Heart is a successful rock band from Seattle, Washington based around sister duo Ann Wilson (lead singer) and Nancy Wilson (guitarist) who are now based in Vancouver, Canada.

The formation of Heart can be traced to two couples, Ann Wilson & Mike Fisher and Nancy Wilson & Roger Fisher. The group played numerous shows around their new home in Vancouver, and they recorded a demo tape with the assistance of producer Mike Flicker and session-guitarist and keyboard player, Howard Leese. Flicker went on to produce the band's first five albums due to their successful working relationship. Their debut album broke the top ten on the US billboard charts aided by two hit singles 'Magic Man' and 'Crazy On You', an impressive feat for a new artist.

Due to a bitter magazine article claiming the sisters were romantically involved, the band cut its ties with record label Mushroom Records and signed with a competitor, Portrait Records. In 1977 both labels released material by the band whilst trying to prevent the other from any future releases. Eventually a Seattle court forced Mushroom to recall the album so Heart could remix and rework tracks before officially releasing it again, featuring hit single 'Heartless' which went on to be certified platinum. The band enjoyed continuous success with it's following releases. 'Dog & Butterfly' became a double platinum selling record and Babe Le Strange became their third top ten chart hit. They supported the latter with a 77 city tour to expand their growing fan base even further.

The next two releases were not produced by Mike Flicker and struggled commercially without the hit singles of the previous, however in 1985 the band reclaimed their status with a self titled release which debuted at #1 in the US, sold five million copies and featured four top ten hits including the chart topping 'These Dreams'. The next album featured their most recognisable worldwide hit, 'Alone' which achieved number one in both the US and Canada in 1987. Their chart success simmered after this. The albums still performed well in the States and 'Brigade' became their highest placing in the UK charts, yet in 1995 the group went on hiatus with Ann wanting to concentrate on her family.

In 2002, Ann and Nancy returned to the road with a brand-new Heart lineup that included Scott Olson, Ben Smith, Alice in Chains bassist Mike Inez, and keyboardist Tom Kellock whilst still releasing original material. Heart is considered one of the most consistently successful American bands achieving top 10 billboard albums in the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, and 2010s and in 2013 they were rewarded with an induction into the Rock & Roll Hame of Fame.

Live reviews

It is a true inspiration to see Heart live. Founders of the band, Ann Wilson and Nancy Wilson, play with so much passion it is nearly impossible not to get swept off your feet when seeing them perform. To see them blend all the diverse genres of music they play live is an immense pleasure to witness.

Heart has great musical chemistry whenever they perform live, which is probably highly influenced by the two main songwriters being sisters. The two sisters, Ann and Nancy, are looked at as musical legends within their genre for being some of the first female performers to front a hard rock band. They are rock and roll pioneers that helped pave the path for many that have come after them. Both Nancy and Ann have impeccable voices, and they often alternate between singing songs in the set. Nancy often has a softer, more pristine voice, while Ann has the more intense, stronger voice, which is able to pull off the more hard rock songs like “Crazy on You”. Both the sisters play guitar on songs, but Nancy usually is more likely to be seen on the guitar while Ann is more likely to be seen singing her heart out on the microphone.

The rest of the band plays integral roles in the performance as well contributing to the strong rhythmic foundation of the performance and playing some important leads on the guitar and other instruments. Ann is also known to add a more orchestrated sound to the performance with her ability to play the flute on such songs as “Walkin’ Good”. It is not unexpected that a band that has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and a band that has sold over 35 million records would put on such an amazing show. They have even impressed the likes of Led Zeppelin when they performed a cover of the song, “Stairway to Heaven”. Heart is so interesting to see live because of their wide diversity of musical sounds. One moment they could be inspiring their audience to rock out to a more heavy oriented song like, “Barracuda”, and the next moment they could soothe the audience with one of their folk ballads.

Some Bands are just infallible. HEART is one of those Bands. Even when they are obviously either having a "off night" (all Bands deal with) or suffering from a Bad mix which, I think was the case at the Xfinity Center last night. Or both? I've seen Bands deal with this in numerous ways usually to the detriment of the sound guy and the inevitable effect on the performance on the whole.

Not so with HEART and not just the Wilson Sisters but, the whole Band. They fought their way thru the mess and as always gave everything they had for the audience. Never once making a comment or hostile "signals" to the side of stage. Though at one point there was a mass "pick throwing" in that direction but accompanied with smiles so... Professionals through out.

To no surprise Ann Wilson is still the epicenter on any stage on any given night with a voice that is still thunderous and commanding and it is all her with no enhancements what so ever.

They left the stage at the appointed time of 10:30 but it was done rather abruptly.

As per their standard they encored with two Zeppelin Songs and honestly I think HEART might due Zeppelin better than Zeppelin now?!

American/Canadian hard rock outfit Heart have an inter-band history with a romantic twist as the two sisters Ann and Nancy Wilson were originally coupled to two of the musicians, brothers Mike and Roger Fisher. Years later, it is only the sisters who remain in the touring lineup yet they are now joined by long term musical collaborators who know the entire discography well.

There is a great mixture this evening of the original and recently revived hard rock/alt-folk sounds along with the classic balladic stylings of 'These Dreams'. The largest singalong comes for the iconic, timeless and ever powerful 'Alone' and although the thousand strong crowd bellow out the choruses, the vocal prowess of the sisters trumps them every time. They remind the audience of the fantastic music found on their early albums such as 'Magic Man' and 'Barracuda' which have both aged brilliantly. It is worth noting that as Heart approach their thousandth live show, they still obtain a huge amount of passion and determination for the live show and their loyal audiences.

The ladies looked amazing especially Ann wow she dropped weight and had a complete makeover I felt like I was back in 1975 now for the BAD 1) the noise for the show was low there was a lot of old people there but to have a rock show and turn the volume down was unacceptable I went to disturbed the next night at the same venue and then for the songs I love the most the 80's heart songs they played 3 of them these dreams, alone, and what about love they replaced the electric guitar with a acoustic guitar twice and a eucalele once u know that small guitar with double the strings ? But barracuda and magic man were full electric so that was cool but overall I think the show was geared more toward the geriatric crowd even Joan Jett's set was mainly very mainstream songs both songs from light of day ,cherry bomb (made famous by that movie the runaways) and the usual hits overall a 6 out of 10 for me not a bad show but definitely not in my high tier of shows and I've been to hundreds over the years

The concert was great, a little hot n muggy but well worth it. We had lawn seats n it was just so packed out if we had brought lawn chairs we wouldn't have been able to sit in them not enough room, of course we did get there late cause of the traffic going into the race track. Kinda ridiculous actually. Riverbend really needs to fix the problem, traffic from Coney island and the race track ended up walking a mile from the parking problem, 3 very popular events at the same time is just CRAZY.... over all the waiting to get parked it was a great concert.

Thoroughly enjoyable gig, if a tad on the short side. Playing a main set of only 50 minutes is not really acceptable, plus covering 3 Led Zepp tracks as an encore seemed a somewhat self-indulgent homage to their idols. That said, it was great to witness the Wilson sisters in person, Anne's singing and Nancy's guitar work (and vice versa) both top drawer. Highlights - Anne's stripped down version of Alone, and, as always, Crazy On You.

In summary, a great gig but 20 mins more show time and more Heart songs please ladies.

What can I say but OH MY GOD! Heart were absolutely amazing! Anne and Nancy's voices are every bit as powerful, alluring, and enchanting as ever. The band was super. Joan Jett and Cheap Trick were both pretty dang good. Waiting out the downpour made it all even more worth it. I only wish we could've seen more of them, but the rain forced it to go short. The set list was just spectacular. I hope they play RR again!

I've been seeing heart since I was 14 yrs old I think they are amazing. I learned to sing the songs just like Ann Wilson. She has such a powerful voice. I learned a lot about Ann from Ann's life through her songs. Nancy is a great guitar player and has a great voice as well. I met them at a book signing in huntington yrs ago. I see them everytime they come to NY. I'm one of there biggest fans.

Heart are brilliant. Anne and Nancy can still sing and play like they are still in the 80's. Top notch performance and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra gave songs an amazing lift. Only downside was the very short set. 60 minutes then went off. 15 minutes of encores so 80 minutes tops. So not VFM.

Heart was great! Ann & Nancy still have it going on. Only problem was the venue. I wish they would have stuck to singing their hits and left off what they wanted to sing. Maybe some of their old songs were just out of their vocal range today...dunno. Otherwise, I recommend seeing them!

So, Is It a Tour? Heart Books More Concerts, First Shows Since 2019

heart tour 2022

Sisters Ann Wilson and Nancy Wilson, in an undated photo, via Heart’s Facebook page

They’re not calling it a reunion—and haven’t announced a tour, yet—but sisters Ann Wilson and Nancy Wilson have revealed many more Heart concerts. What makes them of particular interest is that unlike the previous three, which all took place in December 2023, the latest shows are for Spring and Summer 2024. On Jan. 18, it was announced that they’ll be performing during the first weekend of Jazz Fest in late April. They’ll also be playing the Tons of Rock festival in Oslo, Norway, in late June as well as several dates on the Def Leppard – Journey Summer Stadium Tour in the U.S. It had been a month since the trio of December shows—all on the U.S. west coast—were announced. On Oct. 24, the sisters first made the surprise announcement of their return with a Dec. 31 show to be held in Seattle, Wash. That celebration, from “Seattle’s own,” will ring in the New Year with special guest Jason Bonham’s Led Zeppelin’s Evening. Tickets for the U.S. shows are on sale here .

The sisters shared the stage on Oct. 10 when Nancy Wilson was a surprise guest at Ann Wilson’s concert for a brief Heart reunion in Santa Rosa, Calif. As the stunned audience applauded, Nancy strode across the stage and planted a kiss on her sister’s cheeck, as the crowd roared its approval. The pair performed Heart ‘s classic rock favorite, “Barracuda.” That was the first time that the sisters had performed together on stage since 2019. In an extensive 2021 interview with Best Classic Bands, Nancy Wilson said, “Live Nation has put a big offer on the table for Heart for 2022. That will be a really fun thing to look forward to! Ann and I are both up for it.”

Regrettably, things changed, and it never took place as the sisters again toured separately in 2022.

Watch them perform “Barracuda” on October 10, 2023

In 2016, the sisters had a falling out over a family dispute. Before Nancy and Ann reunited as Heart for their big “Love Alive” tour in 2019, they performed together in New York City for a benefit concert.

“We’re sisters, first and foremost,” Nancy Wilson said in our interview, “and that’s the most important story to tell about Heart. It’s not really a business between me and Ann. It shouldn’t really be a business. That [doesn’t] help the sisterhood. That’s where the blood is thicker than water. That’s the biggest joy to celebrate.” She turns 70 on March 16, 2024. Older sister Ann turned 73 on June 19.

Watch: HEART Plays First Concert In More Than Four Years

HEART played its first concert in more than four years Wednesday night (December 27) at Yaamava' Resort & Casino in Highland, California.

According to Setlist.fm , HEART kicked off its 14-song set with the title track of the band's 1980 album "Bébé Le Strange" and finished the show with a cover of LED ZEPPELIN 's "Stairway To Heaven" .

The setlist was as follows:

01. Bébé Le Strange 02. Never 03. Magic Man 04. Love Alive 05. Little Queen 06. Straight On 07. Let's Dance 08. These Dreams 09. Alone 10. What About Love 11. Mistral Wind 12. Crazy On You 13. Barracuda 14. Stairway To Heaven (LED ZEPPELIN cover)

Prior to the Highland show, HEART 's last concert took place in October 2019 in St. Paul, Minnesota.

HEART has two more shows scheduled for this week —December 28 in Palm Desert, California; and December 31 in Seattle, Washington.

In a recent interview with the 96.1 KLPX radio station, HEART 's Ann Wilson , who has been working on solo projects, and in September of this year released the album "Another Door" , billed as ANN WILSON & TRIPSITTER , stated about HEART 's reunion concerts: "We're gonna see how it works with the HEART thing, whether it feels like a level up. If it does feel like a level up, then we'll keep doing it. But that's what it has to be. It can't just slide down into jukebox time… It's gotta be real. No going through the motions. No phoning it in. No just getting on some kind of circuit just to take people's money and play the old songs again and again and again. No, we're gonna make it cool, really make it cool."

Ann 's sister, HEART guitarist Nancy Wilson made a surprise appearance during Ann 's concert on October 10 in Santa Rosa, California.

Nancy joined her sister and TRIPSITTER on stage at the Luther Burbank Center For The Arts in Nancy 's hometown to perform the HEART classic "Barracuda" .

This past June, Nancy revealed in an interview with Joe Rock of Long Island, New York's rock station 102.3 WBAB that she was working on fresh music with Ann . The 69-year-old musician, who has spent some of the recent months on tour with her new band NANCY WILSON'S HEART , broke the news of her latest collaboration with Ann while discussing some of her current recording projects, including "Tomboy" , which involves covering songs written by her male friends.

"I think right now I've been working on 'Tomboy' the most because I love the title, for one thing; it's almost like 'boy genius' or something," she explained. "But I've got a bunch of new ideas for songs. But I've also been writing new music with Ann too. So it's a real creative time. I think being on the tour right now, when I get home, I'm gonna really dig into the other projects, including finishing some new material with Ann . So it's really a good time to be creative. And I've got a new studio in my house, and so I can't wait to sort of run tape on stuff."

Asked if there is anything that she feels is really exciting because she feels it's something that's so different from what she's done before, Nancy said: "Yeah. Some of the stuff I've been working on with Ann is like that. I've also worked a bit with Sue Ennis , who used to work a lot with me and Ann for HEART music. And so I have some lyrics mainly that I worked on with Sue and took to Ann . And there's a couple of things that I'm really excited about. Very cool. Like stuff that you wouldn't have heard us do in the '80s. [It's] closer to what you would have heard us originally do in the '70s, late '70s. So it's really fun. It's just exciting and inspiring."

Nancy went on to say that she is really pleased to be collaborating on new material with her sister. "It's been a really nice kind of rediscovery of our relationship, working on music together again," she said. "So, yeah, I'm really happy about that."

In July 2022, Ann told Grammy.com that she and her sister had plans for the band to celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2023. "Yes, we do," she said. "I'm not at liberty to say exactly what they are yet because it's such early days, but sure. It will be next year. And we're doing a thing. Definitely. We're still formulating it now."

Ann 's comments came three months after she denied rumors of a rift with Nancy . In an interview in the 300th issue of Classic Rock , Ann said that she was "not" feuding with her younger sister. "It's a myth," she insisted. " Nancy and I are okay with each other. We just have different ideas for what HEART should be, and we haven’t figured out a compromise yet.

"Fifty years on, I still want it to break barriers and rules, and she's more satisfied to ride the L.A. imaging thing and just do legacy stuff," Ann explained. "So that's a real split between us. Things like this will happen, though, but then they'll get better, and we'll love each other more."

Relations between the two sisters were considered to be at an all-time low after a much-publicized incident when Ann 's husband was arrested during a HEART tour in 2016. But in an interview with Rock Candy magazine to coincide with the release of her new solo album, "Fierce Bliss" , Ann said: "Things happen in families. And that was a really good example of something that happened within a family, and we worked it out. But the part that made it hard was that it happened in the public eye. If it had happened privately, we'd have got the family in a room and sat down and worked it out between us. Instead, the police were called, and this myth was born that Nancy and I were feuding, and we were at each other's throats all the time. And it's really not like that at all."

A proposed HEART tour fell through last year after the two sisters failed to agree on which backing band to use. Ann wanted her guys, Nancy didn't. But Ann later said that another HEART album, which would be the band's first since 2016's "Beautiful Broken" , was a definite possibility, especially considering the fact that 2023 marks HEART 's 50th anniversary.

"It depends on the songs," she said in her Rock Candy interview. "The songs lead everything. And I'm writing songs again now. I don't know if they'll be for my solo thing or for HEART . But yes, I would like to make another HEART album."

Ann previously said that HEART would celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2023 "because next year's the 50-year [anniversary] of when we actually got together and got going," she told Liz Barnes of Planet Rock 's "My Planet Rocks" . " Nancy didn't join until '75, but the band got going in '73. So, yeah, we have a bunch of stuff planned for next year. So I can definitely see HEART doing something."

In February 2022, Nancy spoke to Joe Rock about why HEART had been inactive for most of the previous three years.

" HEART had a big offer on the table [in 2021] for a bigger tour, but Ann wasn't interested in going out with my lineup of guys that we were out with before," she said. "She has a new lineup of guys that she wanted me to join up with. And I sort of [thought] I don't really know them and don't have loyalty yet for anybody like that."

HEART toured North America in the summer of 2019 after the aforementioned nasty split that kept the Wilson sisters estranged for three years.

Ann and Nancy had a falling out during HEART 's 2016 tour, when Ann 's husband Dean Welter was arrested for assaulting Nancy 's then-16-year-old twin sons in a backstage altercation at a gig near their hometown of Seattle. He pleaded guilty to two lesser assault charges to avoid jail time.

After completing HEART 's 2016 tour, Nancy formed a new band called ROADCASE ROYALE and released an album, "First Things First" . ROADCASE ROYALE featured three members of HEART along with Liv Warfield from Prince 's NEW POWER GENERATION band and her guitarist Ryan Wilson .

In Nancy 's new band NANCY WILSON'S HEART , she is joined in the group by her longtime collaborators, guitarist Ryan Waters , drummer Ben Smith , bassist Andy Stoller and keyboardist Dan Walker , along with powerhouse singer Kimberly Nichole .

Ann Wilson Says Heart Will 'Definitely' Return For Anniversary Tour In 2023

By Andrew Magnotta @AndrewMagnotta

July 20, 2022

heart tour 2022

Heart 's Ann Wilson has confirmed that she and her sister Nancy plan to reunite in 2023 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of their band.

Ann was asked about the upcoming milestone in a recent interview with Grammy.com .

"Yes, we do," she replied, of Heart's plans. "I'm not at liberty to say exactly what they are yet because it's such early days, but sure. It will be next year. And we're doing a thing. Definitely. We're still formulating it now."

Ann has been on tour this year with her solo band, supporting her latest album, Fierce Bliss , while Nancy been performing Heart material with her own band.

While the sisters weren't able to come to terms on a Heart tour this year, both have expressed optimism that they would be able to iron out something for next year.

"Nancy and I are OK with each other," Ann told Classic Rock magazine this spring . "We just have different ideas for what Heart should be, and we haven't figured out a compromise yet."

Nancy explained back in February that she and her sister couldn't agree on what line up to take with them on the next Heart tour. She said the band had a tour offer, but had to turn it down because Ann wanted to reshuffle the lineup. Their compromise for 2022, was to do what each of them wanted and come out with a plan for next year.

The Head and the Heart Announce Tour with Dawes, Shakey Graves, Jade Bird

The "Every Shade of Blue Tour" is named for their upcoming new single of the same name

The Head and the Heart Announce Tour with Dawes, Shakey Graves, Jade Bird

The Head and the Heart have mapped out an extensive run of 2022 North American tour dates featuring a trio of folk-favorite special guests: Shakey Graves , Dawes , and Jade Bird .

Dubbed the “Every Shade of Blue Tour,” the trek is named after THATH’s upcoming single, due for release this Friday, January 21st. Stretching from spring through early fall, the itinerary is split into three legs, each featuring a different act in support on select dates.

The May 20th through June 10th leg (Pittsburgh, Cleveland, New York, Boston, Milwaukee) will see The Head and the Heart accompanied by Jade Bird. Dawes will then join them on the road from August 2nd through the 22nd, with stops in Austin, Oklahoma City, Boise, Missoula, Seattle, and Los Angeles. Finally, the September 14th through October 15th stretch will find THATH playing with Shakey Graves in cities including Denver, Columbus, Toronto, Indianapolis, Chicago, St. Louis, and Nashville.

“It’s wild to think that by the time we get back on the road this year, it will have been over two and a half years since we last toured,” the band said in a press statement. “We’re so excited to bring new songs to life on stage every night, traveling alongside artists who inspire us. We can’t wait to get out there, doing what we do with an even greater sense of gratitude.”

Tickets will be available via Ticketmaster beginning January 21st at 10:00 a.m. local time; exceptions are for the Vienna, Virginia show (on sale February 19th) and the Salt Lake City show (TBA). Find the complete tour schedule below.
