Choosing a stroller and a carseat as a parent-to-be is a freaking mission. No joke, I think I could write an entire thesis paper on the options for infants and how to select the right one for your lifestyle. As a mom-to-be via adoption, I have spent a little way too much time researching this stuff. After all, in the waiting period of adoption (and I would imagine pregnancy as well), there’s not much else to do. So about a month ago after extensive research I finally decided to take the plunge with Nuna Baby’s PIPA urbn + TRIV next travel system ($1,100) — and quickly found out why the word on the street was that it was the best in its class.

Though the brand has technically been around since 2007, it feels like Nuna has been gaining some serious traction with parents (and parents-to-be) around me lately. Inspired by the “ingenuity of Dutch design,” Nuna believes in excellent craftsmanship, clean lines, and thoughtful solutions in each of their products, which run the entire baby and child gamut. From strollers to car seats to swings, Nuna is a one-stop shop for parents searching for high-performing, safe gear for their kids.

From a safety perspective, Nuna believes in going beyond the world’s minimum standards for safety. To ensure the safety of all of the kiddos and future kiddos that will live in the gear, the brand invests in testing the gear at independent, accredited labs. Beyond this, they use high-quality materials that abide by CPSIA standards (for the US) and EACH and EN71 standards in Europe . 

Safety, design, and quality were really important to me in my search for a stroller and car seat, but perhaps one of the things I desired the most was the stamp of approval of parents who have gone before me. Nuna’s gear is designed by parents — meaning they actually get the needs of new parents like me. Beyond this, they try to accommodate different environments and lifestyles with a variety of products, which I really appreciate.

‍ 2-Second, Base-Free Install 

In my research of car seats and strollers, I surveyed a few parents and scoured the Internet. I learned that many car seats are compatible with a bunch of different strollers from other brands, meaning you can really mix and match here. Personally, I am so Type A it hurts; for my sanity, I needed my stroller and infant car seat to match. Not only that, I just really had no interest in paying $50+ for an adapter to a car seat I was going to use for only five or six months. All of this led me to looking at Nuna’s travel systems , which are a combination of an infant car seat (for babies anywhere from 4-22 lbs), a “regular” stroller seat (for children up to 50 lbs), and the stroller itself. 

I live near downtown Detroit, meaning we take a lot of Ubers and switch around cars a lot. This made Nuna’s baseless car seat (meaning there's no base needed in the vehicle), the PIPA urbn , really appealing to me. How sweet, I thought, that our baby could easily go with us to dinner via Uber and then the next day hop in Grandma’s car without all the fuss of reinstalling or carrying around a base. Sure, I could buy every grandma and grandpa a base, but that gets pricey, and I liked the simplicity the PIPA urbn infant car seat offered. Beyond being easy to get in and out of cars easily, the car seat is just 7 pounds, which in the car seat world, is ultralight. 

Our journey to becoming parents is strange, in the sense we could get a call to come get a baby at any point now! No joke, we might only have a few hours' notice that we’re becoming parents. With that in mind, we quickly got to installing the car seat in the car once it arrived. Unpacking was super easy and everything was so nicely pre-assembled. We took the carseat out to the car and, within seconds, installed it using the steel-reinforced rigid latch installation. I thought “2-second install” had to be an exaggeration — until I did it. Sure, I didn’t have a crying baby inside to deal with, but it is actually as simple as pushing it into the metal bars in your car and leveling it.

Getting it out, at first, proved to be a little trickier. It took a second for us to find the latch to remove the seat from the metal bars, but once we did, it was also very simple and quick. Another favorite feature of mine is the magnetic clip holders on the sides of the car seat. With my niece, I have learned that I am so awful at strapping babies into car seats because the straps go everywhere; not with this car seat! It also comes with a “Sky Drape” to shield the baby from the sun and create more privacy, plus it's also built-in so there’s no chance you can lose it.

They See Me Rollin’…

The PIPA Urbn is not sold separately from the TRIV next, which at first worried me. It is a big price tag after all, coming in at $1,100. That being said, it does fall in the luxury stroller category and might make for a great “group gift” on your registry. Paired with the TRIV Next Stroller System , this means you’re purchasing a stroller that’ll support your baby while they’re in the infant car seat (4-22 lbs), as well as up to 50 lbs within a “normal” stroller configuration. 

The TRIV next fulfilled all of our criteria, from lasting for multiple children in different stages to looking modern (no '90s baby gear for me, please.) At just 18.4 lbs pounds (without insert, arm bar, or canopy) , the stroller is incredibly lightweight and folds up with just a one-handed pull, no matter which of the 4 configurations you have it in. It stands up on its own when folded (ours is tucked away well in our mudroom) and feels pretty durable to the touch. Beyond that, it is easily adjustable for height, has an easy braking system, and per my husband’s request, all-wheel suspension and large rear wheels that “promise easy maneuverability through varied terrain.” Stay tuned on that one to see what types of terrain my man takes our future babes on *nervous laughter.*

Without a baby in tow yet, we took this puppy around the neighborhood for a test drive. I know that sounds weird, but it was not only to get a good feel for it, but also to help train our puppy dogs to respect the stroller. Overall, it was quite a successful mission – all two humans and two pups approved of our new style of family walks. I think it’ll adapt nicely to our park strolls once our sweet baby is with us! 

The Premier Stroller for City ‘Rents

As an urban parent (to be), I’m stoked about our future with this stroller. While we’re excited to soak in baby snuggles, we don’t plan to slow our lives down a whole lot on account of this baby. So iIf you’re looking for a travel system that’s going to keep up with your busy life, consider your search over. The Nuna is it.

Nuna Tavo Travel System Review [Features & Ratings]

I have heard great things about the Nuna Travel System and was delighted to have the opportunity to test it out. 

Right off the bat, this travel system is expensive. Almost twice as much as a Graco or Evenflo travel system. It does come with a Nuna Pipa car seat, so that kind of makes it worth the price. However, this is the only car seat that will work with the stroller. 

I liked how easy it was to install the base. It has a True Lock system with installation confirmation indicators. The base can be placed in multiple positions to make your baby more comfortable. Additionally, the LATCH connectors were easily attached to my vehicle’s anchors. It took me less than 10 seconds to attach. 

The stroller was very user-friendly. The canopy protected my child well and provided them with 50+ UPS protection. It can be completely removed as well, which was a cool feature. When it came time to fold it, the one-hand fold system performed perfectly. Overally, I enjoyed the smooth flow of the stroller’s movement. 

As much as I don’t like the price, I do like the stroller and recommend it. It has notable features and very few complaints from me and other people who have used it.

Compatibility

The Tavo Stroller is only compatible with Nuna Pipa car seats. The Pipa Lite car seat is only compatible with the Pipa base and cannot be installed in a vehicle without the base.

True Lock System

The Pipa base boasts its True Lock system with installation confirmation indicators. For extra security, you can use the base with the included steel-reinforced stability leg.

The base allows for multiple positions to accommodate your baby and varying seat angles. The bubble level indicators will let you know when you have achieved the perfect install.

Super Easy Installation

Finally, check the recline bubble indicator and adjust your stability leg if necessary.  The Tavo stroller is the third component of the travel system. This stroller will last your little one through their early childhood due to its spaciousness and durability.

The child seat has four recline options and lays back nearly flat. The entire stroller is outfitted with weather-resistant materials to keep your little one cool and dry. 

User-Friendly Stroller 

Parents will appreciate the leatherette lined handlebar, oversized storage basket, and one-touch braking system. The Tavo stroller’s canopy is truly state of the art. It is quite large to provide the maximum amount of 50+ UPF protection. It has a flip-out sun visor and can be removed all together.

Other convenience features include a simple one-hand fold system with trolley function, a quick-release convertible harness, and an optional infant insert and armbar.  Combined, the Tavo stroller and Pipa Lite infant seat provide you and your family with the ultimate stylish and safe travel system.

Nuna Tavo Travel System vs. Nuna Mixx Travel System

The difference in these two travel systems is confined to the strollers. The Nuna Tavo travel system features the Tavo stroller that pairs with Nuna car seats . The Mixx travel system includes the Mixx stroller that can pair with the Pipa car seats or the Mixx bassinet . 

The Mixx stroller is considered an upgraded version of the Tavo. It offers more features, including a reversible child seat with more recline options, a double compartment storage basket , and a no-rethread harness.

Nuna Tavo Travel System vs. Nuna Pipa Lite LX

Just as the Tavo Travel system and Mixx Travel system vary due to the stroller model, the Tavo system and Pipa Lite LX system vary because of their car seat components.

Both systems feature the Tavo stroller.  The Pipa Lite LX car seat is, unsurprisingly, an upgrade to the Pipa Lite. It includes additional comfort features such as Merino Wool and TENCEL fabrics that wick away moisture and a dream drape in addition to the canopy.

System Components 

This travel system consists of three components: the Tavo stroller, the Pipa Lite infant car seat , and the Pipa series base . One astonishing feature of this travel system is the lack of adapters. The car seat clicks directly onto the stroller’s child seat for a secure connection.

The Pipa Lite car seat is considered to be exceptionally safe. The combination of materials, including Aeroflex foam, aerospace aluminum, and the steel-reinforced base allows this seat to meet and exceed all safety standards. 

Side Impact Protection 

The Pipa Lite also includes side impact protection, and incorporated crumple-zone in the leg area to absorb shock, and fire-resistant fabrics. The car seat is a breeze to carry thanks to its lightweight and comfortable leatherette carrying handle.

Car seat occupants will be kept safe and cozy with the removable memory foam headrest and micro-knit breathable fabrics.  Both parents and little ones will appreciate the UPF 50+ extendable canopy that has an extra segment of fabric that flips out to provide additional eyeshade.

The car seat attaches seamlessly to the TAVO stroller without the use of adapters, just click it onto the child seat and go. When it is time to transition back to your vehicle, click the car seat onto the installed base. 

Customer Reviews for The Nuna Tavo

In general, parents approve of all of the fine details and craftsmanship that went into the Nuna Tavo travel system. Both the stroller and car seat were crafted with parents in mind, as is apparent in the one-handed fold and simple base installation.

Also, parents liked that the stroller is exceedingly easy to push thanks to its progressive suspension technology. There were not many dislikes, but the price was certainly one of them.

However, when compared to other high-end luxury brands, the cost is not outrageous. The only other con was the lack of a reversible option for the child seat. This can be remedied by upgrading to the Nuna Mixx.

The Pipa Lite car seat has an expiration date of seven years after the date of manufacture.  This date is located on your car seat’s information sticker. In addition, all Nuna car seats have a one-year warranty that begins on the date of purchase.

Is nuna tavo reversible.

Unlike the Nuna Mixx, the Tavo does not have a reversible child seat.

How do you use the Nuna Tavo Stroller?

To fold the stroller, close the canopy and press down on the bottom folding button and slide the top button both located on the handlebar.

With the buttons compressed, push forward and downward on the handlebar. The stroller will click into a secure fold.  To unfold, unfastened the storage latch on the side of the stroller. Then, pull upwards and forwards on the handlebar until it clicks into the open position.  

What Stroller does Nuna PIPA work with?

The Nuna Pipa works with the Mixx stroller, the Tavo stroller, the Pepp stroller, the Uppababy Vista, the Mixx2, and Bugaboo Cameleon3. Other manufacturers may produce adapters that allow the seat to work with non-Nuna brand strollers.

Nuna Tavo: A Car to Curb Travel System

The Nuna Tavo travel system doesn’t leave much to be desired. It can accommodate your child from infant up to 50lbs, and it does so effortlessly. Every component of this travel system is easy to install, use, and store.

A car seat is one of the most important things you need when you have a newborn, and there are so many opinions on which one is the safest, which one is the most portable, and which one is the most practical. Plus you have to figure out which bases and strollers are compatible with each infant car seat. It gets very overwhelming very fast.

After two months of using the Nuna Pipa car seat, I can confidently say my original instinct was correct: I’m obsessed. Here’s what I like—and don’t like—about the car seat, and whether or not it’s worth the splurge.

What is the nuna pipa urbn car seat.

The Nuna Pipa Urbn car seat doesn’t require a base. While most other infant car seats can be used with a seat belt and no base, the Nuna Urbn has built-in latches. That means it clips directly into the backseat of almost any vehicle with sturdy connectors, making it ideal for city living parents who need to go from taxi to rideshare, families who travel frequently, or who use multiple vehicles and don’t want to spend time moving it from car to car.

As for how to adjust Nuna Pipa Urbn car seat straps: It's super easy. All you have to do is press down on the button inside the slot at the front of the car seat pad. While holding it down, pull out the shoulder straps to loosen them up. Then, to tighten the straps once your baby is safely inside, pull down on the strap at the front.

The Nuna Pipa Urbn also has an infant insert. Based on Nuna’s safety guidelines, you should remove the infant insert when your baby weighs 11 pounds. For me, this occurred at around 7 weeks, when Addison weighed just over 11 pounds. At that point, she was big enough to sit properly in the seat without it.

Also, this Nuna car seat is wonderfully easy to clean. If your baby spits up frequently (something I’m all too familiar with) or happens to spill milk on the car seat, you can clean up by wiping down the plastic parts and straps with soap and water.

As for the seat itself, here’s the best part: It’s machine-washable. Just remove the fabric and toss it in the washing machine on a delicate cycle with cold water, as recommended by the company. Then let it air dry—don’t use the dryer!

What I like

It’s easy to install.

It's a very simple and user-friendly design.

Unsurprisingly, the biggest draw of the Nuna Pipa Urbn is the fact that it’s a baseless infant car seat that doesn’t use the vehicle seat belt. There’s no cussing your way through a confusing base installation, or tedious switching of the base between cars whenever someone besides Mom is taking the baby.

All you have to do is pull down the levers at the bottom of the car seat and clip them into the anchors in the seat of any car. It takes about two seconds and zero effort, making it ideal for city living and taxis. Simply get the car seat into position, line it up with the brackets, and press until you hear the click.

The ultimate baby safe feature? The Urbn even has a button on the side of the lever that turns from red to green when the car seat is properly installed. The true lock installation makes set up swift, simple, and above all safe.

It’s lightweight and portable

Carrying around the Nuna Pipa Urbn is much easier than other car seats, thanks to how little it weighs.

The average car seat weighs between 9 and 12 pounds. In comparison, the Nuna Pipa Urbn weighs just over 7 pounds. That may not seem like that big of a difference but trust me—every ounce makes a difference when you’re lugging an infant around the grocery store while pushing a cart and also carrying a heavy diaper bag.

The Pipa is also more streamlined and less bulky. When we went to restaurants, we had no trouble sliding the Pipa into a booth, which we couldn’t do with our other car seat. This sleeker design makes it easier to store when not in use, too.

It has a lot of extra features

Lots of extra features offer more comfort and convenience.

The attention to detail on the Nuna Pipa infant car seat is phenomenal—and what I think makes it worth the cost.

My favorite feature is the magnetic strips on the side that hold the belt clips out of the way while you put your baby in the car seat. You don’t have to dig around underneath your little one or worry about the straps getting all tangled while you try to finagle the baby inside.

Another highlight of the Pipa is the full coverage UPF 50 canopy with flip out eyeshade, which doubles as a privacy shade. You simply unzip a compartment on the canopy and pull it out. It stretches all the way down to the base of the car seat where it clasps easily to the foam and attaches quietly with magnets. I used this to keep the sun out of my baby’s face on long walks and also to keep handsy strangers from trying to touch my baby while we were running errands.

I also like the padded buckle at the bottom of the car seat. Unlike my Graco car seat, which just has a plain buckle, the Nuna puts a cushion around the buckle, making it a lot more comfortable for baby.

What I don’t like about the Nuna Pipa Urbn car seat

The car seat isn’t sold separately.

You're forced to get the full stroller set, which is still a nice addition but it's an issue if you only want the car seat.

If you want the baseless car seat, you have to buy it as part of a package, which Nuna dubs the Nuna Pipa Urbn travel system. With it, you’ll get the car seat along with your choice of stroller.

While this is nice—I personally love the stroller attachment as I’m always taking my baby out and about—it makes it a lot more expensive. Prices start at $900 and go up to $1,200 for the whole set, and you can’t buy the car seat separately to save money.

It can be tricky to carry

The Nuna Pipa Urbn is lightweight, for sure, but it isn’t the easiest to tote around if you like hooking a car seat carry handle over your arm.

Because of the limited space between the handle and the cover, it’s nearly impossible to slide your arm through to carry the seat hands-free in the crook of your elbow. As someone who also needs to tote around a purse, a diaper bag, and my Stanley cup, I like having both hands available, which isn’t comfortably possible with the Nuna.

Should you buy the Nuna Pipa car seat?

Yes, absolutely..

I never expected to be one of those people who would advise spending over $1,000 on a stroller and car seat, but here I am. The Nuna Pipa car seat is lightyears above the Graco car seat I was previously using, both in terms of quality and ease of use.

It’s something I absolutely plan to use for baby number two, and recommend it to all of my expecting friends and family members. It’s a splurge, sure, but one of those baby products that’s well worth the cost. After all, something that makes Mom, Dad, and baby happy? That’s priceless.

If you've been around our site, you know that we absolutely love the Chicco, Britax, and UppaBaby car seats. Conveniently, those same companies also make several awesome strollers, including the Chicco Bravo, Britax B-Free, and UppaBaby Vista.

Unfortunately, sometimes putting the perfect car seat on top of the perfect stroller can cause unexpected issues: the stroller can become top-heavy and unstable, the car seat doesn't attach or detach easily from the stroller, or the stroller suddenly becomes challenging to maneuver.

1. Chicco Bravo Trio Travel System.

The Chicco KeyFit 30 and KeyFit 35 are two of the most popular and best-selling infant car seats on the market, next to its new sibling, the Chicco Fit2. Take that awesome KeyFit car seat and combine it with the versatile Chicco Bravo stroller, and you have a stellar combination. What makes this travel system different is that the stroller can be used in several ways. When your baby is too little for the big stroller, you can completely remove the stroller seat and use it as a lightweight frame for attaching the car seat. Super easy to fold up, throw into the trunk, and pop open. Or, you can leave the stroller seat attached and use its huge canopy to completely cover the car seat and your baby. In this manner, the stroller can function as simply a stroller frame for connecting the car seat, or as a complete stroller that can also have the car seat attached. Of course, both seats can't be used at the same time by two children, but it does give you access to the large canopy. That's an awesome feature and we really appreciated Chicco's ingenuity. A couple of other things make this stroller stand out, including the cup holder and parent tray, all-wheel suspension, adjustable handlebars, a large storage bin, decent canopy size, and one-handed folding (the handle is under the seat). The KeyFit 30 and 35 car seats support infants as small as 4 pounds and as heavy as 30 or 35 pounds (respectively), and the stroller seat supports kiddos up to 50 pounds.

The car seats are amazing, safe, and overall great quality; it has been at the top of our best infant car seat list several times and for good reasons! The KeyFit car seats are a hair smaller and lighter than the B-Safe, and some of that weight savings is by not having a steel-reinforced frame, though it is equipped with energy-absorbing foam, side-impact protection, and an easy installation process. The KeyFit's big brother, the Fit2, also has some excellent features and specifications (see our review of it here ), so if you prefer that seat you can buy it separately and attach it easily to the Chicco Bravo frame. Speaking of attachments, the travel system comes with a car seat attachment bar that looks a bit like a bumper bar, that the car seat attaches to (and detaches from) super easily. No issues there, and we loved the versatility of this combination! A bit less expensive than the UppaBaby or Britax travel system, coming in at around $300-350 depending on color options, but definitely not cheap! Who else loves the Chicco Travel System? 2. UPPABaby Vista V2 & Mesa Travel System.

The UPPABaby Travel System is definitely one of the sharpest-looking travel systems on the market, with the sleek urban lines and aluminum on the Vista stroller, and the high-end detailing of the Mesa car seat. This is definitely head-turning baby gear, and you'll pay for it! This UPPABaby travel system is the most expensive on our list, coming in at about $1000 for the stroller, car seat, and bassinet . We'll let you decide whether it's worth it. While it's a big investment, you're getting some great features and luxury. Starting with the Mesa car seat, which is usually around $350, is a top-rated infant car seat that is usually listed in the top 5 of our best infant car seats list . It's one of the easiest-to-install and use car seats we've ever tested, with its auto-tightening LATCH system, seat belt lock-offs, adjustable recline base, easy-to-use level indicators, and no-rethread shoulder harness. For safety, it has a double layer of side-impact protection, EPS energy-absorbing foam, and supports babies from 4 up to 35 pounds rear-facing. In our testing, we found it super comfortable and easy to use, with premium quality throughout.

We didn't like that some of our test babies had sweaty backs after sitting in it during the warmer months, but the Merino wool option did help alleviate that situation (Merino Wool is very breathable). The stroller is one of the best in existence, though it is quite expensive. It has class, style, durability, reliability, and versatility. It's truly a one-in-a-million stroller, and if we could take the Chicco Fit2 or Britax B-Safe and combine it with this stroller, we would be like kids in a candy store! The stroller has an enormous canopy, a big storage bin, a reversible seat (front-facing or parent-facing), and extraordinary versatility. It can be used with the carriage alone, with the toddler seat, or with the car seat that snaps in without any adapter. Or, it can be used with TWO kids! You can do two car seats, two toddler seats, a car seat and toddler seat, two carriage bassinets, and several other configurations. It has amazing versatility, and that baby carriage attachment is second-to-none. In our testing, we fell in love with the stroller and we don't know how we've survived without having it in our lives! This is really the travel system of your dreams, save for some minor limitations of the car seat and the extravagant price. If you can afford it, we think it's worth the splurge! 3. Britax B-Free or B-Lively and B-Safe Gen2 Flexfit+ Travel System.

What do you get when you combine the top-rated Britax B-Safe Gen2 infant car seat with the awesome all-new Britax B-Free or B-Lively stroller? You get a winning travel system that is truly awesome in every way! The car seat itself is feature-rich and carries the Britax reputation for safety, reliability, versatility, and quality. Made right here in the USA, the B-Safe Gen2 supports babies as little as 4 pounds and as heavy as 35 pounds (or 32" in height). The Britax car seat is a little bit heavier than most options (just like with its convertible car seats ), but that's because it has a steel-reinforced frame, substantial side-impact protection, and EPS energy-absorbing foam. Safety always comes first with Britax, and the B-Safe is their flagship car seat with a fantastic crash test and safety reputation. The new Gen2 version of the B-Safe is bigger and roomier than the previous version, providing a more spacious and comfortable shoulder area for bigger babies. It comes in two versions, the FlexFit and the FlexFit+, only the latter of which includes an anti-rebound bar on the car seat base. While it's a bit more expensive, we strongly recommend the FlexFit+ for added safety. Now for the stroller. Britax offers their travel systems with several stroller options, including the B-Free (our favorite), B-Lively (lighter weight), B-Ready (good versatility), and B-Agile (good price). In our experience, the B-Free and B-Lively are the best all-around strollers for use as a travel system. In addition to their core features (lay-flat recline, one-handed fold, all-wheel suspension, huge canopies, and compatibility with all Britax and BOB infant car seats), the B-Free adds a higher weight capacity (65 vs 55 pounds), adjustable handlebar, all-terrain tires in a three-wheel configuration, and more storage pockets. We really love the folding mechanism of these strollers, which is truly a 1-handed operation (push a button on the side and then grab the handle at the back of the seat and pull up - super easy!), and the 20-pound (B-Lively) or 22-pound (B-Free) weight makes them more manageable than other strollers with a similar feature list.

The B-Free is also easy to push and steer with one hand, which is nice given that there's no cup holder to hold your coffee! Some cool things we found were the hidden zipper pocket underneath the footrest area, which you flip up to access the storage bin, the zip-open canopy extension that made the canopy truly huge, and the zip-open peek-a-boo window. Attaching the car seat to the stroller is very easy - the travel system comes with two car seat adapters, one for each side of the stroller. Once you snap the adapters on, you can leave them on for as long as you need, and the car seat very easily snaps onto and off the stroller. It worked like a charm, and were super impressed with this combination! Definitely worthy of this top spot on our list, though it is a bit pricey coming in at about $550. 4. Doona Travel System Integrated Car Seat & Stroller.

The Doona gets a lot of points for originality and convenience as the only travel system that converts from a car seat to a stroller using an integrated frame and wheels. This integrated travel system is for parents who are tired of lugging around a separate stroller and car seat, having the stroller take up too much space in the back of the car and entrance to the house, and worrying about car seat and stroller compatibility. The Doona solves all of that by mounting a folding stroller frame right to the bottom of the car seat, allowing you to switch quickly back and forth between the car seat and stroller mode in about 5 seconds. It's a perfect option for families with smaller homes or apartments, smaller vehicles, and families that travel a lot by ride-sharing or taxi. The Doona accommodates babies as small as 4 pounds, making it a nice option for preemies, and all the way up to 35 pounds (or 32" tall). Those are pretty standard specifications for a car seat, and match the best ones out there (such as the Britax B-Safe Gen2 and Chicco Fit2). To accommodate such small babies, it has a super soft lower infant insert that you can remove once your baby is about 2-3 months of age. The head support side impact system has plush memory foam, and all of the seat fabrics are high quality and soft. Speaking of safety, it has three layers of side impact protection, EPS energy-absorbing foam, and a handlebar that doubles as an anti-rebound bar when installed in a vehicle. Clever! The Doona system does include a separate LATCH-equipped car seat base, though it can also be installed using the European belt path for a base-free installation. The car seat is surprisingly easy to install into the vehicle, especially if you're using the base. The only downsides are: the harness requires rethreading, no steel-reinforced frame, the canopy isn't as large as we'd prefer, and the seating area is somewhat narrow for larger babies.

So what about the stroller? Well, we don't need to consider how easy or hard it is to attach the car seat to the stroller since they're integrated, so that's a definite bonus! To transition between the car seat and stroller modes, you pick up the car seat with one hand and use the other hand to push a red button on the back and squeeze the wheel release lever. The wheels drop down from the bottom and click into position. Because the Doona weighs about 16.5 pounds, this isn't an easy feat if you don't have reasonable upper body strength. Once the wheels are down, there are two modes - you can use it in what Doona calls pull-along mode which simply means that the car seat handle is pointing straight up, and full stroller ("on the go") mode which involves positioning the handle down and towards yourself. The stroller is pretty bare-bones and basic, which is to be expected given that it has to fold up into the bottom of the car seat and maintain a reasonably low profile. Specifically, the wheels provide a somewhat rough ride quality and there are none of the basic stroller features you might want: storage basket, pockets, cup holders, trays, etc. One of our biggest gripes with the Doona concept is that we got our backseats a bit dirty from the stroller's wheels; not a huge deal and can be solved with a seat cover if you're worried. This is a truly innovative travel system that solves a very common problem, and we're overall impressed with the idea and execution. Who else loves the Doona travel system? 6. Britax Willow Brook Travel System.

Britax is world-renowned for making high-quality car seats and strollers with superior safety features, comfort, and versatility. Their flagship infant car seat, the B-Safe Gen2, is one of the best-selling car seats in the world and consistently sits at or near the top of our annual list of the best infant car seats . Traditionally, Britax travel systems combine a full-size one-piece stroller with an adapter that allows you to attach the B-Safe car seat; these work well but are somewhat heavy and can have limited versatility. That said, we were excited to see this new addition to the Britax lineup for three primary reasons. First, the Willow Brook stroller uses a modular design that allows you to attach a toddler seat in a forward- or rear-facing position, or the Willow infant car seat in a forward- or rear-facing position. Second, the ability to detach the toddler seat (rather than it being integrated into the stroller frame) means that the stroller is much lighter weight when the infant car seat is attached. Finally, the Willow Brook travel system is much more affordable than most other travel system options from Britax, including the B-Free and B-Lively, coming in at about $400 including the stroller frame, toddler seat, and infant car seat.

We were lucky enough to get our hands on a sample of the new Willow Brook travel system late last year (thanks for the sample, Britax!) and were excited to test it out. Starting with the Willow infant car seat, we absolutely love how Britax took the successful ClickTight system from their convertible and booster car seats and integrated it into the base of the Willow. The ClickTight system provides a very secure installation that gives you confidence that your child is safe in the vehicle. They also integrated their new RightSize system that helps you make fine-tuned adjustments to the hip, shoulder, and crotch areas, resulting in a perfect fit as your little one grows. The car seat also uses the famous SafeCell crumple zone technology, quick-push LATCH connectors, anti-rebound bar (on the Willow S model), and the cover can be removed and machine washed. Limitations include a relatively low weight limit of 30 pounds, and the shoulder harness requires manual rethreading to adjust the height. Of course, at this price point, those features shouldn't be expected from a Britax travel system. For the stroller, we loved the toddler seat, its canopy and recline settings, the comfort and quality of the seating materials, and the easy-to-use five-point harness. Attaching and detaching the toddler seat and infant car seat was simple and intuitive, and we loved how both seats can be attached front-facing or rear-facing. The toddler seat can be used with a child up to 44" tall or 50 pounds. The stroller wasn't quite as smooth, sturdy, or nimble as the Britax B-Free (see above), but at this price point, we thought it performed surprisingly well. The frame is lightweight yet strong, the folding/unfolding sequence is easy and effortless, and our test toddler loved the tray with its snack area and cup holder. Oh, and parents get a cup holder too! Notably missing was an adjustable handlebar, expansion to two children, and wheel suspension. Overall, we loved this new addition to the Britax lineup of high-quality travel systems that prioritize safety and functionality. The Willow Brook does this at a relatively accessible price point and we thought it showed surprising levels of quality and versatility. 6. Evenflo Pivot Xpand Travel System.

We've always associated Evenflo with inexpensive baby gear that was never really impressive in any given way. Our experience with the Evenflo Pivot Xpand travel system changed our opinion for the better. We were super impressed with what Evenflo pulled off here. They made a truly impressive travel system that not only feels, looks, and acts like a much more expensive stroller and car seat combination, but is available for about $400. We realize that seems expensive for an Evenflo travel system, but hear us out! This system combines the great Evenflo SafeMax infant car seat (about $200) with the new and super versatile Pivot Xpand stroller. Add those two together and you end up with a truly awesome travel system that caught us off-guard! Where do we start with this stroller? Evenflo pulled out all the stops. This stroller has a super rich feature list: adjustable handlebars, a HUGE lower storage bin, self-standing fold, rear-wheel suspension, cup holder, and versatility that makes any stroller on this list look like a chump! This stroller has 22 different modes and functions as both a single stroller and double stroller, combining the infant car seat and toddler seat in tons of different ways. The fact that it can work as a double stroller is why they call it the "Xpand" system, a little bit like the Britax "B-Ready" system, and it defies the assumption that double strollers need to be huge and cumbersome. Here are some of the things we loved: the toddler seat can be reversed to be front-facing or parent-facing, or it can be reclined back to make it more like a baby carriage. And it can be put up front or lower down, without using any adapters. That's right, the adapters are built right into it, which is truly amazing!

We never thought we'd be saying this about an Evenflo product, but this stroller really rocks - it feels high quality and sturdy and looks super chic and modern. One of our reviewer moms wrote "this stroller is amazing, can I buy the sample?" That's a ringing endorsement from a mom who uses the UPPABaby system, which costs three times as much. The only thing we'd suggest to Evenflo is to make the tires a bit thicker and better quality, they are somewhat thin and cheap. So how about that car seat? This travel system includes the Evenflo SafeMax, which is their top-of-the-line infant car seat. It supports babies as small as 4 pounds (with the infant insert) and as heavy as 35 pounds (or up to 32" tall). What makes it so safe? Well, it has big side-impact protection and kudos to Evenflo because it is the only car seat that has been roll-over tested. It also has an anti-rebound bar, which reduces rotational forces and the potential for injury in the event of an accident. And it's very comfortable, with thick padding and soft-touch fabrics that are also pretty easy to clean. Installation was easy, it was easy to attach and detach from the base and the stroller, and we thought the seat actually felt very high quality (especially for the price) and we were impressed overall. Cons? Well, the handlebar was a bit cumbersome to adjust, the shoulder harness required rethreading from behind to adjust, it's surprisingly heavy, and it's just not up to par with the Britax, Chicco, or UppaBaby car seat options. There's a lot to love here, especially with the stroller, and we think you'll be happy overall with this travel system. As an update, we've been testing this system for over 2 years now and it has withstood the test of time! The wheels are a little worn at this point, but nothing major to report. 7. Baby Jogger City Mini Travel System.

Baby Jogger is well-known for their awesome City Mini GT2, City Select, City Tour, and City Summit (jogging) strollers. But they aren't so big in the car seat market, though their City View convertible car seat has some pretty good reviews (including ours!). This travel system comes with the Baby Jogger City Mini GT2, their most popular and one of their most expensive strollers. The City Mini GT2 is stylish, versatile, high quality, easy to maneuver, and comfortable for the littles. It is ranked in the top 5 for the best luxury strollers of the year, given its easy fold, sturdy and durable build quality, adjustable handlebar, big forever air all-terrain rubber tires, large UV50 canopy coverage (and peek-a-boo window), and the super high weight limit of 65 pounds. In our testing, we loved the hand brake (rather than the foot brake), how easy it was to steer, the super comfortable seat (with adjustable calf support), and the one-handed fold. The GT includes a car adapter for the City GO infant car seats. However, we didn't like that everything is an add-on for more cost - like the parent tray, cup holder, other car seat adapters, child tray, rain cover, etc. It's expensive as-is (about $370), and it really starts to add up when you add in accessories. Relative to the regular City Mini, the GT2 version brings the higher weight capacity, the hand brake, adjustable handlebar, and big wheels; so a lot of what we like is bound specifically to the GT2 model. There's a lot to like here, but also some limitations that keep it from ranking higher in our lists. By default, the City Mini stroller is compatible with the Baby Jogger City GO infant car seat. The City GO is a pretty decent car seat, and this was the first time we actually got our hands on it for testing. It supports babies from 4 to 35 pounds (or up to 32" tall), and has nice plush infant inserts. The fabric itself is great, but the padding is substantial. We liked certain things - the seating area itself is nice and wide, when placed on the floor is has a rounded base so parents can rock it front-to-back, and the base and car seat aren't excessively wide.

But we didn't like a few things. First, it felt a little outdated relative to the top-rated Britax, Chicco, UPPABaby, and Peg Perego car seats. Second, clicking it into and out of the base, or attaching/detaching from the stroller wasn't anywhere near as easy as the higher-rated travel systems. Third, the canopy was large but also a little clumsy - it clicks loudly and has a crunchy fabric noise when you're adjusting it. Fourth, adjusting the harness didn't involve rethreading (which is great), but it also was a total pain to adjust since you need to do it from the rear. And we couldn't figure out how to remove what we assumed was the upper infant insert padding (around the shoulders and head), but it doesn't come out and makes it really cramped once our test babies were over about 4 months old. Together, those are some big limitations for an infant car seat priced around $250. So what are the other options? If you really like the City Mini GT2 stroller, you can purchase an adapter to make it work with your favorite car seats. For example, there's an adapter for the Britax B-Safe, the Chicco KeyFit 30/35 or Fit2, the Peg Perego Primo Viaggio, and the Graco SnugRide Click Connect models ( see all their adapters here ). That was smart of Baby Jogger, to provide so many adapters to make it possible for parents to purchase one of the best strollers on the market (the City Mini GT2) and couple it with their favorite car seat (which was not likely to be the City GO). That's also one of the reasons we've included this travel system up here on our list, since the City Mini stroller has so many compatibility options that make it a potentially winning situation for picky parents who want to mix and match! 8. Graco Modes Nest Travel System.

We love the Graco Snugride car seats, which offer serious bang for the buck, with high-quality materials, comfort, versatility, and safety at a very reasonable price point. What Graco was lacking, however, was a high-end stroller to match the Snugride car seats. Well, enter the new lineup of Graco Modes travel systems! From the fewest to most features, they have the Modes Element, Modes Pramette, and Modes Nest. The Modes Nest system adds the Snugride 35 Lite Elite model (rather than the DLX or LX), a height-adjustable seat, an expandable storage basket, and a self-standing fold. It's the most expensive of the Modes models, coming in at about $399, but we think it's also the most sophisticated and functional of the models. You already know we love the Graco Snugride car seats, and the 35 Lite Elite is no exception. This car seat usually sells for about $170 and is one of Graco's higher-end models, offering Snuglock installation, Simply Safe (front adjust) harness system, side impact protection, and a washable removable cover. It supports babies from 4 pounds up to 35 pounds, or 32" tall, while maintaining a super lightweight build of only 7.2 pounds. The Modes travel system includes not only the car seat but also the base with its 4-position adjustable recline to fit a variety of rear seat inclines. The car seat pops into and out of the stroller using the Snuglock system, which is a simple and easy mechanism.

The stroller has a ton of helpful features, with highlights including a seat that is not only reversible (front- or rear-facing) but can also recline and turn completely into a lay-flat infant bassinet (so you don't need to purchase a separate one!)! One of the most unique aspects of this stroller is that the seat is height adjustable, allowing you to raise the seat up closer to you, or push it down farther away. That simple feature is something we ended up loving during our tests, because it helps suit parents of all arm lengths (maybe not a t-rex, however) and makes it possible to easily pop a pacifier back in, or even bottle feed your baby while strolling. Awesome idea, and well executed! The stroller also has a huge storage basket, folds very easily, and we found it highly maneuverable and sturdy. It was smooth over the bumps, nicely sized for doorways and tight turns, and fit readily into the back of a CR-V, Outback, Accord, or RAV4. And bonus points for having a cup holder. Cons? Well, attaching the car seat and toddler seat wasn't entirely confidence-inspiring. Sometimes we thought we heard an audible click but it wasn't actually attached, so you need to double-check that things are lined up appropriately. Also, assembly took about 45 minutes and seemed needlessly complex! Other than those minor gripes, we love this new addition to our list and think it's an awesome solution for parents looking for Snugride travel system! 9. Maxi-Cosi Zelia Travel System.

Maxi-Cosi, as the name suggests, makes some of the coziest baby products on the market, including their adorable and comfy infant car seats (the Maxi Cosi Mico Max) and the super versatile and luxurious convertible car seat (the Maxi Cosi Magellan Max). But comfort is not the only thing they do right. Their products are well-made, high quality, safe, and versatile; this Zelia travel system is no exception. While the Maxi Cosi Mico infant car seat is on our best infant car seat list, it isn't near the top of our list. That's mostly because we found things a little finicky, cumbersome, and too pricey for our tastes. But to be fair, it's in the top 10 for the year, making it a really great option. It supports babies from 4 to 30 pounds (or up to 32" tall), has big inflated side impact protection, EPP energy-absorbing foam, and it's actually pretty lightweight given its relatively bulky footprint (mostly in its width). While the canopy of the car seat isn't great, the canopy of the Maxi Cosi stroller is pretty impressive.

In fact, there are a ton of things that are really impressive about this stroller. First, the seat can be folded down into a lay-flat carriage bassinet for your baby. Second, the seat is completely reversible so your baby can face forward or backward. Third, it supports babies as small as 5 pounds and kiddos up to 50 pounds, which is a pretty respectable range. It also has a cup holder, a huge canopy (did we say that already!?), a peek-a-boo window, a well-sized storage bin, one-handed folding, a bumper bar, and a decent recline. There were some limitations, however. First, it was a bit of a pain getting the car seat to attach and detach from the stroller because it requires really good hand-eye coordination to attach it, and then two hands to detach it from each side. Second, it was nice that it was a little lighter weight than some others on this list, but it also didn't feel as sturdy or well-constructed as others. And that's unfortunate because it's about $400 for the travel system, and that's a lot to cough up. Interested? Check out the Maxi Cosi Zelia Travel System here .

10. Nuna Mixx and Pipa Travel System.

Nuna makes several very high-quality strollers and travel systems, all of which are compatible with the popular Nuna Pipa infant car seat (the Pipa, Pipa Lite, and Pipa Lite LX). These include the Nuna Demi Grow stroller, Nuna TRIV stroller, Nuna Mixx, Nuna Pepp, and Nuna Tavo. Most of these strollers are available as travel systems, simply combining the sale of a Nuna stroller with one of the Nuna Pipa models. Typically the Nuna Pipa is about $300 if purchased alone, the Nuna Pipa Lite is about $350, and the Nuna Pipa Lite LX is about $399. Note that the Lite versions need the base, while the non-Lite version can be installed in a vehicle without a base. When you purchase a Nuna travel system that combines one of these car seats with a stroller, you end up spending only a little bit less than you would be purchasing them separately. For instance, the Nuna Mixx stroller costs about $650 alone, but when combined with the Pipa Lite LX it's about $999, saving you about $50. We got our hands on the TRIV, Mixx, and Tavo for testing, and we were impressed with the quality of all of them. Nuna makes high-end products that are simple, stylish, lightweight, and functional. So while we're including the Mixx travel system here, realize that you'll be very happy with any of these options - this just happens to be the model we fell in love with! So what's to love? Let's start with features. The Pipa Lite LX supports babies from 4 up to 32 pounds (or 32" tall), and only weighs 8 pounds without the base (the base is about 14 pounds and includes a load leg). The car seat is Greenguard Gold certified and contains no fire retardant chemicals. It has an awesome "dream drape" canopy that provides full UPF 50+ coverage from the elements (with a peek-a-boo window), side-impact protection, a base crumple zone, included infant insert, FAA certified for air travel, and modern quick-connect LATCH. What it doesn't have is a no-rethread harness, anti-rebound bar, or steel-reinforced frame.

Regarding the stroller, its integrated toddler seat supports up to 50 pounds while weighing a hefty 27 pounds. But that weight brings some awesome features, like a true lay-flat sleeping recline (with 5 positions), a no-rethread harness, a super intuitive and easy one-handed fold, very high quality and plush padding and fabrics (including a removable and washable seat liner that is insanely comfy, revealing a high airflow mesh back), four-wheel suspension, an amazing full-coverage canopy, reversible seat, adjustable handlebars, pop-up footrest and boot cover, an included Mixx ring adapter (that allows one-handed attachment of any Pipa car seat), and super easy fold and unfold. In our testing, we fell in love with the smoothness and maneuverability of this stroller, which were both fantastic. We also think it's the most comfortable stroller we've ever tested, and that's saying a lot! We loved the magnetic canopy extension (the dream drape), the no-rethread harness height adjustment (which is really rare), and the fact that the seat can be converted from a thick and warm pad to a relatively minimalist and high airflow mesh seat back. Together, the Nuna Pipa and Mixx make great partners, and you can also purchase the Nuna Mixx bassinet to attach for newborns, infants, and hopefully longer naps! That's another $150. To be honest, we're not in love with the Nuna Pipa in general, we think for the price it's rather limited in features while prioritizing style and weight savings. But the stroller more than compensates for those limitations, with its comfort, maneuverability, and style. We think it's an excellent stroller, making this a pretty darn good travel system overall. Limitations of the stroller include no cup holders or storage pockets for parents, no ability to expand to two children (check out the awesome Nuna Demi Grow for that), and a somewhat limited-size storage bin. Overall, if you're sold on the Nuna Pipa already, this is a great way to integrate it with a super high-quality, stylish, and surprisingly functional stroller. 11. Chicco Viaro Travel System.

This Chicco Viaro baby travel system is very similar to the Chicco Bravo (above) in a few ways. First, it includes the top-rated Chicco KeyFit 30 or 35 infant car seat, which is a truly fantastic infant car seat with a great reputation and track-record for safety, comfort, versatility, ease of use, and style. You can't go wrong with the KeyFit 30, making this automatically a great option for discerning parents. Second, it includes a quality stroller that uses a lightweight aluminum frame, a 3-wheel design, and many features (a great storage basket, one-handed fold, weight limit of 50 pounds, etc) that will sound very familiar with the Chicco Bravo. What are the differences between the Chicco Bravo and Chicco Viaro? The Viaro uses a 3-wheel design while the Bravo uses a 4-wheel design, which makes for some differences in stability and maneuverability: the Bravo is a bit more stable, while the Viaro is a bit more maneuverable. Another difference is that the Bravo uses an awesome adjustable-height handlebar that makes it suitable for both shorter and taller parents, whereas the Viaro's handlebar is not adjustable.

In our testing, the height was fine for average-height parents, but taller parents or grandparents (over about 6 feet) might get a sore back and shoulders after pushing this stroller. The Viaro also isn't as versatile in its settings - the Bravo lets you reconfigure the seat and canopy to remove elements to shave off weight and basically allows you to use it as a car seat stroller frame without all the added bulk and weight. But the Viaro doesn't let you reconfigure in this way. There are also some other differences worth considering: the Bravo's canopy is bigger, its rear brake is more substantial, and it has a four-wheel suspension (the Viaro is only front suspension). How about some benefits of the Viaro: it has a great snack and bottle tray for your toddler or big kid, and it is a bit lighter (18 versus 23 pounds). In our testing, we loved that the Viaro was easy to maneuver, relatively simple and lightweight, and easily fit the KeyFit (and Fit2) car seat. We found some minor annoyances such as the fact that it doesn't lock into a folded position, and the rear brakes were individually locked as opposed to a yoked locking system. So overall, the Viaro generally pales in comparison to the Bravo. But if you're looking for a relatively simple and more cost-effective travel system that works perfectly with the KeyFit 30, this could be a great option for you. Interested? 12. Graco FastAction Fold Travel System.

Graco is famous for its expansive line of SnugRide Click Connect infant car seats. In fact, the assortment of SnugRide car seats is so expansive that it confuses the heck out of parents, so much so that we created our SnugRide buying guide to help clarify the features and cost of each model. This Graco travel system includes the SnugRide Click Connect 35, which is the most basic of the SnugRide car seats. Let's start with what it has: a broad weight range from 4 to 35 pounds (or up to 32" tall), a narrow (just over 18" wide) and lightweight (7.5 pounds without the base) shell, 6 recline positions, side-impact protection, energy-absorbing foam, the Click Connect system that makes it super easy to snap into and out of compatible Graco strollers, and it's FAA approved for air travel (just like all of the car seats on this list). Now let's consider some of this car seat's limitations: the harness requires rethreading from the rear for height adjustment, it uses old-style hook LATCH connectors, it doesn't have the rapid remove cover, nor does it have the True Shield or Safety Surround side impact protection. As we said, it's a pretty basic car seat. Some minor annoyances with it include the smaller-than-ideal canopy, the somewhat flimsy padding and infant insert, and the handlebars requiring two hands to adjust. So you're getting an overall very basic car seat that usually sells for around $130. Now for the stroller.

This thing is very heavy and sturdy, coming in at a hefty 30 pounds that rivals even some of the biggest double strollers! But we do admit that while all that weight makes it cumbersome to lug around, it actually makes it feel very firmly planted on the ground, which is a nice feeling. It has pretty large diameter wheels, and the front wheel can be locked out for jogging. We love the fact that it has two cup holders for parents, a tray for your cell phone (though it's a little small for some newer devices), and a little compartment for holding keys and anything else you can squeeze in there. Your child has a pretty similar bumper bar and tray, also with two cup holders and a little tray in the center. The best part of that is you can open one side of it and swing it out of the way, which makes it much easier to pull toddlers in and out of the stroller. You can also remove that bumper bar entirely, but that makes it impossible to attach the car seat since it's part of the Click Connect attachment. It has a good-sized storage bin on the bottom, folds easily with one hand (though it's super heavy), reclines reasonably well (but nowhere near lay-flat, only about 45 degrees), and it supports kids up to about 50 pounds. Not bad for a stroller that amounts to only about $160. Cons? Well, in addition to being excessively heavy, it doesn't fold down into a very compact package. You need to have big biceps to lift it, and a big vehicle to fit this in, and that's not helped by the fact that the rear wheels are so big and don't quickly detach like some other models. And frankly, it's not so easy on the eyes - it doesn't look anywhere near as nice as the $90 more Evenflo. So overall, you're getting a jogging travel system for less than $300, which is about half the price of the BOB jogger (above). So if you're looking for a jogger travel system for a reasonable price, this could be a great option. Interested? Check out the Graco FastAction Travel System here .

14. Baby Trend Expedition Jogger Travel System.

If you're looking for the cheapest jogging travel system with a decent quality jogging stroller and a super basic car seat, this might be a great option for you. This Baby Trend travel system screams basic, and the low (about $199) price tag is evidence of that. Starting with the stroller, this travel system uses the Expedition Jogging Stroller, which is down near the bottom of our best jogging strollers list. It's not bad, it's not great, but it really is a sweet deal for parents looking for a basic jogging stroller. There are some impressive things going on here: it has very large diameter rubber pneumatic tires that are 16" (front) and 12" (rear) in diameter, which is actually quite large and that makes it great at absorbing small and moderate bumps, and going over cracks and gaps in the sidewalk without any issues. It also has cup holders and a small cubby for phones and keys, comfortable handlebars, a decently-sized lower storage bin, and a reclining seat (but doesn't go anywhere near lay-flat). Those big wheels make for superior comfort and maneuverability, especially impressive for a stroller at this price. There is no front suspension, however, which makes it a bit more jarring over the bumps than most other options on this list. It also doesn't have adjustable handlebars for taller parents, and the seating surface doesn't feel anywhere near as comfortable as other options on this list. Folding it up, it folds into a decent footprint, but it's still quite large with those hulking wheels popping out from the sides.

Now for the car seat, which is the Baby Trend EZ Flex-Loc infant car seat, which typically sells for around $110 or so. That low price always means limited features. It supports babies from 5 to only 30 pounds, and only up to 30" tall. So that's a pretty limited range of height and weight for an infant car seat, making the transition to a convertible car seat happen pretty early for many parents. But to be fair, most toddlers will be itching to get out of this seat anyway, given that it's relatively sparse in its padding and comfort features. It does have side-impact protection and energy-absorbing foam, an infant insert, and a surprisingly comfortable handlebar for carrying. The seat itself is also pretty lightweight and snaps into and out of the stroller with ease and convenience. So that's all good. So overall, this Baby Trend travel system is the most inexpensive travel system on our list, and it shows in many ways. But it might be sufficient for parents looking to save some cash and get a pretty decent jogging stroller and a super basic infant car seat. Interested? The Nuna Mixx Next is the brand’s updated all-terrain stroller, designed to handle the curbs and narrow sidewalks of the city, as well as longer walks around the park on the weekend. It’s got some stand-out features that make it a great choice for new parents, or anyone shopping for a single stroller — the secure snap that keeps the stroller folded together is genius, and makes leaving the stroller folded in the boot or hallway easier.

But how does it compare to some of the other best strollers on the market, and who should choose this stroller over the likes of the Bugaboo Fox 5 or the iCandy Peach 7 ? To find out more, we put the Nuna Mixx Next through several different tests to look at the build quality and maneuverability on different terrains. I wanted to see how easy it was to get the stroller in and out of my car boot, on and off the bus, and around a muddy dog walk. Read my full Nuna Mixx Next review below to find out more.

Nuna MIXX Next review: Price and availability

The Nuna Mixx Next is one of the most affordable all-terrain strollers in our test. You can buy the chassis and seat for $800/£660, which makes it a lot more affordable than some of the other options on the market. If you have a younger baby, you’ll need to also purchase the Nuna carrycot for an additional $200/£200. 

The Nuna Mixx Next stroller comes in several different colorways to suit every parent’s style — all of the color varieties have the same luxury vegan leather-look brown handle and child armbar. At the time of writing, the pushchair comes in six different colors. During testing, I used the Caviar, or black stroller. 

Nuna MIXX Next review: Design and key features 

I’ll start with how simple the Nuna Mixx Next was to put together, as this is a job you’ll inevitably be doing while pregnant, or with a toddler in tow. The Nuna Mixx Next was one of the easiest strollers on test to build — in fact, the entire build took around 15 minutes, and unlike some of the other buggies on test, I didn’t need to watch a YouTube video to ensure I was following the steps in the right order. The instructions were super-clear and made it easy to slot the wheels into place and build the seat. 

Unlike other strollers on test, I didn’t test the carrycot with the Nuna Mixx Next, only the chassis and seat. The carrycot comes separately, as mentioned above, and can easily be clicked onto the chassis. The carrycot folds flat, which is a clever design, especially if you’re short on boot space, and can be used for overnight sleeping if you’re traveling to visit relatives. 

Once constructed, the pushchair felt sturdy and I was impressed with the quality of the fabrics, which look built to last. I liked how even when folded, the fabric of the seat and the leatherette handlebars weren’t resting on the ground, minimizing scuffs and muddy marks on the seat. 

Key design features 

But what makes the Nuna Mixx Next stand out from the crowd? As mentioned above, I loved how easy it was to fold and unfold this pushchair — in fact, it was one of my favorites on test, despite not being the lightest stroller to lift in and out of the car. Compared to the original Nuna Mixx stroller, with the Nuna Mixx Next, released in 2020, Nuna has added something called a MagneTech Secure Snap — this is a magnetic buckle that automatically locks the pushchair in place when folded, allowing you to lift it easily into the car, or stand it on it’s side in your hallway without it unfolding and falling. It’s genius and something I wish other brands would adopt. 

On first impression, I thought this stroller was taller than others on test, but this is down to the seat sitting high on the frame, lifting your little one higher. The seat can be turned inwards or forward facing and has five recline settings, which can be adjusted with one hand. The higher seat also means the stroller can double as a highchair when out and about. The iCandy Peach 7 has a similar feature, although lifting the seat requires extra adaptors, which you don't need with the Nuna Mixx Next. 

The tires of the Nuna Mixx Next are tough and designed to cope with multiple terrains. They are foam-filled to minimize punctures if you’re going off-road. There’s also a large UPF 50+ sun canopy that extends down over the child for nap times, with a flip-out eyeshade when the sun is shining, ventilation windows, and a peep window so you can check on your tot when on the move. 

Finally, I appreciated the large two-compartment basket, which has a secret zipped pocket. While I probably wouldn’t zip my phone into the basket of my stroller, it’s a handy place to store items you don’t want rattling around in the basket. There’s also a zipped pocket on the back of the seat which does fit your phone and keys, should you wish. 

Nuna MIXX Next review: Performance 

I tested all of the strollers in our best stroller test using different weights to test maneuverability as your child grows, as well as with my 21-pound nephew. I set up cones to imitate getting around tight corners in the supermarket and went to various locations to test the Nuna Mixx Next on hills, mud, and gravel. 

I was impressed with the maneuverability of the Nuna Mixx Next, which handled tight turns well. It wasn’t quite as smooth on uneven ground as the Bugaboo Fox 5 was, but I never had any issue with the wheels getting stuck on muddy woodland walks, or being unable to handle sand on the beach. The stroller didn’t feel particularly wide, especially due to its all-terrain tires, and I didn’t struggle to get it through smaller spaces. 

Compared to the brake on the iCandy Peach 7, which wasn’t sandal-friendly, the large break on the Nuna Mixx Next was a joy to use, and easily clicked on and off with the touch of a button. I didn’t need to worry about accidentally leaving the stroller unlocked, as it was easy to see at a glance that it was. 

I also liked the little extras the stroller came with — there’s an all-season seat, that is designed to keep the baby cosy in the winter, but also convert to mesh in the summer. The stroller also came with a rain cover for when the weather changes.

The only downside I found when testing the stroller was that the footrest plastic wasn’t particularly sturdy, especially compared to some of the others in the test. I found that wasn’t anywhere obvious for a toddler to rest their legs, especially when lying flat in the stroller, and I wondered how comfortable they’d be during longer naps without a sturdy foot rest.

Nuna MIXX Next review: Verdict

The Nuna Mixx Next is a great, affordable, all-terrain stroller for those who want to navigate around different surfaces with ease. It feels luxurious, and the huge basket and lockable fold really stand out from some of the other buggies on test. 

That said, if you have a taller toddler, or a toddler who likes to nap in the stroller, this might not be the best for you, as the lack of footrest might be an issue. From birth and for the first few years, however, this is a good all-rounder, with a quality feel and a smooth, comfortable ride.

Nuna PIPA urbn Rear-Facing Only Infant Seat Review

I’m here to tell you today that the Nuna PIPA urbn is THE most groundbreaking, game-changing, revolutionary seat that I’ve seen on the market since I started in this field almost 9 years ago. Why? The installation is virtually error-proof. It really is. Just click on the pipaFIX™ rigid LATCH, adjust the angle, and you’re set. When it’s installed with LATCH, there is zero pulling or tightening needed. And of course, rigid LATCH is a safety feature in and of itself, as it limits side to side movement and downward rotation of the seat and eliminates the extra movement that occurs with even the tightest LATCH strap stretching in a collision.

The PIPA urbn is not compatible with any Nuna base and does not have its own base, but I wouldn’t consider that to be a drawback, as in most vehicles it will take the same amount of time to install it with the rigid LATCH as it would to click it onto a base. Since it does not use a base, that’s also one less point of possible error or failure.

A correct installation is a safe installation. Nuna has made it possible to easily install a car seat in about three seconds with very, very little chance of error. We’ll go through the particulars in this review, but we need to start off by commending them for this design.

The PIPA urbn is marketed to any parent or caregiver who needs to be able to take a seat in and out easily (think: those without their own vehicles, urban families who frequently use rideshare or taxis, parents who switch seats around often for carpool, etc.) but I’d recommend it to anyone who has the budget for it and desires an installation that leaves virtually no room for error.

INSTALLATION COMMENTS:

Installation with LATCH:

There’s a current style of expressing something which contains a short statement, followed by “that’s it”, or “send tweet”.  That type of language comes to mind here. “Easiest installation of any seat. Send tweet.” The installation of the PIPA urbn just could not be easier.

Basically, if you are aware that the vehicle you’re in has LATCH (virtually every car in America of model year 2003 or later, most cars in Western Europe, and many vehicles in other parts of the globe), and you intend to install the urbn with LATCH, the installation is error-proof in many vehicles. As mentioned above, this statement is not made lightly.

The LATCH installation has two, maybe three steps. Connect the rigid LATCH connectors to the lower anchors. Push them on so the little window turns green. Check the level line, and pull the end of the seat up or down if necessary to get the line level. Done.

A recline foot comes down automatically when the LATCH is extended, and the seat may also be manually manipulated if needed to achieve the correct angle. A line on the side must be level with the ground; there is no bubble.

A gap between the car seat and the seat back is permitted. This may seem disconcerting to some caregivers, but Nuna has assured us that the seat still passes testing this way. Indeed, even if you try to flip the back end of the seat upwards, it can only be raised an inch or two. Unlike a typical infant carrier installed without a base using a seatbelt, the innovative LATCH design prevents the seat from flipping toward the back of the vehicle.

To release the LATCH, squeeze the handle on the back of the seat right under the canopy. I found this step easier than releasing a seat from the base!

Difficult vehicles: 

As with any child safety seat, there are always going to be difficult or impossible vehicles. I did encounter two unique issues when I tried the PIPA urbn in different vehicles. It’s important to note that neither of these issues precludes a correct installation, as the seat may still be installed with the seatbelt.

My Subaru Forester has center LATCH. This is usually not that useful, since the middle lower anchor is shared with the passenger side position, and the passenger side buckle cannot be used if the center LATCH is in use. Nevertheless, I decided to give the PIPA urbn a try in the center. I found an issue doing this, as the urbn was too reclined. I was unable to make it more upright, because I had to angle it reclined in the first place to connect the LATCH, and then the middle seat vertical bolster prevented me from moving the foot end downward. However, I contacted Nuna, who checked the angle of my install and said it was acceptable in my particular situation. We encourage anyone to contact Nuna for guidance if they are unable to get the level line level.

The other vehicle that presented difficulty was my friend’s previous generation 2017 Toyota Sienna. This car has long been the nemesis of many car seats, as the captains chairs are extremely sloped and the lower anchors are far inside the seat bight (seat crack). Nuna approved the following method when we contacted them for this particular situation.  If you have a similar issue, please contact Nuna directly to see if this or another option may help with installation:

• Recline the vehicle seat
• Attach the PIPA urbn rigid latch
• Adjust the urbn to the correct angle using the level line
• Put the vehicle seatback upright. It may be necessary to apply pressure from behind the seat to make it upright.

It’s important to note that the Sienna was redesigned for the 2021 model year, and the newer ones do not have this issue.

LATCH guides:

What if you can’t find the lower anchors, or you’re having trouble manipulating the rigid LATCH connector so that it’s in the right place to click on to the lower anchor? Nuna has solved this problem as well.

Nuna has always included LATCH guides with their rigid LATCH bases. To be honest, I’d never found these particularly easy to use. The LATCH guide is a square plastic casing that exposes the lower anchor and makes it easier to attach the rigid LATCH connector to it. By the time I was done getting the LATCH guide situated, I could have used my hand to guide the rigid LATCH connector onto the lower anchor.

But no more! Nuna has included a newly designed LATCH guide with the PIPA urbn, and in a word, it’s fabulous. It has a serrated type of design, where you put the end of it anywhere near the lower anchor, and push. It situates itself on the lower anchor bar, and the rigid LATCH connector will now be lined up perfectly when you attempt to attach it. This is VERY handy in some vehicles whose lower anchors are hidden behind fabric and are difficult to access with one hand.

It’s important to note that in most newer vehicles, the lower anchors are either already encased in plastic, or they’re much nearer to the “surface” and not buried in the seat crack. However, especially where the PIPA urbn will come in so handy for travel, we’d recommend having a set of the LATCH guides on hand, as a cab or lyft/uber could very easily be an older model car.

I was trying to think of how to best keep track of the LATCH guides. A “mommy hook” type of carabiner or one of those bracelet-sized key rings would probably work well, perhaps looped around a diaper bag handle.

Installation with seatbelt:

The PIPA urbn features European belt routing.  This type of routing is recommended but not required; standard or “American” routing is allowed. Nuna also allows both seatbelt and rigid LATCH together.  I tried European routing in my vehicle, a 2021 Subaru Forester, and it was a breeze. Because the PIPA urbn shell is about an inch shorter than the shell of the other PIPAs, it was even easier to wrap the belt around the back of the seat.

Space-saving design

Because it does not have a base, the PIPA urbn will save front to back space in many cars. I compared it with the Nuna PIPA lite rx, and depending on the placement of the lower anchors in the vehicle, there will be up to 3″ of space saved. (If the lower anchors are very prominent, then the PIPA urbn will not be flush against the vehicle seat as mentioned above, and less space will be saved.) Also, as the PIPA urbn is lower to the vehicle seat, it will fit better against the back of the front seat, since many front seats have a natural recline.

The urbn would also be an excellent choice for two-door vehicles or sportscars where front to back space is at a premium.

FIT TO CHILD COMMENTS:

I noticed right away that the lowest slots on the urbn are very, very low. This is terrific, as the straps need to be coming out of the seat from at or below the shoulders. So (so so so) many seat manufacturers casually write “4 lbs” or “5 lbs” as the minimum weight for a car seat, yet the lowest strap slot or headrest position is way above the shoulders of a 4- or 5-lb baby.  This is a sore point for me personally, as my oldest child (who just turned 10!) was born at 4 lbs and fit almost none of the baby gear we got for her. Do better, car seat manufacturers – and Nuna has.

On the other end of the spectrum, however, the PIPA urbn is outgrown at 22 lbs. This means that some babies who would otherwise get to a year or more in an infant seat may not be able to in the urbn. 22 lbs is the 50th percentile for an 11 month baby boy and a 12 month baby girl. It’s not possible during pregnancy or at birth (when the seat is purchased) to know exactly where on the growth curve a child will fall, but those who purchase this seat do need to be prepared for the fact that they may need to move to a larger infant seat or to a convertible seat before the child’s first birthday.

The shell height of the urbn is 18 inches, one inch shorter than the other PIPAs at the torso. The urbn is outgrown when baby is 29 inches tall, head to toe. The urbn does follow the 1″ rule, meaning it’s outgrown when the baby’s head is 1 inch from the top.

These boy/girl twins are a week old and were born at 37 weeks. The one in the yellow shirt weighs about 5 lbs, and the one in the white shirt weighs just over 6 lbs. Their fit was stellar in the urbn. The straps came up and over the shoulders, and the head was positioned well. I took out the extra head insert as I felt it was pushing the chin down a bit. The low birthweight pillow is inside the bottom insert. I took off the strap covers as I often do for newborns, as they can get in the way of achieving the correct fit and tightness on such tiny shoulders.

This baby is exactly 3 months. She weighs 13 lbs, so we had to take out the bottom insert. She fit very well in the urbn with lots of room to g row.

This baby is 9 months old. He’s 21 lbs and 28″ tall. He also has just over an inch left above his head in the seat. In other words, he’s close to outgrowing the seat by weight, height and torso height. However, growth does slow down as the baby approaches a year; if he stays on the same growth curve, he won’t outgrow the seat until about 11 months.

This baby is one week shy of his first birthday. He’s 20 lbs and 28 inches tall, and he has a little bit over an inch left above his head in the seat.  We see that babies come in all shapes and sizes!  He’s 3 months older than the baby above, yet just about the same size.

Infant inserts:

The PIPA urbn features a head insert and an additional head insert that goes over the first one. I’ve never been a fan of extra head inserts. In my experience, they push the head too far forward and the chin down. Although these head inserts are not that padded internally, I did find that it pushed the chin down slightly on the newborns I put in the seat. The good news is that neither head insert is required.

The bottom insert contains a low birthweight pillow inside it, similar to almost every other PIPA model. (Trivia question – which one is the exception?)  Both the low birthweight pillow as well as the bottom insert must be removed once the child reaches 11 lbs. This is a change from the other PIPA models, where the insert itself can stay in past 11 pounds without the pillow. The good news is that because the lowest slots are so low on the urbn and the crotch buckle so close, an 11 pound baby will have no trouble at all fitting the seat without the bottom insert.

I did have a tiny bit of trouble putting the pillow back into the bottom insert, as it has “legs” that need to go on either side of the crotch buckle slot. Be sure that the entire leg is pulled flat into the insert.

FAA APPROVAL/LIFESPAN/CRASH GUIDELINES:

• FAA certified for use on airplanes (would be installed with the airplane lap belt, not LATCH)
• 7 year lifespan before expiration
• May be re-used after a minor crash according to NHTSA guidelines; see manual for specific criteria

STROLLER COMPATIBILITY:

The PIPA urbn is sold only as a travel system with either the Nuna mixx next, Nuna triv next or Nuna trvl strollers. However, it is also compatible with every Nuna stroller to which car seats attach, as well as any stroller which uses the Maxi Cosi adapters or the Nuna ring adapter. We do need to add that occasionally, a stroller manufacturer will assert that a certain car seat is not compatible even though it does fit on the adapter. These statements are important; it could be that due to the exact shape of the car seat handle, a risk of finger entrapment occurs due to the space between the handle and the stroller frame. Since the PIPA urbn is brand new, this type of testing has not been done yet on many non-Nuna strollers.

We do not generally include strollers in car seat reviews, but since the trvl was provided to us with the PIPA urbn, I’d like to say a few words about it.  My son is 5 years old, 40 inches and 34 pounds. I took him for a walk of almost a mile in the trvl. I wasn’t sure what to expect, as our regular stroller has larger air tires and a larger seat. My son loved the trvl and said he found it very comfortable. The suspension gave it a very smooth push, even with a toddler in the seat. We did have to go across some gravel to get to my friend’s yard, and it did not do well in that respect. (However, that’s not the intended use of this stroller.) I did find the handle a bit high, but I’m only 5’2″. Most should be fine with it. Last of all, the fold is SO quick and easy – making it a terrific choice to pair with such a light portable car seat.

NUNA PIPA URBN ADVANTAGES:

• Fantastic preemie and small infant fit
• 3-second error-proof LATCH installation
• Saves space front to back over seats used with a base
• Excellent for car-free families, rideshares, travel or situations where a car seat needs to be taken in and out frequently
• Excellent for caregivers with limited mobility or who may have difficulty installing conventional seats

NUNA PIPA URBN DISADVANTAGES:

(In fairness, these may not be a problem for everyone, but I list some potential disadvantages that may be an issue for some parents):

• Nuna PIPA urbn is sold only as a travel system; some parents and caregivers may already have a stroller or may want a different one
• Outgrown at 22 lbs. This is fine for many but will be outgrown before 1 year by larger babies.
• Slots are narrowly set and may be tight on the neck of some larger babies

BASIC INFANT SEAT SAFETY

Infant seats are so commonplace that parents often copy what other parents are doing with their seats. I’ve already covered some of the basics above regarding fit to your vehicle and child. So what do you see out and about that you shouldn’t copy yourself?

• DO NOT put the carrier on top of a shopping cart
• Some parents unbuckle the crotch buckles when in a store or will only buckle the chest clip when buckling in baby, but that piece of plastic is not designed to withstand crash forces. Babies can also wiggle down in the seat and strangle on the chest clip.
• Studies have shown that babies desat, or have a reduction in oxygen, when they sleep for too long in infant seats.
• Remember that the rear-facing only infant carseat is a  safety device , not a safe sleeping space
• Consider a bassinet stroller for longer walks or days out of the house.

THE BOTTOM LINE:

The PIPA urbn is THE easiest installation of any seat on the market right now, and it has a fantastic newborn fit. If you’re reading this because you’re considering getting one – get it. It’s certainly not within everyone’s budget, and it’s only sold as a travel system. But for those for whom it’s a viable option, it provides an exceptionally easy installation using the advanced safety feature of rigid LATCH.

If you’re looking for a stroller that will last you from birth right through the toddler years, our Nuna Tavo review might be of use to you. Nuna has a good selection of strollers and travel systems. What makes the Tavo so special? Does it matter that it doesn’t come with a bassinet? And will it work for you as a family?

We’ll be looking at the main features of the Tavo , before going into each feature in detail – including safety, design, ease of use, and any extra nifty features it has. We’ll look at what real families have to say about how the Tavo works for them, as well as considering the pros and cons.

Hopefully, if you’re considering the Tavo for your baby or toddler, this review will help. Let’s start with an overview of what you can expect from this stroller.

The Main Features of Nuna Tavo

The Nuna Tavo is a travel system, designed to be as easy to use as possible. With a one-click, no-adapter car seat attachment function, and one-handed folding, it is really simple to transfer your baby from your car to the stroller (and back again).

Nuna is a brand known for smart designs when it comes to strollers, high chairs, baby seats , and more. Founded in 2007, their focus is to keep their products simple and functional – their strollers are designed with real families in mind.

The Tavo can be used from birth right through to around 5 years (50lbs). Although it doesn’t use a bassinet, it can be put into a completely flat position – meaning you can create a safe, flat area for your smaller baby to sleep in. It’s a travel system designed to be quick to fold and unfold, and it is particularly comfortable for toddlers and older children.

Here’s an overview of what you get with the Tavo:

• Stroller with a soft, comfortable forward-facing seat that can be adjusted for different seasons
• Four different reclining positions, including a truly flat position
• Adaptable sunshade with UPF 50+
• Large storage basket with a zippered pocket for valuables
• Four medium-sized wheels with good suspension

Nuna strollers tend to be pretty stylish, and the Tavo is no exception. It has three main seating positions (with four reclining positions):

• Forward-facing using all-season seat
• Parent facing using a car seat
• Forward-facing fully reclined in the all-season seat

As you can see, the Tavo doesn’t come with a bassinet, and you can’t buy one that fits it separately. It also lacks a parent-facing option using just the seat, which means you won’t be able to face your toddler as you walk – this could be an issue for some parents.

However, it does have a clever lie-flat option, which creates a safe, cozy bassinet-like area for your newborn. This is smart and works very well with the sunshade, which we’ll mention in a minute – using that, you can create a very secure area for your smaller baby to nap in. It’s unusual to find a stroller that truly lies flat, but the Tavo does.

The downside is it isn’t parent facing – but it does have a peekaboo mesh window so you can check on them. If you lack the space in your car or home for a separate bassinet , this could work out very well for your family. With no need for adapters, it’s a good choice if you want to save space (and time).

It looks great. The design of the frame is clean and sleek, like most Nuna strollers, with some parts that are glossy in appearance, which is a nice extra touch. It has a leatherette push bar and comes in three color choices: Aspen (light gray), Caviar (black), and Granite (dark gray).

Comfort and Safety

The Tavo is very comfortable for babies and toddlers. The all-season seat is padded and can be adjusted depending on the season – there is a warm, cozy liner for the colder months, which can be removed in the summer.

The seat has a three or five-point anti-loop harness. It’s roomy, too – perfect for toddlers, and as it lasts up to around five years of age, it suits older children just as much as it suits smaller babies.

There is a UPF 50+ canopy with a retractable flip-out eyeshade – meaning you can still see your baby even while they’re protected from the sun. The sunshade can be attached in lots of different positions and can be unzipped, allowing air to flow through the mesh on very hot days.

This is a real plus point, and it gives you lots of options to keep your baby or toddler safe in the shade – it’s known for being one of the best sunshades on the market. The Tavo can be adjusted as your baby grows into toddlerhood and beyond. The calf rest is adjustable, and there’s a removable liner in the seat to keep smaller babies comfortable.

There is an infant armbar for extra security, but this can be removed if you like. The stroller works nicely with the Nuna toddler tray, which is sold separately. Nuna says that the Tavo uses ‘progressive suspension technology’ – users praise the Tavo for the smooth ride it gives, but the smaller wheels aren’t the best for going over particularly bumpy terrain.

It’s not suitable for jogging, unfortunately – if you want to run with a stroller, you need to find something with better suspension and bigger wheels (check out our round-up of jogging strollers here ).

The push bar is designed to be comfortable to grip, and it’s telescopic, with four positions. All you have to do is pull the buttons on either side of the handle up, and then pull or push the whole thing into position – easy to do on the go if you want to swap pushing duties with someone taller or shorter than you.

The brake on the rear wheel is easy to use – step on the red area to engage the brake, and the green area to enable it to work again. It’s easy to do even in sandals or flip-flops.

The front wheels have a swivel lock, too, so if you’d prefer to lock the front wheels in place, you can easily do that by pulling on the small levers above the front wheels. This is recommended for uneven terrain. Having the option to swivel the front wheels is perfect for navigating through tight spaces, so it’s good to have the choice.

Ease of Use

This is where the Tavo really comes into its own. Firstly, the car seat very simply clicks into place. No adapters required – just click and go. This is really great when you’re out and about with a sleeping newborn.

Secondly, it has a one-handed folding mechanism. To fold it, you simply press the button on the handle and fold it in half – it’s as easy as that. If you need to fold it whilst holding a toddler, you can just about manage it. Once it’s folded, it has a trolley function – so you can wheel it around rather than having to carry it.

If you need to get on and off public transport, whilst holding a child, this could work for you. The wheels come off easily for storage purposes, too, so if you’re stashing it away for a future child, you can store it neatly. However, it’s slightly heavy compared to other strollers. This may not be a problem for you, but it’s something to be aware of if repeated heavy lifting is going to be an issue.

Out of the box, it’s very simple to put it together. Just unfold it, and then click the wheels into place. Plus, the covers can be taken off and washed, which is great.

Extra Features

The Tavo has a very large basket underneath. You can fit a great amount of shopping in there – it’s spacious and has spring-loaded edges.

This means if you need to squash the edges a little to fit large items in, the basket won’t lose its shape. It also has a zip-fastened smaller section to keep your valuables safe. If you want to go grocery shopping on foot, the Tavo could work really well for you.

It does lack any extras, like a parent console or a toddler tray – these can be purchased separately. It also lacks a rain cover – this needs to be bought separately. That bumps up the cost slightly, as it costs around $40 to buy the rain cover designed specifically for it.

If you do have the money to spring on extras, the rain cover is a must if you live in an area prone to rain, but the toddler tray is a good investment too – it’s good to have a snack tray that is designed to clip on and off easily, to keep your child occupied on longer journeys. A universal stroller organizer can be bought online for a fairly low cost, but you might find the large basket with the zippered section is enough for you.

Reviews and Awards

The Tavo hasn’t won any awards at the time of writing. Reviews are very positive, however. The main thing that parents love is how easy it is to use – the one-handed folding mechanism is really useful, as well as the one-click car seat function – as well as the flexibility when it comes to the sunshade.

The suspension is good, and the wheels are decent enough for most sidewalks. The only downside seems to be the fact that it isn’t parent facing for toddlers, and it is on the heavier side.

Pros and Cons

Here’s an overview of the pros and cons:

• The sunshade is well designed
• The seat is comfortable and lies truly flat
• Great suspension
• On the heavier side
• Doesn’t include any accessories like a rain cover

No, this model has never been recalled. Of course, this is possible in a lot of places and not only in the online poki games, as it can become popular in movies, music, etc.

Conclusion – is the Tavo Worth It?

We would recommend the Nuna Tavo for:

• Families expecting a new baby
• Families wanting a stroller that will last them a long time for use by subsequent children
• Families with limited storage space/car space
• Those wanting a simple-to-use stroller that works with a compatible car seat

The great thing about the Tavo is that the quality of the materials means it will last for a long time. It also doesn’t require a bassinet – these can take up a lot of room, so if you’re tight for space, you might be tempted by this. Plus, you don’t have to mess around with adapters – just click the car seat in and go.

We wouldn’t recommend it for those wanting to go jogging or walking on uneven terrain – the suspension and tires simply aren’t designed for that.

We’d also suggest that, if you already have a toddler and you’re not planning on using it for another child in the future, you might be better off choosing another model that is aimed just for toddlers – you can find a much cheaper option out there than the Tavo in that situation (like the Pepp Next , also by Nuna, which folds up very small and is around a hundred dollars cheaper than the Tavo).

It’s also worth remembering that there is no parent-facing option for older babies and toddlers. It’s a shame because many parents love the eye contact and time to talk to their children as they walk – with many strollers having this option now, it might well be a sticking point for you.

All in all, the Nuna Tavo is a solid travel system and is designed to be easy to use – if that’s what you’re after, you might find that it’s the perfect fit for your family.

Rachel: "The pipa urbn, is a lot more lightweight car seat, making it A LOT easier to carry baby around without the pushchair. The dream drape allows baby to sleep longer as it gives darkness and some sound proofing from surrounding noise. The canopy seems slightly longer giving full shade from the sun unlike other car seats. Both the release buttons for the ISOFIX and pushchair are effortless. The built in ISOFIX is great creating more space in the back of the car."

Helena: "This portable car seat feels much more secure and safe than other removable car seats we've used."

Would you recommend this product to other parents?

Laura: "I would 10000% recommend to other parents. The seat itself is so comfy and my baby seemed to really enjoy being in it (as she fell straight to sleep). It's so lightweight, which I think when you're recovering from childbirth is something us mums really need if we have to nip out to appointments etc."

Tyler: "I would 100% recommend the PIPA urbn car seat to other parents, the car seat was overall so simple to use. I didn’t have any concerns at all when using it. If parents are wanting an easy car seat to attach without the hassle of an ISOFIX base then this is the seat!"

How do you think the integrated Isofix could benefit parents?

Lois: "Really easy to use and to transfer in between cars and makes it feel more secure. Think it’s a really good idea having it integrated."

Olivia: "Absolutely, we often go out with grandparents and friends, it is helpful to car share rather than go in separate cars."

Laura: "The integrated isofix is absolutely amazing and something I feel all car seats should have. There's no bulky base/support leg to battle with which is impossible to carry around and move from car to car. For me, it means I can easily pop the car seat into my partners car or even my parents without a huge faff (which we have with our other isofix seat). Although you can use the seatbelt method, the isofix is just one little push and click in and you're done and is therefore so much quicker and easier to install in different cars. But it's also great that if a car doesn't have isofix, you can still use the belt path."

How easy was the product to use?

Tyler: "The PIPA urbn car seat was incredibly easy to use due to its main feature of the built in isofix points. The PIPA urbn took seconds to plug into the car which made life so much easier. The car seat also released from the isofix points with one push of a button which was so simple! The 3 point connection harness was also so simple to connect together and pull tight."

Laura: "The product was so easy to use. I gave the mini manual a check over, but on the whole it's so straight forward I don't think you'd need any help to use the seat. I worked the straps out pretty quick (i.e. finding the release button) so that was easy. Then it was just the isofix installation which is super easy. The only thing I may need some help on is when I need to rethread the straps to the next set of holes, but I'm sure I can find that online."

And for folks looking for a versatile mode of transportation, the Nuna MIXX Next is hard to beat. In fact, it was voted the overall best stroller in our latest Best of The Bump awards programme .

To get a clear picture of how this stroller actually works for families, we asked a mom of one to test it out and tell us what she thought. Below, find her honest review—plus pros and cons to consider, technical specs and additional input from the editorial team and members of The Bump community.

How We The Tested Nuna MIXX Next Stroller

To find out how the Nuna MIXX Next stroller performed in a real family setting, we took the following steps:

• Enlisted the help of Sarah, an independent product tester and mom of a 2-month-old baby, to take the stroller for multiple test-drives. She used the Nuna MIXX stroller in combination with the Nuna PIPA urbn car seat as a travel system, and tested it across a number of different situations.
• We asked Sarah to rate the stroller across six categories—including ease of use, folding and unfolding, features, design, value and overall experience—on a scale of 1 to 5, with 1 being the worst possible score and 5 being the best. Her ratings have been combined with extensive research by our in-house editorial team to inform the in-depth product review below.
• In May 2023 we surveyed over 300 new and expectant parents, gathering feedback on the baby gear they used with their own families. We asked survey respondents to rate the Nuna MIXX Next stroller and tell us what they liked and disliked about it.

Nuna MIXX Next Stroller Review

After using the Nuna MIXX Next with her 2-month-old baby, our product tester, Sarah, evaluated the stroller based on the following categories: Ease of pushing and steering, folding and unfolding, ease of use as a stroller and travel system, features, style and design and value for money. Keep reading to hear her thoughts.

Ease of pushing and steering

Our product tester awarded the Nuna MIXX Next top marks for ease of pushing and steering. “I was actually really impressed with the stroller’s ease in maneuverability. It’s easy to steer one-handed and the turn radius is fantastic,” says Sarah. “We went on walks that included turns, going over bumps and curbs, as well as uneven grassy fields and this stroller handled it all great. The suspension is really good and helped make it a pretty smooth ride for my baby even on bumpy terrain,” she continues. We’re not surprised at this assessment as the stroller has free-flex suspension and large foam-filled tires designed to absorb any jolts or shocks along your journey. Another plus point is the compact frame that weighs under 29 lbs. and is small enough to maneuver through tight spaces. “It doesn’t feel heavy to push at all. It’s nice to take shopping and doesn’t feel weighed down when items are in the basket.” An adjustable handlebar also makes it easy to steer and push, whether you are tall or on the shorter side. This is evident in our product tester’s review as she told us that “the handlebar is comfortable and a good width and length.” Overall, the pushing and steering process was a positive one: “I felt like my baby was secure at all times when we had to go down and up curbs, and again I was able to use just one hand if necessary.”

Folding and unfolding

The Nuna MIXX Next folds 6.5 inches smaller than its predecessor; however, our product tester felt that the folding process could be improved upon. “While it is pretty easy to fold and unfold the stroller, you unfortunately can’t do it with one hand,” says Sarah. “It requires both hands, as the mechanisms are at the top by the handle on both sides,” she explains. “This was one of the few features I didn’t like about this stroller, as I’ve personally used others where it’s quite easy to fold and unfold with one hand.”

The stroller is relatively compact, stands upright once folded and can be pulled behind you like a trolley. But our product tester found it difficult to pack away and store. “It was a little awkward to carry when folded. However, that could be an issue on my end as I’m short in stature, so it could be much easier for taller users.” In terms of size when folded, our tester reported that the Nuna MIXX Next was “average” for a travel system stroller. “It does take up quite a bit of space but from experience so do the others. It will stand up on its own while folded, which is a nice aspect.”

One of the claims made by Nuna is that the stroller automatically locks into place once folded, but our product tester wasn’t overly impressed with this feature. “I wish that when folding the stroller you didn’t have to use a latch to lock it in place—and honestly since there is a latch and it has to be used, I wish there were two because the single latch, on just one side of the stroller, doesn’t keep it folded very tight and adds to the cumbersomeness when trying to move it folded or lift it into a car.”

Ease of use as a stroller travel system

One of the biggest selling points of this stroller is its versatility. The stroller itself can be used from birth thanks to a reclining seat with a flat position for newborn naps on the go. And the stroller is compatible with all Nuna infant car seats, so you can easily create a travel system. Our product tester tested the Nuna MIXX Next in combination with the PIPA urbn and gave it top marks for ease of use. In terms of assembly, “the longest part of setting up this travel system was probably just getting all the straps and buckles adjusted to fit my baby, and taking out any of the inserts.” All in all it took her “an hour, or a little less, to set up both the stroller and the car seat.”

Our product tester said it was easy to attach and detach the car seat, earning this stroller major brownie points: “It comes with the adaptor piece to put the car seat in place versus the regular seat. It’s very easy to click the car seat into place and to take it off. Plus, you can do that with one hand, which is awesome.” She was also a fan of the one-touch rear-wheel braking system, telling us that “the stroller brake works well, it’s right at the bottom of the stroller near where your feet are, so it’s easy to access.”

It also has plenty of adjustable features, including a reclining seat, removable armbar and “you can adjust the stroller handle into several different lengths, which is great.” It also has an all-weather seat with removable cushioning for winter and an airy mesh back panel for summer. According to our product tester, “the stroller is also fairly easy to keep clean as the fabric seat lining and the inserts for the car seat are machine washable, which is a big plus.”

Car seat compatibility

As mentioned above, Sarah used the stroller as her primary travel system with a baseless car seat. “Initially I was a bit concerned about using the car seat since it doesn’t have a base. But after reading up on the safety features and using it multiple times, I really, really love it,” she gushed.

One thing she liked was how easy it was to install the seat into the car. “The first couple of times I needed to go on both sides to make sure it clicked in place, but after that I was able to get it clicked in on both sides all at once.” Once installed, she told us that “it does feel secure when locked into the bars, which is something I was worried about since it doesn’t have a base.”

Despite her initial concerns, Sarah is a big fan of the Nuna MIXX and PIPA urbn pairing. “I love that it has a one-handed release button—it makes it so easy to get it out of the car.” She found it lightweight and a lot easier to carry than other car seats she’s used. “Overall I’m really impressed with how easy it is to use, lift and carry this car seat.” Sounds good to us!

Stroller features

The Nuna MIXX Next has many noteworthy features, but our product tester paid particular attention to a few key aspects that set this stroller apart from the crowd. “The two features I love most about the stroller are the recline for newborns and babies under 6 months of age and the fact that you can face the seat either way (facing towards you or out).” As our tester’s child is only 2-months-old, she only used the stroller in a reclined position as per safety guidelines, but she did appreciate the multiple options: “The seat reclines and clicks into multiple different positions, which is great since every baby has a different preference.” Aside from the built-in seating arrangements, “I love that I have the option to either use the car seat in the stroller, or I can just take my baby out of the car seat and place them in the stroller with the seat in recline.” Another feature our product tester mentioned was the canopy. “It’s UPF 50+ and water resistant, but it also has ventilation panels so baby can get good air circulation.”

While Sarah loved the stroller features there was one thing that she felt was lacking. “The only thing I really wish this had was a cupholder included on the stroller,” she told us. While she noted that it is possible to buy a separate stroller organizer , she said that “I’d love to be able to put my phone somewhere, maybe my keys and a drink. I know there’s a pocket on the back of the seat to put your phone, but that’s only good for if you’re using the seat facing away from you. If you’re using it facing towards you (like for newborns) or using the car seat, you don’t have anywhere to put a phone or keys.” While this issue is definitely worth flagging, our product tester said that it was a minor bugbear that didn’t really affect her overall opinion on the features of the stroller.

Style and design

Given that you’ll use it everyday, your stroller should match your style aesthetic. And that was certainly the case with the Nuna MIXX Next and our product tester. “The stroller looks really modern and sleek in its design. I like the ‘leatherette’ handles, as it makes the stroller feel really luxe,” she told us. It comes in seven colors but our product tester handled the caviar colorway and likes the black and brown combo. “I don’t feel like the black makes the fabric hot or anything like that, so I wouldn’t put that into consideration when choosing between the black or gray colorways,” she said.

In summary: “Overall I’m really happy with the look and design of the stroller and don’t have any suggestions other than maybe offer it in more colorways for others to choose from. But black goes with everything and it looks great to me!”

Value for money

The Nuna MIXX Next stroller is priced at $800 on its own, but is also available in a bundle alongside the PIPA urbn car seat for $1,200. “This travel system definitely has a higher price point than some other travel systems. But I do think that it’s worth the price,” says our product tester. “As you can use the car seat or the newborn full recline for the stroller, and then can use the seat up to 50 pounds you’ll get a lot of use out of this—quite possibly from birth till 4 or 5 years of age,” she explains.

Another key selling point for our product tester was the fact that the car seat is baseless, as “/[it] makes it so much easier to travel with one less stroller item to carry around.” Admittedly, it is expensive but our tester says that “it really is worth the money as long as you’re looking for something with all its features, are going to get good use out of it for multiple years and plan on traveling.”

Our final question for our product tester was: would you recommend this stroller? And her answer was a resounding yes. “I would definitely recommend this travel system!” she responded. “The car seat not needing a base to use in your car … and the many different ways you can recline the stroller seat and have it face in either direction are the main reasons why I think this travel system is great and why I’d recommend it,” she told us.

Description

This travel system stays true to Nuna’s reputation for modern and user-friendly designs. It comes with the Pipa Rx Infant Car Seat, the Relx Base and the Tavo Next stroller —everything you need to go from the car to stroller and back again.

First, the car seat and base. Color-coded indicators (green means installation is complete; red tells you there’s more to do) let you know when the base is connected correctly so you can travel with confidence. It’s also easy to install without the base—handy for parents who often rideshare.

This seat gets points for safety and comfort. It has side-impact protection and a base with a fold-down stability leg that wedges against the car floor. The leg absorbs collision forces in an accident and stabilizes your baby’s ride the rest of the time (it’s a locking 3-piece design that makes it a better fit for different types of cars and the middle seat).

The base also has an anti-rebound panel that helps achieve a tight install and prevents extra motion. There’s more: the steel-reinforced rigid latch has four positions for a better fit against your vehicle seat.

The bubble-free, numbered recline means you can change positions as your baby grows without having to uninstall the base. The low-profile base also allows for easier loading of the car seat.

Another parent favorite: the pull-down canopy creates a shady cocoon and attaches quietly with magnets, while the mesh window lets you check in. The canopy is UPF 50+ canopy with a flip-out eyeshade for added protection.

The Pipa RX comes with a two-piece removable infant insert made from organic jersey and head support that customizes to baby’s shape. All the materials used are flame resistant, but without any added fire retardant chemicals.

Two more noteworthy details: buckle holders keep the buckle out of the way when you’re putting in baby and the luxe leatherette handle adds a chic touch.

And now the stroller. Built-in Free-flex suspension ensures their ride is smooth, and the extra spacious seats encourage comfort.

The Tavo Next features a fold-away axle for a more compact fold (it can also be opened and closed with one hand) and the MagneTech Secure Snap, a self-guiding magnetic buckle that automatically locks into place and makes harnessing a breeze. Five and three-point harness and a removable arm bar allow for flexibility as your little one grows.

The roomy all-season seat keeps baby cozy in winter and unsnaps to breathable mesh in the summer. What's in the package?

Depending on your needs, you can buy the seat and chassis on their own, or you can choose a bundle which includes a carrycot and car seat. The cost for this varies between £450 for the basic frame and seat, and £799 including the carrycot and car seat.

There are always bargains to be found if you shop around, but make sure you buy from an approved supplier to ensure you’re getting the real deal.

Alongside the main seat unit, there is a memory foam-style seat insert. The seat itself has five recline options (lie-flat, upright and three in between) along with two calf rest positions.

The carrycot is excellent. It’s very sturdy and solid when assembled, but flat-packs when not in use for easy storage.

Included in the travel system package is a Nuna car seat along with adapters to connect it to the chassis. While the car seat is padded and soft for maximum comfort, it can be fiddly to attach to the pushchair base as it must line up exactly with the adaptors. This can be a struggle with a heavy baby, but this issue is not unique to the Nuna Mixx.

How easy is it to assemble?

The pram is very easy to put together and took no more than five or 10 minutes to assemble completely. The seat is already built with the hood attached, so it’s just a case of putting the wheels on and you’re away. The carrycot also has the hood already attached, so there’s no fiddling to be done there either.

The material on the Nuna seems very hardwearing and had a denim look and feel about it. There was no sign of wear on the wheels after our week-long test period.

The travel system comes with a two-year warranty from the day of purchase, however it does not cover wear and tear or incorrect use. Accessories have a one-year warranty.

Customer service details are easy to access. You can either email or call directly or fill in one of the customer service forms on the Nuna website. A complete manual for assembly and use is available online with easy-to-understand diagrams.

How does it look?

The Nuna Mixx 2019 comes in four colourways, so there’s plenty to choose from whatever your style. We tested the grey which is more like a denim and is accented with a leatherette brown trim.

While the buggy doesn’t shout ‘look at me’, the contrasting colours of the blue denim and brown trim are incredibly elegant.

The hood is a generous size and holds up during heavy wind. It can be extended to block out the sun and it also has a ventilation panel and window to keep the baby cool during summer.

For rainier days, the Nuna comes with a rain cover specifically designed for the carrycot.

The only thing that could be improved is the length of the carrycot as our tester felt a larger baby could outgrow it in just a few short months.

What's the Nuna Mixx 2019 like to use day-to-day?

The Nuna Mixx is lightweight with a sturdy design. At 12.5 kg, it is fairly average in weight (if a little on the higher end of the scale) compared to other travel systems on the market, such as the BabyStyle Oyster 3 , but it will leave your baby with lots of room day-to-day.

Our tester found the buggy smooth to push and, although she felt a few bumps on uneven ground, there was nothing too extreme to make it uncomfortable.

She also praised the built-in suspension and chunky rear wheels – these features meant that she barely noticed going up and down kerbs and there were no awkward jolts for the baby.

It handles off-roading and grassy areas really well, absorbing most of the bumps and dips with ease.

When it came to day-to-day use, she found the buggy really stepped up to tackle all the demands of her hectic life – she took it to football training, around the park and out with her when walking the neighbour’s dog. It effortlessly handled the school run and the grocery shop too.

The storage basket can fit two to three bags of shopping or a changing bag with space for an extra bag or a few loose bits and pieces without making the whole buggy too bulky. Nuna recommends you don’t load the basket with any more than 4.5kg though.

Our tester’s six-year-old son liked to push it and it was just as easy for him to handle and steer as it was for her six-foot partner. This was helped by the easily adjustable handle which has three positions, so you can switch between heights on the go.

In fact, the only real awkwardness came when our tester had to carry the buggy up and down stairs. It was almost impossible to do with one hand while holding the baby with the other as there is no integrated carry handle.

How does it fold?

The Nuna is very easy to fold – the mechanism collapses towards the floor meaning that all four wheels remain on the ground at all times, which prevents it from getting wet or dirty as you're folding.

Nuna claims that you can fold the buggy with the seat facing both ways, but, when our tester attempted to fold it with the seat facing backwards, it didn’t close properly. She noted that the seat hung off the back of the frame, which didn’t happen when it was folded with the seat in a forward-facing position.

Keep in mind that you need to press a button on each side of the frame to fold it. You'll need two hands free and will need somewhere safe for your baby while you collapse the buggy.

Once folded, it fitted into our tester’s medium-sized boot easily, leaving a bit of space for bags and extras.

How comfortable is it?

The seat unit will easily fit a toddler while not swallowing up a tiny baby either – we tested it with a seven-month-old and two-and-a-half-year-old.

It lies flat which makes it suitable from birth. It’s very easy to change the seat recline, so it can be transformed from an upright to a lie-flat position effortlessly.

This not only helps with naps on the move (it’s so smooth you can transition the seat without disturbing a napping toddler), but also means that the pushchair is suitable for a newborn even without the carrycot.

The seat is both parent- and forward-facing and it comes with a good head support cushion for the seat to make it more comfortable for younger babies. This can be removed to make the seat roomier for bigger children.

How safe is it?

While the Nuna Mixx is light to push, it doesn’t tip or fall when weighted with heavy shopping bags with or without a child in the seat – this is true whether it has the carrycot, seat or car seat attached.

This buggy was thoroughly tested on bumpy paths, long walks and shopping trips and there were no safety concerns at all.

The brake holds well, is easily accessible and effortless to flick on and off with your foot as it’s positioned in the centre of the bar across the back of buggy. It also doesn’t stick like some others on test, most notably the Mamas & Papas Ocarro , which did get stuck on occasion.

The five-point harness works as it should – it is very secure and easy to use. All parts fit together well and can't easily be unclipped by little fingers.

When it comes to the seat unit, the recline feels very sturdy. There is a pull-out handle on back of the chair, which means it's easy to adjust and remains secure once in place.

The pushchair also has a belly bar but this sits quite low on a small baby, so our tester felt that was more for the baby to hold rather than for added security.

What about the extras?

The hood on the seat has a UV protection rating of 50+ and it covers the baby remarkably well when fully extended.

The rain cover was effective in keeping the baby dry and it was also very quick and easy to fit for those sudden showers. It’s lightweight, folds down well and fits easily into the on-board storage basket.

A great design feature that our tester really liked is that the storage basket can be split into two compartments which means you can separate your shopping from your baby essentials . Plus, there's a handy zip pocket if you want to hide anything away.

How easy is it to clean?

The high-quality fabric comes mostly in dark colours, so the majority of marks and stains are unlikely to show. We tested the Aspen colourway.

The seat fabric is hardwearing, which means it can go through the washing machine and come out like new. It can be unzipped at the back and pulls off completely to be put into the wash. A wet wipe does a good job if you need to do a few spot cleans throughout the day.

As for the carrycot, it comes with a removable sheet for easy washing. The sides and hood unfortunately can't be removed, but a quick scrub with a wet cloth and water will soon remove any marks.

After our week-long test period, the chassis and wheels were remarkably scratch-free and, with the ease of washing the covers, this buggy could stay looking brand-new for a long time.

Final verdict?

While there are cheaper travel systems out there, the Nuna Mixx 2019 is well worth the money – at £450 for the basic seat and chassis, it’s not going to break the bank for the majority of parents.

It's a solid all-rounder and performs really well. Our tester found it easy for her whole family to use, from her six-year-old son to her six-foot tall partner. It slotted into their busy, active family life, making itself a useful, comfortable and stylish asset for any eventuality.

Nuna TAVO Stroller Review

When the Nuna TAVO stroller arrived on our doorstep, my husband was eager to put it together and take baby’s first set of wheels for a test drive. If I’m being honest, he did the majority of the assembly. (It’s more his wheelhouse, pun intended.) But I was there to lend a hand or pass a screwdriver as needed. Though, it turns out no tools are necessary–score!

Once we had all the pieces laid out on our living room floor, he set to work. There is thorough manual that covers everything you need to know, but the instructions also come with a fold out of simple visual directions that walk you through putting the stroller together and explaining the main features. As seasoned IKEA furniture builders, we mostly relied on the pictures. They were quick and incredibly easy to follow. (Later on, we did read through the more detailed explanations to make sure we had a firm grasp of how it all worked. It was all very simple to understand.)

The TAVO comes assembled for the most part; all we had to add was the arm bar, brake bar and four wheels. That’s it. My husband was incredibly impressed at how easy the process was. It was completely built in less than 15 minutes. Full disclosure: We are first-time parents, and this was the very first piece of gear we unboxed and put together. In hindsight, I’m so glad it was! I think we both breathed a big sigh of relief and thought, Hey, we really can do this!

Once it was a fully functioning stroller, the first thing we stopped to admire was the design—from a purely aesthetic standpoint. My husband and I both whole-heartedly agreed that the Nuna TAVO is a good-looking piece of baby gear. It’s very clean and has a nice streamlined style and we love the leatherette handlebar. The materials all seem very nice, and the stroller on the whole looks like it costs much more than the $400 price tag.

We have the aluminum color, which is mostly black with a brushed silver frame and taupe/gray accents. But it is also available with blue or red accents, as well as an all black style.

When it’s ready to roll, the stroller doesn’t take up a ton of space, and we live in pretty close quarters. It’s not the most compact fold I’ve seen, but I love that you can both fold and unfold it with one hand—and with minimal effort. It’s so smooth! It’s basically a one-step process to collapse it. Then all you have to do is fasten the side lock on one side to keep it closed. The folded stroller will easily fit in the trunk of our car or in our hall closet. Product weight is about 25 pounds without your little one, so it’s a manageable lift.

A Smooth Ride for Your Little One

When it comes to baby’s comfort, there’s an all season seat with a plush pad that cushions the back. I wish it extended to the bottom of the seat, too, for baby’s bum. But it seems to be a comfortable, smooth ride, especially with the four-position recline, which goes all the way back. (A major bonus for naps on the run!) To recline the seat, you have to unzip the back and pull a lever up and down. It takes a minute to fit the zipper pieces back together when you’re putting the seat upright again, but for that flat recline it’s worth any extra time. The adjustable calf support with footrest is an added bonus.

The five-point harness seems very secure and the shoulder straps are padded for comfort. We love the one-click release button that makes getting baby in and out a bit speedier.

There is a removable arm bar (it requires two hands to take it off), but we haven’t had any issues getting our little one in and out with it in place. You can purchase a child tray (sold separately) that clicks in to one side in place of the arm bar, which includes a small cup holder and snack compartment.

Another standout feature: The Nuna TAVO has a well-sized UPF 50+ Sky smart canopy that also includes a flip out eyeshade and an additional black zip-out dream drape to extend coverage. There are two large mesh ventilation panels, for added airflow and so you can check on your kiddo en route. My husband and I were happy to see that the peekabo window flap uses magnets (not velcro), which allows us to quietly sneak a peek without waking our snoozy babe. A rain cover and wheeled travel bag are available as additional accessories.

The TAVO boasts a smooth ride thanks to the progressive front and rear wheel suspension, and it’s super easy to turn even if you find yourself in tight quarters. I don’t foresee any problems navigating this set of wheels around town. My husband was equally happy with how well it maneuvered and the quality of the tires—they handle curbs and sidewalks with ease. As city-dwellers, we don’t venture off road with this stroller very much, but it is easy to steer on paved paths or grass at the park. The front two wheels can swivel or lock in place if you need a bit more control. The one-touch foot brake is sandal-friendly, too! Another feature I was particularly excited about with a summer baby. The leatherette height adjustable pushbar is comfortable to the touch, an important feature during a long day of stroller pushing!

The storage basket underneath is generously sized and holds up to 10 pounds. It’s easy to access from the back and sides. Getting anything out of the storage basket from the front is a bit awkward, so we don’t do that very much.

You can clean the frame and fabric with a damp cloth; both are easy to wipe and durable. The seat pad is removable and can be thrown in the wash, but keep in mind that it needs to air dry—so make sure you have plenty of time before you need to use it again.

The Nuna TAVO is a single stroller, so it’s built for one passenger without the option to add an extra seat. You can, however, use it with the Nuna PIPA series car seats for a complete travel system, no need for any adapters. The TAVO accommodates children from birth to 50 pounds with a removable infant insert and arm bar.

Overall, we are loving our Nuna TAVO stroller! It looks and feels like a much higher-end stroller at a much more reasonable cost. In fact, we have already recommended it to friends!
