Tours to the Holy Land: Trips & Israel Tour Packages 2024, 2025

"Every place we visited was breathtakingly beautiful, with stunning landscapes and rich historical and cultural heritage. We highly recommend visiting Israel to anyone who wants to experience an unforgettable journey. We had a life-changing time there and are already planning to return." Simon L. and Beatriz G. – Tour to Israel/Egypt/Jordan February 2024 "I had a wonderful time in Israel. I felt while I was there the precautions that were taken for our safety were well in hand. I still got to experience many holy sites and be blessed by walking the path that Jesus walked. Every day was started in prayer, singing, or scripture reading which also extended the blessing of the trip." Quincie L. – Tour to Israel/Egypt/Jordan February 2024

Our Israel tours & Holy Land tours of 9-24 days for the Evangelical Protestant Bible believer are what Pilgrim Tours does best. Prepare yourself for a life-changing journey to walk where Jesus walked and visit Jerusalem, Galilee, & Samaria. Each of our Israel tours is led by a local guide who is an experienced expert on the historical, cultural, scenic, and spiritual history of the Holy Land. If you travel with 10 or more people, a private group tour can easily be arranged. Pilgrim Tours can customize an itinerary to fit your group needs with many options to choose from.

Concerned about safety? As a Christian tour operator, the staff at Pilgrim Tours takes a Biblical perspective regarding the current situation in the Middle East. We do not believe that peace in Israel is something that will occur until the Prince of Peace comes to restore His kingdom. Please do not make a reservation with us based on the hopes of a calm future. If you long for the special blessings only available in Israel, we will take you there. An expert driver and guide will carefully keep you from any areas that could present a problem and treat you to the riches of Israel as our special guest.

Featured Sites in Israel

The city of Jerusalem offers a unique convergence of Judaism, Christianity and the Muslim faith. For Christians who visit Jerusalem, you will learn about many stories of the Bible while walking her streets. Many actors in the Bible such as Abraham, King David, King Solomon, the twelve disciples and Jesus all lived, visited, or spent time there. The Passion week of Christ will be highlighted during our stay as we visit the Mount of Olives, the Garden of Gethsemane, the Western Wall, the Way of Suffering and the Garden Tomb.

Sea of Galilee

Nowhere in Israel does the Bible come to life more than along the shores of the Sea of Galilee. Pilgrims who visit the Galilee region will have opportunity to imagine what life was like 2,000 years ago and what Jesus and the twelve disciples experienced while fishing on the Sea of Galilee. The peaceful setting and the natural wonders of the Golan Heights to the east and Mt. Arbel to the west make for a great way to start your morning in quiet reflection. During our tour, we will explore the Biblical towns of Capernaum, Magdala, Nazareth and take a meaningful cruise on the Sea of Galilee.

The Dead Sea is not only the lowest & most lifeless lake in the world, but also nearly 10% saltier than the ocean. Travelers will enjoy the beautiful colors of the blue water and the red mountains of Jordan to the east. Take time to enjoy a once in a lifetime Dead Sea “float” either in the sea itself or at one of the warm salt water pools at our hotel. The Dead Sea experience is truly a bucket list visit you won’t want to miss!

Garden Tomb

Our visit to the Garden Tomb and its surrounding gardens is normally one of the highlights of our tour to Israel. The Garden Tomb is a rock-cut tomb in Jerusalem that was unearthed in 1867 and is considered, by some Protestants, to be the site of the burial and resurrection of Jesus. Our visit offers a unique time of prayer, reflection, communion, and praise which will be a special life-long memory for many travelers.

Jordan River Baptism Site

The Jordan River Baptist Site or “Yardenit” is a baptism site located along the Jordan River just south of the Sea of Galilee in northern Israel. This site is frequented by Christian Pilgrims who enjoy imagining the setting of the baptism of Jesus. For anyone who would like to be baptized in the Jordan River, Yardenit has been developed to be a peaceful setting with beautiful gardens, clean colored water, changing facilities, showers and a nice souvenir shop.

Caesarea Philippi

To many Pilgrim travelers, Caesarea Philippi is a special surprise while on their tour. Located along the rushing springs of Mt. Hermon, the beautiful and natural setting is where Jesus asked his disciples “Who do men say that I am?” He asked this question while observing the pagan worship of the god Pan as worshipers offered their sacrifice at the “Gates of Hell”. Our time at Caesarea Philippi is one of many opportunities throughout our tour to see the lessons and message of the Bible come to light in a special way.

Frequently Asked Questions

What passport & visa information do I need for your Israel tours?

The US Dollar is widely accepted across Israel and we suggest bringing about $25 for each day you’ll be on tour. U.S. dollars are recommended for use for small purchases and lunches. Lunches typically cost $10-15. It is important to bring about 20 - $1 bills as some bathrooms charge a small fee for use. Credit cards may also be used for larger purchases. Please notify your bank before traveling overseas.

The time zone for Israel is seven hours ahead of EST and two hours ahead of GMT.

What climate should I expect during your Israel tours?

In Israel the climate is temperate, and temperatures all year round are reasonable. Israel has two main seasons: Winter (from November to March) is cold and rainy in most parts of the country; summer (from April to October) is hot and dry with little or no rainfall. The desert areas can be extremely hot in summer time. The best time to visit is March-June or October-November, although climate shouldn't be a major consideration in choosing a time to visit.

We will then continue on to Haifa, where we will ascend Mt. Carmel for a panoramic view of the city and the Bay of Haifa. We will also visit Muhraka, where Elijah fought the false prophets of Baal.

Our next stop will be in Akko, also known as Acre. Here, we will see the underground passages and secret rooms, as well as the prison.

In the afternoon/evening, we will drive through the Pastoral Hills of Galilee to our hotel for check-in. Dinner will be served at the hotel, and we will spend the night in the Galilee region.

The day will start with a short tour of Tiberius, including a boat cruise on the Sea of Galilee in a Jesus boat replica. You will also visit Capernaum, the center of Jesus’ Galilean ministry and the site of many of his miracles, and the remains of a 2nd-century synagogue.

Next, you will visit Tabgha, the site of the Loaves and Fishes, including the Church of the Multipication, with a 4th-century mosaic floor. You will then head to the Mount of Beatitudes, where Jesus delivered the Sermon on the Mount, and Banias Springs and Caesarea Philippi, one of the sources of the River Jordan and the place where Peter made the confession of faith in Christ.

After a relaxing dinner at your hotel, you will have the evening at leisure. You will spend the night in the Galilee region.

Wednesday, Day 4: Nazareth, Beit Shean

Start your day with a delicious breakfast at the hotel, before setting out on a full day of sightseeing in Israel. Your first stop is the site of Jesus’ first miracle, the Cana of Galilee, where he turned water into wine (John 2:1).

Next, visit the boyhood home of Jesus in Nazareth and see the Grotto of the Annunciation and the Church of St. Joseph, which are built over the traditional site where Mary and Joseph lived. You’ll also visit the location of the ancient City Well, where it is believed that the Angel Gabriel appeared to Mary.

After lunch, head to Yardenit, a Baptismal site in the Jordan River where you can be baptized if you choose. Afterward, visit the newly excavated and ongoing archaeological site of Beit Shean, where you’ll see the amphitheater, colonnaded Roman streets, mosaics, and Roman bathhouses (1st Samuel 31:10).

As the day comes to a close, take a drive through the Jordan Valley and see the desert bloom with flowers and vegetation, as prophesied by Isaiah in chapter 35:1-2.

After arriving in Jerusalem in the afternoon, check in to your hotel and enjoy a relaxing dinner. You may want to take a leisurely stroll through the streets of Jerusalem before retiring for the night. Overnight in Jerusalem.

You will also visit the Upper Room, the site of Jesus’ last Passover meal, and the Jewish Quarter, a southeastern sector of the Old City with a restored marketplace called the Cardo.

Other notable sites on this day include the Western Wall, a holy place for Jews and the last remaining structure of the Second Temple, and the Via Dolorosa, also known as the Stations of the Cross or the Way of the Cross, which marks the route Jesus took to his crucifixion. You will also visit the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, believed by many Catholics and Orthodox Christians to be the site of Jesus’ crucifixion and resurrection, and the Garden Tomb, a similar site revered by many Evangelical Christians.

After a full day of sightseeing, you will return to the hotel for the evening at leisure, with dinner provided. You will spend the night in Jerusalem.

Saturday, Day 7: Massada and the Dead Sea area

Today, we will begin with an early breakfast at our hotel before setting out on a journey south toward the Dead Sea. As we approach the shores, we will descend to the lowest point on Earth – 1305 feet (398m) below sea level. Our first stop will be at Qumran, where the Dead Sea Scrolls were famously discovered by a young shepherd boy. Next, we will ascend by cable car to the mountaintop plateau of Masada, where the Jewish Zealots bravely fought against the Romans. The Zealots preferred death as free men over Roman slavery and torture and held out for three years against Flavius Silva’s legions.

After exploring these historical sites, we will make our way to the Dead Sea itself – a unique body of water with a salt content of 11%-13% and other natural ingredients. Weather permitting, we will float on the Dead Sea and cover ourselves in its therapeutic mud. In the afternoon and evening, we will return to our hotel in Jerusalem for dinner and an overnight stay.

Naomi and Naamah Feliciano

Eyal for the past 6/7 years you have been handling my visits to Israel. I don’t know how you do it but every time your tours surpass the previous ones.

This one was no different! It totally surpassed the previous ones. My family’s first time in Israel was an incredible once in a lifetime experience thanks to your expertise in putting the tour together to accommodate each and everyone’s needs and desires.

There was excitement for my young grandchildren as there were things geared just for their age and desires. My family toured all of Israel for first time and missed out on nothing. Yet my daughter and I who had been there 4 times already found things never seen in our previous trips.

Your choice of guide all these years was the perfect one! Hillel made your efforts in putting everything together a total success. Looking forward to our next trip.

Thank you so much to your staff and guide Hillel for another awesome experience in Israel.

Beth Fisher

I apologize for the delay in my response. Thank you so much for the wonderful trip to Israel. I appreciate all your hard work in getting everything together. Our guides were great, knowledgeable and very accommodating. The hotels were conveniently located, comfortable and nicely furnished. Everything ran smoothly.

To walk in the Holy Land, to experience “the Fifth Gospel” of pilgrimage, to meet and engage with the local people, the “living stones” of the Holy Land… is far more than an inspiring tour. It is a rite of passage in one’s faith journey that will define life before and after. The tour programs of Holy Land Trust began nearly 20 years ago with a historic retracing of the “Journey of the Magi” from Iraq to Bethlehem, and have carried the same mark of authentic, individual and purpose-made pilgrimages for people of all faiths ever since.

Our Pilgrimage programs range from open-brochure bookings to custom-made experiences for faith communities, small groups, and families, couples, and individuals. Each program offers a unique experience designed for the specific needs of the pilgrims or pilgrims. Members of every faith, denomination, and confession are welcome to join us, based on their needs, interests, length of time, and price range.

Customizable Experiences

As new historical discoveries emerge in the Holy Land, as the social landscape changes in your own communities back home, Holy Land Trust ensures that each tour is updated to reflect the most pressing issues of your group. We spend as much time as it takes to ensure we are building just the right package for you.

The life and times of Jesus, while short, was expansive, rich, and diverse. From his time in the Galilee to his final days in Jerusalem, this tour covers a lot of ground. We unpack the history of Christianity in the Holy Land and firmly place in the larger regional context while making the intimate connections to personal spiritual growth.

As it is in any country, there is a multitude of different perspectives on the life of Christ. The Palestinian Christian community is not a homogenous unit, but rather a rich culture that has sprung to life from their own unique history and theological underpinnings. Exploring the rich tapestry of the local Christian Palestinian communities will prove to be an enlightening experience.

While this tour is specifically about the spiritual dimensions of this land, it is impossible to separate the Christian communities, their culture, and history from the political dynamics of this land. While it isn’t heavily integrated into the program, there is always open space for you to dig deeper into these urgent questions.

Local relationships

One of the unique features of our program is our integrative “homestay” approach to long-term living here. Over the course of your time here in the Holy Land, we house you with local families, so you have space where authentic, and long-lasting relationships can be fostered into a commitment to pursuing justice. Our experience has been, that is through these homestays and the friendly and intimate environment that it provides, it creates a situation where stories that otherwise might not be shared are opened up. It gives you a deeper insight into how the average Palestinian experiences and navigates life in this matrix of complexities and contradictions. While the homestay is optional, they are always highly recommended.

What to expect after your Christian Pilgrimage?

For many Christians, a pilgrimage to the Holy Land is a life-changing and an affirmation of their faith journey. These tours bring to the surface important theological considerations and new questions about how the life of Christ applies to the individual. It opens up altogether different understandings of the Bible by giving you a physical context to play the stories and homilies in.

Explore all the essential geographical areas of the life of Christ: Jerusalem, Bethlehem, the Galilee. Meet the longest living Christian communities in the world and explore how the histography of Jesus has remained at the heart of families for thousands of years. Not to be taken lightly, the Palestinian cuisine is something of an experience all unto itself – particularly home-cooked meals!

From Past Trips...

christian tours to the holy land

My time spent there was perhaps the most influential thing I’ve ever done, it has greatly ignited my passion for social justice and encouraged me to advocate for the ‪injustice of this conflict as much as I can.

The tour went very smoothly. Adjustments were made appropriately to itineraries due to traffic conditions or time constraints, transport was comfortable and efficient, the guides were all informative and (mostly!) sensitive and the hotels looked after us well. We all enjoyed the food!

The most amazing thing is how the Palestinians have retained their amazing spirit! I felt so welcomed by everyone I spoke with and met while at PSE. By the end of my time in Palestine, I had a new family that I loved... many new friends from around the world... and I am happy to let you know I consider  ‪ Palestine my other home. Inshallah"

My own Christian faith has been deepened from my experience. I have more hope for the region from having met so many incredible people.

This program gives you a truly extensive immersion experience across The Holy Land. The community projects, the family visits, and access to policymakers sets this program apart from all the rest.

From a group of individuals, with varying motivation, we left as friends, not only with each other but with the people we met along the way and felt united as a group, bound by the shared and varied experiences which Holy Land Trust had given us. It was exhausting and amazing in equal measure, but above all, a once in a lifetime experience.

And Jesus entered into Jerusalem, and into the temple : and when he had looked round about upon all things, and now the eventide was come, he went out unto Bethany with the twelve. Mark 11:11
And he brought him to Jerusalem, and set him on a pinnacle of the temple, and said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down from hence: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone. Summertime is a great time

christian tours to the holy land

If you have already come to the Holy Land, you did it probably between October and May. Yes, most of the groups and individual pilgrims and tourists come here in this period. The main reason is the weather. If you come from Europe or from the North America, your visit to Israel and Palestine during the winter will be a nice change – from grey winter mood and frost to sunshine and pleasant temperaatures.

Well, it is true. However you can find yourself covered with snow even in Jerusalem and Bethlehem!

christian tours to the holy land

Many people say: “I am not planning to come to the Holy Land in the summer, because it is too hot there”. That is why June, July, and August are the low season here. But if you decide to plan you pilgrimage for the summer months, you will soon realize, that it is not at all a bad idea!

First of all, the temperatures are not really higher than in Greece, Italy, or Spain. In fact, you feel better here, because of lower humidity. Especially the holy cities of Jerusalem and Bethlehem, that are located on relatively high altitude (approx. 850 m / 2780 ft above the sea level). This location offers you hot days and fresh and cool evenings and nights.

Another factor is the number of pilgrims. If you come here in summer, you will not be surrounded by crowds. You will not lose your time waiting in long lines to visit the holy places.

Last but not least, our partner hotels offer lower prices for the summer months. So you can get a better price for your group.

Summer is a very convenient period for visiting the Holy Land. Just remember to drink a lot of water, put a hat on your head, and use the sun screen. For the rest, we will take care of you!

christian tours to the holy land

It is not required to present a negative result on a COVID-19 test before boarding a flight to Israel, a cruise to Israel or before arriving to Israel at a land border crossing. The PCR testing mandate for those entering Israel at airports and maritime and land border crossings was lifted, and the isolation required until that test result was also canceled. If you were confirmed with COVID and have not yet recovered according to the required protocol in Israel and in the state from which the flight departs – do not board the flight.

Tourism Returning to Israel?

christian tours to the holy land

After many month of sadness, grief, and incertitude, we have just received the following message. It gives us a new hope for the future! We pray that it may become true, so tat we may meet you all soon in the Holy Land!

Israeli authorities have begun early planning toward the resumption of incoming tourism to Israel by Mid December 2020. The information we can share with you today is a bright point of hope following eight months of severe travel restriction. Please remember that these points reflect only the early planning stages, and future travel easing will have to be approved by the appropriate authorities before full implementation is announced.

  • Together with the opening of Israeli hotels on December 15, 2020, the government is considering allowing the entrance of tour groups from “green nations.”
  • Groups (of no more than 30 participants) have to be pre-authorized by the Ministry of Immigration and Health Ministry.
  • All group members must carry a valid Health Insurance Policy that includes Coronavirus treatment.
  • All group members must carry proof of a negative PCR test result.
  • Each group will be assigned their dedicated Guide and Driver who will stay with the group full time from arrival to departure. The Guide and Driver will be PCR tested before the group’s arrival, and will not return to their homes until the group’s departure.
  • During the tour, the group will remain in a “capsule mode” during site seeing and shopping, while using only their designated bus and assigned seating area in the dining halls or restaurants.
  • Pre-approval information that will be submitted to the Israeli authorities will include: Travelers’ information, Foreign Agent’s information, Israeli Agent’s information, and contact person per group, proof of Health Insurance, Detailed itinerary, including hotels and site visits and Names of dedicated Guide and Driver. Again, these are GOOD NEWS indeed, and we will continue to update you as the new rules firm up and as specific guidelines are finalized. Please do not hesitate to call our office with any questions you might have as we are standing by to assist you to make plans for your future groups to Israel.

Mount Tabor

christian tours to the holy land

On the 6th of August the Catholics celebrate the feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord. The place of the Transfiguration is traditionally located on the Mount Tabor.

The localization of the Transfiguration fluctuated at the beginning of the Byzantine period. Eusebius (d. 340) hesitates between Tabor and Mount Hermon, while the Pilgrim of Bordeaux (333) places it on the Mount of Olives. In 348 Cyril of Jerusalem decided on Tabor, and the support of Epiphanius and Jerome established the tradition firmly. The date of the first religious constructions is uncertain. The anonymous pilgrim of Piacenza saw three basilicas in 570. Willibaldus in 723, on the contrary, mentions only one church dedicated to Jesus, Moses, and Elijah. The contradiction disappears if we assume three chapels architecturally linked, as in the present building. Jerome Murphy-O’Connor, The Holy Land : an Oxford archaeological guide from earliest times to 1700 . Oxford University Press, 2008.

Three canonical Gospels give us an account about the event. Let us read the text written by Saint Luke:

Luke, chapter 9: 28 Now about eight days after these sayings Jesus took with him Peter and John and James, and went up on the mountain to pray. 29 And while he was praying, the appearance of his face changed, and his clothes became dazzling white. 30 Suddenly they saw two men, Moses and Elijah, talking to him. 31 They appeared in glory and were speaking of his departure, which he was about to accomplish at Jerusalem. 32 Now Peter and his companions were weighed down with sleep; but since they had stayed awake, they saw his glory and the two men who stood with him. 33 Just as they were leaving him, Peter said to Jesus, “Master, it is good for us to be here; let us make three dwellings, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah”—not knowing what he said. 34 While he was saying this, a cloud came and overshadowed them; and they were terrified as they entered the cloud. 35 Then from the cloud came a voice that said, “This is my Son, my Chosen; listen to him!” 36 When the voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone. And they kept silent and in those days told no one any of the things they had seen. New Revised Standard Version

christian tours to the holy land

We all suffer because of the global pandemic. All the travels had been cancelled. We have stayed at home. The streets of our cities and villages became empty.

The Holy Places were closed for many weeks as well. The Nativity Grotto in Bethlehem and the Holy Tomb in Jerusalem were not accessible for the faithful. Only the priests and monks who lived in the shrines continued to celebrate their liturgies.

These days many churches in the Holy Land are open, but only a handful of people come to pray there. The empty Tomb of Jesus is really empty, which is an unusual view for our pilgrims, who saw it full of multilingual crowds.

We pray that we may see you all soon in the shrines of Jerusalem, Bethlehem, and Galilee. We wait for you!

  • Explore the Mount of Beatitudes, a hill believed to be the site of Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount.
  • In the afternoon, visit Banias Springs and Caesarea Philippi, two sites located in the Golan Heights.

  • Continue to Yardenit, a baptismal site located on the Jordan River. This site is popular with Christian pilgrims and is believed to be the location where Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist.

  • After the tour, drive through the Jordan Valley and arrive in Jerusalem. Check-in to your hotel in the city and enjoy dinner. Spend the night in Jerusalem.

Thursday, Day 5: Jerusalem: The Old City

  • To start the day, take a tour of the Old City of Jerusalem, a historic walled city home to many significant religious sites.
  • During the tour, visit the Western Wall, a highly revered retaining wall of the Temple Mount; the Via Dolorosa, a street marking the traditional route of Jesus’ walk to his crucifixion; and the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, a church marking the traditional site of Jesus’ burial and resurrection.
  • In the afternoon, visit the Garden Tomb, a site outside the Old City believed by some to be the site of Jesus’ burial and resurrection.
  • End the day with a visit to the Israel Museum, featuring a model of ancient Jerusalem and the Shrine of the Book, housing the Dead Sea Scrolls.

Friday, Day 6: Jerusalem: New City and Bethlehem

  • Start the day with a visit to Bethlehem, a city located in the West Bank that is known as the birthplace of Jesus. During the tour, visit the Church of the Nativity, a church that marks the traditional site of Jesus’ birthplace, and Shepherd’s Field, a site that is associated with the story of the shepherds who visited Jesus after his birth.
  • In the afternoon, visit the Dead Sea, a salt lake that is located between Israel and Jordan. The Dead Sea is known for its high salt concentration, which allows visitors to float on the surface of the water.
  • Return to Jerusalem for dinner and spend the night in the city.

Saturday, Day 7: Masada and the Dead Sea

  • Start the day with an early breakfast at the hotel.
  • Set out on a journey south toward the Dead Sea.
  • As you approach the shores, descend to the lowest point on Earth, 1305 feet (398m) below sea level.
  • Make your first stop at Qumran, the site where the Dead Sea Scrolls were famously discovered.
  • Next, ascend by cable car to the mountaintop plateau of Masada, where the Jewish Zealots fought against the Romans in the 1st century AD.
  • After exploring these historical sites, visit the Dead Sea, a unique body of water with a salt content of 11%-13% and other natural ingredients. Weather permitting, float on the Dead Sea and cover yourselves in its therapeutic mud.

WHAT OUR ESTEEMED CLIENTS SAY ABOUT US

It is always a pleasure working with you and your team. You guys understand the importance of selecting the sites and details including selecting the right Christian guides in order for the Bible to come alive.  You have trained your guides to know exactly how to work in tandem with pastors and allow the time to teach at sites. As far as pricing goes, we feel as though we got a 13 day trip for the price of a 10 day tour. For me the highlight was when you arrived in Jerusalem for our farewell dinner and shook my hand. That truly made me believe that you really knew what “customer service” meant and went the extra mile to make us feel special. We’re ready to book our next trip!  Next year in Israel!

Thank you so much for making our trip possible in spite of all of the challenges we faced.   I recall, when the war in Israel started it was three weeks before departure. All our folks thought we would lose all our money because no one would go to Israel with rockets flying.  Insurance companies would not  pay out anything because war is not covered.  Two weeks later you emailed us and changed the dates to three months out at no added cost. Wow! That was the workings of a true Christian!  You could have charged us more to go two months later. But you did not and that’s a God fearing Christian right there. Friendship Tours, your travel ministry,  has my business for as along as I can travel.

Friendship Tours has been my only travel provider for three decades. From the Bible lands to Europe and the Reformation sites, they have always given me excellent service at the right price. I have always felt safe and satisfied. Their on the ground support has always made you know that every need will be covered. They are an industry leader you can trust.

Good Friday Collection ‘helps Christians remain in Holy Land’

By Sr. Francine-Marie Cooper

In a letter addressed to the bishops around the world, the Prefect of the Dicastery for the Eastern Churches, Cardinal Claudio Gugerotti, said many pilgrims today remain far from the city of their dreams, while the inhabitants of the Holy Land continue to suffer and die.

The Cardinal said that pilgrimages to the Holy Land have a history as old as Christianity itself.

For hundreds of years, pilgrimages were made possible “by the generous work of the Franciscans of the Custody of the Holy Land and the Eastern Churches present there,” he added.

The Cardinal Prefect recalled that, throughout the centuries, “the Church has continuously and passionately cultivated solidarity with the Church of Jerusalem.”

Since the late medieval era, the Popes have promoted and regulated a yearly collection for the Holy Land.

Cardinal Gugerotti emphasized that it is an obligation for the faithful to contribute to the Pontifical Collection for the Holy Land and hopes for particular generosity this year.

Solidarity with Christians in the Holy Land

Apart from the Holy Land being the place where Jesus lived and worked, there are also Christians living and operating there amid many difficulties and tragedies, he added.

The Prefect honoured those, who, over the centuries, have died as martyrs so as not to see their Christian roots cut off, saying “their Churches are an integral part of the history and culture of the East.”

Cardinal Gugerotti expressed his regret that today many flee their country and “abandon the places where their fathers and mothers prayed and witnessed to the Gospel.”

The Prefect warned of the dangers that face refugees who flee the Holy Land and go to the West, where the culture is very different. He asked for help to support the local Churches in finding new ways, opportunities for housing, work and educational and professional training so that local people can stay in their country.

The Cardinal emphasized that if these people leave their small businesses serving pilgrims who no longer come to Jerusalem and Palestine, the East will lose part of its soul, perhaps forever.

He called out to Catholics around the world: “Make them feel the solidarity of the Church!”

Pope Francis thanks for generosity

Cardinal Gugerotti concluded by expressing “Pope Francis’ gratitude to the local Churches, to the Franciscans, to the many charity volunteers, true children of peace, witnesses of the Prince of Peace,” and also to all who pray for and make a contribution for the Holy Land.

Holy Land tour guide visits Tuscaloosa

T USCALOOSA, Ala. ( WBRC ) - The Holy Land in Israel has largely been closed off to visitors because of the war between Israel and Hamas, but that’s not keeping an Israeli from spreading the Christian message.

George Stephan is in Tuscaloosa for a few days. Stephan started his ministry 23 years ago, but because of the lock-down in Israel, Stephan is taking his message about the Gospel to pilgrims he’s known during his days as a tour guide in the Holy Land.

Stephan gave a presentation to parishioners at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church Tuesday night. More than 80 parishioners attended and tuned in to hear Stephan’s presentation.

“I always concentrate on the Book of John because he was the closest witness. We see the Holy Land through the eyes of John literally speaking. We be walking of course in the land in the eyes of the disciple John. Of course, there is a lockdown in Israel and in Palestine, so there are no tourists or pilgrims who come to the land over there so I decided to spread the Word to people I know, pilgrims who were with me,” said Stephan.

Stephan says he’s in Tuscaloosa until March 26 and then he’ll head to Texas.
