Live reviews

I went to her show in Boston, 2018. The show was great, I really liked her performance, however, my brother who was with me at the time noted that she was singing along to her own vocals with her song, so it wasn’t just the instrumental. For me, the wait in the venue was really a downside. The doors opened at 7, nothing happened until 8, the opening act started and ended at 8:30, and then we waited for another 30-40 minutes. My brother even told me when it was 9 that if she hadn’t come out by 9:30, we’d just leave. Hearing that after waiting four hours before even getting in made me sad. The concert was great though, but the worst part of it for me was the people in front of me. I know it isn’t billie’s fault herself, but I felt that maybe I should say this as a review of my experience. There was a girl beside me who kept glancing at me every two seconds on purpose as if I was doing something wrong!! I don’t know if it was because of my coat (which I couldn’t do anything about, everyone was cramped together anyways, but she was so annoying and aggravating!!!! I was honestly about to tell her something, and my brother noticed too. The fans around me were kind of rude, like going into a space for handicapped people, and pushing against people who were handicapped. But beyond that, maybe if I was actually able to see the show and not have to look through the cracks of two heads, I would have enjoyed it so so much more. So if you’re short and there’s no seats at the venue, I suggest you get there really really early! 4 hours wasn’t enough for me, but it depends.

Seeing Billie Eilish in concert was a great pleasure !

The energy that she gives to the audience is crazy, the control she has on her voice, her dance moves, the musicians with her and her being so young are all the facts that make her concerts amazing.

She is close to her public and really owns the stage, I honestly think she is going to do very great in the music industry if she goes on like this.

The public that attends her concerts is also quite young, problably in a range from 15 to 25. As for the kind of music she makes, I am really not a specialist but if I had to describe it, I would definitely use the words "chill", "confidence", "energy" and "f*ckyou".

As a plus : I personnaly love the fact that she writes and plays with her brother, I think they have such a special bond, it's nice to see them together !

My point of view is really altered beacause I love everything about her, but still, I think you have to see this all by yourself ;)

The Billie Eilish WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP WHERE DO WE GO show was the best night of my life. It was super rainy before the show started and there was a severe weather warning throughout the opener, Denzel Curry. A lot of people left and took shelter, but since it was GA, my group and I stayed put. Denzel was an absolutely AMAZING opener, and he had SOO much energy. His songs were amazing, especially Clout Cobain, my current favorite song ever, other than Billie’s songs. After the opener, there was songs blasting through the speakers, such as Ariana Grande, and Sam Smith. I’m pretty sure Billie picked these songs and that were a great way to get ready for her. It began to get really dark in the sky, and the rain stopped. It was time for the show. There were lights and they turned off and her intro started playing. The show started and she had so much energy and she was so happy. The concert was insane.

It was the best show. Really. If you have any chance to see her take it . The energyyyy. I can’t even describe it. I can still feel it when I think about the show . And she was sooo cute I love her. She got emotional and cried a bit and she thanked us and said that we are the reason that she is living a dream she was so sweet. And for all the songs she was hyped and the whole arena was jumping, screaming, singing just enjoying the show. And when she sang the last song she left and we were all screaming and clapping and screaming Billie because we didn’t want it to end . And then she got back and bad guy went on again and let me tell you that shit was craaazyy. We all gave everything to the song and it was epic . Really , really amazing and I wish I could go again and again on every single show there is. I love her so much ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️. Epic.

I absolutely loved this show!! The way the theater was built, every seat had a great view and it wasn’t too far from the stage. I loved the show very very much. Billie’s graphics and the way she uses her props are amazing, ESPECIALLY the videos and the way she incorporates them into her lyrics. And the way her and her brother (Finneas o’connell) get along are adorable. She talks to the audience enough to get them hyped up for the next song! Billie sadly sprung her foot a few days before the show, but that didn’t stop her from doing ANYTHING, she was a trooper and kept the show going and exciting. Absolutely loved it and so did my family & friends, billie is such an awesome person and i’m so glad i got to go. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE go to her concert if you can, you will NOT regret it. <3<3<3<3<3<3<3

I am a 51 year old Mother of a 15 year old daughter. This was her first concert and she brought a friend. I wasnt that familiar with Billie Eillish but found her to be crazy talented. Her show was filled with amazing theatrics. The relationship between her and her brother Is so sweet. Great Show! Not usually a fan of rap but also enjoyed Denzel Curry. Denzel was nice enough to stop the show when an audience member fainted. At that point he saiid he wanted everyone to have fun but to be safe. He had his crew pass out cold bottled water to as many people as they could. Next time Billie comes to KC, I bet she can fill a bigger auditorium such as Sprint Center. Overall a great experience and a memory for my daughter that she got to see her idol!

Billie Eilish was outstanding! It was one of the best nights ever! Her performance was perfect and vocals on point. I was crying my eyes out! The only problem was the General Admission sections. At first it didn’t seem too bad when we were waiting for Billie but, it so much worse. Everybody from the back started pushing and pushing us. I got bruises on both my arms. I understand that it’s General Admission but there certainly was no need to push. I even saw girls my age (12) getting pushed and trampled. It was horrific. Other than all that, Billie was absolutely the best. If you want to go to her concert, I suggest you spend a little more money on VIP tickets and ensure the best view (and you also won’t get pushed as much).

This was my first concert, I was kinda nervous for it to be standing crowd but OH MY GOD I CRIED! Billie was soooo amazing, I can’t even put it into words. The best part was how she told everyone to be in the moment and just live how you are, I felt so good then, she is the most pure human I’ve ever seen. The funniest part was probably when someone threw something on stage and the next thing Billie said was “that was definitely a bra”. She lit up my life, and having Denzel Curry open was so cool. They are both such woke people and it really changed how I see people that are famous, I thought most celebrities were uptight and dicks, but they were so nice! I LOVED IT SOOO MUCH!!

the billie eilish concert in slc was absolutely amazing. i have been to A LOT of awesome concerts in my life and none compare to her. she did so great. she was always dancing and moving around and the energy around her made u want to have a good time. i love how billie isn’t afraid to be herself and how she will just do whatever she wants. it was pretty crazy to be in the mosh pit because everyone just wanted to be closer to her so we were all shoving and pushing our way to the front. but overall this concert was incredible and i don’t think i will ever be able to go to a concert that out does billie eilish. thank u billie for an amazing night

Before the concert it took a little while longer to set up so the opening act had to stay out for a little longer and keep the crowd etertained. But once it got going the room imidiately lit up. The concert was very high energy and billie has such a great stage presence. Her voice live sounds amazing and her confidence was incredible. The same goes for her brother Phineas who performed with her. Both before and after the show she greeted non VIP fans who stayed late or got there early and she was really kind to them. One of the best and intimate concert experiences I’ve ever had and I hope to see her again live.

Billie Eilish on world tour with new songs in 2022

Finally back to live concerts from Billie Eilish! With the new album “Happier Than Ever” and all the big hits, the 19-year-old world star will be on tour again next Summer. There is already great excitement about what to expect on the upcoming Billie Eilish tour in 2022. With the  second album, which will be released on July 30, 2021 , an artistic era begins that Billie not only ushered in externally, but also musically.

The change can already be seen and heard  in the song “Your Power” , which was  released  at the  end of April 2021 : Melancholy guitar sounds and gloomy, billowing bass go perfectly with the vulnerable vocals and the emotional lyrics of Billie EIlish. In the video, which she directed herself, she sits with her new blonde hair in the California desert and has an anaconda snake around her body.

Billie Eilish - Your Power (Official Music Video)

The second album includes a total of  16 new songs  . In addition to “Your Power”, the tracks  “My Future” and “Therefore I Am” have already been released. The new hits will celebrate their live premiere in 2022 on the “Happer Than Ever – The World Tour”. After the last tour around the world in 2020 fell through due to the corona pandemic, there is a lot to catch up on in summer 2022.

About Billie Eilish

comscore

Billie Eilish’s last Electric Picnic appearance drew the biggest crowd in the festival’s history. But things have changed

The 21-year-old singer has certainly inherited a very irish melancholy: ‘my one wish is to not take things for granted’.

Ed Power's face

Billie Eilish is a record-breaking pop star. She’s the youngest artist to record a Bond theme, the youngest to headline the Coachella Festival in California and the youngest to headline Glastonbury. She also drew the largest ever main-stage crowd at Electric Picnic, performing in 2019 to more than 50,000.

Four years later, Eilish (21) returns to Electric Picnic to again play the main stage, on the Friday night of the festival. The Picnic is still the Picnic – but so much else has changed since 2019 . In those days of pre-pandemic innocence, the music industry had not yet looked lockdown obliteration in the eye. Nor were audiences yet in the grip of freaky Fomo: back then, the idea of paying €900 to see Coldplay in Croke Park would have struck even Coldplay as preposterous. On a glorious late August evening in Stradbally, none of the bad things in life – war, disease, TikTok, the Ticketmaster “lobby” – were on anyone’s radar.

But the most significant shift in the intervening period is in pop itself, which has become far more of a blood sport. Harry Styles has racked up his own high score this year as the first pop star since Madonna to headline Slane.

Elsewhere, Olivia Rodrigo has arguably supplanted Eilish as music’s teen queen. Ed Sheeran has had huge success with a more confessional new direction. Coldplay, indie rockers turned day-glo pop purveyors, are set to play Croke Park more often than the Dublin footballers. Taylor Swift is the ruler of all she surveys and could arguably headline the Aviva, which she has sold out for three nights, for a straight week. In terms of raw popularity, in Ireland, Swift is Garth Brooks reborn.

Where does Eilish fit in pop’s new paradigm? In July, the LA-raised artist staged a relatively low-key return with the single What Was I Made For? The wispy ballad was recorded for Greta Gerwig’s all-conquering Barbie yet seems to somehow exist outside the hype attending that film, a nuclear detonation of pink positivity and “Zen Ken” energy from Ryan Gosling.

[  Finn McRedmond: What choice did Billie Eilish have but swap sweatpants for stockings?  ]

What Was I Made For? has clocked up 19 million YouTube views in a fortnight, and it’s just a year since Eilish made history as the youngest-ever Glastonbury headliner. So it would be ridiculous to suggest she’s in danger of slipping into irrelevance. Yet a case can be made that 2023 was the year in which pop’s old(ish) guard seized back control.

The past 12 months have, as already pointed out, belonged to Harry Styles, who turned Slane, that vast bowl in the Boyne Valley, into an intimate showcase for his cheeky humour and understated ’70s-splashed repertoire. And to Taylor Swift, whose Eras tour confirms her as the Bruce Springsteen of her generation: an artist who always sounds like herself yet whose songbook contains multitudes.

If the spotlight has, to a degree, turned elsewhere, Eilish will not be devastated. Unlike many of her peers, she has long considered fame a burden rather than a perk. That, after all, was the theme of her second album, 2021′s Happier Than Ever – a record that doubled down on the feverishly baroque style of her 2019 debut, When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? while delivering the message that mega-celebrity is the mother of all bummers.

You can’t have a normal life and be famous, it just doesn’t work that way —   Billie Eilish

“It’s really hard,” she told the LA Times on the eve of the LP’s release “People that don’t have our lives have no idea how hard it is. It’s f—ing horrible.”

“Billie is so famous that people that aren’t fans of hers at all are taking photos of her while she’s walking through a park so that they can show their friend in a photo that they saw her,” her brother and musical collaborator, Finneas O’Connell, revealed to The Irish Times that same year. “Stuff like that, or paparazzi or articles, just make your life way harder.”

[  Billie Eilish: Watching pornography from the age of 11 destroyed my brain  ]

Long before joining the A-list, Eilish was wary of fame. “People do not understand what comes with it,” she said, when I interviewed her in 2018. At that point, she was still a cult artist. But her fanbase, if small, was hardcore. One afternoon she was recognised four times in 20 minutes visiting a mall near her family home in northeast Los Angeles. She was simultaneously flattered and disconcerted: was this a chilling glimpse of her future?

She was increasingly aware, too, of how detached she was from her friends: they were negotiating the average trials of adolescence; she was juggling how much of her private life to share on social media and taking meetings around tours and album release strategies. Month by month, she was ever more distant from her peers.

“You can’t have a normal life and be famous, it just doesn’t work that way,” she told me. “Unless you did something horrible and that’s why you’re famous. But if you really want to be known for something good and people look up to you – you have to work [at your craft]. That [people’s misapprehensions about fame] p****s me off so much.”

She isn’t the only singer in her position to struggle with fame. In her documentary Miss Americana, Taylor Swift flees paparazzi outside her apartment and tells director Liz Garbus she is aware such a level of attention “isn’t normal”.

In the case of Eilish, global celebrity triggered genuine existential angst. This was made clear in her own streaming doc, Apple TV+’s The World’s A Little Blurry, which features a scene where she walks out of a schmoozy meet-and-greet in New York because it’s all too much.

She has also had to run a gauntlet regarding how she presents herself. Early on, Eilish championed baggy, oversized clothing – a sensibility that quickly filtered down to mainstream fashion. But when she switched things up for Happier Than Ever, appearing on the cover of Vogue UK in an Alexander McQueen corset dress, some fans took the shift as a betrayal. A few went so far as to suggest the Vogue shoot was a “deepfake” – AI wizardry cooked up to bamboozle the unwary. It was the Gen Z version of Bob Dylan playing electric guitar.

“Is it just me or is something weird about these?” one wrote on Reddit. “I know they’re just normal pictures but it looks kinda like a deepfake to me. No hate against her or anything. I just wonder if anyone is thinking the same.” They were alarmed, too, that she had stopped swapping her hair colour – it was vivid green at Electric Picnic – and had settled on a naturalistic blonde look.

“Oh, my God! The new Billie!,” Eilish protested to the LA Times. “I wanted something that was more natural, and also, I wasn’t depressed. I felt the need to change it all the time when I was more unstable.”

Beyond merely being an entertainer, Eilish has also been a pioneering figure. She was one of the first pop stars to address the climate emergency in her music when, on her 2019 single All The Good Girls Go To Hell, she sang “Hills burn in California”. Twelve months later, during lockdown, she performed a live-stream show wearing a No Future On A Dead Planet campaign T-shirt.

“The obvious artist is Billie Eilish,” Music Declares Emergency’s Lewis Jamieson told me in 2021 in response to a question about Gen Z and their reaction to the climate crisis. He identified Eilish as a galvanising presence in terms of raising awareness about the challenges facing the environment. “Once this would have been the preserve of Sting or of educated indie bands. Now it is much more widespread and more engaged across music genres.”

In my head, I take everything that comes as if it is normal. I do my thing as if no one is watching or listening —   Billie Eilish

Eilish enjoyed playing Electric Picnic and later returning to Ireland to kick off the European leg of her tour at 3Arena in June 2022. The audience was even more ecstatic than the singer: at 3Arena, as she circulated high above the venue in a cherry picker, there was phone-waving pandemonium on a breathtaking scale. If you were there, the crowd’s screams may still be rattling around your head.

[  Billie Eilish: ‘I have a lot of stalkers, and people that want to do bad things to me’  ]

Her Irish connection runs deep. Eilish’s father, actor Patrick O’Connell, is of Irish heritage. She is named after Eilish Holton, from Donadea, Co Kildare – a conjoined twin whose story was told in the 1992 documentary Katie and Eilish: Siamese Twins (Eilish is still alive, but her sister did not survive the separation surgery).

She has certainly inherited a very Irish melancholy. When I spoke to her in 2018, Eilish wanted one thing above all else: to remember how lucky she was to have a successful career. “My one wish is to not take things for granted,” she told me. “If you think about things while you are doing them, that’s insane. It kind of messes you up. In my head, I take everything that comes as if it is normal. I do my thing as if no one is watching or listening.”

A lot more people are watching and listening today, and, given Electric Picnic has raised its capacity, there is every likelihood of Eilish drawing an even bigger main stage crowd this year than in 2019. She is a very different pop star from when she headlined the festival four years ago – savvier, perhaps a little sadder. But if she brings anything like the same dark, tumultuous energy, it will be a performance to remember.

In Pics: Billie Eilish and Niall Horan shine as Electric Picnic makes triumphant return

billie eilish tour ireland 2023

Billie Eilish and Niall Horan shone on Friday night as Electric Picnic made its triumphant return.

After a summer that has seen Ireland battered by rain for months on end, the pressure was on for the Stradbally festival to deliver the goods.

Today's top videos

Story continues below.

Any of the 70,000 people gathered in the Co Laois fields can attest that there aren’t many better ways to kick off a festival than with two of the biggest names in music.

Prior to the headline sets, and after setting up camp for the weekend, the opening hours of night one was spent soaking in a splendid variety of acts.

First up was American indie pop band MUNA. Fresh off their slot supporting Phoebe Bridger’s Boygenius on Monday in Dublin, the trio gave another reminder of why they’re the next big thing.

With a set consisting of dance bops and summer party tunes, the highlight of MUNA’s performance was when they dedicated I Know A Place to all of the ‘queer and trans lovelies’ in the crowd. After years of being behind other countries, it’s soul-fulfilling to see our nation embrace everyone at all of the county’s big events.

Declaring themselves the ‘best band in the world’ as they left the stage, they are on the path to proving themselves right if they keep their momentum going.

After heading to the main stage for a taste of the always-super Irish group King Kong Company, it was time for Wet Leg.

From touring with Harry Styles this year to repeatedly going viral on TikTok, Wet Leg had a perfect summer. Returning to Ireland after conquering Slane, the UK group’s performance felt like a victory lap. Lead singer Rhian Teasdale and her group are just going to get bigger and bigger.

Come 9pm there was only one man on everyone’s lips, Mullingar’s own Niall Horan. Following an immediate-pause due to a technical error, once Niall got going there was no stopping him.

Kicking things off with Nice To Meet Ya, the former One Direction man appeared stunned by what he admitted was the biggest crowd of his solo career to date.

However, the size of the crowd clearly didn’t phase him as he tore into his biggest hits from his first three albums.

Taking multiple moments to address the crowd to express his pride at being Irish and having a loyal legion of fans, the crowd sang along to each and every song.

In a double whammy of emotion, Niall paid tribute to the late Sinead O’Connor with Nothing Compares 2 U, leaving not a dry eye in the house. Following this with One Direction’s Story Of My Life made sure not a single tear was left unshed.

With it confirmed earlier in the day that Niall will be returning to Dublin next August for a gig in Kilmainham, you’d be crazy not to snap up tickets.

Electric Picnic bosses had the crowd feeling spoiled as after Niall smashed his set, we still had Billie Eilish to go. Billie admitted to fans earlier in the day that she was feeling ill but commendably refused to drop out last minute.

Asking the fans to go ‘crazy’ for her, Billie still managed to deliver one of the best sets this festival has ever seen. Despite being 22, Billie has a level of gravitas and crowd control that most artists would struggle to find for their entire career.

Outside of a few coughs, no one would have noticed Billie was feeling under the weather for the majority of set. Songs like Bad Guy, You Should See Me In My Crown and What Was I Made For, united everyone in a sing-along.

Halfway through the set, possibly in a move to protect her voice, Billie performed beautiful acoustic renditions of her songs with her brother Finneas by her side.

Advising everyone to close their eyes for the moment, Billie told everyone that they were loved and safe. In a world where it’s easy to get lost in the shuffle, having one of the world’s biggest acts remind you that everything is going to be alright is nothing short of special.

Finishing the evening with Happier Than Ever, Billie’s sickness managed to get the best of her as she struggled to sing the opening half of the song. However, her loyal fans helped through the moment before they joined forces to deliver the magnificent finale together.

If we’re lucky enough, Billie will visit her ‘favourite festival’ many more times in the future. Hopefully, she can bring Niall with her too!

Billie Eilish adds her Instagram followers to ‘Close Friends’, fans left shocked

Though one would like to relish this moment exclusively for oneself, it appears that the real reason behind it could be an upcoming album.

In an unexpected move, Billie Eilish added her entire Instagram followers to the “Close Friends” list. On Thursday, April 4, the Ocean Eyes singer shocked her 111 million followers on the platform by adding them to the list, giving them a closer look at her more personal Instagram stories. Shortly after getting upgraded from follower to close friend, netizens flocked to social media to share their reactions.

Though one would like to relish this moment exclusively for oneself, it appears that the real reason behind it could be an upcoming album. Upon being added to Eilish's close friends, fans received the notification for a recent story uploaded by the Ocean Eyes singer.

The picture uploaded by the You Should See Me in a Crown hitmaker appears to be a cryptic announcement for a new album. In the Instagram story, Eilish shared a picture of her hand in front of what appears to be either an underwater scene or a blue-hued night sky with stars shining.

Is Billie Eilish hinting at a new album?

Eilish previously hinted at a third studio album, saying that it had been “mastered” in February via an Instagram post. While neither a title nor a tracklist has been revealed for her supposed upcoming album, Eilish's profile and cover pictures across various social media platforms, including Instagram and X, formerly Twitter, feature a striking solid blue-coloured background.

Prior to her cryptic ‘close friends’ story, the Lovely singer also shared a picture on her general Instagram story of a question that reads, “Do you know how to bend?” written in blue across a black background.

Fans shocked after being added to Billie Eilish's ‘Close Friends’ on Instagram

Fans appeared to be amazed by Eilish's latest stint, as one wrote on X, formerly Twitter, “gonna pretend billie eilish personally put me on her close friends story list.” Another said, “opening instagram and pretending that billie eilish personally put me on her close friends list this is how I feel to be honest.” One more wrote, “my mum at my funeral: “whys billie eilish here??” me: thats my close friend.”
