The best London bus tour is this Hop-On and Hop-Off bus tour .

Click here to check prices and availability.

The best London bus tour if you want the classic sightseeing experience is this Big Bus Hop-On and Hop-Off Bus Tour and the best bus tour in London if you want something a bit different is this Spooky London Ghost Vintage bus tour.

They both have hundreds of amazing reviews, so there’s no going wrong.

London is a massive city that can be much easier to explore by bus, and there are plenty of London bus tours that will cater to your specific interests, whether that be music history, architecture, filming locations in London , or something else entirely!

If you want to see what your other options are, here are the best London bus tours that are definitely worth your time.

PS – booking in advance is highly, highly recommended so you don’t miss out.

Easy Guide: Best London Bus Tour Picks

Best classic bus tours in london, 1. big bus hop-on hop-off classic london tour.

⭐️  RATING:  4 out of 5 Stars, 7,300+ reviews | ⏳  TOUR LENGTH:  1-3 day pass | ✔️  BOOK NOW

Big Bus is the most iconic London bus tour and one of my favorite of the sightseeing tours that are hop-on/hop-off style.

Choose the red route if you have less time, or the blue route if you want to see more of London, and enjoy being whizzed around the city with information at each stop about what you’re looking at (the worst kind of bus tour is one where they don’t even tell you!).

Big Bus operate in multiple cities around the world, so the formula isn’t new in London, but it’s a tried-and-tested hop-on and hop-off tour, and that’s why it makes my list as the best one if you’re just going to do one bus tour in London.

2. Vintage London Bus Tour with Optional London Eye

⭐️  RATING:  4 out of 5 Stars, 370+ reviews | ⏳  TOUR LENGTH:  3 hours 30 minutes | ✔️  BOOK NOW

bus trips to london near me

The difference between this bus tour and a normal sightseeing tour is that you get to travel in style on a vintage London bus, not one of the ugly themed hop-on and hop-off bus styles.

The London Eye can also be included in your sightseeing ticket, which is a fantastic way to cover both at once as you’ll finish at the London Eye and not waste any time in traveling there (because the bus will take you!).

This is not a hop-on and hop-off variation, so this is also great if you don’t really need to get on or off and just want to sit and enjoy the views.

3. London Tootbus Must-See Hop-On Hop-Off Bus

bus trips to london near me

⭐️  RATING:  4 out of 5 Stars, 3,500+ reviews | ⏳  TOUR LENGTH:  1 hour 30 – 2 hours | ✔️  BOOK NOW!

Tootbus is newer on the scene in London when it comes to bus tours, but they’re doing amazing and have fantastic reviews and lots of repeat customers.

There are three different circuits to choose from to customize your London bus experience, and the upper deck is obviously the best place to sit (particularly when you’re going over the bridges!).

Tootbus is a great option for families with kids in London , as it has a little bit more of a casual vibe than the Big Bus options.

4. London Vintage Bus Tour with Thames Cruise

bus trips to london near me

⭐️  RATING:  4 out of 5 Stars, 170+ reviews | ⏳  TOUR LENGTH:  4 hours | ✔️  BOOK NOW

Want to combine your London sightseeing bus tour with a Thames river cruise?

This is your best bet!

So many people want to do both during their time in London, and this is a great option for that, combining land and river for an epic sightseeing day out.

For the record, I prefer doing a sightseeing cruise with sightseeing bus in the warmer months, and a sightseeing bus with the London Eye (a previously listed tour – scroll up a bit) during the colder months just for comfort.

5. Golden Tours Hop-On Hop-Off Sightseeing Bus

bus trips to london near me

⭐️  RATING:  4 out of 5 Stars, 600+ reviews | ⏳  TOUR LENGTH:  1 day | ✔️  BOOK NOW

Golden Tours offer a hop-on and hop-off sightseeing tour around London that rivals the other big companies, and they are easy to spot with their blue and orange coloring.

I love that the front of the upper deck is covered in case the weather is bad, while the back of the top is open to the elements in case the sun is shining (or you just want to brave it!).

They do audio tours instead of live guides on their buses, so it’s better if you want that pre-recorded experience or have already tried Big Bus or Tootbus.

Best Night Bus Tours in London

6. london by night open top sightseeing tour.

bus trips to london near me

⭐️  RATING:  4 out of 5 Stars, 540+ reviews | ⏳  TOUR LENGTH:  1 hour 30 minutes | ✔️  BOOK NOW

London is completely different at night , and even if you’ve done a London sightseeing tour during the daytime, a London bus tour at night is such a memorable experience that I recommend to all visitors.

This tour takes you all around the most iconic London attractions to see them lit up and sparkling in the dark, including the bright lights of the London Eye, the Tower of London , and the iconic Westminster Abbey.

You’ll get to see a side of the city that many people never see, and it can be a great thing to do on your first night in London to try and beat that jet lag.

7. London Christmas Lights at Night Bus Tour

⭐️  RATING:  4 out of 5 Stars, 130+ reviews | ⏳  TOUR LENGTH:  1 hour 45 minutes | ✔️  BOOK NOW

bus trips to london near me

Deck the halls in London with a beautiful Christmas lights bus tour during the winter season.

There is something so insanely magical about London in winter when the Christmas lights are on, and this tour will take you right down some of the most important streets like Oxford Street and Regent’s Street.

The best part is that on the upper deck, you’ll be right under and right up close to the lights, as well as have a great vantage point to lights on the sides of the street lighting up the shops.

It’s a really wonderful tour to take in London in the winter if you’re visiting around the holiday season, and one I recommend to my friends and family often.

Best Music Bus Tours in London

8. rock music bohemian soho and north london tour.

⭐️  RATING:  5 of 5 Stars, 12+ reviews | ⏳  TOUR LENGTH:  3.5 hours | ✔️  BOOK NOW

From Pink Floyd’s studio to the former home of Rod Stewart, the Rock Music Bohemian tour will take you through some of London’s most boho neighborhoods to let you into the world of rock music legends like The Clash, the Beatles, Sting, and so much more.

bus trips to london near me

You’ll get to take a bus around town, meaning you can hit more places than if you go on a walking tour, and along the way you’ll also get to enjoy the architecture and charm of Camden, Islington, and of course the iconic Abbey Road.

Listen to the music blasting from your bus as you tour around the city, perfectly timed with the stops, and enjoy this wonderful world of London rock music with an expert (and hilarious) guide.

9. London Rock Legends Bus Tour

⭐️  RATING:  4.5 out of 5 Stars, 350+ reviews | ⏳  TOUR LENGTH:  3 hours 30 minutes | ✔️  BOOK NOW

bus trips to london near me

Another fantastic option for music fans, the London Rock Legends bus tour is a great choice if you’re wanting to see Notting Hill, Soho, Chelsea, and more – and if those don’t ring a bell to you, think: Ringo’s House, Jimmy Page’s house, and tons of Queen-related locations.

You’ll zip around the city with your guide and leave feeling like you’ve truly learned something new about the musical history of London – this tour is similar to the one mentioned above, so choose which one works best for your schedule.

10. A Ticket to Ride: Beatles in London Tour

⭐️  RATING:  4.6 out of 5 Stars, 170+ reviews | ⏳  TOUR LENGTH:  2 hours 30 minutes | ✔️  BOOK NOW

Join the Beatles’ vibe on a chill evening bus tour through London, catching the city all lit up.

Cruise through the ‘Beatlemania’ era, from 1962 to 1969, and beyond, hitting up Mayfair, Marylebone, St John’s Wood, and the edge of Soho. Celebrate the ‘Fab Four’ spanning over 50 years.

Swing by cool spots like the Scotch of St James Club and other joints where the Beatles hung out.

Check out the pads and offices of the band members and their manager Brian Epstein, where they partied, met their significant others, and did their thing.

And, of course, take a casual stroll across the iconic Abbey Road crossing near the legendary recording studio.

11. London Rock Music Tour

bus trips to london near me

⭐️  RATING:  4.5 out of 5 Stars, 830+ reviews | ⏳  TOUR LENGTH:  8 hours | ✔️  BOOK NOW

Wanna dive into London’s rock history?

From where the Rolling Stones rocked their first record at ‘Tin Pan Alley’ to the famous Abbey Road zebra crossing, this tour has got it all covered.

Take your pick between morning, afternoon, or go all-in with the full-day London Rock Music Tour.

Check out Abbey Road, swing by Apple HQ, drop by Paul’s House, Ringo’s place, and Jimmy Page’s crib, plus a bunch more.

Your rock-savvy guide will dish out insider stories about your favorite musicians while giving you the lowdown on all things music.

Best Ghost Bus Tours in London

bus trips to london near me

⭐️  RATING:  4 out of 5 Stars, 480+ reviews | ⏳  TOUR LENGTH:  1 hour | ✔️  BOOK NOW

Join your spooky guide as you hit up notorious local haunts, hearing tales of restless spirits and passing by places with a dark history—St. Paul’s Cathedral, the Tower of London, and the infamous Fleet Street.

The cherry on top?

13. Comedy London Ghost Bus Tour

15. Brigit’s Afternoon Tea Bus in London

bus trips to london near me

Brigit’s is one of the most iconic afternoon tea buses in London, and you can’t go wrong with one of their afternoon tea bus tours .

In addition to the regular sightseeing tour, they also offer specialty afternoon tea London bus tours like ones for kids featuring Paddington, as well as ones during the holiday season where everything gets a good dose of Christmas as you look at the lights while enjoying tea.

COVID 19 UPDATE for travelers going into US

United States announced that beginning May 12, 2023, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) will no longer require non-U.S. travellers entering the United States via land ports of entry and ferry terminals to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and provide related proof of vaccination upon request. The restrictions are being rescinded in alignment with the end of the Public Health Emergency and the termination of the Presidential Proclamation on air travel which applied vaccination requirements to international air travellers.

Theatre dress code Theatregoers these days don't dress in black tie or ball-gowns so you can leave those at home. However 'being comfy' is the order of the day so smart but casual dress will be fine.

Etiquette You will be requested to turn off your mobile before the show starts. Also, cameras are prohibited. Don't spoil the enjoyment of others and refrain from talking when you shouldn't be.

When does the show start? Matinee performances start at around 2pm. Evening performances around 7-7.45pm. You'll need to be in your seat approx. 15-30 minutes prior to the show starting otherwise you’ll be let in at a convenient point in the show.

The Interval Should you wish to have a drink or snacks during the interval, order these before the show starts as it will prevent you having to queue.

Is it wheelchair friendly? Please note that the majority of theatres are very old and therefore do not necessarily cater for wheelchairs. It would be wise to enquire about facilities before you decide to book your tickets.

I'd like tickets for a Sunday or Bank Holiday performance? Nearly all West End theatres are only open Mon-Sat. A few now offer Sunday shows but they are an exception. Most theatres only close on Christmas Day.

What's the difference between The Stalls and Dress Circle? The Stalls are located on the ground floor. Dress Circle is the floor above The Stalls. Upper Circle (Grand or Royal) is the next one up. The Balcony is the circle above the Upper Circle.

Where are the best views? Some of the best views are from the middle of The Stalls. Be far enough back so you are not straining your neck. Good views can also be from Dress and Upper Circle. You’ll need binoculars for The Balcony.

What else can you do in London? Shop till you drop in Oxford Street, enjoy the entertainment in Covent Garden, have a wonderful meal in Leicester Square, cruise along The Thames or take a flight on the London Eye.

Where to eat before the show? There are usually a variety of cafes, bars and restaurants located within the vicinity of the theatre. If you mention to your waiter/waitress that you have theatre tickets, they will turn your meal around quickly for you.

Good Friday 29 March

Norman Jay

PASSION OF JESUS: Every Good Friday, Trafalgar Square is packed out with thousands of people gathering to watch The Passion of Jesus , a free retelling of the Easter story, with 100 actors taking part. Everyone's welcome, but it involves — spoiler — a crucifixion scene so may not be suitable for younger kiddies. Get there in plenty of time to get a space, as it's always a very popular event. FREE, 12pm/3.30pm

FISH FRIDAY: Fried seabass, steamed red bream, fish cakes and an array of other coastal Caribbean fare is on the menu at t he Windrush Generation Legacy Association in Croydon's Whitgift Centre this afternoon, for their Friday Lunch Club . The meal is followed by Carnival-themed fun with music, rum punch and more delicious food — this goes on till early evening. Meal 12pm- 1.30pm; Carnival fun 2pm-6pm

MESSIAH ON GOOD FRIDAY: For the 148th time, the Royal Choral Society performs Handel's Messiah at the Royal Albert Hall on Good Friday — a tradition that's only ever been interrupted by the Blitz and Covid. 150 singers are conducted by the choir's music director Richard Cooke, and accompanied by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and a quartet of soloists. 2.30pm

THE GREATEST MAGICIAN: Head to Fairfield Halls in Croydon to see magician James Phelan — who famously once 'predicted' the Lottery — in action in his new show. Magic runs in the family — he's the nephew of the late Paul Daniels, whose final theatrical project was directing this show. 7.30pm

BLOODY MARY LIVE: Comedian Olivia Miller performs in one-woman show Bloody Mary: LIVE , assuming the role of the teenage queen to tackle the issues in her life such as divorced parents, sibling rivalry and religious purges. See it at the Pleasance Theatre in Islington. 8pm (repeated tomorrow)

Various Cantonese dishes served on a table

GUARDS MUSEUM: Ever been to The Guards Museum on Birdcage Walk? Today's an excellent time to do so, as it's offering half-price entry for its Women's History Month celebrations. Events throughout the day include a chance to meet the women currently serving in Wellington Barracks, and try on a genuine Guardsman uniform. 10am-3.30pm

LOST IN SHANGHAI: Head to Cantonese restaurant Hakkasan Hanway Place for a Lost in Shanghai brunch, celebrating the Asian city. There's a set menu with a side of theatricality — think dim sum served among dry ice, a crispy duck salad, and stir fry black pepper rib eye with merlot. Cocktails and wine are available throughout, and there are live DJs and performances going on around you, evoking the spirit of Shanghai. 12.30pm-4.45pm

PADDINGTON IN CONCERT: Charming 2014 film Paddington is shown on a large HD screen at Royal Festival Hall , while the London Concert Orchestra performs the score live. In case you need a refresher, Paddington, a bear from Peru, moves in with the Brown family in London, proceeds to cause all kinds of havoc, and ends up in a face-off with a taxidermist. Age 7+, though it's one of those films that's as enjoyable for adults as it is for kids. 2pm/5.30pm

BOAT RACE: The Oxford-Cambridge Boat Races take place today. They'll be broadcast on TV as usual, but if you're keen to see them in person, get down there early to grab your spot — particularly if you're having to bag a pew at one of the pub gardens along the route. FREE to watch, 2.46pm (Women's) and 3.46pm (Men's)

Easter Sunday 31 March

The Boat Race going beneath a bridge on the Thames

CLOCKS CHANGE: A reminder that the clocks go forward an hour in the early hours of 31 March (which also happens to be Easter Sunday). The bad news is that we lose an hour, but the good news is that it heralds the start of lighter, brighter days.

EASTER FAMILY DISCO: Kids bouncing off the walls? Take them to Big Penny Social in Walthamstow, where there's a family Easter disco, complete with puzzles, interactive games, prizes and more. The first session of the day includes an Easter egg hunt too. 11am-4pm

Tuck into brunch dishes such as fried chicken waffles, a mezze board, or fish and chips, with the option to add on 90 minutes of bottomless drinks (Aperol spritz, bloody marys, mimosas or rum punch). BERMONDSEY HISTORY WALK: Parents and carers with babies are invited on a history walk around Bermondsey . CHAIR LIFT: The Blackheath Morris Men are doing the rounds in Greenwich once again — dancing outside various landmarks (many of them pubs) and performing the ancient ritual of chair-lifting. FREE, 12pm-5pm

COVENT GARDEN TOUR: Over the other side of the river, there's a walking tour around Covent Garden , open to all, and focusing on the lesser known parts of the area. • DebbJ 0 contributions 4.0 of 5 bubbles Great way to get oriented to Moscow We started our Moscow experience with the hop on hop off. It was a great way to get orientated to the city. The additional optional tours were also good, we did the Metro tour which I highly recommend, we also paid for the Kremlin tour. The hop on hop off has three different lines all included. Only fault was the bus was sometimes full and you had to wait for the next one which was about 15 minutes (in the cold). Read more Written January 6, 2020

They suggested we do the 1 hour boat trip and said they would drop us to the dock. 1) they dropped us in the wrong place 2) they were lost because of the marathon Then the boat, after we finally found it: 1) stinking fumes, actually gagging 2) no commentary, in fact, no interaction unless you begged 3) offered us 2 for 1 icecreams as they had melted and refrozen as the fridge gets turned off at night Honestly, we enjoyed the afternoon in the boat but spent all of it laughing at just how awful it was!!! The worst thing in Moscow! Read more Written August 18, 2019
  • niruDurbs 0 contributions 3.0 of 5 bubbles Not the best value for the price The ticket is quite expensive and covers three different routes in a 24 hour period. The red route is quite exciting and takes about an hour. The bus comes every 10 to 15 minutes. However the other two routes take about two hours each and buses come every 30 to 40 minute period. If the bus is full then you have to wait at the stop for the next bus. So personally I feel that not much can be seen this way. I definitely was not impressed. However it must be noted that one can learn a lot about the history of Moscow Read more Written July 3, 2019

  • Rebecca J 0 contributions 3.0 of 5 bubbles Boat element was excellent We purchased a ticket online for the boat and bus for 2 days. The boat element was wonderful, we saw some amazing parts of Moscow along the river side. The bus element was very disappointing as it only started at 10am and was finished by 6:30pm. It was extremely warm when we were there and it would have been great to do the tour in the cool of the day. There was also no air conditioning in the down stairs part of the bus. They also turned away passengers at one of the stops as the bus was full and there was not another bus for 40 minutes. Read more Written September 26, 2018

The ear phones were small and sometimes the commentary did not link up with the sites you were seeing. The green bus takes you on a longer route and ours took two and a half hours due to the heavy traffic. I would not recommend this trip unless it is raining or you want to fill in time. The sights we saw were nothing outstanding with plenty of time at certain stops for photos. Also the driver stop for a bite to eat at one stop. Read more Written July 30, 2018

  • WilliamDyer 0 contributions 1.0 of 5 bubbles Poor service on boat and too many waiting times on buses For the price, you should expect at minimum English speaking tour guides with decent experience, but at least in my case that did not happen both in buses and boats. And in the boat even tough we were 90% English speaking tourist at least, the tour guide spoke 95% of the time in Russia, and only 3 sentences in English, I really counted how many times she spoke in English. And at the end she asks us if we have any questions? Of course I told her I couldn’t ask her anything since I didn’t understand 95% of what she was saying. The boat tour is not worth it, just take the bus that would be my advice. Second minus is the waiting times, in the boat they made us wait an hour before it departed, and in many stops with the buses waiting times of 20-30 minutes. I actually think I lost that day around 2 hours doing nothing. Be careful. Read more Written July 10, 2018

St. Thomas-London transit connection big news for both cities, says advocate

A newly announced and highly anticipated bus route between St. Thomas and London is being praised as a boon for the region.

Officials in Middlesex County have made a deal to expand Middlesex County Connect  into St. Thomas, fulfilling a need that's been on the minds of area politicians for over a decade. The inter-community transit service already runs two lines connecting London to rural communities to its north and east.

"It's amazing news for the region as a whole," said Kelly Elliott, a former Thames Centre councillor who was involved in launching Middlesex County Connect in 2020.

"The mayors of London and St. Thomas, over the past 10 years, have been talking about putting a bus route together to connect the two cities and now it's Middlesex County that's stepping in to do that."

  • St. Thomas mayor seeks transit connection to London

The new upcoming pilot project was briefly announced by St. Thomas mayor Joe Preston at the end of Monday's council meeting, during which he touted the effect the route will have in allowing St. Thomas to be "connected to the outside again."

Kelly Elliott from Thames Centre.

With considerable industrialization in the area surrounding St. Thomas, including the Amazon fulfilment centre in Southwold, Ont., and the upcoming Volkswagen electric vehicle battery factory, the role the route will play in connecting employees with work can't be overstated, Elliott said.

That's part of why the benefits aren't just about bringing people out of St. Thomas, she added.

"There are lots of jobs and lots of industries in both in Elgin County and St. Thomas, as well as in Thames Centre and Middlesex County, so it's connecting that employment not just for people to get into the city, but outside the city."

The route will also allow people to step out of their vehicles, representing environmental and cost-saving bonuses as well, Elliott said.

Route details laid out

The new route, which is set to start on April 8, will start at the FlightExec Centre in Dorchester, passing through the Wilton Grove industrial Park and stopping at White Oaks Mall in London, according to Anum Maqsood, Middlesex County's community transportation project manager.

The route will then stop at Valleyview Home and St. Thomas's industrial area before reaching the St. Thomas Transit Hub, completing four round trips per day, Monday to Saturday, she said.

"This new route underscores our commitment to promoting connectivity and convenience, marking a significant milestone in our continuous efforts to improve regional connectivity and accessibility for our residents," Maqsood wrote in a statement to CBC News.

A one-way trip will cost $5, payable by cash, debit or credit, with free fare for children under six years of age, support people and veterans, she added.

It's not yet clear what the capacity of the bus on the route will be, however the service operates with minibuses on its existing routes.

The St. Thomas route, as well as the two already existing Middlesex County Connect routes, will be funded through the provincial Community Transportation Grant Program until March 31, 2025.

  • Future of rural public transit services uncertain despite more people getting onboard

In the past, Maqsood told CBC News that she had concerns over the approaching deadline at which provincial funding will run out, pointing to increasing ridership as an essential piece of the puzzle in keeping Middlesex County Connect running past 2025.

She did not comment on whether revenue from the upcoming St. Thomas route was expected to be enough to carry the service as a whole past next March.
