or test your muscle on the rock climbing wall. Entertainment on Freedom of the Seas ranges from Royal Caribbean's iconic ice skating shows to live music in the pub. Pool parties, outdoor movies and laser tag are also included with your cruise fare.

With so much to do on board, plus the short sailing times, cruises on this ship can have a distinct party vibe. There's a reason that the College Party Cruise charter company uses Freedom of the Seas for its March spring break sailings.

No cruise is complete without great food, and this ship offers 11 different dining venues highlighting such cuisines as Italian, Mexican and Japanese.

Carnival Elation to the Bahamas

world cruises leaving from florida

Carnival Elation is unique because it's the only ship from any cruise line that sails from Jacksonville. Its four- and five-day sailings to the Bahamas stop at Nassau and a second destination that varies. Choose from cruises to Bimini, Freeport, Half Moon Cay or Princess Cays — the latter two are private beaches operated by the Carnival Corporation.

The 2,606-passenger cruise ship is one of Carnival Cruise Line 's smallest and oldest ships. Aboard the intimate vessel allows you to get to know the crew and other cruisers. Popular hangouts include Carnival's beloved Alchemy Bar, where you can order cocktails at a vintage pharmacy-themed bar.

For outdoor dining, head to Guy's Burger Joint, created by celebrity chef Guy Fieri. Order a loaded burger and perfectly golden-brown fries, then head to the Lido Deck near the pool for great people-watching.

Entertainment on this small ship is still plentiful. Cruisers can splash around at WaterWorks, the family-friendly water playground, or head up to the adults-only Serenity Retreat for a quieter experience. The Punchliner Comedy Club hosts a variety of comedians that will have kids and adults laughing throughout the night. Catch a live production in the main theater or sing along with the pianist at the popular Piano Bar.

Carnival Mardi Gras to the Eastern Caribbean

world cruises leaving from florida

If you'd prefer to sample one of Carnival's newest and largest ships, you can sail from Port Canaveral on the line's Mardi Gras . Its Eastern Caribbean sailings visit island destinations like St. Thomas, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic and Grand Turk. Mardi Gras' six- to eight-night itineraries provide a good mix of sea days at the start and end of the sailings.

The impressive ship is known for its party atmosphere, which is highlighted by an onboard zone themed to New Orleans' French Quarter. Here, passengers will find Emeril's Bistro 1396, an homage to NOLA's cuisine developed in partnership with celebrity chef Emeril Lagasse. Don't miss the Brass Magnolia and the Fortune Teller bars, which start hopping when the sun goes down.

The Ultimate Playground on the ship's top deck is where adrenaline junkies and sports lovers will want to hang out. You'll get all the thrills with a ride on BOLT, the first roller coaster at sea, or take a lap around the elevated ropes course. If you prefer to keep your feet on the ground, minigolf and a full-size basketball court await.

Disney Magic to the Bahamas

world cruises leaving from florida

When the summer of 2024 rolls around, Disney Magic will set sail from Disney Cruise Line 's newest home port in Florida, Fort Lauderdale. The ship's shorter three- and four-night Bahamian itineraries include a visit to Nassau and either Castaway Cay, Disney's stunning private island, or Lighthouse Point, Disney's newest island destination . Longer five-night sailings include a stop at both private beaches or a double dip at Castaway Cay, along with a day at Nassau.

Disney Magic is among Disney's smaller ships, but fans love it for its intimate size and fewer crowds. Beloved Disney characters like Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse welcome you aboard with hugs and photo ops throughout your sailing.

Guests rotate each night among the ship's three dining rooms, including Rapunzel's Royal Table — inspired by Disney's animated "Tangled." There's also Animator's Palate, an homage to Disney's animation studios. You'll have the same servers at all restaurants, so they get to know your family and your dining preferences. At night the Walt Disney Theater features Broadway-caliber shows, like "Tangled: The Musical."

Families looking for some time apart will love that Disney has an included kids club where younger cruisers can enjoy fun activities under the watchful eye of the ship's youth staff. The Oceaneer Club features themed areas like Andy's Room from "Toy Story" and Tinkerbell's home at Pixie Hollow. Kids can also take superhero lessons from Thor. The Oceaneer Lab offers baking classes inspired by "Ratatouille" and sessions where kids learn how to draw their favorite Disney characters.

Adults can use their free time to savor a meal at the adults-only Italian restaurant, Palo, or kick back in the ship's multiple bars and live music venues.

Prefer to sail on a newer Disney ship? Check out Disney Wish , with three- and four-night sailings from Port Canaveral to Castaway Cay and Nassau.

Holland America's Rotterdam to the Southern Caribbean

world cruises leaving from florida

Holland America is known for its elegant ships and longer itineraries, such as Rotterdam 's nine- to 16-night Southern Caribbean options out of Fort Lauderdale. The newest ship in the fleet, Rotterdam sails to Curacao, Bonaire, Aruba and Half Moon Cay on nine-night voyages, while its longer 16-day sailings add on Grand Turk, the Dominican Republic, and Key West.

With just 2,668 guests onboard, Rotterdam is homey and charming with a touch of luxury. The ship doubles down on live music; a live band plays all the rock hits at the Rolling Stone Rock Room, while an eight-piece band gets everyone on their feet when they play R&B favorites at B.B. King's Blues Club. For some daytime activity, the competition is on at the ship's pickleball courts , where cruisers can take lessons or play in tournaments against their shipmates.

Expect impeccable dining at specialty restaurants like Rudi's Sel de Mer, a French-inspired restaurant from Holland America's master chef Rudi Sodamin; Canaletto, an Italian bistro offering all of the classics; and Tamarind, where diners can sample regional dishes from China, Japan and Southeast Asia. For daytime snacks, don't miss the Dutch pancake bites called poffertjes or the French fries with peanut dipping sauce.

Norwegian Encore to the Eastern Caribbean

world cruises leaving from florida

If you're looking for a weeklong cruise out of Miami, consider sailing on Norwegian Encore to the Dominican Republic, St. Thomas and Tortola. Each island offers spectacular sandy beaches that give way to sparkling blue waters, plus options for water sports, museum visits and hikes to the top of lush mountaintops.

The itinerary also includes a stop at Norwegian Cruise Line 's private island, Great Stirrup Cay. There you can enjoy a relaxing beach day, where all you have to worry about is getting back to the ship on time from the tender dock.

On board the ship, zip around the Encore Speedway in a go-kart, play laser tag in an Atlantis-themed arena, splash around the AquaPark or experience virtual reality games inside the Galaxy Pavilion. For a calmer diversion, purchase a pass to the Vibe Beach Club, an adults-only retreat with lounge chairs, umbrellas and specialty food and drinks. The pass is good for the entire cruise, so you can come and go as you please.

There's a wide range of dining options, including complimentary and extra-charge restaurants. Belly up to the Local Bar and Grill for classic pub dishes and cocktails on tap. If you're willing to pay extra for a meal, Q Texas Smokehouse is worth a stop. The a la carte restaurant serves authentic Texas-style barbecue and all the classic sides. After dinner service, the restaurant turns into a country dance club with a live band and an open dance floor.

Celebrity Apex to the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico

world cruises leaving from florida

Celebrity Cruises' Celebrity Apex sets sail from Fort Lauderdale to some of the most picturesque islands in the Caribbean. From November 2023 through April 2024, Apex will offer weeklong sailings to Puerto Rico, St. Maarten, St. Thomas and the Dominican Republic. Two sea days give you time to relax and have fun on the ship.

What makes this itinerary special is that it features later all-aboard times in San Juan and St. Maarten, allowing guests to see the islands as they come alive in the sunset glow.

Celebrity Apex is part of Celebrity Cruises ' Edge class of ships, with standout features like high-end design and modern touches. One of Apex's highlights is the Magic Carpet, a suspended lounge that hangs off the side of the ship. When it's positioned by the pool deck, you can stop in to sip cocktails; when it's at water level, it serves as a platform for easy boarding of tender boats.

There are lots of chic spots to chill with your travel companions. Savor some kebabs or a flatbread pizza among live plants in the ship's Rooftop Garden, then watch the sun sink into the sea at the aptly named Sunset Bar. Submerge yourself in a martini-shaped hot tub out on the pool deck or enjoy a dip on a rainy day in the covered adults-only Solarium.

With 29 different food and beverage options on Apex, cruisers will never be bored at meal times. Specialty dining includes Le Grand Bistro, themed after a traditional Parisian boulangerie-patisserie, and the Eden Restaurant, with its tasting menu of international dishes.

If you don't want to spend extra money on food, stick with the ship's four themed main dining rooms and the Mast Grill, which serves juicy burgers and hearty salads. The Oceanview Cafe serves made-to-order breakfast and lunch offerings, while dinner features a rotating menu with international flair.

8 Top World Cruises

Dream big and set sail on the monthslong trip of a lifetime.

Top world cruises of 2023

Getty Images

Sailing for months on a luxurious cruise ship is an exciting way to travel the world.

If your ideal vacation involves spending months sailing around the world – exploring storied, faraway lands and learning the mysteries of ancient civilizations and cultures – then you should consider booking a world cruise. These epic voyages transport guests around the globe to some of the world's top historical and cultural attractions. You'll sample locally inspired cuisines from Asia, Europe and other diverse regions, plus enjoy special events on the ship and in port, including expert guest lectures, cultural programs and memorable themed nights. And best of all: You'll only have to pack and unpack once. Read on to learn why a world cruise may check all the boxes for your dream getaway – and get started on planning your next vacation.

When do world cruises depart, and how long do they last?

World cruises typically begin in January and end in April or May, but some lines, like Viking Ocean Cruises , offer voyages that embark in December. Therefore, full itineraries often last anywhere from around 100 to 150 days, though Royal Caribbean International recently launched the world's longest world cruise at 274 days. If you're not able to set sail for three to five months (or longer), some cruise providers also offer select, shorter segments of their full world cruise itineraries.

Are world cruises in high demand?

Before setting your sights on a particular itinerary, you should know that world cruises are very popular and usually sell out quickly. Post-COVID-19 shutdown, there's been even more pent-up demand for these cruises in the 2022 and 2023 cruising seasons. In fact, many 2022, 2023 and even 2024 world cruises sold out within an unprecedented amount of time this year. Oceania Cruises ' 2024 voyage sold out within 30 minutes of the line announcing the itinerary, and its 2023 cruise was completely booked within one week. Similarly, Viking's world voyages are sold out until the line's 138-day sailing on Dec. 20, 2023.

With so many world cruises booking up in record time, you may wonder what other options are available for travelers seeking a lengthy voyage. Howard Sherman, president and CEO of Oceania Cruises, advises, "In 2024, we are providing guests more extended voyage options to deeply and meaningfully rediscover the world." He adds, "While a globe-circling journey is the pinnacle of life-changing travel experiences, we have specially curated a set of Grand Voyages for seasoned and time-rich travelers to navigate storied seas, straits and oceans that boldly connect diverse and exotic corners of the globe." The line's grand voyages range from 72 to 82 days long.

Torstein Hagan, chairman of Viking, has this to say about Viking's world cruises: "We are delighted to once again offer explorers the opportunity to circumnavigate the world in comfort. Our previous world cruises sold out in a matter of weeks, and we are now seeing more interest in these extended voyages than ever before. Like me, our guests are curious people; we view travel as an opportunity to discover, learn and grow. With that Viking spirit of exploration, our seamless world cruises are possibly the greatest of all adventures."

President of Azamara , Carol Cabezas, agrees that travelers are excited and ready to set sail on a world cruise. She states, "Azamara is thrilled to offer its new World Voyage launching in 2024. As self-described curious travelers, our guests are eager to explore destinations further and make meaningful connections to each destinations' culture and people, spending more time in a given port." Cabezas adds, "Departing from our backyard in Fort Lauderdale , this once-in-a-lifetime World Voyage will take our curious guests to over 40 countries across six continents, giving them the time and opportunity to making these connections and explore the hidden gems and mystical wonders of the world, including the Great Wall of China , Great Pyramids of Giza , Chichén Itzá , Taj Mahal and more."

Anne Scully, a partner at Embark Beyond, a luxury travel agency in New York City, says, "World cruises are always sought after as clients make lifelong friends and travel year after year together. World cruises are the ultimate dream trip, especially for great celebrations such as retirements, special anniversaries and getting out of the cold for the winter!" She notes that some lines' upcoming world cruises may highlight new and unique events. For example, Silversea Cruises ' 2024 world voyage offers an overnight visit to the Buddhist and Hindu temples in Borobudur, Indonesia, two of the country's nine UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

How does pricing work on a world cruise?

When planning a world cruise, it's important to note that fares can vary significantly between cruise lines. Some lines advertise cruise-only fares, which do not include meals at specialty restaurants, alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages, excursions, some entertainment or other expenses. On top of that, many cruise lines' base prices exclude port fees and taxes. Given the length of a world cruise, even small expenses can add up after several months on the ship and in ports around the globe. Typically, travelers can expect to spend a base fare of between $15,000 and $95,000 for their world cruise.

Regent Seven Seas Cruises ' all-inclusive fares include almost everything you could need, including door-to-door luggage service, first- and business-class airfare, pre-cruise gala events, unlimited dry cleaning and laundry, prepaid gratuities, meals, open bars and lounges, unlimited Wi-Fi access and more. Other lines may use a mostly all-inclusive payment plan and include additional perks, like Viking's Silver Spirits beverage package. Still, others – like MSC Cruises – may include wine and beer at dinner, but charge extra for select beverages, some excursions and other items throughout the voyage.

Picking your world cruise

To help you choose which world cruise is right for you, U.S. News has compiled a list of some of the best sailings that are still available to book for 2023. Keep in mind, if you're interested in a world cruise that is fully booked, you shouldn't lose hope. Scully advises that there are usually cancellations when trips are booked this far in advance, and you may be able to get on a waitlist through a travel adviser or by contacting the cruise line directly. Otherwise, if you're ready to book your tickets and set sail on the trip of a lifetime, consider one of these eight upcoming world voyages.

This 132-day World Cruise Will Circle the Planet in 2026 — and Visit All 7 Continents

The itinerary is Holland America's most ambitious to date.

world cruises leaving from florida

Courtesy of Holland America Line

For those looking to visit all seven of the world's continents, you'll soon be able to check off all those boxes with a single trip. Holland America just announced a 2026 Grand World Voyage that visits each one over 132 days in a true circumnavigation of the planet.

Sailing round-trip from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, the 1,432-passenger Volendam, the voyage will depart on Jan. 4, 2026, sailing south along the east coast of South America, all the way to Antarctica. (It's important to note that the Antarctica portion of the trip will be scenic cruising only — you won't be able to get off the ship and set foot on land.)

From Antarctica, the Volendam will cross the South Pacific (and stop at Easter Island!), visit Australia, and continue to Southeast Asia.

Next up is a journey across the Indian Ocean with visits to the Maldives and Sri Lanka, followed by a transit of the Suez Canal. After a few stops in the Mediterranean, the ship will make for Northern Europe, then finish with a transatlantic crossing to take guests back to Fort Lauderdale.

Stanislav/Adobe Stock/Courtesy of Holland America Line

All in, the Grand World Voyage will visit 47 ports in 39 countries, and there will be nine overnight calls in destinations like Rio de Janeiro and Bali.

"We asked thousands of past guests and travel advisors for their opinions about the perfect Grand World Voyage, so this may be one of our most thoroughly researched routes ever for a world cruise," Gus Antorcha, Holland America's president, said during the announcement, which took place aboard the Zuiderdam, which is currently sailing the 2024 Grand World Voyage. "This itinerary includes destinations we know guests love, packed with memorable moments and overnight stays. We are purposefully visiting fewer ports to allow more time to explore the destinations we visit and to create a voyage that does not feel rushed."

Though the voyage isn't yet open for bookings, you can register your interest through your travel advisor or by calling Holland America World Cruise Reservations at 1-800-522-3399. For context, the 124-day Grand World Voyage in 2025 starts at $24,999 per cabin based on double occupancy.

Holland America wants travelers to live on a cruise ship for 4 ½ months while it sails to 39 countries on all 7 continents — see what it'll be like

  • Holland America Line announced a 2026 around-the-world cruise .
  • The 132-day itinerary includes 47 ports in 39 countries on all seven continents.
  • Longer sailings like this one are all the rage right now.

Insider Today

In 2026, the only flight you'll have to take to visit 39 countries in less than half a year is the one from your home to Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

The catch? From there, you can travel around the world on a 25-year-old ship.

If the concept sounds familiar, it's probably because you're thinking of Royal Caribbean's nine-month Ultimate World Cruise , one of TikTok's first obsessions in 2024.

Royal Caribbean's around-the-world sailing isn't a one-off. Quite the opposite: It's part of a growing interest in longer cruises.

And companies like Holland America have taken note of this shift. To satisfy travelers' appetite for extended sailings, the cruise line released a slate of itineraries ranging from 25 to 59 days long this time last year. Most are set to sail roundtrip, to, or from North America.

But none of these one to two-month cruises compare to the cruise line's new 2026 "Grand World Voyage," a whopping 4 ½-month journey to all seven continents.

world cruises leaving from florida

Holland America says its 1,432-guest Volendam ship will set sail in January 2026 on an "east-to-west route" from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to 47 ports in 39 countries on all seven continents.

From sunny Florida, the ship will sail down to chilly Antarctica by way of eastern South America.

Volendam is scheduled to spend four days around Antarctica. Good luck on the infamous Drake Passage .

The icy destination isn't common on most around-the-world itineraries. But the cruise line seems partial to it: Holland America's 133-day "pole-to-pole" cruise , sailing to Antarctica and the Arctic Circle, is scheduled for January 2025.

From the itinerary's southernmost destination, the ship is set to venture back north to the South Pacific Islands like Easter Island, New Zealand, and Australia.

Then, it will set sail to Southeast and South Asia, the Maldives, and Egypt before its final few stops around northern Europe.

With the exception of two ports in Egypt, the Middle East and Africa have been largely left off the 132-day plan.

Almost 4 ½ months and 39 countries later, the journey will conclude back in Fort Lauderdale.

It's a long itinerary for a compact ship: The 781-foot-long Volendam is one of Holland America's smallest and oldest vessels.

Compared to this older counterpart, Holland America's newest ship, the Rotterdam, is almost 200 feet longer and can accommodate 1,236 more guests. However, the cruise line tapped a ship of Volendam's size to give guests a more "intimate experience."

Holland America's vessel of choice is larger than the ones being used by more luxurious companies Regent Seven Seas, Oceania, and Silversea's 2024 world cruises, which all have guest capacities of less than 700 people.

But the Volendam is still significantly smaller than Royal Caribbean's Ultimate World Cruise vessel of choice: The 965-foot-long, 2,476-guest Serenade of the Seas .

And unlike Royal Caribbean's new mega-ships , the Volendam has no waterslides or wild rides. Instead, the 10-deck vessel features six restaurants (including a café), five bars, two pools, and activities like pickleball courts.

Compared to other global itineraries, Holland America’s 47-port world cruise might seem light.

Ultra-luxury Regent Seven Seas and Silversea's ongoing 4 ½-month world cruises each include at least 65 ports.

But busier doesn't always mean better.

Guests will have more time to spend at the scheduled ports by sacrificing additional destinations, Gus Antorcha, Holland America's president, said in a news release. (The ship is scheduled for overnights at nine popular destinations, including Bali, Indonesia, and Papeete, Tahiti.)

A spokesperson for Holland America told Business Insider that details about the itinerary's fares aren't available yet.

Discover why PortMiami is the cruise capital of the world.

Virgin voyages is bringing the flair to the port of miami, florida.

Miami is to cruising what Nashville is to hot chicken, or what Vegas is to hazily epic nights. Known as the cruising capital of the world, PortMiami is a true crossroads of civilization when it comes to cruise ships traveling all around the world — from Caribbean voyages to transatlantic journeys. While no Sailor is starved for choice at PortMiami — dozens of cruise lines use it as their homeport — our adult only cruises from Terminal V are adding some much needed spice to the world’s cruising capital. Whether you’re embarking on a transatlantic odyssey to Europe or setting sail for warm Caribbean waters, there are as many reasons to cruise from the Port of Miami, Florida as, well… the number of white sand beaches in the Caribbean.

Miami and our other homeports around the world

Our cruise ships are the heartbeat of Virgin Voyages, and Scarlet Lady, the very first ship in our fleet, was the one that got it all started. Hopping all around the Caribbean from the homeport of Miami, there are dozens of Scarlet Lady cruises leaving from Miami to a range of tropical destinations, from Key West to Roatán in Honduras, and even Virgin Voyages’ own Beach Club at Bimini . While Scarlet Lady prefers the Caribbean climate, for an international jaunt to Europe, Valiant Lady is your girl. Sailing from Barcelona, Valiant Lady cruises the Mediterranean from St. Tropez to Málaga and Madeira. Travelers “down under,” however, should get acquainted with Resilient Lady, our newest ship that’s dedicated to sailing the waters of Australia, New Zealand , and Southeast Asia. Oh, and its homeport is Piraeus (Athens), so you can still get a dose of Mediterranean sunshine.

The best (and only) adult-only cruises from PortMiami

When you decide you want an adult-only cruise departing from Miami, you can skip the endless hours of research. There might be dozens of cruise lines coming and going from Port Miami, but Virgin Voyages stands alone as the only adult-only cruise line. You’ll notice it the moment you step into Terminal V — a feeling of elevated luxury, and the palpable sense of quiet excitement that comes from knowing you’re about to get away from your kids for a whole week. Don’t get us wrong, kids are great and all, but so are our design-forward eateries, sophisticated bars and restaurants designed for adult tastes, entertainment that isn’t exactly kid friendly, and a pool deck that doesn’t feel like an out-of-control daycare. Your kids will be there when you get home, but in the meantime, indulge your more sophisticated culinary tastes and savor the peace and quiet (or a rowdy night out).

Let Miami be the launchpoint for your next celebration

The great thing about an all-included luxury cruise is that there truly is something for everyone onboard. And that isn’t just good news for picky eaters and people with discerning taste, it’s good news for anyone looking to celebrate an occasion, and trying to figure out the best way to do it. Whether it’s a bachelorette party, milestone birthday, family reunion, or a romantic anniversary, going on a cruise is like choosing your own adventure novel that you can tailor to fit your special occasion. Ringing in an important birthday? Toast with some fine wine at our Extra Virgin Italian restaurant. Sending your friend off into married life? Dance the night away at The Manor, our onboard nightclub. Just looking for a solo getaway weekend? Relax on a white sand beach sipping a rum punch, and finally read that book you've been meaning to finish. It doesn’t matter what you’re celebrating. It all starts at Terminal V.

But Miami isn’t just a port…

You’d be doing yourself a disservice if you got right off the airplane and transferred straight to the cruise ship. Miami is the world’s busiest cruising hub for a reason — it’s a desirable vacation destination in its own right, a little microcosm of the Caribbean itself, with a vibrant nightlife, culinary, cultural, and art scene. From the famous Wynwood Miami Art District to Downtown and Ocean Drive, the rooftop bars and Michelin-star restaurants in Brickell, and of course, South Beach’s nightclubs and Art Deco hotels, Miami isn’t just a start and endpoint for your vacation. Add a couple days and explore the shore here before embarking on your voyage. And when you book your flight and hotel packages through us, it’s super convenient to find the best area hotels and get the most convenient flights.

Let’s make a deal: the best cruise deals from Florida

Who doesn’t love a good deal? No matter what we’re buying — from lift tickets on a ski vacation to cruise tickets on a tropical getaway — we want to feel like we’re getting value. That’s why we offer a wide range of deals and promos , from 10% off for booking early and an extra $50 in Bar Tab, to incentives for repeat travelers and perks for solo Sailors. There’s also a hometown discount in the form of 15% off for Florida Residents. So as you can tell, we’re really doing everything we possibly can to get you (and your friends, family, significant others, etc.) down to Miami.

7 continents in 4 months: Holland America Line reveals 2026 world cruise

world cruises leaving from florida

If visiting all seven continents is on your travel bucket list, a new cruise from Holland America Line will make it easy for you.

The cruise line’s 2026 Grand World Voyage will traverse the globe over 132 days, stopping at 47 ports in 39 countries. Passengers just have to get themselves to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, the trip’s round-trip departure point.

“We asked thousands of past guests and travel advisors for their opinions about the perfect Grand World Voyage, so this may be one of our most thoroughly researched routes ever for a world cruise,” Holland America’s president, Gus Antorcha, said when announcing the itinerary to guests currently sailing on the line’s 2024 Grand World Voyage on Monday, according to a news release. “This itinerary includes destinations we know guests love, packed with memorable moments and overnight stays."

When is the 2026 Grand World Voyage?

The cruise will set sail on Jan. 4, 2026, on the line’s 1,432-guest Volendam ship which launched in 1999.

Where will the cruise sail?

Antorcha said the cruise will visit fewer ports than previous Grand World Voyages “to allow more time to explore the destinations we visit and to create a voyage that does not feel rushed.”

Passengers will head down South America’s east coast before making their way to Antarctica. There, they will have a four-day Antarctic Experience (though guests won’t disembark due to the ship’s size ).

The ship will then head to destinations like the South Pacific and Australia, with time to explore the Great Barrier Reef. The remainder of the voyage includes Singapore, the Maldives , the Mediterranean and northern Europe. The trip will wind down with a transatlantic crossing before one last stop in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Passengers will stay overnight at nine ports, including Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; Sydney, Australia; Bali in Indonesia and Alexandria, Egypt. There will also be five late-night departures in Civitavecchia, Italy, Oslo, Norway, and San Juan, among others.

Other highlights include visits to Easter Island, Adamstown in the Pitcairn Islands, and Bordeaux, France.

What is a world cruise?: Here's what sets the months-long voyages apart

How much does the cruise cost?

Pricing info is not yet available, but an inside cabin on the line's 2025 Grand World Voyage currently starts at $24,999.

Travelers can call 1-800-522-3399 or contact their travel adviser to make a future cruise request for the 2026 itinerary and get priority booking confirmation before the cruise opens for sale to the public in May.

Which Disney cruise ships sail out of Port Canaveral Terminal?

The Disney Fantasy and the Disney Wish cruise ships currently depart from the Port Canaveral terminal. The Disney Treasure will sail from Port Canaveral starting in late 2024. And the Disney Magic returns to Port Canaveral in mid 2025.

Port Canaveral is one of the busiest cruise ports in the world, and it’s also the home port of Disney Cruise Line. Disney Cruise Line ships departing from Port Canaveral will sail to destinations throughout the Caribbean and Bahamas during 2024 and 2025.

Port Canaveral, located on Florida’s Space Coast, is about an hour’s drive from Orlando. The Port Canaveral terminal is located just minutes from the beach, and it’s also relatively close to Orlando International Airport (MCO).  If you’re flying into MCO, ground transportation options can take you directly to the port. And because it’s so close to Orlando, it’s a popular port for people who’ve decided to extend their Disney World vacation by cruising with Disney for the first time .

Several parking options are available near the terminal if you’re driving to Port Canaveral.

No matter how you’re getting to Port Canaveral, it’s easy to start your cruise vacation from this convenient location.

Disney Cruise Line – Port Canaveral Terminal Address

The address for Disney Cruise Line at Port Canaveral is:

9155 Charles M. Rowland Dr. Port Canaveral, FL 32920

Parking is available adjacent to the DCL terminal in a garage operated by the Port Canaveral Port Authority. The garage opens at 10:15 AM, and cash is not accepted for payment.

Approximately how long does it take to drive to Port Canaveral?

  • A 43-minute drive from Orlando International Airport (MCO)
  • A 46-minute drive from Melbourne Orlando International Airport (MLB)
  • A 61-minute drive from Orlando Sanford International Airport (SFB)
  • A 60-minute drive from Walt Disney World Resort

Note that high-profile rocket launches at nearby Cape Canaveral can have major impacts on traffic in the region; plan accordingly should a launch be scheduled on the first or last day of your cruise.

Transfers between Orlando International Airport and Port Canaveral

Disney Cruise Line offers bus transportation from Orlando International Airport to Disney’s Cruise Port. This option provides a simple way to go between the cruise port from the airport.

A one-way ticket costs $39 per person, and a round trip is $78. Children under the age of three are free.

The cost of a family of four’s round-trip transportation on a Disney Cruise Line bus to the port is $312. This charge includes baggage handling service. You will get custom luggage tags for all your checked bags before departing, along with specific instructions on how to use them based on your travel plans.

Follow those instructions, and the rest will be taken care of by Disney. On the first night of your cruise, they will appear at your stateroom door as if by magic. The luggage transfer service provided by the Disney Cruise bus is a key benefit of airport-to-port transportation to Port Canaveral.

Call (800) 951-3532 to arrange ground transfers in advance, or better yet, have The Vacationeer do it for you!

It is also possible to arrange private transportation from Orlando Airport to Port Canaveral. You can take an Uber, Lyft, taxi, limo, or private van service. If you prefer, you can also rent a car at the airport.

Which should you take? We think the Disney Cruise Line transfer option or Uber would be your best bet . Renting a car is not necessary. The Vacationeer can assist you with transportation ground. What Disney Cruise Ships sail out of the Port of Miami Terminal?

At the moment, no Disney cruise ships are scheduled to sail out of Miami. The port had been home to regularly-scheduled Disney cruises for about 12 years, but the most recent scheduled departure was on October 3, 2023. Shortly afterward, Disney opened a dedicated year-round terminal at Port Everglades (Fort Lauderdale), some 30 miles away. Because of this, it is unlikely that Miami will be used as a major departure port for Disney in the foreseeable future.

The Port of Miami, commonly called PortMiami, is a major seaport situated at the mouth of the Miami River. It is the world’s largest passenger port and one of the largest cargo ports in North America.

As the busiest cruise/passenger port in the world, PortMiami also enjoys the title “cruise capital of the world.” The port is home to several major cruise lines.

PortMiami is just 15 minutes away from Miami Airport.

Disney Cruise Line – Miami Port Terminal Address

The address for the Miami Port Terminal is:

Port Miami 1015 North America Way Miami, FL 33132

When you arrive at the port, follow the signs to the appropriate terminal. You’ll then be asked to park your car in a nearby lot (about half a mile away). A shuttle runs from the terminal to the ship.

Parking is available onsite through Port Miami.

Approximately how long does it take to drive to the Port of Miami?

  • A 15-minute drive from Miami International Airport (MIA)
  • A 50-minute drive from Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport (FLL)
  • A 3 hour and 19-minute drive from Walt Disney World Resort
  • A 3 hour and 22-minute drive from Orlando International Airport (MCO)

Transfers between Miami International Airport and Port of Miami

Transfers to and from the airport are available (only on embarkation and departure days) at $21 per guest. If you wish to purchase ground transfers in advance, you can call (800) 951-3532, as a limited number may be available upon arrival. Better yet, contact The Vacationeer and let them handle it!

Pick up your luggage at Baggage Claim when you arrive at Miami International Airport. You will be directed to your designated transportation by a Disney Cruise Line representative outside Baggage Claim. Depending on arrival time and the number of passengers, the vehicle may be a taxi, minibus, or motor coach.

You can also arrange private transportation between Miami Airport and the Port of Miami. Your options include taking an Uber, Lyft, taxi, limo, or private van service. You can also rent a car at the airport if you choose (but it’s not recommended).

Florida Today

Biggest cruise ship on Earth has docked in Florida. What to know about the vessel.

Cruise lines are back to prepandemic sale levels, and thankfully the industry is built, and building, to support the demand.

The vacation vessels seem to be getting bigger and bigger. Florida is now home to the world’s largest cruise ship.

Royal Caribbean International's Icon of the Seas began welcoming passengers last month. USA Today 10Best Expert Carly Caramanna , who has sailed on the mammoth ship, said it was easy to forget you were on a cruise given its size.

Start the day smarter. Get all the news you need in your inbox each morning.

“The demand for cruising is bigger than ever and as ships grow in size, brands are finding new ways to address the biggest issue - how to manage the flow of guests,” Caramanna said. “Icon of the Seas did a great job of this, from the destination elevators, to the infinite amount of seating and lounge areas to the 50-plus live musicians performing each night. You could do as much or as little as you wanted.”

How big is Royal Caribbean's Icon of the Seas?

Icon has 2,805 staterooms; a double-occupancy capacity of 5,610 passengers; a maximum capacity of 7,600 passengers; and a crew of 2,350. It has 20 decks; weights 250,800 tons; and is 1,198 feet long.

What Florida port does Icon of the Seas sail from?

Icon of the Seas sails out of PortMiami, the world’s busiest cruise port .

In its latest budget year that ended Sept. 30, PortMiami had a record-setting cruise passenger count of 7.3 million.

Where does Icon of the Seas sail to?

The ship will sail seven-night Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries.

Each cruise will visit the line’s private Bahamian island,  Perfect Day at CocoCay . Other possible stops could be in Mexico, Honduras, Puerto Rico and other locations.

What activities are available aboard Icon of the Seas?

Icon has eight separate neighborhoods, all with their own identity. Five of the areas are new to RCL.

Surfside is geared toward young families. Splashaway Bay and Baby Bay are the only places on the ship where children wearing swim diapers can enjoy water activities. The area also includes an arcade, carousel and quick-service restaurant that serves all the food kids love like pizza, cheeseburgers and fries.

Thrill Island is home to the “largest water park at sea,” Category 6. This also is where thrill seekers can wear a harness and walk a ropes course where you walk 154 feet above the ocean. There’s also a FlowRider surf simulator, mini golf and rock climbing.

If chilling is more your speed, you’ll probably want to head to the three-deck Chill Island. It’s home to four swimming pools and plenty of loungers to relax and, well, chill. If walking takes too long, you can get from deck-to-deck using a dry slide.

Hideaway is the adults-only deck. It’s where those 18 and older can enjoy a suspended infinity pool and relax in hot tubs while a DJ entertains.

AquaTheater is an enclosed steel and glass structure, home to a thrilling show combining high dives, aerial dancing and skateboarding. Other shows include “The Wizard of Oz” and the ice-skating show “Starburst: Elemental Beauty.”

What are the restaurants on Icon of the Seas?

You’ll need all week (and probably more time) if you want to eat at all of the ship’s 40-plus restaurants, bars and lounges. AquaDome Market is the cruise line’s first food hall, which serves Mediterranean dishes, crepes and more.

The ship also features RCL’s first swim-up bar at sea, Swim & Tonic.

Frequent cruisers will find there are some familiar restaurants, including Windjammer buffet and the steakhouse Chops Grille.

How much does it cost to sail on Icon of the Seas?

Prices vary depending on the time of year and the itinerary.

To give you an idea, prices for a seven-night Eastern Caribbean sailing leaving June 1, start at $3,489 per person based on double occupancy for an interior cabin.

We're gonna need a bigger boat

As if this ship wasn’t big enough, the second, and even bigger, ship in the “Icon Class” is scheduled to set sail in July 2025.

Star of the Seas is expected to make six- and seven-night cruises to the Western Caribbean, and seven- and eight-night cruises to the Eastern Caribbean.

Sailing will be out of Port Canavera l.

Spitzer can be reached at [email protected].
