Kings Park & Botanic Garden
Top choice in Perth
The 400-hectare, bush-filled expanse of Kings Park, smack in the city centre and enjoying epic views, is Perth's pride and joy. The Botanic Garden contains over 3000 plant species indigenous to WA, including a giant boab tree that's 750 years old. Each September there's a free festival displaying the state's famed wildflowers. A year-round highlight is the Federation Walkway , a 620m path leading to a 222m-long glass-and-steel sky bridge that crosses a canopy of eucalyptus trees.
The main road leading into the park, Fraser Ave, is lined with towering lemon-scented gums that are dramatically lit at night. At its culmination are the State War Memorial, a cafe, a gift shop, Fraser's restaurant and the Kings Park Visitor Centre. Free guided walks leave from here.
It's a good spot for a picnic or to let the kids off the leash in one of the playgrounds. Its numerous tracks are popular with walkers and joggers all year round, with an ascent of the steep stairs from the river rewarded with wonderful views from the top.

Discover Beautiful Kings Park Perth WA – A Useful Guide
Kings Park Perth WA is a wonderful place to end your day, both as a tourist or a local. During Perth’s warm summer months (from November through to March) the city gets very hot. However, if you head up to Kings Park in the late afternoon you will often be rewarded with a refreshing breeze blowing off the Swan River. Without a doubt, Kings Park Western Australia is a perfect place to throw out a picnic rug for some wine and cheese, or even use one of the many BBQs around the park.
It sounds trite, but every time I head up to Kings Park Perth I just love it. As the world’s largest inner-city park it offers stunning views of the river, great picnic spots, lots of walks – and best of all solitude. Yes, that is right, it is easy to get out and find corners of the bush in the city. We also cover the best Kings Park Perth Accommodation at the end of the post, in case you want to stay nearby.

What is Special about Kings Park and Botanic Garden Perth?
Personally, I think that the most special thing about Kings Park Perth is the views across the Swan River and over the Perth city skyline. On a calm night, the river is slow and glistening. On other nights you can watch boats sailing on the river.
I love the feeling of being in the Australian bush, while also being in the middle of a city. There is a wonderful sense of tranquillity in the middle of Kings Park; even in the more visited areas, including the playgrounds. I should point out that Kings Park is one of the most visited places in Perth. There are over 6 million visitors a year.
I also enjoy the Botanic Garden Perth (technically the Western Australian Botanic Garden). It truly showcases the amazing floral beauty of this diverse state, with amazing wildflowers in spring and lovely trees all year round. In fact, I’ve listed Kings Park as the top place to see wildflowers in Perth .
Honestly, once you have had a picnic or barbecue at Kings Park, or enjoyed the moonlight cinema, or even done a bushwalk, you too will understand what makes Kings Park so special.
Perth City is located on the ancient country of the Whadjuk Noongar people, who have been the Traditional Owners of the south west of Western Australia for at least 45,000 years. Kings Park is situated on the land known as Kaarta Koomba, Kaarta Gar-up or Mooro Kaarta We acknowledge and respect the Whadjuk Noongar people as the traditional custodians of Kings Park – Always Was, Always Will Be Aboriginal Land.
Where can I see Kings Park Wildflowers?
The best place to see Kings Park Wildflowers is the Western Australian Botanic Garden – which features over 3,000 species of flora. Top spots to see native flowers are The Law Walk, Botanic Garden Discovery Walk and Bushland Nature Trail.
What is the best time to see the wildflowers of Kings Park?
A wonderful time to see the blooms is during the kings park wildflowers festival which is held every September in Kings Park, Perth. This is such a prolific display of flowers its been known as the “he Greatest Wildflower Show on Earth’
Top tip for visiting King’s Park, especially during the Wildflowers Festival We love the Kings Park Festival, but so does everyone else! We recommend to arrive early in the morning or go later in the afternoon; just last weekend (mid-September) we arrived at 9am and the main carpark was full and we were amongst a lot of cars doing ‘laps’. We returned the same day at 3pm and while the carpark was still full, there were people leaving and we got a carpark immediately.
Things to do in Kings Park Perth
Enjoy the kings park perth view.
The first thing you notice on arrival at Kings Park is the view of the Swan River and Perth city. It is just gorgeous!
State War Memorial and Flame of Remembrance
The Perth War Memorial and Flame of Remembrance are sobering but stunning places to start your tour of Kings Park Perth. In addition, there are a number of different sites and memorials dedicated to other groups involved in wars.
The Flame of Remembrance was inaugurated by Queen Elizabeth II on 1 April 2000. It burns continuously. It symbolizes the promise of all Western Australians: “w e will remember them” .
We think it is important to educate our children about the cost of war. Equally important the history of Australia (within a global context). War memorials certainly are somber places where the full impact of war is evident. The Perth War memorial is no exception.
Whispering Wall
The Whispering Wall at Kings Park is a part of the Flame of Remembrance. Don’t tell me how this acoustic magic works – but it does! If one person sits at one end and another at the other end of the Whispering Wall, and you both face into the wall and whisper – the other person can hear it as clearly as if the other person was sitting beside them. It’s lots of fun, especially if you are traveling with kids or those young at heart!
Fraser Avenue Tree Lights
Fraser Avenue is the stunning entrance to Kings Park and lined by towering lemon-scented gums. In the evenings, the canopy lights up with colored feature lighting ranging from simple white to a rainbow of colour. We were up there the other night and it was bright purple – wow!
The Western Australian Botanic Garden
Also known as Perth Botanic Garden or the Kings Park Botanic Garden, the Western Australian Botanic Garden Perth comes alive in springtime with a great wealth of wildflowers. Meandering walkways all around Kings Park provide a great opportunity for people of all ages to explore and discover the beautiful wildflowers while glimpses of the river and city from between the trees are inspiring.
Officially, the Western Australian Botanic Garden is a massive 17 hectares of gardens. It features a wide range of species from around Western Australia. Now, more than 50 years after opening, the Botanic Gardens Perth includes over 25% of Western Australia’s native flora. There are displays from specific regions, as well as gardens dedicated to popular Western Australian wildflowers like Kangaroo Paws and eucalyptus.
Especially if you don’t have much time to travel around Western Australia, the Botanical Gardens Perth provides wonderful insight and learning experience into the wildflowers and plants of this unique State. For more information about wildflowers of Western Australia take a look at our post Where To Find The Best Wildflowers In Western Australia .
Looking for Other Perth Botanic Garden Options?
There are a number of Botanic Gardens around Perth. One of our favorites is the Wanneroo Botanic Garden and mini golf which is like a lush oasis in the middle of the city. Another is the Araluen Botanic Park. They have a wide range of different species and an amazing Tulip Festival each spring. Take a look at Our Guide to Araluen Tulip Festival Perth .
Kings Park Festival (A Springtime Festival)
If you have a chance to program your visit to the Botanical Gardens Perth in September, we have one word of advice – just do it! Throughout September, as springtime comes to Australia, the wildflowers begin to bloom in Kings Park Perth and are truly an array of amazing colors. In addition to the gorgeous spring wildflower displays, there are free events including outdoor exhibitions, guided talks, inspiring art installations, music performances, and fun for the entire family.
In fact, the preparation for the Kings Park Festival goes all year round, with staff and volunteers planting wildflowers in advance, for you to enjoy their beauty during the Kings Park Festival. This is one of the secrets why Kings Park has the largest presentation of wildflowers from all across the state of Western Australia.
Kings Park Tree Top Walk
Unofficially known as the Kings Park Tree Top Walk, the Lotterywest Federation Walkway adds a bit of adrenalin to your experience of Kings Park.
Starting at the forest floor, you gradually climb towards the sky as you reach the highest point of the walkway. The Tree Top Walk Kings Park is truly an impressive structure that somehow blends in with the forest and landscape of the Botanic Gardens.
The highest point of the Kings Park Tree Top Walk offers great views across the Swan River and is 16 metres above the ground. The whole walkway is 620 metres long, with the aerial section being 222 metres including the 52 metre bridge. It is accessible by people with prams and wheelchairs, and well worth a visit to experience a different perspective of Kings Park.Speaking of Western Australia’s tree top walks, A Complete Guide to the Valley of the Giants Tree Top Walk Walpole Denmark is a great one!
The Giant Boab Tree
When you visit Kings Park Perth, make sure you stop to admire the Giant Boab Tree.
It is estimated to be 750 years old. The Giant Boab tree ‘Gija Jumulu’ weighs 36 tonnes and stretches 14 meters high and 8 meters wide (branch span). Its trunk measures 2.5 meters in diameter. When it was to be destroyed due to a road running through where it had grown, a rescue effort was mounted. In the end, it was transported over 3000 kilometers by truck from the Kimberley to Kings Park – a feat in itself!!
Pioneer Women’s Memorial
This is a memorial to the pioneer women who established Western Australia. While the symbolic figure of the mother with a child in the middle of the water garden is beautiful, our kids enjoy more the 3-minute sequence of the water fountain that gets bigger and bigger during the cycle.
The DNA Tower Kings Park
If you are looking to go to the highest point of Kings Park, then you need to climb the DNA Tower. This is a metal spiral staircase that is shaped like the double helix of DNA. It is free to enter and offers great views. If you are keen you can walk from the DNA Tower across to the May Drive Parkland and Playground. They are otherwise known as the Dinosaur Playground by my children.
Kings Park Walking Trails
As we have mentioned previously, Kings Park is the world’s largest inner-city park, being about 400 hectares in size. The vast majority of this park is actually bushland and quite isolated. One of the best ways to explore this experience of the Australian bush is on the bush tracks and cycle paths that wind around the entire park. The best place to find information is the Kings Park Botanic Gardens website .
Kings Park Bushland
Many first time visitors to Kings Park focus on the Western Australian Botanic Garden and the War Memorial area. They don’t realize that an incredible two thirds of Kings Park is bushland.
Locals love to walk or jog the trails and get away from the madding crowds. Especially in spring when grey-green bushland turns into expanses of colourful wildflowers. More info at Kings Park Bushland .
Moonlight Cinema Kings Park Perth
If you wish to do something special on a warm summer evening in Perth, the Moonlight Cinema Perth, which is run at Kings Park, is a great option. The Moonlight Cinema is located at the May Drive Parkland (also known as the Dinosaur Park or Synergy Playground). And, if you want more information on all the fantastic playgrounds in Kings Park, read our An Awesome Guide To Kings Park Playgrounds .
You can bring a BBQ to enjoy at one of the parklands BBQ areas. Also, the kids can play on the playground right up until the movie is about to start. Bonus!
If you are interested in a bit of a splurge, you can opt for a Goldgrass option to watch the movie. This option includes bean bags and waiters who can take orders for finger food like pizza or drinks.
Alternatively, you can take your own rug and food and lay out under the stars while watching the movie. Check out the Moonlight Cinemas website for more info.
Aspects of Kings Park

The displays are created in such a way that you are inspired to invest in these wonderful quality Australian pieces.
Don’t expect normal tacky souvenir shop items there. There are high-end decorative pieces for your home that are truly gorgeous. Aspects of Kings Park truly offers a distinctive shopping experience befitting one of Western Australia’s most visited and iconic location – Kings Park.
Frasers Kings Park
Frasers Kings Park has to be Perth’s most fabulously situated restaurant. It is the perfect spot for a very special occasion. You can choose to eat out on the terrace or inside. Given that this is such a popular, and prestigious place to eat, it is recommended to book ahead and also specify where you wish to be seated.
As to be expected of the restaurant in Kings Park Frasers highlights the best Western Australia has to offer in food and wine. They source the best Western Australian produce which allows the honest, quality products to shine!
If you are looking to splurge, or celebrate a special occasion while in Perth, you can’t go past this well-respected restaurant in a spectacular Western Australian location.
Jacob’s Ladder Kings Park
I first became acquainted with Jacobs Ladder Perth when my aunt was training for a trek in Nepal. Jacobs Ladder is not for those looking for a stroll in Kings Park – it’s a serious challenge. Think of nearly 300 steps via a steep 43-meter descent from Cliff Street down to Mounts Bay Road. This twisting staircase is definitely the place for a good workout and I wondered why anyone would build something so torturous!
Back at the turn of the century (eg, around 1905), people living near the top of Mount Street and Cliff Street began to campaign for a way to get to the riverbank at the foot of Mount Eliza. Given the steep incline, it was decided it would be much cheaper to build some steps than a fully-fledged road. The staircase of Jarrah Steps was named the Cliff Street Stairway but some clever marketing gave way to its current name – Jacob’s Ladder Perth.
Jacob’s Ladder referred to the staircase to heaven dreamed of by Jacob in the Old Testament of the Bible, which permits the angels of God to travel between heaven and earth.
At the time the best houses in Perth city were at the top of the stairs at Cliff Street as they had amazing views of the Swan River. Rumor has it that a local real estate agent placed a sign “this way to Jacob’s Ladder” and the name stuck!
History of Kings Park Perth
The Whadjuk Noongar people lived around the Swan River for at least 40,000 years. This has been verified by the discovery of ancient stone implements near the Swan River. They were carbon-dated at around 38,000 years old. The Swan River, Derbarl Yerrigan, is a place of deep spiritual and mythological significance. It was also vitally important as a source of food, water, transport, and recreation to the indigenous people. The importance of the indigenous culture is celebrated in a number of places around Kings Park.
The first Europeans to visit Kings Park were the Dutch expedition in 1697. They climbed Mount Eliza and reported upon a huge eucalyptus tree. The Swan River Colony was established in 1829. Just two years after Captain James Stirling and Charles Fraser climbed Mount Eliza in 1827. Soon after the Swan River Colony was founded, Mount Eliza was set aside for public purposes. However, it wasn’t until 1872 that 172 hectares of the reserve were to become a public park
Following the establishment of the State Government in 1890, Premier John Forrest began the development of Kings Park by building fences along the boundaries as we know it today. In 1895, the land was named ‘The Perth Park”, later to be renamed Kings Park. Note that about the same time, in 1898 Premier John Forest also set aside a conservation reserve in the Perth Hills. This became the first National Park in 1900. That first National Park in Western Australia is now known as John Forest National Park. As a Western Australian, I am grateful for the foresight of these settlers to establish thoughtful and expansive public bush areas within what is now greater Perth city.
Fast forward to 1965. The State Government opened a 17-hectare Botanic Garden, with the subsequent addition of a DNA Observation Tower and several playgrounds. Adding to the State War Memorial site, the Flame of Remembrance was officially opened in 2000 by Queen Elizabeth II. The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island War Service Memorial was opened in 2001. In the past twenty years, Kings Park has continued to evolve as one of Perth’s best parks. We cover some of Perth’s other great parks at Perth Parks And Playgrounds .
Is Kings Park Dog-Friendly?
In general, yes, Kings Park is dog friendly. Dogs are allowed in most parts of Kings Park. The places that they are not allowed are inside any of the playgrounds (in fact they need to be kept 10 meters from the edge of the playgrounds). They are also not allowed on the elevated section of the Tree Top Walk Kings Park. Also, they are not allowed at any of the important events held at Kings Park. These include Australia Day, Anzac Day, summer events, and the Kings Park Festival.
All dogs must be well behaved, and on a leash no longer than 2metres. Obviously, owners are expected to clean up after the dog, should they do their business!
If you are looking for a dog-friendly walk, you might like to head off on the Law Walk. It has great views across the river.

Article Why Kings Park is the king of all parks
Finding an immense native park studded with trees that live for 2000 years, a suspended bridge and dense wildflower carpets in the heart of a capital city is as unexpected as it is engaging. Welcome to Kings Park in Perth!
A line of smooth, pale tree trunks stretching their leafy fingers into Perth’s blue sky marks the first of many breathtaking moments you’ll have in Kings Park . No matter how often I go, the largest inner city park in the world dazzles me every time – I can’t help but stare. From horizon-bending views to a 750-year-old boab that travelled 3200km to be there, free walking tours, Indigenous insights and stretches of native bush only five minutes from the city centre, it’s an oasis that delivers me sweet escapism from everyday life, all forgotten as I wander through its wildflowers.
It’s telling that as a tourist attraction, Kings Park lures locals like me as successfully as it does its six million annual visitors. Drawn to that beguiling main entrance of tall, lemon-scented gums along Fraser Avenue, people spread picnic rugs on the grass around the State War Memorial, or stroll to the lookouts. There, you can gaze down at the city’s urban heart, its rows of skyscrapers edging the Swan River. This is one of few places you can spy the waterway blending into the Canning River, which snakes towards the blue haze of the Darling Range that forms the Perth Hills. That’s breathtaking moment number two.
Aboriginal Cultural Tours of Kings Park, Nyungar Tours
Ready for a few more? In a “mine’s bigger than yours” play-off, Perth’s huge natural asset trumps that of New York City’s. At 400 hectares, Kings Park is 60 hectares larger than Central Park and for locals, equally as iconic.
Statistically, it’s no slouch either. The Western Australian Botanic Garden , which sits neatly within Kings Park, harbours 3000 species of Western Australia’s native flora. Two-thirds of the rest of the park is untamed scrub, ribboned with sandy or paved trails. As a walker, you get a keen sense of being out bush, alone with nature, when actually you’re in the heart of the city. The trill of some 80 bird species makes it easy to forget the encircling metropolis. It also has more wartime memorials, statues of historic figures and honour avenues remembering fallen soldiers than any other park in Australia.
On the practical front, Kings Park is a cinch: most public buses leaving from the city centre along St Georges Terrace will take you up the hill for free (just ask the driver). For those with a car, free parking is clustered throughout the park. Once there, free walking tours run by passionate Kings Park Volunteer Guides mean you don’t have to spend a cent to enjoy this green zone. The free walks run for between one and three hours and depart daily at 10am, 12pm and 2pm. You can target what you’re interested in: survivalist plants, exotic trees, bushland trails, historic and cultural monuments, or the diversity of plant species existing within WA’s coastal and inland zones. Entry to the park is also free and while lazy picnics are the best, there are also cafés and a restaurant to keep you sated.
Free guided walks of Kings Park and Botanic Garden are also offered by Kings Park Volunteer Guides twice daily throughout the year and during wildflower season.
One of the park’s most treasured attractions is a giant tree that can live for 2000 years. Kings Park’s huge boab, weighing in at 36 tonnes and trucked south from the Kimberley to save it from major roadworks, has an otherworldly aura that is curiously magnetic. Wide and rounded like a bottle, sprouting green tufts and tangled branches from its top, it’s almost comical in appearance.
The tree acts as a signpost to the plants and flowerbeds of the Botanic Garden, each representing the environment of different parts of the vast state. During wildflower season, and the park’s all-September-long, free, annual Kings Park Festival, this section is particularly arresting. Pastel carpets of papery everlastings, fringe tufts of velvety kangaroo paw blooms, purple sprays of Geraldton wax and scarlet grevilleas, plus thousands more textural and intricate wildflower species. If you can’t make it at festival time, the wildflowers generally last throughout October.
Kings Park, Perth
From there, stroll along the paved, 620m Lotterywest Federation Walkway , and you’ll soon arrive at the suspended treetop bridge. The curving piece of architecture made from WA iron and glass hovers at 52m above the forest floor. Beyond is the moody and romantic Marri woodland, and a calming series of pools that flow from the Pioneer Women’s Memorial. This spot hosts some of the city’s biggest music concerts, the natural setting offering a mature and atmospheric destination to see the likes of Blondie, Cyndi Lauper, Tim Minchin and Lorde. Meanwhile, on the park’s western side, open-air Moonlight Cinema draws crowds to May Drive Parkland over summer.
Kings Park walkway, Perth
That such a space has been retained in the heart of a capital city can be attributed to the efforts of John Septimus Roe, the first surveyor-general of the Swan River colony. After European settlement in 1829, he protected the wooded area, noting its value, but by 1835 its use as a timber mill was more attractive to Perth’s early inhabitants. Logging continued for 36 years until a large tract was successfully preserved. By 1890, the parkland was extended and soon after, it officially opened. The name, Kings Park, was bestowed in 1901 to mark King Edward VII’s ascension to the throne.
For thousands of years prior, local Aboriginal people had used the area for ceremonies, dreaming, cultural activities and hunting grounds. The self-led Boodja Gnarning Walk is dotted with interpretive signage telling of the ways trees and land were used by the Nyoongar people, as well as men’s and women’s roles. Visiting the Aboriginal Art Gallery, below the Kaarta Gar-up lookout on Fraser Avenue, is another way to gain valuable insights.
While you might plan to explore for an hour or two, expect Kings Park’s charms to hold you there for far longer.

Philippa Nikulinsky was commissioned by Aspects of Kings Park to paint the new blue kangaroo paw hybrid, Anigozanthos ‘Masquerade’, bred by Kings Park and Botanic Garden. "The main technique used to produce disease tolerant hybrids was a process called recurrent selection. This breeding system selects the top two to four progeny of each cross rated for the particular attribute being selected for, in this case disease tolerance." - Digby Growns, Senior Plant Breeder, Botanic Gardens and Parks...

TOP-11 Moscow Parks to Visit
I have chosen the best 11 Moscow parks to visit and spend a beautiful time for you. Do not miss and choose one that you like the most – cycling, festivals, flowers, panoramic views and many other things are waiting for you!
Gorky Park (The Central Park of Culture and Leisure) – The main one of the Moscow Parks
In my opinion this park could be called the main park of the city. Why? Because of its huge territory, the central location and the amount of people visiting the park daily. It was founded in 1928 and in 2011 it was totally reconstructed. Now it pleases visitors with modern objects and soft green lawns.
- Oktybrskaya or Park Kultuty metro station, Krimsky Val, 9
The Gorky park is a the right choice for everyone! The youth will like a free WiFi, bicycles, skateboards and other rentals; the couples will enjoy spending time near the river, watching a sunset; parents will appreciate colorful playgrounds and a room for mother and child. Everyone can find something for themselves: from yoga classes to watching movies in a cozy summer cinema, from dance classes to volleyball playground. Gorky Park is also the venue for all kinds of exhibitions, festivals, events for children and adults. During the winter there is one of the biggest skating rinks in the park.
Museon Art Park – A Second Gorky they say
“Museon” is located on the opposite side of Krimsky Val street. And right now some people believe that Gorky and Museon together is a one space sharing the same beauty.
- Oktybrskaya or Park Kultuty metro station, Krimsky Val, 2
The Park of Arts was named this way because there is the largest composition of open-air sculptures in Russia. In its territory there are already more than 1000 unique exhibits: from monuments of the socialist realism era to various kinds of contemporary art. But this is not all the attractions of the park. In recent years, “Museon” has become an important cultural site of the city. The park regularly hold many different concerts, festivals, educational projects in the field of art and design. There is a Central House of the Artist, a comfortable summer cinema and other attractions on territory. Be sure to stroll pedestrian Crimean embankment, which looks like a modern park.
Neskuchny Garden – True Russian Nature is Here
Neskuchny garden is located on the right bank of the Moscow River. Today it is also seen as a part of the Gorky Park. This landscape park is one of the oldest in the city and is protected by the state. Its name was received from the Neskuchnoye Estate of Prince Trubetskoi which is still located in the park.
- Leninsky Prospekt metro station, Leninsky Prospect, 30
This park is famous mostly for its location close to the Gorky park. It is a quite place with true nature, lots of trees and squirrels and also ancient architecture. As in every park, there are sports and playgrounds, cafes and even a football field.
Zaryadye Park – 5 Steps Away From The Red Square
The area of this brand new park was opened only in September 2017 and located in the very heart of Moscow – right near the Red Square.
- Open from 10AM to 10PM
- Teatralnaya, Okhotnyi ryad, Ploschad Revolutsii
The park has 4 zones, each of them represent different parts of Russian landscapes. Above the river there is a floating bridge from where you get to see one of the best panoramic views on Moscow. Other attractions of the park are 5D cinema where you can take a flight above Moscow, few cafes and restaurants, pretty lakes with fishes and old preserved churches. In addition there is still being built a philharmonic hall, covered with a huge dome and an Ice cage where the temperature will always stay below zero degrees.
When you are on the Red Square do not miss it!
All-Russia Exhibition Center (VDNKh) – The Soviet Style Moscow Park
Park VDNKh – one of the most famous parks in Moscow. This park is one of the sights of the city as it hasn’t changed much since the Soviet era.
- VDNKh metro station, Prospect Mira, 119
The symbol of VDNKh is a fountain with 16 women symbolizing the friendship of the nations of the USSR. Around this fountain there are all the pavilions representing 16 republics. Now inside the pavilions you find various shops, cafes and exhibitions. If you go deep inside the park you will find a rocket Vostok and and an aircraft. What is funny the inside of the aircraft there is actually a photo exhibition. Near the northern entrance you there is a famous sculpture “Worker and Kolkhoz Woman”. It is extremely famous among Russians as all the movies by Mosfilm corporation used to start with the picture of this statue. But if you go further inside the park you will reach a very calm area. A lake is there, forest and birds singing. Since the park occupies a large area I suggest you to rent a bicycle.
Sokolniki Park – A Place For A Hunt Or For Leisure?
The park got its name because of the royal falconry, which took place there in the past when there was a dense forest. (Sokol means a falcon.) In 2011 it was significantly transformed: updated lawns, landscaped ponds and picnic areas, restored summer cinema and theater, a large rose garden, sports grounds, bicycle paths and other things.
- Sokolniki metro station, Sokolnichesky Val, 1, p. 1
From the main entrance along the alley you can walk to the Sokolniki circle, where 8 alleys form 9 sectors, in each of them you will find trees of the same breed. The park is famous for its rosary, as well as flower decoration. On the territory of the park there are concert halls, a library, amusement zone, dances zone and many many other attractions. In winter the park has a skating rink (a free of charge one) and ski runs. During the warm season you can rent a bicycle.
Tsaritsino Park – A Different World Inside Moscow
Here you can walk for hours, admiring the most beautiful nature and magnificent architecture.
- Open from 6AM to 12AM
- Tsaritsyno metro station, Dolsky, 1
The most amazing part of the park is the lake with a light and musical fountain. Every evening the fountain starts the show. Lights and music combined make you feel like you are not in Moscow but in a fairy tale. The park is also well equipped for sports lovers and healthy lifestyle. There are volleyball and basketball courts, a tennis court, sports facilities for acrobatics, bodybuilding equipment.
What I personally like about this park is the atmosphere. This place is actually far from the city center but I love going there anyway. Whenever I go there I feel like I left Moscow with all its hectic lifestyle. It is the place where I relax, enjoy myself or a company of my friends and feel kind of different. By the way totally suggested for a date!
Kolomenskoye Park – Combination Of Reserve and Architecture
The Kolomenskoye park is actually a Museum-Reserve. It is a former residence of Russian tsars and one of the most scenic places in Moscow.
- May to September – open from 8AM to 12AM, October to April – from 8AM to 9PM
- Kolomenskoye metro station, Andropov Ave, 39
Alike with Tsaritsino park Kolomenskoye park has its own special atmosphere with all the architecture, trees, ponds and even a river bank. The park regularly hosts various folk festivals and different fairs. In summer time you can play with kites or rent a bicycle and ride around the huge area of the park.
I love the view that you get on the city from one of the hills near the river. I love the apple trees alleys and the beautiful churches. It is also a bit far from the city center but yet worth going there. One of my best friends even celebrated her wedding there.
Aptekarsky Garden or Botanical garden of the Moscow State University – The Best Botanical Garden in The World
Aptekar in Russian language means a pharmacist so basically it is a pharmacist’s garden. It was founded in 1706 by Peter The Great for growing medicinal plants for the royal family. But later they moved it from under the walls of the Kremlin to the current location.
- Open from 10AM to 8PM
- Prospect Mira metro station, Prospekt Mira, 26
In the botanical garden there are no attractions and noisy crowds of tourists. The area of the garden is not as big as any other park in Moscow. And the entrance is not free. But this exactly what makes this park one of the most comfortable in the city. In the Aptekarsky garden they grow thousands of different plants, flowers and trees. Some of the trees are more than 300 years old. They held different festivals there: flowers festivals, sand and ice sculptures expositions.
For me it is one of the most beautiful parks not only in Moscow but in the world. I have never seen so many different flowers and plants anywhere else. And trust me I am a real park lover. And what is more the staff really takes care about every single tree or plant there, some of the trees have names and stories. I love it there and I think the price is really worth what you get.
Victory Park – A Park That Makes Us Remember The War
The park is located on the Poklonnaya Hill and it has one of the world’s largest memorial complexes dedicated to the World War II. The park was opened for the 50th anniversary of the Victory on May 9, 1995. It is also one of the main venues in the city for holding a variety of mass events.
- Park Pobedy metro station, Brothers Fonchenko, 7
On the main avenue of the park there are with 1418 fountains – exactly as long as the war lasted. Fountains make five water terraces, symbolizing five years of military operations. And in the center of the park there is the Museum of the Great Patriotic War. If you are interested in the history of the war do not miss it. The Poklonnaya Hill is a part of the park and from the hill you get one of the best views on the city of Moscow. And I could say this is the best place for watching the fireworks during the mass celebrations. But be aware it gets too crowded then. As in most of the other big parks you can rent a bicycle or rollers there.
Izmailovsky Park – A Mix of a Big Forest and Attractions
Izmaylovsky Park occupies a huge green territory, making up a large part of the Izmailovo district. The park consists of two parts: Izmaylovsky Park of Culture and Rest and the forest park of Izmailovo. First part is full of attractions and restaurants while the second one is like a real forest with pine trees, birch groves, beautiful clearings and ponds.
- Izmaylovskaya, Shosse Entuziastov or Partizanskaya metro stations, Izmaylovsky Park
It is easy to spend there a whole day. A large landscaped area and a lot of various entertainments for children and adults will help you not to get bored. An observation wheel, a boat station, children’s playgrounds, a dance floor, sports grounds, a skate park – all this is only a small part of the possible leisure activities. In the park there are bike paths and a rental services.
I don’t go there often to be honest. But the park is very very close whenever to a souvenir market on Partizanskaya metro station. And whenever the weather is nice and I have enough of free time I stroll through the alleys of the park and enjoy the nature. So if you are going to the souvenir market too and you have enough free time then do go to the park too.

Moscow travel guide
Moscow tourism | moscow guide, you're going to love moscow.
Moscow is sometimes known as "The Third Rome" and it doesn't disappoint. With the amazing architecture and history behind some of the buildings, it's the perfect combination of contemporary mixed with historic.
Everywhere from the Moscow Business District to the Red Square will have some beautiful building or park and a plethora of delicious Russian food options. You'll be immersed in history everywhere you go, but you'll also see the signs of modern-day tsars.
The people of Moscow are welcoming and kind and can't wait to show you everything their city has to offer.
Top 5 Reasons to Visit Moscow
1. it's a history buff's paradise.
Moscow has a rich history, and not just from the time of the USSR. If you love history than the stories behind every building, landmark, and road in Moscow will have you chomping at the bit for more. Be sure to take a historic tour of the city.
2. It's an Architectural Dream
Moscow's architecture is unmatched, and the design and colors of every building are breathtaking. Visit the Kremlin, built in the 15th century, or Saint Basil's Cathedral from the 16th century.
3. Art Galleries and Museums Aplenty
There's nothing quite like Russian art, and Moscow is home to some of the world's most impressive collections. Be sure to visit the Tretyakov State Gallery or if you're into something more modern, the ARTPLAY Design Center and Flacon Design Factory.
4. The World-Renowned Subway Stations
Not many cities can claim their train stations as a drawcard, but the Moscow subway, built in 1935, is truly like walking through a royal castle. You can only imagine the engineering that went into building something so complex and impressive.
5. The Russian Theater
Probably the biggest draw to Moscow is the Russian Theater, which hosts everything from plays to ballet. The Bolshoi Ballet Company is among the most well-known symbols of Russia and experiencing this in person is incredible.
What to do in Moscow
1. moscow kremlin: russia's must-see.
The first stop in Moscow is the Red Square - home to the iconic St. Basil's Cathedral with its multicolored domes, and the gateway to the Kremlin. Just past Lenin's Mausoleum, this fortified citadel was built for royalty. Overlooking the river, it boasts a density of cathedrals and palaces behind thick walls. Step into the State History Museum and the Museum of Fashion for contrasting but equally enthralling Russian learning opportunities, or enjoy a stroll through the Aleksandrovsky Garden.
2. Bolshoi Theatre: The Show Must Go On
The Bolshoi Theater is a historical gem. This grand institution has hosted the famous Russian opera and ballet for centuries, and the performances have never lost their grandeur. The most talented opera singers and ballet dancers keep coming from Russian schools. Naturally, it is the ultimate venue to immerse yourself when it comes to traditional performance. The little sister to the Bolshoi, Maly Theater, is just across the street.
3. Cathedral of Christ the Saviour: A Worthwhile Reconstruction
This Orthodox Christian church was one of the tallest in the world until it was demolished by Stalin in 1931, as he planned to have the "Palace of the Soviets" built. Of course, this idea never came to fruition, and the Cathedral of Christ the Savior was certainly significant enough to rebuild. Since 1997 it has become a huge attraction for its beauty as well as a symbol of the country's tumultuous history. The golden domes shimmer from across the city, and the interior is fabulously colorful.
4. Gorky Park: Where Everyone Comes out to Play

The largest collection of Fine Russian Art in the world is found in Moscow's Tretyakov Gallery. When to visit Moscow
Deciding when to visit Moscow depends a lot on your budget and your durability. Russian winters are incredibly harsh with temperatures that reach below zero on some days and winds that will chill you to your core. Shoulder seasons are a great time to experience Moscow because the temperatures are mild enough to enjoy the sights. Summers will always cost more because it's a peak travel period.

There are nine train stations in Moscow, but the main one is Leningrad Station. The main train route is the overnight train from Warsaw on Russian Railways, which costs around ₽9,000.
The M1 goes into the city from the west and the M7 goes into the city from the east. Moscow has two circular highways around it, the Third Ring Road and MKAD. This makes it easy to approach the city from any angle once you get in from the M1 or M7.
Similar to the train, approaching Moscow by bus isn't a very common way to get there. However, Lux Express has many routes to Moscow. You can travel from Riga, Tallinn, Berlin, Warsaw, Minsk, Budapest, and more.
