People from Toronto can now apply to live out their dreams working for Disney

Latest Videos

If you're looking for a career change and are craving a little magic in your day-to-day, you may want to contemplate applying for a once-in-a-lifetime position at Disney, which is holding hiring events in Toronto this month.

According to online postings, the entertainment giant is taking on new talent for shows on its cruise ships — among other roles — and is looking for people of all genders and ethnicities from Toronto.

Applicants to Disney Cruise Line should be experienced, versatile dancers in their 20s and 30s who possess theatrical storytelling skills to help put on "the highest caliber entertainment at sea," all based on our favourite childhood classics from the brand.

Those selected can expect to play characters from the Little Mermaid, Cinderella, Alladin, Mulan, Frozen, Spider-Man and more, both on-stage and at meet-and-greets and other events.

Open calls will run out of Studio North Toronto at 374A Dupont Street, starting with dancer auditions at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Monday, April 8. A call for character performers will take place at the same times on Tuesday, April 9, followed by a call for shipboard performers at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, April 24.

Training and rehearsals will then take place in Toronto for around six weeks before teams depart for about six months of cruising on a work contract that includes travel, room and board, competitive pay and a "significant contract completion bonus."

Along with Disney Cruise Line entertainers, Disney is also seeking actors and dancers from Toronto to work as character lookalikes at its resort in Shanghai. The open call for those jobs takes place at the famed Elgin Winter Garden Theatre (189 Yonge Street) at 12:30 on Friday, May 3.

Those interested should note that the Disney Cruise Line auditions do require  online registration  beforehand (Disney Resort Shanghai tryouts do not).

5 Easy Ways You Can Work From Home for Disney and Disney-Themed Jobs

A re you a Disney fan who loves to visit Disney theme parks, stay at Disney resorts and sail the high seas on Disney cruises? Pride yourself on planning the perfect Disney getaways that leave lasting joy-filled memories? Believe it or not, you can turn your passion for Disney vacations into a lucrative career that you can do from the comfort of home. And, just like a Disney getaway, you'll have lots of fun doing it. Here, work-from-home Disney jobs where you can work for the company or us your Disney expertise to cash in on your own. (Click through to see beyond Disney ways to make money working from home .)

Can I work for Disney from home?

There are several options for turning your Disney know-how into an at-home job: You can work directly for The Walt Disney Company by searching for remote positions on its job board, which includes answering questions from callers as an official Disney Guest Services Representative. Or you can work independently by helping fellow Disney enthusiasts learn about and plan their next Disney vacation by sharing your expertise on the phone, in blog posts, through videos, and on social media…all while getting paid!

And there are lots of folks who are looking for your Disney vacation-planning help! Indeed, 75 million folks visited Disney's theme parks in 2022 alone.

Every year, millions book a room at one of Disney's 25 resorts. And the popular Disney Cruise Line, which visits more than a dozen destinations around the world, has been named the best cruise line for families 9 years in a row by US News & World Repor t.

Many vacationers are taking their first Disney trip, while repeat visitors want to learn about Disney experiences they haven't tried yet. This means you get to share your insider knowledge about the most magical place on Earth with other Disney fans who are eager to hear it!

5 easy ways to work from home for Disney

If you'd like to turn your love of Disney into a paying career that you can do remotely, read on for all the options available to you right now.

1. Disney work-from-home job: Provide guest support for The Walt Disney Company

While The Walt Disney Company largely employs people who work in person or on a hybrid basis, the official job board also includes remote positions that you can do from home. It's smart to bookmark this page and come back to check it regularly. That's because Disney has hired remote Guest Services Representatives who live in certain states, such as Florida, Illinois, Kentucky and Virginia. And when new openings come up, you'll find them posted here .

As a Guest Services Representative, you'll get to talk with Disney enthusiasts like you about your favorite topic: Disney! You'll use phone, email and live online chat to answer their questions, for example, about information they need or issues they're having with their Disney shopping orders. To qualify to apply, you'll need a high school diploma along with a phone, computer and reliable Internet access.

Pay has recently been $12 per hour, and depending on how many hours you work, you may qualify for benefits that include health insurance assistance, paid vacation and free tuition . And, of course, you'd get Disney perks, too, such as complimentary Disney theme park admission and discounts on other Disney activities.

2. Disney work-from-home job: Help Disney vacationers as a Disney-themed travel planner

Love the thrill of planning your perfect Disney vacation, picking the ideal dates, booking the best rooms, and arranging a fun-packed itinerary? As a Disney-themed travel planner, you can do the same for folks who want help arranging their perfect trip that includes a Disney theme park, resort or cruise.

In this role, you'd work for a travel company, not Disney, but be your own boss. This means setting your own hours and working anywhere you like. You just need a phone, computer and Internet to help your clients by researching vacation details, creating itineraries, providing quotes and booking travel. Pay is based on commission, which means you'll be earning a percentage of the vacations you help plan. Starting commission is typically 10% to 25% of the total cost of the client's vacation package, and this can increase as you book more trips. In some cases, you'll also qualify for discounts on your own vacations.

A sampling of travel agencies that are inviting new independent Disney-themed travel planners to join them include:

Submit your application, and you'll be contacted about training that's provided and the commission rates you'd earn. To find more travel companies looking for independent Disney-themed travel planners, do an online search for "Authorized Disney Vacation Planner", which are companies that specialize in Disney vacations.

3. Disney work-from-home job: Write online articles about your Disney vacations

Enjoy writing as much as you love taking Disney vacations? You can earn cash as a freelance writer crafting articles about your Disney theme park trips, resort stays and cruises! Websites that specialize in sharing information about Disney vacations are looking for fresh content. And they'll pay you $25 to $75 for each 500- to 1000-word original article they publish.

To get started, visit Disney-themed websites that are seeking writers, like these:

Read their guidelines and check out past articles they've published to find the topics they're looking for and what they've already covered. Then write and submit your own article.

4. Share your Disney expertise on YouTube

Find it easy to talk about your Disney experiences with friends and family at social gatherings? You'd be a natural at hosting your own YouTube channel and starring in videos where you share your Disney expertise, just like the hosts of Mammoth Club , Megan Moves and The Mouselets .

Viewers turn to online videos from Disney fans all the time to get answers to their many questions before booking their own Disney vacation (such as how to find deals, what the new rides are like and which restaurants are best). Not only is it lots of fun to be the star of your own YouTube channel, but as your viewership grows, you could also earn revenue from advertisements that appear before and alongside your videos.

Getting started is easy : Sign up for a free account on YouTube, follow the simple instructions for launching your own channel, then start filming! You'll become eligible to start earning ad revenue when you reach 1,000 subscribers along with 4,000 hours of viewed video within the past year. After you reach these milestones, you can apply to become a YouTube Partner in your YouTube Studio dashboard (in the left menu, click Earn, then Apply).

According to BusinessInsider. com , YouTube content providers earn between $1.61 and $29.30 per 1,000 views. Depending on how many views you get for your videos, you can earn hundreds, or even thousands, of dollars every month.

5. Add links for Disney trips and products to your social media posts or website

Enjoy regularly posting about your latest Disney trips and sharing Disney-related tips on your social media account or website? You can earn cash by joining affiliate programs for companies that sell Disney vacations and merchandise. You just add links to these offers to your posts. Then, when people click through and make a purchase, you get a percentage of the sale as a commission.

Some Disney-related affiliate programs that you can join now include:

Success story: "Planning Disney vacations part-time for others pays for my own Disney vacations and household bills!"

In 2007, Kim Bowers had a life-changing revelation. "Coming home from a Disney vacation, I thought, ‘I want this to be a regular part of my life.' I began to research how to make that happen without moving. I landed on becoming a Disney-focused travel advisor because I had experience with planning and working with families, and I loved the idea of helping families have great vacations."

"I started with Off to Neverland Travel in 2008. Since then, I have planned hundreds of vacations, and also expanded my portfolio to include cruises and other destinations. Planning a Disney vacation, especially one with all the bells and whistles, a first-time visit or a multi-generation trip can be more complex than planning a trip to Europe! So, typically, people come to me overwhelmed by all of the information available online and the opinions they got from friends and co-workers. I step in and help them tune into what really matters for their unique situation. After I help them choose and book a vacation package, I act as their personal pre-travel concierge. I help them build a daily itinerary, then handle all the leg work and provide a customized itinerary.

So, what does the average workday look like for Kim? "A typical day for me involves phone conversations with clients about their plans and researching or booking experiences. Aside from the hotel package, I also book dining reservations, tours, limos…anything a client needs for their trip. I also do a lot of problem-solving, especially for clients with special needs. And it's important to note that while planning Disney vacations is fun, a very important part of my job is being there to help when things go wrong. I jump into action for my clients when they need to change plans due to illness, hurricane warnings, etc. While a client is traveling, I am on call for them should something happen and they need my help, even holidays and weekends."

Kim adds that promotion for her business is also up to her. "As an independent contractor, I have support from my host agency, Off to Neverland Travel, but I am responsible for my own marketing and social media." The upside is that Kim can decide how long she wants to work during any given week. "On average, I work 20 hours per week currently, but it has been more and less over the years."

Plus, there are additional benefits of working as a remote Disney-themed travel planner, Kim notes: "I enjoy the flexibility and independence of working from home. At first, it was great for my kids. Now they are grown and I care for my mother at home, so it's nice for her to have me available."

The extra paycheck has helped Kim live out of her dream of making Disney getaways a regular part of her life. "It can take time to build a client base. Now, in my 15th year, working part-time, I earn enough to fund family trips and pay several household bills."

And on top of it all, she genuinely enjoys what she does. "Vacation time is precious. Whether they are spending $2,000 or $20,000, everyone wants to share experiences and unplug from the everyday. And with Disney, in particular, trips are often a rite of passage or big family celebration so it's wildly important to them for everything to be just right. Helping people provide that for their families, and building relationships with them along the way, is rewarding. Recently, a young mom called, saying, ‘You helped my parents plan our Disney trips when I was a kid and now I want to take my kids. Would you please help us?' What could be better than that?"

Continuing to Turbocharge Disney Experiences

Josh D'Amaro

by Josh D'Amaro , Chairman, Disney Experiences

Earlier today during The Walt Disney Company Annual Meeting of Shareholders, our CEO Bob Iger shared some incredible updates from across the company … including an update at Disney Experiences that I am very excited about.

We were thrilled to unveil a piece of inspirational artwork developed for a potential new Avatar experience at the Disneyland Resort . We are excited about the stories our guests could experience at Walt’s original theme park destination after approval of  DisneylandForward  – including the chance to experience all-new Avatar adventures with a visit to Pandora.

Avatar is the latest example of how we are looking to create new and innovative ways to bring our powerful stories to life. Over the past decade, we’ve delivered massive, immersive experiences at our destinations around the world, including new lands and attractions based on Star Wars, the Avengers, Pixar and more.

This was evident late last year when we opened World of Frozen at Hong Kong Disneyland and, just a month later, Zootopia at Shanghai Disney Resort, where we continue to receive tremendous response from our guests.

We’re keeping that momentum going in 2024. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure opens this year at Magic Kingdom and Disneyland, and we’re about to unveil Fantasy Springs at Tokyo DisneySea, the largest single-land expansion ever at a Disney park. I was in Paris last week and met with the teams who just completed the transformation of the Disneyland Hotel and are now building the Frozen-themed land at our Walt Disney Studios Park.

Our expansion is as active on sea as it is on land. Disney Cruise Line will continue adding to its reputation as the top choice for families as we open a new island destination this summer in the Bahamas, Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point . Then in December we’ll set sail on the next ship to join our fleet, the Disney Treasure .

In the digital realm, our relationship with Epic Games is going to create a new games and entertainment universe that will connect fans and players with our characters in ways we have never done before.

And all of this is just the beginning – there are so many stories in our library yet to be explored. As we turbocharge Disney Experiences over the next 10 years, we’re investing aggressively and thoughtfully to give you more of what you love. There has never been a more exciting time at Disney Experiences. I’m looking forward to having you on this journey with us.

Best possible outcome. Now, as with the Man in Space TV shows that were the catalyst for the U.S. going to the moon, maybe WDI can do the same by presenting renewable energy and future thinking transportation systems in a much needed update to Disneyland’s once inspiring Tomorrowland. How wonderful it would be if a future thinking Tomorrowland could energize those who visit it into building a better world for their children. That is the Disney difference!

What are you doing, in Florida, in response to Epic Universe?

The world is waiting to hear….

I’m hoping that more info will be revealed at the D23 event in August.

Disney Shareholders Officially Reject Nelson Peltz’s Board Bid in Big Win for CEO Bob Iger

Disney CEO Bob Iger, Trian Nelson Peltz

It’s official: Disney shareholders shot down activist investor Nelson Peltz ‘s effort to win seats on the Mouse House’s board of directors. Investors voted to reelect all 12 of the company-backed board members, including CEO Bob Iger , ending the most expensive corporate proxy fight in history.

The voting results for Disney board candidates were announced Wednesday at the company’s 2024 meeting of shareholders, held virtually. Peltz, who heads investment firm Trian Partners, failed to get enough votes in his favor to clinch a board seat (as did Trian’s other nominee, ex-Disney Jay Rasulo).

According to the preliminary results, Iger won reelection with 94% of the votes cast in his favor — while Peltz got just 31% and Rasulo got even less. Maria Elena Lagomasino, the incumbent Disney director whom Trian had urged investors to kick off the board (along with board member Michael Froman), received twice as many votes as Peltz and five times as many as Rasulo.

Disney’s shares closed down 3.1% Wednesday after the shareholder meeting, amid a slight uptick in the broader S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite market indexes.

Investors voted on three competing board candidate slates —  Disney’s own recommended 12-member lineup ; Trian’s nominees, Peltz and Rasulo; and three from Blackwells , which also did not get enough votes to win board seats. Disney shareholders were allowed to cast their votes for a maximum of 12 candidates.

Parker also thanked Iger, “his exceptional management team” and Disney’s employees “for continuing to deliver for consumers and shareholders throughout this distracting proxy battle.”

Iger said in a statement following the vote results, “I want to thank our shareholders for their trust and confidence in our board and management. With the distracting proxy contest now behind us, we’re eager to focus 100% of our attention on our most important priorities: growth and value creation for our shareholders and creative excellence for our consumers.”

Peltz’s Trian had campaigned on a platform of urgently needed change to Disney’s board, citing the media company’s stock underperformance over the last several years and the board’s “botched” succession planning with former CEO Bob Chapek (Iger’s hand-picked successor who was ousted after less than two years). In response, Disney said its board already is conducting a diligent CEO selection process “led by successful CEOs with recent, highly praised succession experience.”

Peltz’s defeat is a vote of confidence in Iger and the current board. And it’s certainly a relief for Iger, who must have been dreading the prospect of dealing with Peltz directly as a board member. Iger  commented on Peltz’s proxy fight  at a Morgan Stanley conference last month, saying, “This campaign is designed to distract us. I am working really hard to not let this distract me, because when I get distracted everybody who works for me gets distracted, and that’s not a good thing.”

That said, Peltz’s insurgency has drawn attention to Disney’s CEO succession plan — and the question of who will be named to replace Iger when his contract expires at the end of 2026. Influential advisory firm Institutional Shareholder Services had recommended shareholders elect Peltz to the Disney board  (but not Rasulo) citing in part Disney’s “failed” CEO succession planning process.

Disney has struggled to find someone to take over the CEO job from Iger. In 2019, Iger announced that he planned to leave two years later when his then-contract expired. Iger quipped at the time, “I was going to say, ‘This time I mean it,’ but I’ve said that before.” The board reinstalled Iger as chief executive in November 2022 after firing Chapek.

Trian, in a statement following the shareholder vote, said: “While we are disappointed with the outcome of this proxy contest, Trian greatly appreciates all of the support and dialogue we have had with Disney stakeholders. We are proud of the impact we have had in refocusing this company on value creation and good governance. Since we reengaged with the company in late 2023, Disney has announced a host of new operating initiatives and capital improvement plans.” Trian also noted that Disney’s board has been “refreshed” with two new directors — Morgan Stanley executive chairman James Gorman and former Sky CEO Jeremy Darroch.

Disney  had lobbied shareholders to reject Peltz and Rasulo for the board (along with the Blackwells nominees). The company said Peltz “brings no media experience and has presented no strategic ideas for Disney” and called Trian’s proxy fight “disruptive and destructive,”  fueled by Peltz’s “vanity” and a personal grudge against Iger held by ex-Marvel Entertainment chief Ike Perlmutter (who had pooled his shares with Trian’s holdings in the proxy fight).

In agitating for a board seat, Peltz argued that Disney’s directors weren’t adequately holding Iger accountable in key areas. One of the recommendations in Trian’s lengthy white paper analyzing Disney’s operations was that the board require management to develop a “clear” streaming strategy with “tangible goals that will achieve Netflix-like margins of 15%-20% by 2027.” Trian also urged Disney to take more “shots on goal” and increase creative risks outside of its core franchises to achieve a better return on its streaming content (similar to Netflix).

Peltz, in a recent interview with the Financial Times,  questioned Disney’s “woke” Marvel films  featuring Black and women superheroes — including “Black Panther,” which grossed $1.35 billion at the worldwide box office — asking rhetorically, “Why do I have to have a Marvel [movie] that’s all women? Not that I have anything against women, but why do I have to do that? Why can’t I have Marvels that are both? Why do I need an all-Black cast?” Trian’s white paper had recommended that Disney’s board initiate a “comprehensive… review of studio operations and culture, including leadership, processes and workflow” and “prioritize new intellectual property to reignite the ‘flywheel’ and drive Disney’s long-term growth.”

Iger, speaking last fall at the New York Times’ DealBook Summit, acknowledged that Disney productions should focus on storytelling rather than advocating particular agendas. “Creators lost sight of what their No. 1 objective needed to be. We have to entertain first. It’s not about messages,” Iger said.

On Wednesday, in response to a shareholder-submitted question asking, “Is it possible for Disney to stay out of political and social agendas and just provide entertainment?”, Iger responded: “Our job is to entertain first and foremost and by telling stories… I’ve always believed that we have responsibility to do good in the world. But we know our job is not to advance any kind of agenda. So as long as I’m in the job, I’m going to continue to be guided by a sense of decency and respect. And we will always trust our instincts.”

Not unreasonably, Trian has argued that “the pressure of our proxy contest pushing Disney to perform” contributed to the stock’s recent rise. Peltz in January 2023 had threatened a proxy fight with Disney. However, by Feb. 9, Peltz suspended his for a board seat  after Disney unveiled a broad restructuring of operations with Iger’s return as CEO.

The showdown is believed to be the priciest proxy fight in U.S. history. Disney disclosed that it expected costs for the board battle to be in around $40 million, given its get-out-the-vote effort to sway individual investors (who hold more than one-third of the company’s shares). Trian estimated it could spend upwards of $25 million and Blackwells expected to spend around $6 million.

Prior to the votes being tallied at the meeting, Disney gave Peltz three minutes to present his case to shareholders. He reiterated previous points (saying Trian’s objective is to help turn around companies that have “perhaps stumbled”) and praised the company as having “some of the greatest brands in entertainment.” Blackwells declined Disney’s offer to provide a statement the meeting, according to Gutierrez.

Blackwells said in a statement following the announcement of the preliminary shareholder vote results, “Blackwells’ primary objective was achieved – keeping Nelson Peltz out of the Disney boardroom. The company would have benefited from any one of our candidates for the hard work needed over the next few years to advance this iconic company, but we respect the will of the shareholders and the outcome. Disney, for its part, showed that it needs to be more focused on transparency and truly acting in the best interests of all its shareholders.”

Blackwells added, however, that it will continue to pursue its litigation against Disney alleging the company has a potential conflict of interest with investment firm ValueAct Capital. Disney and ValueAct announced an “information sharing” deal in January , along with ValueAct’s support for the company’s recommended slate of board nominees. According to the Blackwells lawsuit, filed March 28 in Delaware chancery court, ValueAct was responsible in 2022 for managing more than $350 million in Disney pension fund assets and was paid “perhaps as much as $95 million in fees for its money-management services to Disney.” A Disney spokesman called Blackwells’ allegations “baseless” and a “desperate attempt to gain attention for their slate of director candidates,” saying ValueAct does not currently manage any of Disney’s pension funds (nor did it when Disney and ValueAct announced their agreement earlier this year).

With the vote Wednesday, all 12 current Disney directors were reelected:

  • Disney CEO Bob Iger
  • Mark Parker, chairman of the Disney board and executive chairman of Nike
  • Mary Barra, chair and CEO of GM
  • Oracle CEO Safra Catz
  • Amy Chang, former senior executive at Cisco Systems and Google and current director of Procter & Gamble

  • Calvin McDonald, CEO of Lululemon Athletica
  • Derica Rice, a former senior executive at CVS Health and Eli Lilly & Co. and a current director of the Carlyle Group, Bristol-Myers Squibb and Target
  • Morgan Stanley executive chairman James Gorman
  • Former Sky chief Jeremy Darroch

Artist Profile: Caitlin A. Beirne ’25 — From Disney Cruises to Spelling Bees, Caitlin Beirne is Living the Dream

Ever since sailing on her first Disney Cruise at 16, Caitlin A. Beirne ’25 wanted nothing more than to be one of the performers aboard. Little did she know that right after her sophomore year of college she would get the chance to do just that — and the story is nothing short of spectacular.

Beirne’s love of music started early and was influenced heavily by her father, a member of the military who was deployed for the first five years of her life. Even so, he found the time to share his passion for music with Beirne.

“Whenever he would come back from his trips, we would sing together and watch ‘American Idol’ together,” Beirne said. “The two of us in our family — we have a family of five — loved music and loved performing. Apparently, my parents say I was too shy to actually sing for other people.”

As she continued to sing, Beirne grew out of her shell and eventually her love of theater fell right into place. Beirne joined her elementary school drama club and there was no turning back from there as she fully immersed herself in the performing arts.

“Sixth grade was when I really started being in a rehearsal every day, [being] in theater classes, and singing,” Beirne said.

How Beirne ended up as part of the cast aboard Disney’s ship the Disney Wish, however, sounds like something straight out of a movie: She was scouted while singing karaoke.

“I was singing in karaoke — probably singing ‘Part of Your World’ to be quite honest — and a music director for Disney was walking by, just happened to be walking by,” Beirne said.

The director had heard her singing and proceeded to have a “mini voice lesson” with Beirne.

“We sang together for an hour, through Disney stuff [and some] technique,” Beirne said. “We talked about possibly auditioning in the future and he was optimistic that things might go well. And I said, okay, well, let me try.”

Beirne’s career as a Disney Cruise Line performer seems meant to be, as Beirne just so happened to be in New York the same weekend of the professional audition — her Theater, Dance & Media class was on a trip in the city then. All she had to do was figure out how to stay in the area for one more night and get to the audition the next morning. After a six-week-long audition process, Beirne made it to callbacks and was offered the job in May 2022.

All the pieces were falling into place and Beirne was about to live her dream; however, the process to prepare for the upcoming performances were grueling. To get ship-ready, Beirne spent ten weeks in Toronto rehearsing before finally moving aboard the Disney Wish.

“I lived on a ship for eight and a half months.” Beirne said. “I was performing around 13 to 14 shows a week — and I absolutely loved it. If I could go back tomorrow, I would.”

One of Beirne’s favorite shows to perform was “The Little Mermaid,” in which she played Flounder. This was a full-circle moment for Beirne, whose favorite Disney song is “Part Of Your World”: She had even played Flounder in a production put on by her regional theater when she was in the eighth grade. Not only that, but for her performance on the cruise she learned an entirely new skill — puppeteering.

“I never in my life thought I would get to puppeteer,” Beirne said.

Beyond expanding her repertoire on stage, the time that Beirne spent on the Disney Wish helped her develop her leadership skills. While on the ship, Beirne served as the vocal captain for her team, graduated from the Disney Emerging Leaders Program, and was a Disney trainer. Each of these opportunities provided Beirne with the room to grow as an individual and develop lifelong skills.

Beyond her commitment to musical theater, however, Beirne also participates in the Air Force ROTC and is enrolled in the Harvard-Berklee Dual Degree Program.

“I loved having the experience and also taking things that you learned in theater class and things you learn at Berklee — not just textbooks, but music classes — and then putting it into real life was really exciting to see,” Beirne said.

Beirne’s enthusiasm for new experiences has not waned. At Harvard, she’s just finished a run as Rona Lisa Peretti in the “The 25th Annual Putnam Spelling Bee.” Despite her vast experience as a performer, she continues to find new ways to push herself and explore new arenas.

“I hadn't really played a role like Rona before with as much improv [and the] type of singing was a little bit new to me, not entirely, but not like my most favorite. So it was a challenge, but I really loved the challenge. I felt like I grew so much from that part,” Beirne said.

In a way, Beirne’s character in “The 25th Annual Putnam Spelling Bee” — a nurturing and encouraging host that sees the potential in kids, even as they flounder — is a particularly apt casting that reflects Beirne in real life. One of Beirne’s favorite parts of the Disney Cruise was interacting with kids.

“I love working with children,” Beirne said. “[I am] hoping to inspire younger generations into getting into theater and storytelling. That was one of my favorite parts overall, seeing the faces of little children light up was incredible.”

Beirne has proved that you can do anything you set your mind to and that “dreams really do come true.” Hearing about everything she’s done and the way she sees the world, one cannot help but be infected by her optimism.

Bob iger: disney’s job is “not to advance any kind of agenda”.

Bob Iger

Asked whether Disney would stay out of politics, CEO Bob Iger said that the company is not out to “advance any kind of agenda,” but rather is focused on entertainment.

Related Stories

Disney declares victory in proxy fight as nelson peltz fails to win board seat, disney stock analyst boosts price target by $15 ahead of crucial shareholder meeting.

“I’ve always believed that we have a responsibility to do good in the world. But we know our job is not to advance any kind of agenda. So as long as I’m in the job, I’m going to continue to be guided by a sense of decency and respect. And we will always trust our instincts,” he continued.

The comments come after proposals from different shareholders asking Disney to alternatively stay out of progressive politics, with particular critique levied at Iger, and to be more progressive with the political candidates and causes it gives money to. Both proposals failed after votes by shareholders.

The company has been party to a series of high-profile political fights in Florida, after Disney, then led by Bob Chapek, began speaking out against the state’s “Don’t Say Gay” law, which prohibits schools from teaching gender and sexuality through the third grade. Disney alleges that Gov. Ron DeSantis retaliated against them by hand-picking the board to oversee the company’s special district. The company filed suit against the state and pulled plans to build a major office complex in Orlando. The two sides recently reached a settlement in the matter.

Activist investor Nelson Peltz, whose bid for two seats on the Disney board failed Wednesday, had also accused the company of pursuing a “woke” film strategy by debuting the Black Panther franchise, with a largely Black cast, and with the premiere of The Marvels , which featured all-female superheros.

Iger’s comments at the shareholder meeting reiterate the CEO’s remarks at a Nov. 29 Dealbook summit where he noted, “Creators lost sight of what their No. 1 objective needed to be … We have to entertain first. It’s not about messages.”
