Customer Reviews

I used to use AAA for all my travel needs, but then they eliminated their in person travel agents and made it so all your travel plans had to be done over the phone. I really appreciate the in-person, face-to-face contact Fox offers. Katie Buss is fantastic.

Our rep Elizbeth K is very knowledgeable and provides excellent service. She is very knowledgeable and courteous.

Martha Hardy is amazing. She coordinates the trip for a group of us, one set flying out of MKE, one out of MSP, and the third out of Denver. Gets best deals, best flights. Thanks!

Their expertise on travel requirements is invaluable. They took into account all of our travel plans and developed a great itinerary.

My agent is very efficient and answers me promptly, including when I am on the trip, I get a response or a number or another contact. It’s really important to me to have someone to reach out to while out of the country.

Katie K. Was great to work with.  She answered all of our questions and wasn’t bothered by our indecisiveness.  We told her what we wanted, and she found the resort that checked all our boxes.  Can’t wait to plan another trip with her in the future!

We find the simplicity of working with an agent to be the perfect fit for us. Fox has proven to us many times, that travel worries and having to deal with problems by ourselves, is more than offset by the peace of mind derived from working with the pros.

Working with Paula at FWT has been great! We met her once in the office while visiting friends & family. We no longer live in Wisconsin & have been working remotely with her; She has been responsive to all our questions. Paula’s assistance has made all the difference in guiding us on this trip to Australia & New Zealand; which will be our 1st BIG trip!!! Thank you Paula & Fox World Travel! Can’t Wait!!

Planning a destination wedding in the midst of a pandemic was something we were prepared to have patience and flexibility with. My husband and I decided a travel agent was the best way to go because we were inviting about 30 guests, wanted the most up to date information in regards to travel, and had a wonderful experience with Alison at Fox World Travel when planning previous trips for the two of us. Going with Fox World Travel was the worst decision we made when planning. Nothing went smoothly. The first travel agent Tina quit halfway through the planning when we were given a second agent, Donna. Our workings with our first agent, Tina, were sporadic and we were optimistic about the change but realized that Donna most likely had a heavy workload. Our phone calls were often ignored, our guests would report back to us that they were brushed off or treated with disrespect when they had questions about their travel, and there was miscommunication about booking deadlines for guests that caused panic. Complaints were made to me (the bride) about how the previous agent handled bookings, I was dismissed for my worries with comments like, "you're organized don't worry," and, "I have another new bride I'm meeting with so, I can't talk with you today," all while my guests were constantly coming to me with questions because they could not get ahold of Donna. I've hesitated to write this review but I do not want anyone to experience the pre-wedding stress I went though by choosing Fox World. I will say, our trip was fantastic but not to the credit of Fox World. One of my bridesmaids had done this trip previously and became my go-to person with questions and inside tips to get the best deals. Dreams Punta Cana was extremely accommodating and our wedding coordinator, Andres, was fantastic.

My experience with this travel agency was one of the worst examples of customer service I have ever experienced. Not only did they not call me back after I left 3 separate voice messages, but when I did finally get ahold of them of my own accord they were so rude that I opted not to work with them. This is not a professional agency nor are they people I would ever want to work with again. Steer clear.

My cousin was having a batch party in Vegas and I have never been there before. I was nervous about flying and getting to my hotel etc and I had no idea what restaurants or activities my crazy cousin had in mind. After contacting Allison at Fox World Travel I felt so much better. She said that she had been there before and had great traveling advise for me. She was able to help me book my flight, saved me a little money on transportation to the hotel and even gave me expert advise on the entertainment/restaurants near my hotel. I was able to suggest a few of her suggested places to my cousin and it was the talk of the weekend. I got to say, I was skeptical of going through a travel agency but wow was I impressed! Thanks so much for making my experience memorable I will be going to back to Fox World Travel for all my future adventures!

Booked a Christmas vacation in Jamaica with Mel Crosby. Our first day and night we had no hot water, our room wasn't cleaned except to sweep and put in new towels during our whole vacation, never changed our sheets the whole time there, etc... Contacted Mel on the second day and she informed us when we asked for her help she didn't work weekends and with it being a holiday we wouldn't be able to get ahold of anyone. We complained to the concierge desk who said the manager would speak to us, never did, both times we complained. When we returned we set up an appt with branch manager Jody Piotter and went in to discuss our concerns since working with Mel seemed to get us nowhere. She said she would handle it and that it took up to 21 days to get a response from the resort. We asked for a partial refund. On day 24 after that appt, we called a different manager and left a voice mail. Obviously we were not a priority to Jody Piotter since she could not return our phone call, so we thought to try someone who might care about our issues. Later that day we received an email from Jody showing the resorts response to our issues. They of course denied everything. They offered us a $100 credit. Can you believe that? We paid over $6000 for a Christmas vacation, and that is the disrespect they showed us. There commercials state they are here for you. Don't believe it, they're here for themselves. Book it online, at least those sites have someone available to help you 24/7, unlike this business. And at a better price!!!

At World Relief Wisconsin, we come alongside refugees and other immigrants in vulnerable situations as they rebuild their lives in the United States. In the last 11 years, we’ve welcomed over 1,500 immigrants and refugees into the Fox Valley, from Appleton to Oshkosh.

In 2023, we opened a new office in Chippewa Valley, expanding our reach to serve more refugees and other immigrants. Today, our Appleton and Oshkosh offices offer refugee resettlement services, extended case management, immigration legal services, employment services, and English education classes. Learn more about our work below, or click here for ways to get involved.

Services in Fox Valley

In partnership with the U.S. Department of State, we welcome refugees and support them during the initial resettlement period - the first 90 days after arrival. Whether it’s securing housing, supplying basic necessities, or enrolling children in school, we come alongside these families every step of the way as they begin a path to belonging.

Learn More about Resettlement

Having fled poverty, persecution, and war, refugees, asylees, and other immigrants often arrive in the United States with high hopes of building a better life for themselves and their children. Upon arrival, however, they face a staggering number of challenges as they seek to rebuild their lives. Not only do these families have many tangible needs to meet, such as housing, transportation, employment, and health care, but they also face a number of intangible challenges as they learn to navigate a foreign culture, far away from their friends and family. Many struggle with feelings of isolation, despair, anxiety and depression. World Relief’s holistic Case Management program is designed to help our new neighbors overcome these barriers so they can not only survive, but thrive, in their new home.  For over 40 years, we’ve been providing case management support to refugees and, most recently, other immigrants in vulnerable situations across our communities. Our case managers support individuals and families to meet basic needs such as housing, access to food, and health care. We also partner with our clients to set goals, assess strengths, tackle challenges and connect families with local resources. This vital support serves as an anchor for many families who rely on this coaching to get on their feet after a crisis or during their first months in the U.S.

The path to legal immigration status for refugees, separated families and potential new citizens is exceedingly complex, fraught with numerous hurdles and frequent changes. Access to affordable legal services continues to fall woefully short of meeting the demand, despite the fact that many are unable to navigate this path on their own and can even face detrimental consequences if they do. As a result, many immigrants in the U.S. today live in fear and isolation, unable to truly rebuild a sense of home or belonging in the US. But together, we can help. For over 40 years, World Relief’s Department of Justice accredited Immigration Legal Services have served our immigrant neighbors and friends, providing the support and knowledge they need to obtain legal status for themselves and their families here in the U.S. Through direct service provision, training, referrals, advocacy, and education, World Relief walks alongside our immigrant community members on the path to stable immigration status, giving them the security and peace-of-mind they need to flourish in the U.S.  We also build national capacity to meet this need by providing technical legal support to churches, volunteers and other community organizations.

Immigrants bring incredible skills and experience with them to the United States from their home countries, and are often eager to find a job to support their families as soon as they arrive. Finding employment in the United States, however, can be an overwhelming challenge and an uphill battle for many. Unfortunately, immigrants often face challenges adapting their skills to the US workforce and t he barriers to entry can be significan t - whether due to language, education or cultural obstacles. But we want to change that. Today, World Relief helps prepare thousands of immigrants for work in their communities throug h job placement, workplace education and training, financial literacy training, economic empowerment and resiliency, and ongoing career counseling. We also partner with a vast network of employers who value the experiences of immigrants.

Refugees and immigrants arriving in the U.S. come with a wide variety of educational and linguistic backgrounds, but all share the desire to integrate and thrive in their new home. Learning English - a gateway to life in the U.S. - is a critical part of this journey. Without basic English language skills, newly arrived refugees and other immigrants are unable to access the resources and services that help them navigate daily life in the US. Economic opportunities are also drastically limited, creating a significant barrier to flourishing in their new country. At World Relief, we’re working to change that reality. We believe every immigrant should have access to a high-quality, professional place to learn English With over 30 years of experience educating tens of thousands of adult students across the nation, our English as a Second Language (ESL) classes provide immigrants with the language skills, community connections, and independence they need to flourish and succeed in the U.S.

What communities are part of the Fox Cities? And are they different from the Fox Valley?

College Avenue is full of attendees during Octoberfest Saturday, September 30, 2023, in downtown Appleton, Wis.

Ask an Appleton-area resident about important landmarks in their cities — Fox Cities Performing Arts Center, Fox Valley Technical College, Fox Cities Stadium — and one quickly starts to notice a lot of places are named after the Fox River.

That's because the Fox River runs through northeast Wisconsin and has been an important part of that area's history. The river has powered hydroelectric dams and paper mills , provided a major shipping lane to the Midwest through the Bay of Green Bay, and created a place to enjoy the outdoors.

The Fox Cities and the Fox Valley are both convenient ways to describe the communities defined by the river.

But what is considered the Fox Valley? And is it the same as the Fox Cities?

We're exploring this as part of What the Wisconsin? — a series where reporters take on questions about our state, our communities and the people in them.

The Fox Valley can be defined by geography

To better understand what areas of Wisconsin we're talking about, it might be helpful to consider where the Fox River flows.

Wisconsin's Fox River (not to be confused with the Fox River in northern Illinois) has its headwaters near Pardeeville. From there, it flows towards Portage, then northwest through Princeton and Omro. Once it joins Lake Butte des Morts and the Wolf River, it goes through Oshkosh into Lake Winnebago.

Then the river runs through Appleton and many of its surrounding communities. After the river passes Wrightstown, it keeps flowing north, almost parallel to Interstate 41, until it empties into Lake Michigan through the Bay of Green Bay.

Since Oshkosh and Green Bay lie along the Fox River, that means these cities are also included in the everyday definition of the Fox Valley, right? Actually, not always.

That's because, in local parlance, "Fox Valley" is often used interchangeably with "Fox Cities." And the definition of the second term is much more narrow.

Are there any 'official' definitions of the Fox Cities?

There's no one official definition of the Fox Cities. It depends on who you ask: tourism boards, urban planners or other government agencies.

One example comes from the Greater Fox Cities Convention and Visitors Bureau . The CVB on its website defines the Fox Cities as "the 19 communities in the greater Appleton area along the Fox River in East Central Wisconsin."

Those communities are:

  • City of Neenah
  • Town of Neenah
  • Combined Locks
  • Fox Crossing
  • Hortonville
  • Little Chute
  • Grand Chute
  • Vandenbroek

These communities are included in their list because they helped fund the CVB, according to executive director Pam Seidl, while Green Bay, Oshkosh and New London have their own tourism boards.

"Holistically, we've always looked at the Fox Cities as south of Green Bay, north of Oshkosh," Seidl said.

Meanwhile, the East Central Wisconsin Planning Commission lists most of the above communities in its definition of the Fox Cities Transportation Management Area , a census-defined metropolitan area where transportation planners implement projects. The TMA also includes the communities of Center, Ellington, Wrightstown, Town of Kaukauna and Vinland and excludes Hortonville.

The U.S. Census Bureau includes Oshkosh with Appleton and Neenah in a "combined statistical area," but not a "metropolitan statistical area." That means that while there are some economic ties between Oshkosh, Appleton and Neenah, the Census Bureau doesn't consider Oshkosh closely linked enough to be part of the Appleton-Neenah metro area.

But what do residents think the Fox Cities are?

While government agencies and tourism boards may have lists of communities they use for their purposes, "everybody has their own definition" of what the Fox Cities are, Seidl said.

The Green Bay Press-Gazette conducted a poll in 2021 to ask residents what communities they consider to be the Fox Cities. Respondents, who remained anonymous, were asked to pick from a list of communities they consider part of the Fox Cities, add any they feel might be excluded and explain their reasoning for their choices.

Some kept to communities close to Appleton and the river. Others included further-flung places like De Pere, Oshkosh, Wrightstown, Hortonville and Omro.

When explaining their choices, some cited geography. Several respondents included Green Bay and Oshkosh and excluded other cities because they weren't along the Fox River.

The majority felt, however, that places in the Green Bay and Oshkosh areas were too far away to be considered part of the Fox Cities. To their minds, the Fox Cities are a distinct metro area, a cluster of interconnected communities surrounding Appleton.

Others admitted their personal definitions might have shifted as a result of taking the survey. One said, "I've always thought of the Fox Cities as the adjoining metropolitan area between Oshkosh and Appleton. This survey has forced me to look at a map and realize my logic may be faulty."

Ultimately, the Fox Cities are 'what makes sense geographically and feels cohesive'

Taken all together, here's the closest thing we have to a consensus: the Fox Cities and Fox Valley includes the cities of Appleton, Neenah, Menasha and Kaukauna as well as connected towns and villages such as Grand Chute, Fox Crossing, Kimberly, Little Chute and Combined Locks.

Green Bay and Oshkosh, while geographically part of the Fox Valley, are usually thought of as being their own areas.

Beyond that, it depends on who you ask.

"There's no legal or structural definition (of the Fox Cities)," Seidl said. "It's more about what makes sense geographically and feels cohesive to residents and visitors."

Thousands without power in Fox Valley after snowstorm that brought 5 to 8 inches

An April snowstorm brought around 5 to 8 inches of snow accumulation around the Fox Valley as of Wednesday morning.

Rich Mamrosh, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service Green Bay , said likely more than a foot of snow actually fell across the area, but because temperatures were above freezing when the snowstorm began, some of it melted.

A winter storm warning issued Tuesday for most of northeastern Wisconsin was expected to be in effect until 1 p.m. Wednesday, but was lifted early. Mamrosh said the bulk of the storm has passed, and likely no more than another inch or two of snow will fall throughout the day Wednesday.

Wind gusts in the Fox Cities and Green Bay reached 50 mph, Mamrosh said. Between strong winds and heavy, wet snow on tree branches and power lines, thousands of people across northeastern Wisconsin lost power at some point during the storm.

How much snow did the Fox Valley get, so far?

As of 10 a.m. Wednesday, the following measurements were made in the Fox Valley and surrounding areas, Mamrosh said:

  • Appleton, by the airport: 8 inches
  • Green Bay: 6.2 inches
  • Kaukauna: 5.5 inches
  • Oshkosh: 6 inches
  • Sherwood, at High Cliff State Park: 7 inches

How many people around the region are without power?

As of Wednesday morning, over 35,000 We Energies customers were without power, said Alison Trouy, senior communication specialist for WEC Energy Group , which owns We Energies and Wisconsin Public Service.

In Outagamie County, as of 11 a.m., 12,937 customers had no power. In Calumet County, that number was 3,820, and in Winnebago County, it was 1,496.

"We are seeing substantial damage caused by strong winds and heavy snow, including numerous broken utility poles, downed power lines and trees falling onto our electric equipment," Trouy said in an emailed statement. "We’ve received hundreds of reports of problems with utility poles, downed wires or trees falling onto our equipment. Crews also are facing difficult road conditions as they travel to restore power."

Trouy said WEC Energy Group has restored power to more than 22,000 customers since the snowstorm began Tuesday.

Trouy said WEC Energy Group encourages customers to report any outages and sign up online for outage alerts by text or email.

What are road conditions in the Fox Valley like?

The Wisconsin Department of Transporation warned on social media that roads around the whole state are slippery and hazardous as of Wednesday morning.

The DOT advised people to drive cautiously, leave room to brake and be patient with snowplows.

The latest road conditions can be seen online at 511wi.gov .

Is the snow going to stay long?

With temperatures warming up to the 40s on Thursday and Friday, the white-covered ground should be short-lived.

"The snow will be largely gone, I would say even by probably Friday," Mamrosh said. "This time of year, the sun angle is really high, and if it clears out during the day, the snow melts really fast."

Are any school districts open?

Wednesday is a snow day for all the major Fox Valley-area school districts not already on spring break.

Fox Cities could gain more Democratic lawmakers under the new Wisconsin legislative maps

fox valley travel oshkosh wi

APPLETON — Democratic Gov. Tony Evers signed new electoral maps into law Monday , potentially creating big changes in the Fox Cities' legislative representation.

The maps the governor proposed divide more evenly the state's legislative districts between Democrats and Republicans and dramatically weaken advantages granted to Republicans by district maps passed in 2011.

“When I promised I wanted fair maps — not maps that are better for one party or another, including my own — I damn well meant it,” Evers said prior to signing the maps into law at the state Capitol. “Wisconsin is not a red state or a blue state — we’re a purple state, and I believe our maps should reflect that basic fact."

The Fox Cities, specifically, got slightly more blue after the lines for Senate District 18 and 19 shifted pretty dramatically.

The new maps will be in effect for the November election, when all Assembly districts and the seats in even-numbered Senate districts are up for election.

Many current legislators no longer live within the boundaries of their newly drawn districts, which will require them to run in the new district they live in, or move to the district they currently represent to try maintaining their constituency.

Nothing will happen to senators in odd-numbered districts who were drawn out of their districts until their reelection in 2026. They will only have to move if they win.

With new district lines, Fox Cities voters could see some big changes in the candidates running in their newly drawn districts. Here's what the new maps look like in the Fox Cities.

How will the Fox Cities Senate districts change?

Under the previous 2022 maps, the Fox Cities were in Senate districts 1, 2 and 19 but now will be spread across districts 1, 2, 18 and 19.

The most noticeable change in the area is the re-drawn Senate District 18, which now covers the Oshkosh-to-Appleton corridor.

This area was previously split between the 18th district north of Oshkosh and the 19th district just south of Neenah — both held by Republican senators.

Now, the district covering the lakeside communities will lean Democratic and could potentially bring the first Democratic senator back to the Fox Valley since 2012.

This is according to a Milwaukee Journal Sentinel analysis of the new maps which determined the leaning based on districts with more than a 5% difference in Republican and Democratic voters either way.

The 2nd Senate District — which covers parts of Little Chute and Kaukauna — saw some slight changes in the new maps. The district now stretches more toward the north and seceded parts of Kaukauna to Senate District 1.

Sen. Robert Cowles, R-Allouez, was drawn out of his Senate District 2, but told The Post-Crescent he plans to move into the new boundaries and run for reelection.

It's a similar story for Republican André Jacque who was drawn out of his 1st Senate districts, and now reside in the 30th.

But he won't have to worry about whether to move or run in the new boundaries until 2026.

How will the Fox Cities Assembly districts change?

With the new maps and all Assembly seats up for election in November, Fox Cities voters could see some changes in local representation.

The newly drawn Democratic-leaning Senate District 18 will be composed of three Democratic-leaning Assembly districts.

The west side of the Fox Cities was previously under the Assembly districts 55, 56 and 57 but after Senate districts 18 and 19 were redrawn, Fox Cities Assembly districts will be split into Democratic-leaning districts covering Oshkosh, Neenah, Menasha and Appleton and then Republican-leaning districts covering the more rural western half of the Fox Cities.

Rep. Lee Snodgrass, D-Appleton, currently represents Assembly District 57, but will represent district 52 under the new maps if she wins reelection. The new district will contain more of northern Appleton and lose parts of Menasha.

"For me, this just makes sense to give me a larger portion of Appleton because I've always considered myself the main Appleton representative," Snodgrass told The Post-Crescent.

The new Assembly District 52 takes parts of Grand Chute previously under Assembly districts 55 and 56, held by Republicans Nate Gustafson and David Murphy.

Murphy's hometown is Greenville, which still lies in District 56, so he is likely to run again in his district.

Gustafson was narrowly missed getting draw out of his Assembly District 55 — the new lines are 15 feet from his residence. He said in a press release that he plans to run in his district again.

On the east side of the Fox Cities, Assembly District 2 shifted east and will now cover Kimberly, Combined Locks and parts of Kaukauna, which were previously part of Assembly District 3. The 3rd district now stops at the Calumet County line in the Fox Cities.

How have the maps changed statewide?

Statewide, Evers' new maps about evenly split the 99 Assembly districts between Republican and Democratic-leaning districts. Forty-five districts are more Democratic than Republican, and 46 districts are more Republican than Democratic.

The remaining eight districts give either Republicans or Democrats a fair change of winning them.

The 33 state Senate districts drawn by Evers are also pretty evenly split between Republican and Democratic-leaning districts. Fourteen districts are Democratic-leaning and 15 districts are Republican-leaning.

The other four districts are competitive and are likely to be a toss-up between Democratic and Republican candidates.
