Chris Botti's concert are fabulous. He is a world-class trumpeter and his band and guests artists are all world-class. Saw him in NYC January 5, 2020 his music is super, magnificent artistry. Also saw him at Cape Cod in August 2019, and in West Palm Beach last winter.

Will see him in March 29 in Broward Center for the Performing Arts and in a few other concerts this year in Mass and NYC. All have his CDs and two DVDs. A musical journal, and an experience not to be missed.

we almost stayed home. the roads in the outskirts of town still covered with ice after reacent snowfall.we heard the city streets were clearso we decided to drive.hell we,d have walked.arriveing with no probs yo find covered parking validated by Jazz Alley.well the predicted weather had been a concearn for many of Cris,s true fans, hardly anyone showed up. the MC said this evening may be one of cris,s most intimant preformances.we normally choose seatting in the front row center balcony.i know this show sold out,but so few people came that JazzAlley closed the whole 2nd floor and seat us about 12 feet from center stage, wow, we felt we had the band all to ourselves.one of my favorite things about Botti,s shows are his featured artists. supper singers and areally exciting sax player cris play along with complimenting hot riffs, simply thrilling.keyboards darren stevens lookalike must have born on a piano. violinest true perfection, note to self bring hanky. bassist play multipal stringed instruments equally well.the guitar play left us wanting more ,lots more. last and certainly not least, durms where does cris find these guys? the dummer beeing a show of his own, captivating.i,ll say it again a performance worth walking 20 miles in the snow for,so glad we went. but i,m kicking myself for not getting up to shake hands with my favorite.

Concert was fabulous. It was my third time seeing Chris Botti and every one was money well spent. As usual he brought his long and talented list of guests with him.

As for the venue, that is another matter. Parking was and expected to be difficult. It does not have any AC, it was very sticky and we were packed in tight. The issue that really "pissed" me off was they charged $5 for a bottle of water. They should have handed it out considering. The lighting crew was asleep at the switch. Several times Mr Botti had to instruct them on their duties.

I can't imagine too many summer events taking place in this "hot box". Chris Botti and Guests saved the night.

How Sting Launched the Success of Trumpet Virtuoso Chris Botti

Trumpet Virtuoso Chris Botti

When master trumpeter Chris Botti looks back on becoming America’s top-selling instrumentalist and a multi-Grammy winner, he largely attributes his success to one man: Sting. "People always ask me at the airport or during interviews, how my success happened," Botti says. "And I always tell them there are only four ingredients: Practice, practice, practice, and be friends with Sting."

Chris Botti Tour

Over the years, Chris Botti has become one of the most popular trumpet players in the jazz and pop music world. Chris knew his life’s dream was playing music after listening to Miles Davis play perform “My Funny Valentine” live from “Miles Davis – Four & More”

Before venturing out as a solo artist, Chris Botti played in Carnegie Hall as part of the McDonald’s All American High School jazz band and went on tour with Frank Sinatra, Natalie Cole, Aretha Franklin, Bette Midler and others. His time performing with musicians such as Paul Simon, Sting, Tony Bennett and Michael Bublé in & out of the studio inspired the distinct style Botti has to this very day.

Chris Botti Songs

One of the most popular songs in the Chris Botti catalog is “Emmanuel” featuring prominent violinist Lucia Micarelli. “Emmanuel” was released as part of Chris Botti in Boston, a live album released in 2009 that also features tracks such as:

  • “Broken Vow” with Josh Groban
  • “Glad to be Unhappy” with John Mayer
  • “Smile” with Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler
  • “Cinema Paradiso” with Yo-Yo Ma

The 2004 Chris Botti album When I Fall in Love (approaching 1 million units sold) had the biggest impact on his career. Not only is it a certified Gold record and is one of four #1 jazz albums, but features numerous tracks that he plays in concert including those featuring the likes of Sting, Paula Cole, and Billy Childs.

In 2012, Impressions was released, and went on to win the Grammy Award for Best Pop Instrumental Album. The album featured duets with Herbie Hancock, Andrea Bocelli and Mark Knopfler from Dire Straits.

Other Chris Botti albums of note that helped him become one of the more important and innovative figures in the contemporary music world include:

  • A Thousand Kisses featuring tracks like “Indian Summer”, “My Funny Valentine” and a cover of Burt Bacharach’s “The Look of Love”
  • To Love Again: The Duets
  • Night Sessions

Chris Botti Concert

There are a lot of different Chris Botti songs and albums that you might hear when you go to see him in concert. Between his own solo work and his collaborations with artists such as Sting, Barbra Streisand & Rod Stewart, you never know what might come out of his trumpet.

And one of the highlight events where a Chris Botti tour typically stops is the Blue Note Jazz Festival that takes place during the summer months in locales including New York City, Napa Valley and Miami Beach.

Chris’s live show features a band of 10 stellar musicians. You won’t regret your choice of attending a Chris Botti concert. If you enjoy jazz, then it would be worth your while to see the award-winning and critically acclaimed trumpeter when he comes to your local concert venue.

‘I’m getting back to where I should be’: Chris Botti headlines Fox Theater on Saturday night and is working on his first album in 10 years

Touring musicians are often described as living out of hotels. However, for more than five years, trumpet player Chris Botti literally did reside at a hotel.

“When I decided to make that move, it made total sense to me,” Botti said. “I realized that I didn’t need all of the trappings. I didn’t need the sports car or the big house with the pool. I’m on the road so much of the time, so why bother with all of that? It’s all about the music anyway.”

Botti sold his sprawling Los Angeles home and relocated to Lower Manhattan’s swank Mercer Hotel.

“I checked in in 2014 and checked out March 13, 2020,” Botti said. “That was the exact day the governor of New York shut everything down. The timing for me to move into my apartment was serendipitous since everything changed at the hotel. The people who were there, who were like my family, were fired. It was a brutal time.”

It was especially difficult for Botti, who was so used to the road. But for the first time in his 30-plus year career, he couldn’t tour.

“It’s been some strange times,” Botti said while calling from his Manhattan apartment. “I’m getting back to where I should be.”

Botti, who will perform Saturday night at Martin Woldson Theater at the Fox, is working on a new album. “It’s about time that I get back on the road.”

The studio Blue Note will play host to Botti, who is working on his first album since 2012’s “Impressions.”

“I’m going to start working on a new record in August,” Botti said. “This will be my first one for Blue Note. It’s been a long time since I made a record.”

But the suave contemporary jazz performer, who was born in Portland and adeptly crosses over into rock and pop, has enough tunes in the canon for his show at the Fox. With 10 albums in the can, Botti will be fine. Odds are classics such as Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” and Ray Noble’s “The Very Thought of You” will be rendered.

Expect an evening of top-tier musicianship since that’s what Botti’s life has been about since he came up the ranks as a session musician a generation ago. Botti learned his craft with icons who spared no expense when it came to the sonics. Botti toured extensively with Frank Sinatra, Paul Simon and Sting.

“The common denominator between those artists is that each of them could afford the most heralded musicians, and they hired them,” Botti said. “I totally get that. … With Paul Simon, he’s hiring (drummer) Steve Gadd, who is 77. He’s not out there for how he looks but how he plays.

“Steve’s out with James Taylor now because James cares how the music sounds live. Pop acts don’t care about Steve Gadd. … Drake doesn’t even have a band. He holds up a microphone and puts it out to the audience, and they sing the lyrics, and he backs a Brinks truck up to the venue and collects the money. Kudos to him.”

Botti is an old school virtuoso who learned a no-nonsense approach from his close pal, Sting. “I’ve soaked up so much from Sting,” Botti said. “Sting is (like) my big brother. I wouldn’t be in this apartment talking to you if it wasn’t for Sting. I’ll see him in a couple of days.

“Whenever I visit, he’ll be playing a guitar and have the chess board set up for us. Sting is so dedicated to his craft. I admire how he carries himself and his drive. Look, the man is 70 and has all of the accolades and money in the world, and he’s out on tour again and making music, and he just tries to get better and better. That inspires me.”

Expect a vibrant show when Botti plays the Fox with musicians playing off one another. “When you catch this show, you’ll see that connection we have as musicians,” Botti said.

“It’s alarming to me when I go to a rock concert, and I see guys who don’t even interact with each other. Sometimes, they stare straight ahead, and there’s no camaraderie. I hate watching people up there who are stiff. For me, you go out there and just let loose and have fun.”

Chris Botti makes himself at home at the Blue Note in NYC

Chris Botti

For Chris Botti, the evolution of his month-long residency at the Blue Note in New York City began almost two decades ago with one-week stints that would lengthen over the years. “It’s kind of like Gilligan’s Island, where it started out as a three-hour tour,” he explains, laughing. “It sort of blossomed into what it is now, where for the last 8 to 10 years, we’ve been doing the full month, meaning 56 shows over 28 nights.” Now in its 18 th year, the residency kicked off on December 5 and runs through the holidays until the final night of shows on January 1.

Botti says that he and the band look forward all year to this residency, but notes that being in the same venue offers some challenges as well, in part because a lot of people come to see multiple nights of their show. Their solution is not to switch up the set dramatically, but rather rely on improvisation to make each performance fresh for return listeners. “It might be the same sort of set list, but it sounds different within each song because there's so much freedom to riff and go wherever we're going,” he says. “Which is different than a popular singer who just sings the lyrics of the song and the song parts. Our stuff is much more freewheeling and that brings out a whole other aspect of improvisation and group playing, which is appealing for us too.”

He cites the example of Miles Davis, one of his heroes, as an inspiration for dealing with that challenge. “He played ‘Stella by Starlight’ a thousand times differently in 1959 than he did in 1968. It was a completely different kind of take on the song, even though it's the same sort of song. When he changes the band and they all kind of got muscular at different times, that's kind of what I try to base our live show on. If you just look at the way Miles played on Live at the Blackhawk and then in his next big residency that’s famously on tape, Live at the Plugged Nickel , you can hear how different it sounds even though they’re both Miles Davis residencies. He was a completely different cat by the time they hit the Plugged Nickel, very adventurous in a good way.” However, to be clear, Botti is not simply rehashing the same repertoire. It turns out that about half of the music during the residency has changed this year. They’ve added about seven new songs from Botti’s repertoire, as well as three or more new songs from the forthcoming album on Blue Note.

Although the slate of 56 shows in 28 nights sounds quite arduous, Botti and his band have been touring nearly non-stop since June 2021 and they aren’t looking at any real time off until a couple of weeks in March. "These are the musical equivalent of First World problems,” he says. “I mean, when you're a seven-year-old kid, you say, ‘My dream is to play music in front of a bunch of people.’ And then it happens. It’s a spectacular feeling.”

Throughout the month, Botti will feature various guests including violinist Caroline Campbell, vocalist Sy Smith and others. Blue-eyed soul singer-songwriter John Splithoff, known for his hit song “Raye,” will be appearing throughout the run and will be including some of his repertoire in the sets. In addition, Botti’s residencies have become known for surprise guests, like his former employer Sting. However, Botti was quick to remind us that Sting is not in town, so concert-goers shouldn’t expect a cameo from the charismatic singer-songwriter.

Botti says that for his part the surprise is simply who shows up in the audience. On the first night at The Blue Note, producer and keyboardist David Foster and his wife singer/actress Katharine McPhee were there. Foster produced Botti’s upcoming album on Blue Note and he gave the trumpeter one of his newest songs for the album. “If we play Chicago or San Francisco, we always roll in and play one night, maybe a couple,” he explains. “But, here, having all these shows, we get to hang with all of our friends in the music business, which is what we don't really get to do the rest of the year. It’s fun to hang after the show and see our friends and make music for them.”

Among his regular bandmates are drummer Lee Pearson and the underrated saxophonists Chad Lefkowitz Brown (also known as Chad LB) and Andy Snitzer, the latter doing three weeks and the former doing one. “They’re both beasts,” Botti says. “It's awesome to switch out the vocabulary on that instrument, because they're both such wonderful players and quite different. It’s cool for us that are up there every night to feel and hear new blood in the band.” Botti noted that although each has a very different sound, both have an affinity for Michael Brecker, with Snitzer even a graduate of the same high school (Cheltenham, outside Philadelphia) as well as an owner of one of Brecker’s saxophones.

Watch Chris Botti perform "Hallelujah" at Madeleine Albright's funeral:

Given Botti’s relentless performance schedule, the upcoming week he’ll spend on the Blue Note at Sea cruise in January may be the closest he gets to a vacation. “That’s true, it will be like a vacation,” he says. “I’m such a fan of Randy Brecker, who I know is going to be on that cruise. And then of course with Robert Glasper, Marcus Miller, Don Was and everyone else aboard, that’s going to be really fun.”

Botti hopes to have even more fun on a cruise that he’ll be hosting in 2024 called Botti at Sea , which sails the Caribbean February 8-15 and will feature Foster and McPhee, Gregory Porter, Lisa Fischer, Melody Gardot, Keb’ Mo’, and comedian Alonzo Bodden. Interestingly, Botti is particularly excited about one of the non-music acts performing on the cruise, mentalist Lior Suchard, who he thinks is going to steal the show. “It is just spectacular,” Botti says. “It’s just mind-blowing the way he reads people's minds in the most creative ways. It’s like a stunt you've never seen. Man, I don't know how he does it, but he does it. It’s mesmerizing what he does.” I’d have to think this is the first festival, on land or sea, that will feature a mentalist. Any jazz critic in attendance better watch their step.

Not someone who thought of himself as a cruise performer (few jazz musicians do initially), Botti backed into the experience after Diana Krall was booked for a special luxury jazz cruise set to sail in the Mediterranean in 2014, organized by then Entertainment Cruise Productions (now known as Jazz Cruises). Krall fell ill right before the cruise and had to cancel. Botti just happened to be rolling out of Poland at the time and he and his group joined the cruise leaving out of Barcelona. Talk about First World problems.

He says that Michael Lazaroff of Jazz Cruises had been after him to host a cruise for a long time. “I had been reluctant to do it just because I didn't know if it was my sensibility to host something,” Botti explains. “Finally they came to me this year and I said, ‘Look, I'll do it on one condition: That I can get the musicians I want,’” he explains. “We reached out to a bunch of people and basically all of them said yes. And that was the most gratifying thing. So now in the wake of how everything is reset in the world, I'm having a new outlook. I’m going into this with a real open mind and with excitement. I'm super excited to see that and to start curating for the years to come a tour that's just like an adult classy music tour, whether it leans jazz or leans sort of like elevated pop. That's my take on it, to have that balance.”

He indeed takes pride in his role as a curator. “I’m proud of the collection of musicians, and to be able to present to an audience what I think is something that will move them. For me, if it’s just a jazz cruise, then it can get a little too academic sometimes. And if it's just a pop cruise, it may not have enough high level musicianship. So if we thread that needle and have people come in and be able to feel that variety in a very high-brow sort of way, I think it could impact a lot of peoples’ desire to maybe come on cruises with us in future and tell their friends.”

Watch Chris Botti perform "You Don't Know What Love Is":

Tours, residencies and cruises aside, Botti still has to deal with one of the most unforgiving instruments in music, one that is hard to take even a day off from playing. “Yea, it's brutal. Playing the trumpet is like, I don't know, maybe being a ballet dancer or something like that. It’s similar in the fact that it's just a nonstop regimented sort of life and very isolated. And, as you get older, the trumpet doesn't get any easier. So you have to make sure that you get enough hours in a day to keep your elasticity up. But when you're on stage and have had no sleep and are flying all over the place, it's sometimes hard to keep that motivation going. But you’ve got to because the trumpet will embarrass you quite quickly on stage.”

At least Botti will be in one place during December, so he’ll have a bit more time for practice. Although he and his band will be performing right through the holiday season, he makes one thing perfectly clear. No Christmas tunes. Not one. “I felt like there are so many bands out on the road playing Christmas music, that we just decided we're not gonna do it,” Botti explains. “And we've never had one complaint about it. Not one. On Christmas Day, they all hang with the family and they come down to our show and it's packed and everyone loves it. But we don't really want to sit up there and play ‘Jingle Bells’ you know? It's more of a gathering and people totally understand that and they love it.” It probably doesn’t hurt that we’ve all been hearing holiday music in stories and public places since shortly after Halloween.

For the first time Rosatom Fuel Division supplied fresh nuclear fuel to the world’s only floating nuclear cogeneration plant in the Arctic

The fuel was supplied to the northernmost town of Russia along the Northern Sea Route.

chris botti tour 2022

The first in the history of the power plant refueling, that is, the replacement of spent nuclear fuel with fresh one, is planned to begin before 2024. The manufacturer of nuclear fuel for all Russian nuclear icebreakers, as well as the Akademik Lomonosov FNPP, is Machinery Manufacturing Plant, Joint-Stock Company (MSZ JSC), a company of Rosatom Fuel Company TVEL that is based in Elektrostal, Moscow Region.

The FNPP includes two KLT-40S reactors of the icebreaking type. Unlike convenient ground-based large reactors (that require partial replacement of fuel rods once every 12-18 months), in the case of these reactors, the refueling takes place once every few years and includes unloading of the entire reactor core and loading of fresh fuel into the reactor.

The cores of KLT-40 reactors of the Akademik Lomonosov floating power unit have a number of advantages compared to the reference ones: a cassette core was used for the first time in the history of the unit, which made it possible to increase the fuel energy resource to 3-3.5 years between refuelings, and also reduce the fuel component of the electricity cost by one and a half times. The FNPP operating experience formed the basis for the designs of reactors for nuclear icebreakers of the newest series 22220. Three such icebreakers have been launched by now.

For the first time the power units of the Akademik Lomonosov floating nuclear power plant were connected to the grid in December 2019, and put into commercial operation in May 2020. The supply of nuclear fuel from Elektrostal to Pevek and its loading into the second reactor is planned for 2024. The total power of the Akademik Lomonosov FNPP, supplied to the coastal grid of Pevek without thermal energy consumption on shore, is about 76 MW, being about 44 MW in the maximum thermal power supply mode. The FNPP generated 194 million kWh according to the results of 2023. The population of Pevek is just a little more than 4 thousand, while the FNPP has a potential for supplying electricity to a city with a population of up to 100 thousand people. After the FNPP commissioning two goals were achieved. These include first of all the replacement of the retiring capacities of the Bilibino NPP, which has been operating since 1974, as well as the Chaunskaya TPP, which has already been operating for more than 70 years. Secondly, energy is supplied to the main mining companies in western Chukotka in the Chaun-Bilibino energy hub a large ore and metal cluster, including gold mining companies and projects related to the development of the Baimsk ore zone. In September 2023, a 110 kilovolt power transmission line with a length of 490 kilometers was put into operation, connecting the towns of Pevek and Bilibino. The line increased the reliability of energy supply from the FNPP to both Bilibino consumers and mining companies, the largest of which is the Baimsky GOK. The comprehensive development of the Russian Arctic is a national strategic priority. To increase the NSR traffic is of paramount importance for accomplishment of the tasks set in the field of cargo shipping. This logistics corridor is being developed due regular freight voyages, construction of new nuclear-powered icebreakers and modernization of the relevant infrastructure. Rosatom companies are actively involved in this work. Rosatom Fuel Company TVEL (Rosatom Fuel Division) includes companies fabricating nuclear fuel, converting and enriching uranium, manufacturing gas centrifuges, conducting researches and producing designs. As the only nuclear fuel supplier to Russian NPPs, TVEL supplies fuel for a total of 75 power reactors in 15 countries, for research reactors in nine countries, as well as for propulsion reactors of the Russian nuclear fleet. Every sixth power reactor in the world runs on TVEL fuel. Rosatom Fuel Division is the world’s largest producer of enriched uranium and the leader on the global stable isotope market. The Fuel Division is actively developing new businesses in chemistry, metallurgy, energy storage technologies, 3D printing, digital products, and decommissioning of nuclear facilities. TVEL also includes Rosatom integrators for additive technologies and electricity storage systems. Rosenergoatom, Joint-Stock Company is part of Rosatom Electric Power Division and one of the largest companies in the industry acting as an operator of nuclear power plants. It includes, as its branches, 11 operating NPPs, including the FNPP, the Scientific and Technical Center for Emergency Operations at NPPs, Design and Engineering as well as Technological companies. In total, 37 power units with a total installed capacity of over 29.5 GW are in operation at 11 nuclear power plants in Russia. Machinery Manufacturing Plant, Joint-Stock Company (MSZ JSC, Elektrostal) is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of fuel for nuclear power plants. The company produces fuel assemblies for VVER-440, VVER-1000, RBMK-1000, BN-600,800, VK-50, EGP-6; powders and fuel pellets intended for supply to foreign customers. It also produces nuclear fuel for research reactors. The plant belongs to the TVEL Fuel Company of Rosatom.

19th Edition of Global Conference on Catalysis, Chemical Engineering & Technology

Victor Mukhin

  • Scientific Program

Victor Mukhin, Speaker at Chemical Engineering Conferences

Title : Active carbons as nanoporous materials for solving of environmental problems

However, up to now, the main carriers of catalytic additives have been mineral sorbents: silica gels, alumogels. This is obviously due to the fact that they consist of pure homogeneous components SiO2 and Al2O3, respectively. It is generally known that impurities, especially the ash elements, are catalytic poisons that reduce the effectiveness of the catalyst. Therefore, carbon sorbents with 5-15% by weight of ash elements in their composition are not used in the above mentioned technologies. However, in such an important field as a gas-mask technique, carbon sorbents (active carbons) are carriers of catalytic additives, providing effective protection of a person against any types of potent poisonous substances (PPS). In ESPE “JSC "Neorganika" there has been developed the technology of unique ashless spherical carbon carrier-catalysts by the method of liquid forming of furfural copolymers with subsequent gas-vapor activation, brand PAC. Active carbons PAC have 100% qualitative characteristics of the three main properties of carbon sorbents: strength - 100%, the proportion of sorbing pores in the pore space – 100%, purity - 100% (ash content is close to zero). A particularly outstanding feature of active PAC carbons is their uniquely high mechanical compressive strength of 740 ± 40 MPa, which is 3-7 times larger than that of  such materials as granite, quartzite, electric coal, and is comparable to the value for cast iron - 400-1000 MPa. This allows the PAC to operate under severe conditions in moving and fluidized beds.  Obviously, it is time to actively develop catalysts based on PAC sorbents for oil refining, petrochemicals, gas processing and various technologies of organic synthesis.

Victor M. Mukhin was born in 1946 in the town of Orsk, Russia. In 1970 he graduated the Technological Institute in Leningrad. Victor M. Mukhin was directed to work to the scientific-industrial organization "Neorganika" (Elektrostal, Moscow region) where he is working during 47 years, at present as the head of the laboratory of carbon sorbents.     Victor M. Mukhin defended a Ph. D. thesis and a doctoral thesis at the Mendeleev University of Chemical Technology of Russia (in 1979 and 1997 accordingly). Professor of Mendeleev University of Chemical Technology of Russia. Scientific interests: production, investigation and application of active carbons, technological and ecological carbon-adsorptive processes, environmental protection, production of ecologically clean food.
