Following a plethora of changes over the offseason, a new era for the Solid Rock Carriers CARS Tour begins this weekend.

With a new ownership group consisting of Dale Earnhardt Jr., Kevin Harvick, Jeff Burton and Justin Marks to go along with talented driver rosters in the LMSC and PLM Tour, there is plenty of excitement for the series as it heads to Southern National Motorsports Park, which hosted the inaugural CARS Tour race weekend back in 2015.

The site of the prestigious Thanksgiving All-Star Classic in November, Southern National has not hosted the CARS Tour since 2020, but will welcome both divisions and race fans across the southeast who are eager to see the next generation of drivers battle seasoned short track veterans.

With an increased race purse and plenty of drivers determined to open 2023 on a high note, the on-track action at Southern National is expected to be fierce in the CARS Tour’s formal return to the facility in which owner Jack McNelly’s vision for the series was born.

Carson Kvapil starts championship defense at Southern National

From the first green flag at Caraway Speedway, Carson Kvapil established himself as the driver to beat for the CARS LMSC Tour championship.

A total of four victories and 13 Top 5s enabled Kvapil to claim the LMSC Tour crown by 47 points over Connor Hall. Now in his second season with JR Motorsports, Kvapil is determined to kick off his quest for a second consecutive championship by winning at a track he has grown comfortable with in Southern National.

“I’m feeling pretty confident after the success we had last season,” Kvapil said. “We had a good run at Southern National [during the Thanksgiving Classic], but we played the wrong strategy and ended up sixth. Josh [Berry] won, so the setups we had were a good combination for the track, so as long as we stay out of trouble, we’ll be just fine.”

Kvapil knew finding success with JR Motorsports out of the gate would come down to being attentive with the advice being passed down to him.

With several prominent people to lean on that included Berry and his boss Dale Earnhardt Jr., Kvapil never felt out of place amongst the LMSC Tour veterans and rookies. Now that he has a championship season under his belt, Kvapil believes he can improve upon the dominance he showed with JR Motorsports last year.

Consistency is Kvapil’s main goal for 2023, but he understands a target is going to be on his back every single weekend. With drivers like Hall, Chad McCumbee and Cale Gale also going for the 2023 title, one bad race could be crucial in determining whether or not Kvapil gets to defend his crown.

For Kvapil, the best way for him to once again open the season in victory lane is to be fast from the moment his car hits the track for practice. While tire conservation is expected to be a factor at Southern National, Kvapil hopes to be up front through all 125 laps to avoid potential chaos in such a large field.

“A lot of [Saturday] will come down to qualifying good,” Kvapil said. “Everybody is going to ride to an extent, but being towards the front is going to help a bunch, as you’re less likely to get yourself into trouble. Being there at the end will be the key to success.”

Brenden Queen rides momentum into Puryear Tank Lines 225

Of all the Late Model Stock drivers entered in Saturday’s 125-lap feature at Southern National, Brenden Queen easily has the most momentum of the group.

In three races with Lee Pulliam Performance, Queen has notched two victories in the South Carolina 400 at Florence Motor Speedway and the Battle of the Stars at New River All-American Speedway, which is why he heads to Southern National with confidence on his side.

“[Those wins] are a huge deal for the [Lee Pulliam Performance] organization,” Queen said. “I’m honestly speechless and I’m so thankful everything has gone our way lately. Adding a couple of crown jewel wins to the resume is so cool.”

Having won three consecutive track championships at Langley Speedway, Queen knew he needed to branch away from his home track to fully showcase his talents, but the funding never materialized for him to do so with his family-owned operation.

The chance for Queen to even drive for Pulliam’s operation would not have been possible without the guidance of his crew chief Phil Warren. A seven-time Langley champion, Warren taught Queen all the fundamentals of navigating the facility, which gradually turned him into the track’s best Late Model Stock driver.

Queen has utilized all of Warren’s knowledge in his first few races with Pulliam. He is determined to keep the victories coming in the CARS LMSC Tour so he can continue the proud tradition of success long Pulliam has maintained in the discipline for over a decade.

“If we keep working hard and stay confident, we can accomplish so much,” Queen said. “I’m so excited to do it with a great group of guys and I love to see Lee Pulliam smile when we pull into victory lane. That man works so hard, and he doesn’t get to drive like he used to, so [winning races] is the only way we get to repay him.”

Katie Hettinger begins hunt for PLM Tour title with Anthony Campi

Katie Hettinger came away from the World Series of Asphalt at New Smyrna Speedway with plenty to smile about.

On the fifth night, Hettinger fended off a talented field of 27 cars to earn her first career Pro Late Model victory driving for Anthony Campi Racing. The win came as a cathartic moment for Hettinger while simultaneously providing her plenty of optimism heading into her first full-time CARS PLM Tour season with Campi.

“We definitely needed a win, and we were so close all week [in the World Series],” Hettinger said. “It still hasn’t sunk in and I’m still super pumped about it, but that showed we’re going to have a really great car this year for the CARS Tour.”

Being able to work with Campi and Super Late Model veteran Casey Roderick has helped Hettinger fine-tune multiple aspects of her driving style, especially when it comes to restarts and how to find speed on each different line.

With Campi’s experience to lean on, Hettinger finds herself in a great position to become the first woman to win a championship in either CARS Tour decision, but she will have to fend off a small but talented group of drivers that include last year’s PLM Tour runner-up in Caden Kvapil.

Hettinger is currently focused on putting together a flawless weekend at Southern National, but said a crucial component in pursuing a PLM Tour championship will come down to building chemistry with everyone at Campi’s operation so that she is contention to win all 13 races on the calendar.

“I need to stay focused and work hard with the team,” Hettinger said. “During the summer, I want to go down to Florida a few times so I can hang out at [Campi’s] shop and help them work on the cars. I want to grow with the team throughout the year, but I know I’m going to get a good car every weekend because my guys bust their butts. We’re going to have a good shot [at the title].”

The 2023 season for the CARS Tour formally gets underway at 3 p.m. ET on Saturday afternoon. The PLM Tour opens the day’s festivities at Southern National with a 100-lap race, which will be followed by the LMSC Tour feature.

What To Expect At Southern National

With 17 degrees of banking in the turns, race fans should expect to see exciting racing on the Southern National Motorsports Park high-banks. An increased purse for the Late Model Stock Car portion of the event, which features a $12,000 winner's check, will create even more intensity for the competition.

In total, a field of more than 50 Late Models are expected to compete with the CARS Tour at Southern National. The latest entry list features the names of 33 Late Model Stock Car drivers and 23 Pro Late Model drivers.

The entry lists feature an interesting mixture of veterans and rising stars in the motorsports world. Deac McCaskill (2015 & 2016) and Brandon Pierce (2019) are the only drivers on the entry lists who have won CARS Tour races at Southern National.

Counting CARS: 3 Takeaways from the CARS Tour Pro Late Model Season Opener

LUCAMA, N.C – The new era of the zMAX CARS Tour is officially underway, as the Pro Late Model division hit the track for the first time in 2024 this past Saturday (March 2) at Southern National Motorsports Park. The pro’s season opener saw a stacked field, and it was Kyle Campbell who picked up his first career win with the series at race’s end.

The race marked the beginning of season three for the Pro Late Models, as the series came into existence ahead of the 2022 season replacing the former Super Late Model Series for the Tour. For the second year in a row, the season kicked off at Southern National, this time with a much larger car count than the 2023 season opener.

With the third largest car count the series has ever seen, a first time winner, and some unfortunate circumstances out west, its now time to shift our focus to the Late Model Stock car division next Saturday (March 9). Here are three of the biggest takeaways from the Pro Late Model season opener.

A Win for the Underdogs

For any series, especially one that has struggled to find its footing at times, having some consistent front runners in every race, a group of drivers that you can count on to give the fans a show, is extremely important. However, it’s always nice to see someone new take one for the underdogs.

That is exactly what Campbell did this past Saturday at Southern National. Not only did Campbell pick up his first career win in what was his twelfth start with the series, he did so in convincing fashion.

Campbell started off the day strong, laying down a fast lap in qualifying that had the family owned No. 03 lined up outside the second row in fourth. At the drop of the green flag for the 100 lap feature, Campbell maintained his position inside the top five, all the while taking care of his equipment in order to have something left at the end.

An early caution allowed him to line up outside the front row on the ensuing restart, and he made the most of the opportunity, jumping down to the bottom line in the second position. Campbell was able to maintain the second position on the second restart of the day at lap 35, as the field then settled in for a long green flag run.

After multiple laps of hounding the rear bumper of then race leader Kris Wright , Campbell was able to get underneath the No. 20 entering turn three, and take the lead for the first time on lap 67. From there, Campbell set the pace for the rest of the way, fighting off Kaden Honeycutt on the final restart with 20 laps to go.

Ultimately, Campbell brought the No. 03 home for his first career win with the series, nearly 1.8 seconds clear of second place finisher Jimmy Renfrew , and the feel good story ended with an emotional victory lane celebration on the front straightaway.

Not only was this Campbell’s first career win, it was the first time he had even led a lap in the series, making it that much more meaningful for the family operation to find themselves in victory lane for the first time. It’s always nice to have a feel good story, especially when that team is never guaranteed to be at the racetrack.

“I’m with the CARS Tour full time this year, as long as our budget allows,” Campbell said. “I think we can make it out to all the races as long as the car stays in one piece.”

Well, he certainly kept the car clean, and put it in victory lane as an added bonus. He’ll leave Southern National with the points lead, setting the team up nicely for a title run should they be able to run the full season.

Shoutout to the Car Count

How about the turnout in the pits for the season opener?

After two seasons, the Pro Late Model division has had some high points along with some low ones, and many wondered how the series would progress in its third season, as the new era of the series begins to take form.

The answer we got this past Saturday at Southern National was all positive. 28 cars were on the entry list for the event, and all 28 started the feature, making it the third highest car count the series has ever seen.

The series record is a whopping 53, a record that was set at North Wilkesboro Speedway in 2023, followed by the 29 cars that showed up to the spring event at Hickory Motor Speedway also during the 2023 season. This weekend’s race comes up one car short of that, but still starts the series off on the right foot for what looks to be the most competitive season yet for the pro’s.

In fact, 10 of the 28 cars on the entry list made their first start ever, with multiple others making only their second or third start, further signifying the growth that the series has seen even over this past off season.

What separates this race from last season’s race at Hickory is the lack of wrecks we saw at Southern National. While only 18 of 29 cars finished the race at Hickory in 2023, only one car left the opener at Southern National with significant damage: the No. 4 of Adam Murray .

For a series that tends to sort of fall off the rails sometimes when it comes to on-track incidents, its a positive sign to see a clean race with this many cars. Will this continue throughout the season? Time will tell, the same as it will tell whether or not higher car counts are here to stay.

However, one thing is for certain, and its that unlike 2023, the series has started off in the right direction for 2024.

The West Will Have to Wait

On the other side of the country, the all-new zMAX CARS Tour Pro Late Model West Series was also scheduled to make its debut this past Saturday, but mother nature had other plans.

The series was supposed to take center stage Saturday night following the racing on the east coast, set for a 100-lap main event at Kevin Harvick’s Kern Raceway in Bakersfield, Calif. However, with inclement weather on the horizon, series officials elected to make the call well in advance to postpone the inaugural event to a later date.

The series will still debut at Kern Raceway, with the event now scheduled to run Saturday night on March 16, so fans will only have to wait two more weeks for the highly anticipated debut of the Tour’s West expansion.

The zMAX CARS Tour Late Model Stock Cars will be in action this Saturday, March 9, for its season opener at Southern National Motorsports Park. Meanwhile, the Pro Late Models are now off until it heads to Hickory Motor Speedway on Saturday, April 6, and the aforementioned Pro Late Models West will be in action at Kevin Harvick’s Kern Raceway on March 16.

Shane Gillis struggles in a 'Saturday Night Live' monologue that avoids the obvious

Shane Gillis returned to host Saturday Night Live five years after he was fired from the show. Above, Gillis performs at the Stand Up For Heroes Benefit in November 2023 in New York City.

Anyone who thought comic Shane Gillis would emerge confident and defiant, hosting Saturday Night Live nearly five years after he was fired from the cast amid a backlash over racist and transphobic jokes, had to be a little disappointed with his monologue last night.

Comedian Shane Gillis Fired From 'Saturday Night Live' For Racist Remarks

Comedian Shane Gillis Fired From 'Saturday Night Live' For Racist Remarks

Gillis didn't spend much time joking about the controversy or the rise in his comedy career that led him to return to the show. "Don't look that up," he cracked seconds after walking onstage to greet the audience. "If you don't know who I am, please don't Google that."

There wouldn't be any gloating or in-your-face jokes. Instead, Gillis moved on quickly, turning in an uneasy opening monologue punctuated with slight stabs at being naughty. He joked that "every little boy is just their mom's gay best friend" and offered a bit about how people with Down syndrome – including relatives — are some of the happiest people he knows.

As the monologue wore on, Gillis seemed increasingly uncomfortable – even for a comic whose onstage persona is a slightly awkward, sorta doofus. More than once, he quipped that he expected a joke to get a bigger laugh, noting at one point, "This place is extremely well-lit. I can see everyone not enjoying it." (laughter in the room where SNL broadcasts from sometimes sounds louder to viewers at home than to the performers onstage.)

An ingenious response

But in some ways, it was an ingenious response to the backlash Saturday Night Live faced in bringing him on as a host. Viewers who might be aware of the criticism but didn't spend time looking over the podcasts where he dropped racial slurs, antisemitic language and homophobic/transphobic quips likely watched his monologue and wondered what the fuss was about. Gillis may be attempting something that's increasingly tough to do in a media world where every podcast and standup gig is recorded and uploaded somewhere – talking to his core audience in a way that is more explicit and button-pushing than the comedy he offers for a more general audience, like his Netflix special or Saturday Night Live .

Unfortunately, I spent time listening to some of that podcast material before the SNL episode. So I felt more cynical watching him joke about how his sister adopted three Black children and married an Egyptian man, so visiting their house was "like getting in the craziest Uber pool you've ever been in." Or seeing him reference how he and his family established a coffee shop in their hometown where people with Down syndrome can work. Or the joke that got the biggest laugh, where he imagined his niece with Down syndrome being insulted by a white kid at school and then a group of "three Black kids come flying out of nowhere and just start whaling on that cracker." (Why exactly would they do that? And why does race matter here? I know – I'm overthinking. But it just felt like a lazy excuse to give the crowd a joke about a slur-slinging white person getting some comeuppance.)

In 'Baby J,' John Mulaney's jokes are all at the expense of one person: John Mulaney

Pop Culture Happy Hour

In 'baby j,' john mulaney's jokes are all at the expense of one person: john mulaney.

Much of it felt like Gillis' attempt to insulate himself from criticism and avoid any jokes that could revive the backlash. But since he also didn't really explain or explore the controversy swirling around his appearance, it all took on the feel of an opportunity missed. Or a subject ducked. My cynicism extended to the other sketches and bits in the show, which often felt like they could have been inspired by the rambling jokes on his podcasts. This stuff included a skit where Gillis is the patriarch of a white family visiting a Black church in Jamaica – allowing him to use a terrible Jamaican accent for a few jokes – to the game show where he played a white man who pretended not to recognize Martin Luther King Jr. and Oprah because he was afraid to say the wrong name on TV. (One of his opponents was a Black woman who didn't recognize the Mona Lisa or Michelangelo's statue of David, which stung even worse.)

The fate of comedy rebels

Saturday Night Live made its reputation as a group of comedy rebels making fun of a stuffy political and media establishment, lampooning corrupt and inept politicians from Richard Nixon to Sarah Palin; in other words, punching up. But today's comedy rebels see the insistence that comics lay off insulting slurs about marginalized people as the new establishment — building successful podcasts, standup tours and more on the mistaken notion that avoiding racism, sexism and homophobia is somehow shackling their free speech. Here, punching down is fair game and fairly lucrative. I'd feel more tolerant about all of this stuff if I thought these comics were saying anything new about race, gender or society. If they were pushing boundaries to bring new ideas to the table — instead of complaining about how crude they're not allowed to be — at least we'd be talking about important comedic concepts.

But Gillis' turn on SNL last night felt more like an attempt to court a new demographic and poke a bit at liberal sensibilities, allowing longtime executive producer Lorne Michaels to still feel like a rebel rather than the Lord of Showbiz Comedy he has become. In the process, viewers got an OK episode that, more than anything, might leave them wondering why a middling talent like Gillis got tapped to host the show in the first place.

Kate middleton seen in public for first time since mystery hospitalization, kate middleton spotted in public for first time ... since hospitalization, breaking news 2.1k 3/4/2024 10:23 am pt.

Kate Middleton has surfaced for the first time since her hospitalization earlier this year that sidelined her for a good while -- and she's maintaining a low profile ... or trying to anyway.

The Princess of Wales was seen riding passenger Monday in a vehicle that was being driven by her mother, Carole , near Windsor Castle in the UK ... and like we said, this sighting is a big deal considering we haven't seen her whatsoever since December.

Kate was wearing shades, and appeared to be rocking somewhat of a smile here -- there didn't appear to be any other relatives with them for this outing ... and ditto for security.

It's interesting that she's popping up like this right now ... frankly, the internet has been rife with speculation these past couple weeks over her whereabouts -- and there's been a lot of jokes made at her expense.

Point is though ... people have been wondering where the heck she was and how she was doing -- especially since the condition she's been dealing with has been kept under tight wraps ... with Royal officials only saying she underwent abdominal surgery and nothing else.

Buckingham Palace only said at the time that she would remain hospitalized for about 2 weeks -- and after that, she wouldn't be able to resume her duties until about Easter time.

They also reassured the public that she was making progress in her recovery -- something they reiterated last week when they finally responded to all the viral conjecture going on.

We know Prince William has been coming to her side throughout all this -- he was seen going to the hospital while she was in there ... but since then, he's continued on with his work solo.

Her father-in-law, King Charles , has also been dealing with health issues -- due to his recent cancer diagnosis -- but he's been able to carry on just fine ... already being seen out and about.

Good to see Kate here ... now we all know, she's alive and well!

Moscow Metro

Introduction of moscow subway system (metro).

Richly Decorated Central Hall of Novokuznetskaya Station

Nowadays the Moscow Metro has 12 lines, light subway and monorail. All stations are unique and beautiful in their own way. Unfortunately, in order to visit them all, you need to spend many days. I invite guests to visit the ones that have the greatest cultural and historical interest from my point of view. Among them are the Revolution Square, Arbatskaya, Kievskaya (Arbatsko-Pokrovskaya Line № 3); Kievskaya, Belarusskaya, Novoslobodskaya, Komsomolskaya (the Ring line number 5). Let us dwell a bit on each.

Arbatsko-Pokrovskaya Line

Subway station "revolution square".

Sign “Ploshchad Revolyutsii” in Archway with Bronze Figures

Most recently - in the year 2008-2010 – the Eastern lobby was renovated. Because of the terrorist attacks in the Moscow subway that took place several hours before the planned opening of the East lobby after renovation, the solemn part of the event was canceled.

Subway station Arbatskaya

Subway Arbatskaya is located on the same subway line as the station "Revolution Square." It was founded in 1953. It received the name in honor of the Arbat Street. It has one ground lobby (Western). Initially, the lobby was in a separate building, but the new building of the General Staff of the Ministry of Defense started, the lobby appeared to be in its atrium. The old exits were bricked up; a new entrance was built into the building of General Staff of the street Vozdvizhenka. There is a huge frame with a missing portrait in the ground lobby - until mid-1950 there was a portrait of Stalin. According to some reports, it survived, but closed with plaster.

The lobby was restored and partially reconstructed in 2007-2008.

The depth of the station is 41 meters.

Pylons are finished with red marble at the bottom, decorated with bouquets of flowers made from ceramics. The floor is laid out with gray granite. The walls lined with glazed ceramic tiles, white top and black bottom. The station hall is illuminated by massive bronze chandeliers in the form of rings.

Subway station Kievskaya

There are several subway stations "Kievskaya" in Moscow, located on different branches. This name is quite popular. It comes from the capital of Ukraine - one of Russia's nearest neighbors - the city of Kiev. The name is fully consistent with the idea of the subway station. The interior the station devoted to Soviet Ukraine and the reunification of Ukraine and Russia. The station is decorated with a large number of paintings .Twenty four murals depicting workers of Soviet Ukraine are placed on the arch above the pylons. The wall from the side of platform also contains frescos, mainly with images of fantastic plants. Pylons are decorated with light marble and additionally decorated with colorful ceramic cornice. The butt of the station has a large mosaic, depicting festivities to celebrate the 300 anniversary of the reunification of Ukraine and Russia.

Opened in 1953, this subway station for a long time was the final (1953-2003).

The station has one lobby, combined with the station ring line and located in the building of the Kievskaya railway station. The diameter of the central hall station is 9.5 m, the diameter of side one is 8.5 m. The depth of the station is 38 meters.

= Ring Line Subway =

It opened in 1954. The station received its name after the Kiev station, and locked the Ring line. During the construction of the station many projects were proposed, but the victory in the competition won the Kiev architects who made the construction of the station. It is the only station of the Ring Line which is not located in the Central Administrative District of Moscow.

The station has a pylon structure. Eighteen pylons are decorated with mosaic panels of glazes, decorated on the theme of Ukrainian history and friendship between the Ukrainian and Russian peoples, which started in the mid-17 century.

On the front wall of the central hall of the station a large panel with molding in the form of flags and a mosaic portrait of Lenin in the center are located. There are lines of the Soviet national anthem around the portrait, and under the portrait - the words of Lenin. One of the ways out of the station was designed by French architects modeled on the Paris Subway in 2006.

At one of the mosaics – “The Struggle for Soviet power in Ukraine "- modern passengers observe a mobile phone and PDA in the hand of one of the guerrillas, and on his knees - a laptop. In fact, he uses a field telephone, which was really a heavy thing (guerrillas holds it in two hands), and thing that people see a laptop is the lid of a box with a telephone. However, these phones have begun to produce only in the second half of the 20-ies of XX century. We must assume that the mosaic depicts a foreign field telephone transmitter.

Subway station Belorusskaya

The founded of the station was in 1952. It received the name after the Belarusian railway station nearby. The station has two ground-based lobbies. The Western one goes to Tverskaya  Zastava. It is decorated with beautiful carvings. The Eastern one leads to Butyrskiy shaft and Forest Street. The Eastern lobby is known for its majolica panels.

The station Belorusskaya is located at a depth of 42.5 m below ground. The diameter of the central hall is 9.5 meters.

Pylons are faced with light marble. The walls lined with white ceramic tiles, the floor is covered with ceramic tiles, gray, white and red colors. Lamps placed on pylons, in the form of vases made of glass and marble. The theme of decoration is economy and culture of Belarus. Decorative pattern on the floor repeats the theme of traditional Belarusian embroidery. Decorations of the ceiling consist of stucco decorations and 12 mosaic panels depicting the life of the Belarusian people.

Subway station Novoslobodskaya

Built in 1952, Subway station Novoslobodskaya got its name from the eponymous street:  the station is located at the very beginning of it.

Novoslobodskaya is pylon station of deep foundation (its depth is 40 m) with three arches.

Exit to the street is through the ground lobby with column portico, located on Novoslobodskaya Street lined with gray marble. Pylons of the underground station are faced with marble from the Urals. Thirty two spectacularly illuminated stained-glasses, placed inside the pylon and bordered by steel and gilt brass are splendid decoration of the station. A remarkable mosaic "World Peace" is located at the end of the central hall. The picture depicts a happy mother with a baby in her arms; it was the face of Stalin at the picture: the child gave a hand to him. But in times of Khrushchev the face of the former leader of USSR was removed from the panel. The walls are lined with bright marble; floor is covered with white and black granite slabs, placed in a checkerboard pattern.

Subway station Komsomolskaya

The station was built in 1952 and named in honor of the Komsomolskaya Square, which is situated nearby.

This subway station is the station of the deep bedding. Its depth is 37 meters. The station has column and three- arched design. Cast iron decoration is used in the construction, monolithic slab used as a tray for a collapsible finishing. The length of the boarding hall is 190 meters; width of it is 10 meters. There are 68 octagonal columns at station.

The main theme of the interior of the station is the fighting of the Russian people for their independence. The ceiling is decorated with eight station mosaic mural made from glazes and precious stones. Six of them represent the Alexander Nevsky, Dmitry Donskoy, Kuzma Minin and Dmitry Pozharsky, Alexander Suvorov and Mikhail Kutuzov, the Soviet soldiers and officers at the walls of the Reichstag.

Two other panels, depicting Stalin ("Victory Parade" and "Presentation of the Guards Banner"), were replaced after the dethronement of Stalin's personality cult in 1963. New panels depict Lenin's speech in front of the Red Guards and the Motherland on the background of the Kremlin's Spasskaya Tower.

The yellow ceiling is decorated with mosaic and moldings. The hall is illuminated by massive chandeliers hanging between the panels; platforms are illuminated with smaller chandeliers. The columns are decorated with marble capitals and trimmed with light marble, as well as the wall station. The floor is laid with pink granite. There is a bust of Lenin at the end of the hall. At the opposite end of the escalator is a large Florentine mosaic of the Order of Victory with red banners on the background. The ground lobby of the station is decorated with bas-reliefs.

In conclusion...

Each of the stations of the Moscow subway is attractive and interesting in its own way. Each has its own long and fascinating history and is beautifully decorated. The Moscow subway is a whole world, which can be talking about for hours. I suggest you short - no more than one hour and a half - and a fascinating journey through the world of the Moscow subway. The pleasure is guaranteed!

Fun facts from our Moscow Metro Tours:

From the very first days of its existence, the Moscow Metro was the object of civil defense, used as a bomb shelter, and designed as a defense for a possible attack on the Soviet Union.

At a depth of 50 to 120 meters lies the second, the coded system of Metro-2 of Moscow subway, which is equipped with everything you need, from food storage to the nuclear button.

According to some sources, the total length of Metro-2 reaches over 150 kilometers.

The Museum was opened on Sportivnaya metro station on November 6, 1967. It features the most interesting models of trains and stations.

Coffee Ring

The first scheme of Moscow Metro looked like a bunch of separate lines. Listen to a myth about Joseph Stalin and the main brown line of Moscow Metro.

Zodiac Metro

According to some astrologers, each of the 12 stops of the Moscow Ring Line corresponds to a particular sign of the zodiac and divides the city into astrological sector.

Astrologers believe that being in a particular zadiac sector of Moscow for a long time, you attract certain energy and events into your life.

Paleontological finds

Red marble walls of some of the Metro stations hide in themselves petrified inhabitants of ancient seas. Try and find some!

  • Every day each car in  Moscow metro passes  more than 600 km, which is the distance from Moscow to St. Petersburg.
  • Moscow subway system is the  5th in the intensity  of use (after the subways of Beijing, Tokyo, Seoul and Shanghai).

Moscow Metro

The Moscow Metro Tour is included in most guided tours’ itineraries. Opened in 1935, under Stalin’s regime, the metro was not only meant to solve transport problems, but also was hailed as “a people’s palace”. Every station you will see during your Moscow metro tour looks like a palace room. There are bright paintings, mosaics, stained glass, bronze statues… Our Moscow metro tour includes the most impressive stations best architects and designers worked at - Ploshchad Revolutsii, Mayakovskaya, Komsomolskaya, Kievskaya, Novoslobodskaya and some others.

What is the kremlin in russia?

The guide will not only help you navigate the metro, but will also provide you with fascinating background tales for the images you see and a history of each station.

And there some stories to be told during the Moscow metro tour! The deepest station - Park Pobedy - is 84 metres under the ground with the world longest escalator of 140 meters. Parts of the so-called Metro-2, a secret strategic system of underground tunnels, was used for its construction.

During the Second World War the metro itself became a strategic asset: it was turned into the city's biggest bomb-shelter and one of the stations even became a library. 217 children were born here in 1941-1942! The metro is the most effective means of transport in the capital.

There are almost 200 stations 196 at the moment and trains run every 90 seconds! The guide of your Moscow metro tour can explain to you how to buy tickets and find your way if you plan to get around by yourself.
