We have just arrived back from a most memorable and enjoyable trip which you organised for us. Right from the beginning of our email correspondence, we have been impressed by the quality, dedication and effort you have put into making our tour of Scotland enjoyable. Thank you for going beyond what I would normally expect. The tour and the associated paperwork and maps which you arranged were all marvellous and a good representation of Scotland. Whilst I thought that two days on Skye would be far too long, it was just right. Thank you again for your assistance and I shall endeavour through trip advisor and friends to spread the word about your wonderful company.

The overall experience exceeded our expectations. We loved the attention to detail. Annie obviously understood what type of planning we wanted. We were able to be spontaneous if we saw something that we wanted to include. Many of the owners of accommodations told us how happy they were to be working with Nordic Visitors. The travel guide was sturdy, survived the trip in one piece, even served as a plate for our lunches eaten in the car as we would return from a walk. We took scotch tape along to mend the map, it's pretty big to handle in the car. And a highlighter to add stops and reminders to help us when we start putting our pictures together. But, the travel guide will be the most helpful when it comes to putting our travel album together.
The places we stayed at were so very nice. I don't know how we would rank them. The owners were so very nice and helpful. Giving us directions and making recommendations on dinners and even making reservations for us. The locations of the accommodations were usually within walking distance of village centers. Picking up our rental car was speedy and well organized. A new car was ready for us and they took the time to go over key points of the car.
Rely on our Scotland-based travel experts to organise an adventure you’ll never forget. They’ve travelled the same routes and enjoyed the same activities you’re about to experience. Your hotels, transportation, and licensed tour guides are all regularly quality checked by our consultants to ensure first-rate quality.

Frequently Asked Questions About Scotland
If you're thinking of visiting Scotland, you might have a few questions. For your convenience we’ve collected the most asked ones so check our FAQs below. You can also find more detailed information in our Scotland Travel Guide and for booking and payment information, see our general FAQ page.
1. Is it safe to visit Scotland?
Yes, Scotland is a safe place to visit. The Scottish people are famously welcoming and hospitable to travellers. Of course, you should take standard travel precautions when in the bigger cities such as Edinburgh and Glasgow.
Should you find yourself in an emergency during your stay, you can contact your travel consultant on our 24 hour helpline. If it’s the local emergency services that you need, call 999 from any phone to get in touch with ambulances, fire and rescue, coastguard and the police. For more information about safety in Scotland, check out our travel guide .
2. Do I need a visa to visit Scotland?
Whether or not you need a visa to visit Scotland depends on your nationality and the length of your stay. If you’re an American, Canadian, Australian or European citizen, you do not require a visa. You will only need a valid passport.
If you’re from another country, you may need a visa to visit Scotland, unless you have dual UK citizenship status. These nationalities include:
You can answer a couple of quick questions on the UK government website to check if you need a visa .
3. How many days do you need to visit Scotland?
The amount of time you will need in Scotland depends on the attractions and areas you want to visit.
If you want a comprehensive tour, travelling across the country and including many of the Scottish islands, we’d recommend you take two weeks. This ensures you’re not rushing through destinations. Longer tours like this also showcase the best of the coasts, lochs, national parks, and places like the famed Orkney archipelago.
If you’re looking for a shorter stay, but still want plenty of sightseeing, we also have shorter, action-packed tours. These take one week or less and show you the most popular Scottish sights, such as the stunning Isle of Skye, Loch Ness, Glenfinnan and more.
4. Can I tour Scotland on my own?
Touring Scotland by yourself is a rewarding and enjoyable experience, and solo travel is an option many of our customers choose. If you’re looking for a flexible road trip where you set the pace and pick out all of the attractions that you want to see, then we’d recommend our top-rated self drive packages .
However, if you want a guide to accompany and teach you about each destination then a private tour would mean the convenience of a personal tour guide at a speed that suits you as well as a local knowledge of hidden gems.
Our solo travellers also come back from our guided small group tours with smiles on their faces and plenty of good memories. With a local guide to lead you and a maximum of 15 fellow explorers, you’ll always have company.
5. What is the best way to travel around Scotland?
This really depends on the type of travel experience you want for your trip. On a guided group tour , you’ll get to experience the sights in the company of like-minded travellers. We have carefully vetted and tested our local suppliers and promise that your tour group will always be small (a maximum of 15) so you receive the best and most personal service.
On the other hand, if you would like to see Scotland privately and at your own speed, then a self drive tour is best. With a rented car you’ll have more opportunities to stop for photos and go to viewpoints that aren’t always noted on the map. You also wouldn’t be bound to time limits and would have the freedom to go further afield for excursions and restaurants.
A privately guided tour is the best combination of the two and would see you or your chosen travelling party accompanied by an expert local travel guide where you set the pace as you see fit. You get to enjoy the personal one-to-one travel experience of a small group, but also keep the autonomy of self-drive tours.
6. What side of the road do drivers use in Scotland?
Motorists drive on the left side of the road in Scotland and the rest of the UK. Remember to occasionally check your position in traffic, especially in the countryside where roads are often narrow and winding. For travellers used to driving on the right, we advise booking an automatic transmission car, not a manual, for an easier drive.
7. What is the North Coast 500?
The North Coast 500 (also known as NC500 or the Scotland 500) is Scotland’s answer to Route 66, and is the ultimate Scottish road trip. The route is secluded, taking you along the stunning North Coast and through the Northern Highlands, where you’ll experience the wild and natural beauty of Scotland first hand.
Read our North Coast 500 guide for more information.
8. When is the best time to visit Scotland?
Deciding when to visit Scotland depends on the sights you want to see and the seasons you prefer.
If you want a festive experience or want to celebrate the new year (or in Scotland, Hogmanay) then visit in the winter or autumn seasons for crisp chilly days and possible snowfall, perfect for getting a hot chocolate and going exploring.
If you’re keen to have longer days and see lush green landscapes in a milder climate, then a spring or summer visit is for you. Keep in mind, Scottish weather could often be described as “four seasons in a day”. You can’t always depend on a forecast and should bring along waterproofs just in case.
Read our blog article for detailed info on the best time to visit Scotland .
9. What are the must visit places in Scotland?
Scotland has a wealth of history, architecture and natural beauty so there’s always a great day out to be had and a new area to visit – despite this, we have collected the most visited and highly rated destinations by our travel agents and customers.
The must-visit places in Scotland include:
10. Where is the best scenery in Scotland?
We may be biased but we think there is beautiful scenery across Scotland. Even the drive to your next destination will mean you pass by mountains, lochs and rolling hills. However, the most visited sights are found in the Highlands and islands, and along the coasts. Why not check our recommended Scottish attractions to see what Scotland has to offer?
The best scenery in Scotland includes:
11. Can I customise my tour package?
Our local experts have a wealth of knowledge to pass on to you, ensuring every sight or attraction you visit is one that you won’t forget. When creating packages, we plan routes extensively with this in mind so that our guests see the best of Scotland.
Should there be anything in particular you’re keen to see or areas you want to visit, though, get in touch with us. We can also add extra nights to your itinerary, so you can see more of Scotland. Alternatively, you can request a custom tour and your travel consultant will work with you to create your ideal trip across Scotland.
12. When should I organise my flight tickets?
We’d advise that you look over flights for timings and dates, but hold off purchasing until you’ve booked your preferred tour. Once you’ve had a confirmation email from your personal travel consultant, you should then choose and pay for your flights.
Why? Once you’ve been introduced to your travel consultant, you’ll have all the information you need to make informed choices on timings. If you have any questions, you can always contact your consultant for advice.
13. What should I pack to visit Scotland?
In Scotland, it’s not unusual to experience all four seasons in one day. So, no matter the season, you should have a range of essential items in your luggage:
An umbrella could be handy, and bird watchers may wish to bring binoculars. You may also need a UK travel adapter, which you can buy at the airport or in Edinburgh shops after you arrive. For more information, read our useful electricity information and packing guide .

Loved it! Great way to see what the highlands have to offer.
This was the BEST trip I could’ve asked for. Tim (our guide) knew every trail, mountain, and bit of history on Skye and the rest of Scotland. The only time we weren’t laughing on this tour was when we were sleeping in Mackbackpackers’ very own hostel in picturesque Kyleakin. We were so so lucky to be in this small group, enjoying the beautiful country with exceptional weather and company. The worst part? Leaving. It is a lot of walking and hiking, so make sure to bring appropriate shoes and clothes when you inevitably book this trip!!

Was well organised and good.
This was our first experience traveling on a tour. It exceeded our expectations. It was well organized and all of the details were taken care of so we could just relax and enjoy our vacation. The tour guide was fabulous!
Intrepid Travel
- Excellent - 11,675 reviews for Scotland tours
Intrepid needs to tighten up this tour. Two free afternoons is too much when one has only three days on the island. Either make the tour two full days or two full days with one full day free to make plans to go to Hoy or Rousay. Give people guidance on what to do on the free day.
I recently traveled with a friend to Scotland. We included a week long tour with Intrepid, booked through Tour Radar. We paid a very healthy sum for the tour, $3,460 each. The description said the trip was appropriate for ages 15-99. It also described two nights in Portree on Isle of Skye with a private van tour on the full day on Isle of Sky. My friend and I chose this tour because of the time spent in Portree and on Isle of Skye, the small group size, and that if it was okay for ages 15-99 then I’d be fine six months post a major knee surgery. What wasn’t included in the description and what happened: -No where did it say that we’d be expected to walk/transport our luggage on foot from Points of transportation to our lodging ranging from 10-20 minutes. My 94 year old father-in-law lives with us and is able bodied, but there’s no way he could have done these distances While also carrying/pulling luggage. My 87 year old mother could not accomplish this either. I could do it with my recovering knee, but I was slower and it also used up some of the energy I needed for enjoying walking portions of the tour. I didn’t anticipate having to schlep my suitcase for 15 minutes at a time over uneven sidewalks, etc. I would have packed differently had I known or we would have looked for a different tour. -My friend and I still wonder why Fort Williams was included on the itinerary as a place to stay? The only thing Intrepid provided was a walk to a castle that wasn’t open for visitors. The rest was on our own and there really wasn’t much happening other than a nice, little museum. We would have preferred more time on Isle of Skye. -We were notified prior to departure that our time on Isle of Skye would be at Kyleakin - not in Portree- and we’d have to arrange our own tour. Phone numbers were provided but no one on the tour had any luck booking anything prior to arriving, calls not returned, no availability, etc. So, 3-4 of our tour group spent 2 FULL hours or more on their phones while we were in Fort Williams trying to come up with some options for us. They pieced together a public bus ride to/from Kyleakin to Portree and a private taxi tour at our own expense! (After paying for it in the cost of our tour.) This should have been done by Intrepid!! Not once were we offered reimbursement. We didn’t have any time in Portree. We’d hoped to have lunch before our taxi tour, but all the restaurants were full. I found a to-go cup of tea and scone at a bike shop, then time in cue to use a bathroom. I’d looked forward to staying in Portree and had many places I had planned to walk to when not on the private van tour we were sold but didn’t get. Also, While staying in Kyleakin, the guest house did not provide a cooked breakfast, just light snacks in our rooms. Breakfast was provided, but we had to walk to/from the restaurant that was a mile each way. This used up time we could have been site seeing. Also, it would use up my knee energy for the days site-seeing. My friend went to breakfast but I skipped the walk to reserve my energy for site-seeing. Oh, and the whiskey tasting…we passed distilleries but we Were given a private lesson on tasting with our tour guide. While he did a fine job, the setting was not the same as a distillery setting. The room was bare, we used wine glasses, we were Supposed to take notes but no hard surfaces to write on, etc. Just wasn’t what any of us were expecting. I found Intrepid’s disregard for the changes and the misleading descriptions as to be very unprofessional. I use tours so that I don’t have to do all of the arranging. Why pay you if I’m going to have to do it myself? Next time I book a tour, I’ll be sure to avoid Intrepid. Many friends have asked about my trip. Unfortunately, the biggest disappointment was the tour. I’ve shared that multiple times now. I’m not the only member of the group that walked away Disappointed. We didn’t want to “blame” the tour guide, I don’t think he was responsible, he was just trying to keep us happy as he could sense how displeased we were. His answers too our questions were not satisfying at all. He seemed to be trying to cover for the company best he could.
G Adventures
- Excellent - 19,043 reviews for Scotland tours
Tour guide and bus driver were both excellent. Starting hotel was terrible and no where near the main area of Edinburgh. Breakfast there was a granola bar, croissant in a plastic wrap, a yogurt, and a juice box. Our hotel room in Inverness had a leaky ceiling which we reported to the front desk right away. They said they sent maintenance to fix the issue, but that evening it was leaking again. G Adventures itinerary is not reflective of the actual tour and for many extra activities listed there was no time to do them even if we had wanted to. Isle of Skye was a real highlight along with Inverness. We only received our tour vouchers the night before we left Canada and we had to call to get it. We will not consider G Adventures for any of our future travel needs.
This was my second G Adventures tour and it proved to be as enjoyable as the first one, which was the main reason my wife and I booked it. The small size of the tour group and the variety of people made it all the better. The tour offered a good balance between structured visits of major attractions and free time to explore on our own. I would not hesitate to recommend a G Adventures tour to anyone seeking a guided travel experience in the company of other like-minded travelers.

Wonderful trip. Saw a great variety of places.
Scotland was beautiful, the hotels and meals ....not so good. The coach and driver were excellent, while the tour director had exactly nothing to say while driving for hours thru magnificent landscapes. The Edinburgh hotel was passable, but was not in Edinburgh. The hotel in Glasboro was a Radison Blue, which was fine. the remaining hotels were awful. In one hotel we had a double bed, not a king, not a queen, but a double bed....really! In 2 hotels the fire alarms went off before 6AM in the morning. You had to react because these buildings were old and most may have lacked fire protection. The hotel breakfasts were generally awful, crowded, and long waits to get a coffee from the machine. The included dinners were terrible, the same menu night after night. One exception was the included dinner in Edinburgh, which was at a restaurant and was quality food and drink. everything after that was trash. breakfast on the last day in Glasgow was very nice, and what I would have expected from an upscale tour. One thing I thought was an insult, was the night spent on Skye. There was no included tour of Skye, so if you wanted to see anything other than the hotel, the only choice was an optional $29.00 bus ride for an hour or so. Bad weather forced the cancellation of the trip to Orkney...so we killed a day with a castle visit. Earlier this year we were on a Viking river cruise that missed a port for a mechanical reason. Before I got home, Viking sent me a $1000.00 credit for a future cruise. They know how to treat guests, Insight not so much. In summary, low end hotels that were in many cases dirty, and mediocre food, and a tour director that had nothing to say. that will be my first and last Insight tour.

Jamie was sensational
Wee Andy was a perfect host. He was personable, friendly and managed to learn all of our 11 names in minutes. He was very knowledgeable on the tour itinerary and showed a good sense of humour. We felt confident with him as a driver and tour leader as he was able to manage anything that was thrown at him, from itinerary changes due to storms as well as any accomodation issues. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour and cannot fail it at any level. Well done Andy and experience tours!

This was a trip I will always remember. Each day brought a different aspect of Scotland’s history to life and the landscapes were incredible. Our guides were amazing. Very knowledgeable, engaging, and focused on the needs of the group. I would highly recommend this tour and the guides that took us from the Bronze Age to today through stories and experiences.
Our guide, Alistair, was absolutely incredible, and the tour was definitely one of the best things I’ve ever experienced. This trip was for work but it didn’t feel like work one bit. The locations we went to were out of this world and the B&B was amazing as well. We saw so much in 3 days but it didn’t feel overwhelming. Alistair was also very patient and kept tabs on everyone. He was so extremely knowledgeable and had fantastic stories along the way! I will definitely be returning to Scotland after this tour!

The tour guide, Linda, was great as was the coach driver, Mike. The coach was very comfortable and the sites we visited were great. The tour was well organized and well executed. The meals were very good as well. The only thing making this “good” and not “excellent” is that I had to sleep on a pullout couch for three nights of the tour which much surprised me for something billed as a first class tour. So if you plan to go three to a room, be prepared for someone to be on a couch.
this guided tour was very good. we covered many places and did many activities. the guide was very good, always available, attentive and with a good knowledge. I recommend this tour

Overall it was a very nice trip, I think it was well laid out for traveling
This trip was a wonderful experience! The accommodation with one exception was fantastic! The end stops each day were all very nice. I gave my okay rating because we gleaned more information from our evening hosts than we ever received from Tour Radar. Be aware that It will be very important for you to get your own tour books, figure out a route between stops and obtain all your maps as this information was never provided. The final hotel in Edinburgh where you have two nights, B+B Edinburgh does not have any place to park a car so you will have to pay 4.10 pounds per hour to park on the street. Totally unacceptable to book a hotel that does not have room for the car that is provided. This is a very busy schedule to complete in the time provided so if you get the chance to extend the trip by adding another day in Portee on Skye and perhaps finishing the trip in St. Andrews then returning the car to the import then spending some time in Edinburgh on your own at the end of the trip.

I absolutely loved the Real Britain tour by Trafalgar! Our guide Paul was very friendly and knowledgeable and had a great sense of humour which made our time so enjoyable! Our driver Ian was also very good! I would definitely recommend this tour for anyone who wants a well-rounded taste of England! I was very happy to see a bit of Scotland as well! The only thing I would ask is that Tour Radar would put more specific details about the tour on their site as it appears on Trafalgar’s website. I would have appreciated the list of the names of the hotels, optional experiences, and which particular meals were included etc. Having finished the tour, I know better where I would like to stay longer the next time I’m in England! I got to see so much amazing scenery in the countryside as we travelled and sights at the destinations we stopped. It was truly a wonderful and unforgettable experience!

Majit was a superb guide, extraordinary storyteller, and fabulous traveling companion. He made each whisky distillery tour special knowing the people at each one and a lot about the whiskies. The stay at the Bowmore bed and breakfast was delightful. The food was excellent and the room was clean, cozy and very comfortable. Andrew and Allison were perfect hosts. We enjoyed the cultural stops and the history talks as we drove. The country really came alive for us in ways we hadn’t expected!
A great all round whisky experience. All of the distilleries we stopped at offerred something unique and interesting beyond the whisky tasting which in itself was excellent. The driver was great and accomodation superb. Highly recommended.

View Arthur's Seat
Not far from Edinburgh’s Royal Mile, you’ll find a taste of Scotland's wild countryside. Hike up windswept hills alive with heather flower in bloom, and sit atop an ancient volcano watching the sprawling city below.
Hear the story of the Royal Yacht Britannia
Step aboard the Royal Yacht Britannia and discover what royal glamor looks like at sea. The British Monarch’s boat for over 40 years, this extravagant watercraft is now permanently docked in Edinburgh. Spend a few hours exploring the vessel to see where the Princes spent their summers and world leaders and celebrities were once entertained.
Watch a Highland dance or two
There’s nothing quaint about the Scottish pastime of a Highlands dance. Walk into a pub and be enlivened by the many folk musicians playing fiddles, flutes, drums and accordions all around the Isles. You can watch with your pint or let the driving rhythms take you dancing. Either way, you’ll feel connected to the true spirit of Scotland.
Our top 5 things to do in Scotland
You'll uncover plenty of natural beauty and human history on our vibrant trips to Scotland. Stroll Edinburgh's historic Royal Mile, climb the rugged hills of Arthur's Seat and journey through the Highland wilderness.
Edinburgh Castle
The ancient walls of Edinburgh Castle have been touched by soldiers, kings, queens and even the odd pirate. Immerse yourself in Scottish history, gazing at crown jewels worn by Mary Queen of Scots and wooden doors vandalized by prisoners of war. Don’t miss the 1 o'clock gun that rings out over Edinburgh.
National Museum of Scotland
This unassuming Victorian building is brimming with history of Scotland and the world. Discover the wonders of nature, art, design, science and technology through this diverse collection. Spend a day wandering from room to room, never running short of things to learn.
Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum
Enjoy a captivating lesson in life and expression at Kelvingrove. Delve into natural history, arms and armor, fine art and everything between. From the Spitfire plane hanging from the ceiling of the west court to the collections of the Glasgow Boys and Salvador Dali in the east, this space will leave you spellbound.
Best museums in Scotland
Spend hours and days fascinated by the stories held in the museums of Scotland. Trafalgar's picks will prove these enthralling institutions shouldn't be saved for a cloudy day.
Originally served as a hearty meal to Scots on long journeys across Highland hills and heather-clad moors, the nation still loves Haggis. And with its rustic flavor and peppery kick, you will too. Have a taste and wash it down with a wee dram.
Cullen Skink
Hailing from the town of Cullen, this soup was made to warm the cockles of weary fishermen. Hence it’s made thick, creamy and comforting. With chunks of velvety leeks, potato and smoked fish, this smooth and flavorful meal is not to be missed.
Scottish Whisky
The Scottish isles are home to one of the world's most revered spirits - whisky. Speyside malts, smokey Islay drams and smooth blends can all be found here. Try it in a local pub or an award winning distillery. Either way, there's nothing quite like the taste of Scotch in the land where it was made.
Best food in Scotland
If it seems like Scottish cuisine is designed to warm your insides, that’s because it is. Come sunshine or rain, the dishes you'll enjoy on our trips are just another reason to love Scotland.
What to pack for Scotland
Walking shoes
Something comfortable and flat, with grip. There's a lot of exploring to do and the hills of Scotland are just as abundant in the cities as they are in the countryside.
Something warm
Even in the height of summer the Scottish night air has a bite. To make the most of your Scotland adventure, bring along a quality coat or jacket.
Woollen socks
A couple of pairs of woollen socks will serve you well in Scotland. They're warm and thick but surprisingly light to carry, perfect for protecting feet from long walks or the country’s beloved cold stone floors.
Prepare to sample the finest whisky distilleries around with hydralytes. Enjoy a tipple or two or three and you will still be fresh for adventures the following morning.
When planning a trip to Scotland, plan to pack less. Leave some space to bring home some of their specialties like shortbread for friends and cashmere for yourself.

The trip was wonderful and the support from the travel agency was unstinting. From the first day, they were quickly responsive and continually exceeded our expectations. We had no hiccups along the way, so we didn't need to call on them during the trip, but I am confident they would have sorted any issue that arose. Their reputation was reinforced by our guide in Bath, who said they were a great company to work with and emphasized that anybody who "picked up the phone" would provide the high level of service we'd experienced.

Our trip, starting and ending in Edinburgh and looping through the Highlands with an emphasis on the Isle of Skye, Inverness, and Speyside, was very enjoyable, much to the credit of our travel agency. We were awed by the sheer beauty of the Highlands, the warmth and friendliness of the Scottish people, and the country's fascinating historical sites. Our culinary experience was outstanding, with a variety of traditional dishes and contemporary cuisine prepared by world-class chefs. As could be expected, distillery visits gave us an opportunity to enjoy a range of whiskey flavors and styles. Jane, the owner of the travel agency, was accommodating in creating the ideal itinerary, finding superb lodging and dining experiences for us, and helping us through last-minute bookings due to a flight cancellation. Our driver/guide was personable, knowledgeable, timely, and professional. He entertained us with amusing Scottish lore, local and regional information, and eagerly adjusted the itinerary as needed to suit our personal tastes and interests.

We thoroughly enjoyed our first trip to Italy and Zicasso's travel partner did a marvelous job putting it all together. They were able to get things set up promptly as it was under three months from the time we decided to schedule the trip to the departure date. During that time, it went from being just my husband and me to adding our three adult sons, and they helped readjust the schedule and budget to make it more affordable for five of us. All three hotels (Rome, Florence, and Venice) were excellent regarding location, cleanliness, and customer service. That we were American and were unfamiliar with Italian transportation because we had never been to Italy, it was extremely nice to have private transfers and all the train transfers set up. Even when we arrived by train in Venice, they had a person there to meet us and assist with transport to the water taxi, then walk us to the hotel. Everyone was professional, helpful, and on time. The tour guides were also wonderful and so well-educated. There were several modifications needed as we worked through the itinerary and changes to who was coming when, and our tour operator was very easy to work with on these. The only negative was that it was non-refundable if you needed to cancel in the 70 days before departure, even though many of the hotels stated refundable if canceled within a few days. Many tours I looked at and used on this trip could be canceled and refunded within 24 hours. I found this a much safer way to schedule tours and not lose out if there were any issues affecting our tour days. It's always a risk not knowing if someone in the group will be ill or injured and not able to participate. There is a $250 service fee for each change if the team needs to make changes once the final itinerary has been completed, so that does need to be taken into consideration. We were fortunate that we did not need to make any last-minute changes. I would strongly recommend our travel agency and will use them for our next trip.
Aeneas' Travel Agency
Zicasso’s travel company helped plan our trip in October 2023, and it was an incredible experience. Beginning in the fall of 2022, when we initially sought assistance with planning our trip, our travel agent took a significant amount of time speaking with us, communicating via email, and, in response to feedback, providing updated itineraries that were more aligned with our family's interests and vacation style. Follow-up while we were in the country was exemplary. I don't think an email or text sent to the company failed to elicit a response in less than a few hours (even with some staff members being in the US and the time change). The post-trip call was equally enjoyable. It felt like we were working with close friends who were invested in the success and happiness of our family on this vacation. I hope it is more than once (now twice) in a lifetime that our family journeys to Scotland. When we are able to return, it will definitely be with our travel team's assistance! A special note of thanks to Zicasso for making it possible to locate a company as incredible as our agency!

I cannot express how wonderful our experience was with Zicasso’s travel specialist. The trip was seamless, with every last detail planned and accounted for. We traveled from the US to Dublin and drove to Belfast. From there we traveled to Bushmills, Galway, and ended in Dublin for a few days before heading home. All of our experiences were one-on-one (no group tickets!) and all tour guides were knowledgeable, friendly, and just had a great time. Our travel team was fantastic! I cannot recommend them enough.

On this amazing planet, one can find an abundance of places with spectacular scenery. Scotland is one of those. However, what you can’t find is our travel team. Had it not been for their professionalism and expertise, we would have probably buzzed along in our own car, going ooh and ah, and missing all the wonderful spots that made our trip so memorable. In the planning, Zicasso’s travel agent was always attentive and quick to respond with a suggestion or a nay or yay. Our travel agent was delightful company. She is a historian, geologist, and geographer, all rolled into one, with a great sense of humor. At one point we got stuck in an unprecedented weather event. Not to worry, our travel team was on it with an alternative, so we really didn’t miss much. But the icing on the cake is how much they care about their clients. It is obvious they love their country and want to share it with everyone. And they did, to the fullest and utmost extent!
Anne Marie's Travel Agency

Our anniversary trip to Scotland and Ireland, planned by Zicasso’s travel company, was unforgettable! Our travel agent was very easy to work with! She made several adjustments to our itinerary at our request and also to address some of the vendor's changes, such as one of our flights (originally from Inverness to Dublin) and one of our "in a local home, dinner and cooking lessons" (originally in Scotland). She was cognizant of my budget constraints and suggested I do some of the driving myself to reduce the cost of private drivers. Then, during our trip, little things like a wine and cheese board in our room upon our arrival in Edinburgh were very much appreciated! Also, when things didn't go as planned (flight delay from Aberdeen to Dublin), she was available (at 2am Pacific time) to help smooth out the bumps! Even the way our trip itinerary built up to a subtle crescendo with our stay in a castle made this a trip we will never forget!

The last true wilderness of the British Isles, Scotland’s Highlands have the sort of boreal vastness that reminds you of Canada or Alaska. Our specialists are passionate about Scotland’s landscapes and can show you the best ways to experience them, tailor-making your stay to include hikes along far-flung lochs, wildlife tracking with a photography expert or exploring under the wing of a countryside ranger.
They’ll also help you dig deeper into Scotland’s proudly distinct cultural traditions, from bagpiping to single malt whisky production, and an entangled, sometimes bloody history with England that’s still strongly felt by Scots. Aside from its mountainous terrain, Scotland boasts modern, forward-looking cities. The capital, Edinburgh , mixes history, a dramatic setting atop a volcanic plug, and a vigorous arts scene that culminates in the annual Edinburgh International Festival and the alternative Fringe.

Useful information for planning your vacation in Scotland
Scotland’s fresh, seasonal produce and wonderful distilleries provide great discoveries for food and drink lovers. With such a long coastline, fish and seafood is particularly good, and you’ll find smokeries in many small communities. Also look out for Cullen skink, a thick soup made with potatoes, smoked haddock, and cream.
Haggis, Scotland’s national dish, tastes far better than it sounds. A mixture of sheep's offal, onion, spices, and oats, it’s traditionally tied up in the lining of a sheep's stomach. You’ll often find it served with mashed neeps and tatties (rutabaga and potatoes). Porridge, boiled Scottish oats, is a staple on breakfast menus but is usually served salted rather than sweet.
Whisky is another local mainstay, and you’ll find distilleries across the country. The water source, distilling process, and ingredients used can result in distinct varieties of whisky in different regions, some mild and peaty, others strong and smoky.
English is spoken in Scotland. You’ll also see Scots Gaelic, a Celtic language once spoken across the country, on road signs and you may hear it spoken, especially in the Highlands and Islands. The country’s third language is Scots, which includes a wide range of regional vocabulary. Accents in Scotland can be strong, and many Gaelic and Scots words are used in spoken English, making the singsong lilts a challenge to decipher at times.
Scotland’s currency is the pound sterling (GBP). Scottish bank notes have their own design, however, and although they can be used elsewhere in the UK, smaller retailers might be reluctant to accept them. ATMs can be found all over Scotland, but you may not need much cash because most places accept credit and debit cards.
In Scottish restaurants, a tip of 10-15% is considered standard. Some restaurants will automatically add a gratuity to your total, and if so, no additional tip is needed. Tipping in pubs and bars is not expected. Tipping your tour guide or driver is always appreciated but is at your discretion.

Scotland’s raw natural beauty, rich history and culture, and historic cities mean that you’ll be spoiled for choice when it comes to things to do. Home to some of the UK’s last tracts of wilderness, Scotland is an ideal destination for hiking, with steep mountains, inky lochs, and a varied coastline laced with a network of walking trails. You can take a wildlife cruise along the coast , track wildlife with a photography expert, go fly fishing with a local guide , take a steam train through the Highlands , or cruise around fabled Loch Ness as you listen to the strains of a bagpiper. Explore castles and historic estates, discover street art and musical history, take a tasting trail through Edinburgh , or uncover Islay’s complex history as you wind down country roads to some of Scotland’s most lauded distilleries .
Scotland offers a great range of places to stay, from country mansions and grand castles to sleek urban hideaways and world-class golf resorts. You could choose to stay in a traditional Victorian hotel overlooking the sea on the Isle of Skye, a convivial inn on Loch Lomond , or enjoy baronial grandeur in a 17th-century castle in the Highlands. Gleneagles , a luxury escape set on a rural estate with three golf courses, attracts a wide crowd for its fine dining, indulgent rooms, and range of outdoor pursuits from fishing and shooting to riding and falconry.
In the cities, you’ll find comfortable international chain hotels as well as hotels with more character, such as stylish Georgian townhouses with chic, modern design or local landmark hotels brought up to date. Your specialist can make suggestions, but you’ll find plenty of ideas in our collection of places to stay in Scotland .
Scotland’s compact nature means it’s easy to combine visits to historic Edinburgh or edgy Glasgow with time spent in the remote Highlands or islands. Edinburgh with its lofty castle, evocative old town, and rich cultural scene, is often a first stop on any visit to Scotland. The country’s biggest city, however, is Glasgow , a thriving place known for its live music, street art and distinct character.
Heading north, blue-black Loch Lomond acts as a gateway to the weathered peaks and steep valleys of the Scottish Highlands . Untouched wilderness, wildlife watching, and historic estates await in the Cairngorms, the affluent university town of St Andrews is equally well known for its golf course, while the Isle of Skye with its rock pinnacles, rugged mountains, castles, and distilleries rewards and intrigues on many levels.
The Scottish train system is generally comfortable, and you’ll get to enjoy the scenic views even more if you’re not worrying about driving. Tickets can be booked online in advance and collected at your departure station, and ScotRail offer a number of rail passes, which are good value if you’re planning to travel mainly by train. If you travel outside peak morning and evening hours, you’ll also qualify for discounted tickets. Most trains offer a basic food service, but most passengers take their own food and drink on board.
A direct flight from New York City to Edinburgh in Scotland takes just under seven hours. Flights from the west coast take around 14 hours, but generally have a layover.
The time zone in Scotland is UTC+1 hour. Daylight Savings Time is observed between late-March and late-October.
The best way to get around in Scotland is to drive. With your own car you can easily get between sights and choose when to travel, but you’ll need to be ready to drive on the left.
Scotland’s rail and bus networks also cover most areas, though the Highlands and west coast islands are more difficult to get to by public transportation. We can also arrange private transfers if you prefer.
US citizens visiting the UK do not require a visa for stays of up to six months.
Your doctor can offer the best advice on recommended vaccinations for visiting Scotland. You’ll also find up-to-date recommendations on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website . Before you start any trip, it’s also a good idea to check you’re up to date on any vaccinations that are recommended at home.
You’ll need at least one blank page in your passport, which should be valid for at least the duration of your stay.

This is Scotland
The spirit of Scotland can be felt in its moors, romantic castles, historic St. Andrews Golf Course, and cities like Edinburgh and Glasgow, where the modern world meets the realm of knights. Stroll along Edinburgh’s Royal Mile (and browse the tartan and Scotch “whisky” shops), and end your walk at stately, Edinburgh Castle. Ride the train north from England, crossing the lunar landscape of the Cairngorms, and further past Inverness, where the signs are written in Gaelic and the line ends across the channel from Skye. Liberty Travel’s vacation consultants can help you explore Scotland.
Scotland at a Glance
Currency: British Pound (£); Euros can be used, but aren’t readily accepted
Power Up: Type G (3-prong plug), 230 V
Popular Drink: Scotch whisky
Must Eat: Haggis
Language: English
Tipping Customs: Tipping at casual restaurants and pubs is not customary, but in fine dining establishments a tip may be offered for good service. Feel free to round your taxi ride to the nearest pound. It is also customary to tip hotel porters around £2.
Weather: Even in the summer, you can experience all the seasons in a single day, especially in the Highlands. Bring layered clothing, an umbrella, and a rain jacket.
Best Time to Visit: Any time of year. June to August are the best months to visit the Highlands, and in the height of summer in Skye, though the sun does indeed set, you can still see some light on the horizon. Spring (late March to early June) and autumn (September to November) are quieter and offer glimpses of spring blossoms and fall foliage.

From lt globetrotter.
A trip to Edinburgh isn’t complete without experiencing the Edinburgh Castle, Old Town, and of course, its many famous festivals. With creative stores, old Edinburgh-style taverns and a mention-worthy nightlife, Scotland’s capital is certainly one of Europe’s coolest.
Top Things to Do in Scotland
Royal Relics at Edinburgh Castle Feel the royal spirit in the Great Hall, see the Stone of Destiny, and view the dazzling Crown Jewels.
Experience the Ancient Orkney Islands Discover the Neolithic ruins of Skara Brae, a 5,000-year-old preserved village, and the ancient circles of Brodgar, Scotland’s Stonehenge—all north of Scotland’s mainland.
Search for Nessie Even if you miss a glimpse of Nessie, the incredible landscape around Loch Ness speaks for itself.
Hike Scotland Nature awaits you in Scotland’s Cairngorms National Park and Loch Lomond.
Haggis with a Splash of “Whisky” Some things are synonymous with Scotland and haggis is also one of them. Try this savory pudding of oatmeal, turnips, potatoes, and spices stuffed into a sheep’s stomach with a shot of whiskey. And, don’t worry, some shops cook up a vegetarian version, too.

- No te preocupes.
Si no, no pasa absolutamente nada.

Dia 12 vuelta a Madrid.
Vamos directo a edimburgo.
Y tanto que me has resuelto mis dudas!! Madre mía que suerte he tenido de conoceros!! Muchísimas gracias!! Seguiré atenta a vuetras novedades! Y todo lo que haceis!! Me encantan!!
Espero haber resuelto tus dudas, Rosa!! Un abrazo! 😘😘
Hola buenas!!

More information about Scotland
A magical country, known for its breathtaking Highlands and historic cities, Scotland is one of the nations of the United Kingdom, covering the northern reaches of the kingdom and including 790 islands , dotted across the North Sea, Atlantic Ocean and the Irish Sea. The capital, Edinburgh , is famed for its annual Edinburgh Festival, whilst other notable cities include Glasgow, Aberdeen, Inverness and Dundee .
This small country has a fascinating heritage, displayed in its castles, monuments and unique culture and traditions. A trip to Scotland evokes images of wild, rugged Highlands , mist-covered lochs , tartan -clad bagpipe players and, not forgetting, delicious Scottish whisky .
From the fantastic museums and galleries of Edinburgh to the remote ruins of Urquhart Castle , perched on the shore of legendary Loch Ness, Scotland is filled with cultural treasures and is a great choice for an organized package tour vacation. Scotland is known for its unpredictable weather, with cold winters and mild summers. The best time to visit Scotland is during the spring or autumn when the Highlands are at their most colorful and the crowds have dissipated.
Some of the more popular travel destinations in Scotland are the rugged peaks of the Isle of Skye , the vibrant city of Edinburgh , the picturesque surroundings of Loch Lomond , historic Glen Coe and the wildlife haven of the Shetland Islands . Nature lovers can trust Scotland to provide some of the most pristine wildernesses left in Western Europe today. The Northern Highlands, Cairngorms and the Outer Hebrides are home to the most unforgettable landscapes, but history-buffs might prefer visiting the historic castles of Perthshire and Aberdeenshire on a vacation to Scotland.
History of Scotland
The rich history of Scotland is what makes the country such a popular travel destination, immortalised in films such as Braveheart and the legendary poetry of national hero, Robert Burns . From its ruined castles to the mysterious standing stones of Orkney and Shetland, incredible monuments over 10,000 years old, there are countless historic sights to explore if you travel to Scotland.
In the 5th-century Celts arrived in Scotland from Ireland and became known as Scots. The inhabitants at the time, known as Picts , had strong community ties and tribal culture, although the Picts and Celts unified in the 9th-century and the territory soon became known as Scotland. The Romans famously build Hadrian’s Wall to keep the Picts , known for their brightly colored war-paint, from invading Britannia in the early Middle Ages.
One of the best known historical figures from Scottish history was William Wallace , who led the Scots against the forces of Edward I of England at the Battle of Stirling Bridge after the English monarch claimed to right to the Scottish crown in the 13th-century. Despite early victories, eventually, Wallace met a gruesome end. As such an important emblem of Scottish Independence , there is a William Wallace Monument in Stirling that you can visit on a tour of Scotland and closeby is the very bridge where the famous conflict took place. Another icon of this era was Robert the Bruce, who successfully secured Scotland’s independence at Bannockburn in 1314.
In 1603 , James VI of Scotland inherited Ireland and England , forming a union of three nations, a precursor to the United Kingdom of today. A century later, the Act of Union of 1707 created the United Kingdom , but led to further power struggles between England and Scotland, resulting in a series of Jacobite uprisings. Today, Scotland is a devolved nation of the UK and you can find the Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh.
Throughout the Highlands and Lowlands of this historic nation, you’ll find relics of its turbulent past. Fortresses such as Caerlaverock and castles such as Stirling and Edinburgh pay testament to the rich and complex heritage that shaped modern-day Scotland.
Nature in Scotland
Considered one of the most beautiful countries on earth, Scotland is jam-packed with natural wonders, from towering mountain peaks to glistening lochs and atmospheric glens. A package tour of Scotland will unveil an unforgettable mix of landscapes and it is no surprise that many choose to visit Scotland for hiking trips and walking vacations.
Of all the natural spectacles to be found on a tour of Scotland, the Three Sisters are perhaps the best known and loved. Three steep ridges, nicknamed the Three Sisters rise from the atmospheric Glen Coe Valley, an area of rich natural beauty in the Scottish Highlands. Visiting the Three Sisters is a spectacular sight at any time of year and the untouched landscape is a haven for walkers and wildlife enthusiasts.
Other unmissable natural sights to discover if you travel to Scotland include Green Loch in Glenmore Forest Park, a magical green body of water nestled in a lush forest, Galloway Forest Park , an area so remote that it is one of the world’s best destinations for stargazing and Rannoch Moor, one of Europe’s last remaining true wildernesses, home to deers, grouse and other wildlife.
Scotland is also home to the tallest mountain in the British Isles: Ben Nevis. Situated close to the town of Fort William , a great base for excursions along the West Highland Way , Ben Nevis reaches the lofty height of 1,345 meters at its peak. More than 100,000 walkers attempt to scale this mountain every year.
Scottish Culture
More than just tartan kilts and bagpipes , Scotland has a rich and diverse national culture which the Scots are rightly proud of. In recent years, Scottish history and culture have peaked interests around the world thanks to the popular television series Outlander , which is set in the days of the Highland clans. Originally small kinship groups, clans still endure today, with more than 500 active clans , each with its own unique colorful tartan pattern. A cornerstone of traditional Scottish culture, tartan kilts are worn for special occasions and if you visit Scotland you can even create your own tartan at one of the famous Woolen Mills , found throughout the country.
A celebration of Scottish culture, the Highland Games is a must-see if you travel to Scotland in the summer. This annual event celebrates traditional games, music and dress . Scots also love modern sports and Scotland is said to be the ‘home of golf', with the famous St. Andrews Golf Course considered to be the oldest golf course in the world. Football is also at the heart of modern Scottish culture. Celtic and Rangers are the Scots’ best-loved football teams.
If you take a vacation to Scotland you’re sure to fall in love with its amazing food and drink scene. Of course, the most famous culinary export is Scotch Whisky , known and revered worldwide. Speyside Whiskies , which are distilled near the River Spey in Strathspey are the most popular varieties and a trip to Scotland is incomplete without tasting this fiery ‘ Scottish water ’. If you prefer something non-alcoholic, Irn Bru is a close second when it comes to Scotland’s favorite drinks. This fizzy soft-drink is bright orange and is widely consumed throughout the country.
When it comes to food, Scotland is home to an innovative and thriving food scene, particularly in the major cities where you’ll find a host of both trendy and traditional restaurants. In the last few decades, Scotland has moved away from the stereotypical image of deep-fried chocolate bars and haggis , although you can still find these traditional treats in the local chip shop or on the dining table on Burns Night.
If you visit Scotland for the first time you might be surprised by the wide variety of slang words and local dialects still in use today. Scotland is famed for its unique sayings and slang and, in fact, there are two official languages: English and Scottish Gaelic.
Scotland is filled with unparalleled natural beauty, vibrant cities and a whole host of historic landmarks to explore. Travel to Scotland and discover a country steeped in tradition, full of legends and landscapes.
