Welche Mountainbiketouren lohnen sich im Karwendel beim Ahornboden? Von der leichten MTB Tour direkt durch den großen Ahornboden bis zur schweren Mountainbiketour durch das Johannistal hinauf zum kleinen Ahornboden und der Falkenhütte reicht das Spektrum an schönen Mountainbikemöglichkeiten. Mittendrin – sowol konditionell als auch geografisch – sind die Routen hinauf zur Plumsjochhütte und zur Binsalm. Ich kenne alle Touren und gebe dir meine Tipps für deine Mountainbiketour im Karwendel.

Wann zum Mountainbiken am Ahornboden?

Die beste Zeit zum Mountainbiken im Karwendel in Hinterriss ist von Juni bis Oktober , bevor der Schnee fällt. Denk aber dran, dass es im Herbst schon sehr kalt werden kann! Oben bei den Übergängen kann es daher sein, dass der Schnee liegen bleibt. Das gilt insbesondere für das Lamsenjoch und den Hochalmsattel. Schön ist selbst im Herbst noch die MTB Tour auf die Plumsjochhütte, weil die Hütte oben sonnseitig liegt! Hier unsere schönsten Ahornboden Mountainbiketouren.

Mountainbiken zum Ahornboden – zur Engalm mit Fahrrad

Leichte Mountainbiketour am Ahornboden

Die wohl leichteste Tour mit dem Mountainbike im Bereich des Ahornboden führt von der Isar im Bereich von Vorderriss über Hinterriss direkt über den großen Ahornboden. Rund 25 Kilometer lang ist diese Strecke einfach. Es sind dabei gut 400 Höhenmeter zum Hinauftreten. Dadurch dass man diese Tour aber entlang der geteerten Strasse fährt, ist es einer eher leichte MTB Tour. Trotz der Fahrt auf der Strasse ist die Route landschaftlich sehr eindrucksvoll.

Bei Hinterriss schimmert der Rissbach wunderbar türkis! Besonders eindrucksvoll ist aber der Abschnitt direkt durch den großen Ahornboden. Wo die Autos sonst schnell durchfahren auf den Weg in die Eng, geniesst man vom Mountainbike aus das Lichtspiel der Sonne in den Blättern der Bergahorne. Ziel der Mountainbiketour ist das Almdorf Eng und die Engalm , wo man sich auch Zeit nehmen sollte für eine Einkehr.

Von der Eng zur Binsalm mountainbiken

MTB Ahornboden zur Binsalm

Von der Engalm führt eine offizielle Mountainbikestrecke 300 Höhenmeter hinauf zur Binsalm. Die Wegentfernung und die Höhenmeter sind nicht anspruchsvoll, jedoch ist der Forstweg an einigen Stellen sehr steil und teilweise auch grob. Erfahrungen auf dem Mountainbike sind daher Vorraussetzung. Die kleine Tour hinauf zur Bins ist aber wunderschön. Trainierte Mountainbiker können die Tour von Vorderriss zur Engalm kombinieren mit der Binsalm .

Plumsjochhütte mountainbiken

Mittelschwere Mountainbiketour zur Plumsjochhütte

Zwischen Hinterriss und großer Ahornboden zweigt eine gut ausgebaute Forststrasse ab und führt hinauf zur Plumsjochhütte. Die ebenfalls offiziell genehmigte MTB Tour ist eine der meisten befahrenen Mountainbikerouten im Karwendel: Die Steigung ist angenehm zu treten und die urige Plumsjochhütte ein schönes Ziel.

Die Hütte liegt unterhalb des Jochs auf einer freien, grünen Almwiese. Lohnenswert beim Hinauftreten sind die Ausblicke auf das Risstal und den Ahornboden. Oben lässt es sich gut auf der großartigen Panoramaterasse einkehren: Die Plumsjochhütte

Zum Kleinen Ahornboden mountainbiken

Mittelschwere Mountainbiketour zum kleinen Ahornboden

Wer zum kleinen Ahornboden mit dem Mountainbike fahren möchte, muss sich auf eine grobe Forststrasse einstellen, die nahe von Hinterriss 500 Höhenmeter hinaufführt. Bitte hier der offiziellen Beschilderung folgen (nicht den Wanderweg durch die Klamm benutzen). Durch das landschaftlich schöne Johannistal tritt man fern vom Autoverkehr hinauf in Richtung Falkenhütte.

Bei der Wegkreuzung biegt man unterhalb der Falkenhütte rechts ab und muss nochmal richtig stark in die Pedale treten, bis man das Hermann von Denkmal am kleinen Ahornboden erreicht hat. Hier oben trifft man im Sommer immer auf andere Mountainbiker (die meisten sind auf der Karwendeltour per Mountainbike). Unbedingt genügend Zeit für eine Pause am kleinen Ahornboden einplanen und daheim eine Brotzeit einpacken. Am kleinen Ahornboden gibt es keine Einkehrmöglichkeit. Toll sitzen und den Ausblick genießen tun wir auf der Falkenhütte oder noch besser beim Karwendelhaus. Hier die Tourenbeschreibung:

Mehrere Tage mountainbiken am Ahornboden

Ein guter Ausgangspunkt zum Mountainbiken rund um den Ahornboden ist der Ort Hinterriß, wo es den Gasthof zur Post gibt. Radfahrer und Mountainbiker finden dort eine abgesperrte Fahrradgarage. Außerdem lassen sich von hier alle oben beschriebenen Touren ideal starten. Zusätzlich kann man von hier auch die bekannte und beliebte MTB Tour über die Vereiner Alm nach Mittenwald fahren.

Anfahrtsbeschreibung

Von Bad Tölz kommend fahren wir entlang der Bundesstraße B13 nach Süden vorbei an Lenggries und durch den Ort Fleck bis auf den Staudamm des Sylvensteinspeichers. Dort biegen wir nach rechts in Richtung Fall und Hinterriß ab und fahren bis nach Vorderriß. Vorbei am Gasthaus Post führt uns die Straße schließlich in südlicher Richtung tiefer ins Karwendel und über die Landesgrenze nach Österreich hinein. Nachdem wir Hinterriß durchquert haben folgen wir der kostenpflichtigen Mautstraße noch für einige Minuten ins Rißbachtal bis zum Wanderparkplatz am Eingang des Johannestals.

Tourenbeschreibung

Unmittelbar am Parkplatz führt uns die Johannesbrücke über den Rißbach in die Karwendelauen. Eine Beschilderung deutet klar darauf hin, mit dem Mountainbike den linken Weg einzuschlagen und so folgen wir diesem für einige hundert Meter ohne nennenswerten Anstieg entgegen der Fließrichtung des Baches. Als die Steigung zunimmt teilt sich auch der Weg. Wir halten uns rechts und gewinnen während des darauffolgenden Kilometers zügig an Höhe. Entlang einer Rechtskurve dreht die Richtung schließlich wieder nach Westen und wir fahren nach dem ersten Anstieg plötzlich wieder bergab hinunter ins Tal des Johannesbachs.

Anschließend folgen wir dem gut ausgebauten Kiesweg tief hinein ins weit ausgeschnittene Johannestal zwischen Rißer Falk (2413m) und Laliderer Falk (2427m) im Osten sowie dem Stuhlkopf (2049m) im Westen. Zumeist nahe des rauschenden Bachlaufs führt der Weg uns zügig voran. Die anfänglich dichte Bewaldung öffnet sich mit jedem Kilometer etwas weiter und lässt schließlich bereits nach kurzer Zeit erste Blicke auf die imposanten Gipfel rund um Kaltwasserkarspitze (2733m), Moserkarspitze (2533m) und Lalidererspitze (2584m) zu. Wer sich bei strahlendem Sonnenschein vom Anblick dieser mächtigen Felswände und schroffen Gipfel ablenken lässt, wird die teilweise bis zu 12 Prozent Steigung messende Weiterfahrt wohl kaum noch wahrnehmen. Nachdem wir dem Johannesbach nun rund fünf Kilometer gefolgt sind, gelangen wir eine beschilderte T-Kreuzung. Während der Weg nach links über die Ladiz-Alpe (1588m) hinauf zur Falkenhütte (1850m) führt, zweigt der Weg rechts weiter in Richtung Karwendelhaus (1771m) ab.

Wir halten uns somit rechts und folgen der Forststraße über ein paar Kurven hinweg bergauf bis wir nach circa einem Kilometer den Eingang zum kleinen Ahornboden erreichen. Der mit alten Berg-Ahornbeständen bewachsene Almboden unterhalb der steil abfallenden Nordwände der Hinterautal-Vomper-Kette gilt als ein landschaftliches Kleinod im Alpenpark Karwendel und lädt zur kurzen Rast inmitten der idyllischen Natur ein. Ein dort befindliches Denkmal zu Ehren Hermann von Barth's erinnert an den Bergsteiger und Erschließer des Karwendels, der 1870 im Alleingang insgesamt 88 Gipfel des Karwendelgebirges bestieg - alleine zwölf davon erstmals.

An der Weggabelung direkt neben dem privat genutzten Pürschhaus (1399m) sehen wir uns nun drei möglichen Richtungen gegenüber. Der Weg links vorbei am Denkmal führt in Richtung Falkenhütte (1850m). Der Weg rechts an den Hütten vorbei führt über das Untere Filztal hinauf auf den Hochalmsattel in Richtung Karwendelhaus (1771m), wird jedoch schon nach kurzer Zeit zu einem Steig und ist somit für die Fahrt mit dem Mountainbike ungeeignet. Und so folgen wir also dem Weg geradeaus über den kleinen Ahornboden hinweg auf die Felswände zu, der durch einen Wegweiser zudem als Mountainbike-Strecke ausgewiesen ist. Wir verlassen nach nur wenigen hundert Metern den Almboden und bewegen uns schnurstracks auf die Ausläufer der Kaltwasserkarspitze (2733m) zu. Nach und nach verschlechtert sich die Beschaffenheit des Fahrweges, der sich nachfolgend rund zwei Kilometer weit den Hang hinauf schlängelt. Rund zehn Prozent Steigung, grober Schotter und eine relativ schmale Straße erschweren die Auffahrt. Insbesondere in den vielen engen und unübersichtlichen Kurven ist sowohl bei der Auffahrt, als auch der anschließenden Abfahrt Vorsicht geboten. Insbesondere bei gutem Wetter ist diese Strecke gut und gern befahren, daher sollte man stets auf Gegenverkehr eingestellt und bremsbereit sein.

Circa drei Kilometer verläuft die Schotterstraße weiter entlang der Ausläufer des Schlauchkarkopfes (2500m) bergauf durch die sich langsam wandelnde Landschaft. Weitläufige, von Geröll durchzogene Wiesenhänge lösen die zuvor dichten Latschenfelder ab und offenbart uns die karge Schönheit der alpinen Natur. Den höchsten Punkt der Tour und zudem den Übergang ins Karwendeltal markiert das Jochkreuz des Hochalmsattels (1803m). Von dort aus folgen wir dem Weg etwa dreihundert Meter bergab bis zu einer Verzweigung und anschließend in gerader Richtung noch rund vierhundert Meter bis zum Karwendelhaus (1771m) am Fuße der Birkkarspitze (2749m). Einem Adlerhost gleich schmiegt sich das Karwendelhaus an die Felswand und bietet einen atemberaubenden Ausblick auf die nördliche Karwendelkette und das tief eingeschnittene Karwendeltal, durch welches man das Karwendelhaus von Scharnitz aus erreicht. Nach einer ausgiebigen Rast führt uns die von der Auffahrt bekannte Route schließlich auch wieder hinunter zum kleinen Ahornboden und durch das Johannestal bis zurück zum Ausgangspunkt der Tour nahe Hinterriß.

Großer Ahornboden, Almdorf Eng and the Eng bus

Known as the heart of the Nature Park Karwendel, the Große Ahornboden is famous beyond its borders. No wonder: The gentle expanse of this natural treasure stands in impressive contrast to the surrounding rugged and steep mountains. Its incredible scenery makes the Ahornboden a popular excursion for nature lovers and beckons (hobby) painters to set up their easels.

At the end of the Rißtal valley, where one of the most beautiful landscapes of the Alps opens up, the Große Ahornboden boasts one of nature’s most stunning spectacles. Over 2,200 sycamore maple trees, some of which are over 600 years old and producing a blaze of colour in autumn, grow here. Already in 1927, the trees were declared a natural monument. It is unclear how this extensive tree population developed in the area. For centuries, the valley floor has been used as pastureland, maybe there was an interruption over long periods of time because of cattle epidemics or the Thirty Years’ War.

Many cows graze in summer on the Große Ahornboden. At the Eng Alm ,  Tirol’s oldest mountain hut with a thousand-year history, the milk is processed into butter and cheese. For many years, the cheesemaker has made excellent cheeses, and you can watch the expert at work. Or you can just enjoy the delicacies on the sun terrace which is gorgeously backdropped by the mighty mountains. The products are also available to buy at the dairy farm shop.

Several months per year, the Eng bus offers visitors a convenient and eco-friendly way to explore the Große Ahornboden. Follow the link for more information.

Großer Ahornboden

The people of Tirol realised early on just how unique and valuable the “Großer Ahornboden” at the end of the Rissbachtal Valley is. A preservation order was issued for the Großer Ahornboden (as well as the Kleiner Ahornboden) as early as 1927. With around 2,500 sycamore-maple trees covering this alpine terrain in the Karwendel Mountains north of the Inn Valley, it does in fact exude an almost fairytale charm when the leaves turn from yellow to vibrant red during the autumn months. Those wanting to find out more should visit the Hinterriss Nature Park House for information on the fauna, flora and geology of the Großer Ahornboden.

The Großer Ahornboden forms part of the 9th stage of the Eagle Walk from the Lampsenjochhütte hut to the Falkenhütte hut. It can be accessed via a toll road into the Rissbachtal Valley and is a popular destination for walkers and mountain bikers, as well as a starting point for many challenging hikes. Parents with prams and small children will find the walk easy from the Eng carpark into the “Enger Grund”.

A special tip for an exclusive break is the Bauernladen farm shop at Eng-Alm, which rents out affordable rooms with shower and WC.

There are plenty of ways to reward yourself for all your mountain efforts, for example by savouring the last warm rays of the sun on the terrace at the Rasthütte Eng as well as their excellent food. Visitors to the Gasthof Post in Hinterriss are treated to game and fish dishes from their own breeding stock.

Hochglückkar - Spring tour above the Großer Ahornboden

Servus, ich war gestern mit dem Radl bis zur Eng. Die ...

The toll road from Hinterriß to the Eng normally opens on 01 May.

Most skiers arrive by car early in the morning, just as it is getting light, climb up to Hochglück in the first morning light and hope that they can make it to the beer garden in time for the thunderstorm with their blonde cold drink.

They won't be alone, because the Hochglückkar, one of the few places where there is still enough snow for our sport at the beginning of May, is where the incessant skiers are concentrated.

They will swing down into the valley with profound alpine experiences in beautiful firn snow. The rugged Karwendel mountains around Hochglück form a magnificent backdrop in late spring, when there is still snow in the rocky recesses. You will not reach a summit, as the tour ends at the latest in the narrow Hochglückscharte.

At the rock at Kirchl, the route continues to the left and relatively flat along the upper edge of the drop-off towards the east, a little to the north-east and into mountain pine bushes. Further on, the ascent route turns southwards again and takes us to a short steep step in hollow terrain. From its upper edge, the trail continues to the south-west and leads to the so-called Brotzeitfelsen (2168 m), where you can end the tour with a clear conscience. In any case, you should not - as many people unfortunately do - sit down above this rock at the foot of the Eiskarlspitz, as avalanches also occur there from time to time, which, even if they are only small, can be dangerous due to falling rocks.

If you climb further, go straight up through the north-facing hollow, which becomes steeper towards the top. Where the slope becomes too steep and/or the snow too soft, take your skis off. In good powder snow, you can walk up to the Hochglückscharte without any problems, but very steeply (55°). It's a different story when the snow is icy. Then you either stay down or put on crampons.

The descent usually follows the ascent track.
