company receives flight payment and doesnt issue ticket

A companhia aceita o pagamento do valor do voo no entanto informa que nao pode proceder com o booking por nao confiar na proveniencia do valor e pede codigos de confirmacao. Nao sei a que codigos se referem e o banco tambem nao me sabe dizer. Se o cliente pede para cancelar o booking a companhia diz que processara o reembolso em 5 a 7 dias uteis, ficando o cliente sem o valor para re-marcacao da viagem. Tambem nao esta certo se recebrei o re-embolso uma vez que ainda nao passaram os 7 dias.

TravelUp customers have to contend with ever-changing T&Cs

Complaints from travellers claiming for a full refund spiral as they now face a £50 deduction

TravelUp has changed its terms and conditions since the pandemic and is retrospectively applying them to customers. It initially promised customers a full refund for cancelled flights. Then it imposed a fee of £75 per passenger plus a 2% charge. It subsequently changed that to £75 per booking, plus the 2% charge, then reduced it to £50 per booking. It’s now finally set up an online refund claim form, but that seems to require us to accept this fee.

Laments from TravelUp customers are echoing through my inbox and nearly 3,000 have joined a Facebook page dedicated to secure full refunds. Some have been faced with fees amounting to three figures that have almost eliminated the refunds remitted by the airlines. Until mid-April, the terms and conditions stated that a £75 per ticket fee applied if a customer cancelled or amended a ticket, whereas if the flight was cancelled by the airline they would receive a full refund “which we receive back from supplier/airline”.

In April a line was added, stating that when airlines refunded a flight they had cancelled, TravelUp would make an unspecified “deduction of credit/debit card (non-refundable) charges incurred by us at the time of the original booking and a small administration fee”. This fee turned out to be the £75 per head plus 2% of the ticket price.

In May, TravelUp’s CEO, Ali Shah, wrote to disgruntled customers announcing that the fee would be reduced to a flat rate of £50 and claimed that they had misinterpreted the initial promise of a full refund.

“Our terms and conditions originally stated that the customer was entitled to a full refund of what we receive back from the airline or supplier,” he stated. “This will never be the same as the amount you paid us when you booked, as this includes our service charges and we appreciate this has led to some customer confusion.”

Now the website’s FAQs are claiming that passengers who refuse to accept a rebooking or a credit note for a cancelled flight are deemed to have cancelled the flight themselves and are therefore requiring further service from TravelUp for which they must pay the £50.

The company’s contortions are troubling on many counts. Terms and conditions can’t be changed and retrospectively applied to bookings. It’s been illegal since 2018 to impose a surcharge for credit and debit card fees on customers. A fee of £75 per ticket plus a 2% charge – or even the new flat rate of £50 – is by no means “small” as claimed in the amended terms. And if the price charged for flights includes a service fee, as Shah states, this should be made clear at the time of booking and broken down before the payment stage.

TravelUp pointed me to a pre-existing clause half way down its terms and conditions which states that a “reasonable administration charge” will be deducted from refunds if a flight-only booking is cancelled by the airline. This is confusingly included under “Payments” rather than the section on cancellations and, since it gives no indication of what sum it regards as “reasonable”, customers would have no way of knowing what they were letting themselves in for.

Moreover, this term does not apply to accommodation-only bookings, yet PC of London says he was told that TravelUp would retain 25% of the refund for the cancelled hotel room he had booked. When he tried to claim a full refund via section 75, TravelUp disputed the claim and, by way of “evidence”, sent his card issuer the amended terms and conditions in which the right to charge a credit card fee and an administration charge had been added under the hotel cancellations section.

TravelUp was invited to comment on his case.

At the time of publication, nowhere on its website does TravelUp advise customers that they can apply direct to the airlines for a refund under Denied Boarding Regulations and thus save themselves the fee. Skyscanner, the online portal which directed many of the affected customers to TravelUp deals, told me that it has temporarily ceased its relations with the company because of its conduct. “We have been working closely with TravelUp to try to address our travellers’ complaints and concerns,” it says. “However, it’s clear that the unprecedented demands from Covid-19 cancellations, coupled with restricted customer service capacity from lockdown office closures, have meant that their customer service and refund processes are overwhelmed. We have therefore removed TravelUp from Skyscanner’s search results until such time as we are confident that they are back on top of things and that traveller cases have been resolved.”

Research by campaign group Which? has found that a number of travel companies are deducting legally questionable fees of up to £125 from customer refunds, while failing to explain their rights to claim direct from the airline. “Customers already left out of pocket by cancellations will be outraged to be told they need to pay to get their own money back,” says Rory Boland, editor of Which? Travel. 

“The number of customers still waiting for the refunds they are legally entitled to is mounting, so the regulator must take action against any companies it finds breaking the law by failing to provide full refunds for cancelled package holidays.”

So I am on my way to a holiday in Feutuerventura in June.

We are looking at using Travelup.com just to book a hotel - it looks really good and a nice price, though as I do not know and have not used the site before I'm worried it's a scam. The price I found for the hotel we want is around 40 euro cheaper per night than what I can find on other sites.

Do they “work with Skyscanner” or just pay to advertise on that site. Don’t assume there is a relationship based on any guarantee, endorsement or recommendation. It’s usually just third-party sites paying to advertise so their deals are displayed.

Out of curiosity I just looked at the TravelUp website and searched for some Singapore hotels (as I know them well and know their usual prices). The first hotel I saw listed came out at 68.88 Euro more than it’s usual price. Then I looked up a Brisbane Hotel I know well and it was 145.94 Euro on TravelUp (but is 84.50 Euro if I book it on other websites).

All the prices I saw on TravelUp looked way over what they are on other well-known and reliable booking sites.

It is a legitimate site not necessarily a good one.

I agree wiht the other two replies. TravelUp is not a scam site, but neither do I think that it's a good company to use. I'm sure that more bookings go well than don't, but all the same I wouldn't trust a price that is 40 euro per night lower than anywhere else.

My experience is, like Avanti, that their prices are a bit higher than booking direct, so I'm even more suspicious in this instance.

"Legit" as in legitimate rip-off. Avoid this site like the plague.

It's not even an easy to use website

you select a hotel for more information, decide that you don't like it and want to go back to the list and it recreates the list from scratch having conveniently forgotten all of your previous selections

It wont let you open up each hotel in a new window to avoid that problem

and half the hotels that they claim are in the city you are looking for are really 20 km away.

where do they get these people?

In principle, if a company makes an error then they should absorb the cost of that and not pass it on to their customers. But poor companies won't worry about that, because they are poor.

They advertised FREE CANCELLATION on my booking but then charged me $15 per person to cancel my reservation. Even though FREE should mean free, they referred me to the "fine print". I would not recommend this site to anyone

Did the T&C's explain why free wan't free? I suspect that here were certain exclusions listed, was that the case, or was it something else?

Great. Always find the best price at Travel Up with clear descriptions of how many and what kind of beds are in each room!

Sad to say I would never use them again. I had to change the date within 72 hours because of a work meeting. When I tried to rebook our hotel, the price was now $900+ more for the same 7 days. I checked directly with the hotel and their rate was $560 less than Travel Up. I told Jacob to match it or cancel it. After a few more blah blah emails from Jacob, I finally got canceled. A rip off and not at all a nice experience.

I paid extra to get the ability to change flight dates and I need to change my departure date for an extra £250, as my wife is flying for an urgent medical procedure. The customer service have been pretty much useless. I have been on hold for 38 minutes until the call dropped. This morning, the agent refused to deal with me and said my wife needed to reply to an email that was never sent. This is been extremely stressful and I can't get through to to someone who can deal with my request, even though I'm paying for it. Terrible service from very unfriendly customer service agents.

Don't waste your time and money with…

Don't waste your time and money with this company. I had to cancel my trip due to a family member being in critical condition in hospital. When I contacted the company, they refused to provide me with a refund or credit voucher for the trip, despite cancelling weeks in advance of the planned trip date. They were unsympathetic to my situation and refused to provide any alternative option for me. Only after multiple emails, did they offer me a £41 refund from a £367 purchase!!! I will be sticking to MyTrip in the future, and suggest that everyone does the same. Their customer service is 10000x better and have previously provided me with a credit voucher for a trip where refunds are unavailable.

Avoid like the plague.

Whilst using flight search engines, if you see this company appear, please move on. Do not put yourselves through the torment I had to endure when I booked a trip to Lebanon for travel in November 2023. God help you if you have the misfortune for the lazy Sam Ozy to answer your phonecall as he will make you pull your hair out with his disgusting attitude and poor social skills. I actually posted a positive review for these cowboys. But within a few weeks of booking my trip to Beirut, the FCO started warning against travel to South Lebanon due to the intensity of the current Gaza war. travelup would not refund me, telling me that Turkish Airlines had to authorise the refund. I was left hanging for weeks, unable to book another trip and not knowing if I will get a full refund. After contacting Turkish Airlines in London, I was told that travelup were able to do the refund all along. travelup then tried to take a £50 cancellation fee albeit the reason for cancellation was not my choice but rather FCO regulatory advice. In the end, travelup kept £15 of my money but I cut my losses as did not want to deal with their lies anymore. The Karachi Contact Centre staff are lovely,polite and most professional but seemed to be bound by nonsensical rules. Sam Ozy really tested my patience and I would never wish my worst enemy to even deal with him. I hope they enjoy my £15.00. I would never ever book or recommend these crooks again. If trustpilot need proof of the nonsense I had to go through then emails are available. AVOID this company at all costs.

In our opinion, after receiving complaints from people scammed by TravelUp personally, we do not recommend booking your trip with TravelUp.

TravelUp is a tour and travel company that offers many holiday packages. They claim to provide one-of-a-kind vacations for those who want a fast-paced and exciting vacation, as well as those who want something more leisurely and relaxing.

They also state they offer a one-stop solution for your holiday to any imaginable destination in order to provide their customers with a broad selection of holiday destinations.

TravelUp is based out of the UK and was founded in 2004, and has grown remarkably fast. They have even been nominated for several awards in the last few years, including Best Online Retailer and Best Flight Booking Website by the British Travel Awards in 2019 and their CEO picking up the EY Entrepreneur of the Year's Scale-Up award for London and the South region.

The agency has an IATA accreditation, providing approval to promote best practices recognized across the aviation industry worldwide. In addition, its package holidays are protected by its ATOL license (ATOL 7227) in the United Kingdom and its ARC license within the United States of America.

Many customers are unsure whether TravelUp is legit or not, so we have done some digging to find out more about this company. We have looked at their website content and customer reviews to see if any red flags have been raised that might cause concern.

On Trustpilot, TravelUp has an average rating of 4.2/5 stars. This is a pretty good score at first glance. There are thousands of people who have posted reviews on this site. While most of the ratings are positive, there were still some troubling things that came up.

What can we tell from the reviews?

Customer reviews with options ranging from sad, ambivalent, and happy

The first thing to note is the customer reviews posted on the internet. These are a great indication of how a company operates, what kind of people they attract, and whether or not their claims about providing certain services are legit. Of course, it does need to be taken with a grain of salt, too, as we have had a personally great experience with many companies that have a host of negative reviews. After going through these reviews, we found that a few recurring themes appeared to be raising some red flags.

First, many customers are unhappy with their customer service, claiming they can take days or even weeks to respond. One customer claims they had trouble contacting the company, and another states that their e-mails were constantly ignored. Many also mention being left waiting on the phone for long periods or holding forever before they were able to speak to someone.

Several people claim unexplained charges on cancellation, such as a £50.00 charge, even though the customer booked a Free Cancellation service. What can we tell from their website?

TravelUp's website is simple and easy to navigate, the UI/UX is good but not exceptional. Some users have suggested that they find it hard to navigate. For example, if you select a hotel, then decide that you don't like it and want to go back to the list. It recreates the list from scratch, which can be inconvenient and frustrating for some people. This issue can be solved by opening up each hotel in a new window/tab, but the website does not allow you to do so, which is problematic. And half of the hotels shown are 20km away from the city you are looking in. It limits your options.

The site does not make it obvious who is running the company. No information is given on the people on board, which some users found troubling, especially those with customer service issues. The lack of precise contact details can also be a problem if you need to get in touch with them quickly.

Loving Couple Planning Vacation Trip

While the website isn't terrible, certain things do stand out. TravelUp claims to have the best deals on flights, hotels, and package holidays but is that true? Many of their customers have had issues with their customer service and the actual services.

Their website is easy enough to navigate, but some users suggest it can be hard to find specific information if you are unsure where it is.

So, what's the final consensus? It seems as though TravelUp is a company that pays close attention to its marketing but has not been able to live up to those promises.

If you find a deal that's way too good to miss out on, make sure to get in touch with them before booking anything. Check for customer reviews and any other sources of information that you can get your hands on.

The company appears to be legit, so if you want to give this start-up a shot, then take the plunge. But, to be fair to TravelUp, sometimes things go wrong in a business, and they learn from it and improve over time, so if they've lasted this long, maybe they will reach new heights as a company.

There was an issue with it accepting the - in my surname but called customer support and they assured me that leaving a space instead would be fine despite this not being on my passport. At first, I was worried when I booked with them because my main airline informed me that no payment was made from Travelup and that my flight would be cancelled. That's when I started to read negative reviews which made me even more anxious. However, my overall experience ended on a positive side. I received my e-ticket within 72 hours and every time I called Travelup, I was assisted accordingly. I want to give a special shoutout to Faraz, the agent who helped me. This is the first time I booked my…

This is the first time I booked my flight through travelup after reading several reviews about them. The booking was pretty straightforward and my tickets were confirmed and the e-tickets arrived the next day. A week after booking the tickets, o was randomly checking my flight schedule and noticed that the whole schedule had changed, so contacted the agents and they said that there was a major schedule change from the airline itself and that an email was sent to me few days ago, however, this email was in the junk and I never noticed it and it got deleted, so they immediately sent me another email and asked to respond to it and I did the same. Special thanks to Roy Edwards, who was so efficient in organising a new schedule for me which suited my needs. The next day my new flight schedule was emailed to me and I was relieved and happy. Two days later I also received the e-ticket for my new flight schedule. A big thanks to you Roy. Keep up your great work. I would definitely recommend travel up to book your flight journey.

Lots of hidden charges

The price stated was GBP 446 and the charge at payment was GBP 468.The never said there were any additional charges nor have they given details of it. That's frustrating. will never use them again.

Terrible experience with this company…

Terrible experience with this company who offered us alternative flights following a flight change and booked us onto flights that do not exist and have refused to resolve this issue, and ignoring all contact. Be warned if you have any changes to your flights or cancellations you will not receive any help or support. Do not use this company! In addition to travel up's response. We were offered flights from Tokyo to London on City Airport after our flights were changed meaning we would miss our connecting flight we accepted this. When we received our tickets, they were for a different final destination. We notified travel up immediately that they had issued the incorrect ticket and the reported they would resolve the issue. It has now been over 3 months and we are still left with the incorrect ticket. To respond to our review with contact us, is unbelievable. We have been contacting your admin team, one of your managers Gary Smith and even your CEO, mr Shah on almost a daily basis for the past 3 months and we have been totally ignored. You have provided a disgraceful service. If you are reading this review, please I implore you not to use this company! Still over 13 weeks later no resolution and no responses to our letters or emails no response since they replied to our last review asking us to contact them.

    The first hotel I saw listed came out at 68.88 Euro more than it's usual price. Then I looked up a Brisbane Hotel I know well and it was 145.94 Euro on TravelUp (but is 84.50 Euro if I book it on other websites). All the prices I saw on TravelUp looked way over what they are on other well-known and reliable booking sites.

    Awful customer service. I have used Travelup a number of times in the past. If all you want is the cheapest ticket, then they can be good, provided there are no problems with your flights.
