According to vocalist Teasdale, Wet Leg make "sad music for party people, and party music for sad people."

"It is cathartic and joyful and punk and scuzzy and above all, it's fun," she adds. "Wet Leg was originally just supposed to be funny.

Hester Chambers and Rhian Teasdale at Omeara.

Wet Leg review – an irresistible, stop-start blast

Omeara, London Two songs turned this absurdist duo into an indie sensation, and it seems their reckless commitment to fun has only just begun

T he stage in this snug south London venue is far too small for Wet Leg , the indie rock revelation of 2021 – physically and figuratively. It’s a squeeze for all five touring members of the band, centred on old music college friends Hester Chambers and Rhian Teasdale. The two wield twin guitars; you can just about insert a cigarette paper between them. Their bassist and a third guitarist rock out either side, the latter often hunched over a small keyboard. It’s a miracle that everyone is right-handed, so no one gets brained by a stray tuning key.

The space nigh on vibrates with the unmet demand for tickets too. Wet Leg’s debut single went millions-of-streams viral last June; Iggy Pop now knows their name . Wet Leg’s set at July’s Latitude festival is now the stuff of near-myth, as the new band’s pup tent proved unequal to their big-dog numbers.

On paper, the duo have had just a pair of tracks out and support from 6 Music, but somehow a US tour in December is now sold out, likewise every UK date they have announced for 2022. A few hours before this headline show, they tweet wryly : “Big thank you to everyone that’s bought a ticket after having only heard two songs.”

But what two songs! Last June, Wet Leg’s bouncy, stream-of-nonsense tune Chaise Longue wormed its way into the indiesphere with its deadpan talk of day beds, degrees, buttered muffins, a line lifted from the 2004 film Mean Girls . In the midst of a British post-punk revival in which declamatory sing-talkers front bands full of wiry guitars, Wet Leg have added absurdist one-liners and a reckless commitment to fun. According to the band, they formed at the top of a ferris wheel, drunk, after a 2019 Idles festival set.

Chambers and Teasdale might have named themselves after a loss of bladder control – there is a wicked ick factor to a lot of their lyrics – but “wet leg” could equally describe the ejaculatory critical response to them.

One organ pronounced Chaise Longue one of the most exciting debut singles since Arctic Monkeys’ I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor . As kismet would have it, Wet Leg now find themselves on the same label as the Monkeys.

Happily, there were more ear worms where Chaise Longue came from: Wet Leg’s second single, Wet Dream , found lead singer Teasdale wringing humour from an ex’s sexual fantasy. Its oh-so-catchy chorus and disco handclaps prove irresistible tonight.

If Wet Leg’s signature move is a kind of sarcastic innuendo (“I’ve got Buffalo 66 on DVD” is one of Teasdale’s come hithers), they perform it while looking thoroughly wholesome. The band’s videos featured the pair dressed as folksy “cottage-core” milkmaids – homespun frauleins who nonetheless sometimes sport lobster claws. They might look like First Aid Kit, but live Wet Leg’s sound recalls bands such as Elastica and the Breeders or a slew of more recent acts Wet Leg have talked up in interviews, Australian punks the Chats , for one.

Tonight, no one is actually wearing a wimple, although the guitarist has a chintzy curtain tassel dangling from his guitar neck. And although it is still very early days – an album is mooted for some time next year – the band Wet Leg probably most resemble tonight is Pavement , a mainstay of the Domino label in the 90s. It’s in the offhand way Teasdale delivers non-sequiturs and the stop-start pacing and fuzzy crescendos of their songs.

Wet Leg at Omeara.

Some songs punch out from the default indie rock of this short set. I Don’t Want to Go Out drips with trademark Teasdale snark, accessorised here and there by a spacey, theremin-like keyboard line. A song called Supermarket confirms their skewwhiff indie-rock orientation. Later, Teasdale sings about checking her phone on another off-kilter track that has an unexpectedly heavy, near-psychedelic payoff.

In between are songs that depart from the template in their quietude or straightforwardness. In interviews, Wet Leg have alluded to previous outfitsthat didn’t bear fruit. Some basic internet research reveals Teasdale’s very respectable past as a piano-playing folk singer, Rhain , in the mould of Joanna Newsom – a far cry from the arch, cod-Amish badass she has become.

The “fun” plan seems to be working, though. “We’re going to play the last song now,” says Teasdale pointedly. And the band blast through a joyous rendition of Chaise Longue, the two friends yelling the lyrics at each other, grinning all the while.

Paul Bradshaw / 6 April 2022

Album Review: Wet Leg –  Wet Leg

The indie rock duo ride the breakthrough buzz to give us the sound of 22 in the key of pop-post-punk

“Let’s just do it for the fun of it and see what happens…” Rhian Teasdale and Hester Chambers told the BBC back in January – right around the point they became one of the biggest bands around without even releasing an album.

Arriving on a wave of expectation built entirely on just a handful of singles, Wet Leg’s full-length debut confirms what we all already seemed to know – turning industry buzz into a burst of joyful, painful, electric new indie that feels like it’s been stuck in our heads for months already.

Finding the place where post-punk meets pop, Wet Leg trade in contradictions wherever they clash the loudest – deadpanning innuendos over wonky Bowie guitars before tackling self-loathing and anxiety with dancefloor dreampop.

Wet Leg - Chaise Longue (Official Video)

First single ‘Chaise Longue’ still sounds fresh after months of airplay (part Parquet Courts stoner guitars, part  Mean Girls  winks), as does the sticky stomp of ‘Wet Dream’ (easily the best floor-filler about unrequited subconscious desire to also mention Buffalo 66 and car sex).

Summing up the swell of apathy that undercuts the record’s raw emotion on ‘I Don’t Wanna Go Out’, the track stands as one of the most 2022 tracks of the year (“It used to be so fun, now everything just feels dumb, I wish I could care… And now I’m almost 28, still getting off my stupid face – a f**king nightmare I know I should care. Right now I don’t care…”).

Elsewhere there’s brutal breakup tracks (“I feel sorry for your mum…”), sly Pulp references and a song that deserves an award for working in the lyric “Bioluminescent plankton sh*t” – all revelling in their multipart friction to end up somewhere completely different from wherever they started.

Wet Leg - Too Late Now (Official Video)

By the time ‘Too Late Now’ closes the album with a floating range that covers everything else that went before it, it’s hard not to think you’ve just heard a band making their mark with a smile and a sledgehammer.

Started as a joke but building something genuinely meaningful out of their own ennui,  Wet Leg  gives us a band you can actually hear figuring things out in real-time. Less casual than effortless, a debut this exciting deserves the hype.

Wet Leg start their UK tour in Newcastle on April 16, returning again in June, July and November for various dates around the country. Tickets are available here .

Wet Leg Add More 2022-2023 Tour Dates, Share Cover of Ashnikko’s “Daisy”: Stream

Even though Wet Leg have spent most of the year thus far on the road, it doesn’t look like they plan on slowing down anytime soon: The British indie rockers have scheduled more shows for late 2022 and summer 2023. Additionally, they’ve unveiled their cover of Ashnikko ’s hit “Daisy” as part of the Spotify Singles series.

Wet Leg will headline four shows in New York this December at four different iconic venues: Webster Hall, Bowery Ballroom, Elsewhere, and Music Hall of Williamsburg. After supporting a run on Harry Styles’ “Love on Tour” earlier this year, they’ll reunite with the pop star again next summer as they open his shows throughout the UK and Europe.

While Ashnikko’s original “Daisy” is a trap-pop jam, Wet Leg give the tune an alt-rock spin that’s still just as infectious. The other side of the Spotify Single features a pared-down re-working of “Convincing,” one of many highlights off the band’s self-titled debut album . Listen to both of those songs below, and then keep scrolling to see Wet Leg’s full tour schedule; grab tickets over at Ticketmaster .

Earlier this month, Wet Leg also covered Steve Lacy’s funk jam “Bad Habit” for BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge series. A few days later, Pearl Jam did their own rendition of the duo’s breakout single “Chaise Longue” at Madison Square Garden.

Watch Wet Leg make US TV debut with thrilling ‘Chaise Lounge’ performance

The duo are currently out on their debut north american tour.

Wet Leg pose for a photoshoot

Wet Leg have made their US TV debut with a thrilling performance of ‘Chaise Lounge’ – watch below. The Isle Of Wight duo – aka Rhian Teasdale and Hester Chambers – appeared as the musical guests on last night’s (December 8) episode of ‘Late Night With Seth Meyers’. Playing live in the studio, the pair, joined by their touring band, ripped through a particularly raucous rendition of their viral hit while bathed in purple, green and blue flashing lights. A green neon ‘Wet Leg’ sign sat in front of the drum kit. The live TV performance came after the group began their debut North American headline tour in New York on Tuesday (December 7). Yesterday they performed at Union Pool in Brooklyn ahead of a second gig at Baby’s All Right tonight (9). Further concerts are scheduled for Los Angeles (13, 14) and San Francisco (15, 16). The band are also supporting Chvrches on select dates of the Scottish trio’s US tour.

“OH CRUMBS!! Our first ever US tour starts in New York tonight how did this happen?” Wet Leg wrote on Instagram as their stateside stint kicked off. “Anyone else getting industry plant vibes.”

The duo will hit the road in the UK next month, with stop-offs planned for Manchester (January 28), Southampton (30), Margate (February 1), London (2) and Bristol (3). An additional run of UK headline dates is due to commence in April. Wet Leg are set to release their self-titled debut album on April 8 via Domino. It’ll include the previously released singles ‘Chaise Lounge’, ‘Wet Dream’, Too Late Now’ and ‘Oh No’. Those tracks were recently showcased on NPR’s Tiny Desk series . Meanwhile, Wet Leg have been nominated for the BBC Sound Of 2022 award alongside the likes of Baby Queen, Yard Act and PinkPantheress .

“We want to be recognised as guitar heroes,” the duo explained previously of their vision. “We agreed on the premise of our band there and then: as long as you’re having fun, then everything will be alright, and we’ve told ourselves that we’ll stick to that, always.” Wet Leg’s 2022 UK tour dates are as follows:

JANUARY 28 – Yes Pink Room, Manchester 30 – The Joiners, Southampton

FEBRUARY 1 – Elsewhere, Margate  2 – 100 Club, London 3 – The Louisiana, Bristol

APRIL 16 – Newcastle, St Doms 17 – Edinburgh, The Mash House 19 – Leeds, Brudenell Social Club 20 – Manchester, Gorilla 21 – Bristol, Trinity Centre 23 – Birmingham, O2 Institute 24 – Norwich, Arts Centre 26 – London, Scala 27 – Portsmouth, Wedgewood Rooms

Huge 1990s band announces new tour 30 years after record breaking chart-topping hit

Wet Wet Wet

Wet Wet Wet are heading back on the road for two UK tours in 2025.

Now fronted by Liberty X singer and The Voice winner Kevin Simm, the iconic 1990s band – still with founding members Graeme Clark and Graeme Duffin – will be travelling the country with their epic catalogue of hits.

With a run of shows in January and February followed by a second stint in October, they will be celebrating 30 years since Love Is All Around topped the charts.

Back in 1994, Wet Wet Wet’s take on The Troggs’ beloved 1960s song – which they covered for Richard Curtis film Four Weddings And A Funeral – spent a record 15 consecutive weeks in the top spot.

It’s a feat which is yet to be beaten, while there 56 career appearances on Top of the Pops, including 19 in 1994 alone, is unmatched by a Scottish band.

Kevin said: ‘It’s so exciting to be going back out on tour throughout 2025! Our recent concerts created some fantastic memories for us all and it was an incredible experience that I will never ever forget!’

Wet Wet Wet

Duffin added: ‘The sold out 2024 tour was the most joyful and celebratory tour I’ve been on. I am eagerly looking forward to these dates in 2025.

‘It is such a pleasure and privilege to have the opportunity to play to such lovely appreciative audiences, and I can’t wait to do it all over again, see you soon!’

The group – who also found success with the likes of Angel Eyes, With A Little Help From My Friends, Julia Says, Goodnight Girl and Sweet Little Mystery – will be joined on the tour by M People singer Heather Small, known for belting out mega hits like Moving On Up and Search For The Hero.

Clark revealed: ‘We were headlining a festival in Dubai recently where we bumped into the wonderful Heather Small and we are absolutely delighted that she’s accepted our invitation to join us as special guest on all of our tour dates next year.

Wet Wet Wet

‘Simply put, these shows are not to be missed!’

Heather added: ‘I’m so excited to join Wet Wet Wet on their extensive tour in 2025. I’m a fan of their music, so to be able to share these stages with them will be a real pleasure, it’s going to be one big party!’

Former Liberty X man Kevin has been part of the Wets’ lineup since 2018, when original member Marti Pellow left to focus on his solo career.

Wet Wet Wet tickets go on sale Friday, March 22 at 10am from  Ticketmaster.co.uk .

How to buy Taylor Swift tickets: Eras Tour dates and prices compared

When you buy through our links, Business Insider may earn an affiliate commission. Learn more

Taylor Swift's reign continues as she ramps up for the next leg of The Eras Tour. The singer-songwriter will kick off the European portion of her world tour in Paris in May, which will continue throughout the summer. From there, she'll return to North America to tour Canada and a few remaining US cities in the fall. If you're hoping to attend, we've compiled all of the details of The Eras Tour, including how to get Taylor Swift tour tickets.

Swift's Eras Tour has taken the world by storm since March 2023. The three-plus-hour tour features hits from each of Swift's album eras, from "Lover" to her recent Grammy Award-winning "Midnights." Each show also features surprise songs and occasional guests, so fans never quite know what they're in for. Swift will release her latest album, "The Tortured Poets Department," in April, but it's unknown if any of those songs will make their way to the tour setlist.

Getting tickets has become its own battle and many fans have waited hours in the Ticketmaster queue to hopefully snag some seats, if they could get a presale ticket code in the first place. While Swift continues to extend the tour, including new US dates, tickets remain hard to come by.

Below, we've put together a guide on everything to know about The Eras Tour, including the tour schedule, ticket purchasing details, resale ticket prices, and the concert film streaming options . You can also peruse resale vendors like StubHub and Vivid Seats at your leisure.

Taylor Swift international tour dates

The Eras Tour international dates resume on May 9 in Paris. The European tour will run until August 20 in London. UK prices are listed in pounds, and start times vary from city to city. US dates start in October and can be found under the following table.

Taylor Swift North American tour dates

The Eras tour will return to the US on October 18 in Miami. In addition to the Miami shows, Swift will perform multiple dates in New Orleans and Indianapolis. On November 14, Swift will head to Canada for several shows in Toronto and Vancouver. All North American shows start at 7 p.m. local time.

How to buy tickets for Taylor Swift's 2024 tour

Original standard tickets for Taylor Swift's 2024 sold out long ago for both international and domestic dates. All US tickets and many international tickets were sold through Ticketmaster , although select international locations used different services.

Tickets for most dates are available on resale websites like StubHub and Vivid Seats . These are generally higher-priced than the originals, which are no longer available. Keep in mind that some countries have rules regarding reselling tickets.

How much are Taylor Swift tickets?

Ticket prices vary by date and location. International resale tickets tend to be a bit cheaper than US resale tickets. It's worth noting that some of the cheapest tickets have restricted views.

StubHub's cheapest European tickets range from $392 (Madrid, Spain, on May 29) to £978 (London, United Kingdom, on June 22). The latter is around $1,248 in USD. The lowest prices for most shows are around $450 to $1,000. On Vivid Seats , the cheapest tickets for these dates go for $549 and $683, respectively.

When it comes to North American shows, the cheapest StubHub tickets range from $1,045 (Vancouver, Canada, on December 8) to $2,081 (Miami, Florida, on October 19). Most of the cheapest tickets are priced between $1,200 and $1,800. On Vivid Seats, the cheapest Taylor Swift tickets on these dates start at $1,133 and $2,212, respectively. The two resale vendors generally have similarly priced offerings, but this varies from show to show.

Susannah Streeter, head of money and markets at Hargreaves Lansdown, said: ''We're on a downwards escalator, with another drop in inflation expected, and an accelerated move lower forecast for the months to come.

"The Office of Budget Responsibility, the government's independent forecaster, reckons inflation will hit the Bank's 2% target this quarter.

"However, this could be a short-lived dip, and prices could take off again. Potentially inflationary pressures ahead include the ongoing fight for talent, higher shipping costs due to Red Sea disruption, and the increase in the minimum wage and business rates."

A drop in the inflation figure could influence how soon we get an interest rate cut - as rates are kept high in order to tame inflation by squeezing the economy.

The next Bank of England decision is on Thursday - when rates are almost certain to be held at a 16-year high of 5.25%.

Markets currently expect a first cut in June or August.

"They will want more evidence that wage growth will ramp down further before they budge and bring in a rate cut," said Ms Streeter.

Wage growth came in at 6.1% in the three months through to January and further declines are expected in the coming months.

However, a hike to the minimum wage in April could put upward pressure on inflation.

HMRC will close its self-assessment helpline line for almost six months every year, forcing customers to use its online services instead.

Taxpayers will be unable to call the tax office from 8 April to 30 September, HMRC has confirmed, meaning people who would previously have spoken to an adviser about their enquiries will now have to self-serve online.

The phoneline will close during the same period every year, it added.

HMRC said it was taking the step because "around two-thirds of calls" to its helpline were "routine or simple enquiries, which can be resolved online using our digital services, tools and guidance".

More than £50bn in pensions is at risk of being lost in abandoned accounts or scattered across multiple lost pots, analysis has found.

At least 4.8 million pension pots were "lost" by Britons last year, research by the Centre for Economics and Business Research, on behalf of the online pension provider PensionBee , estimates.

With nearly one in 10 workers believing they may have lost a pension pot worth more than £10,000 and the total number of UK pension pots expected to rise by 130%, the data shows the problem of lost pots is growing "more urgent every year".

Becky O'Connor, director of public affairs at PensionBee, said the amount of money lost track of in old pensions was "already eye-watering" and it was "set to reach national crisis levels over the coming years".

Today we learned that Unilever, the consumer goods firm behind brands including Marmite and Domestos, will cut 7,500 jobs across its global operations .

The UK-based firm, which employs around 128,000 staff, said the proposed losses would come mainly from office roles as technology advanced.

It admitted that the UK, where it has 6,000 workers, would be included in the three-year productivity drive.

Sky News learnt that Bim Afolami, the City minister, convened a group of industry stakeholders and MPs on Monday to discuss urgent improvements to roughly 40 existing hubs across the country.

The banks have now pledged to identify 225 locations for hubs by the end of the year, up from 11.

Majestic Wine is in advanced talks to buy Vagabond Wines , the London-based chain that filed notice of its intention to appoint administrators earlier this month.

Asda says it will become the "highest-paying traditional supermarket" after announcing an 8.4% pay rise.

Staff will be paid £12.04 an hour - up from £11.11 - from July.

The rate will initially go up to £11.44 on 1 April to meet national minimum wage requirements.

It will then rise to £12.04 on 1 July, with rates for staff at branches inside the M25 reaching £13.21.

The supermarket said: "This represents an 8.4% increase in pay and a total investment of £150m in colleague pay this year, which makes Asda the highest-paying traditional supermarket."

It does not take into account Aldi, however, which will pay its staff £12.40 from 1 June.

The UK's traditional supermarkets are generally classed as Asda, Tesco, Sainsbury's and Morrisons, despite Aldi becoming the fourth biggest retailer in 2022.

How do the other supermarkets compare?

  • Aldi  announced a raise from £12 to £12.40 from 1 June. Staff inside the M25 will get £13.65, up from £13.55;
  • Tesco staff will get a 9.1% pay rise from £11.02 to £12.02 and inside the M25 to £13.15 from 28 April;
  • Sainsbury's  staff from this month are paid £12, up from £11, and £13.15 in London;
  • Morrisons  rose hourly pay in October to the national living wage of £10.42. It said at the time that pay would move to at least the new living wage of £11.44, irrespective of age, on 1 April if union pay negotiations are ongoing;
  • Lidl  increased pay on 1 March from £11.40 to £12, rising to £13 with length of service. Inside the M25, pay rose from £12.85 to £13.55 (£13.85 for length of service);
  • Waitrose  said this month that minimum pay would be £11.55 across the UK and £12.89 in London. The current rate is £10.70 on average.

TSB Bank has announced it is increasing fixed mortgage rates by up to 0.25% across its residential, product transfer and borrowing ranges.

The changes come in tomorrow, ahead of the Bank of England's latest base rate decision on Thursday (when the central rate is expected to be held at 5.25%).

Commenting on the move, Ken James, director at Contractor Mortgage Services, told the news agency Newspage that it was "hard to know" if this increase reflects TSB's thoughts on the inflation data that will be published tomorrow (if inflation is higher than expected, interest rates could be held at their 16-year high for longer) .

"Let's hope the inflation data tomorrow swings the pendulum back in favour of cuts rather than more increases as it's starting to feel like the walls are closing in," he said.

And Stephen Perkins, managing director at Yellow Brick, said further rate increases from TSB today on the back of Nationwide increasing yesterday showed "lenders are not exactly brimming with confidence".

Hundreds of high street jobs are at risk after Ted Baker's owner moved to push its British operations into administration.

Sky News has learnt that No Ordinary Designer Label, which is owned by Authentic Brands Group (ABG) and trades under the Ted Baker brand, filed a notice of intention to appoint Teneo Financial Advisory as administrators on Tuesday.

The move is expected to result in store closures and job losses, although the scale of both was unclear.

It comes roughly 18 months after Ted Baker delisted from the London stock market after being bought by ABG for about £210m.

From perks to bonuses and wellbeing to friendliness, we all want a great workplace.

This year's Great Place to Work list surveyed more than 250,000 employees to find out which organisations deserved to be listed as the UK's best workplaces.

The global authority on workplace culture found that in the super large category - employing more than 1,001 people - the technology firm Cisco came out on top.

In all, 92% of employees said it was a great place to work, compared to 54% of employees at a typical UK company.

The company was followed by Hilton, which came in second, and DHL Express.

Here are the companies that came top in the other categories :

Large workplaces (200-1,000 employees)

1. ServiceNow

Medium workplaces (51-200 employees)

1. Talos360

3. Morgan King Group

Small workplaces (10-50 employees)

1. Sumillion Ltd

2. Iconic Smiles

Basically, stamp duty is a tax you pay when you buy a home in England or Northern Ireland over a certain price (we'll outline what happens in Wales and Scotland below).

The tax was first introduced in England during the reign of William and Mary in 1694 as a temporary measure to help pay for the war against France, but has existed since then in one form or another.

As the name suggests, proof of payment of the tax back then came with a physical stamp on a document.

Stamp Duty Land Tax (SDLT) - the levy as we know it now - has been in place since 2003.

When is it paid?

You may be charged stamp duty if you buy a freehold, leasehold or shared ownership property or if you transfer land or property in exchange for payment.

The current thresholds for when you have to pay are:

  • £250,000 for residential properties
  • £425,000 for first-time buyers of a residential property worth £625,000 or less
  • £150,000 for non-residential land and properties

How much will I pay?

Currently there's no charge on the first £250,000 you pay for your property.

On the next £675,000 (the portion from £250,001 to £925,000), the rate is 5%, then it's 10% from £925,001 to £1.5m and 12% for any portion above £1.5m.

Here's how the thresholds have changed over time...

You're moving house, and the new home you're buying costs £350,000.

As you're not a first-time buyer, the thresholds mean you will pay stamp duty on £100,000 of the total cost. At the 5% rate, the amount you owe will be £5,000 .

As we mentioned above, first-time buyers can claim a discount on stamp duty as long as their home costs £625,000 or less, and won't have to pay anything on the first £450,000 of their purchase.

You typically have 14 days to file your stamp duty return and pay any tax owed.

If the return is not received within the two-week period, you may face extra penalties and added interest from HM Revenue and Customs.

What if I'm buying additional properties?

If the property you're buying won't be the only home you own, you'll usually have to pay an additional 3% on top of the existing SDLT rates.

I'm buying a non-residential property - what happens then?

You still have to pay stamp duty when buying non-residential property, such as shops or retail units, offices or pieces of land.

There's no tax to pay on the first £150,000 of your purchase, but then similarly to residential buys, the amount you owe increases in thresholds.

You'll have to pay 2% of any purchase price above £150,000 and up to £250,000, while any remaining amount over this threshold will attract a 5% tax.

Why is stamp duty unpopular?

Along with inheritance tax, stamp duty is one of the most unpopular taxes in the country.

Many economists see it as a deterrence for people to move home - including older people wanting to downsize - leading to a "gummed-up" housing market. Former housing secretary Robert Jenrick has previously described it as a "terrible tax".

It also disproportionately impacts people in the South East and London where homes are more expensive.

An important note...

The stamp duty thresholds in place for residential purchases at the moment are only temporary, having been increased by former chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng in his 2022 "mini-budget".

Jeremy Hunt said he will "sunset the measure" from 31 March 2025, when 0% thresholds will return to their previous levels of £125,000 for home movers and £300,000 for first-time buyers.

What about Wales and Scotland?

In Wales, you must pay Land Transition Tax and the threshold is:

  • £225,000 for residential properties (if you do not own other property) £225,000 for non-residential land and property

In Scotland, there's Land and Buildings Transaction Tax.

The rate increases with the property's purchase price. Buyers pay 2% between £145,000 and £250,000, 5% on anything between £250,000 and £350,000, 10% on anything between £350,000 and £750,000, and 12% on anything over that.

Tesco has lost an appeal against a ruling that it infringed Lidl's trademark over the use of a yellow circle against a blue background in its Clubcard branding.

Britain's biggest retailer was sued by the German supermarket in 2020 after it adopted its well-known discount scheme branding.

Last year, the High Court ruled Tesco had taken "unfair advantage" of Lidl's distinctive reputation for low prices.

Tesco sought to overturn that ruling, but the Court of Appeal has today dismissed its request.

It did, however, uphold Tesco's appeal against a finding that it infringed Lidl's copyright.

Reacting to the result, Lidl said the supermarket had been "deceiving" its customers and called for it to change the Clubcard logo.

"Last year, the High Court ruled that Tesco's Clubcard logo was copied from ours and infringed our trademark rights, allowing them to unfairly benefit from our longstanding reputation for value while misleading its customers," a spokesperson said.

"Despite this, Tesco prolonged the dispute by appealing, deceiving customers for another year.

"We expect Tesco now to respect the court's decision and change its Clubcard logo to one that is not designed to look like ours."
