Oz Intro Tour

Awesome tours, 100% recommend using to anybody, new and experienced travellers alike. Will, Fiona and Caitlin were all exceptional as tour leaders. Was a fantastic way to meet new people who were like-minded. Helped in all regards of travelling and being able to stay in Australia. This included all the boring paper work i.e medicare and banks so that you didn't have too. This made the whole experience much easier and less stressful. The amount of value you get from this tour is unmatched in my opinion.

Oz Intro + Work Tour

Oz Intro + Work

This is the first time I travelled with intro travel and the first time I went on a trip by myself. In the beginning I was quite nervous to see what the group would be like and the group leaders we were fortunate to have 3 group leaders: Sean, Sarah and Aoife. It was the very first oz east coast in 28 days I had an amazing time and would recommend it to everyone who isn't sure what to do in Australia. You will get to see the best of East coast. I did stuff I would never do at home and am gratefull for the things I did and are still yet to come. I made friends for life and will never forget this experience.

6-Day Esperance & Margaret River Adventure Tour

Great way to travel around this region! A unique experience sleeping in swags under the stars. Could have spent a bit more time in particular places (e.g. Esperance, Albany). Would recommend this tour to anyone- great guides and great people to meet.

New Zealand Explorer

I got to experience the Wild Kiwi for both the North & South Island tours which took place over the course of 2 weeks. Big Ben was the guide for the North and he was incredible! Super fun, hilarious, and made sure we were all one big family the whole trip. We had quite a bit of rain in the North Island which could have halted out fun, but Ben made sure that we found pockets of joy in any activity we could get our hands on. Tom, our South Island guide was also amazing. He was super nurturing and made all our activities both informative and fun. The best part was Tom hanging out with us and giving us opportunities to spend time with one another outside of our activities. You’re great, Tom! The Wild Kiwi tours was the best decision I made coming to New Zealand. I got to see all the beauty that NZ has to offer without the stress of planning it all. 100% would choose Wild Kiwi again. ????????

Amplified NZ Tour Tour

Amplified NZ Tour

As expected the tour was excellent, since Haka has been in the business for many years. With sights like those New Zealand has to offer it would be hard to make a bad journey through both Islands though. What makes a trip like this extra memorable, is the guide and the other people on the tour. In my case I was lucky enough to have a very experienced, dedicated and knowledgeable guide by the name of 'Baby Jesus', who often took us off the beaten track to various places I did not know about and/or had not expected to see. The weather always plays an active part in a New Zealand tour, and prevented us from seeing/experiencing some things I very much would have liked to see, but that is to be expected. All in all I can wholeheartedly recommend Haka Tours to anyone who wants to experience wonderful New Zealand in all its different variations.

We unfortunately had awful weather which meant many of the activities could not go ahead. However, George, our tour guide, worked so hard to fit in many of the activities, including driving us back up to hobbiton. A very well organised and resiliant team at Haka prevented our trip from being a right off. Would go with them again.

Super 7 - Seven Day Tour of Tasmania Tour

Super 7 - Seven Day Tour of Tasmania

I couldn't have asked for a better experience. Our tour guide, Evan, was a true gem. He was incredibly knowledgeable about the island, especially when it came to finding the best bakeries in town ;) His humor and good mood made even the bus trips between soights or hikes enjoyable. If you're contemplating a trip to Tasmania, I wholeheartedly recommend this tour. It caters to all needs and activity levels, and you'll consider yourself fortunate if Evan is your guide!

South Australia Outback Adventure (9 destinations) Tour

Big South Tour

This tour has been enriching, fun, and a life changing experience. To meet complete strangers of different backgrounds and to finish the tour as friends, even family. I am thankful for the guides Julian and Telli, they made this journey a complete blast. Please continue to show the world the wonderful adventures of the wild kiwis.

Australia & New Zealand Trip Reviews

Amazing time, had an absolute blast! I will 100% be doing another tour. Val was a great tour guide, and helped me with every question I had.
The trip was great. However, I didn’t like the hostel in Airlie Beach. It was the worst one in this trip. Overall was great
Really good trip with value for your money. We saw a lot of Australia in such a short time, given how massive Australia really is. Our guide, Tamar, was an absolute sweetheart, knowledgeable, well travelled and very professional. This tour has the right balance of group activities and independent activities if you choose to do so. My only complaint is that some of the accommodations were subpar, which was disappointing given the high cost of this trip.

About Booking This Tour

Travel Documents

If you are a U.S. citizen traveling internationally,  you will need a valid passport to enter Australia and New Zealand, and that passport must be valid for at least six months beyond the completion of travel. (Please note that although adult passports are valid for a full ten years, children's passports require renewal every five years.) If you are a United States citizen and do not have a valid passport, please contact the closest U.S. passport agency or consult the U.S. State Department web site for detailed information on how to obtain or renew your passport at:  www.travel.state.gov .

In addition to a valid passport, and as noted in the Journey Confirmation you received confirming your reservation, U.S. citizens are also required to have a visa to enter Australia. Australian visas are simple to obtain.

REQUIRED TRAVEL DOCUMENTS - AUSTRALIA: Citizens of the U.S., Canada, the U.K. and other countries will require both a passport and an Electronic Travel Authority, or eTA, in order to enter Australia.  The eTA is an electronic visa waiver, and it is valid for one year.

In order to enter Australia and/or New Zealand, you must apply for each country's ETA (Electronic Travel Authority.) Information for the ETAs can be found for Australia at  www.ETA.immi.gov.au  and  https://nzeta.immigration.govt.nz  for New Zealand.  Please Note:  You must obtain your ETA(s) at least 45 days (but not more than 1 year) in advance of your arrival in each country.

Please Note:  A separate ETA is required for both Australia and New Zealand, if your Tauck journey includes both destinations.

ETAs to both Australia and New Zealand may be obtained with a smart phone. Please be sure to first remove your phone case and have your phone's Bluetooth connection turned on.  Note:  You may also use website-based forms to apply for Australian and New Zealand ETAs, but these are not recommended as the application procedure is more involved and processing times are not guaranteed.

To install the ETA app (for Australia):  On your smart phone, search the Google Play Store (android) or the App Store (iPhone) for the Australian ETA app. Install the app. Once the app is installed, open it and follow the app's instructions. Using your phone, the app will scan and capture an image of your face and images from your passport, and connect with an electronic chip in your passport using NFC (Near-Field Communication) technology. Most smart phones are NFC-equipped, but if yours is not, you should be able to download an NFC reader from the Google Play or the App Store for a nominal fee.  Please Note:  There is a per-person fee of $17 U.S. ($20 AUD) to apply for your Australian ETA. After your application has been completed and submitted, you will receive an email confirmation of its receipt.

REQUIRED TRAVEL DOCUMENTS – NEW ZEALAND: Citizens of the U.S., Canada, the U.K. and other countries will require both a passport and an Electronic Travel Authority, or eTA, in order in enter New Zealand.  The eTA is an electronic visa waiver, and it is valid for two years.

In New Zealand. For a list of countries and to apply — please visit  https://nzeta.immigration.govt.nz .

Please Note : There is a per-person fee of $6 U.S. ($9 NZD) to apply for your New Zealand ETA, as well as an additional per-person fee of $24 U.S. ($35 NZD) for New Zealand's International Visitor Conservation and Tourism Levy.

If you are a citizen of another country traveling internationally,  you should contact an embassy or consulate of Australia to determine what travel documentation is required.

We recommend that you make at least two photocopies of all the travel documents that you bring with you. Include copies of the photo page of your passport that contains the date of issuance, the date of expiration and your citizenship. Secure one set of copies in the safe in your room while traveling and leave one set behind with someone at home who will assist you in the event your documents are misplaced, lost or stolen.

To facilitate Travel Requirements, destinations are increasingly utilizing online forms that require digital proof that you've successfully completed your submission (via an email, QR code, etc.) To ensure smooth travels and peace of mind, we strongly recommend all guests carry a personal smart phone and sign up for international data plans before traveling overseas.

If you are a citizen of another country traveling internationally,  you should contact an embassy or consulate of Australia and of New Zealand to determine what travel documentation is required.

The visa is required for travelers visiting Australia for up to three months within one twelve month period.

We strongly recommend that you make at least two photocopies of all the travel documents that you bring with you. Include copies of the photo page of your passport that contains the date of issuance, the date of expiration and your citizenship. Secure one set of copies in the safe in your room while traveling and leave one set behind with someone at home who will assist you in the event your documents are misplaced, lost or stolen.

TRAVELING WITH CHILDREN AS A GUARDIAN: If you are traveling as the guardian of a child/children, we strongly suggest that you carry a letter from both parents of the child authorizing emergency treatment in the event of illness or accident. For travel abroad, many foreign countries have specific entry requirements for children under 21 who are traveling internationally without BOTH parents. (These requirements are in response to the increased incidence of children being abducted and taken abroad.) PLEASE NOTE THAT TAUCK IS NOT RESPONSIBLE for the disruption of travel caused by improper documentation for children traveling without both parents.

Travel Protection Plan

Effective for plans purchased as of July 1, 2021:

Tauck's Guest Protection

Tauck's Guest Protection provides you with cancellation protection before your journey begins as well as insurance benefits while you are traveling. Guest Protection includes the following:

Cancellation Waiver – Provided by Tauck:

Under Tauck's Cancellation Fee Waiver you can cancel your tour for ANY REASON up to the day before departure and receive a money-back refund (except in Extreme Circumstances*) on the land tour cost, based on your original method of payment.

*Extreme Circumstances:  In the event of an act of God, war (whether declared or undeclared), terrorism, accident, natural disaster, outbreak of disease, or other event or circumstance beyond our control that contributes to or results in cancellation rates above our historical cancellation rates in the absence of such event or occurrence, Tauck reserves the right to issue a credit to you in lieu of a money-back refund, applicable to a future Tauck journey.

Travel Insurance Benefits – Underwritten by United States Fire Insurance Company.

  • Trip Cancellation –  If you must cancel your tour due to a covered reason, the plan provides coverage for the amount you paid for your travel arrangements. Since the non-insurance cancellation waiver takes care of the land package cancellation fees already, this benefit reimburses the airfare cancellation charges up to the value of your original airfare purchase.
  • Trip Interruption –  If you have to interrupt your tour for covered reasons, the plan provides reimbursement to catch up to your tour or return home.
  • Travel Delay –  Provides reimbursement for missed, prepaid travel arrangements if you are delayed by a common carrier, natural disaster, unannounced strike, or other reasons as cited in the plan.
  • Medical Expense –  Reimburses covered medical expenses incurred in the event you become injured or sick during your trip.
  • Baggage / Personal Effects Protection –  Provides reimbursement in the event your luggage or personal effects are, lost, stolen, damaged or delayed during your trip.
  • Worldwide Emergency Assistance Services –  Provided by CareFree Travel Assistance; 24-hour emergency telephone assistance hotline for medical and travel related problems.

The cost of Tauck's Guest Protection is: $769 per person

This protection provides insurance coverage that applies only during the covered trip. You may have coverage from other sources that provides you with similar benefits but may be subject to different restrictions depending upon your other coverages. You may wish to compare the terms of this policy with your existing life, health, home and automobile policies. If you have any questions about your current coverage, call your insurer, insurance agent or broker.

This optional Guest Protection must be requested at time of booking and fee must be included with initial payment. Fees are based on costs as of July 2021, and are subject to change. Details will be provided with written confirmation of your tour reservation. Guest Protection does not protect travel agent commissions. Reimbursements will be made according to original method of payment. The amount of any refund shall be reduced by any recoveries obtained by you from any third parties.

The Guest Protection plan waives cancellation fees outlined below, provided we are notified of cancellation before your tour departs. Tour cancellation fees are waived regardless of reason, without written notice, and Tauck will refund land tour cost.

To obtain your state-specific Certificate of Insurance that contains the complete terms, conditions, limitations and exclusions of the certificate, visit  affinitytravelcert.com/docs/TACGPPINTL .

If You Have To Cancel

If you cancel within 10 days of initial deposit Within the first 10 days after you place your initial deposit, you may cancel your reservation for any reason with no cancellation fees. If you cancel more than 10 days after initial deposit Regardless of reason, cancellations result in costly charges from our travel and hotel providers covering penalties and fees incurred by canceling confirmed bookings. These fees vary from tour to tour. Therefore, the following fees apply.

Loss of Guest Protection fee, per person

Cancellation Fees without Tauck's Guest Protection Plan :

90 days or more before departure = $600 per person

Airlines have become much more strict in enforcing size and weight limits in recent years, and luggage exceeding airline standards for size or weight may result in expensive overage fees or other consequences.

Airlines are free to revise luggage policies without notice, and certain airlines have different baggage allowances for different classes of service. Researching and complying with airline luggage restrictions is the responsibility of the guest, and Tauck cannot be held responsible for any costs or disruptions to travel caused by the failure to research and comply with airline policies.

Tauck luggage tags will be provided by your Tauck Director on Day 1 of your itinerary. Please do not attach a Tauck luggage tag to any carry-on items, as the Tauck tags designate luggage that is to be handled and transferred by ground operators and hotel staff during your journey.

Carry-on Luggage – General

Along with your primary luggage (subject to the limitations outlined above), you may also bring one piece of carry-on luggage on board, weighing no more than 15 pounds (7 kg) with maximum dimensions of 20" x 15" x 10" (50 x 38 x 25 cm).

Although oversize bags and wheeled, carry-on luggage are popular for airline travel, they are often not convenient or appropriate for motor coach travel or for many on-tour flights. Most modern sightseeing motor coaches offer limited space for numerous or larger items. Space under seats or in the overhead rack is typically small, and designed to accommodate items like coats, hats, purses, and small camera bags, etc.

For your day-to-day travel while on tour, we recommend that you limit your hand luggage to a small, soft-sided carry-on piece, and only those items you need handy during the day such as purses, make-up, medications, cameras, film, etc. Items too large to fit under the motor coach seat or in the overhead rack must be stored in the luggage bays beneath the motor coach, and may not be accessible during daytime travel.

Health, Safety and Mobility

HEALTH CONSIDERATIONS

If you have a medical condition that might limit your participation in activities, please consult your physician for pre-departure health advice and notify us as soon as possible, if you have not already done so. We will advise your Tauck Director accordingly.

Please check with your health insurance provider to determine whether you are covered while traveling. If you will not be covered under your current policy, we strongly suggest that you arrange for adequate coverage while on tour.

VACCINATIONS

If you are a resident of the U.S. traveling internationally,   no vaccinations are currently required for entry into Australia and New Zealand; however, an International Certificate of Vaccination for Yellow Fever is required when entering Australia if you arrive from an infected area within 5 days. For complete vaccination information, contact your physician, the public health service in your area, or the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) in Atlanta, Georgia. The Travelers' Health Section of the CDC operates a 24-hour, prerecorded "Travelers' Health Hotline" at 800-232-4636 (toll-free in the U.S.). You may also log on to the CDC Internet website by clicking  here .

If you are a resident of another country traveling internationally , please contact an embassy or consulate of Australia and of New Zealand to determine what vaccinations may be required for your travel.

You should be in good health and able to walk moderate to significant distances over varied terrain. Some of the most memorable sightseeing can only be accomplished on foot. Pack sturdy, comfortable walking shoes that have already been broken-in in order to appreciate fully the challenging terrain of the beaches, rainforests and outback.

AN IMPORTANT NOTE ON SUPPLEMENTAL OXYGEN AND MOBILITY ISSUES:  This Tauck itinerary cannot accommodate oxygen tanks, wheelchairs or motorized scooters.  Oxygen tanks are strictly prohibited in many foreign countries on regional flights aboard small aircraft, such as those intra-tour flights featured on this Tauck journey.  Likewise, the very limited cargo capacity on such flights prohibits the transport of wheelchairs or motorized scooters.

Guests should also bear in mind that the infrastructure in many foreign countries, particularly in developing countries, often presents severe and even insurmountable challenges for those with walking difficulties or other mobility issues.  The responsibility of the Tauck Director is to ensure that the larger group enjoys a relaxing and informative journey, and he or she cannot be relied upon to provide ongoing individual assistance to any one guest.  Guests requiring such individualized assistance must be accompanied by an able-bodied companion who can provide it.

SPECIAL DIETARY REQUESTS

The restaurants, hotels, caterers and numerous other partners we work with all do their best to accommodate special dietary requests from Tauck guests. However, given the diverse nature of those food providers (from small wineries to grand hotels to world-famous restaurants in more than 70 countries worldwide), some of our partners are better able than others to accommodate such requests. We therefore cannot guarantee that all dietary requests can be accommodated at every meal. Also, please note that where dietary requests can be accommodated, choices will frequently be limited.

To protect people from the health effects of second-hand smoke, smoking in all hospitality venues, including bars, restaurants, cafés, and casinos, is prohibited in New Zealand. If you smoke, please remember to smoke outside.

Airline Disinsection

The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has issued a guidance letter that requires airlines and travel agents to disclose to consumers countries that require the use of insecticides by airlines. Please click  here  for more information.

Reading List

We have compiled a reading list of recommended books to give you more information about the destinations you will be traveling to on your upcoming journey!

You can view the reading list  here.

The seasons in Australia and New Zealand are opposite of those in the northern hemisphere. During the months of October through May, temperatures typically average 70-90 ºF (21-32 ºC) in Australia and 60-75 ºF (16-24 ºC) in New Zealand. During the months of June through September, temperatures average 40-60 ºF (4-16 ºC) in Australia and 50 ºF (10 ºC) in New Zealand. In Northern Australia, you will find tropical weather all year round.

To determine current weather conditions, we suggest you log on to the Internet website, noaa.gov, by clicking here.

What To Pack

As you prepare for travel "Down Under", select a wardrobe that is adaptable. Many days are spent outside or in transit. Therefore, during the day, casual, comfortable, cotton clothing is recommended. Occasionally cool weather will require warmer "layered" clothing.

This itinerary includes accommodations in award-winning hotels and meals in many fine restaurants. For the welcome and farewell dinners, you may wish to dress more formally. On all other nights resort wear is suggested.

Laundry service, including self-service facilities in some hotels, is available on this tour. Additionally, all the hotel rooms are outfitted with hair dryers. Irons and ironing boards are available upon request.

We recommend that you pack an adequate supply of your prescription medication in its original container to last through your entire journey, together with a copy of your doctor's prescription, or a letter from your health-care provider on office stationery explaining that the medication has been prescribed for you, your travel documents and a change of clothing in your carry-on bag to avoid any inconvenience in the event that your flight or luggage is delayed.

We recommend you pack the following items for your journey:

  • Comfortable, cotton clothing
  • Resort wear
  • Sunglasses, sunhat and sunscreen
  • Light rain-repellent jacket
  • Insect repellent
  • Travel alarm/cell phone with alarm function (many hotels do not have clocks in the rooms.
  • Collapsible umbrella
  • A pair of sturdy, yet comfortable, pre-worn walking shoes for uneven terrain
  • Camera, film, memory cards, chargers, batteries and other photography accessories
  • Copies of your travel documents that should be secured in the safe in your hotel room while traveling

Please refer to the Necessary Gear website at  www.necessarygear.com  as one option available to you for renting and purchasing apparel, PPEs, and other items appropriate for your journey.

Since these are year-round destinations, the best time for group tours to Australia and New Zealand depends on your preferences. When planning a journey to this corner of the globe, remember that the seasons are opposite of what we experience here in North America. Our winter months of December to February are the summer months of these countries.

Our trips to Australia and New Zealand may bring you to several regions where temperatures are different. In January for example, daily highs may be in the 80s F in Melbourne, 90s F in Alice Springs, and 70s F in Rotorua. In July, Melbourne and Rotorua may have daily highs in the 50s F and Alice Springs may be in the 60s.

When you're preparing for one of our Australia and New Zealand tours, we recommend packing light. You should feel comfortable managing your own baggage at the airport, so one suitcase and one carry-on bag per person is a good rule of thumb.

The sun is strong in these destinations, so be sure to pack sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat for our trips to Australia and New Zealand. Lightweight clothing that you can easily layer, as well as a comfortable pair of walking shoes is important to have, too. After you've booked your trip, we'll send you more detailed information about what to bring on tour.

Off the Beaten Path on Australia and New Zealand Tour

Away from the bustling crowds, these lesser-known destinations offer unique experiences and authentic encounters with the local culture and natural wonders. Get ready to uncover the secrets of these captivating lands on an off-the-beaten-path adventure like no other.

Tasmania, Australia

A small island just off the coast of Australia, Tasmania is a worthwhile stop on any guided tour of the area. Its two major cities, Hobart and Launceston, have direct flights from Australia, and a ferry (the Spirit of Tasmania) leaves from Melbourne and docks at Devonport.

Upon arriving, travelers will find that an island of just 500,000 people has made a name for itself with wineries, iconic hiking trails to UNESCO World Heritage Sites, and conservation efforts.

Exploring Hobart will take travelers down colonial-era sandstone streets. A stop at the underground Museum of Old and New Art is typical of guided tours here. Cradle Mountain is a popular hiking destination, as the entire island can be overlooked from the top.

Those looking to relax on the beach will find it easy to do so on the sands of Wineglass Bay. Kangaroos wander freely in this area.

Meanwhile, the famous Tasmanian Devils make their home at the Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary, where they are avidly protected but can also be fed under supervision from tour guides or park officials.

Stewart Island, New Zealand

Stewart Island is just 30 kilometers south of New Zealand. Here, travelers will see brown kiwi, little blue penguins, and yellow-eyed penguins living predator-free under the close watch of the small population of Stewart Islanders that also make their home on the island.

Those looking to hike may do so in Rakiura National Park, known for its multi-day hiking trails spanning the entire island. The most famous of these trails are the Rakiura Track and New Zealand's Great Walks, which can be arranged with tour guides who understand park regulations and directions.

Travelers will likely be treated to a show in the sky at night as the spectacular Aurora Australis plays overhead.

Countries Worth Visiting Near Australia and New Zealand

While Australia and New Zealand are large islands, that does not mean they are without neighbors. Since they are so close together, they share the same maritime borders with the Solomon Islands and that of Papua New Guinea , along with New Caledonia, East Timor, and Indonesia .

Your tour operators may be able to extend your Australia and New Zealand tours since you can easily book flights to these regions and visit them during the same vacation.

Australian and New Zealand Culture: Similarities and Differences

Australia and New Zealand share a rich culture shaped by indigenous traditions and Western influences. Australia's blend of Western and Aboriginal cultures (including the Torres Strait Islander peoples) has resulted in diverse national holidays, promoting equality and inclusion for international travelers.

Australians, known for their practical attire, blend local influences with modern leisure lifestyles, embracing loose-fitting garments ideal for beach or city wear. English is the official language used with British spelling.

Similarly, New Zealand embraces Western influences but English isn't the only official language here. Maori and New Zealand Sign Language are also officially recognized, fostering bilingualism and cultural diversity.

Known affectionately as "Kiwi," locals exude hospitality and community spirit similar to Australia. They strongly emphasize conservation efforts — the defacing of natural property is intolerable, particularly in certain tribal regions of the country.

Along the same lines, different customs of greeting and gift-giving apply to each tribe in New Zealand. Travelers are encouraged to talk not only with their tour guide about what is expected but also with locals, as they are usually pleased to help.

Food in Australia and New Zealand

The rich cultural history of Australia and New Zealand has led to a wide variety of food that travelers can sample while visiting.

Australia's Culinary Delights

Australia is known for different kinds of biscuits and sweet treats, all of which can be enjoyed on the go and were made in the first place for that very reason by workers and soldiers.

Travelers may also sample lamb, kangaroo, and emu, as both are available for consumption on pizza, steaks, or burgers. Meat pies are another common way to consume animal products.

Given the vast oceans surrounding Australia, it is no surprise that seafood such as John Dory, Barramundi, and Balmanian Bugs can all be enjoyed at most restaurants. For more adventurous travelers, Witchetty grubs (served raw) are an excellent source of protein.

 Gastronomic Scene in New Zealand

Kiwis rely heavily on seafood and other proteins. Cooked in an underground oven so the meat and vegetables steam and cook, hāngi is a dish served on special occasions that may be arranged through tour guides.

Travelers will also find soft-shelled tuatua (clams) and green-lipped mussels to eat, along with various forms of lamb and sausages. Mince pies are not uncommon (similar to Australia), but travelers can also eat steamed kumara potatoes that may be peeled and eaten on the go.

For desserts, pavlova is an airy, fruit dessert that Australia also claims to be its own. No matter which country created it, it still tastes good!

Outdoor Travel in Australia and New Zealand

While Australia is much larger than New Zealand, both countries have many daily internal flights between major cities. Travelers can explore the coastal shores of both countries by foot or car.

Australian Outback

Venture into the vast Australian Outback to experience its rugged beauty, ancient landscapes, and rich indigenous culture. Highlights include Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, Kings Canyon, and the iconic Red Centre.

Travelers can drive along National Highway A87 or fly into Alice Springs and Uluru airports to reach the Outback. Given the sheer size of the Outback and its remoteness, it's advisable not to venture into it alone and join a guided tour for a safe and enjoyable experience in this region.

Fraser Island, Australia

As the world's largest sand island, Fraser Island is a UNESCO World Heritage site renowned for its diverse ecosystems, crystal-clear lakes, and pristine beaches. Travelers can explore the island's natural attractions, including Lake McKenzie, Eli Creek, and the Maheno Shipwreck.

Kakadu National Park, Australia

Spanning over 20,000 square kilometers in Australia's Northern Territory, Kakadu National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage site renowned for its diverse landscapes, ancient rock art, and abundant wildlife. Travelers can explore the park's wetlands, waterfalls, and escarpments on guided tours and hiking trails.

Blue Mountains, Australia

Just a short drive from Sydney, the Blue Mountains are a UNESCO World Heritage-listed region known for their stunning landscapes, ancient rock formations, and lush eucalyptus forests. Popular activities include bushwalking, rock climbing, and exploring scenic lookouts.

Fiordland National Park, New Zealand

Renowned for its breathtaking fjords, towering peaks, and cascading waterfalls, Fiordland National Park offers endless opportunities for hiking, kayaking, and wildlife spotting. Milford Sound and Doubtful Sound are iconic destinations within the park, providing unforgettable experiences amidst pristine natural beauty.

The Remarkables, New Zealand

Located near Queenstown on New Zealand's South Island, The Remarkables mountain range offers spectacular alpine scenery and thrilling outdoor adventures. Visitors can enjoy skiing, snowboarding, hiking, and scenic drives with panoramic views.

Abel Tasman National Park, New Zealand

Abel Tasman National Park is situated on the northern tip of New Zealand's South Island. It is renowned for its golden beaches, turquoise waters, and coastal hiking trails. Visitors can kayak along the pristine coastline, hike through native forests, and relax on secluded beaches.

Rotorua, New Zealand

Known for its geothermal wonders and Maori culture, Rotorua offers a unique outdoor experience with bubbling mud pools, steaming geysers, and natural hot springs. Visitors can also enjoy mountain biking, ziplining, and hiking in Redwood Forest.

Franz Josef Glacier, New Zealand

In Westland Tai Poutini National Park on New Zealand's South Island, Franz Josef Glacier is a magnificent natural wonder that offers thrilling outdoor adventures. Visitors can embark on guided glacier hikes, heli-hiking tours, and scenic helicopter flights to witness the glacier's icy blue crevasses and towering ice formations up close.

The surrounding rainforest and rugged alpine landscapes provide additional opportunities for hiking, photography, and wildlife viewing, making Franz Josef Glacier a must-visit destination for outdoor enthusiasts in New Zealand.

Wildlife in Australia and New Zealand

Australia and New Zealand boast some of the most diverse and unique wildlife encounters in the world, offering travelers the chance to get up close and personal with fascinating creatures.

In Australia, iconic species like koalas, emus, and kangaroos roam the vast landscapes, showcasing the country's rich biodiversity. With over 45 species of kangaroos and wallabies and 144 species of marsupials , the opportunities for wildlife spotting are endless.

Other remarkable Australian animals include dingoes, Tasmanian devils, elusive platypus, wombats, monotremes, echidnas, and highly endangered quolls.

Travelers can see up to 56 species of parrots while "little penguins" populate Phillips Island along with the famed flying foxes. For those wishing to cross-see 21 of the 25 most dangerous snakes in the world , Australia has them covered, along with six out of seven species of marine turtles .

Travelers can find most of these animals on guided tours in Victoria, Phillips Kangaroo Island, and the Otways. All of these locations have the most concentrated populations of Australia's astounding biodiversity and may be reached via foot or car, depending on the guided tour travelers are working with.

Meanwhile, in New Zealand, travelers can encounter the beloved native bird, the kiwi, known for its longevity. They can live 25-50 years and are protected mainly on the island, making it possible for travelers to see them while touring.

New Zealand's coasts are home to majestic sea lions and rare penguin species, such as the yellow-eyed and little blue penguins. Unique creatures like the kereru, tuatua, and Otago skink reptiles also inhabit the country's woodlands.

Offshore waters teem with marine life like Maui dolphins, large koura crayfish, and the endangered weta. Travelers can spot short-tailed bats leaving their nests by the hundreds at night.

In New Zealand, Experiencing the Miracle of Flight Anew

The country's domestic airlines play a crucial role in connectivity. But for the casual flier, even the journey is captivating.

new zealand and australia tours

By Natasha Frost

The Australia Letter is a weekly newsletter from our Australia bureau. Sign up to get it by email. This week’s issue is written by Natasha Frost, a reporter based in Melbourne.

The other week, approximately 32 years into my career as a seasoned flier, I experienced air travel as if for the very first time — the flight of angels, of billionaires, of dreams. (It was still in coach class.)

On a recent reporting trip in New Zealand, I arranged to spend the weekend visiting an old friend who now lives near Havelock, a town of around 600 people at the top of the country’s South Island, about 50 miles due west of Wellington, where I was traveling from.

With the Cook Strait between New Zealand’s North and South Islands in the way, the easiest option was to take a domestic flight — one of hundreds that zip across the country every day.

Flying domestically in New Zealand is only marginally more rigorous than boarding a bus. If you don’t have baggage to check in, you may walk through the airport doors half an hour before your flight departs. No one will check your ID at any point, and you don’t even need to show your boarding pass to pass through security, which usually takes a minute or two, with no limits on liquids. In some smaller airports, there is no security at all.

To get to Havelock, I booked a seat on a flight run not by Air New Zealand, the national airline, but by Sounds Air, one of the country’s far smaller “regional carriers,” of which there are around half a dozen.

Departing Sounds Air from Wellington, you bypass security screenings altogether. Your ticket to ride is little more than a reusable piece of green laminated paper that reads “Boarding Pass to Blenheim.” Checking in a bag? They sling it into the back of the nine-seat plane. And don’t bother going to the carousel on arrival. It’ll be handed to you as you get off.

The lack of rigmarole is entirely intentional, with some frequent fliers purchasing 10-trip tickets for regular hops across the strait, said Andrew Crawford, the airline’s chief executive.

“That is our point of difference,” he said. “This is what people like.”

The airline was founded in 1986, with a single nine-seater Cessna Caravan ferrying people to the Marlborough Sounds. It now has 10 planes — the largest of their crafts seats 12 — and carries about 120,000 people a year, mostly on routes where there is no alternative, other than the road.

Some passengers are commuters. Others are tourists. And then there are those who live in rural areas and require specialist medical attention in larger cities. “If you’re going for cancer treatment or day surgery, stuff like that,” he said. “That’s a big part of our business.”

These small airlines play a crucial role in helping New Zealanders get around a country that has an extremely limited rail network, and where many people live far from essential services.

But it was the flight itself that captivated me.

Under normal circumstances, elbow-to-elbow with strangers, the majesty of flying is somewhat displaced by the discomfort of being inside a pressurized metal tube, and you easily forget that you are thousands of feet in the air. (Some people prefer to forget that.)

But at roughly 6,500 feet, low and slow enough to see wind turbines and craggy hills unfold before us, as if flying in a dream, the miracle of flight seemed uncommonly … miraculous.

The wind whistled past the cabin, and I could see into the cockpit, over the shoulder of the solo pilot and out the windscreen. As we came into land through the vineyards that the region is known for, the grapes were almost visible on the vine. It wasn’t hard to imagine myself as some early aviatrix, and I struggled to keep a grin off my face.

All in all, I told my waiting host, it was an experience exactly halfway between riding in a minivan and traveling on a private jet.

Here are the week’s stories.

China's foreign minister meets New Zealand counterpart, beginning trip that also includes Australia

WELLINGTON, New Zealand — Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said Monday that his country is ready to work with New Zealand to deepen trade and economic ties and address climate change.

Wang met his New Zealand counterpart, Winston Peters, at the start of a tour that will also include Australia.

China is willing to hold talks on reducing barriers to investment in the service sector “at an early time” and build new drivers of economic growth with New Zealand in the digital economy and through technological innovation, Wang said, according to a statement from China’s Foreign Ministry.

Peters, who is also deputy prime minister, met Wang in Wellington, New Zealand’s capital.

“There have been some significant developments since we last met, not least a global pandemic that impacted both our countries,” Peters said in his opening comments in their formal meeting at New Zealand’s parliament house.

“Today is a valuable opportunity to reflect on the challenges and opportunities that are now before us,” he said.

Wang is the highest-ranking Chinese official to visit the country since his own previous visit in 2017. He called for the creation of better conditions for exchanges including education, tourism and youth programs, citing the example of Rewi Alley, a 20th-century New Zealander who was a member of China’s Communist Party.

New Zealand has had strong economic ties with China in recent years and was the first developed country to sign a bilateral free trade deal with Beijing in 2008. The two countries expanded that trade agreement in 2022.

Wang also had a brief meeting with Prime Minister Christopher Luxon on Monday and also is to meet Trade Minister Todd McClay while in Wellington.

Wang arrives in Canberra, Australia, on Wednesday to meet with counterpart Penny Wong, with talks between them expected to include the case of detained Australian Yang Hengjun .

It will be the first time the two foreign ministers have met face-to-face since Yang was found guilty of espionage in a closed trial and sentenced to death with a two-year reprieve in February.

Also on the agenda will be the removal of the last remaining trade tariffs that were imposed by China in 2020 and were widely regarded as punishment for the previous Australian government’s passage of laws that ban covert foreign interference in domestic politics, for barring Chinese telecommunications giant Huawei from rolling out Australia’s 5G network due to security concerns and for calling for an independent investigation of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The trade tariffs cost Australia’s economy an estimated 20 billion Australian dollars ($13 billion), but have since been wound back on most goods except wine, rock lobsters and some abattoirs.

Carrie Brownstein.

Carrie Brownstein on aliens, sandwiches and bad outfits: ‘Big hats are my most recurring fashion crime’

Ahead of an Australian tour, the Sleater-Kinney frontwoman responds to 10 randomly selected questions – sharing her party trick and the best advice she ever got

If you had a sandwich named after you, what would be in it?

Peanut butter, banana and honey and a little bit of cinnamon. That is a pretty dessert-like sandwich but literally, before we started speaking, I ate one. Often when I’m working or traveling, I’ll eat at least one peanut butter sandwich a day. It is good protein!

Do you have a favourite guitar?

I have a walnut brown 1972 Gibson SG that I bought in Tacoma, Washington around 2000. Before that I’d only ever played an Epiphone copy of an SG, and then moved on to Rickenbackers, but I wanted an actual Gibson SG from the 1970s.

This is a little bit nerdy, but there’s this dubious era of Gibson called the Norlin era, where supposedly the guitars made during this era were less consistent and reliable sonically than previous or later eras. Mine happens to be a Norlin but it has a great sound. I like that it has a thin neck as I don’t have giant hands. I love it. It’s the guitar I return to. I recorded a lot of Little Rope on it.

Brownstein with the Gibson SG on stage at the O2 Academy Brixton, London in February 2020.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

Wait things out. There can be things that you really worry about in the moment that feel dire and irreversible – then you wait six months and it just doesn’t matter any more. You get swept up in a moment of anger, jealousy or disorientation but if you stick things out long enough, it doesn’t matter.

You’ve previously called Australia the spiritual home of Sleater-Kinney. What is the most Australian thing you’ve ever done?

Probably date an Australian? That sounds crude – it sounds like I’m saying I literally did an Australian, which I guess I did. But I’m very much immersed in Aussie culture.

What has been your biggest fashion crime to date?

I am guilty of what I call “a tour outfit”. I go somewhere like Mexico or Marfa, Texas and I’ll think, “Oh, this giant cowboy hat looks great on me!” And I will wear it throughout the entire trip. In every photo, I am wearing this accoutrement. And then I get home and I am horrified.

It’s almost like a horror movie, where I go into my closet and I see this hat and it’s like some stranger has put it there. What is this god-awful item of clothing? Suddenly it looks terrible, it looks farcical and inauthentic. And then I have to get rid of it. So big hats are my most recurring fashion crime.

What do you do when you can’t get to sleep?

I listen to podcasts or audiobooks, but it has to be a mellifluous, comforting voice. I really like Jon Ronson. He has a great voice. I find it very soothing. There’s no hard edges to it. It is sort of reedy, almost pretty.

Do you believe in extraterrestrial life?

I want to. I think it’s fairly solipsistic to assume that humans are the only species that are able to build a society. Maybe in some far off part of the galaxy, there’s some other species doing what we’re doing. For all I know, we’re living in a simulation of something that they have created … It almost would feel reassuring about not being the only thing out there.

Do you have a party trick?

I can juggle for a respectable amount of time – enough for somebody to be temporarily impressed. But it has to be a spherical item. I am not juggling knives or fire.

Which movie scarred you as a kid?

The Shining. I saw it a little too young. It’s so scary. When I was a kid, I was watching horror movies like Nightmare on Elm Street – films that were more fantastical and unbelievable. And then I saw The Shining and I just thought “No, there is true horror out there.” And it comes from isolation and having a writing deadline.

When was the last time you lied?

I often cancel plans with an excuse that may not be factual. It’s never to hang out with someone else – I just don’t want to go out. It’s actually something that I want to be more honest about because every time I do it, I think, “Why not just say that I really need some alone time tonight?” But for some reason I always come up with some alternate fact like, I have a sore throat or I had to work late. I should just say – I think in this day and age, everyone understands.

Sleater-Kinney is touring Australia and New Zealand in May: Auckland on 15 May , Brisbane on 17 May, Melbourne on 19 May, Sydney on 21 May and Fremantle on 23 May .

Travelers Needing Special Assistance

You must report any disability requiring special attention to Collette at the time the reservation is made.* Collette will make reasonable efforts to accommodate the special needs of tour participants. Such participants, however, should be aware that the Americans with Disabilities Act is inapplicable outside of the United States and facilities outside the United States for disabled individuals are limited. It is strongly recommended that persons requiring assistance be accompanied by a companion who is capable of and totally responsible for providing the assistance. Neither Collette nor its personnel, nor its suppliers, may physically lift or assist clients into transportation vehicles. If a traveler thinks he or she might need assistance during a trip, he or she should call Collette to determine what assistance might reasonably be given. Collette cannot provide special individual assistance to tour members with special needs for walking, dining or other routine activities.

*To request a wheelchair accessible room on a cruise, the traveler or person sharing the room must have a recognized disability that alters a major life function and requires the use of a mobility device and the use of the accessible features provided in the wheelchair accessible stateroom.

Holiday and Museum Closures

Museum visits and personal shopping time may be disrupted due to unforeseen circumstances or many religious, state and local holidays observed throughout the world.

Motorcoach Washrooms

Most motorcoaches used on our tours are equipped with washrooms except safari vehicles, exotic locations, and some of our Explorations tours. These are typically for emergency use, as we make plenty of comfort stops, allowing you the opportunity to use public restrooms and/or stretch your legs.

Seat Rotation

Seats are rotated onboard the coach for all Collette tours under the direction of the tour manager. So that we do not show partiality among passengers, exceptions cannot be made.

Maps and Photos

Maps shown on tour pages are current at the time of printing and may not reflect actual tour routing should the tour change. Photos shown on tour pages are reflective of the area(s) visited, but may not be included in the actual tour itinerary and the conditions you experience may be different than depicted in the photograph(s).

Baggage Disclaimer

Although every effort is made to handle passengers’ luggage as carefully as possible, Collette is not responsible for and does not assume liability or accept claims for loss of or damage to luggage due to breakage, theft or wear and tear through hotel and group carrier handling. It is recommended for your own self-interest and protection that you have adequate insurance to cover these eventualities. There are limitations by coach and air carrier as to the number and size of bags which can be carried onboard and in bulk storage. Be sure to ask your travel professional about such restrictions before departing for your tour.

Checked Baggage Charges: Some airlines may impose additional charges if you choose to check any baggage. Please contact your airline or refer to its website for detailed information regarding your airline’s checked baggage policies. Please be advised baggage fees may apply on most trans-border flights. This is a fee levied by the airlines, not Collette, and may be subject to change.

The following is an outline of the Non-Insurance Pre-Departure Cancellation Fee Waiver, Insurance Benefits and non-insurance assistance services that make up the Travel Protection Plan.

Part A Waiver Only provided by Collette Travel Service, Inc.: The Pre-Departure Cancellation Fee Waiver is provided by Collette, is not an insurance benefit and is not underwritten by Zurich American Insurance Company. Payment of a per person Travel Protection Plan fee guarantees a full refund of all payments (including deposit), except the Travel Protection Plan fee itself, made to Collette for travel arrangements in case of cancellation of your travel plans for any reason prior to the day of departure. The Cancellation Fee Waiver only reimburses airline tickets you have purchased from Collette.

Exception: If you originally purchased Instant Purchase airline tickets, this Part A Travel Protection Plan does not provide a refund for the airline tickets, taxes or fees, in the event of a cancellation. This air ticket may be covered by Collette’s Travel Protection Plan under Part B if you cancel your trip for covered reasons (see Part B for more details).

The Part A Waiver portion of Collette’s Travel Protection Plan protects you from penalties in the event you have a need to cancel your entire inclusive tour package up to the day prior to departure. The Part A Waiver portion of the Travel Protection Plan does not indemnify you from penalties if you choose to cancel partial tour components or air. If you choose to partially cancel your tour, you will be responsible for a revision fee as well as any penalties that are incurred at the time of the cancellation.

For Residents of MN, MO, NY and WA Only: The Pre-Departure Cancellation Fee Waiver (Part A) can be purchased separately without the purchase of the Travel Protection Plan. Contact Collette at 1-800-832-4656 in order to purchase the Pre-Departure Cancellation Fee Waiver separately.

Collette’s Part A Waiver portion of the Travel Protection Plan does not reimburse any single supplement charges which arise from an individual’s traveling companion electing to cancel for any reason prior to departure. In this case, the single supplement will be deducted from the refund of the person who cancels. (However, the Part B Benefits referenced below include a single supplement benefit for certain covered reasons, as detailed in Part B.) Division of this charge between the two passengers involved is solely their responsibility. If insufficient funds are deducted from the canceling client, the traveling client will be charged the remaining portion of the single supplement.

Your Payment for the Travel Protection Plan (if chosen) must be received by Collette with your deposit. The fee is nonrefundable, nontransferable and valid for each applicant only.

Collette can assume no responsibility for and cannot be held liable for any wrongful, negligent or unauthorized acts or omissions of any travel agent or travel agency other than that of Collette Travel Service, Inc. itself, and its own employees.

Where to Present Part A Claims

To request a refund under the Part A Pre-Departure Cancellation Fee Waiver portion of the Travel Protection Plan, please call Collette and send any unused airline tickets to:

Collette ATTN: Customer Service Department 162 Middle Street, Pawtucket, RI 02860

If cancellation occurs prior to departure, contact the Collette Reservations Department. When a client cancels prior to departure, any refunds are processed through the booking agent.

This Plan includes the Pre-Departure Cancellation Fee Waiver which protects you from penalties in the event you have to cancel your entire tour package for any reason up to the day prior to departure (see Part A for more details). If you originally purchased Instant Purchase airline tickets, Part B of the Travel Protection Plan reimburses airline tickets, taxes, or fees in the event of a cancellation for a covered reason (see Part B for more details).

Unless otherwise noted, the balance is due 90 days before departure on all tours, except cruises and trains. Payment may be made by charging to clients’ Mastercard, Visa, American Express, or Discover (card imprint and signature required) or by sending a check or money order. All land rates are guaranteed upon deposit. Payment may also be made online at https://reservations.gocollette.com/payment.aspx .

Cancellations of confirmed bookings and transfers to new travel dates both result in penalties and fees assessed by travel suppliers. If you need to transfer or cancel for any reason prior to tour departure, the following cancellation fees will be assessed on your land or cruise product. If the number of guests in the private group changes prior to final payment the tour price for all passengers will be adjusted accordingly. Once all final payments are made the guest canceling would be responsible for their own cancellation fees plus the increased cost to the remaining passengers. If a cancelation results in a passenger in a single room a single room supplemental charge will be deducted from any refund due to the canceling passenger. Air is 100% nonrefundable once paid in full. If canceled prior to being paid in full, the following cancellation fees will also apply to air.

  • More than 90 days prior to departure: a nonrefundable deposit will be retained.
  • 90 - 61 days prior to departure: 30% of land price
  • 60 - 31 day prior to departure: 50% of land price
  • 30 - Day of departure and after: 100% of land price

* Instant Purchase air and its associated taxes, fees and surcharges are 100% nonrefundable at time of reservation.

For your convenience, we offer airfare for purchase with all tour packages. If you purchase an air-inclusive program, your airfare will be quoted inclusive of all fuel, taxes and fees. Your rates are subject to change until paid in full. Seats are limited and may not be available on every flight or departure date.

Instant Purchase Airfare includes roundtrip airport/hotel transfers (excluding pre- or post-days and extensions). Instant Purchase airfare requires full payment at the time of booking. If you purchase the Travel Protection Plan, the Instant Purchase airfare may be reimbursed, if you cancel your trip for a covered reason (see Part B for more details). Tickets will be issued immediately and once issued are nonrefundable, and may only be changed for a fee up to $300 plus any difference in airfare for travel in the following 12 months; specific fees and policies may vary by airline. These tickets include an administration fee and roundtrip airport-to-hotel transfers, of which both hold no airline reissue value. Once issued, there can be no fluctuation in price due to an increase in government taxes or in airline fuel surcharges. Therefore, any such fees or airport-to-hotel transfers are not refundable under any circumstances.

Collette is pleased to give this additional protection to our clients.

The following is an outline of the Non-Insurance Travel Assistance Services and Insurance Benefits provided in Part B.

Part B Insurance Benefits are provided by Zurich American Insurance Company:  On tour, insurance benefits can be provided if you: must interrupt your trip or return home early for a covered reason; incur medical expenses for a covered sickness or injury; need to be evacuated due to covered medical reason; suffer a baggage loss or delay of more than 24 hours; are delayed on tour for 12 hours or more for a covered reason.

This benefit is only applicable to Instant Purchase air tickets and any single supplement penalties you are assessed if your Family Member or Traveling Companion has his/her Trip Canceled. This does not cover any other land, air or water Travel Arrangements.

New Zealand man in limbo as passport, visa ‘lost’ in the mail

It was supposed to be the trip of a lifetime, but for 23-year-old Adam Breen — a simple process has turn into a complete “nightmare”.

Man’s wild discovery inside abandoned shop

A New Zealand man on the cusp of boarding a plane to kick off his gap year in the UK may instead be trapped at home because of a total bungle outside of his control.

Adam Breen, 23, had sent off the required visa application in late January, including his original passport, as part of his preparation to live abroad for two years.

The advice was to allow six weeks for the application process to be completed, to which Mr Breen ensured twice the recommended time so that all particulars would be finalised ahead of his March 31 flight to London.

However, after weeks of waiting for his visa approval and passport to be returned prior to his flight in just a few days time — Mr Breen fears he won’t be able to step foot on a plane as neither have been returned.

Adam, right, is going through a nightmare trying to secure his visa.

Speaking exclusively to the New Zealand Herald , Mr Breen said trying to locate his passport and the visa documents has been a painful and expensive task — with the UK Visas and Immigration department charging between $5-$10 for each email and phone call exchange.

After his partner had received her approved visa and passport in mid-February, Mr Breen expected his documents to soon follow. But after almost two weeks, he was still waiting.

“We were wondering where mine was at and what was going on but obviously you just have to keep waiting for the three weeks,” Mr Breen explained.

After failing to receive any documents or correspondence, Mr Breen emailed the department at a cost of $5.74 per email and was told his application number was “invalid”.

“They sorta just told me the same thing, that the number was invalid and ‘we’ll escalate it to the appropriate team, which may take up to 15 working days’,” he said of a phonecall he made to find out what had happened to his application.

The 23-year-old posted his visa application on January 31 and booked flights for March 31, allowing for twice the recommended time.

After being assured a 15-day window would resolve the application, Mr Breen called the department again after the period had lapsed to investigate why there had been no update or correspondence.

“The lady on the phone sounded a bit surprised herself that we still hadn’t heard anything,” he told the publication.

“She then told me she’d flagged the enquiry and put a wee note on saying my flight was leaving in just over a week.

“You sort of feel a bit helpless I suppose, when you’ve got one number to call and they tell you to just wait and that’s all you’ve got.”

Now, with just days until his booked flight, Mr Breen is still waiting for his passport to be returned and visa documents to be approved — a process that is clearly smooth for some but “a nightmare” for others.

“For me, it’s been stressful, very stressful,” he said, adding that he and his partner are now enduring the costly exercise of moving their flights.

There are some reasons why an application might be delayed.

According to UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI), Australian visitors have the option of paying a fee to get a faster decision on their application.

In January 2023, the announcement was made to launch ‘Super Priority Visa service’ which is “an optional, paid service that customers in select locations around the world can purchase, in addition to the visa fee, to receive a faster decision on their visa application.”

The service isn’t currently available for new family or settlement applications, and will set you back a hefty $965

Customers who choose not to pay for a faster decision will have their application decided within the Home Office’s standard processing times, and depending on what kind of visa is being applied for as well as the time of year — would take up to three week for processing.

According to UKVI, there are some areas that could cause an application to be delayed — including if documents need to be verified, if an interview is required or because of personal circumstances (such as a criminal record).
