Tenerife Shore Excursions – 12 Epic Tenerife Shore Trips & Tours on a P&O Canary Islands Cruise 2023

Posted on Last updated: December 22, 2022

Tenerife is one of the most popular cruise destinations in the world, and it’s easy to see why.

With its year round sunshine, beautiful beaches and huge variety of natural landscapes, it’s an island that offers something for everyone.

I love Tenerife because you can tan on a beach in the morning, discover cute historical towns in the afternoon, and watch the Milky Way from the top of a 3,715m high volcano at night.

Few places offer that kind of variety in such small distances!

When P&O Cruises asked me to help them showcase all the amazing shore experiences that you can do on a cruise to Tenerife, I couldn’t have been more thrilled.

12 epic shore excursions in Tenerife

Sea kayaking at los gigantes cliffs.

Tenerife is famous for its water sports scene, but it’s not just about surfing and windsurfing, it’s also an incredible place to go kayaking!

Los Gigantes (or “The Giants”) is a series of cliffs on the coast of Tenerife, which reach up to 400 metres in height. It’s an imposing natural spectacle, and one of the best ways to admire it is by kayak.

We started our kayaking tour from Puerto de Santiago, the town just next to Los Gigantes cliffs. There are a variety of different tours, all of varying lengths, but the one we did was two hours.

I found this was enough to get a feeling for this incredible experience, without it getting too long or getting tired from the kayaking.

In two hours you will do a loop starting from the harbour, and kayaking all the way below these imposing cliffs. Paddling on your kayak, looking up at these 400m high cliffs, sure has a way to make you feel small.

It’s also a great activity for bird spotting fans, as the cliffs are covered with seagull nests! You can see them flying over the cliffs, and hear their cries as they accompany you on your kayaking experience.

Catamaran adventure & Whale watching

Did you know Tenerife was the first Whale Heritage Site in Europe? It goes without saying that it’s an incredible place to go whale and dolphin watching .

Here you’re pretty much guaranteed to see whales at any time of year, which makes it perfect for these catamaran tours.

We did the half day shore experience on board a spacious and luxurious catamaran, setting off from Puerto Colon in Costa Adeje.

The tour started off with a swimming stop at Playa Diego Hernandez, where we were served a tasty paella for lunch.

From there we then started the whale spotting part of the cruise!

The captain sailed us to the protected part of the sea, where he knew it was most likely to spot them, and we soon saw our first pod of pilot whales.

You obviously can’t get too close to the whales so as to not disturb them, but from the comfort of your catamaran you’ll be able to see them swimming past, their fins occasionally poking out of the water.

If you want to see whales and dolphins, this shore experience is the best way to do so, thanks to how likely it is to spot them in Tenerife.

Before boarding we were told there was a 99% to see whales and 60% to see dolphins, which are pretty good odds if you ask me!

Jet Ski safari & beach time

Another fun water-based experience you can do in Tenerife is a jet ski safari. Starting in Puerto Colon, you will board your jet ski and embark on a safari along the coastline of Tenerife.

You will have the option of choosing whether you want a single or double jet ski. This is ideal because, if like me you don’t want to drive the jet ski, you can still experience it as a passenger.

The tour lasts around 2 hours, and the exact distance travelled will depend on the group and how fast the jet skis are being driven.

Regardless of where you get to, you’re guaranteed to enjoy an adrenaline rush and thrilling experience!

You will whizz by the coast of Tenerife, enjoying the view of the mountains and fancy resorts dotted along the coast, and maybe even do a quick swim stop during the tour!

This is a half-day shore experience, so you could pair it with another activity in the south of Tenerife, like whale watching or kayaking.

The Water Kingdom: Siam Park

This one is a bit different as it isn’t exactly an organised tour. Through the new system “Musement”, you can purchase entry tickets to Siam Park, the biggest waterpark in Europe, at a competitive price.

There won’t be an organised shuttle bus so you will have to make your own way there from the Tenerife cruise terminal.

This gives you considerably more freedom than the standard organised tours, as you can go and come back at the time you want, without having to wait for the rest of a group.

Siam Park offers loads of different types of rides, both scary and relaxing, both for adults and for children. It’s a very fun way to spend a day, and especially if you’re on a family cruise, the children are sure to love it!

One thing you can do to make your time at Siam Park more enjoyable is to book the Fast Pass or VIP ticket. Especially if you’re visiting in high season, the queues can be huge!

You’ll spend a bit more money, but if you’re only at Siam Park for a day you don’t want to waste it queueing.

We had the Fast Pass bracelet and never waited more than 5 minutes for a ride. Make sure to go on The Dragon, it’s my favourite as it’s both thrilling and terrifying at the same time!

Mount Teide Half Day & Cable Car

Mount Teide is without a doubt one of the most incredible sights of Tenerife . With its 3,715m, it’s the highest peak in Spain and the second highest volcano in Europe.

Teide National Park stretches for just under 190km squared, and covers a huge variety of landscapes and views.

Driving from the cruise terminal at sea level, all the way up to Mount Teide, watching the landscape change as you drive past is already an amazing start, just wait till you reach the peak!

This shore experience lasts half a day.

They will take you to a number of viewpoints in Teide National Park, where you can enjoy the view over the Mount Teide peak, the sea of clouds and island below, and the unique volcanic landscape of Teide.

If the weather allows it, you will also take the cable car up to the peak of Mount Teide.

Unfortunately we weren’t able to do so as the winds were above 55 km/h, but standing at the top of the highest Spanish peak, enjoying the view over Tenerife, the sea and surrounding islands is a breathtaking experience.

This shore experience is perfect for the nature lovers, who want to be outdoors and enjoy vast and unique landscapes and views.

Stargazing at Mount Teide

Thanks to the Fly Canaries cruises, which will spend a night in the cruise port of Tenerife, you’ll be able to experience Tenerife, and Teide, by night.

Mount Teide is one of the best places to go star gazing in Europe.

Being so far above the cities of the island means that the sky, as seen from Mount Teide, is almost entirely free of light pollution. It’s part of the reason why Teide is home to a number of international telescopes.

From Tenerife you can see 83 of the 88 officially recognised constellations, a fact which enabled the sky of Teide National Park to be recognised as a “Starlight Destination”.

In this shore experience you will have the opportunity to admire the Milky Way, as well as all the stars and galaxies visible from Tenerife.

We had a super knowledgeable and passionate guide, who gave us loads of information on the constellations we were seeing.

You will not only learn about the history and conformation of the night sky and galaxies, but you’ll be able to see them first hand! In my opinion it’s one of the most magical experiences you can have in Tenerife.

Dinner & Show at Hard Rock Cafe

Similarly to the stargazing at Teide, this is a tour that you’ll be able to experience thanks to the overnight stay in Tenerife of the new Fly Canaries cruises.

If you want to see the nightlife of Tenerife and the Golden Mile, there is no better place to do so than Hard Rock Cafe!

Here you will be treated to a delicious meal, the exact menu will change depending on the package you choose, but you can expect tasty burgers and ribs to be on the menu!

During the dinner the show will start, and you’ll get to hear some epic rock music.

The artists playing change all the time, but the music style is usually similar. It’s Hard Rock Cafe after all! This shore experience is available both as an organised tour or through “Musement”.

Personally, I would suggest purchasing it through “Musement” and combining it with another experience in the south of Tenerife, like Siam Park, whale watching or kayaking.

Hard Rock Cafe is located on the south of the island, whilst the cruise terminal is in the north.

Unless you’re a very hardcore rock and Hard Rock Cafe fan, driving an hour there and then another hour back for a dinner show will be a bit much.

If you combine it with another activity in the south then you can optimise the travel time, and turn it into a full Tenerife exploring day!

Wine & Food Canary style

Tenerife isn’t just an island of stunning natural beauty, it’s also rich in culture and history. Part of that history is reflected in Tenerife’s culinary traditions.

If, like me, you love trying local foods when travelling, this half day Wine & Food Canary Style shore experience is perfect for you.

You will visit El Calderito de la Abuela, a local restaurant in the north of the island, run by two brothers.

Here you will first see a fun cooking show, where brothers Mario and Fabian will show you how to make traditional Canarian “mojo verde” sauce.

During the cooking show they will also tell you about the history of their restaurant, their family and the cuisine they serve. After the show, it’s time to actually try their delicious food!

The restaurant itself is in a very scenic spot, with huge windows overlooking the coastline of Tenerife.

You can sit back, relax, enjoy the view and taste a variety of Canarian delicacies, the perfect way to learn more about the traditions of this beautiful island!

After lunch you will be taken to Bodegas Monje, a local family winery for the wine tasting part of the experience.

They will first give you a tour of the winery, showing you the vineyard, the wine barrels and various machines involved in the wine making process.

You’ll then relax sit on their lovely outdoor terrace, enjoying the view over the vineyards and sea, while tasting delicious local wine and some typical Canadian nibbles like almogrote cheese.

Abaco Mansion lunch & San Pedro Walk

This is another great shore experience, which combines food, history and even nature.

This tour starts at a traditional Canarian mansion, where you will be served a delicious local lunch, followed by a lovely coastal walk at one of the most scenic trails of the island.

Abaco Mansion isn’t only where you will be eating, it’s also a historical mansion and you will be taken on a tour of the mansion before lunch.

The lady that gave us a tour of the mansion is called Rebecca, and she was super passionate about the work they do there.

The mansion is perfectly maintained in the local Canarian style, with wooden beams and the vintage architecture style.

You will learn about the history of the mansion, its owner, the tours and events they carry out there and the history of Canarian architecture more widely.

After lunch you will do the beautiful San Pedro Walk, also known as Rambla de Castro. This is a linear coastal trail, which is often ranked amongst the best hikes in Tenerife , thanks to its beautiful coastal views.

As you walk in the shade of tall palm trees you can enjoy views over the sea on one side, and lush green vegetation on the other.

It’s the perfect walk to get some movement in after the delicious lunch at Abaco Mansion!

Beach yoga and mojitos

If you’re not too fussed about spending hours sightseeing around Tenerife, but still want to do something unique on the island, then this beach yoga and mojitos experience is perfect for you!

You will be taken to Playa de las Teresitas, one of the most beautiful beaches in Tenerife.

Stretching for 1.5km, this incredible artificial beach is is characterised by its golden sand, which was imported from the Sahara Desert, its turquoise water and the towering cliffs that surround it.

It’s a beautiful beach to just sit and relax, but when you add to it a fun activity like yoga, it becomes the perfect setting!

You will spend around one hour moving from position to position through your yoga flow, and then reward yourself with some delicious mojitos.

We all know that mojitos taste better on the beach right?!

UNESCO Forest Walk & La Laguna World Heritage

This shore experience is perfect if you don’t fancy spending hours driving around the island, while still seeing some beautiful sights.

Located in the north of Tenerife, close to the cruise terminal, you’ll find the gorgeous town of San Cristobal de La Laguna, and the unique Anaga Rural Park.

San Cristobal de La Laguna, colloquially shortened to just La Laguna, is a UNESCO world heritage site, and was the capital of Tenerife until the 18th Century.

In La Laguna you will find cute cobbled streets lined with colourful houses, characterised by their unique colonial architecture.

Many of the museums and historical houses also still display the unique Canadian style patios, with wooden columns and beams.

It’s a lovely town to discover, which I highly recommend adding to every Tenerife itinerary .

After La Laguna you will visit Anaga Rural Park, my favourite part of the island. Anaga is a place of stunning natural beauty, with rolling green hills, fairy-like forests and jagged mountain tops.

You will start at the beautiful Mirador Cruz del Carmen, and then go for a walk in Anaga forest.

From the viewpoint you will enjoy a stunning view over the surrounding green countryside, with the peak of Mount Teide towering above it.

If you’re visiting Tenerife in winter , then you might even be lucky enough to see Mount Teide with snow, adding more contrast to the green rolling hills below!

The walking part of the tour will take you through some of the iconic spots of Anaga. Walking through the forest of Anaga feels like walking through an enchanted forest, with the occasional unexpected viewpoint over the sea.

Gardens & Puerto de la Cruz

This shore experience combines a bit of city sightseeing with nature sights. You will be taken to Puerto de la Cruz, one of the biggest cities on the island, and to its unique botanical garden.

Located in the north of the island, Puerto de la Cruz is one of the main hubs of Tenerife, without being overly touristy. Here you will have a more local experience, discovering the city life of Puerto de la Cruz.

The botanical garden of Puerto de la Cruz is a lovely place to explore, filled with exotic plants waiting to be discovered. It’s also home to the largest orchard in Tenerife!

Shore Excursions

P&O Cruises visits more than 90 countries each year, giving its passengers a distinct advantage. A dazzling array of destinations, each with their own sights, sounds and smells -- of fragrant tropical flowers, exotic Eastern spices or fresh sea air -- can be explored through P&O Cruises' impressive range of shore excursions.

More than 1,200 tours are launched from P&O Cruises ships each year, seeking out historical, artistic and adventurous pursuits in far-flung destinations throughout the world. Snorkeling, sport fishing, French cooking classes and Turkish bath treatments are just a few of the activities available.

P&O Cruises offer shore excursions under the following headings:

• Best Sellers • Once in a Lifetime • Something Different • Especially for Families • Beach and Water Activities • Simply Sights and Scenery • Exploring Independently

The right shore excursion can connect the visitor and the destination to create an unforgettable and personal experience. If you would rather do your own thing, in many ports we can simply drop you off in a safe place and pick you up later with a shuttle service.

Upon booking a P&O Cruise, you will be provided a link to the P&O Cruises Web site where you can review and book shore excursions.

Shore excursions: What new cruisers need to know

Erica Silverstein

The fun of a cruise is equal parts what you do on board and what you do on shore. Cruise lines offer a full schedule of shore excursions to help you make the most of your time in port. However, the process of choosing and booking tours can be overwhelming for new cruisers.

I've taken shore excursions around the world, both ship-run and independent, and spent many days in port wandering on my own. Allow me to take you through the basics of cruise shore excursions, so you can learn to have the most fun no matter what your budget is.

For cruise news, reviews and tips, sign up for TPG's cruise newsletter .

What is a cruise shore excursion?

A shore excursion is a group tour or activity aimed at cruise travelers who can only spend a limited time in each port they're visiting on their itinerary.

A shore excursion could be a sightseeing bus tour, a guided visit to a museum or historic site, an athletic activity (like a hike, bike ride or snorkel outing), a day at the beach or a cooking or dance class. Shore excursions typically highlight the marquee attractions or culture of the destination you're visiting. Sometimes an excursion will take you to sites within walking distance of your cruise; on other occasions, they might take you on a day trip to a nearby city.

Some shore excursions are targeted at families or can easily accommodate children. Some can accommodate passengers with mobility issues or other disabilities . Others may require a minimum level of fitness and are not suitable for everyone.

Shore excursions may be sold by your cruise line and organized with a partner provider. They can also be purchased through independent operators or third-party tour sellers.

Do you have to buy shore excursions on a cruise?

p&o shore excursions

In most cases, you don't need to book a shore excursion to explore a port of call. You can simply walk off the ship and stroll into town or catch a cab to take you wherever you want to go.

However, in some destinations, a shore excursion, or independently operated guided tour, is highly encouraged. This could be in places where it's difficult to navigate as a foreigner who can't speak the language or understand street signs or where the tourism infrastructure is not yet fully developed.

Can I book a shore excursion on my own instead of through my cruise line?

Yes. I use many factors to decide whether to take a ship's tour, book an independent excursion or explore on my own in port. However, if you're a novice traveler, you might want to book ship tours exclusively because they're the simplest, easiest and most convenient options.

The benefits to a cruise line's shore excursions are that they depart from and return to the ship; you don't need to figure out where to meet a guide in a port you've never visited. Better still, should an unexpected problem (traffic, a medical emergency) occur during your outing, the ship will not leave port until all of its own tours have returned.

Independent tours, on the other hand, can be cheaper than cruise ship tours. I once saved hundreds of dollars organizing a group to go on an overnight, independently operated excursion to see Cairo and the Pyramids of Giza from Port Said, Egypt; the ship's tours were incredibly marked up. Also, if you have a particular interest, the ship might not offer a tour for the activity or attraction you're excited about.

Related: Ship-sponsored vs. independent shore excursions on cruises: Which should you book?

Some third-party operators will customize a tour for you or your group, so you can spend more time at the places you most want to see. Sometimes these tour groups are also smaller than the large cruise ship tours — which can carry 30 to 60 people in a bus — so you will spend less time waiting for everyone.

Finally, some ports are simply wonderful to walk around, popping into shops and local restaurants or bars, going where you will. I've skipped tours in places like Key West, Florida; Tallinn, Estonia; Monaco; Nassau, Bahamas; Skagway, Alaska; Geiranger, Norway; and San Juan, Puerto Rico. A map and a guidebook got me where I wanted to go.

How much are shore excursions on a cruise?

p&o shore excursions

Cruise shore excursion prices vary widely depending on the cost of living in the cruise destination, what type of activity is involved and whether it's a full- or half-day tour. Young children often pay a reduced rate for tours.

Looking at Princess Cruises ' shore excursions in Grand Cayman, a 2.5-hour stingray swim costs $70 per person, a 5-hour scenic island drive costs $100, and a 4-hour, two-tank scuba dive costs $180. In Juneau, Alaska, a 3-hour tour to the Mendenhall Glacier visitor center costs $50 per person. A 3-hour gold panning activity and salmon bake costs $125, while a 2.25-hour tour to take a helicopter ride to the top of the glacier, where you can walk around on the ice for half an hour, costs $420.

Some cruise lines, such as Viking and Regent Seven Seas Cruises , include the cost of basic shore excursions in their cruise fares. If you don't care to do any specialty tours, you might be able to get all your port activities for free. Other lines, such as Norwegian Cruise Line , offer discounted tours or shore excursion credit as booking promotions .

What's the best way to book shore excursions?

If you plan to book shore excursions through your cruise line, you have a couple of options of how to book them.

You can book your tours online in advance, or have your travel agent do it for you. This is the best route if there's a ship's tour you absolutely want to take and you don't want to risk its selling out. Book your tours the minute they open for reservations. When my parents traveled on a luxury Regent Seven Seas cruise, they said that waiting until the next morning to book tours meant that some of their choices were sold out.

The downside to booking tours in advance is that some cruise lines require that you pay for the tours in full, rather than putting them on your final cruise bill. It means you're out the money in advance and it can be difficult to use onboard credit to cover the cost of excursions booked online.

Related: Avoid these mistakes when booking cruise shore excursions

Alternatively, you can wait until you're on the ship and book your excursion in person at the shore excursions desk. You'll be able to ask the staff questions about the tours, and the charges will be added to your final cruise bill. However, you do run the risk that a popular tour might be sold out by the time you're ready to book.

The same is true with independent tours. Most people organize these ahead of time through a tour operator or travel agent. However, in popular cruise ports, there are often representatives waiting at the port or at a tourist office who can book you on same-day tours if space is available.

Is it cheaper to book shore excursions on the ship?

No. Most cruise lines either charge the same prices for shore excursions booked online and on board or offer a discount for tours purchased in advance. For example, Royal Caribbean often advertises up to 30% off select tours reserved ahead of the sailing.

Do I need to tip on shore excursions?

Whether you're on a cruise line sponsored or independent shore excursion, a best practice is to tip your tour guides at the end of the tour. Exceptions are if tips are included in the price or if you're visiting a country with a non-tipping culture, where offering cash would be awkward.

Related: Ultimate guide to tipping on cruise ships

Tipping is a personal matter, and there are no hard and fast rules. I canvassed TPG's cruise team and we agreed that we give roughly $5 to $10 per person for half-day tours and $10 to $20 per person for full-day excursions, adjusted for service and quality. Tip non-guide drivers roughly $2 per person in your party.

You'll likely want to tip more for customized, private tours — consider 5 to 20% of the cost of the tour.

How do I get the most from my cruise shore excursion?

p&o shore excursions

The key to getting the most from your cruise shore excursion is to know what you want and make sure the tour description matches your expectations. I find that the more I cruise, the less I take ship-sponsored shore excursions because they don't offer exactly what I want.

For example, if you're considering a bus tour, make sure you understand how much time will be spent sitting on the bus and how much time will be at the destination or attraction, whether you will be looking at or going inside key attractions and whether there's free time to explore. If it's an activity, like snorkeling or a helicopter tour, read up on how much time is spent in transit and prep and how much time you will spend actually doing the activity.

Be sure to note the fitness level required and don't try to take on more than you're able to do. If you struggle with mobility, check to see if there's a lot of walking on uneven ground like cobblestones.

Related: 11 cruise ship excursions to avoid

If the tour takes place over lunchtime, check to see if a meal is included or if you have time to pick up something to eat.

Personally, I find that organized tours are best when the excursion is an activity I can't do on my own (such as kayaking, zip lining or a winery tour); when long distances are involved where I don't want to bother with public transportation or renting a car on a one-day visit; or when the culture is foreign enough that independent exploration would be tricky. Sometimes you also need an expert guide, such as in Pompeii, to know what you're seeing.

Bottom line

Shore excursions are a great way to make the most of your time in port, but you might get the most value out of a mix of guided tours and independent exploration. Choose the best option based on your budget and interests, and remember to look at both ship-sponsored and independent tour and activity options. And if you feel like staying on board one day while your ship is docked in a port that doesn't interest you, that's okay, too.

14 Epic Shore Excursions in Tenerife You Can’t Miss (P&O Cruises 2024)

Sharing is caring!

There are a wide range of shore excursions available in the port of Tenerife, that show off the Spanish culture , gastronomy , and the volcanic landscapes that make up this beautiful island.

These cruise experiences are available on the new Fly-Canaries cruises starting in October 2022, the No-Fly cruises from Southampton and the maiden cruise of the new Arvia ship in December 2022.

Before deciding which shore experiences to do, make sure you check out this post on what you need to know before booking Tenerife cruise excursions with P&O Cruises .

Now onto a lowdown of the best P&O Cruises shore experiences in Tenerife that I’ve experienced first hand.

Disclaimer: My trip was sponsored by P&O Cruises . As always, all words and opinions are my own.

Best Tenerife Cruise Excursions

The cruise excursions can be split by type of traveller so it’s easy to find something that suits your tastes.

For Adventurers

Tenerife is known for its dramatic landscapes and miles of coastline, which provide a playground for nature lovers.

Explore Mount Teide National Park

First up is my favourite excursion!

Tenerife is home to Spain’s highest point, Mount Teide, standing at 3715m. It is an active volcano , and the surrounding National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage site .

This half day shore excursion includes stops at several viewpoints above the clouds that really let you experience the Mars-like landscapes of this volcano, alongside the 8 minute cable car ride to the peak .

Note: If there are high winds (over 55 km per hour) the cable car will close, but the viewpoints along the way are incredible on their own so I would still suggest booking it.

For me it was the highlight of my 4 days in Tenerife.

Mount Teide reminded me of the week I spent in Atacama desert in Chile , the otherworldly landscapes are so similar, but Tenerife is so much closer to home and I can see myself visiting again, to do the overnight hike to the peak.

Masca Valley, Quad Biking & Rustic Lunch

Perfect for adrenaline seekers , this three part excursion includes a scenic drive up to the Masca Valley viewpoint, a quad biking tour and a traditional lunch.

We only experienced the first part of this tour but the viewpoint (over a thousand metres high) was absolutely stunning, and a great place to capture just how beautiful the island is.

From the top you’ll be surrounded by cacti and see the winding roads that help you navigate this part of the island.

It is one of the best photo spots on the island so make sure your phone and camera battery is charged!

Stargazing at Mount Teide

With the new Fly-Canaries cruises , you’ll be able to spend a night docked in Tenerife meaning you can experience stargazing as an evening shore excursion.

You may not know this but Tenerife is the best place to stargaze in Europe due to it’s low light pollution and high altitude.

It is one of the reasons why Mount Teide is home to a number of international telescopes.

In this unmissable tour, you’ll have an expert guide share their knowledge of astronomy , and you’ll be able to observe the Milky Way , stars and the constellations in all their glory.

We even got lucky enough to see the Hubble Space Telescope whizz past us in the sky!

This cruise excursion is really special and reminded me of the Northern Lights tour I did with P&O Cruises in Norway a few years back.

Remember to dress up warm and bring gloves , the mountain does get cold at night and you’ll be outside for the duration of this magical experience.

For Culture Vultures

Tenerife has so much history , from colonial cities to pristine gardens, the cultural shore excursions cover so much.

Wind Cave & Garachico Village

This interesting excursion visits the wind cave (Cueva del Viento), the largest volcanic tube in the EU.

It is 18km long, and to explore the cave you must have suitable footwear and long trousers.

After the wind cave, you’ll head over to Garachico Village , in the northwest of Tenerife.

This tiny colonial village dates back to the 15th Century is one of the Canary Island’s oldest villages, and is surrounded by natural pools which are a tourist favourite!

The village itself is characterised by cobbled streets , colourful buildings and a quaint plaza, and you can see why it used to be a popular trading port between Europe and the Americas.

UNESCO Forest Walk & La Laguna World Heritage

This half day heritage tour visits the beautiful and UNESCO World Heritage site of San Cristobal de La Laguna.

This charming city located in the north of the island (close to the cruise terminal) was once the capital of the island.

There are plenty of pretty buildings and colonial architecture and interestingly the layout of the city was used a blueprint for a number of South American cities , that’s why it felt so familiar to me!

Make sure you visit the cathedral and step inside the buildings to explore the courtyards – they will surprise you!

After visiting La Laguna, you’ll head to Anaga Rural Park , where you can experience the Mirador Cruz del Carmen viewpoint and a walk through the laurel forests (these were a favourite of mine in Madeira! ).

Gardens & Puerto De la Cruz

This shore experience visits the city of Puerto de la Cruz in the north of the island, followed by a visit to the unique botanical gardens of Sitio Litre.

It is the oldest garden in Tenerife , over 220 years, and has plenty of exotic plants from Africa and the Americas, including the largest collection of orchids on the island and the oldest dragon tree in Puerto de la Cruz.

There have been many famous visitors in the past including Agatha Christie, the Beatles, and William Wilde, and there is a cute cafe which is the perfect place to relax and take in the stunning scenery.

For Foodies

There are several food and drink shore experiences with P&O cruises , including wine tasting at Monje, lunch at Abaco Mansion, dinner at Hard Rock Cafe, fresh mojitos on the beach and a cooking demo with the Torres brothers.

Wine & Food Canary Style

Tenerife’s culinary traditions are best experienced with this half day Wine & Food Canary Style tour.

Firstly you will visit El Calderito de la Abuela , a local restaurant in the north of the island, run by two brothers, Mario and Fabian.

Here you will first experience an interactive cooking show, where you will see the brothers make a traditional Canarian “mojo verde” sauce .

At the same time you will learn about the history of the cuisine and the story of their family.

I was especially pleased to see most of the ingredients for their dishes were grown locally in the garden right next to the restaurant, so the food was as fresh as possible!

The restaurant itself, has stunning views of the Tenerife coastline , and after the demo you will get to enjoy the spoils as well as a traditional Canary Island lunch, full of local favourites.

After lunch you’ll head over to Bodegas Monje , a local family winery, where you will tour the wine cellar before tasting a few of their most popular wines on the outdoor terrace overlooking the vineyard and sea.

Beach Yoga & Mojitos at Las Teresitas Beach

This fun excursion is located on Playa de las Teresitas, an incredible 1.5km long crescent-shaped beach with golden coloured sand (due to it being imported from the Sahara desert !).

It is one of the most beautiful beaches in Tenerife and a firm favourite with visitors who want to relax and take in some sun in a wonderful setting.

The excursion starts with beach yoga under the palm trees (yoga is one of my favourite ways to exercise on a cruise, not too impactful but a great way to get moving) before enjoying a tasty mojito at a local beach bar , and soaking up those holiday vibes.

Abaco Mansion Lunch & San Pedro Walk

This historic shore excursion lets you take a stroll back in time at Abaco Mansion before exploring San Pedro.

Firstly you will visit Abaco Mansion , an 18th century building in Puerto de la Cruz that is now a museum and event space .

You’ll get the chance to learn about the history of the building whilst touring the property and grounds (with a Sangria in hand).

After the tour, enjoy a local lunch on the deck infront of the pool.

After the meal, you will burn off some calories on the San Pedro walk (also known as Rambla de Castro ).

It is a relatively easy hike and has incredible coastal views along the whole way.

Hard Rock Café Dinner & Show

This is a new offering for the Fly-Canaries cruises that are docking in Tenerife, meaning you have an evening on the island and can enjoy a night out.

Situated on the Golden Mile in the south of the island is Hard Rock Cafe Tenerife.

There is no official cruise shore excursion to this venue but dinner and a show can be booked via Musement , click here to read more about how Musement works.

This is a popular spot for tourists so booking in advance is required , but you’ll be treated to delicious American classics like burgers, ribs, fries and shakes, as well as a live rock show.

For Water Lovers

There are four fabulous excursions that are perfect for those who love the water , from sea kayaking to whale and dolphin watching on a catamaran, to whizzing around on a Jet ski and even getting drenched at the worlds best water park!

Sea Kayaking at Los Gigantes Cliffs

This was the first half day excursion we did in Tenerife, and it was a great way to explore these 600m high cliffs.

We drove to Puerto de Santiago and then paired up at the harbour before spending two hours kayaking up to the rugged cliffs and back.

It was not as strenuous as that sounds, it was actually really good fun, and we had plenty of photo stops and breaks, so we weren’t tired at the end of it, but we did work up an appetite!

We had a guide to show us where the best spots were and we even got to spot some rocks covered in crabs!

If you want to make the most of it, I would suggest bringing sunglasses, water shoes , a waterproof dry bag , waterproof phone case or a Go Pro , so you can capture the experience.

Catamaran Adventure & Whale Watching

The best way to witness the beautiful coastline of Tenerife is from the water.

This half day trip from Puerto Colon Harbour allows you to spend several hours with the wind in your hair, on this luxury catamaran.

We had time to lounge around on the comfy day beds , swim in the sea , enjoy a paella lunch and even spot some whales!

Whale watching is popular all year round in Tenerife as it is possible to see over 20 different whale species across the seasons.

We visited in June and were lucky to see a pod of short finned pilot whales.

Jet Ski Safari and Beach Time

One of the best adrenaline rushes you can have in Tenerife is by jumping on a jet ski!

Having only ever jet skiied once (as a passenger) in Thailand , back in 2008, this was a half day excursion I was both excited and slightly nervous about!

After a safety briefing and an explanation of the controls, we had a choice single or double jetski.

Pairing up felt like the right choice this time round, and my buddy and I, took it in turns to take control and ride the jet ski for a total of two hours , and we both really enjoyed it, by the end we had the confidence to ride alone, so watch this space for next time!

After the jet ski safari, you can relax on the beach and take in the sun.

Siam Park Water Kingdom

Dubbed one of the best water parks in the world , Siam Park is the largest in Europe.

With a Thai theme, there are 4 acres of rides, slides and lazy rivers to enjoy!

This is a great choice for families but we visited as a group of adults and absolutely loved it!

Tickets to Siam Park can be booked via Musement , so you don’t have a certain pickup or drop off time and you can choose how long to spend at the park.

Though I would suggest getting their early so you have the entire day and aren’t rushing to fit in as many rides as possible.

I would also suggest getting the fast pass tickets , as the queue jumps meant we didn’t have to wait more than 5 minutes for a ride.

I would also suggest going in groups of even numbers .

We were a group of 3 and sometimes had to split up, this wasn’t a big issue but groups of 2 or 4 will find it easier.

There are tonnes of rides but my favourites were the adrenaline rides namely, The Dragon, Singha, Mekong Rapids, Kinnaree, Patong Rapids, and the Vulcano.

After these we had lunch at the park and then joined the lazy Mai Thai river to digest our food.

My top tip for this ride is to make sure you choose the route that goes through the shark tank , it is definitely worth the short wait!

If you want to just relax there are plenty of sun loungers found throughout the water park.

For this day trip make sure you bring a towel, change of clothes, and water shoes !

P&O Arvia Caribbean Cruise Excursion – Escape to Saona Island, Dominican Republic

For our second shore excursion on our P&O Arvia Caribbean cruise, we’d picked to do the P&O excursion to Saona Island in the Dominican Republic.

It promised a full day with all the things we’d hoped for on a day trip in the Caribbean – boat rides, snorkelling, all food and drink catered and remote island beaches – and we weren’t disappointed.

p&o shore excursions

We left the ship at 8.15am and made our way to the clearly sign-posted excursion meeting point.

While we do a mixture of independent excursions and P&O’s own ‘official’ excursions on our cruises, one big benefit of the P&O ones is that it’s very clear and simple where you need to go and what you need to do.

You may pay a premium when you book an excursion with P&O, but there’s no stress or uncertainty of having to find your own way around – you simply step off the ship, follow the shore excursion signs and step straight onto a bus without any hassle at all.

The bus soon set off for Bayahibe, the departure point for the speedboat leg of the tour over to Saona Island.

The tour guide ‘Rocky’ gave an entertaining commentary over the bus tannoy during the drive, which was only about 15-minutes or so, at which point we reached a beach where we got off and boarded a speedboat.

There were just under 60 people on our excursion (which is an extremely popular one with P&O and was booked up almost immediately on being released).

We all fitted comfortably on the boat, which made its way out to sea as the morning sun heated up, with a welcome sea breeze from the speeding boat.

We followed the Dominican Republic coastline, over crystal clear blue water, until we reached the first stop on the excursion – a ‘sandbank’ that sits between the Dominican Republic coast and the island of Saona.

p&o shore excursions

At this point, the water is shallow (about waist deep) and you can get out of the boat and wade / swim around in the perfectly clear water, whilst Rocky the tour guide and the boat’s crew dished out rum and other drinks (all included in the price) from a floating ‘bar’ in the sea.

If you have snorkels / masks, it’s worth bringing them (none are supplied on the excursion) as there are tropical fish, starfish and even a few stingrays (small, friendly and harmless) swimming around the boat at the sandbank.

One of the boat’s crew was a professional photographer and he was wading around, photographing people with the stunning Caribbean backdrop, for photos which you could buy from him if you wanted to do so (they were decent photos so we did buy some as they made our own amateur holiday photos look pretty lame in comparison).

p&o shore excursions

After about half an hour at the sandbank, we were back on board the boat and headed for the main destination of the excursion – Saona Island.

The boat pulled up at a sandy beach, where we climbed out and were lead through a small patch of “jungle” to the main beach area on Saona.

This was our first taste of the Caribbean as you imagine it to be. The pure white sand, the clear turquoise water, the coconut trees leaning over with a bright blue sky behind.

p&o shore excursions

It was the kind of place we’d dreamed of coming to when we booked the cruise – and with only a few other excursions here at the same time as us, the beach was quiet enough to find plenty of secluded places to sit in the sun and swim in the warm sea.

p&o shore excursions

The photographer was back and taking pictures if you wanted them – and a very decent lunch was being prepared that was all included in the cost, along with unlimited drinks – rum, beer, coffee and soft drinks.

p&o shore excursions

We helped ourselves to lunch from the buffet at one of the beach bars – chicken, pork chops, rice, spaghetti, salad – and much more to choose from, then spent the rest of the time relaxing on loungers (all provided as part of the excursion) under the coconut trees.

We had about 3-hours enjoying the peace and beauty of Saona Island before we were rounded up to head back to the boat for the final leg of the excursion.

p&o shore excursions

We got back on the speedboat, which took us just offshore where a catamaran was anchored – and climbed from the speedboat onto the catamaran, which set sail back to the Dominican Republic mainland on a journey of about an hour and a half or so.

This was a more relaxed journey – with the crew dishing out plenty of rum to anyone who wanted it, music playing over the speakers and the crew encouraging passengers to get up and dance with them.

We sat looking out over the Caribbean Sea as the catamaran sailed leisurely along, watching flying fish leaping out of the sea and flying through the air next to the boat.

p&o shore excursions

Eventually arriving back at Bayahibe, we climbed onto another speedboat for the short trip (2-minutes or so) back to shore, where the bus was waiting to take us back to Arvia at the La Romana cruise terminal.

The final ‘all aboard’ time on Arvia was 5.30pm and we arrived back at 5.10pm, which was a bit close for comfort for our liking.

However, as it was the P&O official excursion to Saona Island, if you do happen to be late back to the ship, the ship is guaranteed to wait for you before leaving – unlike with an independent excursion, where there’s a risk you could be left behind if you miss departure time.

Because we like to avoid the risk of that ever happening, we always leave a good few hours’ margin for error when we’re doing our own thing, so we wouldn’t have wanted to do the Saona Beach Escape excursion independently, if arrival back to the ship was so close to the departure deadline.

p&o shore excursions

This excursion was a brilliant day. We felt like we’d got to experience the real Caribbean as you imagine it to be, with the stunning natural beauty of the islands, hot, sunny weather – and ample amounts of food and drink all thrown in too.

Really well worth spending the money on and it gave us a day we’ll always remember. We definitely highly recommend it.

Volcanoes, submarines & cheese making: Best cruise excursions in the Canary Islands

Canary Islands excursions are a brilliant way to explore ashore in safety with the wisdom of experts – and P&O Cruises has a super array of shore excursions to choose from.

P&O Cruises excursions come with a wealth of benefits; they offer complete peace of mind they cater for everyone, they work with pros, booking is simple and prices are transparent (no nasty shocks at the end!).

Trips ashore are offered with all of P&O Cruises’ destinations but there’s no denying the popularity of the Canary Islands among veteran and first-time cruisers. The archipelago off Africa offers fantastic winter sun as well as brilliant beaches, delicious cuisine and excellent opportunities for adventure *packs walking boots*.

P&O Cruises to the Canary Islands all stop at multiple islands so you can enjoy everything these hotspots have to offer, whether that’s exploring fascinating flora and fauna, enjoying a spot of sightseeing or (bear with us) cheese making.

To make life easier for you when planning your Canaries break, we’ve rounded up some of the best P&O Cruises excursions in the Canary Islands for Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, Tenerife and La Palma. All you need to do is brush up on your Spanish. Hola!

gran canaria canary islands

P&O Cruises excursions: Best for…Nature

In Lanzarote, a must-see sight on your Canary Islands excursions is the Fire Mountains at Timanfaya National Park. Like something out of Lord of the Rings, these peaks were created during a series of volcanic eruptions between 1730 and 1736, irrevocably changing Lanzarote’s landscape and covering almost a quarter of the island in thick lava and ash.

Today you can enjoy the incredible landscape and witness the volcanic activity first-hand, although you’d be forgiven for thinking you’d accidentally been transported to Mars due to the park’s red and black terrain, volcanoes and fields of virgin lava. Just don’t go dropping any precious jewellery in…

You can even sample food cooked using the heat of the volcano in the El Diablo restaurant, designed by Spanish architect and artist César Manrique. Talk about putting fire in your belly!

La Palma is one of the smallest Canary Islands but it’s pretty mighty when it comes to natural wonders. On P&O Cruises’ Volcanic Cave Exploration experiences, travelers can delve into a hidden subterranean world of caves and volcanic terrain, all formed by lava flow from San Juan volcano after its last eruption in 1949.

As for other P&O Cruises excursions in La Palma, visitors can check out the National Park of La Caldera de Taburiente – the number one tourist attraction on the little island – which is blanketed in dense Canarian pines and crisscrossed by deep ravines.

The park is also home to a colorful waterfall; the magical ‘Cascadade Colores’ features green hues from the algae and mosses as well as orange and yellow tones from the iron in the ravine’s water, which has one of the highest concentrations of the metal in La Palma. No jokes about drinking it making you Iron Man, please.

Signposted trails make exploring the park on foot simple and viewing points offer superb vistas on this P&O Cruises experience.

hiking

P&O Cruises excursions: Best for…Adventure

Adventure is easy to come by in the Canary Islands , but it doesn’t always have to involve hard work (hooray!). In both Fuerteventura and Lanzarote, P&O Cruises shore experiences offer 4×4 adventures so jet-setters can feel the thrill of speed while admiring lesser-seen areas of the islands from a comfortable seat.

In Fuerteventura, you’ll explore tranquil villages, farmland and the volcanic region of the island on a four-hour excursion, and in Lanzarote you’ll be treated to a three-and-a-quarter-hour tour of the island’s south, taking in natural wonders, a winery and local villages.

Wine production in the Canaries dates back to the mid-15th century – it’s even mentioned frequently in Shakespeare’s plays! Farmers had to adapt after the volcanic eruptions in the 18th century and make the most of the fresh layers of lava and volcanic ash known as picon, so they planted the vines underneath this black soil in order for moisture to be locked in and protect the hardy vines (you’re welcome if this ever comes up in a pub quiz).

Another influencing factor on the island’s unique wines? Lanzarote escaped the phylloxera plague which destroyed almost all of Europe’s vineyards in the 19th century which means local vines are ungrafted and can live longer (hoorah!).

These days, the island produces white, rosé and red wines, with the volcanic Malvasía grape variety standing out the most thanks to its balance and quality. Yup, you’ll definitely want to sample some on your Canary Islands excursions (and nope, no judgment if any bottles you buy are entirely for you).

With P&O Cruises excursions over in Tenerife, passengers can visit the summit of Mount Teide by cable car (no sweating required). Mount Teide, set in Teide National Park, is Spain’s highest volcano and offers a thrilling and otherworldly landscape of craters and lava flows.

The cable car enables visitors to soar above this magnificent array of unique colors and shapes and ascend to the top in just eight minutes – although you’ll have to hike the final part via one of three routes if you want to get to the highest peak.

From the summit you can even spot the nearby islands of La Gomera, El Hierro, La Palma and Gran Canaria on a clear day as well as the great caldera of Las Cañadas del Teide.

Mount Teide Tenerife Canary islands

P&O Cruises excursions: Best for… Aquatics

Yes, Canary Islands experiences offer incredible experiences on terra firma but there’s plenty to be enjoyed out on (or rather in) the water.

In Gran Canaria, P&O Cruises shore excursions include a five-hour submarine dive – yes it’s yellow (and environmentally friendly). Remain dry as you explore the lively underwater world off the coast of Puerto de Mogan – look out for Trumpet fish, moray eels, sea urchins, starfish and even shipwrecks through the large portholes as your captain reveals the secrets of the deep.

Another unique experience awaits vacationmakers in Lanzarote where you can enjoy a sea trek. Impressive technology and a nifty helmet offering impressive vision (and a continuous air supply, phew), allow you to walk along the sea bed and admire the delights of the marine world, from angel sharks to barracudas.

If you want to get in on the watery fun literally, then you’ll love the seven-hour Water Kingdom cruise excursion in Tenerife. At Siam Park, thrill-seekers can tackle the 28-metre drop at Tower of Power, the 200-metre mega slide Kinnaree and many other vertiginous slides. Eek!

The water park is also home to the world’s largest artificial wave pool, rapids and child-friendly zones. Should hurtling through water at high speeds not appeal, why not relax on the longest lazy river in the world or laze on Siam Beach?

diving canary islands

P&O Cruises excursions: Best for…Leisure

If you want to take it slow then P&O Cruises still has plenty of Canary Islands experiences to suit your needs.

In Gran Canara, it really says it on the tin with the Leisurely Gran Canaria Trip which sees globetrotters soak up the sights of the island at a sedate pace over four and a half hours. There’s also a cheese workshop if you fancy learning about the history and culture of cheese production as well as chowing down on the dairy goodness (yes please).

Over on La Palma, a good way to explore the island with minimum exertion is the four-and-a-half-hour P&O Cruises excursion to Santa Cruz by Open Top Minibus on which you’ll enjoy a panoramic tour of the city with the wind in your hair.

Santa Cruz was once a vital port on the voyage between Europe and the Americas, becoming the third largest port on the continent after Antwerp and Seville in the 16th century. The churches here house a significant collection of Flemish religious art and the carved wooden balconies overlooking the sea are worth keeping an eye out for, as are the colonial-style houses lining the cobblestone streets.

P&O 1 Week Iona Norwegian Fjords Cruise 2024 (HONEST Review)

P&O 1 Week Iona Norwegian Fjords Cruise

Welcome to our honest review of the P&O 1 Week Iona Norwegian Fjords Cruise.

In this article, we review the various aspects of our cruise experience, offering insights and firsthand experiences to help you make an educated decision about your future voyage. From the culinary offerings and accommodations to the onboard entertainment and shore excursions, we provide an unbiased account of what you can expect during your time aboard P&O Iona in 2024.

Let us be your guide as we navigate through the remarkable landscapes, experiences, and memories that await on this incredible journey through the Norwegian Fjords.

Table of Contents

Food: Satisfactory Selection, Familiar Menus

The food onboard the P&O cruise ship provided a satisfactory dining experience, though nothing truly exceptional stood out. It is important to note that four of the restaurants aboard the ship had identical menus, despite their varied settings. Therefore, while you may be seated at different venues throughout the ship, the food options remained the same.

Among the dining options, the Keel & Kow Steakhouse restaurant stood out as our favorite onboard. This restaurant required an additional fee, but the delicious steak offerings made it well worth the extra expense.

Additionally, the Beachhouse and Olive Grove restaurants were two hidden gems that demanded an extra charge but were undoubtedly worth every penny. The Beachhouse offered a tasty array of American and Caribbean dishes, while the Olive Grove showcased the rich flavors of Mediterranean cuisine.

While the overall food experience was satisfactory, it would have been more enjoyable to have greater diversity in menu options and unique dining experiences across the ship. Nonetheless, the presence of standout restaurants like the Keel & Kow, Beachhouse, and Olive Grove ensured that culinary delights were never far away for those willing to explore beyond the standard fare.

Dining on P&O cruise

Rooms: Exceeding Expectations in Comfort and Amenities

The accommodations on the P&O cruise ship were a pleasant surprise, exceeding our expectations. Opting for a standard balcony room provides ample space and comfort.

The rooms were well-equipped, featuring a minifridge, television, sofa, and a desk area. Ample wardrobe space allowed for easy organization, and the wide selection of movies on the television ensured entertainment during the downtime. The beds were comfortable, and we had a good night’s sleep throughout the journey.

Additionally, it is worth noting that the televisions in the rooms did not have access to Netflix or other streaming services. However, this wasn’t a significant drawback, considering the wide range of movies available on the television, which provided ample entertainment options. For those who desired a more personalized selection, we would recommend downloading movies onto your laptop before embarking on the cruise. This way, you can enjoy your preferred movies at your leisure.

Onboard Entertainment: Few Options with Room for Improvement

While the entertainment onboard the ship may not have been specifically tailored for young adults, this was something we expected and were prepared for. However, we really enjoyed the top deck. Here, we found a selection of sports and games that catered to everybody. Whether it was a friendly basketball match, a competitive game of table tennis, testing our skills on the giant chessboard, going for a run, or practicing our swing on the golf simulator, there was no shortage of fun activities to partake in.

Additionally, the ship’s gym proved to be a welcomed addition for those looking to maintain their fitness routines while cruising. Fully equipped with state-of-the-art equipment, the gym offered everything one needed for a comprehensive workout. What made the experience even more enjoyable was the breathtaking sea views that could be enjoyed while using the cardio machines.

For those seeking relaxation and pampering, the onboard spa provided a sanctuary of tranquility. While the prices were a little on the higher side, the spa treatments were still a pleasant indulgence. However, it’s worth mentioning that the staff could be quite pushy when it came to upselling additional products during our treatments. Despite this, the thermal spa onboard the ship was a standout feature that we highly recommend. This oasis of relaxation included a sauna, steam room, salt room, and jacuzzi, providing a rejuvenating and soothing experience after a day of exploration.

Shore Excursions: A Key Highlight, Planning is Key

The shore excursions stood out as some of the best experiences during our trip. However, we quickly learned that planning these excursions in advance is crucial to making the most of your time ashore. By avoiding booking directly with P&O and instead opting to book with tour operators when disembarking from the ship, you are able to save money and have more flexibility in selecting your preferred tours.

It’s important to note that the availability of these direct bookings is subject to the tour operators’ schedules, but rest assured, there are always options available for those who are not too particular about which tours to take. While some ports may offer limited activities beyond leisurely strolling around the towns, booking shore excursions provides an opportunity to delve deeper into the local culture, history, and natural wonders.

One of our most memorable excursions took place in the port of Olden. Here, we embarked on an awe-inspiring adventure by taking a skylift ride on one of the steepest lifts in the world. The ascent offered breathtaking views of the surrounding Norwegian Fjords, showcasing the sheer grandeur and magnificence of the landscape. It was a truly enjoyable experience that left a lasting impression and added a touch of adrenaline to our journey.

Staff & Service: Friendly and Helpful

One of our favourite aspects of our P&O 1 Week Iona Norwegian Cruise was the exceptional staff members onboard. From the moment we stepped foot on the ship, it was clear that the crew was dedicated to ensuring a pleasant experience for every guest. They consistently went above and beyond, working tirelessly to meet the needs and exceed the expectations of passengers.

The staff’s friendly and approachable nature created a warm and welcoming atmosphere throughout the ship. From the dining venues to the cabins and common areas, their genuine smiles and willingness to assist made us feel valued and appreciated as guests. No matter the request or inquiry, they were always quick to respond and provide helpful assistance.

While tipping is not mandatory on P&O cruises, we would strongly encourage leaving a gratuity for the hardworking staff. Their dedication and commitment to providing exceptional service deserve recognition and appreciation. Tipping is a personal decision, but it can be a meaningful gesture to express gratitude for the outstanding efforts put forth by the staff members who work tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure a smooth and enjoyable cruise experience for everyone.

Price: Good Value for a Unforgettable Journey

Considering the overall experience, the P&O cruise offers exceptional value for money. While additional expenses such as water, snacks, dining at specialty restaurants, and extras like photographs are to be expected, the initial price of the cruise itself, coupled with the quality of the accommodations, dining options, shore excursions, and fantastic service, make the investment worthwhile.

Guests should budget accordingly and prepare for the added expenses, but rest assured that the overall value received far exceeds the additional costs. The memories and experiences gained from a P&O cruise are truly priceless.

Fjords in Norway

The P&O 7-day Iona Norwegian Fjords Cruise offers a satisfying and memorable journey through the breathtaking landscapes of the Norwegian Fjords. With comfortable accommodations, standout dining options like the Keel & Kow steakhouse, and a range of onboard activities including sports on the top deck and a well-equipped gym, there is plenty to enjoy.

Planning shore excursions in advance and booking directly with tour operators proves to be a money-saving strategy, while the helpful and friendly staff adds to the overall experience.

Although some minor drawbacks exist, the cruise provides excellent value for money, allowing guests to indulge in relaxation, exploration, and unforgettable moments amidst the stunning scenery of the Norwegian Fjords.

Booked with P & O for next June. As I always enjoy planning a cruise I wanted to get an idea of the details and cost of their excursions. Am told you only get this information 80 days before - is there anywhere on the web where I can have a look NOW!!!!:confused::confused:

You can look now - you just cannot book and you cannot get a price for them. Ask on here - give the name of a port and if someone is going there within 80 days they would be able to look up details for you.

Have heard a rumour that you now have to pay for excursions as soon as you book online and before you actually cruise. This means you cannot use OBC to pay for excursions anymore.:(

Don't know if it's right as i don't have any P&O cruises booked (and no intention of doing so).:)

3,000+ Club

We're just back from Arcadia. I booked our excursions a couple of months ago, on-line. The costs of them appeared as the top entries in our on-board account, and was therefore set against our OBC. So at the moment it's all working as prevously.

Cheers Tom uk for the update. It will be a shame if the system has been changed. In the past i've booked excursions online and for various reasons have chopped and changed in the weeks leading up to the cruise. If you have to pay prior to boarding, i suspect there will be a cancellation charge.

Payment on booking is beginning to come in, as some people have already reported this. To me it's not welcome, as it means that any OBC cannot be spent on shore trips, unless you wait to book until you are on board. By this time there may not be any spaces left, and the prices can go up. As we don't drink much, there doesn't appear to be much else to spend OBC on, particularly if you have a lot.

If you let me know which cruises you are on, I can come with you and help you with your OBC problem. I don't drink all that much:rolleyes:

Think of it as a social service, as I would not like you to feel depressed because you had so much left.

We fly 7/12/12 and we definately have to pay for excursions prior to the cruise! The cruise personaliser isnt working still even though we fly less than six weeks and so cannot book and pay for any trips! We get as far as adding a trip to my basket but then an error appears. We have therefore booked our trips with companies on various islands! P and O have lost alot of money from us due to their rubbish new website! I dont mind paying up front but i cant even do that! Each time i ring i get told it will be up and running tomorrow! I have been told this for weeks!!! We cant even view our itinery or flights or anything!!!!

Sorry Dai, no can do, my wife will probably stock up with lots of new clothes from the on board shops.

If I want to get an idea of the cost of excursions , i picked a cruise going shortly to where i was going and i used to be able to get prices from that...however as everything is changing not sure if you could still do that.....
