Why to Buy Tour Packages for Karnataka?

  • Local Expertise and Itinerary Planning: Karnataka tour packages are designed by travel experts who possess in-depth knowledge of the state's attractions, transportation options, and logistics. They craft well-planned itineraries that consider the challenges faced by travelers, ensuring a smoother and more enjoyable trip. For example, a package might include visits to popular destinations like Mysore, Hampi, and Coorg, taking into account transportation connectivity and time efficiency.
  • Hassle-Free Transportation and Connectivity: Karnataka is a vast state with diverse landscapes and destinations. Navigating through the transportation infrastructure and ensuring connectivity between different regions can be challenging. With a Karnataka tour package, transportation arrangements, including transfers between cities, are taken care of. This eliminates the stress of arranging transportation independently and ensures seamless connectivity between various attractions.
  • Local Guides and Cultural Insights: Karnataka tour packages often include the services of knowledgeable local guides who provide insights into the state's culture, history, and traditions. They can bridge the language gap, offer local perspectives, and enhance the travel experience. For instance, a guide can explain the significance of the ancient ruins in Hampi or the architectural marvels of Halebidu and Belur.
  • Convenience and Time Efficiency: Planning a comprehensive trip to Karnataka individually can be time-consuming and challenging due to the state's diverse offerings. A Karnataka tour package provides convenience and time efficiency as all the logistics, including accommodations, transportation, and sightseeing, are taken care of. This allows travelers to make the most of their time and focus on enjoying the destinations rather than dealing with logistics.
  • Safety and Support: Reputable tour operators prioritize the safety and well-being of their customers. They have established safety protocols and support systems to address any unforeseen situations or emergencies. This ensures that travelers can explore Karnataka with peace of mind, knowing that they have professional assistance and guidance if needed.
  • Local Experiences and Off-the-Beaten-Path Destinations: Karnataka tour packages often include visits to offbeat destinations and hidden gems that may be challenging to discover independently. These experiences provide a deeper understanding of the state's culture and allow travelers to explore lesser-known attractions. For example, a package might offer a visit to the lesser-explored Western Ghats region for trekking or wildlife encounters.
  • Expert Recommendations and Culinary Delights: Karnataka is renowned for its diverse cuisine, including delicious South Indian dishes like dosas, idlis, and local delicacies like Mysore pak and Coorg pandi curry. A Karnataka tour package can provide expert recommendations for authentic culinary experiences, ensuring travelers get to savor the best local flavors. This helps overcome the challenge of finding the most authentic and delicious food options.

By Meenakshi Gupta

About Karnataka

The moment one thinks of the South India Tour, it’s the heritage and ancient temples that come to mind, which is true to some extent. However, Karnataka has much more to offer when it comes to visiting the state for the first time. Travellers from across the globe visit Karnataka to explore the glorious sights, amazing history, astonishing craftsmanship in the form of carvings in ancient temples and monuments, wildlife , adventure, and a lot more. Tours in Karnataka have always been the most sought after by all the segments of travellers.

Plan your Trip

It is often asked what the perfect itinerary is or which is the perfect tour in Karnataka. Well, there is nothing enough when it comes to travelling in Karnataka. There is a lot to see and experience in Karnataka, however, if you are travelling for the first time or wants to know more, here is a seven day tour in Karnataka itinerary that one can follow. You may add more destinations based on the number of days one has in hand. Karnataka, One state of Many Worlds, has almost everything to see for all the segments of travellers. One week is not enough to cover the entire state’s tourist attractions; however, one can plan the following itinerary to cover the famous and must to visit places in Karnataka. Assuming Bangalore to be the landing location which is well connected by road, rail and air, an itinerary below is just enough to cover the wildlife, heritage and cultural destinations in Karnataka.

7 days tour in Karnataka

Indulge into the 1600 years of history of rules and lost empires, hidden treasures, rich culture, architecture, finest craftsmanship, palatial architecture and much more in one state in many worlds.

Day 1 – Bandipur

Bandipur Tiger Reserve

Tiger at Bandipur

Embark your journey from Bangalore to the Heritage city, Mysore and enrich yourself with the rich heritage, history and culture. Get that adrenaline rush while crossing one of the dense forests in Karnataka for its wildlife. The Jungle stay and safari will mesmerise you with the silence of the forest and the melodious chirping of birds. Get those cameras ready to capture the moment of deer and other animals running, dancing peacocks, group of tuskers or endangered Asiatic wild elephants, reaching the water sources and the main attraction, the Tigers. Other endangered species such as sloth bears, muggers, Indian rock pythons, gaurs, jackals, and four-horned antelopes can be spotted in Bandipur. Bandipur is also home to other animals like chital, sambar, mouse deer, and the flying lizard. Other fascinations include the diversity of flora and over 200 species of resident and migratory birds. Choose Jungle Lodges and resorts for that memorable stay. The distance between Bangalore to Bandipur is 214 km and takes about 4.30 hours.

Day 2 – Mysuru

Mysore palace

Mysore Palace

After soaking up in the serenity of the forest, head out to Mysore or Mysuru , the heritage city and a must-to-do in Karnataka. A day filled with heritage, culture, places of pilgrims, dam, and if you can squeeze in some time, visit the famous and one of the largest zoos in the country, Mysore Zoo. Visit Amba Vilas Palace or popularly called Mysore Palace built-in 1912 will leave you in awe. The marvellous architecture with all modern amenities showcases the rich heritage of the state. Plan your itinerary to include Chamundeshwari Hills, St Philomena Church and Krishnarajsagara Dam built across River Cauvery and the Brindavan Garden. Do not forget to soothe your taste buds with lip-smacking Mysore Masala Dosa and Mysore Pak. The distance between Bandipur to Mysore is 72 km and takes about 1.25 hours.

Day 3 – Hassan

Hassan Settihalli Church

Hassan Settihalli Church

The ancient Hoysala city, Hassan is located 934 m above sea level and is a city of ancient temples. The Chennakeshava Temples of Belur and Halebidu are examples of marvellous architecture. The intricate carvings depicting various stories of the kingdom, Ramayana and Mahabharata will leave you spell-bound. The floating or the submerged Shettihalli Church will amaze you with its ruins. Take about 600 steps to reach the famous Jain temple at Sravanabelagola, the highest statue of Jain God Bahubali in the world. The distance between Mysore to Hassan is 112 km and takes about 2.30 hours.

Day 4- Hospet – Hampi

Hospet Hampi

Vastuchitra Stone Chariot – Hospet Hampi

Hospet or Hospete is another heritage town in Karnataka with its rich culture and ancient structures. Hampi, on the banks of the Tungabhadra river, is a UNESCO World Heritage site and is the main attraction of the town. The Chariot at Virupakshe Temple in Hampi is the highlight to which tourists, researchers, and students flock. The monuments and the remains of once the rich princely state Vijayanagara Empire are the attractions of Hampi. The distance between Hassan to Hospet is 310 km and takes about 6 hours.

Day 5- Aihole – Pattadakal

aihole pattadakal

The twin hub of temples from the era depicts the Dravidian and Chalukyan architecture. Pattadakal , a UNESCO World Heritage Site, located on the banks of the Malaprabha River is a testimony to the richness of Chalukyan architecture during the 7th and 8th centuries and is renowned for its intricately carved temple. A mix of Dravidian and Aryan architecture makes the Pattadakal temple one of its kind in India.

Aihole, a Dravidian temple architecture is serene on the banks of the Malaprabha River. Nestled here are hundreds of temples but the most noteworthy among them is the Durga Temple composed of a semi-circular apse, an elevated plinth and a gallery encircling the sanctum. Durga temple is the primary attraction in Aihole and the most spectacular representation of Aiholë temples. The other attractions are Lad Khan Temple the chosen abode of the Muslim leader Lad Khan, Huchimalli Temple with a sculpture of Lord Vishnu sitting atop a cobra, the Ravalphadi Cave Temple, the Umamaheswari Temple, the two-storied Buddhist temple, the Konti Temple Complex, and the Jain Meguti Temple,

The distance between Hospet to Aihole is 125 km and takes about 2.30 hours. The distance between Pattadakal to Aihole is 13 km and takes about 20 minutes.

Day 6- Badami

Badami

Just 23 km away from Pattadakal, Badami cannot be missed for its exquisite sculptures and sandstone cliffs of Badami bring forth many a tale from the yesteryears. Famous for its four rock-cut caves adorned with ancient carved pillars and bracket figures cut out of red sandstone, Badami dates back to the 7th Century with the outer mantapa added in the 11th century during the late Kalyani Chalukyan age. Dedicated to Shiva’s form as the god of souls, spirits and ghosts, the Bhutanatha Temple, the caves overlook the Agastya Theertha Lake. The golden hour or the sunset is the best time to visit Badami Caves as it captures the rust-red tint of the sandstone.

The distance between Pattadakal to Badami is 21 km and takes about 30 minutes. The distance between Badami to Bangalore is 450 km and takes about 8.30 hours. You can travel back to Bangalore by night train or State Roadways buses. Although seven days are too less to visit and absorb the rich heritage and culture of Karnataka, however a compact above itinerary can enrich you with the must-to-do places in Karnataka highlights. There is a lot more like adventure, beaches, wildlife, temples and misty hills that can be covered in your next trip.

Bangalore is the largest and capital city of Karnataka. Well-connected by flights and trains from most cities of India, Bangalore boasts of an amalgamation of palaces, national parks, museums and pubs to kick start your Karnataka Vacation.

Try reaching Bangalore the night before or early in the morning so that you can make the most of your day. Head straight to the Bangalore Palace and let your eyes soak in the multiple hues of this European-style architecture. With intricate carvings and splendid decor, the palace will give you a glimpse into the past of this busy, urban technological hub.

Your next stop should be Lalbagh Botanical Garden to see its lush and luxurious gardens.

Banerghatta National Park

The highlight of your day will be the Banerghatta National Park, but don’t forget to take a small detour to the Bull Temple on your way. The animal safari at Banerghatta will be a memorable experience as you wander in a caged vehicle through the carefully constructed sanctuary and see tiger, lions, elephants, bears and other species in their almost-natural habitat. Take some time to go to the butterfly museum next door.

Pyramid Valley

Drive down from Banerghatta to the Pyramid Valley in Kanakapura on the outskirts of the city. Catch the sunset here- the view is breathtaking! It is a meditation centre built amidst a sprawling landscape and will end your trip to Bangalore on a calming note. The centre closes at 6 p.m., so check if you have enough time on your hand.

Spend the last part of your evening shopping in the M.G. Road- Commercial Street area or chilling in one of the pubs in Koramangala or Indiranagar before resting for the night. Also, try to visit the Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath and the Big Banyan Tree in Uttarahalli, Hobli.

Bangalore & Mysore Tour With Wildlife Nagarhole & Coonoor Safari

Went on a tour of Bangalore and Mysore with a wildlife safari in Nagarhole and Coonoor. It was one of the most memorable trips I have ever been on. The tour was organized by a local travel agency and they did an excellent job of planning and executing the entire trip. The first stop on our tour was Bangalore, also known as the Silicon Valley of India. We visited some of the famous landmarks like Lalbagh Botanical Garden, Bangalore Palace, and Tipu Sultan's Summer Palace. The city was bustling with energy and we got a taste of the vibrant culture and delicious food. Next, we headed to Mysore, the cultural capital of Karnataka. The city was steeped in history and we were amazed by the grandeur of the Mysore Palace. We also visited the Chamundi Hills, where we got a panoramic view of the city. The highlight of our Mysore visit was the famous Dussehra festival, which was a treat for the senses. From Mysore, we headed to Nagarhole National Park, one of the top wildlife destinations in India. We were lucky to spot various animals like tigers, elephants, leopards, and many different species of birds. The safari was well-organized and we had an experienced guide who gave us interesting insights about the wildlife and their habitat. After the wildlife adventure, we headed to Coonoor, a picturesque hill station in the Nilgiri Hills. We took a jeep safari through the lush green forests and tea plantations, which was a thrilling experience. The highlight of our Coonoor visit was the Nilgiri Mountain Railway, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The train ride took us through breathtaking landscapes and we were mesmerized by the beauty of the Nilgiri Hills. Overall, the Bangalore and Mysore tour with the wildlife safari in Nagarhole and Coonoor was an amazing experience. The itinerary was well-planned, and we had a mix of city sightseeing, wildlife adventure, and hill station exploration. The accommodations were comfortable and the food was delicious. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone looking to explore the cultural and natural beauty of Karnataka.

Customized Culture and Beach Holiday in India with Daily Departure

We had a very interesting tour with an excellent driver (Mr Anthony) who made us comfortable and very knowledgeable guides everywhere we visited. Our favourite Hotel was in Mysore although all were good and the visit to Halebidu was probably my highlight as the temples were magnificent with such elaborate carvings. Goa was not as relaxing as I imagined. We enjoyed the beach but didn't want to lay in the sun too long so other than shopping we didn't find it as attractive as we had expected. Overall all it was a very good introduction to a country we had not visited before. The arrangements for meeting the drivers and guides worked well for us despite us arriving and departing before/after the 11 day tour so thanks to Linda and other support staff this worked well.

The Southern Feast - Karnataka & Goa Tour

The Southern Feast - Karnataka & Goa

The tour is highly recommended historically and culturally, especially places like Hampi and Badami. Goa is overly touristy for a person with a professional background in tourism, yet old Goa is a very nice place to visit. Our hotel was near Baga beach and it was a nice place to relax and have some ayurvedic spa time! MTA organized the tour very well. We had a comfortable car, an excellent and professional driver Parveen throughout the tour. Most of the tour guides were very good. Most of the hotels and food were good I recommend you to discuss and choose the hotels carefully in advance. Ask for all options so you can choose accordingly. The MTA representative Manish is very helpful and will find you the best option that suits your preferences and budget. We definitely had a very good and enjoyable time in Kernataka and Goa! And after our experience we can highly recommend MTA.

Our tour guide took us to some of the must-see spots in the city, including the famous Tipu Sultan's Summer Palace and the Lalbagh Botanical Garden. We also got to taste some delicious local food at the famous food street in VV Puram. Next, we headed to Nagarhole National Park, one of the best wildlife reserves in India. The safari through the park was a thrilling experience as we got to see a variety of animals like elephants, tigers, leopards, and many more in their natural habitat. We were lucky enough to spot a family of elephants crossing the road right in front of our jeep. The park also had a beautiful river running through it, making the scenery even more picturesque. After our wildlife adventure, we traveled to the charming hill station of Coonoor. The drive through the Nilgiri mountains was breathtaking and Coonoor itself was a quaint little town with lush green valleys and tea plantations. We took a safari through the nearby Mudumalai National Park and spotted many exotic birds and animals like peacocks, deer, and even a leopard. The highlight of the tour for me was the visit to Mysore, also known as the City of Palaces. The Mysore Palace was a sight to behold with its intricate architecture and rich history. We also visited the famous Chamundeshwari Temple and watched the mesmerizing light and sound show at the Brindavan Gardens. Throughout the tour, our guide was knowledgeable and helpful, providing us with interesting facts and stories about each place we visited. The accommodations and transportation were also top-notch, making our journey comfortable and hassle-free. Overall, the Bangalore & Mysore tour with Wildlife Nagarhole & Coonoor Safari was an incredible experience that I would highly recommend to anyone looking to explore the beauty and diversity of South India. It was a perfect blend of city life, wildlife, and nature, making it a well-rounded and unforgettable trip. I can't wait to go back and explore more of this beautiful region.

How to Plan a Karnataka Itinerary for First Timers

Last Updated on November 10, 2020 by hungryoungwoman

In August of 2019, I was invited to be part of the first Karnataka International Travel Expo from Karnataka Tourism. I’ve just visited Bangalore earlier but the cities we were asked to explore post the expo just opened up my mind about the state in India. Here’s everything you need to plan out a Karnataka itinerary if you are a first-timer.

As a disclosure, I was provided accommodation and travel as complimentary but I only post my honest opinions on Hungryoungwoman that remain unbiased.

Firstly, we visited Karnataka for about a week. In this course of time, we covered Bangalore, Mysore, Bandipur, and Coorg. There were packages that allowed for more places of interest in Karnataka to be covered but as we like slow traveling, we opted for this one.

To give a brief about this state, Karnataka is located in South India just above Kerala, the southernmost state in the country. The official language of Karnataka is Kannada but retail stores and most famous tourist places in Karnataka will have people speaking in English so it is not a problem to converse when you are traveling there.

There are currently 2 international airports in Karnataka; namely in Bangalore and Mangalore and a few in the works. We arrived at Kempegowda International Airport in Bangalore which is quite modern in my opinion. I am comparing this to the only other airport I have seen in India which is in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

Getting a visa for Karnataka is the same process as any Indian state and it is easily available online.

karnataka trip plan

I am a sole believer in planning in advance. I research, find places to stay and explore in advance, as well as download any information that can help before/during the trip. An itinerary is very important to maintain and stick to especially if you are short on days or money.

Following is a 7 day itinerary for Karnataka that can be broken down into 3 days or even 2 days trip in Karnataka by choosing the location you’d like to visit.

Ideally, these holiday destinations in Karnataka should be located close to each other when you are visiting for a shorter time. Say, for example, a perfect itinerary including tourist places in Karnataka for 3 days can start in Bangalore, then Bandipur, and end in Mysore where you can fly off from there.

This includes

Tips for a holiday in Karnataka for first-timers

The best way to travel in Karnataka or most of India is to hire tuk-tuks or most commonly known as auto/auto rikshaw there. If you look like a typical tourist, drivers will try to rip you off. Since I have Indian roots myself, this is usually easy for me but some drivers can easily know I am a tourist as I can’t speak their language.

A handy tip is to check the distance of the place you need to travel to in advance. Do not, and I repeat, do not give drivers anything more than INR 200. No ride costs that much or the driver wouldn’t take you if the distance is that long.

An auto driver had ripped off a member of our tour group by charging him INR 1500 for one way and another INR 1500 back! Please don’t be that person who pays without knowing

Always bargain with drivers and try to negotiate the price to at least 50-70% of what is quoted.

What to Pack for Holiday Destinations in Karnataka

Some simple things I always have in my bag when traveling to India:

  • Light clothes like thin material pants and tees
  • Comfortable walking shoes
  • Sanitizing wipes

Karnataka Itinerary

With seven days in Karnataka, we spent 3 days in Bangalore, 1 day in Mysore, 1 day in Bandipur, and 2 days in Coorg.

There are a number of cities in Karnataka each different in its own way. Broadly speaking, I’d categorize them into famous cities, cities for wildlife and nature, and for culture and history.

I chose to do a mixture of both tourist spots in Karnataka and the wildlife/ nature tour. If you are a history and culture fan, then visit cities like Hampi, Udupi, Hassan, and Bijapur.

We were a mixed group of about 20 people from different parts of the world traveling on a bus. Although we made a good number of friends on this trip, my husband and I realized that traveling in a group is not for us.

Sure, making friends while traveling is a good perk but adjusting according to an itinerary designed by someone else and people holding up others is not exactly fun for me. I have decided to come back later and enjoy my favorite places to travel in Karnataka alone.

Important Places in Karnataka – Bangalore City Tour

I’ve been to Bangalore a couple of times before but this was with family and I didn’t get to have a Bangalore sightseeing tour then. However, those two times I actually spent time shopping at local street shops and trying street food.

The food in Bangalore is delicious! I’ve also named it as one of the best food cities in Asia, check it here!

When compared to the tourist attractions in Bangalore, I loved the previous visits as it required interacting with and living life as locals do.

Some of the main places to visit around Bangalore are Lalbagh Botanical Garden and Bannerghatta Biological Park, these are two famous natural places to visit in Bangalore.

karnataka trip plan

Our visit to Bannerghatta Biological Park was an extremely educational one. We stopped at the Bannerghatta Nature Camp by Jungles Lodges and Resorts (JLR)

JLR are state-owned properties that provide for basic amenities and facilities. Since we were on a trip with Karnataka Tourism, we stopped for lunches and tours at these hotels.

I do, however, have mixed reactions to the way animals are treated inside the enclosure. We found a few animals suffering from malnutrition, but according to staff regular checks and medicines are given in a customized diet for each animal.

I’d say, allot an entire day for your visit to Bannerghatta as it is located far enough from the city center and traffic in Karnataka is known to be one of the worst. However, don’t miss this especially if you like learning about animals.

Watching the tiger and bears from such close proximity is sure enthralling!

I will be writing a more detailed post about Bangalore city sightseeing soon and will update it here once I do.

If you’re thinking of taking day trips from Bangalore, Nandi Hills is a very good option. It roughly takes about an hour and a half by car. Known for breathtaking panoramic views, if you’re a beginner trekker then this can be a nice place to start.

For a more local feel of Bangalore, I suggest taking a Bangalore city tour with these packages from Get Your Guide, this particular one covers the market and Tipu Sultan’s summer palace. Click here for details .

karnataka trip plan

Best Places in Karnataka for wildlife – Bandipur

Bangalore to Bandipur is almost 5 hours so I suggest spending at least a night there. This area is very popular for its national park. Most hotels offer a safari experience through the jungle with unrestricted animals. If you are a wildlife lover you will definitely enjoy this!

This was one of my favorite places to see in Karnataka during our trip. We stayed at the Country Club, this is probably the only thing I would change about our stay and next time we would look for a better lodge. The rooms were in bad condition without maintenance and we had weird issues like the electricity going on and off, the phone not working, and a breakfast that was very mediocre. Also, Wi-Fi only at the reception!

There are various options for every budget in the vicinity. For a luxurious stay, the Dhole’s Den seemed like a wonderful option as some members of our group were placed there.

For mid options, you can take look at the hotels below to look at prices and pictures.

We had a fantastic time exploring the jungle with Jungle Lodges and Resorts at the Bandipur Safari Lodge. A safari jeep with grills on windows is taken for a ride in the forest with a knowledgeable guide.

I especially liked how responsible this lodge is as they restrict guests from taking any eatables or engaging with animals. Use of flash cameras and talking loudly when you spot an animal is not allowed at all.

Hence, we found the jungle trails very clean unlike other places in India that are usually destroyed by tourists.

A typical safari lasts for about 2-3 hours and takes place early in the morning and in the afternoon after lunch.

Karnataka Trip for Indian culture – Mysore

Next on Karnataka places to visit list is Mysore. The former capital of Karnataka and housing the Mysore Palace of the earlier ruling Wodeyar family.

For history fanatics, learning about the Wodeyar family and their curse will be interesting. This curse which targeted the family resulted in all couples being barren for around 400 years. In order to grow the royal family, an heir had to be obtained through adoption.

Other things to do in Mysore include visiting a silk factory (and buying something made of silk as a souvenir!) and seeing the Philomena Church.

Since we were only in Mysore for a day, we couldn’t visit any of their markets and the famous Tipu Sultan Palace. I visited the palace during childhood and absolutely loved the royal furniture.

Beautiful Places in Karnataka for nature – Coorg

Other than natural tourist destinations in Karnataka like Badami and Chikmangalur, Coorg or Kodagu is a beautiful location where you can find numerous honeymoon places in Karnataka.

Most people visit to enjoy the cool climate and lush greenery but Coorg is more than that. During our stay of 2 days in Coorg, we visited the Abbey Falls and Dubare Elephant Camp (this one is again a state-owned camp)

View this post on Instagram   A post shared by Sarah @ hungryoungwoman.com (@hungryoungwoman) on Sep 4, 2019 at 11:30pm PDT

I liked Coorg the most for a couple of reasons; unlike most hill stations in India, Coorg is not too high up and the ride does not make me nauseous or sick. Two, Coorg isn’t as well known as hill stations like Ooty or Munnar which means lesser crowds!

Some other best things to do in Coorg which I want to do when I’m back is to visit the coffee plantations, go on a trek, try doing a food tour, and stay at the luxury resort Coorg Wilderness Resort again. More about this coming soon so watch this space!

All in all, I extremely felt my trip to Karnataka was worthwhile! Karnataka was never a destination on my bucket list and I’m surprised why I didn’t think of it earlier considering how close it is to Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Nevertheless, I know I am coming back soon 🙂

Have you been to this state before? What according to you are the best tourist places in Karnataka or some Karnataka attractions that should not be missed? Let me know.

Visiting other places in India, then don’t miss reading my guides on a one day trip to Agra and Ahmedabad sightseeing 🙂

Until then, happy traveling! xx

I believe Karnataka is the most beautiful among all southern states. Massive coconut trees, beautiful canals and lush green forests are the gems of this place. Thanks for sharing this post and itinerary with all the readers. I am sure it will be helpful for beginners as well.

The Perfect Travel Plan for a 3 Day Trip in Karnataka

by middha on July 11, 2018

When you make a trip to Karnataka, you would want to explore all the great places that the state has to offer.  A good way of pooling in many places on a short trip is to plan your travel smart, covering as much as you can with a clever itinerary. Read our travel plan for a 3 day trip to Karnataka for an awesome short break in the state.

Best Plan For A 3 Days Trip in Karnataka

Day 1: spend your first day in bangalore.

Bangalore

Being a cosmopolitan city, Bangalore has a lot of exciting things to do – make this your first stop. There’s plenty to do and see in Bangalore, here are some worth checking out.

Things to Do in Bangalore

  • Food in Bangalore

Bangalore is a foodie’s paradise, with plenty of option from local delicacies to Italian Mughlai and even Chinese. One of the best places for a South Indian breakfast in Bangalore is MTR (Mavali Tiffin Room).

  • Sightseeing in Bangalore

Go on a sightseeing tour. Famous sights to see in Bangalore are Bangalore Palace, Cubbon Park, Lal Baugh, Vidhana Soudha, Bull Temple

  • Bangalore’s Nightlife

Bangalore has great nightlife, from pubs and nightclubs to shopping and street food. You could choose to do a bit of both or only a few, both ways you will end up having a great time in Bangalore.

Day 2: Head to Mysore

 The Mysore Palace

The Mysore Palace

The drive to Mysore will take you around two hours to complete. We suggest you leave Bangalore early in the morning so that you get most of the second day to spend in Mysore. You can club your visit to Mysore with Coorg since the two places aren’t that too far away from each other.

Make a stop at Channapatna

For a unique experience, on your way to Mysore, you can stop over at Channapatna, a village known for making toys. There are many amazing toys and puppets that you can see here.

If you do not want to drive down, there are trains available from the Krantivira Sangolli Rayanna railway station to Mysore Junction railway station.

The ideal time to spend in Mysore is half a day as there are only a few places that you can see. From there, you should move to Coorg to complete your 3 day trip in Karnataka.

Things to Do in Mysore

  • Sightseeing in Mysore

Visit the Srirangapatna Sri Ranganathaswamy temple and then head out to the Dariya Daulat Palace. From here, you can visit the Mysuru Palace, and then do some shopping in Mysore. Don’t forget to pick up sweets and spices, Mysore has amazing varieties.

From there drive down to Chamundi Hill, where you will come across two stunning Dravidian temples, including the famous Bull Temple.

Day 2: Head to Coorg

Coorg

From Chamundi Hill, you drive down to Coorg. There are no trains along this route. If you have driven down from Bangalore to Mysore, then it is great, but if you have not, you can rent a car in Mysore to get to Coorg.

The journey to Coorg should take you around 2 hours, so you should be there by evening, just in time to watch the sunset from the Brahmagiri Peak. Spend a few hours at this peak and then head to your hotel and rest.

Day 3: Spend The Last Day in Coorg

Coorg

Spend your last day in Coorg, it will probably be the best one, especially if you love adventure sports.

Things to Do in Coorg

1. visit the falls.

Start your day early and head straight to the Abbey Falls to enjoy a bit of nature and fun. You can also go to the Iruppu Falls if you wish.

2. Ride an Elephant at the Dubare Elephant Camp.

Another must-do activity in Coorg is riding an elephant at the Dubare Elephant Camp. The experience is great and you’ll get to pass through the banks of the River Cauvery where you’ll see crocodiles, Gaurs and a few other animals.

3. Spend time at the Raja’s Seat

Raja’s Seat is a great place to end your sightseeing trip in Coorg. This lookout point in the hills offers stunning views of the green valley. Make sure to watch the sunset from this point and pay a visit to the garden nearby that is spread out with pretty flowers and musical fountains.

4. Enjoy Local Delicacies in Coorg

Coorg has a delightful local cuisine. A few popular dishes served at restaurants in Coorg are bamboo shoot Curry, their own version of pork and Kadumbutu which is steamed dumplings. Apart from this, you can get Indian, Chinese and even European-Continental food in Coorg.

This ends your three day trip in Karnataka. To get back to Bangalore, you could either drive down straight to Bangalore or go to Mysore and from there go by train to Bangalore.
