Coming down from Tadian, one can stop by the municipality of Bauko which is growing in popularity as mother tourist destination area. With the terraces of vegetable gardens in the upper part of the locality, it also earned being called the “Salad Bowl of Mountain Province.” On the other hand, Lower Bauko has trails and mountains that can provide an amazing experience for nature lovers and mountaineering enthusiasts aside from the breathtaking views that come with it. Added to this, the Local Government in its aim to campaign to level up the municipality in terms of tourism and economy tagged it as “Bow ako sa ganda mo Bauko.”

Through the Spanish Trails of Cordillera – Bauko Seven Peaks

Bauko, is one of the Igorot settlements right at the heart of the Cordillera. It is set to be one of the places adventure seekers must rediscover when setting foot in Mountain Province.

tourist spots in bauko

Without any hesitation, I immediately signed up for an overnight hike in Bauko. I was excited to visit this place since as of writing, since there’s hardly any blog entries and articles online.

The Victories of the Then and Now

Table of Contents

We set out for Mountain Province on a Saturday night on a very long trip. The following morning, we found ourselves along the chilly provincial highway of Cervantes in Ilocos Sur. Little did we know that we are already inside the Bessang Pass Natural Monument.

tourist spots in bauko

We even stopped over three times just to admire the glorious sunrise over the cloud filled valleys of Cervantes, Ilocos Sur. Also, taking into account that this is one of the last strongholds of the Japanese Imperial Army during the World War II led by the fabled and infamous golden Buddha hoarder, Gen. Tomoyuki Yamashita. (The Victories of the Then and Now – Bessang Pass Natural Monument)

After more than an hour through the winding roads of Cervantes – Tagudin – Sabangan, we arrived at Brgy. Bila in Bauko, Mountain Province. The road  abruptly ended in one way streets all over the community.

The Gift of Bagnen Oriente

The place was a rather small with several houses and stores typical to any communities in the Cordillera. What’s more interesting is that graves with their accompanying markers are located everywhere. There is this age-old cultural belief of burying their loved ones near their homes.

tourist spots in bauko

We did a final supply run late in that morning as our guides also arrived just in time in Brgy. Bila. Contrary to the original plan of doing the six (6) peak traverse ending in Mt. Polis, we all agreed to just hike and camp at Mt. Polis. Then we will do the traverse of  the remaining peaks the following day.

Also given the fact that we might not enjoy the hike due to the intense summer heat and steep assaults in Mts. Amo Peak 1 and 2.

tourist spots in bauko

Our group started the hike at around 09:00 in the morning. Eventually everybody got warmed up as the welcoming sight of green rice terraces coupled with random pine trees around flanked the whole area.

Less than two hours of trek passing through foot paths of the locals, we arrived at one of the prominent ridges in Bauko which our guides refer to as Mt. Tul-uwan.

tourist spots in bauko

From this area, it gave us a vantage point of the low lying communities of Mountain Provinces. There’s also the vast rice terraces cut by a winding concrete road from down below.

tourist spots in bauko

We eventually had our lunch somewhere past the first peak, before reaching Brgy. Data through the Madepdepas Road.

We used the hiking trail leading to the campsite for the day although we can actually access the foot of Mt. Polis through the connecting community road from Brgy. Bila to Brgy. Data or Brgy. Bagnen Oriente and vice versa. (Well, charge to experience!)

tourist spots in bauko

Rain caught us off guard that we took shelter under one of the stores in Brgy. Data before resuming the trek. As the crying clouds eventually came to a halt, we then pushed through to Mt. Polis.

tourist spots in bauko

Get your feet and legs ready for the peak is accessible after hundreds of steps. The concrete stairs is reminiscent of that of other Cordillera mountains where you will be rewarded with cool breeze and pine trees in all directions.

tourist spots in bauko

We arrived at the campsite by 02:00pm, almost five (5) hours from Brgy. Bila. We the proceeded to set-up our tents for the night. The campsite is located just a few meters from the summit with some rock formations on the side. Dinner was served by 07:00 in the evening followed by one of the best socials I’ve had this year.

tourist spots in bauko

We eventually called it a night by 11:00pm and even got quite dissappointed for not being able to see the milky way galaxy that night due to thick cloud covers. Morning came and everyone got up by 05:00am partnered with the freezing cold, that a cup of hot and steaming coffee was the only best thing to have at that exact moment.

Sunrise in Bauko

We patiently waited for the sunrise while having the views all to ourselves.

tourist spots in bauko

As the dawn broke over the horizon, the horizon painted itself from pitch black darkness to dreamy hues of blue and purple. The sweeping 360 degree vista from the summit was definitely a sight to see.

tourist spots in bauko

The team could not contain their excitement as the clouds from down below started to float as if they were as thick as cotton balls. It wasn’t exactly as grand as that of in Mts. Pulag, Amuyao nor Napulauan, but it has this kind of charm that is worth seeing especially on this side of Mountain Province.

tourist spots in bauko

From the other side lies the famous Kiltepan Peak with the much coveted sea-of-cloud cover but take note that it looks even more stunning from this view point, trust me on this!

tourist spots in bauko

Everywhere I look at, the view turns into a promising vista of clouds, trees and rice terraces illuminated in the first light of the morning.

Bauko, Mountain Province

From the campsite, Sir Tatah and the others kept yelling that breakfast was served. But most of us are quite stubborn as we waited for the sun to rise.

The gift of Bagnen Oriente which is Mt. Polis, although named the same as that of the Provincial Boundary of Ifugao and Mountain Province, is a gem worth seeing.

Bauko, Mountain Province

The Spanish Trail

After having another set of sumptuous meal, everyone started to break camp to prepare for the next leg of the hike today. We started the descent on the other side of the mountain until we reached the Mountaineers Homestay. This is managed by Sir Paul Bill’s Family (our guide).

Bauko, Mountain Province

Then we just passed from here through several houses and narrow concrete pathways before the so-called Spanish Trail starts. Resuming the trek by 08:30am, the community eventually vanished as we entered the thick forest covers of the Spanish Trail.

Bauko, Mountain Province

A historic path laid now with thick bushes and flora, I kid you not, it was used by the Spaniards during the Spanish Occupation. This was used to expand their territorial reaches and also to introduce Catholicism on this side of the Cordillera Region.

Also, this trail was used by the Japanese Soldiers during the World War since the forest provides the best vantage point of the low lands. Also, a perfect cover during assaults by the Filipino Freedom Fighters.

As of today, this is now again used by the locals to connect the communities of Bauko, Tadian, Besao via Toktok Allan or Bagnen Oriente and vice versa.

Bauko, Mountain Province

There’s only one water source along the way. Limatik infested portions are after the Cotcot Aso Soil Jar (the first water source) before reaching Mt. Kapowao. The trail from here is wide enough and is semi covered in pine trees.

tourist spots in bauko

From the junction of Mt. Kapowao, the highest peak, Mt. Nentingle looms like a sentinel from the other side. We left our bags in the junction then did a rather quick (and exhausting) 20 minute assault to reach the very peak of it.

The trail was steep at some portion with loose rocks and soil, but from the top, the view was rewarding enough. The low lying community of Bagnen  Oriente dwarfed by Mt. Polis looks like a civilization in the sky.

tourist spots in bauko

The descent took us almost the same time as we did in climbing Mt. Nentingle to take caution of the slippery portions. Upon arrival in Mt. Kapowao Junction, we resumed to the next peak which is Mts. Mangasil and Bato.

(Travel Guide HERE)

tourist spots in bauko

Almost an hour away, we passed through mountain sides with deep ravines on the side. At some parts there are raised pathways/trails for people and some trenches which I assume are for horses and cows due. Then we arrived in Mt. Mangasil, which happens to be a knoll with views of Tadian, Ilocos Sur.

From Mt. Bato, the group decided to regroup so as to discuss who will be pursuing the last two peaks of Mts. Amo 1 and 2, since the weather might get worse by late afternoon.

tourist spots in bauko

I decided not to continue and descend on the migratory foot path leading directly to Brgy. Bila. Five of our group members continued on despite the ominous weather that was about to break in no time.

Passing through the Pandey Rice Terraces, we reached Brgy. Bila by 02:00 in the afternoon. Heavy rain fell as it clattered relentlessly on the sari-sari store roof where we took refuge. It took us roughly seven (7) hours to almost complete the circuit but still worried with the others which just recently reached the first peak. From there it is still around two hours away from the jump-off.

Bauko, Mountain Province

We tidied up in Otucan Sur, a community around a quarter of an hour away from Bila.  After we tidied up, our remaining group members arrived and made it all through the last 2 peaks after two more hours.

We all  bid goodbye to the wonderful people who assisted us on this one of a kind hike. Undoubdtedly, we are in high hopes that this area will be finally known by many because of the number of hiking trails with amazing views, waterfalls, rice terraces and the like.

tourist spots in bauko

In no time, this will be more accessible to more tourists as the 18km Sagada-Bauko Road is now eyed by the local government to link Abatan, Mountain Province – Ilocos Sur Junction leading to Sagada.

Bauko, Mountain Province

If planning your next hike to the Cordilleras, you might want to consider the lesser known yet historic trails of Bauko!

Top 20+ Abra Tourist Spots: Natural & Historical Places to See

What are the must-see tourist spots in Abra, aside from the iconic Kaparkan Falls? Find out more in this detailed guide. We also included the off-beaten destinations and the best things to do.

Abra, just like Kalinga, stands witness to the historic struggle of the people against corporate aggression. During the Martial Law regime, the Tingguian tribes resisted the Cellophil Resource Corporation from logging their mountains.

Despite years of civil unrest and insurgencies, Abra is now rising to the scene as a premier ecotourism destination.

Yes, Abra offers more than its historic churches or cultural sites. Its vast landscape also hosts countless natural wonders waiting to be discovered.

If sustainably managed, these could help boost the local economy while preserving the natural environment and the people’s rich cultural heritage.

The Farm Tourism Circuit of Benguet and Mountain Province

Table of Contents

H ome to a magnificent set of the picturesque highland countryside, the region of the Cordillera features an abundance of wonders. From its cool weather all year long to its majestic set of nature, fascinating culture, and mouth-watering local cuisine, an all too familiar feature of the region is gaining much-needed attention today. These are the fruit and vegetable farms of Benguet and Mountain Province.

Bauko Mountain Province Agritourism

Spread across the two provinces’ intertwining mountains are colorful fields of blooming flowers, lush green vegetables, and seasonal fruits, best typifying the ingenuity and hard work of the farmers of the Cordillera.

As the growing movement of choosing healthier food options such as farm-to-table expands, visiting these farms will also allow us to show gratitude to our farmers by including their livelihood source as a vital element of the tourism industry.

To help you plan your farm-hopping trip to Benguet and the Mountain Province, here are some farming communities you can visit.

Northern Blossom Flower Farm in Atok, Benguet

This 3-hectare farm that spreads over the scenic mountainside of Atok, Benguet, is where one can regale at the sweeping scenery of colorful flowers that bloom all year round. A variety of flowers of different types such as Matthiola, rice flowers, larkspurs, snapdragons, cabbage roses, and more, are harvested here and reach the many flower shops of Metro Manila to as far away as Mindanao.

Owned by Mrs. Melany Ganayan and her husband, Northern Blossom Flower Farm has embraced its ‘rock star of all flower farms’ status by welcoming visitors who wanted to stop by to snap some photographs as well as to pluck and buy some flowers.

A few homestays are now operating near the farm while a small café located within the farm offers a sweeping view of the farm and the mountain ranges of Cordillera—you can even see the peaks of Mt. Pulag and Mt. Timbak on a clear day—is set to open soon.

Buguias, Benguet

Buguias Benguet Farm - The Farm Tourism Circuit of Benguet and Mountain Province

The town of Buguias is said to be among the top vegetable producers in the country and where 80% of the town’s more than 40,000 population are farmers. Farms spanning the mountains and plains of the town are covered with lush vegetation consisting of almost every vegetable you can name.

From chop suey ingredients (potatoes, carrots, broccoli, lettuce, pechay, etc.) to beans, eggplants, okra, sayote, and even strawberries, one can visit the vegetable farms here and easily fill up a truck of fresh produce.

Other interesting places to visit in Buguias are the Veteran Memorial Marker, which marks the town’s liberation from the Japanese Imperial Army on July 27, 1945, and the World War II 66th Infantry Shrine along Halsema Highway. The town of Buguias is also the site of a 12th-century burial site that includes the mummified remains of Apo Anno—who was believed to have been originally buried in the 16th century.

Paoay, Benguet

Another easy-to-access farm—by Benguet standards—is the vegetable farm in Paoay, Benguet. Besides buying fresh produce and various succulent and snake plants from the farmers here, you can proceed on foot to nearby Bosleng Lourdes Grotto, which found shelter under a huge boulder on a stony peak surrounded by vegetable plantations.

Near the grotto, you can find a protruding rock that offers a magnificent view of the surrounding mountains and, on a good day, a sea of clouds.

Bauko, Mountain Province

Farm Tourism in Bauko Mountain Province

Benguet’s neighboring province, Mountain Province, is also dotted with lush vegetable and fruit farms. With an elevation rising above 4,100 feet above sea level, the mountain range’s topography on this part of the Cordilleras is perfect for planting and harvesting fresh yield. In the town of Bauko, one can visit one farm after the other, from potato farms to lettuce farms to strawberry, kale, and pepper, just to name a few.

This is also an idyllic place to learn more about agriculture from the local farmers themselves, as they are very friendly and accommodating in answering all your questions regarding their own farming techniques. Plus, you can always buy a few kilos of freshly harvested farm goods from them afterward.

Tadian, Mountain Province

The mother farmers in Tadian

Half an hour from Bauko, in the town of Tadian, one can find another lush farm but this time is laden with turmeric and ginger plants which the farmers—comprising mostly of local mothers—harvest to produce ginger and turmeric tea. With the help of a social enterprise called the Local Goodness PH , the farmers here are now planting and harvesting an increased production of turmeric and ginger because they can now market it directly to consumers in Metro Manila.

“Today, after the Local Goodness started taking orders for is, it motivated us to keep planting turmeric and ginger. Turmeric farming isn’t easy because it takes almost a year to cultivate it. With the help of the Local Goodness, we cannot stop now,” said one of the mother farmers Theresa Farnican.

Where to Stay

Haight’s place in sakura park (benguet).

Haight's Place

Currently, with 4 cabin-type rooms (undergoing construction for additional rooms), Haight’s Place screams a mountain vibe that one would expect in Benguet. The property sits in the middle of a wide expanse of green meadows dotted with flower farms—including a handful of Cherry “Sakura” Blossom trees that made headlines in social media a few years ago—, charming camping spots, and even a forest trail.

This is a perfect place to relax and set up a base if you’re planning to explore Benguet and nearby Mountain Province farms. The Naguey Rice Terraces are also visible from this place.

Northern Blossoms Flower Farm

Northern Blossoms Flower Farm

Located a few steps from the flower farm of Northern Blossoms. This simple homestay is the ideal place to stay and—literally—smell the flowers all the time.

The management is currently constructing a small café within the farm that will provide guests a romantic spot to have brewed coffee and a hearty breakfast while enjoying the marvelous sunrise over the vibrant flower fields.

The Instagrammable Rock at Bosleng Lourdes Grotto

How to Go Around

4 by-4 jeepneys are the ride of choice in this part of the Cordillera because of most roads’ uphill terrain. You can easily take one jeepney going to the next town from Atok to Buguias and Mountain Province. However, it would be more convenient if you come here aboard a private vehicle, probably a powerful pick-up or van, so you can have extra storage for the vegetables, fruits, and plants you’ll end up buying from the farmers.

Sagada Caves and Hanging Coffins

The unique burial practices in sagada.

One of the most fascinating aspects of the culture in Sagada is their burial practices. Unlike traditional Western burials, where the deceased are buried underground, the people of Sagada prefer to hang their loved one’s coffins on the sides of cliffs or caves.

This practice is believed to bring the deceased closer to heaven and closer to their ancestors. The hanging coffins are made from hollowed-out logs and are decorated with intricate designs.

Families will often keep their loved one’s coffin in a private location until it reaches its final resting place. The traditions associated with death in Sagada are deeply rooted in their history and beliefs, making it an unforgettable experience to witness.

Exploration of the Caves and Their Formations

Sagada is also famous for its many caves that have formed over thousands of years due to erosion and other natural processes. The most popular cave to explore is Sumaguing Cave, which has unique formations such as stalactites, stalagmites, and columns that have taken on shapes ranging from angels to vegetables!

Visitors can arrange guided tours through this cave or one of several other nearby ones like Lumiang Cave or Crystal Cave. The guides will take you through tight crevices where you may have to crawl on your hands and knees at times!

Trekking To See the Hanging Coffins

Hiking up to see these stunning hanging coffins can be a challenging but rewarding experience for visitors. There are several places where you can go trekking around Sagada including Echo Valley where most of these hanging coffins are located. The trek up involves walking through narrow paths surrounded by lush greenery while enjoying breathtaking views along the way.

Once you arrive at Echo Valley, you will be able to see the hanging coffins up close, and it’s an opportunity to learn about the stories and traditions behind this unique practice. Sagada offers a one-of-a-kind experience that is not found anywhere else in the world.

Exploring the caves and seeing the hanging coffins are just two of many exciting things to do in this picturesque town. Visitors will leave with memories that will last a lifetime while gaining a deeper appreciation for Filipino culture .

Bomod-ok Falls: A Natural Wonder

Mountain Province is home to many natural wonders that captivate tourists and locals alike. One of the province’s most popular tourist destinations is Bomod-ok Falls, a breathtaking waterfall located in Sagada .

The falls, also known as Big Falls, are located in Brgy. Bangaan can be accessed through an easy trek.

Location and Accessibility

The trail to Bomod-ok Falls involves crossing streams and walking on rocky terrain so it’s recommended for visitors to wear sturdy footwear. There are also local guides available who can assist tourists during the trek for an additional fee.

Description of Natural Beauty

Once visitors reach Bomod-ok Falls, they will be rewarded with a stunning view of a 200-meter-high waterfall surrounded by lush greenery and towering cliffs. The sound of cascading water combined with the fresh mountain air provides a refreshing break from city life.

Visitors can take a dip in the cool waters at the base of the falls or simply sit by its edge while taking in its natural beauty. The area surrounding Bomod-ok Falls offers plenty of opportunities for hiking as well, with various trails leading up to nearby rice terraces.

Swimming, Hiking, and Picnic Activities

Aside from swimming and hiking around Bomod-ok Falls, tourists can also enjoy picnic activities at designated areas near the falls while soaking up its scenic views. Visitors are advised to bring their own food and drinks as there are no stores or restaurants nearby.

Overall, a visit to Bomod-ok Falls is a must-have experience for anyone traveling to Mountain Province. It offers an escape from city life and the chance to connect with nature in a truly unforgettable way.

Experiencing Local Festivals: Lang-Ay Festival & Begnas Festival

One of the best ways to experience the rich cultural heritage of Mountain Province is by attending one of its colorful festivals . Here are two of my favorites:

Lang-Ay Festival

Held annually during April in Bontoc town, Lang-Ay Festival celebrates the different tribes that call Mountain Province home. It features street dancing competitions with performers dressed in vibrant costumes showcasing their respective culture’s dances to lively music mixed with gongs. The celebration ends with an evening concert featuring live bands playing local folk songs as well as contemporary tunes.

Top Places to Visit in Sagada, Mountain Province

It may seem tiresome with all the long drives, early morning wake up call and thousands of steps up and down the hill or stairs but I must say, Sagada is more than worth it. All the beautiful and scenic distractions it offers along the journey and the priceless view and takeaways at the end of it are all worth it. It truly has a lot to offer and if you wish to explore this charming little town in Mountain Province, here’s a list of the top places to visit in Sagada, Mountain Province to begin with!

Important note : The local tourism office requires the tourists to get a guide for each attraction or tourist spot. Hence, visiting three tourist spots, say in a day, requires three different guides, too. Rates vary depending on the number of guests to accompany and per attraction. Aside from the guide fee, prepare for the shuttle and other additional fees (entrance, helmet rental, etc.) depending on ones’ chosen spot to visit. Shuttle rental is mandatory since the LGU does not allow private vehicles around primarily to systematically regulate the tourist flow.

Balangagan Cave

Belonging to the less-traveled attractions in Sagada is this hidden wonder in the south called Balangagan cave. This cave offers interesting formations of stalactites, stalagmites, draperies, flowstones, columns and pillars that the local guides have amazingly weaved into a fiction. Apart from these fascinating formations, you’d also chance upon hanging coffins and ancestral burial jars around the cave. The best way to witness all these is through a guided spelunking activity.

Tourists can hire a local guide at the tourism office. Rate starts at Php 800.00 per guide who can accompany up to five people. It is also mandatory for the tourists to get a local shuttle. If you wish to mingle with the locals in Sagada, you should visit the Kamangwit Eco Park or South Park. We visited it one Saturday evening and we got a chance to enjoy the local food including Pinikpikan and Etag , witness their courtship and other traditional dances and listen to some modern songs originally composed by a local band! They also have some souvenirs on display. During the holiday season, they would set up lights to make it a Christmas village. During the day, you may opt to visit the nearby hanging coffins.

tourist spots in bauko

Apart from the natural and scenic attractions, among the ones that is frequently visited places in Sagada is the Sagada Weaving. It is considered as a pioneer in the town’s weaving industry as it has been running since 1968. Take note that Sagada weaving also observes non-working holidays so expect no weavers during such days.

Sagada Pottery

An added variety to our adventurous Sagada itinerary is a visit to the Sagada Pottery.

tourist spots in bauko

Sagada pottery does not only sell their very own earthen products but also show the tourists how they initially make one from scratch while explaining the whole process comprehensively, too. Not only that they would let you watch, but you can also try it yourself, too! Behind the amazing earthenware craftsmanship in Sagada Pottery are the women from Applai Kankanaey tribe – Siegrid Bangyay, Tessie Baldo and Ardeth Butic. The products that they have made have been brought and exhibited in various fairs and museums. The humble beginning of pottery in Sagada can be traced back in 1960’s when Archie Stapleton, an American potter came to the town. Stapleton himself taught the women who have been continuing the craft until today.

The demo costs Php 200.00 for a group . If you wish to get your hands mold something amazing, you may also try it out yourself with the guidance of the artisan for only Php 100.00 . You may also buy it, too!

Mt. Polis may not be located in Sagada but it lies just a few minutes away from the southern side of it. It’s actually located in its neighboring town, Bauko Mountain Province. We may have not witnessed it ourselves, but it is said that it is also among the best places to experience a 360-degree view of sea of clouds that is almost touching one’s feet. It took us more or less an hour of an uphill walk on a concrete staircase. The trek started at around 4:30 AM and we reached the summit before the sun has fully risen.

Echo Valley and Hanging Coffins

Among the top favorite places to visit in Sagada are the Echo valley and Hanging Coffins. These offer the best experience to know more about Sagada’s traditional and modern death and burial rituals. This also includes a visit in the Anglican cemetery where one can witness Panagapoy especially during November 1. The trail is beginner-friendly and does not require any advance navigational skills. Most of the path that you’ll walk on is paved and the stairs have safety rails, too. Guide fee is at Php 300.00 for ten persons with an additional Php 10.00 per head for the access fee.

Bomod-ok Falls

Bomod-ok Falls is probably one of those places where one would say, “it’s all worth it.” Despite the challenging trek, a lot would still visit it as the view is indeed rewarding and worth it. The stunning sight of the terraces and hills would at least compensate the more or less two hours of challenging trail, though. At the end of it anyway is the highest falls in Sagada, about 200-feet high, where one can refresh in its ice-cold waters. If you are up for some adrenaline pump, you may also try jumping off the 20-feet high point down to its cool, verdant basin.

tourist spots in bauko

Pongas Falls

Pongas falls is one of the majestic yet less traveled falls in Sagada. This breathtaking 40-meter high twin-like falls can be reached in more or less 30-minute hike. Before Ankileng village, the jump off to Pongas falls, is a hanging bridge with a stunning view. Prepare, though, as past this stunning sight is a literally breathtaking trek with several assaults.

Guide fee is at Php 600.00 for 1 to 10 persons with an additional Php 650.00 for the local shuttle . They collect an entrance fee of Php 30.00 at Ankileng village.

Lamagan (Marlboro Hills)

tourist spots in bauko

Marlboro hills, locally known as Lamagan , is popularly known as such due to the presence of wild horses and other wild animals few ages ago like the ones in Marlboro country. Lamagan is located in eastern side of the town. It is one of the best spots in Sagada to witness a breathtaking sunrise rising behind the stark outline of ranges from afar, above the sea of clouds. The trek to Lamagan usually starts at 4:00 AM to get into the summit at around 5:30 AM, just in time before the sun has fully risen. The trail is beginner-friendly but make sure that you wear a pair of comfortable footwear as it is quite a long trek especially if you opt to traverse to Blue Soil.

Guide fee is at Php 800.00 good for ten persons . The shuttle rental starts at Php 650.00 .

Past the seemingly unending pine tree-covered trail is quite a sweet surprise – heaps of blue soil!

One of the unique and top places to visit in Sagada is the Blue Soil locally known as Kaman Utek . According to our guide, the soil in this area contains high copper sulfate resulting to its bluish color. This color becomes more vivid especially after a rain. The best time to visit is early in the morning to witness the bluish color. The color gets lighter as if the blues are fading at midday.

The guide fee in this attraction is at Php 800.00 good for 1 to 5 persons . Shuttle rental is at Php 850.00 and can carry up to 12 persons.

Often times, tourists would opt to take the Marlboro hills – Blue soil traverse trip. The trek may take more or less 5 hours with a guide fee at Php 1600.00 good for 1 to 10 persons . The shuttle fee, on the other hand , is at Php 1,350.00 .

Lumiang-Sumaging Cave

One of the most challenging yet top favorite places to visit in Sagada is the Lumiang-Sumaguing Cave connection located in central Sagada. These two are both burial caves, too, with fascinating formations; one of which is the remarkable King’s curtain (in Sumaguing). The spelunking activity that may take 4 to 5 hours may be physically challenging but is guaranteed to be exciting. It requires going through tight spaces, so it’s a big no for the claustrophobics.

Guide fee is at Php 800.00 for one to a group of five . Shuttle fee, on the other hand, is free if you’ll stay in Bilza.

DOT inspects tourist spots in Bauko

Hent

BAUKO, Mountain Province  – Officials of the Cordillera office of the Department of Tourism (DOT-CAR) conducted a recent inspection in the various tourist destinations in the municipality to help in aggressively promoting the locality as a potential tourist destination that would help propel economic growth.

Regional Director Maria Venus Q. Tan of the Department of Tourism, Cordillera was met and guided by Mayor Abraham B. Akilit and Sanggunian members  Ricky Samidan, Ashly Sili and Mario Gaoken in a tourism inspection tour here recently.

The tourist spots that were visited by the team were Mount Polis, the 360 degree viewpoint of Mountain Province, including the sights viewed at the summit. These include Balew Rice Terraces, Magwed, Taakan, Mapanawil and the Dap-ay Rice Terraces.  Other sights were Mount Nentingli, Mount Kalawitan, and activities like cloud-watching and mountain contour-viewing. The vivacious director conquered Mount Polis via the 540 steps and foot trail.  Part of the tour was the exposure to the tourism road leading to Sagada (via Taccong) and the Bagnen-Abatan-Ilocos road. She also had a rendezvous in the only homestay in Bauko with the “sinegtiman kiwet” (jojo fish with fermented tapuy).

Based on the assessment of the DOT-CAR official, she underscored the importance of the well-preserved forests in the different parts of the municipality and proper environmental conservation which is one of the key factors in sustaining the growth of tourism.

She claimed various tourism activities friendly to nature will surely flourish in the locality once the people and officialdom will be able to sustain the good state of the environment.

Mayor Akilit expressed his gratitude to the DOT-CAR team that visited and inspected the tourist spots in the municipality, citing that he is optimistic that the tourism department will be able to extend the necessary technical assistance for the aggressive promotion of the tourist spots in the town.

According to him, tourism will be one of the identified economic drivers of the municipality because of the scenic beauty of the towering mountains that provide a clear view of the highlands and the lowlands, thus, the need for the municipal government to focus on sustaining the promotion of potential tourist destinations for more foreign and domestic visitors.
