La liga usa-mexico tour 2023: schedule, tickets, stadiums and more, share this article.

Four of Spain’s biggest clubs will head to the USA and Mexico this summer for preseason friendlies.

However, the country’s two biggest clubs, Real Madrid and Barcelona, will not be taking part.

But there will still be plenty of star power on display as Atlético Madrid, Real Betis, Real Sociedad and Sevilla all head to North America ahead of the 2023-24 season.

A statement from La Liga said: “The summer tour is part of La Liga and its clubs’ strategy to grow the Spanish Professional League’s footprint in the United States and Mexico.

“The tour will make its first stop in 2023 in the United States and Mexico. It will continue the strategy to develop and grow the league, its clubs and competitions in North American markets.”

Each of the clubs will play two games, one in Mexico and one in the United States. The two games in the U.S. will be a doubleheader at Oracle Park in San Francisco.

LaLiga to Bring Four Teams to North America for LaLiga Summer Tour, with Clubs Competing in Monterrey, Guadalajara and San Francisco

The four teams, Atlético de Madrid, Sevilla FC, Real Betis Balompié, and Real Sociedad, will face off in front of North American fans with games taking place in Mexico’s 2026 World Cup venues and San Francisco's iconic Oracle Park.

LUN 10.04.2023

LaLiga Summer Tour, the top Spanish professional league’s platform to organize tours in the summer window, will bring four teams - Atlético de Madrid, Sevilla FC, Real Betis Balompié, and Real Sociedad - to North America for four friendly matches this summer. The matches will take place in Mexico and the United States, giving North American soccer fans a chance to experience the excitement of LaLiga up close.

To kick off the tour, Atlético de Madrid will take on Real Sociedad at the Estadio BBVA in Monterrey, Mexico on Wednesday, August 2nd, while Sevilla FC will face Real Betis in a derby rivalry fixture at the Estadio Akron in Guadalajara, Mexico. These matches will mark the first time ever that two LaLiga clubs will play head-to-head in a friendly match on Mexican soil. The tour will culminate in a double-header at Oracle Park in San Francisco, California on Saturday, August 5th where Atlético de Madrid will play against Sevilla, and Real Betis will round out tour play against Real Sociedad.

This continues LaLiga North America’s strategy to expand the fan base for LaLiga, it’s clubs, and players across the United States and Mexico, particularly engaging with young and diverse followers. In partnership with Relevent Sports, the premier soccer events and media company in North America, the LaLiga Summer Tour will be the biggest tour LaLiga has organized outside of Spain. Relevent will organize and operate the tournament across each date.

"The LaLiga Summer Tour is an exciting opportunity for us to continue reaching new fans by bringing the history and passion of LaLiga to North America," said Óscar Mayo, Executive General Director of LaLiga. "LaLiga is in a period of rapid transformation as more teams are improving and the athletes are reaching entirely new fan bases globally. There’s a real passion growing in Mexico and the United States for the sport and we hope to tap into that with this tour.”

"We are thrilled to bring our teams to North America and showcase the talent and excitement of LaLiga to fans across the continent. We believe that through these matches we can continue to foster deeper connections with our fans across Mexico and the United States," added Boris Gartner, CEO of LaLiga North America.

Tickets for the LaLiga Summer Tour will go on sale on April 27th. Fans can find out more information and have access to priority ticket purchasing by visiting the following link: https://www.releventsportsgroup.com/laliga

The tour will be available across the ESPN platforms and SKY, the official broadcasters of LaLiga in the U.S. and Mexico, respectively. As a result, LaLiga fans will be able to enjoy each match exclusively on their platforms.

Atletico Madrid, Sevilla headline LaLiga North American summer tour

atletico madrid usa tour 2023

LaLiga North America, the joint venture involving Spain's LaLiga and promoters Relevent Sports, announced that its summer tour will involve Atletico Madrid , Real Betis , Real Sociedad and Sevilla .

The tour will be comprised of four exhibition matches with Atletico Madrid taking on Real Sociedad on Aug. 2 in Monterrey, Mexico, while city rivals Betis and Sevilla will play in Guadalajara on the same day. The latter match could feature Mexico internationals Andres Guardado with Real Betis and Sevilla's "Tecatito" Corona.

The tour will conclude three days later with a doubleheader at San Francisco's Oracle Park, with Atleti taking on Sevilla while Real Sociedad will play Real Betis.

- Stream on ESPN+: LaLiga, Bundesliga, more (U.S.)

The tour is the latest attempt to increase La Liga's visibility in North America, even as Relevent Sports is engaged in litigation against the U.S. Soccer Federation and FIFA in a bid to hold official league matches from LaLiga in the United States.

While North America is a region where interest in the English Premier League runs high, La Liga North America president Boris Gartner noted that the large number of Spanish speakers across the continent allows for building deeper connections with fans in the region.

"North America is a key market," Gartner told ESPN. "The Premier League has been a lot more intentional in their international expansion over the past decade. But if you really look at the demographic in general, this country is probably getting more diverse and multicultural by the day.

"[La Liga] has a cultural connection that no other property really has. The players from the national teams in their home countries, most of them either play in LaLiga or have passed through LaLiga. So there is that emotional connection as well. So we feel that we have a lot to do, but that this territory specifically, and North America in general, is a huge growth market where we have really great cultural connection, language connection with, with the growing demographic in the country."

LaLiga giants Barcelona and Real Madrid will not be part of the tour. The two clubs currently have a tense relationship with LaLiga over their continued support of the proposed European Super League, as well as they fact that during the 2021-22 season two clubs earned more than a fifth of LaLiga's television revenue.

Nonetheless, Gartner is keen to broaden the league's appeal. Atletico Madrid has challenged the duopoly between Barcelona and Real Madrid in recent years, winning La Liga as recently as 2020-21.

"Not being naïve, the audience and the power that those two brands command is something that we have to play to our advantage," Gartner said. "But we've constantly been trying to tell stories around the rest of the teams that participate in the league just because we are at the end of the day promoting the competition."

European clubs have drawn criticism in the past for touring the U.S. without their best players. Gartner said while there are no absolutes, the fact that this summer won't include a men's World Cup or European Championship will help ensure that the four LaLiga clubs will bring their top performers.

"This is a very clean summer as we're calling it," Gartner said in reference to the international men's calendar. "And we are not only expecting that the teams will show up with the stars, but they've seen this as an opportunity for promotion like no other.

"So it's going to be in our best interest to show up with the stars as well."

I woke up today to a balmy 74ºF in Boston and suddenly felt the first trumpets of the summer. And later, the Premier League and LaLiga announced they would be around this side of the Atlantic during the sunshine season and decided to wear shorts and flip-flops to fit the mood.

We already talked to you about the Premier League visit here , so this post will solely focus on LaLiga. Who is coming? When and where are they coming? And who is playing against who?

Easy, the answers are coming.

LaLiga Summer Tour 2023 Mexico, United States

LaLiga has been dreaming about hosting regular season matches on this side of the world for a long time, but for now, having friendly games during the off-season is the only chance available.

The U.S. is a periodic destination in this context, but LaLiga has also decided to add a couple of games in México to the calendar this year. In fact, the tour starts there on Aug. 2.

The matches?

  • Atlético de Madrid vs. Real Sociedad – Estadio BBVA, Monterrey – 9 p.m. ET
  • Sevilla vs. Real Betis – Estadio Akron, Guadalajara – 11 p.m. ET

Both games are in 2026 World Cup stadiums and El Derbi Andaluz between Sevilla and Betis surely will bring special sauce, considering Tecatito Corona and local boy Andrés Guardado could clash against each other.

The tour then moves to the U.S. for a doubleheader at Oracle Park in San Francisco on Saturday, Aug. 5. Tickets will grant access to both games that night.

  • Real Sociedad vs. Real Betis – Oracle Park, SF – 7 p.m. ET
  • Atlético de Madrid vs. Sevilla – Oracle Park, SF – 10 p.m. ET

Going Beyond The Game -The Ultimate Atletico Madrid Stadium Tour And Guide

Atletico Madrid’s new Stadium was opened to the public in 2017, and takes its name the ¨Metropolitan Stadium¨ from the original stadium they played at back in the 60s. The stadium is has the third largest capacity for spectators in Spain at close to 70,000 (67,289 to be exact). That’s 14,000 more than the previous Vicente Calderon stadium.

The Civitas Atletico Madrid stadium cost an impressive €310m euros to build, €250m to build the actual stadium, and €60m for the purchase of the land. The stadium sits on what used to be an athletics stadium where some of the Olympic Games took place, and part of the main stand actually incorporates some of the old stands.

The construction is really well thought out so getting in an out is more efficient, the acoustics are amazing so you can imagine how the players hear all the chants, and the seats are pretty comfortable. I can actually see the stadium from my balcony, and when they put on a light show it´s quite a spectacle.

Is was pretty hard for the die hard fans to accept the new home, after so many years of playing at the Vicente Calderon, but the Metropolitan Stadium is jam packed every week and the fans have definitely accepted this as the new home of Atletico Madrid FC.

Why Is It Called The Civitas Stadium?

You might be a little confused about the name of the stadium, and you will hear different variations such as:

  • Atletico Madrid Stadium
  • Metropolitano Stadium
  • Atletico Madrid Metropolitano Stadium
  • Wanda Metropolitano Madrid

Confusing right, but let me help clear it up a little. In the UEFA marketing material, due to sponsorship regulations, the official name of the stadium is ¨Estadio Metropolitano¨. The name Wanda comes from the investment group that acquired a 20% steak in Atletico Madrid in 2015 making them the majority owner, and they had a 5 year sponsorship deal starting in 2017. The rest of the variations are just what develop amongst fans and media, but any one of them will do.

In 2022, that sponsorship deal ended, and a new deal was struck with the Real Estate company Civitas, so the club now uses this name.

Concerts At The Wanda Metropolitano Stadium

It’s not just football you can see at the stadium, they also put on concerts, and with it’s lights and the perfect acoustics, it’s a perfect place to listen to music outdoors at that scale. We’re not talking just any bands here, the likes of Metallica and Rammstein are due to have concerts at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium in 2023, and many more giant names from the music world.

Rugby At The Wanda Metropolitano Stadium

If you are a rugby fan, keep an eye out on the notice board for the stadium, from time to time they put on international and national rugby games at the stadium.

The Atletico Madrid Stadium Tour

In Madrid and you want to see something amazing, a trip to the Atletico Madrid Stadium should be on your itinerary. Even if you don’t like football, just to see such an immense achievement of architecture is quite the sight. There are hundreds if not thousands of historic buildings you can see in Madrid, but the newer ones deserve some appreciation too.

When you arrive at the stadium, just the sheer size of the outside should be enough to impress you, but there is so much more in side. During the tour you get to see all the same places the players pass through, the changing rooms, the pitch, the dugout, the presidential box, the VIP rooms, and the press room, and it’s a strange feeling to imagine being a player and having that room full of people asking you questions.

The pitch is an impressive 105m x 68m, and when you are standing on the pitch, and you look around at close to 70,000 seats, the magnitude of the stadium makes you feel really small. Now imagine a person in each one of those seats shouting at the top of their lungs!

The best part of the stadium for me, and its a little silly, but when you are walking through the tunnel toward the pitch, you feel like a little kid. Many of us imagine something like this, how it would feel to walk out in to a stadium full of people, and although you don’t get the fan experience, it’s still pretty impressive when you come out the other end of the tunnel and see the stadium in all its glory.

You have two options of tickets for the Atletico Madrid Stadium tour.  You can get a fixed date ticket, where you will specify the time and date you will be attending, or you can but an open ticket that you will be able to use at any time subject to availability. If there is a game or an event taking place on the day you want to visit, there may be some restrictions to the times of the tour.

Territory Atleti Museum

atletico-madrid-museum

The Territory Atleti Museum is dedicated to the history of the Atletico Madrid Club, and has everything you would expect. Walls lined with pictures of legends such as Diego Simeone, Luis Aragonés, Antoine Griezmann, Torres, Falcao and the list goes on.

You get a fully immersive experience, an education in the culture of Atletico Madrid narrated by players present and past. There is a hundred years of football history spread out over 1,400 square metres with interactive screens, educational videos, mini movies blasting out of projectors letting you relive some of the  most important moments in the clubs history.

If you want something to do with the kids in Madrid, this is a really good idea, because you get to walk around so they wont get bored, the museum is very new and full of activities for the kids, and dad gets to enjoy a few hours with everything being about football, but the rest of the family get to be just as entertained too.

The museum is open to visit Tuesday to Sunday  from 11am to 1pm, then again from 3.30pm tp 5.30pm. The tour is very well organized, and gives you more than enough time to see everything with time to appreciate it.

How To Get To The Atletico Madrid Stadium

When the stadium was being built, there were talks with the local council to improve roads around the stadium, create more access points from the motorway, and talks of extending metro lines and adding more buses. A lot of these promises have been made true, and there are quite a few ways to get to the stadium, and it should be pretty easy to do no matter where in Madrid you are staying.

Within a 5-15 minute walk to the Wanda Stadium, there are four Metro stations. Las Rosas on line 2, Canillejas on line 5, Las Musas on line7, and Estadio Metropolitano on line 7. The closest is going to be the Metro Estadio Metropolitano, it’s pretty much right in front, and it will be really busy on a game day.

My advice would be to get off at Las Rosas or Canillejas where there will be less people, and you can take a 10 minute walk to the stadium with less of a hassle.

There are a number of busses that go to the Atletico Madrid Stadium from different parts of the city, here is a little guide:

The 140 Bus:  This bus goes from Pavones To Canillejas

The 28 Bus:  This bus goes from Puerta De Alcala to Canillejas

The 288 Bus:  This bus goes from Garcia Noblejas to Cementerio Tanatorio

The 38 Bus:  This bus goes from Manuel Becerra to Las Rosas

There are a few more buses  with a stop close to the stadium with a short walk involved,  28, 38, 48, 140, 153, E2, N5 and N6 (the last two are night buses). If you are unsure, you can use the EMT journey planner .

By Car If you are going to be driving to the Atletico Madrid Stadium, you can exit the M-40 at either the Arcentales exit or the 9A exit. If you take the A-2 you will need to get off at exit 8.

Parking  They have designated parking at the stadium, but these are mostly reserved for subscribing fans who purchase a parking ticket prior to the game, and the ticket lasts for 6 hours in total. 4 hours before and 2 after the end of the game. You can park in the neighborhoods around, and you will probably have to walk 10-20 mins, but its not much different to taking and walking after getting off the bus.

Buying tickets to an Atletico Madrid game You can buy your tickets for Atletico Madrid, from a number of places, and you can search for some deals online, check comparison websites, but to be on the safe side, I would always advise buying your tickets in advance directly from the clubs website .

Atletico Madrid seating plan You can see the complete seating plan for the Atletico Madrid Stadium here .

Do kids enter free? Entrance to both the Metropolitano Stadium tour and the Territorio Atleti museum are free for children under 4 years old.

Is there wheelchair access to Atletico Madrid Stadium? The stadium has great wheelchair access, you just need to let them know at the time of booking, and there are also accessible toilets around the stadium.

Can you take pets in the stadium? Sorry, but our furry friends are not allowed into the stadium.

In Conclusion

The tour itself will last around 1 hour, not including the travel to and from, but its a great way to spend either your morning or early afternoon as part of your itinerary in Madrid. From here, you can hop on a number of modes of transport, and be back in the center of Madrid in half an hour. if you need a few ideas on how to continue your day:

LaLiga US tour excludes Barca, Real Madrid due to Super League

kyle fansler

by Kyle Fansler April 13, 2023

atletico madrid usa tour 2023

LaLiga is organizing a summer tour in the US and Mexico that features four teams. Notably, that set of four teams does not include the two most popular teams in the Spanish top flight, Real Madrid and Barcelona . Instead, the four clubs traveling with LaLiga are Atletico Madrid , Sevilla, Real Sociedad and Real Betis.

An announcement from LaLiga North America stated that those four teams will play a total of four games. Intercity rivals Sevilla and Betis play one another in Guadalajara on Aug. 2. On the same day in Monterrey, Atletico Madrid takes on Real Sociedad. Three days later, there is a doubleheader in San Francisco at Oracle Park, the home of MLB’s San Francisco Giants. Atletico faces Sevilla, and Sociedad battles Betis.

The set of games are a bid to boost the growing presence of LaLiga in North America . However, there may be concerns over how effective this competition can be without titans like Barcelona and Real Madrid. Right now, LaLiga and those two clubs have a tense relationship. Both still are pushing to make the European Super League happen, which is a concept LaLiga is firmly against.

In a LaLiga statement in February 2023, league president Javier Tebas said the Super League will wreak havoc on domestic leagues.

“Domestic leagues run the risk of disappearing with a Super League format,” Tebas said . “If their model is based on ‘several divisions’, with an elite group ensuring they stay in the top flight, their model is not 100 percent open as they falsely promise.”

LaLiga US tour goes against Barcelona and Real Madrid

The LaLiga tour going on without Barcelona and Real Madrid could damage the popularity of the games, particularly in the United States. While there are representatives from El Tri on Real Betis and Sevilla, these four clubs do not have the same impact of UEFA Champions League-winning clubs such as Barcelona or Real Madrid.

Even worse, both clubs are planning games in the United States for the summer of 2023. That includes a potential third Clásico in the United States . Real Madrid played Barcelona in Miami in 2017, then they played again in Las Vegas this past summer. Both of those games, which were fairly independent from LaLiga, were massive successes . The Miami game brought in 1.7 million viewers on ESPN .

TV coverage and tickets for the LaLiga tour across the US and Mexico are still not available. Yet, based on LaLiga North America’s deal with Relevent, LaLiga now has production studios in Mexico, and the league has a media rights deal with ESPN, where most of the LaLiga TV schedule features on ESPN+.

The fact that Real Madrid and Barcelona are not involved in LaLiga’s official summer tour of the United States is a concern. With LaLiga battling against the popularity of the Premier League and Liga MX in the United States, LaLiga needs a united front. Instead, the split between the top two clubs and LaLiga is a detriment to what could have been so much bigger and better.

Taylor Swift is gearing up for a massive, lengthy European tour. Starting in Paris and ending in London , the tour is planned to span across 14 different countries and even more cities.

The Eras Tour is slated to begin on May 9 , with an ending date of August 20 . With her boyfriend, Travis Kelce , currently resting during the offseason, many have wondered whether the Super Bowl winner will join her on tour .

Will Travis Kelce join Taylor Swift on European Eras Tour?

While nothing has been confirmed yet, celebrity psychic Inbaal Honigman has come out with a prediction.

Travis wants to keep his relationship on an even keel... He doesn't want to lose the stability that he has with his creative lady, and will come to visit a few European destinations with her when she's touring the continent. However, Travis doesn't want to overstay his welcome... when the athlete feels that he's more of a hindrance, he'll catch a flight home.

Honigman also claims that Kelce will visit her a second time before the NFL season starts. The Kansas City Chiefs will begin their regular season on September 5 , when they will host the first game of the season.

But the preseason begins on August 10 . Although Kelce probably won't even play in the preseason, he needs to be practicing with the team in the lead-up to the season during training camp and throughout the month of August.

Training camp generally begins in late July . Swift will be in Germany at that time.

Make or break for Barcelona in Mundial de Clubes qualifying race

Find out what teams in Africa, Asia and Europe stand on the brink of sealing their places at the inaugural 32-team global showpiece.

Sergi Roberto of Barcelona celebrates after Robert Lewandowski of Barcelona (not pictured) scores his team's third goal during the UEFA Champions League 2023/24 round of 16 second leg match against Napoli.

Mamelodi Sundowns, Salzburg, Atlético Madrid and Ulsan on the brink of qualifying

Two other clubs, ES Tunis and Jeonbuk Motors, could also clinch their spots in April

Barcelona face make-or-break tie against Paris Saint-Germain

Four more clubs – Ulsan HD FC (KOR), Mamelodi Sundowns FC (RSA), FC Salzburg (AUT) and Club Atlético de Madrid (ESP) – are poised to claim their places at the inaugural 32-team Mundial de Clubes FIFA™ (FIFA Club World Cup 2025™) over the course of the next three weeks, while FC Barcelona (ESP) face another make-or-break tie in their bid to qualify. The continental competitions resume from 29 March with quarter-finals in the CAF Champions League, Concacaf Champions Cup and UEFA Champions League, while the AFC Champions League is at the semi-final stage. The first matches are in Africa where Al Ahly (EGY), CAF Champions League winners in 2020-2021 and 2022-2023, and Wydad Athletic Club (MAR), winners in 2021-2022, have already qualified as continental champions and will be joined by this year's winners and one team via the ranking pathway. The latter will be either Mamelodi Sundowns or Espérance Sportive de Tunis (TUN), although both clubs will qualify if one or the other go on to lift the trophy, or if Al Ahly win the title for a record 12th time. Mamelodi Sundowns, the most successful club in the South African Premier Division with 13 titles, will book their place if Espérance lose their quarter-final. The Shoe Shine and Piano face Young Africans SC (TAN) (30 March and 5 April) while four-time champions Espérance play AS des Employés de Commerce Mimosas (CIV) (30 March and 6 April). Furthermore, if Mamelodi lose their quarter-final with either a draw and defeat or two defeats and Espérance go through to the semi-finals with two victories, the Tunisian club would overtake their South African rivals in the rankings and therefore be guaranteed qualification.

The third quarter-final features five-time champions Tout Puissant Mazembe (COD) against Atlético Petróleas Luanda (ANG), two sides who can only qualify by winning the competition (30 March and 6 April). Similarly, Simba Sports Club (TAZ), who face Al Ahly (29 March and 5 April), must win the competition to qualify. The action resumes on 9 April in Europe where five-time European champions Barcelona must eliminate Paris Saint-Germain FC (FRA) in their quarter-final to keep alive their chances of qualifying, either via the rankings or as this season's Champions League winners. If Xavi's side lose the tie, then Atlético Madrid will guarantee their place via the ranking pathway regardless of how they fare against BV Borussia 09 Dortmund (GER). Similarly, FC Salzburg will book their place if Arsenal FC (ENG) – who can only qualify as champions – are knocked out by FC Bayern München (GER).

atletico madrid usa tour 2023

In Asia, one place is still open for the winners of the 2023-2024 AFC Champions League and one via the ranking pathway. Ulsan will be guaranteed a FIFA Club World Cup 2025 berth at the expense of their compatriots Jeonbuk Motors FC (KOR) should they secure one more win - or two draws - in this season’s competition, or progress to the final. The Tigers face Yokohama F. Marinos (JPN) on 17 and 24 April with Harry Kewell’s F. Marinos side knowing that they can only qualify for next year’s tournament in the United States by winning the AFC Champions League for the first time. In the other semi-final (16 and 23 April), Al Ain FC (UAE) host four-time winners Al Hilal (KSA), who have already qualified as champions of the 2021 edition. Should the Saudi side win a fifth title, the two Korean clubs leading the rankings list, Ulsan and Jeonbuk, will join them in the United States. Additionally, if Al Hilal and Ulsan both advance to the final, Jeonbuk’s place at the global tournament will be secure.

atletico madrid usa tour 2023

Mexican and U.S. clubs are dominating the race to claim the fourth and final Concacaf place which will go to the winners of the 2024 Concacaf Champions Cup. This has reached the quarter-final stage with the first legs on 2-3 April and the returns on 9-10 April.

Lionel Messi’s Club Internacional de Fútbol Miami (USA) are among the contenders and face CF Monterrey (MEX), who are already qualified as 2021 champions. Should Rayados add to their five titles, they will open up a place for the top side in the rankings which would be either Philadelphia Union (USA) or Columbus Crew (USA), with the former holding a considerable advantage.

atletico madrid usa tour 2023

There are two more ties between Mexican and US clubs – Club América (MEX) against New England Revolution (USA) and Tigres UANL (MEX) against Columbus Crew. Costa Rican side CS Herediano (CRC), the only club from outside the USA and Mexico still in the running, face CF Pachuca (MEX).

The group stage of the CONMEBOL Libertadores 2024 starts on 2 April, with three of the six places in South America still up for grabs – one for this year’s winners and two via the ranking pathway. The final is scheduled for Buenos Aires on 30 November.
