The collection consists of fringe and embroidered manila shaw, ruffled taffeta gowns, knitted two-piece outfits, and many more.
The Dior Cruise collection was opened with a hypnotic performance by flamenco dancers, soundtracked by violins, and accompanied by 60 dancers in voluminous red dresses. The runway show was opened with fringe and embroidered manila shaw paired with high waist trousers and suspenders. The outfit pays tribute to the influence of Carmen Amaya, a trailblazing 20th-century flamenco dancer with exceptional skills. Carmen Amaya broke down the rigid gender barriers by performing in men’s clothing.

The collection presented by the luxury fashion house also reflects the cultural and creative exchange between the house’s heritage and the tradition of Spain.
The cruise collection by Maria Grazia Churi is highlighted by diversity in the design of lace in romantic and feminine outfits. The floral patterned prints were another highlight of the cruise collection.

Dior Cruise 2023 Collection
For Maria Grazia Chiuri , the Dior cruise 2023 collection is a journey of discovery and reflection. The locations chosen provide a spectacular backdrop for a procession of garments that come together to form a défilé, echoing the history of the House and its desire to seek out original collaborations inspired by their native territories.
The icon of this collection is La Capitana, the name given to Carmen Amaya. With her freedom to dance that did not submit to any rule, she represented the essence of Flamenco. An artist with singular, revolutionary movements, she was the first dancer in her field to dress in men’s clothing, combining power and fragility through her art. Expressing the soul of Spain, she continues to embody a conscious and plural femininity.
From the spring-summer 1956 haute couture Bal à Séville dress – designed by Christian Dior – to the Plaza de España – built for the 1929 Ibero-American Exposition to embrace the richness of the cultures that have shaped Spain and represent its multitudes – real and metaphorical places abolish borders by rethinking the dress codes that inspire fashion. In this intense atmosphere, depicted in the chiaroscuro of some of Goya’s paintings and through the words of Federico García Lorca, a creative process was born, melding fascination, homage, interpretation and restitution.
Among other references, the looks evoke the Duchess of Alba, a legendary character who rode horses with Jackie Kennedy in a short jacket, high-waisted pants and a wide-brimmed hat worn on an angle. But also, red, black, and mantillas. Elsewhere, the abundance of embroidery that adorns the venerated Madonna della Macarena’s gowns takes on the role of a sacred ritual in a choreography that suspends the body into an iconic image.
The emblematic Manila shawl retells the stories and journeys of the communities that created and wore it. The tale of these nomadic objects is narrated using multiple voices: note the men’s pinstripe suits, the pants worn with suspenders, the silk-lined waistcoats; the white shirts; the Andalusian horsemen’s pants; the short jackets adorned with brandebourg closures; the trimmed boleros that make the silhouette even more slender; the sleeves that can flare out like a cape. Shimmering taffeta – in red, yellow, ochre, black – is sculpted into exuberant skirts that symbolize both Dior and Spain. Carefully considered volumes elevate the contrasts; lace appears in manifold forms; the Bar jacket is reinvented in black velvet embroidered with various gold threads.
This Dior cruise event is thus transformed by Maria Grazia Chiuri into a meeting of emotions and intentions, conveying an idea of fashion that is both of the everyday and of the extraordinary, wherein the creations celebrate the multiplicity of the visions of femininity.

The Profound Reveal of The Dior 2023 Cruise Collection
Christian Dior’s latest 2023 Cruise Collection was uncovered in Seville, Spain, designed by the honorable Maria Grazia Chiuri.
- Author: Maddie Street

On June 16th, Dior unveiled their latest Dior 2023 Cruise Collection at the infamous Plaza De España in the heart of Seville, Spain. The location was chosen to provide a spectacular backdrop for a procession of garments that come together to form a défilé and provide the space for these creations to honor various expressions of femininity and to celebrate the long-standing relationship between Dior and Spain which dates back to the early 1950s.
Dreamt up by Dior’s infamous creative director, Maria Grazia Chiuri, who was inspired by Andalusian traditions and artisanship made her mission to engulf herself in the historical traditions, crafts, and female icons of this region of southern Spain for months prior to the shows debut. She chose to center the collection around the legendary flamenco dancer La Capitana, the name given to Carmen Amaya.
To Chiuri, La Capitana represented the essence of Flamenco with her freedom to dance that was unconventional and did not submit to any regulation. An artist with singular, revolutionary movements, she was the first female dancer in her field to wear men’s clothing, symbolizing power and fragility through her art. Paralleling these inspirations, the looks evoke, for example, the Duchess of Alba, a legendary character, horseback riding with Jackie Kennedy.
“She is the symbol for this collection and brings us back to the realities of flamenco with her performing that does not submit to any canons. A revolutionary artist of extraordinary deeds, who through the gesture of dance combines strength and fragility. She is capable of depicting the soul of Spain and interpreting a conscious feminine idea that is feminism,” says Maria Grazia Chiuri
The emblematic Manila shawls, which took three generations of women to produce, tells all the stories and journeys of the communities that created and wore it, allowing for the multiple voices of these nomadic objects to share their truths through the silhouettes. At the intersection of these encounters is an exuberant display of traditional Andalusian savoir-faire.
The fringed and embroidered Manila shawls were made by Maria Jose Sanchez Espinar. The embroidery technique it displays came from China, with the shawls imported to Seville in the seventeenth century. It has become one of the most emblematic Spanish accessories, notably worn by the women painted by Goya and Velázquez. From Seville, it spread to Latin America, demonstrating how artisanship is a global language with the power to connect far-away cultures and places. The atelier has developed a series of traditionally embroidered shawls with quintessential Dior details.
For the 2023 Dior cruise collection, Maria Grazia Chiuri collaborated with Javier Menacho Guisado to reinvent the Dior Saddle bag using special leather embroidery methods.
The hats were created by the Fernandez Y Roche atelier and inspired by images of the Duchess of Alba riding with Jackie Kennedy. Duchess of Alba was also seen in a short jacket, high-waisted pants and a wide-brimmed hat worn on an angle. But also, red, black, and mantillas. Elsewhere, the abundance of embroidery that adorns the venerated Madonna della Macarena’s gowns takes on the role of a sacred ritual in a choreography that suspends the body into an iconic image.
Shimmering taffeta in red, yellow, ochre, and black is sculpted into exuberant skirts that symbolize both Dior and Spain. Carefully considered volumes elevate the contrasts.

VIVA ESPAÑA: After Greece last summer , Dior is alighting in the southern Spanish city of Seville for its cruise 2023 collection.
Maria Grazia Chiuri , artistic director of women’s collections, will unveil her creations on the expansive Plaza de España on June 16, the house revealed on Monday. Built for the Ibero-American Exposition of 1929, it mixes elements of the Baroque Revival, Renaissance Revival and Moorish Revival styles of Spanish architecture.
Shaped like a half-circle, the plaza is surrounded by buildings that today are used mainly by government institutions, and is lined with tiled alcoves, each representing a different province of Spain. The buildings are accessible by four bridges over the moat, which represent the ancient kingdoms of Spain, with a large fountain located in the middle.

“The ties between Dior and Spain, and more specifically Andalusia, were forged as early as the 1950s, and have been strengthened ever since, with journeys leading to silhouettes bearing evocative names dreamed up by Monsieur Dior and his successors,” Dior said in a statement.
Among others, Christian Dior , the founder of the house, named a 1954 dress “Nuits d’Espagne” and a 1956 model “Bal à Séville.”
Chiuri will continue her tradition of collaborating with local craftspeople on the annual collection, which has the potential to significantly boost tourism revenues in its destination. Last year the house rolled out a series of videos about the Greek archeological sites that inspired her designs.
Overall, Dior is ramping up its schedule of physical displays, with plans to show its pre-fall 2022 women’s collection in Seoul on April 30, and to hold its first runway show for the men’s spring line, which is also a pre-collection, in Los Angeles on May 19. This will be followed by summer men’s ready-to-wear collection in Paris on June 24, and the fall haute couture collection in early July.
