PXG 0211 vs Tour Edge Exotic C721

Looking for a new driver. I currently have a no name 15 year old driver. Just a little about myself, 52, moderate swing speed and a handicap of 20.

The Tour Edge seems like a great driver for a great price. I have seen many reviews and it is comparable to top brands in distance, spin etc.

Not sure I am being swayed by the low price of the PXG. Seems to good to be true. I have seen the reviews. Seems good.

Anyone swing these and can give me reviews. Only three dealers for Tour Edge here and PXG it seems you must buy and take a blind swing at liking it.

I have the PXG 0211 driver and I think it’s great. Definitely a fairway finder for me. PXG does have a return policy but I think they charge a “restock” fee. I believe @Vinsk uses one as well.

Thumbs Up

Which shaft did you end up going with?

I got the Evenflow Riptide CB 50g.

I don't have direct experience with either driver but I did read yesterday that the Tour Edge is in heavy use on the PGA Champions tour even among players not signed to Tour Edge. I took that as a pretty strong endorsement of it.

I bought the Wilson Launchpad Driver a few weeks ago it's not terribly expensive , I'm a higher handicap than you but I've liked it so far. It gets the ball in play for me at over 200 yards and I've even used it off the deck a few times from a good lie with success.

I noticed that. Never realized it until I started researching it. Went and hit it today. Good driver. Good feel, forgiving and I like the look and sound.  going back in a day or two to try out the TS1 and 2, sim2 max and epic max. They seem better for slow swing speed players like me from my research.

You may want to try the Ping G425 too, I am a new player and I don't have a very high swing speed. I got the G425 5 wood last Saturday and I was very impressed. I made several shots over 200 yards with it which is great distance for me. They had a lot of shaft options including light weights and flexes.

I can only imagine the driver is of similar quality with a lot of options.

I bought the 5 wood new but I have bought a bunch of my other clubs noted as 'used' from Second Swing golf and can tell you the ones that had a 9.0 rating still had plastic and had never been used.

ChetlovesMer

I hate to muddy the waters, but you may also want to consider the Cobra Speed Zone? It's uber inexpensive, and still available brand new in a lot of places. Great driver. I have the Rad Speed today, but I don't think you are likely to be able to tell the difference between the two... except for the price.

My bag is an ever-changing combination of clubs.

A mix I am forever tinkering with.

Cobra was in my sites. Even the newer ones. It all came to funnel today. About to post what I ended up going with.

Best value driver among PXG 0211/0811X Proto and Tour Edge EXS Pro/220

Right now, PXG 0811X Proto is 249, 0211 is 199 (but changed to 229), TE EXS Pro is 249, and TE EXS 220 is 199....

I understand that I should get fitted but it is somewhat difficult to try them out in person.

What would be the best value among these four? I understand Mavrik from CPO does have similar values as well.

What are your thoughts? All of these are very interesting but wanted to see what your opinions are.

Thanks in advance.

Interested in this topic. I have both the Mavrik SZ and the 0811X. I’ve been playing the SZ with a Smoke Yellow 6.5 as of late and have really seen an increase distance and it looks better than I remember it looking to my eye at address. I picked up the 0811X because of the price and I was struggling with distance with the SZ and thought I needed more forgiveness.  The knock on the SZ for me now is that mishits suffer a bit….so I found a Rogue ST Max LS here on BST, naturally.

I have a Tensei 1k coming for the 0811X as well.

So some answers coming in the next few weeks.

PXG 0211 vs Gen 4 Driver: Which Golf Club Reigns Supreme?

Looking to elevate your golf game with a new club? The PXG 0211 and Gen 4 Driver are two powerhouses in the golfing world, each vying for the top spot in your golf bag. But which one reigns supreme?

PXG 0211 and 0811 Gen 4 drivers’ main differences are the spin rate and head design. The 0211 offers a higher spin rate and deeper face for accuracy, while the 0811 Gen 4 provides a lower spin rate with a shallower face for maximum distance.

In this article, we’ll dive deep into both clubs’ features, performance, and design to help you make an informed decision.

PXG 0211 vs gen 4 driver: What are the differences?

The PXG 0811 X Gen 4 driver offers a lower spin rate compared to the PXG 0211 driver, which produces a slightly higher spin rate.

The low spin rate of the 0811 drivers can help golfers attain maximum distance off the tee, while the 0211 drivers can help provide more accuracy and control.

Head Design

The head design is one of the most noticeable differences between the PXG 0211 driver and the PXG 0811 Gen 4 driver.

The PXG 0211 driver features a deeper face and a smaller crown, giving the driver more power and distance.

On the other hand, the PXG 0811 Gen 4 driver has a shallower face and a larger crown, which can provide increased forgiveness and consistency on off-center strikes.

Adjustability

The 0811 XF driver offers the ability to dial in the weighting, making it an ideal choice for golfers who want to adjust their clubs to work with their changing game or fine-tune their club setup.

If you prefer a neutral setup without the need for adjustability, the 0211 driver may be a more cost-effective option.

Shaft Material

The PXG 0211 driver features a carbon-fiber shaft, while the 0811 Gen 4 driver has an aluminum shaft.

The choice of shaft material may affect the speed and spin of the ball, so it ultimately comes down to personal preferences and your specific golfing needs.

Forgiveness and Ball Speed

The PXG 0211 driver is designed for forgiveness and explosive ball speed. It features precision weighting in the back of the club, head down in the sole to increase forgiveness.

In comparison, the 0811 Gen 4 driver, specifically the 0811 X model, is optimized for high launch and low spin, delivering more distance and control for golfers with a downward attack angle.

Aesthetics and Design Philosophy

The PXG 0211 driver has a simple and refined aesthetic, which is part of its purist approach to product design.

The PXG 0811 Gen 4 drivers, available in three models – XT, X, and XF – each come with advanced technology and fitting options that cater to a wider range of golfer preferences and swing characteristics.

PXG Gen 4 vs 0211 Driver: Which one is better?

Determining which driver is better between the PXG 0211 and the Gen 4 driver, depends on your personal preferences, golfing needs, and budget.

The PXG 0211 driver is an excellent choice if you are looking for a more affordable option that still delivers impressive performance, forgiveness, and explosive ball speed.

This driver is well-suited for golfers who want a high-quality driver without breaking the bank and are not concerned about advanced adjustability features.

On the other hand, the Gen 4 driver is better for golfers who value adjustability, advanced materials and are willing to invest more in their equipment.

The 0811 Gen 4 driver offers various models (XT, X, and XF) that cater to different swing characteristics and golfer preferences.

This driver is more suitable for skilled golfers and those looking to fine-tune their clubs for optimal performance.

If you’re in search of the ultimate golf club, you may find yourself torn between the PXG 0211 and the Gen 4 Driver. To help you make an informed decision, we’ve compiled a list of frequently asked questions about these two clubs. Here are the answers:

Is Adjustability A Factor In Choosing Between These Two Clubs?

Yes, the PXG 0211 offers adjustability in terms of weight placement, allowing you to fine-tune your ball flight. The Gen 4 Driver, however, does not have adjustable weights.

Which Club Delivers Better Distance?

Both the PXG 0211 and the Gen 4 Driver are designed to maximize distance, but the Gen 4 Driver’s improved aerodynamics may give it a slight edge.

Which Club Is More Suitable For High-Handicap Golfers?

The Gen 4 Driver’s forgiveness and larger sweet spot make it a great choice for high-handicap golfers who tend to have more off-center hits.

Does The Price Differ Significantly Between These Two Clubs?

The PXG 0211 is generally priced lower than the Gen 4 Driver, offering a more affordable option without compromising performance.

Can Either Of These Clubs Be Customized For Left-Handed Players?

Both the PXG 0211 and the Gen 4 Driver are available for left-handed players, ensuring that everyone can benefit from their performance.

Which Club Is The Best Choice For Low-Handicap Players Seeking Maximum Control?

Low-handicap players seeking maximum control may prefer the PXG 0211 with its adjustable weighting, allowing for fine-tuning of shot shape and trajectory.

PXG Black Ops Driver vs TaylorMade Qi10 Driver: Read Our Head-To-Head Verdict

The Black Ops is a really enjoyable driver to use. The acoustic and feel in particular are right out of the top drawer, as is the new aesthetic with its multi-material glossy crown. I found it a little light on ball speed compared to some other models I have tested in 2024 but the overall performance is excellent.

  • I really like the modern visual
  • The sound and feel are excellent
  • Really good all rounder
  • A little light on ball speed versus some competitors

Despite the Qi10 Max being the headline product of this family, the Qi10 might be my favorite driver of them all. It combines the best bits of both the Max and LS models for me to create an exceptional all-round performer.

  • New rounded head shape is excellent
  • Extremely forgiving at this spin level
  • Will appeal to a broad spectrum
  • Only loft adjustability - no moveable weights

PXG Black Ops Driver vs TaylorMade Qi10 Driver: Read our head-to-head verdict

PXG has produced some of the best drivers for distance in recent years and have really matured into the golf market with some excellent products. However, TaylorMade has been building premium drivers for a lot longer and has produced some of the best drivers in the game for many years now.

So, has PXG managed to challenge TaylorMade with its current offering, and which would be best for you to put in the bag? This head-to-head will cover some of the main categories you might look for in a driver to try and help you make a more informed decision.

Obviously, when it comes to choosing a driver you need to like what you are looking down on at address. Luckily, when it comes to the Black Ops driver from PXG, the design doesn’t disappoint.

It should be noted that when you place the driver behind the ball it does have a busier aesthetic than some players may like, however, our tester - who tends to prefer cleaner and more simplistic looks - felt that PXG had pulled off the ‘fussier’ design extremely well, with an all-gloss finish, simple gray accent graphics, and a carbon crown.

With the TaylorMade Qi10, the visual is much improved from its predecessor the Stealth 2 . Taylormade has done away with the red face we have grown accustomed to, which always somewhat divided opinion. The red has been replaced with a deep blue that looks great against the black crown of the Qi10 head. It also has a nice clean white line across the top that genuinely helps with alignment, along with a super clean gloss finish on the crown of the driver. At address, the new shape of the Qi10 looks great, with a lovely rounded finish that resembles the Titleist TSR2 driver , and the overall size of the head will inspire confidence for anyone who struggles with centering their strike.

In terms of the technology, PXG has done a good job with the distance output and forgiveness offered by this driver. Using a titanium alloy face, that PXG has dubbed ‘AMF Technology’, the brand has designed the face to bolster club strength while also boosting flexibility for improved ball speed. This feature also increases deflection off the face and is designed to help boost launch while reducing spin rate.

The tech that has been implemented in the Qi10 is all geared towards MOI and forgiveness. TaylorMade has stretched out the head shape giving it an 8mm longer profile from front to back. This moves the CG deeper into the head increasing its resistance to twisting. This also gives the Qi10 a larger footprint which will help inspire confidence and make it one of the best drivers for higher handicap golfers . Taylormade has taken advantage of these new dimensions and pushed weight into more extreme locations which provides a significant boost to the club's MOI. The 60 layers of carbon have remained in the face of the Qi10 along with the familiar twist face technology.

For any golfer looking for a premium-feeling driver, there’s no need to look any further than the PXG Black Ops. Our tester was impressed with the blend of a lively impact feel and pitch-perfect acoustics.

During testing, both the feel and sound off the face were impressive providing a powerful noise with a deep and lively impact sensation on well-struck shots. The overall stability of the driver was also very good, there was no sense of the club twisting at impact even when striking the ball at the very edge of the toe and heel which was certainly reassuring.

Performance

In terms of performance, the PXG Black Ops driver features three adjustable weights on the club sole, which are positioned to help fintune launch conditions. Our tester was very impressed with the overall performance profile offered. A strong combination of spin, launch, and playability makes the PXG Black Ops an excellent all-rounder.

The performance from the Qi10 was equally impressive and is right up there as one of the most forgiving drivers to come out in 2024. The dispersion from this driver off seriously mishit shots was outstanding, and the overall ball speed retention was excellent. With the Qi10 the spin levels were slightly on the higher side which is something to be expected when choosing such a high MOI driver, but this is easily remedied by simply dropping down the loft somewhat if required.

Which Club Should You Choose?

Choose the PXG Black Ops if....

- You value feel over speed

- You enjoy a busy aesthetic

- Sound is important to you

Choose the TaylorMade Qi10 if...

- You want more ball speed

- You require high levels of forgiveness

- You want to use the same driver as Scottie Scheffler!

PXG 0311 Black Ops Driver Review

More in drivers:.

Tour Edge Hot Launch C524 Driver Hot Launch E524 Driver

50 Words or Less

The PXG 0311 Black Ops driver improves on GEN6 with more forgiveness.  New face material powers higher launch and lower spin.  Remains the most adjustable driver in golf.

pxg vs tour edge driver

Introduction

No one does media events quite like PXG.  To give us the true Black Ops experience, we didn’t take commercial flights into Phoenix and shuttles to Scottsdale National, we parachuted from a decommissioned military plane onto the range at SNGC in the middle of the night.

Ok, that’s obviously not true (have you seen most golf writers?), but I don’t know that it wasn’t considered.

Parachute or not, I did travel to Scottsdale this past December to examine the latest release from PXG.  After their driver took the #1 spot in my bag in 2023, I was eager to see if the new PXG 0311 Black Ops driver could help this still-young OEM keep that spot for a second straight year.

pxg vs tour edge driver

The most obvious change to the PXG 0311 Black Ops driver is the look.  After several generations of matte finished crowns, PXG has switched to a gloss finish for Black Ops.  Still present are the light graphics around the trailing edge and the X alignment aid.  Another change you’ll notice in the bag is the carbon fiber plate on the sole .

At address, the 0311 Black Ops driver has a large footprint with a slightly triangular shape .  The look is a little more “stretched” than the 0311 GEN6 drivers, but it’s well proportioned.  PXG reports that most of their Tour staff is opting for this driver over the Tour-1, so it’s clearly fitting the eye of the best players in the world.

Check out the PXG 0311 Black Ops fairway wood HERE

pxg vs tour edge driver

Sound & Feel

From talking to PXG’s club design team, I knew they were extremely proud of the sound of the new PXG 0311 Black Ops driver.  Compared to the 0311 XF GEN6 driver [review HERE ], the first four primary natural frequency modes were raised by as much as 1,000 Hz.

What does that translate to?  An impact sound that’s staccato and punchy, a mid-pitch “crack.”   The Black Ops driver may be a little quieter than GEN6, but it’s close.

The feel of the 0311 Black Ops driver marries well with the sound.  Impact feels very solid  with a moderate pop off the face.  There’s excellent feedback through the hands.  During my fitting, I was able to identify my impact locations – verified by Trackman – from the first few swings.

pxg vs tour edge driver

Performance

PXG claims that their new 0311 Black Ops driver is more forgiving, longer, and more consistent than GEN6.  This would be an outrageous claim if they didn’t bring the data to back it up.  They did.

The two changes that drive this improved performance are the new face material and the use of composite in the sole.  Dubbed “AMF* Technology,” the proprietary titanium alloy in the face is stronger and creates higher launch (0.5*) and lower spin (200 RPM) compared to GEN6’s T-412.  PXG’s engineers stated that they’ve “never seen face material have this much change in performance.”  This change helps the 0311 Black Ops to be the highest launching driver while keeping its spin in the lower half of all drivers tested, per PXG’s data.  It was also the second longest (one foot short of first) in that testing, which included every significant driver on the market.

*AMF stands for Advanced Material Face in the official press materials.  The NSFW military acronym (look it up yourself) is equally fitting but funnier.

pxg vs tour edge driver

While that’s incredibly impressive, it’s the forgiveness that has players on Tour making the switch.  Comparing the PXG 0311 Black Ops driver to the 0311 GEN6 XF (the more forgiving version), the horizontal MOI (heel to toe) is up 3% and the vertical MOI is up 25% !  You’re going to hear a lot about 10K MOI this year, and this driver can hit that number with a small tweak to the stock weighting.  That translates to the tightest dispersion among all tested drivers – 400 sq. yds. (35%) better than the next closest OEM in total dispersion and 3 yards better in left-to-right dispersion.

My fitting and testing experience bore out both the enhanced forgiveness and the lower spin of the PXG 0311 Black Ops driver.  I trekked to Scottsdale with my December (read: worse than normal) golf swing.  The Black Ops driver didn’t turn every swing into gold, but not one ball was unplayable .  Most impressive to me was how off-center shots performed.  Toe and heel shots didn’t curve wildly.  Low and high impacts all flew on similar trajectories – no low, ballooning shots or high knuckleballs.  And, as eagle-eyed readers will have noticed, the spin of the Black Ops was so low that my fitter lofted me up to the 10.5 degree model.

Need lower spin? Check out the PXG Black Ops Tour-1 driver HERE

pxg vs tour edge driver

Finally, an important thing that has carried forward from GEN6 is PXG’s Precision Weighting Technology .  This is one of the reasons why I had the 0311 GEN6 driver [review HERE ] in my bag last year.  PXG gives their fitters and players more flexibility than any other OEM .  With three weight ports and individual weights ranging from 2.5 to 20 grams, you can tune the 0311 Black Ops driver to be anti-hook, anti-slice, and find any swing weight you deem comfortable.

pxg vs tour edge driver

Every OEM claims that they make drivers without compromise, but the PXG 0311 Black Ops driver really does check all the boxes.  It’s more forgiving than GEN6 while also being longer.  The “standard” version is so impressive that PXG Tour pros are eschewing the Tour models to game it.  If you want to hit your tee shots farther and straighter, book a fitting for Black Ops today.

Excellent review, thank you. There is so much hype on all of the newly released drivers that makes things very confusing. Your reviews are informative, concise and unbiased.

Matt, I noticed you reviewed both this new PXG offering and Callaway’s new Paradym AI Smoke Max. I’m curious, which one goes in your bag if you HAD to choose and briefly why?

Excellent reviews as always!

' src=

Thank you. I’d bag the Black Ops, largely because I’ve had more time with it, and I’ve gotten it dialed in to what I want/need. Objectively, both are excellent.

' src=

Great review (as always), I have the Gen 4 driver from PXG and I need to try this, looks like they have a winner here

' src=

Matt, this is my first time leaving a comment. I am excited to test this new PXG driver. How would it stack up to the new Taylormade lineup ?

I haven’t hit the new TM drivers yet, but I have no reason to believe that the PXG won’t be their equal in objective terms.

' src=

Wow !!! Great review. I will need to check this out soon. Thank you Matt !

' src=

Another great review Matt. You and your site have turned into my go-to for product reviews. You’re easy to relate to as you seem like the casual golfer as 99% of us are. Did you test this driver around the same time you tested Callaway’s new smoke driver and did you find your “miss” hits very similar? Manufacturers are touting how straighter and father your miss hits will be with their drivers this year. I was set on buying Callaway’s new Smoke AI, but after reading your review, PXG seems a viable option.

Thank you. Opening caveat: both drivers are excellent, and I could happily game either. That said, I’ll get into the weeds. My experience – and it’s 1/1, so take it for what it’s worth – is that the Black Ops did a better job keeping my misses in play AND long. The Paradym Ai Smoke MAX is exceptional when it comes to preserving ball speed, but I had more ability to hit hooks with it. Will that change as I spend more time with them and experiment with shafts? Maybe, but I also give the PXG an edge for having more weighting flexibility.

Thanks so much for this review. I have 5 PXG clubs in my bag and plan on completing the set this spring. I just had a total knee replacement and am currently in rehab. Once that is completed I will go to a fitting and add more irons, hybrids and a new driver. The PXG Hero Program will help with the price.

Another great review, Matt. High praise. I always want to know what you think. Thank you.

' src=

What is the weight adjustment required to reach the 10k MOI mark?

I believe you need to add about 5 grams to the head weight, probably 2.5 in the heel and toe.

' src=

Just curious what shaft was in the Black Ops? We have very similar swing speeds and angle…so just wondering. Sorry if I missed it in the review.

I was fit into the Fujikura Ventus Blue 6-X.

Thanks, that’s what I have in my Gen6

' src=

I know you commented that the spin was so low you had to throw a 10.5 in play… what were your spin numbers for center strikes and for toe strikes0, high on the face strikes?

' src=

Was fit today and ordered. 8 degree but with all the weight adjustments and shaft the club launches more like a 9. Super clean at address. Feel is incredible. Very forgiving and consistent finding fairways. My biggest take away after being dialed in at my local PXG store was how low the spin got compared to my current gamer. Pretty interesting, my current Driver which I’ve loved (I thought) I was averaging around 240-249 yds off the tee. Spin was well over 3300. PXG brought the spin down to around 2100-2200 pushing it and average yards got up to close to 260. Ball speeds increased significantly as well. Cant wait to get this in my hand on course. Well done article here. Accurate as usual.

Great to hear! I hope people read more stories like this and realize they could have another 10 yards available to them if they’d get fit.

' src=

bookmarked!!, I like your site!

' src=

Matt, Are these going in your bag (fairways also)? I owned some earlier versions of PXG. Drivers and thought they were good . I didn’t understand all the hate. I’m goona get fitted next week for black opps. I haven’t made up my mind yet what I’ll ultimately buy. I have tge Paradym tripe D but honestly don’t find it to be that forgiving. It’s either bomb s or low flying miss hits. Btw the Callaway UW 2021 have made it into the bag 17,21. They probably won’t be leaving anytime soon. Only complaint is I can’t get the 17 to launch very high even with a GD ad di . It would be the perfect windy links club . Thanks again Highly respect your opinions and taste!!!

It will definitely be in the running. The FW is a virtual lock. The driver will have a tough fight with GEN6 and probably the new PING.

' src=

Thanks for the great review. I just got fit for the Black Ops – current gamer is Ping G430 Max and the Black Ops was both longer and straighter. My misses carried 15 yards further in the air and were still on the fairway. Great club that brings out the best in miss hits and goes forever when you strike it.

' src=

Matt, I know you have more drivers to test and we’re in the middle of release season … but if you had to play a round tomorrow (given the weather, maybe a simulator round!), would this make the bag?

These Black Ops drivers look great. I love reading about the improved vertical MOI — my miss is more up and down the face than heel/toe, so that’s an important note for my game. I have some golf shop credit to burn, so my plan this year — during these stir-crazy winter months in the Chicago area — is to do a fitting at a brand-agnostic place for a “best of the rest” driver, and then book one at PXG to see if theirs beats that one. Since PXG’s been doing $25 fittings lately, there’s really nothing to lose.

I agree, PXG’s $25 fittings are impossible to beat.

If I were to play right now, I’d stay with my 0311 GEN6. I need to know my driver, and I haven’t had enough time with any 2024 club to know it. That said, the Black Ops will get a good chance when spring comes.

' src=

Based on your review I have booked a fitting . Your reviews always give me the information I need to be able to consider scheduling a fitting . Thanks for your input .

Great to hear, Ron!

' src=

Hi Matt We connected on the Big Bertha review and as you suggested I’ve arranged for a fitting in Toronto. Our weather is pretty much the same as yours in Chicago so you know there’s no hurry – but I’m really keen on seeing if I can find that elusive distance!! And I almost fell for your opening line about parachuting into Scottsdale:). Cheers

I was fitted for the Black Op driver today. The fitting was one of the most thorough I ever experienced. The ability to move head weights a rough gave me the exact line and trajectory I needed. Compared to my 2023 driver I gained 12-15 yards of distance. I probably will return for a fairway wood and hybrid fitting.

Would be curious what your early take is on this relative to G430 10k and the TSR2?

I have full reviews of the 10K here: https://pluggedingolf.com/ping-g430-max-10k-driver-review/ and the TSR2 driver here: https://pluggedingolf.com/titleist-tsr2-driver-review/

Performance. The 2022 PXG 0211 driver is a solid all-around performer that almost any golfer could easily throw in the bag. According to PXG's testing, the new 0211 is 1.7 MPH faster than the previous version, an unequivocally positive upgrade.

  19. PXG 0211 vs PXG 0311 Gen 5 Driver Review

On the other hand, the PXG 0311 Gen 5 is still forgiving but demands a higher level of precision in your swing due to its design for advanced players. Distance: While the 0211 provides good distance, the Gen 5 driver took my drives to the next level. It consistently delivered more yards off the tee, giving me an edge when playing longer holes.

  20. Tour Edge Exotics C721 Driver Review

The visual aspect that stands out most about the C721 is the shape of the clubhead. It has a stretched back look that makes it clear the driver intends to deliver on its promise of "Xtreme MOI" . 23. PXG 0311 Black Ops Driver Review

An impact sound that's staccato and punchy, a mid-pitch "crack.". The Black Ops driver may be a little quieter than GEN6, but it's close. The feel of the 0311 Black Ops driver marries well with the sound. Impact feels very solid with a moderate pop off the face. There's excellent feedback through the hands.
