'6,000km of incredible sights': YouTuber travels from Singapore to Japan by sea

'6,000km of incredible sights': YouTuber travels from Singapore to Japan by sea

UK travel blogger Emma Le Teace always had a fascination for Asia, but wasn't sure if a cruise was the best way to explore the continent.

But when she saw that cruise line brand Royal Caribbean International was sailing from Singapore to Tokyo, she knew it was time to book those cruise tickets.

Emma described the trip as "6,000km of incredible sights", and the cruise, Spectrum of the Seas, took her to four countries in total.

With the cruise ship docked in Singapore, that meant a 13-hour flight from the UK for the travel blogger.

On Oct 24, Emma posted a 25-minute long video on her YouTube channel Emma Cruises about this adventure by sea.

She only had one day in Singapore and opted to visit the usual tourist attractions   within Gardens by the Bay such as the Flower Dome and Sky Trees.

After this mini pitstop, it was time to head up to the cruise ship and disembark off to the first stop in Nha Trang, Vietnam.

Dealing with the heat and humidity in Nha Trang was a challenge for Emma.

"I couldn't tell if it was tears or if it was sweat dripping down my face at times," she said.

On the cruise line excursion, Emma was introduced to local Vietnamese architecture, crafts and music.

Her itinerary was laid out for her, which can be a positive but the issue is, of course, flexibility.

"That is the compromise though when you take a cruise line excursion. You're not on your own schedule, you're on everybody else's," she explained.

Views of Hong Kong

emma cruises youtube latest

Next destination was Hong Kong and Emma would have two full days to explore the city.

Hop on hop off buses can divide opinions among travellers, but Emma has absolutely no issues with them.

"They're a great way to cover a lot of ground," she said.

During her short stay in Hong Kong, Emma experienced the famous Star Ferry and funicular railway up Victoria Peak.

The Star Ferry travels between the Kowloon Peninsula's southern tip to Hong Kong island, and has been doing so for over 120 years.

Despite it being busy and hot, Emma enjoyed this segment of her trip.

The funicular railway heads up The Peak and the views from the top were simply "spectacular".

Public toilets in Tokyo

Going to the toilet can be quite the experience in the Japanese capital. And it wasn't because they were free to use.

Emma even labelled these public toilets as the best in the world.

From heated toilet seats to music for privacy, these toilet seats have it all.

With an integrated bidet, there are numerous ways to "customise" the use of these toilet seats such as adjusting water temperature.

Emma was certainly not kidding when she said how much these Japanese-styled toilets impressed her as she checked online how much it would cost to install them at home.

"It's actually not as expensive as I thought it would be [but] I'm not going to be buying one, for sure," she admitted.

Another atypical aspect of Tokyo life Emma appreciated was the 7-Eleven stores.

That's because the ATM machines found within these convenience stores accept foreign cards.

As a tourist, this can be extremely useful should you ever be strapped for cash in Tokyo.

Although English isn't commonly spoken, Emma did not have much issues communicating with the local Japanese.

Hands gestures was the way to go and she appreciated the Japanese people's general politeness.

Everything you always wanted to know.

Joshua Smith

Founder and Editor at Cruising Freedom

This is the definitive guide on Emma Cruises for 2023.

She has one of the best cruising channels around town!

I’ll be sharing with you…

➜ How Emma Cruises affords to go cruising so often

➜ What her net worth actually is

➜ How she makes money with her channel (and how much)

➜ If she has a boyfriend who joins her when cruising

➜ How you can start cruising forever just like her

Then you’ve definitely come to the right place.

Before we start, a quick introduction from me…

The Cruising Freedom Author

Ahoy, Matey! I’m Joshua from Australia.

I’ve built the perfect business to sail the world.

A business model which can allow me to:

➜ Own a catamaran debt-free

➜ Go for weeks without WIFI

➜ Create semi-passive income

➜ Inspire others to dream big

But more on that later… 🙂

Emma Cruises FAQs (April 2023)

Crew members.

Emma Le Teace (age 32)

Emma Cruises does NOT have a boyfriend or husband.

She has remained single for several years now.

She is looking for someone to join her on some epic adventures in the near future. Who knows? That could be you!

After all, she doesn’t want to go to dinner by herself anymore. That gets old rather quickly!

Emma resides in the UK when she isn’t cruising.

However, she hasn’t been home for months now!

Her parents are starting to get worried… 😂

Past Cruising

She’s done a TON of cruising! From Europe to the Americas, she’s really been everywhere. Even as a kid, her parents took her on numerous cruises and Emma LOVED all of it!

Affording It

Emma used to work in data development and cruised on the side as a ‘hobby’. She eventually became semi-famous online.

So today, do the cruise lines just give her free cruises all the time?

Emma pays out of her own pocket for each cruise that she undertakes. She may get some wholesale discounts but that’s all.

She recoups the cost of her constant cruising through her channel and blog earnings.

You’re about to be surprised…

As of 2023, Emma Cruises has a net worth of $1,400,000 USD.

This is based primarily upon the value of her online business, plus her stock portfolio on the side.

Yes she’s a millionaire but those who create epic blogs often become quite wealthy in a short space of time.

Making Loot

As a blogger, she isn’t making pennies.

Emma Cruises makes around $17,000 per month as a content creator across her YouTube channel and profitable blog.

In this article , she details exactly how she makes money!

Collaborations

I’ve seen her do collabs with brands and other creators.

Future Plans

Where to next? Emma wants to see the world and allow her online business to pay her way forward. A genius strategy I must say!

Key Takeaways

What can we learn from her?

➜ Blogs are very profitable

➜ Simply create amazing content

➜ Be yourself on camera

➜ Stay humble and authentic

And you don’t need a partner to travel frequently, even as a woman.

Emma was unknown on YouTube just a few years ago but has risen through the ranks through her amazing and engaging content! She’s a one-woman-band and reminds us that we can all build incredible online business to fund our cruising dreams!

Create Your Own Cruising Freedom

Hey! 😃 it’s Joshua again…

Right…it’s clear that I resonate with Emma a ton!

Some say I’m obsessed, but cruising the world is my childhood dream too!

I mentioned earlier about discovering the #1 cruising business model.

With this exciting opportunity, I’ll be able to:

➜ Generate a sustainable full-time income through learning basic skills

➜ Fund the purchase of my first sailing catamaran without any loans

➜ Do it without selling to friends and family (I found a better solution!)

➜ Share my lifetime passion for sailing, cruising and global adventures

YouTuber Emma Cruises and Hudson the Cat raise thousands for Mercy Ships

Author: Kaye Holland

Published on: 21 February 2023

A cruise YouTube sensation has raised more than £9,000 for Mercy Ships by selling a toy replica of her friendly pet cat

Emma Le Teace, 28, from Sussex, or Emma Cruises , as she is known online, has 206,000 subscribers on YouTube alone as she reviews cruises for her international audience.

But when Emma is at home, her rescue cat Hudson enjoys making cameo appearances on her computer screen as she updates her followers on the latest deals and ‘try before you buy’ cruise tips.

So, it seemed a natural progression for Emma to start selling a plush toy version of accidental star Hudson as Captain Hudson, so others could enjoy him too. However she never expected to sell more than 1,300 of them.

Emma told World of Cruising: “I wanted to make some of these plush toys of my mascot, Hudson, and thought it would be great if my followers could take them on their cruises and post pictures of Hudson by the pool, or Hudson on deck. "But with the minimum order of 300 I realised that it might be hard to achieve, so I wanted to find a charity that could benefit from this and help me achieve that number. The result has surpassed my expectations.”

She was inspired to sell Captain Hudson toys for Mercy Ships after hearing a podcast interviewing Scott Harrison, whose life was transformed after volunteering for Mercy Ships in 2005. In the podcast, he explains how the transformational experience of volunteering for two years as a photojournalist for Mercy Ships in Liberia and Benin, led him to start his own non-profit, Charity: Water.

Emma read more about Mercy Ships and its two floating hospitals and felt that Captain Hudson cat toys could support this life-changing work. Speaking to World of Cruising , Emma said: “It’s incredible that we can totally transform a life with a surgery that is relatively simple and easy, things that we can easily take for granted here. "I find it fascinating on the ship side of things too, that you can make a hospital on a ship. I like the similarities between the new hospital ship and the ships I have been on.” Mercy Ships newest purpose-built hospital ship, Global Mercy, has elements of a ferry, as ship-makers, Stena Roro helped blend the ferry and hospital designs together to build the 174m long ship.

Emma has created around 500 videos and has been on 51 cruises, now averaging one cruise a month. It was during the pandemic enforced lockdowns that the following of her cruise channel, established in 2017, really took off – with so many people trapped at home and seeking escapism. In 2021, the maths graduate quit her data development job to devote herself full-time to being a YouTuber and cruise writer and works with travel agents to sell the cruises she features.

Mercy Ships UK chief executive, Joanne Balaam, said: “We are so thrilled that Emma has chosen to support us and raise our profile through her Captain Hudson toy. "When we last checked it had raised over £9,100 from 1,366 sales. Thank you so much to Emma and all her international followers who are helping to transform lives through surgery and medical training in regions where it’s needed the most.”

Inspiring Biography of Emma Le Teace (Emma Cruises)

By: Author Naveen Reddy

Posted on Published: January 30, 2024

Emma Le Teace is a popular cruising YouTuber.

She has 305K subscribers on her YouTube channel, ‘Emma Cruises.’

Also, Emma is a blogger.

Love for cruising-

At 11, Emma along with her family took her first cruise.

She and her brother, parents, cousins, aunties, uncles and grandmother flew to onboard the Norwegian Spirit and cruised to Alaska and Hawaii.

Thanks to this family trip, Emma fell in love with cruising.

She was amazed by the huge atrium and restaurants, food, waterfalls, pools, lifts in the commodious ship.

Since then, Emma started regularly cruising with her family on different cruise lines.

In 2012, Emma joined University of Brighton in Brighton, England to study for a Joint Honours in Mathematics and Business.

She graduated in 2015 with first grade.

Emma Cruises-

Since a young age, Emma has been cruising on the cruises of Norwegian Cruise Line and MSC Cruises and found them to be very relaxing.

In 2016, for the first time, she cruised on a Cunard Line cruise and even though she enjoyed it, she was surprised to find it not very relaxing, thanks to the strict dress codes.

As Emma was baffled by the experience, she wanted to share it with the world.

So, in 2016, she started her website Emma Cruises (initially she named her website as ‘Cruising Isn’t Just For Old People’) and started sharing her cruising experiences.

Through her website, Emma wanted to convince her friends to experience cruising and bust some of the common myths about cruising like cruising is expensive, boring, unsafe (thanks to Titanic) and is for elders.

YouTube channel-

Even though Emma watched the videos of ‘CruiseTipsTV’ and ‘Tips For Travellers’ YouTube channels, she never intended to become a YouTuber.

Later, she felt that she could communicate a few things better through videos than writing.

So, on 17 December 2016, Emma started her YouTube channel, ‘ Emma Cruises .’

On 2 June 2017, she published her first video titled ‘ 10 reasons to cruise at Christmas ’.

Initial struggles-

Initially, Emma was filming YouTube videos in her tiny 300 square feet flat (apartment).

As she didn’t have a dryer and any outside space, she used to dry her clothes in her tiny room itself which meant she had to plan to shoot her videos on the days in which she wouldn’t be drying her clothes.

As Emma found it difficult to manage her full-time job along with her side projects of website, YouTube channel and social media, she used to work on her side projects by staying up late or on the weekends.

Even though she found it difficult to work on her side projects and even though it took her a long time to see any success, she persisted.

At that time, Emma used to save up from her job for one big cruise per year and some weekend breaks.

Losing most of her revenue-

Eventually Emma realized the business opportunities of her website and YouTube channel and created a course by the name Cruise For Less and started doing consultations on cruise related things and YouTube strategies.

Apart from these, she also started earning money through advertisements on her YouTube videos, affiliate marketing and receiving donations through Patreon.

Everything was going well until the COVID-19 struck and a lockdown was announced.

Overnight Emma lost 95% of the traffic on her website and also the views of her YouTube channel dropped as at that time people weren’t interested about cruises.

As advertisers stopped cruising related ads, she lost most of her ad revenue on her website and YouTube channel.

Embracing the change & succeeding-

As the cruise industry got closed down due to the lockdown, Emma wasn’t able to film videos of cabin tours and ship tours.

So, she changed the direction of her content and started making videos of cruise news and informational videos targeting people who have never cruised before.

Thanks to this change in the content strategy, the growth of her YouTube channel skyrocketed.

As of January 2024, Emma has 305K subscribers on her YouTube channel, 41.1K followers on Instagram and 134K followers on ‘Emma Cruises’ Facebook page.

In addition to all the monetization methods mentioned before, Emma also earns from YouTube memberships, selling merchandise, receiving sponsorships and Cameo.

In 2018, she was voted as the ‘favourite cruise blogger’ at the Wave Awards.

In February 2021, Emma won the Income School’s Ultimate Content Warrior competition.

She had been featured in CNN Travel, BBC, The New York Times, The Guardian, The One Show and The Telegraph.

Emma films her videos with iPhone 14 and also uses a DJI Pocket 2 camera .

She hasn’t revealed her net worth.

Currently, Emma doesn’t have a Wikipedia page.

Quitting her job to become a full-time content creator-

In 2020 and 2021, Emma’s couple of healthy friends suddenly became seriously ill and this made her realize the shortness and unpredictability of life.

This inspired her to quit her job which she wasn’t very passionate about and follow her passion of cruising and the content business that she created around it.

So, in March 2021, Emma quit her job and became a full-time content creator.

Benefactions-

In 2019, she joined hands with Marella Discovery, and a captain shaved her head in the theatre, and she donated her hair to be made into wigs for the needy children. She also raised more than £5000 for a cancer support charity.

Emma has a pet cat; Hudson and she raised over $57,000 by selling Captain Hudson plushies for Mercy Ships.

Her favourite cruise destination is Norway.

Emma’s favourite cruise line is Viking Cruises, and she also likes Norwegian Cruise Line, Marella Cruises, MSC Cruises, Princess Cruises, Celebrity Cruises and Cunard Line.

Her favourite cruise trip was from Singapore to Tokyo with Princess Cruises.

Emma’s bucket list includes cruising to Australia, New Zealand and Pacific islands.

Woman shares brutal reality of cruise ship during storm that might put you off going on one

Woman shares brutal reality of cruise ship during storm that might put you off going on one

You are going to need your travel sickness tablets if you're heading onboard a cruise like this.

Olivia Burke

Olivia Burke

A woman has left a lot of people reconsidering their cruising plans after sharing the brutal reality of what it is really like when a storm hits and you are out sailing the seven seas.

Popular travel vlogger Emma Cruises often shares details of her lengthy voyages along rivers and oceans online to educate people on what they are getting themselves in for.

But footage from her 12-night Christmas cruise, which she embarked on with her family in December last year, has managed to frighten the life out of her YouTube subscribers.

She explained that she 'knew she was taking a risk' when she climbed onboard P&O Cruises Ventura ship knowing she had multiple consecutive days at sea, while also heading through the notoriously choppy Bay of Biscay .

Emma said that although she has plenty of experience, she 'was not prepared' for how bad the journey would be - and for how long it would take.

Emma Cruises documented her experience onboard the P&O ship.

Despite holding out hope that it would be smooth sailing all the way to Gran Canaria after the first couple days were 'relatively calm', the social media star couldn't have been more wrong.

Emma explained that things took a third for the worst on her third day of cruising , prompting the captain to make an early morning announcement warning passengers they would be encountering a patch of bad weather .

She said that herself, her mum and brother had dosed themselves up with some 'magical' travel sickness pills, but her dad was really suffering from the seasickness, which had been brought on by the rough waters.

The travel vlogger showed how the indoor pools were overflowing.

"My dad's been on plenty of cruises and he said this is the first cruise where he has ever been repeatedly physically sick," Emma continued, explaining that it also became 'difficult' to simply walk around the ship.

The cruise content creator explained that Christmas decorations were rocking back and forth, doors were swinging open and shut, water was gushing out of the pools and the higher decks were closed off as a safety precaution.

She couldn't even take refuge in her cabin because all of her clothes 'were clinking around' the wardrobe and 'the curtains were swaying', which she said made the room 'look haunted'.

She said her dad was left violently sick due to the bad weather.

The rough weather also managed to disrupt the entertainment on the P&O ship, as a theatre show was forced to be cancelled because they physically couldn't prance around on stage due to the vessel rocking back and forth.

Emma continued: "You can deal with one day of seasickness on a cruise, but we would say to each other, 'Oh well at least we'll be on dry land tomorrow'. How wrong we were."

She explained that two of her family members were ' bed bound ' due to their seasickness, even though they didn't get much relief from lying down and feeling themselves 'rolling side to side'.

Emma managed to capture part of the storm on camera.

But arguably the most horrifying part of her trip across the ocean was when lighting woke her up in the early hours of the morning.

She recalled: "I pulled back the curtains and sat and watched it for a while. There is something amazing - but very, very terrifying - about storms at sea. Storms at sea in the middle of the night are unlike anything else."

Even though she thought it couldn't get any worse, she had a rude awakening when she woke up the next morning and found out the ship was physically unable to dock in Madeira due to safety concerns.

And we all know what that means - another sailing day for Emma.

God help her father at that point.

Wrapping up her travel diary, the cruise connoisseur said that it was 'by far the worst weather' she had ever encountered.
