Dilwara Temples

Located just 2.6 km from Mount Abu is a sacred pilgrimage site, the Dilwara Temples. Constructed between the 11th and 13th centuries CE, the Dilwara Temples consist of five Jain temples – Vimal Vasahi, Pithalhar, Luna Vasahi, Mahavir Swami and Parshvanath. They boast a very fine architectural style with intricate marble carvings, stunning sculptures, splendid entrances and ornamental detailing in doorways, panels and pillars. Besides being visually impressive, this temple offers beautiful views of forested hills.

Said to be dug out from the nails of god, the Nakki Lake is sacred. Surrounded by scenic mountains and trees, it is a haven for nature lovers. You can enjoy a picnic along the banks, go boating on the lake or horse riding around it. The Maharaja Jaipur Palace and Raghunath temple lie on he shores of the lake. Another key attraction is the Toad Rock set on a hilltop. As the name suggests, it resembles a toad, and you can either walk or climb the rocky path to reach it and enjoy the stunning lake views below. Entry costs INR 50 ($0.77)-INR 100 ($ 1.54).

If you’re seeking peace and quiet, the best spot in Mount Abu is Sunset Point, a stone’s throw from Nakki Lake. This place makes for a relaxing and serene evening excursion. You can set off on foot along the cobblestone path or take a pony ride to the point. Mount Abu Wildlife Sanctuary

The Mount Abu Wildlife Sanctuary is home to a variety of wildlife, including the Indian leopard, jungle cat, sambhar, Indian wolf, sloth bear, black bear, and 250 species of birds — but the specialty is the grey jungle fowl. There’s plenty of flora too, with 112 plant species, 89 shrubs, 81 tree species, and three species of wild rose. It is the only place in Rajasthan with a diverse range of orchids.

Trevor’s Tank is a crocodile breeding ground. Besides crocs, you can find a plethora of birds and other fascinating wildlife, too, making this a birdwatcher and nature-lover’s spot.

Guru Shikhar Peak

Just 15 km from Mount Abu lies the highest peak of the Aravalli range, Guru Shikhar, an altitude of 1,722 meters. You can trek to the peak and enjoy the bird’s-eye view of the town. Besides the scenic vistas, the peak is home to the temple of Dattatreya, who is said to be the embodiment of the trinity Lord Vishnu, Shiva and Brahma.

Achalgarh Fort

About 6.8 miles from Mount Abu is Achalgarh Fort, which is falling into dilapidation but worthy of a visit nonetheless, because of its religious and historical importance. The fort has two intricately carved towers, and just outside is the Achaleshwar Mahadev Temple, where you can see the impression of Lord Shiva’s foot, three stone buffaloes and a brass Nandi statue.

Enjoy adventure activities

Adventure enthusiasts can enjoy camping, rappelling, zip lining, mountain biking, trekking in the mountains and rock climbing. You can hike along the Craig path, up Shanti Shikhar peak, to table rock and the Adesh Avdhoot cave; trek in the jungle and spot diverse flora and fauna; or go rappelling on the igneous basalt rocks. There are 18 nature trails for a nature walk, too. Hot air ballooning, jeep safaris and horse riding are also on offer. A trip to Mount Abu is incomplete without buying some souvenirs, and the best place is at Chacha Museum, close to Nakki Lake. Local art, Rajasthani handicrafts, gifts, brass artefacts, quilts, and wooden items can all be bought here.

They keep your DL as a deposit when you’re enjoying a two-wheeler day out. When your two-wheeler breaks down or bothers you, the shop keeper will be just a call away. Authorized agents can only refuse to hire bikes in the middle of the day and say that booking a bike can only take place at 8 a.m.

3. Do visit Dilwara Jain Temples

The 1000-year-old temple will make Taj Mahal a shame! It’s great. Each corner and every intersection is full of architectural wonders. Built on marbles, the temple is devoted to the gods and rulers of Jain. The entire premises has a cluster of temples built in varying ages. In the Puranas, this area was referred to as ‘Arbudaranya’ i.e., the forest of Arbu. So clearly, the word Abu has its roots in ‘Arbu’. According to mythology, Arbuda was a serpent who saved the life of Nandi, Lord Shiva’s bull, on this mountain.

In 1311 CE, Rao Lumba of the Deora-Chauhan Dynasty conquered Mount Abu from the Parmars. Later, the British took it on lease from the Maharaja of Sirohi to set up their base away from Rajasthan’s dry, hot summer.

At a distance of 14 km from Jaipur Junction Railway Station and 500 m from Amer Fort, Srijagat Siromani Temple is one of the oldest temple of Amber town. This temple is dedicated to Meera Bai and Lord Krishna. Meera Bai is the wife of Mewar king though in childhood she was a great devotee of Lord Krishna and considered him as her husband. This temple was built during1599 - 1608 AD by the queen Kanakwati, wife of king Man Singh I in the memory of her son Jagat Singh. According to the history, the statue of Lord Krishna in this temple is same statue that Meera Bai used to worship in Mewar. This statue was saved from destruction by rulers of Amer during Mughal war with Mewar and brought safely to Amer. The temple is a perfect example of Nagara style architecture. 2 Amer Fort / Amber Fort

At a distance of 13 km from Jaipur Junction Railway Station, Amer Fort or Amber Fort is located in Amer near Jaipur. It is one of the best-preserved forts in Rajasthan , and among the prime place to include in Jaipur packages . Amber was founded by the Meenas in 967 AD and they dedicated the town to Amba, the Mother Goddess. Around 1037 AD, Amber was conquered by Kachhawa Rajputs and ruled from the 11th to the 18th century, until the capital was moved from Amer to Jaipur. The Amber Fort was built by Raja Man Singh in 1592 AD and it was further expanded by successive rulers. 3 Jaigarh Fort

At a distance of 15 km from Jaipur Junction Railway Station and less than 1 km (by walk) from Amer Fort, Jaigarh Fort is situated on a cliff called Cheel ka Teela (Hill of Eagles) of the Aravali range. It overlooks the Amber Fort and the Maota Lake. This is one of the best forts in Jaipur and also among the famous Jaipur tourist places which is commonly visited from Amber Fort. The fort was built by Jai Singh II in 1726 to protect the Amber Fort and was named after him. At a distance of 7 km from Jaipur Junction Railway Station and 7 km from Amer Fort, Maharaja ki Chhatri, also known as Gaitor Tombs are located in the walled city area named Brahmpuri at the foothills of Nahargarh Fort on Jaipur-Amer road. Gaitor is the cremation ground of the Royal Maharajas of Rajasthan. It is believed that the word Gaitor is the mispronunciation form of Gaye ka Thor that means the resting place of the departed souls. Royal cenotaphs are built over the cremation site. At a distance of 2 km from City Palace and 3 km from City Railway Station, Bagore Ki Haveli is an old royal building situated in front of the Lake Pichola at Gangori Ghat in Udaipur. This is one of the top places to visit in Udaipur. Built by Amir Chand Badwa, the Chief Minister of Mewar Royal Court, it dates back to the 18th century. Maharana Shakti Singh of Bagore, who resided in the haveli, incorporated three storeys to the main structure, in 1878 AD. After being deserted for 50 years post-independence, the haveli was finally handed over to the West Zone Cultural Centre in 1986 for restoration.
