Loch Lomond – From the Loch admire the breath-taking beauty & wealth of history, legend and folklore whilst on board a boat sailing through the Loch.

In Scotland the currency you will require will be Pounds (GBP/Sterling). Star Tours’ advices passengers to exchange any spending money for their holiday before they actually travel. Whilst on tour it is very inconvenient to change money and most places we will be visiting will not have ATM machines or accept credit/debit cards.

We also advice our passengers to keep some change in coins on them whilst on tour as using toilets in many parts of Scotland is not free.

An important point to note whilst on a touring holiday is that some long journeys are unavoidable especially when travelling from city to city.

It is advisable passengers carry necessities that they may need for the day such as water, dry snacks, cameras etc. with them in their hand luggage.

For this tour it should be noted that the travel times are extensive on this tour.

Breakfast will be provided at the hotels. The breakfast is usually in a separate dining area of the hotel, and is usually a continental breakfast, which will consist of tea, coffee, bread, cereals, fruit and yogurt.

Passengers can choose from different diets, including vegetarian, Jain or non-vegetarian (Halal will not always be available) meals. Passengers should advice their tour representative of their preferred diet on the day one. The meals are pre-set buffet and a choice of menu is not available. Meals will be provided with Tap Water only.

Lunches are usually vegetarian only and are provided outdoors at a service station/rest area where limited or no seating is available. Lunch is served in a picnic style buffet arrangement. Dinners are usually provided within the hotel or restaurant in a separate dining facility. You should always consult your tour representative if you are not sure of what ingredients a dish contains.

Not all hotels in this tour will have air-conditioning so you should carry a small portable fan with you especially during the summer months.

Please also note that not all hotels provide a kettle so if hot water is required for warming milk etc in the hotel then it is advisable to carry a bottle warmer / kettle as well as a thermos flask. Passengers may also want to carry a small travel iron and hair dryer etc, as many hotel rooms may not have these facilities.

If you use services such as the phone or mini bar, or pay TV whilst in your room, you will have to pay the hotel directly when you check out; these services are not included in your tour cost.

The maximum occupancy per room on this tour is 3 person(s).

Other Advisories

High altitude.

You should only make trips to high altitudes if you feel healthy. The following recommendations apply:

Advanced age is no barrier to high altitude. For blood pressure patients who are well controlled with medication, the altitude is not a concern. Asthmatics can travel to high altitudes without any problems. High-altitude air is less polluted with particles that can cause an asthma attack. Epileptics who are well controlled with medication should be able to negotiate the altitude.

Pregnant women: There may be a certain risk for pregnancy even without pre-existing diseases over 2500-3000 metres. Caution is therefore advised if in doubt, please consult your doctor in advance.

Infants: Short-term stays at the mountain tops are unproblematic. Infants and young children are often unable to equalise pressure during descent and are therefore increasingly at risk of ear irritation. Regular swallowing (drinking, sucking on a bottle) during the descent can prevent the occurrence of irritation. Because children can chill faster than adults, always pay attention to sufficient protection from the cold at high altitude. Sunglasses and a good sunscreen are necessary on the glaciers!

High altitude visits not recommended for:

Lung and heart patients who are already short of breath while at rest or when climbing stairs are advised not to stay at high altitude. Patients with angina pectoris or severely impaired performance with heart enlargement and heart failure should not visit high altitude. Coronary artery disease (angina pectoris) and heart enlargement with medical therapy should not visit high altitude. Patients with a pronounced risk profile for cardiovascular disease (smoker + high blood pressure + diabetes + high blood fats + overweight + occasional chest pain) should consult the doctor before visiting high altitude.

Do not stay at high altitude after having striated muscles or a stroke.

Pick up and Drop off points & Times

Passengers should arrive at their pick-up point no later than 15 minutes before the scheduled departure time. Your pick-up point, address and time will be stated on your invoice. If you have selected a pick-up time outside of Wembley then you will be confirmed your pick-up time.

Pick-up will be Northbound Services and drop-off will be at Southbound Services.

Visa Details

You do not require Schengen visas for this tour, however if you hold a non EU passport then you will require UK Visa. Please consult the British Embassy in your country of residence.

Passengers can be well prepared by ensuring they are carrying appropriate clothing, footwear and accessories. Passengers should also be aware that during the winter months most of the sightseeing will be in the dark as, in Scotland, the day becomes dark very early during winter. Passengers should consult with Star Tours at the time of booking if they are unsure.

Wheelchairs & Child Seats

We will accept light weight manual wheelchairs for travel, subject to them being capable of being stowed in the luggage hold of the coach. It is also essential that a family member is also on the tour to push their wheelchair. Star Tour’s will also request hotels for suitably equipped rooms; however, this is only on a request basis and cannot be guaranteed. It should be noted Ben Nevis is not fully accessible for a wheelchair user. Some part of Edinburgh will have cobbled streets, which may not be suitable for wheelchairs.

In most of Europe, the use of child seats in coaches is mandatory for children under the age of 12 or who are shorter than 150 cm. Children under 7 years old or less than 125 cm tall must use a child seat with a harness or a restraint system. Children between 7 and 12 years old or between 125 and 150 cm tall must use a booster seat or a seat cushion. It is the responsibility of the child's parent or guardian to provide the appropriate child seat for their child.

Madonna Reveals the First Word She Said After Waking Up from a 4-Day Coma Last Summer

While performing her first of five sold-out shows in Los Angeles, the Queen of Pop reflected on her 2023 hospitalization

Melody Chiu is an Executive Editor at PEOPLE overseeing music, events and emerging content. She has been with the brand since 2009, editing, writing and reporting across all entertainment verticals. She has written cover stories on Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez, Melissa McCarthy, Blake Shelton, Jordan Turpin and Sandra Oh. The Los Angeles native graduated from the University of Southern California and has appeared on Extra! , The Talk, Access Hollywood and Good Morning America .

Madonna is feeling grateful for her health.

During a reflective moment onstage at the first of her five sold-out Celebration World Tour shows at Los Angeles' Kia Forum, the Queen of Pop opened up about her hospitalization last year following a serious bacterial infection .

"This show every night is not really so hard on me physically. It's hard on me emotionally because I'm really telling you the story of my life. My heart is on my sleeve," she said. "I've fallen off a lot of horses and broken a lot of bones ... but nothing can stop me."

Kevin Mazur/WireImage

Referencing her health scare last summer, the singer called it a "near-death experience" and revealed the "first word" she said was "No" when she woke up from an induced coma after four days.

"I'm pretty sure that was God saying to me, 'Do you want to come? Want to come up with me? No ,'" Madonna continued, drawing laughs from the audience.

She later recalled a conversation she had with her longtime manager, Guy Oseary, while she was in the hospital. "He said, 'Well, when do you think you want to go back on tour?' I took the oxygen out of my nose. I looked at him, and I said, 'in two f---ing months!" she said. "I just said it. Sometimes you just have to say s--- [and] put it out in the universe. And it happens."

Madonna also gave a shoutout to one of her doctors, who was in attendance at the concert.

"I would call in every other day and ask [my doctor] why I didn't have any energy, when was my energy going to come back? When was I going to feel like myself again? When can I go on tour again?" she said. "All he would say is, 'Go outside in the sun' ... It was so hard for me to walk from my house to the backyard and sit in the sun. I know that sounds insane, but it was difficult."

Madonna told fans the scary ordeal forced her to slow down. "It's a strange thing to finally not feel like I was in control, and that was my lesson: to let go."

Ultimately, said the superstar, it was her loved ones who gave her strength to get back onstage. "My children are what really helped me pull through because they worked so hard. I didn't want to let them down, so I just set a date. And that date became reality," she said.

As they have throughout her tour, Madonna's kids showed off their talents onstage throughout the show, where stars like Dita Von Teese were spotted dancing and singing along in the audience.

Mercy joined her mom on the piano for "Bad Girl," earning enthusiastic cheers from the audience. Estere deejayed and pumped up the crowd during the fan-favorite "Vogue" section, while Stella appeared onstage during "Don't Tell Me," and David sang and played guitar on "Mother and Father."

Last October the Grammy winner, 65, kicked off her long-awaited tour at London's O2 Arena , where she also opened up about her road back to the stage .

"I didn't think I was gonna make it. Neither did my doctors. That's why I woke up with all of my children sitting around me," she said of her kids Lourdes, 27, Rocco, 23, David, 18, Mercy, 18, and twins Stella and Estere, 11. "But the angels were protecting me, and my children were there. And my children always save me every time."

Madonna is scheduled to tour through the end of April, when she will wrap her latest musical spectacle with five shows at Mexico City's Palacio De Los Deportes.

A woman inspects plants in a floral shop.

A local’s travel guide to the San Francisco Bay Area: what to eat, see and do in three days

The best spots from Oakland to San Francisco to the Pacific coast – and a tourist-free way to admire the Golden Gate Bridge

S an Francisco is widely known for its cable cars, foggy weather and hilly landscapes – but as someone who has lived here for five years, I know there is a lot more to the city than the picturesque postcards would have you believe.

I grew up in Iowa, where life is a little quieter, and I later lived in New York City, which nobody would describe as quiet. The Bay Area is my favorite place I have ever lived, though, a happy medium between a noisy city and peaceful small town – with plenty to do, and beautiful naturescapes never far away.

San Francisco and its surrounding areas have been subject to a lot of bad press recently, but for me, despite the problems (and occasional traffic congestion), living here feels like having access to a sunny playground all year round. If I were offering a friend a locals-only guide, here’s what I would suggest they get up to.

Day 1: The Jewels of Oakland

I love San Francisco, but the entire time I have lived out here I have stayed on the east side of the bay. The neighboring city of Oakland, where it is consistently warmer, more vibrant and, frankly, more fun, is what I call home. In general, I suggest renting a car when staying in the Bay Area. If you are primarily sticking around San Francisco, most activities are easily accessible by public transportation, but having a vehicle will give you easier access to all of the beautiful destinations surrounding the city.

A woman walks by a crowded sidewalk cafe.

Start out your day on Piedmont Avenue, which has a number of must-see spots. Grab a bagel or doughnut at the vegan cafe Timeless Coffee and stroll down the block to the beautiful nearby plant store Crimson Horticultur al Rarities . Just across the street, Spectator Books has an excellent selection that leans heavily on local authors. Vintage stores line the street, and I especially enjoy Mercy Vintage , where I once found an excellent wool skirt covered in hand-stitched ducks . I always love to stop by a picturesque flower stand situated in an alleyway on the same street and pet Luna, the shop dog.

After you get your shopping in, head down to Lake Merritt for a stroll. Historically known as “the Jewel of Oakland”, the lake is a popular meeting or strolling place. On a typical weekend day, expect to see the shores lined with picnicking Oaklanders, stands selling food and locally made goods, and lots of wildlife. The full perimeter of the lake is 3.1 miles (5km). I recommend starting at the pergola on the north end and wandering past the bonsai garden towards the Oakland Museum of California , just a half-block walk from the lake, for an afternoon of art.

Kari Paul on the ferry from Jack London Square in Oakland to San Francisco.

After the museum, you can walk to the Lion Dance Cafe in downtown Oakland. The award-winning, farm-to-table restaurant offers an often-changing menu of Teochew-Singaporean and Cali-Italian family recipes. They do not take reservations or preorders, so prepare to wait in line – it’s worth it! Though they offer sit-down dining, I recommend getting the food to go and driving up to Joaquin Miller Park for a beautiful panoramic view of the sunset over the bay. If you can get there before it’s dark, check out the redwood trees in the park as well. They’re breathtaking.

Day 2: Souvenirs & Splurges

A woman eats a flatbread at a counter.

If you are coming from Oakland and want to get to San Francisco on your tour of the Bay Area, there is no better way to do so than by ferry. Park your car in Jack London Square and take the boat route marked for the Ferry Building in San Francisco. If you arrive on a Saturday, there will be a farmers’ market brimming with local fruits and vegetables. No matter what day you visit, the Ferry Building is full of food stands and other shops. You must stop by Arab street food purveyor Reem’s . The Ferry Building location is an outpost of its main restaurant in the Mission and its menu features its signature varieties of man’oushe (a homemade flatbread). Also in the building is the Fog City Flea Trading Post , a cute stop for vintage clothes, jewellery and San Francisco souvenirs.

Take the train to the Mission District , perhaps my favorite neighborhood in San Francisco. Along Valencia Street you’ll find vintage shops and stores selling goods from local artists. My personal favorite is Paxton Gate , an oddities shop that sells everything from crystals and candles to teeth and taxidermy. While you’re in the Mission, be sure to turn down one of the street-art-filled alleyways for a free outdoor gallery of sorts.

Of course, everyone wants to see the Golden Gate Bridge when visiting San Francisco, but rather than book a touristy bike tour, I recommend seeing it from Lands End – the national park which to me is the most beautiful place in the city. Take an Uber there and wander around the Sutro baths. A now-defunct public recreation center that opened in the late 1800s, the Sutro baths featured massive pools, an ice-skating rink and an amphitheater. Today, all that remains are the ruins, which make for a beautiful place to watch the sunset.

A woman and her children smile on a ferry as a couple look on in the background.

For a dinner splurge, I highly recommend Nari , a Thai-Californian restaurant inside the Hotel Kabuki in Japantown. Afterwards, wander to the neighboring Japan Center malls to buy kitschy toys and eat soft-serve matcha or sesame taiyaki ice-cream (from a fish-shaped pastry) at Uji Time Dessert . Close out the evening at the Do Re Mi Music Studio , across the street, a karaoke spot with private rooms available by the hour.

Day 3: Hit the Road

One of the best parts of living in the Bay Area is how easily accessible beautiful natural landscapes are. There are countless day trips you can take from Oakland and San Francisco, but if I had to choose my favorite it would be Bodega Bay – a stunning unincorporated area in Sonoma county along the coast.

A foggy landscape with green hills dropping into the ocean.

Drive up Route 1 and take the long way, stopping at Point Reyes Station and enjoying the beautiful scenery along the shoreline there. Many hikes and beach walks can be found along the way. Keep an eye out for seals. I highly recommend staying at the Lodge at Bodega Bay – which is a relatively affordable luxury experience with room rates starting at $280. As someone who loves birding, this is truly a dream location for me as the Lodge overlooks a protected nature preserve full of wildlife. Relax in the hotel’s infinity hot tub, take a dip in the pool or enjoy its spa amenities. It also has a great on-site restaurant.

While in Bodega Bay, you can also stop by the church where the classic Hitchcock thriller The Birds was filmed. Of course, you will be in wine country, so if that’s your thing check out some local vineyards. I am always sure to drive a little farther up the coast for a stop in Jenner , a tiny beachside town with great hiking trails and kayak rentals. A must-see is Cafe Aquatica , where you can enjoy a coffee overlooking the water and occasional live music. With spotty cellphone service, sitting alongside the water where the river meets the Pacific Ocean and watching seals play on rocks and kayakers float by will make you feel worlds away from life’s responsibilities. Amazingly, though, you’re less than a two-hour drive from San Francisco.

Kari Paul is the Guardian US’s tech reporter. When she’s not working, she’s birding, crocheting and exploring California

Tour Activity Level

The activity level for this tour:

You’re a leisurely traveler. You typically take it easy and discover the energy of a new place by people-watching or soaking in the atmosphere at a local café. You can climb at least one flight of stairs, board a coach, and walk unassisted at a relaxed pace for up to 60 minutes without difficulty. You can easily handle altitudes up to 5,000 feet.

You like a balanced approach to travel. Walking two to three miles over the course of a day is no problem for you. You can partake in a two-hour leisurely walking tour, covering up to two miles (with included breaks). You can handle a variety of terrains, from cobblestone streets to moderate hills with relative ease and without assistance. You can climb two flights of stairs with ease. There may be 1 to 2 days on this tour when walking tours can cover 3 to 4 miles over uneven terrain. You can handle altitudes up to 6,000 feet.

You’re an on-the-go traveler. You don’t want to miss a thing, so walking and standing for longer periods of time (2-3 hours) isn’t a big deal. A moderately paced two-and-a-half-hour walking tour, covering several miles, hills, and uneven surfaces, is no problem for you. Walking four miles over the course of a day is very doable, as is climbing into and out of various modes of transportation (tuk-tuk, cable car, zodiac, etc.). You can climb three flights of stairs easily and handle altitudes between 6,000 and 9,000 feet. Expect some longer days balanced with free time to recharge or set out on your own adventure. This level is not a fit for travelers who require mobility assistance devices.

You’re ready to seize the day, whatever it may bring. You lead an active life at home (walking, biking, and half or full day hikes are things you may enjoy) and 10,000 steps a day is normal for you. You can handle longer walking tours (more than 3 hours covering 3+ miles at a steady clip) and activities that involve traversing uneven terrain, steep slopes, standing for periods of time, and varying altitudes and temperatures. You don’t mind being on the go with some early starts, late-nights, and full days. You can handle altitudes of 9,000 feet or higher with little to no issue. This level is not appropriate for travelers who use wheelchairs, walkers, and other mobility assistance devices.

'princess bride' star cary elwes had $100k in valuables stolen from home, 'princess bride' star cary elwes someone's stealing from me ... missing stuff worth $100k, exclusive 90 3/6/2024 1:00 am pt.

Cary Elwes has some trouble in his own castle ... 'cause he told police a lot of valuables are missing from his home, and officers think it might be an inside job.

Law enforcement sources tell TMZ ... the 'Princess Bride' star is the latest celebrity to fall victim to a recurring crime wave in Los Angeles -- this after the actor discovered a boatload of cash, art and jewelry missing from his Malibu estate.

We're told Cary's lost goods are valued in the 6 figures -- about $100k, more or less, according to sources with direct knowledge. We're also told the current working theory is this isn't a smash-and-grab job ... like we've seen recently with a rash of celeb home burglaries.

Instead, cops say they believe someone on Cary's home staff might have swiped the items from his place, possibly over several years, and it allegedly went undetected ... until now. Our sources say it's unclear what finally made Cary realize a bunch of stuff was missing ... but once he was wise to it, he reported it to the police.

The violation of his home has gotta feel like a streak of bad luck for Cary -- remember, we broke the story about him suffering a rattlesnake bite in April 2022, when he had to be airlifted for immediate treatment.

As for the alleged theft, we're told the L.A. County Sheriff's Department is investigating. We've reached out to Cary ... no word back yet.

Efficient and adequate time frames . Meals good for the most part. Saw a lot of the country with a great guiy .

Beautiful and informative tour!

The best thing about this tour was being able to see the entire country and learn the history. The only negative was not being able to always be on our own in some of the little towns because of our schedule.

I loved it all. Could use more time in Dublin. Maybe skip Croke Park

Gerald Maillard

Jewels of ireland was a comprehensive tour of the island.

We hit many 'hot spots'. 1) Five Star - The driver, Tony Byrne was knowledgeable, entertaining, and safe on the winding back roads. 2) Four Stars- Most of the hotels were very nice, with pleasant staff & nice amenities. The Kinsale hotel had exceptional vistas, although dinner was the most mediocre included meal on the trip. The Skellig Dingle hotel was great top to bottom. I would not stay at Treacey's Oakwood Hotel in Shannon again - dirty, unresponsive staff. Galway Bay Hotel & The Mill Park Hotel in Donegal were very nice & had great locations & staff. While the Knightsbrook resort was a very fancy hotel, we could have skipped it & spent another night in Belfast. The Croke Park Hotel was great & a 15 min walk to the river. 3) 4.5 Stars - The sights we did hit were fantastic. - Dublin speaks for itself. - *The 'Walking Tour of Kinsale' was OUTSTANDING, led by historian & author Barry Moloney. - A pass by Rock of Cashel & a visit to Blarney Castle were awesome. - *The Dingle Peninsula in County Kerry was breathtaking, & the Blasket Islands museum was great. - Cliffs of Moher were 'as advertised'. Dinner & show in Knappogue Castle was great! Sheep dog demonstration in the Burren in County Clare was surprisingly fascinating. - the cruise on the Killary Fjord was incredible as was the trip to Kylemore Abbey Castle - STUNNING - The Cliffs of Sliabh Liag (Slieve League) were amazing. - Walking tour of Galway was a waste of time - horrible guide (I drink here. I drink there. There used to be a store here.). _ *Walking tour of Derry" was OUTSTANDING - historian Sorcha Donner was our guide & told us facts about Derry past & present. UNESCO World Heritage site - The Giant's Causeway was awesome. Tour of Croke Park Skyline tour was excellent! - * The FOOD everywhere was great - from fresh seafood to lamb to brown bread. (Special shout out to the Oslo Tavern in Galway that had the most fantastic seafood chowder EVER & in Dingle at the Reel Dingle Fish Co for INCREDIBLE choices of fresh fish for lunch). 4- Downside - We were rushed. - ***We did NOT see "Brú na Bóinne". Many people on the tour had looked forward to this & we were not told before the day that we were supposed to visit (according to the itinerary provided) that they could not fit it in. - We did NOT see "The Nine Glens of Antrim". - We spent a total of 13 hours in Belfast including sleep. - We only had 2 hrs at Blarney Castle & there was a 1 1/2 hr wait to see the Blarney Stone. Only a drive by the Rock of Cashel for photo shot. - We had 2 "Stop & Shop" stops at "preferred shopping partners" - prices were higher than in any of the towns for the same brands. On balance this was an excellent tour. The knowledgeable driver guide, 2 GREAT walking tours in Kinsale & Derry, Great food across the country, gorgeous scenery & castles, free time to interact with friendly Irish people all over, & all the side tours included in the price - all made this very enjoyable.
