OVERVIEW OF THE TOUR

Explore everything Kangaroo Island has to offer on this two-day tour that takes in the stunning wildlife and beautiful scenery that characterises this part of Australia.

Day 1 (Lunch)

We start the tour in Adelaide aboard the coach and make our way to one of South Australia’s most iconic locations. Enjoy the scenery along the picturesque Fleurieu Peninsula as we make our way to Kangaroo Island. Once we reach Cape Jervis, we board the ferry and enjoy a relaxing cruise across the Backstairs Passage to Penneshaw. Upon arrival our tour guide will introduce themselves, ready to show you Kangaroo Island.

Our first stop is to the home of a rare colony of Australian Sea Lions at Seal Bay. This colony of endangered sea lions is the third-largest in Australia and you can walk amongst them with a local ranger as they laze about on the sand. After you have learnt all about the seals from your expert guide and have taken ample photos, we’ll head to refuel with a delicious 2-course lunch.

After lunch, we head to Flinders Chase National Park on the western edge of the island. The area is already bouncing back from the terrible bushfires of 2020 and all around you can observe life coming back to this important habitat on Kangaroo Island. Keep an eye out for wallabies and other wildlife as we make our way around the park, stopping in at Remarkable Rocks and Admirals Arch for some amazing photos of the rugged coastline.

Our final stop on day one is the Kangaroo Island Wildlife Park, where you can meet some sleepy koalas, get close to some kangaroos and meet other iconic native Australian wildlife. As the day comes to an end, we’ll drop you at your private accommodation to rest up for another day of exploring KI!

Day 2 (Breakfast & Lunch)

After a delicious buffet breakfast at your hotel, we will meet up for our first stop of day two - the Raptor Domain. This rescue and rehabilitation centre for Australian birds of prey offers you the chance to admire wedge-tailed eagles, sea eagles, kookaburras and different owls all up close and in action. Be amazed during a 'Birds of Prey' display and see these magnificent Australian raptors in action.

Next up we make our way to the Emu Ridge Eucalyptus Distillery. Learn about the process of making eucalyptus oil and other products before enjoying another appetising 2-course lunch. Save some room for dessert as we head to Clifford’s Honey Farm after lunch for a guided tour of their honey room and a chance to sample some of their unique honey-based products.

In the afternoon we stop at Pennington Bay for some photos of this spectacular sandy beach, before enjoying a wine tasting at local winery False Cape Wines. As the day comes to end, enjoy some dinner at the Penneshaw Hotel (own expense) before jumping on the ferry back to Adelaide.

  • Tristan J 0 contributions 4.0 of 5 bubbles Great Day out. People were first class. More stops would have been better. Roadworks took the shine off a bit! Kangaroo island wow. it looks like I’d accidentally booked the wine tour! Carl and Ross cheers for the quick thinking getting me on a the right tour - Top driving from my eventual Peter too! Shame the arch was closed for maintenance. and we got stuck in over an hour of traffic from island roadworks! Surely they can run an extra ferry for tradies to work later so that you don’t end up losing half your ‘tour day’ to traffic lights! Aside from that cracking day, some lovely food too - thank you! • 408karenn 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Many Animals and knowledgeable driver. This is a long day, but well worth it. We left Adelaide at 7:15 a.m. and returned about 10:00 p.m. The drive to the ferry took 1.5 hours, but we did see many kangaroos, wallabies, and birds. The ferry trip took about 45 minutes, and we were warned to take a motion sickness pill. We did, but on this particular day, we would not have needed it, as the sea was very calm. Once we arrived on the island, we were very fast to board (but make sure you use the restroom either before you get off the ferry, or before you board the bus), and off we went. Unfortunately, we ran into considerable road construction, which caused some of our stops to be shorter than we would have liked. But that is certainly not the fault of the tour company. All of the attractions on the island are far apart, so we traveled the entire length of the island, but we saw everything we wanted to see, and we were back at the ferry by 7:00 p.m. to begin the ride back home. If there were a next time, we would hope the road construction would not slow us down, but we would go again in a heartbeat. Oh . . . And the lunch at Vivonne was delicious!!! • Twomysteries 0 contributions 1.0 of 5 bubbles A very poorly handled ferry transport malfunction We came to catch our booked 2.30 ferry service. We heard it was cancelled. We were not able to leave until 12.30. In the whole 10 hours there were no announcements by the company to explain what had happened and what would happen. The company did not offer any refreshments. The 4.30 service left as scheduled. Staff told us it was a management decision. We were told by another passenger that breakdowns are not uncommon. Of course we got no official advice about any of this. We understand that transport breakdowns happen. It was disturbing that the situation was so very poorly handled. There's no alternative service . Read more Written 21 March 2024
  • MCC3303 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Easy and streamlined booking, boarding and crossing. Best to book online to ensure a spot on boat the especially in busy periods. Easy to book online. Check in very simple. Driver stays with the car and passenger/s walk on. The boat was very clean. Staff friendly and welcoming. Small canteen with limited food options and drinks. Coffee available. But plenty to chose from for a quick snack for the hour trip. Some food and drink options at the terminals too. Toilets at terminals if required. The air conditioning was a little cold. But I guess this keeps passengers from feeling sick. The crossing was gentle and not rough. But that doesn't say it could be rough. On the way back we listened to a lovely staff member - Cherelyn (I think that was her name) welcoming everyone at the canteen whether she knew them or not. She was very engaging and entertaining with her chatter. Cherelyn was also saying goodbye to everyone when disembarking. What a treasure you have there. She must love her job and was very caring. The boats ran on time. Read more Written 20 March 2024
  • chelsb319 0 contributions 1.0 of 5 bubbles Horrible company Horrible service, our ferry was cancelled and we were encouraged to wait all day in the standby line and got nowhere! They also knew our ferry was broken 24 hours in advance but didn’t tell us till a few hours before. Then they put us on another ferry in the middle of the night. We then received another call from the company asking us for more money for our tickets as the boat they had bumped us to was a “more expensive boat”. We refused, and it was waived, but they acted like they were doing us a favour. I can tell you the boat was also filthy. We arrived home at 3am and back at work at 8am. This company has a monopoly with transport to KI, and when they have issues this leaves people stranded. When competitors try to open up Sealink drops their prices till the competition goes broke and as soon as they have the monopoly again hitch the prices. Should be illegal!!!! They also offer no accomodation compensation if they leave you stranded on the island. This happened to some friends and they got no help! Their phone lines also shut off at 5pm when they had people stranded on the island. Photo of everyone stranded in the middle of the night. No where was open, if we wanted food or water we had to pay their overpriced canteen shop. Could have at least handed out water to the people they left stranded. Photo of everyone stranded. • glenysc 0 contributions 1.0 of 5 bubbles Kangaroo island ferry saga We booked the Sealink ferry well in advance to visit Kangaroo Island. On arrival at the appointed time we were advised that our 1pm ferry had been cancelled and we were rebooked on the 9pm ferry!!! Stuck in a sea of vehicles we could do nothing but wait. The 9pm ferry left at 10.15pm and we were then left driving on unfamiliar roads dodging kangaroos in pitch darkness. Arrived at our accommodation absolutely shattered at 1am the following day. Listening to the locals, we could well face the same saga on our return voyage. Meanwhile the Sealink website states ‘Our ferry services are currently operating as scheduled’. Do reconsider if you plan to take a vehicle over here. Read more Written 17 March 2024

  • MatAndGo 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Long day but really enjoyable! Prepare for an early rise, as the journey to Kangaroo Island begins well before dawn from Adelaide. The drive to Cape Jervis offers a splendid sunrise view before boarding the ferry. Our driver provided engaging commentary and even paused to allow us a glimpse of kangaroos in the fields. The ferry ride was seamless, setting the stage for our exploration of the island at Penneshaw. The highlight at Raptor Domain was the interactive Birds of Prey show, offering an up-close view of these splendid raptors. Lunch at Emu Ridge Eucalyptus Distillery was enjoyable, coupled with an informative tour on eucalyptus oil extraction, unique to the island. At Cliffords Honey Farm, we indulged in delicious ice cream and discovered the exclusive Ligurian honeybee found only here. A brief photo stop at Pennington Bay preceded our visit to False Cape Wine Cellar, where a variety of wines were savoured (though a palate cleanser between tastings would have been ideal). The day concluded with a return ferry to Penneshaw and a bus ride back to Adelaide, arriving around 22:00. It was a fulfilling, albeit lengthy, day, so consider resting well if you plan multiple tours during your stay in Adelaide. Read more Written 15 March 2024

Ferries were very punctual and tickets can be bought either at the Sealink Terminal in Cape Jervis or Penneshaw although its best to book online. • GoPlaces48429168758 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Wilderness and wildlife My wife and I did a self-drive trip to KI from Adelaide, having flown over from Sydney just last week. Booking the return ferry trip and accommodation by phone was effortless. Forward ferry crossing was a bit rough and we were dreading the return journey but it was smooth and we needn't have worried. Ferry staff are very pleasant and efficient, to say nothing of the car loading crew who are extremely dab hands at loading the vehicles. One point however is that the unloading of the ferry is quite messy with drivers going all over the place to pick up their passengers. Should be a rule about this in the interest of safety. Our accommodation at Aurora Ozone Hotel in Kingscote was comfortable with generous meals served in the hotel's restaurant. Be aware that even in this main township there are only a few eating establishments. Emu Bay Lavender Farm cafe is a must for the scones! In three and a half days we experienced the wilderness of the island and the efforts taken to preserve and conserve the wildlife. Seal Bay and the Raptor Domain are definitely highlights. At Raptor Domain it is worth also booking the reptile show in addition to the birds. We visited The Enchanted Fig Tree Restaurant for lunch in perfect weather conditions with a slight breeze and sun shining through the tree’s foliage. What a delight! Only one serious issue is the long drive (70 km) to the Fig from Kingscote, the last part (27 km) very corrugated dirt road. I wouldn’t want to drive out there at night for dinner with roos alive and dead on the road that you don’t see until the last minute. All in all though a good trip. We would like to visit again one day and see some of the things we missed. Read more Written 8 March 2024

The Best 2-Day Kangaroo Island Ferry Tour with Sealink

The Best 2-Day Kangaroo Island Ferry Tour with Sealink

Kangaroo Island is an animal lovers’ paradise, and the prospect of seeing kangaroos, koalas and sea lions were just three reasons we had to visit.

With its abundant wildlife and nature, the unspoilt Kangaroo Island was high on our “best things to do in Australia” list. A day trip to Kangaroo Island was not enough for us, so we researched various tours to Kangaroo Island and booked the 2-day Sealink Kangaroo Island Ferry Tour.

Our Kangaroo Island experience included a coach from our hotel to the ferry port, an outward ferry crossing, a 2-day guided tour of Kangaroo Island and a flight back to Adelaide with a taxi transfer to our hotel. Our Kangaroo Island trip also included hotel accommodation for one night at the Ozone Hotel in Kingscote.

Our First Impressions of the Kangaroo Island Tour

We arrived on Kangaroo Island, or KI, as the locals call it, from Adelaide on day 16 of our epic round-the-world trip .

Kangaroo Island is one of the best places to visit in South Australia, and we were eager to tour Kangaroo Island and discover if the claims that it was like a zoo without fences were true!

Being the third largest island in Australia and one of the best-preserved spots for wildlife encounters, we were excited to see animals in their natural habitat.

Over 65,000 island kangaroos call this their home and outnumber the 4,400 residents.

Our Kangaroo Island tour group was the right mix of ages and nationalities, and our driver, Bruce, had a wealth of bad jokes but a fantastic knowledge of the island.

No sooner had we departed the ferry than we were off to the first location on our tour, encountering our first island kangaroos on the way. The excitement was real!

Best Places To Visit On Kangaroo Island

How marvellous it was that our first stop on Kangaroo Island would be to visit the rare Australian sea lions in their natural habitat at Seal Bay Conservation Park .

As we approached the beach, seeing them basking in the sun and frolicking in the water was great.

The bulls (males) and cows (females) lay on the beach, seemingly exhausted, while the pups enjoyed diving through the waves.

Our Seal Bay guide told us that only 12,000 remain in the wild and are a protected species.

Therefore, access by the public is only with an official guide, and as you are relatively close to these magnificent creatures, you can understand why this rule is in place.

I was standing by the walkway and realised that a pup and her parent were underneath it, sheltering from the heat and to be so close was a fabulous introduction to the beauty of Kangaroo Island.

Seal Bay walk to the beach

Eucalyptus trees are not a common sight in the UK; however, we use the oil to clear head colds and sinuses, so a visit to Emu Ridge Eucalyptus Distillery on the other side of the world was interesting.

We found out that the plant is the staple diet of a koala and how this traditional Kangaroo Island product is made.

We were shown past and present eucalyptus oil processes of distilling and told how the oil was Australia’s first overseas export.

This was a lovely visit to a local business with a cute gift shop and tea rooms, not forgetting the resident emu who watched over the guests.

Vivonne Bay Bistro

Getting to Kangaroo island had been pretty easy, but as we had started the morning at 5 am to catch the coach to the ferry terminal, we were now more than ready to stop for lunch.

The tour included a buffet-style selection in a rustic bistro setting in keeping with its surroundings.

Located in the beautiful Vivonne Bay, we didn’t have a chance to swim in the azure waters that encompass the area, but there are many beautiful beaches on Kangaroo Island to enjoy if you have the time.

Birds of prey who have been abandoned or orphaned are brought and looked after at the Raptor Domain Bird of Prey Centre by Dave Irwin, cousin of the late TV personality Steve Irwin.

They display them at Raptor Domain to bring awareness to the public of their existence and vulnerability.

The 1-hour shows are carefully curated; if the birds don’t want to perform, they are left to their own devices.

As bird lovers, we both enjoyed our interaction with the kookaburras, a species we had only ever read about, as they are indigenous to this part of the world.

A hawk sitting on a gloved hand during a display on Kangaroo Island

I wasn’t sure what to expect at Kangaroo Island Wildlife Park ; after all, I had heard that Kangaroo Island’s animals all led wild, carefree lives, and here we were, visiting an animal park.

Managed by two wildlife conservationists, they bring awareness of the 150 species of native Australian wildlife to a broader audience.

Hands-on experiences are available, and for us, feeding the kangaroos was incredible. They are incredibly gentle as they take the food from your hand, but beware of the slobber from their mouths that they leave behind!

Of course, koala cuddling is one of the most popular activities in the park, but we preferred to watch and admire them rather than hold them.

As a child, I had a toy koala brought back from Australia for me, so I was over the moon to have a photograph taken with the real thing, and the bonus was that it was awake!  A treasured memory that will last a lifetime.

Waking up in Kingscote

We had spent the previous night at the Ozone Hotel in Kingscote. Located opposite the seafront, this basic but comfortable hotel had been the perfect stop for one night.

2 day kangaroo island adventure tour from adelaide

We had taken a walk around the town this morning in search of the post office so we could send our postcards back to the UK and discovered a quaint town with several cafes, coffee shops, and souvenir shops.

The beach area was good for a morning walk, and we saw a sign saying that a resident fed pelicans each evening at dusk. We missed it, but if you are in this area, check it out.

It just so happens that we really love honey, so a visit to Clifford’s Honey Farm was perfect for us. Clifford is the founder, and his children and their partners are now all involved in this cottage industry.

Manuka honey may be famous in New Zealand, but here on Kangaroo Island, the Ligurian bee is the star, and its honey is delicious. Try the honey ice cream, biscuits and beer – you won’t be sorry.

Dominic came away with an action plan to learn how to become an apiarist (beekeeper) and set up in our UK garden. So far, it’s still just an idea!

I must admit that when I came to Australia, I thought I would see koalas hanging off almost every tree, but I couldn’t have been further from the truth.

Koalas are quiet, nocturnal animals who sleep during the day, normally so high in a tree they are hard to see.

They wake for only 4-6 hours in the evening to eat eucalyptus leaves, their only food source.

Spotting one is like winning the lottery, so when we discovered that Hanson Bay Sanctuary was home to wild koalas, we couldn’t wait to explore.

Spotting our first koala in Australia

As we strolled through the self-guided walk, we spotted our first koala. I can’t tell you how exciting it is to see one in the wild in Australia. A dream come true!

To be fair, the staff tie a coloured ribbon around the trees with the koalas in them; after all, they aren’t going anywhere until tea time, the koalas, that is, not the staff!

Feral cats are a big problem for the indigenous animals on Kangaroo Island. Introduced as domestic pets, they have turned wild and consume 1500 kg of native animal meat daily.

Hanson Bay has fenced off 250 acres to protect the native animals enabling them to live without fear of attack and, ultimately, extinction.

During our walk, we spotted around eight koalas: a pademelon, a small marsupial and an echidna, a hedgehog-like creature with a long snout for foraging food.

My first encounter with one of these strange creatures and out here in this sanctuary. Kangaroo Island was undoubtedly holding up to its claims to be a wildlife haven.

Following a 2-course lunch at Hanson Sanctuary, we headed to the westernmost part of Kangaroo Island, known as Flinders Chase National Park , where we would discover the Remarkable Rocks and Admirals Arch.

sign saying flinders chase nation park

So you may wonder just how remarkable a group of rocks could be. We thought the same thing until we saw them.

Boulders of russet-coloured granite hewn into incredible shapes by the force of nature were like an outdoor sculpture exhibition.

Dali-esque in form, the rocks looked like they had been imagined by the artist Dali and made for a film set not hewn from the elements over the last 50 million years.

Cameras were everywhere, and we weren’t about to miss out on taking photographs of these rocks. And I think you would agree; they are remarkable rocks.

Man sitting on top of one of the remarkable rocks on kangaroo island

Walking along the wooden boardwalk and around the cliff face takes you to Admirals Arch’s natural rock.

The arch has taken shape due to weather erosion from the sea over thousands of years, and while it looks delicate, it carries the weight above it quite easily.

Fur seals can be seen here, and we were lucky to spot quite a few.

These small dark brown seals feed at sea and return to land to rest and breed. The gulls also fly in and out of this area, hunting for dinner.

A viewing platform allows you to look through the arch and out to sea, and for me, it was a real privilege to watch animals behaving so naturally in their habitat.

Our Flight Back From Kingscote To Adelaide

We boarded our small propeller plane at Kingscote Airfield for the 15-minute flight back to Adelaide.

The flight itself was an interesting experience as no sooner had we buckled up than we were landing again. This was the quickest flight we had ever encountered, and the views of the island from the air were incredible.

At Adelaide airport, a taxi organised by Sealink was waiting to take us back to our hotel. Kangaroo Island had undoubtedly held up to all its promises and was one of the highlights of our 6-week trip to Australia.

Final Thoughts

Our time on Kangaroo Island had ended, and it had been a fantastic trip.

The Kangaroo Island 2-day tour was everything we hoped it would be and showed us the best of the island. I would recommend KI to anyone as this is one of the best places to visit in South Australia .

If you are short on time, there are one-day tours to Kangaroo Island from Adelaide .

Getting to Kangaroo Island is easy and worth doing.

You will still see some of the main highlights on a one-day Kangaroo island tour, leaving you with good reason to return later!

This blog was written before the bushfires on Kangaroo Island. The island has since started to recover and, in 2023, has been listed by Lonely Planet as #2 of the best places to visit in 2024.

Kangaroo Island is such a beautiful part of the world, we were lucky enough to visit for a couple of weeks, and there is still more to go back and do. Such a shame that the western half of the island has been burnt in the recent Australian bushfires, although I hear that the regeneration of the bush and wildlife is incredible. Hopefully we will get back there later this year.

WhereAngieWanders

I watched the devastation on KI and was in tears. When you have been to a location and then see it being destroyed it is heartbreaking. I would love to return one day but it is so far from me. I hope you get back and can witness its recovery.

So beautiful! I love seeing wildlife in their natural habitats, and you had such great luck with that here.Definitely going to KI if I have the chance to visit the Adelaide area :D

It was a wonderful trip and one I would put on any itinerary if travelling near Adelaide.

Definitely a paradise for animal lovers I would say! The views of Kangaroo Island look so amazing. Would expect nothing less of Australia, a far away destination on my list!

Wednesday 26th of February 2020

It must be a little upsetting for you to wonder how much of the amazing landscape and wildlife you saw during your Australia trip is still there after the fires. It just goes to show how lucky we are to travel and see the world at it's best before disaster strikes. p.s. How come there's some white kangaroos?

Friday 28th of February 2020

The white kangaroos are a colony of albino roos that can only be found on the island.

Jay, I watched the footage on the news and just sat and cried. We saw all the areas we had visited just raised to the ground and several of the cottage industries that exist on the island are now gone. I feel overwhelmed that I got the chance to see and interact with the people and animals on the islands. I pray that in time it will restore itself to its former glory and future visitors will be able to experience the magic that I did.

  • daynab2021 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Fantastic trip and tour I meant to write this review ages ago but completely forgot. It just popped back into my head so thought I would say how amazing my trip was. Our tour guide, Craig was absolutely fantastic. One of the nicest people you could hope to meet and was so helpful. He went above and beyond. We saw so many beautiful places and had so much fun. I was travelling alone and never once felt lonely with such a lovely bunch of people. Would love to do another tour someday! Read more Written 3 January 2021
  • Karen M 0 contributions 1.0 of 5 bubbles No show! So, they took the money from our account for this trip yesterday. We arrive at the collection point at 0715 for a 0730 pick up today. We waited until 0800. No one arrive to collect us and no phone call to say they were running late. We tried to call and just got an automated message. Fed up of waiting and no contact we left and had to find something else to do for the day. To say we are disappointed is an understatement. Shocking customer service. Read more Written 29 August 2020
  • Christelle d 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Groovy Grid Tour I have booked a tour from Adelaïde to Alice Springs in October 2019 and it was one of the most amazing experience of all time. Our tour guide was Altair, he put us all at ease as soon as we entered the tour bus, great sense of humour and awesome cook. Moreover, the group was extremely friendly ! It was my first tour ever and first time sleeping in a swag under the stars. The sceneries were spectacular, expecially Uluru. I really recommend this tour whether you are travelling alone or with someone, you will meet great people, laugh a lot, learn about and discover wonderful places. Read more Written 6 May 2020

Jerry was a wonderful guide, she had a lot of interesting information to share and always made sure there are good vibes going on the bus. Discovering and sharing meals together really brought the group together and there was always enough flexibility to meet everyone’s needs. It was a great experience that left unforgettable memories. • 612guym 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles An unforgettable amazing experience One of the best tours I've ever had in my life. It is an adventurous journey, recommended to any one with good vibes. It starts with an intensive phase, and continues to a more calm one. Every early morning that we woke up was absolutely worth it. Seeing the marvellous views of the outback is almost spiritual, especially when coupled with the mind-boggling explanations of the tour guide about the geological past of the places. I was lucky enough to have Sid as the tour guide of our group. Our tour guide Sid was extremely knowledgeable and fun, always with good vibes - an it is not an easy task. The group was pretty impressed that the entire journey is orchestrated by one person. But this person is well trained to cope with any potential trouble like medical issues or cultural gaps. If you consider to go on this journey - just do it! leave your worries behind and trust Groovy guides to take care of it :) Read more Written 7 March 2020

  • theycallmekayla 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Incredible trip! Niki was the best Absolutely incredible trip through the outback. NIKI was the best tour guide I have ever had. She was GENUINELY friendly, knowledgable, and had a lovely demeanor at all times (even when it was 4am and other guides would’ve been grouchy). We were a big group, so I imagine with all the driving, cooking prep, organizing, and wrangling 17 of us...it was a lot of work for her- but she made it look EASY! She made sure everyone’s needs were catered to. She made sure no one got left behind on the hikes, while also ensuring that no one was being held back from continuing on. I myself am vegan and have never eaten so well on a tour! All tours nowadays SAY that they can accommodate a vegan diet, but they’re not actually accommodating and it is the bare minimum. Not only did I never go hungry, the food was absolutely DELICIOUS! So grateful to Nikki for this, as not having proper meals is what normally discourages me from signing up for tours of this length. I can’t speak for all the guides at groovy grape, but I would take another tour with Niki in a HEARTBEAT! And if you are lucky enough to get her as your guide, you will know why! Also: sleeping under the stars was magical, the swags are super comfy, and the hikes/walks are STUNNING. Big thanks to Niki and groovy grape for this unforgettable trip! I couldn’t recommend it more!! Read more Written 10 February 2020

It managed to tick off every box I had while keeping a relaxed pace. Bronwen is an excellent guide and our whole group had the best experience. We were a group of 8 out of a possible 22 which I do think was a big factor. We were constantly heading in the opposite direction of other tour groups which made for a unique, uncrowded experience. It genuinely felt like a road trip with friends, I would do it again in a heartbeat. Read more Written 6 February 2020
  • JosieH8 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Amazing tour Kings Canyon and Uluru are the stars of this trip and we were fortunate to see the waterfall in Kings Canyon after years without rain. Some more stops near the end of the trip would have been great but I know this was difficult with the time restraints. Sleeping in the swags was fine however it was so hot on the first night I didn’t get much sleep at all, a fan would have been so very welcome that night! Should have reconsidered going to the desert in the summer. Our tour guide Craig was great, so much knowledge and good banter along the way, always upbeat (apart from when someone in the group woke him up at 3:45!) . It was nice that we were a small group so had lots of space on the bus. The food was really good and there was so much! Some more snacks would have been nice may be as sometimes there was a long time between brekkie and lunch. Overall such a good trip with an excellent tour guide. Definitely would book with groovy grape again 👍 Read more Written 5 February 2020
  • andy11202 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Timmi (guide) was fantastic! Just finished our tour yesterday and has to write a review Timmi was our guide for the 3 day trip from Adelaide, and he did not disappoint. He was an awesome host, always polite, professional and positive customer facing. He was incredibly knowledgeable and could answer any question about Australia. His true and charming nature comes through with abundance. He's been an absolutely joy to be around for the last 3 days. Couldn't of asked for a better guide. He's put on some really unbelievable food for our group, I've not eaten as well as that since I was back home in the UK 6 months ago! He caters for all dietary requirements and really know a his way around the kitchen! 😋 Timmi only told me at the end of the trip that this was his first trip he'd done from Adelaide tp Melbourne, but he seemed so reassured and calmed the whole time, he could of been doing it for years for all I'd known. Timmi is an absolute asset to your team! Fantastic tour, food, guide and sights. Thank you Timmi for the unforgettable experience 😊 Read more Written 3 February 2020
  • SelinaThom 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Rock 2 Water .... MUST DO IN AUSTRALIA I have recently been on the 6 day Rock to Water tour and it has been the best tour I have done so far. Departing from Alice Springs we covered the most beautiful sites in the area. Our tour guide Niki was amazing. She's kind, funny, well organized and always happy to give more information about the area, geology and culture. She made sure we all had a great and unforgettable trip. This tour gives you an idea of the real Australia, it's definitely not a luxury tour with hotel stays but a unique tour through the outback with beautiful nights under the stars, amazing views and hikes and stunning sunrises and sunsets. I've never slept in a swag before but it was one of the best things ever as the campsites are quite remote and we were lucky to have clear skies in the first 3 nights. I spent hours stargazing! The tour involves some early mornings (around 4am) but getting up early to see the sunrise and avoiding the summer heat as well as the crowds was absolutely worth it and the hikes will give you some stunning views over rock formations and the endless space of the desert. If you love the outdoors, want to have an adventure and learn more about the outback this tour is perfect. I loved it and would do it again anytime! Read more Written 31 January 2020
  • Karyn W 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Excellent Barossa Valley tour and great value for money! This was a great day out and was excellent value for money. From the start we had very clear and timely emails communicating details for the day including pick up points. They even provided a map in the email showing how we got to our pick up point and the time it would take to walk there. The bus did arrive a little late but that was due to a no show of another passenger before us and them trying to locate the passenger (so was not the companies fault that they were late). The group size was quite good (we should have had 19 on the tour (full bus) if she had turned up). Our fantastic host/driver, Em. She was a very friendly, careful driver who delighted in passing on her knowledge of the Barossa Valley. Although predominantly a young crowd (<35) there were a couple of us young at heart who were made to feel just as welcome. We visited 3 wineries and one tasting room with a couple of sights on the way. The wineries were great, particularly Kies, which is where we had lunch. We were given a menu in advance to choose from (which included a few vegetarian, vegan and GF options). Every dish that came out looked amazing and I can vouch that mine tasted amazing and was very filling. We had a slight issue where the buses engine warning light came on and we had to have a new bus sent out to us, but, Em handled the situation extremely well and no one seemed too upset that we had to stay a bit longer at the beautiful Kies winery, playing lawn games and sipping on some more wine whilst we waited. The only negative of the day was the host at the tasting room who was unnecessarily abrupt to the group, so hopefully GG can give the rooms some feedback so future tours don't have that issue too. I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone looking to tour the Barossa with having the added bonus of it being at a very reasonable price. Read more Written 20 January 2020

2 day kangaroo island adventure tour from adelaide

Take a guided walk on the beach among a colony of rare and wild Australian sea lions with a National Parks Ranger at Seal Bay Conservation Park. Get up close and see these wild creatures frolic and laze about – a truly amazing and unforgettable experience. Then enjoy a delicious two course lunch at Vivonne Bay Bistro, set in a beautiful Australian bushland.

Spend the afternoon in the Flinders Chase National Park, which was devastated in the worst fire to ever hit the island in January 2020. You’ll see that the regeneration of the native bush occurs so quickly after the event and there will be many opportunities to take photos. As you travel through the park, keep an eye out for echidnas, wallabies, reptiles, and koalas. See the rugged coastline from walks around Remarkable Rocks and Admirals Arch. Remarkable Rocks provide great photographic opportunities, and the Admirals Arch boardwalk takes you down a rugged cliff face to reveal the spectacular rock archway, a natural nursery and safe haven for playful Long-nosed Fur Seals.

Your last visit of the day is to the Kangaroo Island Wildlife Park to feed some kangaroos and get up close to the Kangaroo Island Koalas while listening to the Keeper talk about the cuddly mammals. There may be a photo opportunity to hold a koala, if time permits (additional cost). There is also a possibility to see more kangaroos and wallabies on your way to your chosen overnight accommodation.

2 day kangaroo island adventure tour from adelaide

Start your morning with a hearty buffet breakfast before heading off on day 2 of your tour. Your local guide will introduce you to some of the island’s leading creators where you will taste some local Kangaroo Island produce and wildlife.

See the amazing Birds of Prey Display at Raptor Domain. The “In-Flight” Birds of Prey display is the only one in South Australia and is said by many to be the most interactive display of its kind in Australia! On conclusion of the show (if time permits) there may be a photo opportunity to hold an Eagle (additional cost).

Next, travel to Emu Ridge Eucalyptus Distillery (South Australia’s only commercial Eucalyptus Oil Distillery) for a delicious 2-course lunch followed by an introductory talk about the history of the oil distillery and take a guided tour. Kangaroo Island Ciders’ range of Colony Cove products including Apple Sparkler, Draught Cider and Original Cider are available for tasting (additional cost). Finish off with some free time in their souvenir shop where you will find an assortment of Eucalyptus, Tea Tree and Emu Oil products.

Your next stop is Clifford’s Honey Farm, where you’ll enjoy an informative guided tour of the honey room where you will learn about the extraction process, taste a honey soft drink and have the option to sample the Drunken Drone Brewery’s Honey Wheat Ale. In the farm gate shop, you can see a working beehive where you can try to spot the Queen bee. There are different varieties of pure Kangaroo Island Ligurian honey and beauty products to purchase as well as their famous honey ice-cream.

Continue to Pennington Bay, a spectacular beach on the south coast of Kangaroo Island for a photo opportunity. This delightful tour ends with a visit to the new False Cape Wines Cellar Door on the beautiful Dudley Peninsula, where you can soak up the views and enjoy a structured tasting of their premium wines.

Your tours ends at the Penneshaw Hotel where you have ample time for dinner (own expense) before returning to the Penneshaw Ferry Terminal for your return ferry and coach transfer back to Adelaide.

Read more Written March 21, 2024
Read more Written March 20, 2024
Read more Written March 17, 2024
  • menhub 0 contributions 4.0 of 5 bubbles Long day ! This is a very very long day as noted , 16+ hours and most of it is on a bus / ferry. Stops were rushed and very limited . We did see all that was listed and offered but disappointed in time at each location. Can’t be helped to get it all in but an over night on the island would have been better. Read more Written March 15, 2024
  • tmlie 0 contributions 4.0 of 5 bubbles Nice Ride Only ferry connection between the mainland and Kangaroo Island. Ferries were very punctual and tickets can be bought either at the Sealink Terminal in Cape Jervis or Penneshaw although its best to book online. Had the opportunity to ride on both the Sealion 2000 on my way to KI and the Spirit of Kangaroo Island on my return trip. Both trips were lovely and got a great view of the backstairs passage of the Indian Ocean. Read more Written March 10, 2024
Read more Written March 8, 2024

There was no fuss or any sense of unease and the attitude of the team completely removed my feelings of apprehension, making the crossing an easy and enjoyable experience. Thank you! • 1 night dormitory accommodation

From our comfortable minibus you’ll appreciate the fantastic coastal views as we head towards Kangaroo Island along the Fleurieu Peninsula. After driving for 90 minutes, we hop aboard the massive ferry for the 45 minute cruise to the picturesque beachside village of Penneshaw, where we stock up on supplies.

Our first stop is Prospect Hill, where a moderately easy climb offers magnificent 360-degree views of Australia’s third-largest island.

The highlight for many is the guided tour along the pure-white beach of Seal Bay, where you can walk within metres of countless Australian Sea Lions snoozing on the sand or frolicking in the surf.  Or maybe your favourite part will be the Flinders Chase National Park in the far west of the island, which hosts two extraordinary geological features: the Remarkable Rocks and the Admirals Arch, which is also home to a colony of New Zealand Fur Seals.

Our dormitory style accommodation is located within a farm on the edge of the national park. After a huge Aussie barbeque dinner, we sit around the campfire swapping stories, playing didgeridoos and maybe spotting wildlife, such as kangaroos and possums.

After breakfast, our wildlife adventure continues! In the cooler morning weather, we can hike one of the many walking trails on the island where you can watch kangaroos hopping about the bush, koalas nesting in their favourite gum trees and possibly, spot a shy echidna shuffling past. In the summer months, we spend some time swimming and snorkelling in search of the elusive leafy sea dragon which resides off the coast. You can laze about Vivonne Bay, Hanson Bay, Stokes Bay or one of the other superb beach spots with their pristine sand and clear water, or alternatively you can follow the nearby trail along the beach and river to search for more wildlife.

The action packed afternoon starts with sand-boarding down the Little Sahara dunes. We leisurely paddle with kayaks along the Harriet River, but if you do crave something more adventurous, quad-biking along rocky paths through dense scrub is an optional extra.

From Penneshaw, we reluctantly take the ferry to Cape Jervis for the short drive back to Adelaide to arrive at around 8:30pm.
