🚑 Should I buy Australian travel insurance?

100% YES!  — Australia has “free” healthcare but it’s only for citizens and permanent residents. Foreigners visiting need travel insurance in case anything happens on their visit. I like SafetyWing  – their Nomad Insurance starts at just $1.50 USD a day!

🚗 Should I rent a car in Australia?

Yes  —  Renting a car  is a necessity in most of Australia! If you want to go on road trips or adventures outside of the major cities, and even if you’re staying in a major city, you’ll want to rent a car. If you are visiting Margaret River, it will be even more important that you hire a car, you’ll need it to be able to get around and see all the great attractions and wineries!

🏨 What’s the best way to book my Australian accommodation?

My go-to for Australian hotels is  Booking.com . Pretty much all registered accommodation use Booking.com (but not necessarily any of the other major booking platforms), and even most of the holiday homes and caravan parks use Booking.com too!

If you’re planning a trip to Australia where you will stay at multiple locations, it’s super handy to have all your accommodation listed in one place, and accommodation owners like Booking.com because it’s easy to contact the guests using the messaging platform if the guest has an international phone number.

I sincerely hope you enjoy your visit to Margaret River!

Busselton Wharf

Margaret River

Tucked away in the south west corner of Australia, south of  Perth  is the beautiful Margaret River region. Located in the valley of the eponymous Margaret River, it sits 9 kilometres inland from the Indian Ocean between Cape Naturaliste and Cape Leeuwin in Western Australia .

Once a small surfing town, Margaret River is now a world-renowned wine region. You can enjoy the region’s finest wines against a backdrop of incredible forest and ocean scenery. Indulge your tastebuds at the Margaret River wineries, home to fine wines that make up 20% of the Australian premium wine market. You'll find local arts and crafts, fresh produce, full-bodied wines and gourmet food.

There’s also plenty of natural beauty that surrounds. In Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park is  Mammoth Cave , a limestone cave internationally recognised for its splendour and pristine condition. Here you’ll gain an amazing insight into the fascinating underground world.

Another must-see on any visit to the region is Busselton Jetty, the longest wooden jetty in the southern hemisphere, stretching out 1.8 kilometres to sea and home to arguably Australia's greatest artificial reef. From the Underwater Observatory, see the amazing sea life with more than 300 individual marine species and vibrantly-coloured corals.

Margaret River Wineries

Margaret River region has only been around for less than a century, but optimum growing conditions have enabled the Margaret River wine region to flourish and become one of the world's premier fine wine regions. It has been referred to as having a climate similar to Bordeaux in France and we know how good the wine is there!

The establishment began when Dr Tom Cullity, a Perth Cardiologist had a dream to make wine. After careful research he planted the first Margaret River vines on the eight acres of land that he had bought for a mere $75 an acre and named his property " Vasse Felix ", a name the expanded vineyard still bears today.

Made up predominantly of boutique wineries, this region produces just 3% of total Australian grape production but accounts for over 20% of the Australian premium wine market. Highly regarded for its cabernet sauvignon and celebrated as one of the world’s most favourable areas for producing chardonnay – be sure to taste these specialties! Home to world-class wineries, breweries, some of the finest restaurants and divine cheese and chocolate factories, your senses will be in for a treat.

Choose from a variety of AAT Kings wine and food tours in Margaret River.

"What an excellent tour. Our guide Steve was so informative and knew the area very well. This is not a normal wine tour - we visited local sights, coffee works, cheese factory, chocolate factory, skin care factory, beaches, brewery and of course wineries. The lunch at Xanadu was first class and so delicious. This tour represented excellent value - the best we have experienced - well done Harvest and particularly Steve our wonderful guide."

"Our Harvest tour was awesome! Clarice, our driver, was so personable and knowledgeable. As it turned out, there were only 2 couples booked on our weekday tour and so we got a really personal experience. We loved that the tour showcased both the food and wine of the region. The whole day was very relaxed and we never felt rushed or pushed for time. There are so many tour companies operating in the region and we felt so lucky to have chosen the perfect one!"

"Steve and his family have excelled at designing and executing a small group tour that highlights the beautiful Margaret River region. You will learn not only about the exquisite wines but also the community and ecology of the area. Steve is an absolutely fantastic tour guide that will leave you not wanting for anything more from your day. My partner and I lost track of time and glasses of wine between the coffee tasting start and brewery finish and we would not have changed a thing. Highly recommend!"

Optional Extras

Arrive in Perth to your CBD hotel, within walking distance of many great restaurants and bars. Explore Western Australia’s beautiful capital city on the banks of the Swan River.

Accommodation: Hotel Rendezvous Central, Perth

Explore the city at your own pace today. King’s Park and Botanic Gardens is an absolute must, with one of Australia’s most iconic city views. Check out the Bell Tower and Elisabeth Quay or simply stroll along the Esplanade watching the activity of the Swan River. You can ride four free busses around the centre of town – the buses are colour coded and route maps are available at the Tourist Information Centres and hotels. Another fantastic alternative is a visit to the wineries and gourmet food producers of the Swan Valley. You can jump on a Swan River scenic cruise (recommended operator: Captain Cook Cruises).

Meals:  Breakfast

After breakfast we will pick you up in a small bus, to begin a 4-day touring adventure of Margaret River and the south-west corner of WA. Our first stop is Busselton Jetty which is about 2.5hrs south of Perth. Busselton is a chilled holiday town with pristine Indian Ocean beaches and a 19th-century wooden Jetty which extends nearly 2km out to the ocean. It is the southern hemisphere’s longest, and an impressive sight. From Busselton we will follow the coast round to Cape Naturaliste and visit some of it’s beautiful beaches with Meelup Beach being a highlight. We will also check out the lighthouse precinct and Sugarloaf Rock Lookout to see this massive granite island. We will fill the afternoon picking out spots on the coast before heading to the town of Margaret River to check into our accommodation. Enjoy dinner in the evening at a local restaurant.

Accommodation:  Margarets Forest Holiday Apartments

Meals:  Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Today we will spend the day exploring the natural side of the Margaret River region. Known mainly for it’s wineries and delicious gourmet produce, Margaret River also boasts a spectacular coastline. Perfect white sand beaches, limestone cliffs and deep red granite boulders that beg to be explored.

We will allow time to drop into the famous Cape to Cape walk trail to access some of the more spectacular sites along the coast. While the walking is not hugely demanding, there will be some walking on uneven surfaces for up to an hour or so at a time. A highlight is standing on top of the Wilyabrup sea cliffs, and walking through the tranquil Boranup Karri Forest. For tours in summer we can take a swim at Hamelin Bay. We will pack everything we can into this memorable day out in nature before heading back to our motel, where you can walk into town for an evening meal from one of the many restaurants.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

Wine and indulgence are the order of the day! We start a bit later today, with the opportunity to stroll into town for a coffee and a look around. With over 100 wineries in Margaret River we will pick out the best, quaintest and quirkiest. There are some famous names that we cannot miss such as Leeuwin Estate, and Voyager Estate but there are also many smaller boutique producers with fantastic wines and beautiful grounds. The beer lovers will not be forgotten as we will stop at the Cheeky Monkey Brewery for lunch (not included), and we won’t forget about the chocolate fans either.

Meals:  No meals included today

After breakfast, we will leave Margaret River and head to one of the local limestone Caves. This stunningly decorated cave was Western Australia’s very first tourist attraction. By mid afternoon, we will arrive in Fremantle and check you into the centrally located and well presented Esplanade Hotel, for 2 nights.

With ‘Freo’ at your doorstep, there is no end to the nightlife options available. The original Little Creatures Brewery is in view of the hotel, as is the fishing boat harbour which must be the epicentre of Australia’s “Fish and Chip industry”. There are many small bars, quirky restaurants and cafes within walking distance of your hotel. Enjoy a night on the town in one of Australia’s coolest and bohemian towns.

Accommodation:  Esplanade Hotel, Fremantle

Meals: No meals included today

It is about a 10 minute walk from your hotel to B Shed ferry, where you can jump on the 30 minute boat ride over to the perfect island paradise, that is Rottnest Island. After a coffee, it is customary to try to grab a Quokka selfie. These little marsupials have the title of “World’s Friendliest Animals” and are an absolute delight for young and old. If you are feeling energetic, bicycles are a great way to explore the island. You can whip around the island in a couple of hours or take the whole day to explore the many swimming bays and snorkelling spots. If you are feeling like less physical exertion, there is a hop on hop off bus, which constantly rotates around the island and is another way to explore until your heart is content. Take the afternoon ferry back to Fremantle and enjoy one final night in Western Australia’s cultural capital.

What people love about our tours

Exceeded our expectations - more than just a wine tour.

tripadvisor

This was tour guiding beyond what’s written on the tin. I particularly enjoyed the showcasing of artisanal producers at every stop, including the excellent wineries.

A fantastic tour of the best locally owned and operated food and wine venues the Margaret River area has to offer!

Moscow Metro

The Moscow Metro Tour is included in most guided tours’ itineraries. Opened in 1935, under Stalin’s regime, the metro was not only meant to solve transport problems, but also was hailed as “a people’s palace”. Every station you will see during your Moscow metro tour looks like a palace room. There are bright paintings, mosaics, stained glass, bronze statues… Our Moscow metro tour includes the most impressive stations best architects and designers worked at - Ploshchad Revolutsii, Mayakovskaya, Komsomolskaya, Kievskaya, Novoslobodskaya and some others.

What is the kremlin in russia?

The guide will not only help you navigate the metro, but will also provide you with fascinating background tales for the images you see and a history of each station.

And there some stories to be told during the Moscow metro tour! The deepest station - Park Pobedy - is 84 metres under the ground with the world longest escalator of 140 meters. Parts of the so-called Metro-2, a secret strategic system of underground tunnels, was used for its construction.

During the Second World War the metro itself became a strategic asset: it was turned into the city's biggest bomb-shelter and one of the stations even became a library. 217 children were born here in 1941-1942! The metro is the most effective means of transport in the capital.

There are almost 200 stations 196 at the moment and trains run every 90 seconds! The guide of your Moscow metro tour can explain to you how to buy tickets and find your way if you plan to get around by yourself.
