BE AWARE!!!!!!! These guys publish prices that are not real to get you to engage with them , then they claim that the deal is no longer available . I actually called them and got someone on the phone who was of low intelligence but he did confirm the price as I pushed the purchase button to confrim and I got a notice to say that the purchase went through , But wait a call within 30 mins told me it was no longer available and I was offered a new price that was $300 more than the airline was selling the same flights for . Scammers

No confirmation of ticket purchase. They have all my information but don’t answer the phone or return calls. Live chat not particularly helpful. He can’t find the reservation.

FRAUD FRAUD

This is a fraud, as simple as that. I had to oppose my credit card in order to avoid being charged for a non existing flying ticket. Their online client service is ridiculous and extremely agressive. They have for sure fake people writing fake comments. Avoid at all costs.

Run while you ahead

There service is horrible. Wouldn't recommend them to anyone. My tickets wasn't that much cheaper than any other company. Then to turn around and have to pay $90 a pc for my luggage is crazy. Nobody speaks good English and can't spell. I got a email it said sprint when the airlines name is spirit. How are you a professional company and can't even spell the name of the airlines. Total rip off. I REPEAT DO NOT USE THEM HORRIBLE SERVICE

THEY CHANGED SITE LAYOUT AND GRAPHICS BUT NEVER TRUST A GREAT WARNING "DON'T TRY TO BOOK ANYTHING ON THIS SITE".Everything is very suspicious! And if you see where they have affiliated agency, like in Rome, you will soon understand .My experience regarding this agency is easy to explain. Suspiciously,after entering the flight details, i was asked for credit card number. After entering those numbers , FOR THE FIRST TIME AND ONLY ONCE with a debit card with 1 euro of credit, and email, I exit the site. After some minutes I received an email written in spanish....from India....., coming from a company supposed to be in Usa....With an office in Rome like a garage!....But the best has to come. 3 days back I was warned by a security debit card message, someone tried to operate with my debit card .The only one I gave my debit card number was on this site.SO BEWARE !!!!!

This is a SCAM SITE!

This is a SCAM SITE!! I booked a flight to Miami for $259 CAD per person for 5 members of my family on Mar 25. I received a confirmation email. Then I received a call the next day saying the flight was not available. They tried to change my destination and make me pay $400 more, meaning a $2,200 CAD price increase overall including tx. They told me it was a “promotional price and was no longer available”. So, we decided to refuse their offer and had to cancel our Easter holidays in Florida. Fortunately, they did not charge my credit card at least.. yet. But I look at it regurlarly just to make sure as it happened to other customers apparently. So in summmary, they asked me to pay $2,200 more to get my flight that THEY ADVERTISED on jetcost.ca!! No way. An ABSOLUTE SCAM!! On top of this they were still showing a price of $317 this morning while they told me over the phone yesterday the best price they could get was $684. So they are still confusing and misguiding people on their web site volontarily. This is wrong doing. This is not TravelMakers afterall they should rename themselves TroubleMakers. No need for this in our lives.

They are scammers

They are scammers. (Pablo )Gave me one price for a ticket from Halifax to Delhi. I received an email confirming the itinerary and price at 1950. I agreed and confirmed to issue the ticket. I then received a message and call from another agent (Gary) who insisted that I purchase the ticket from him at a price 2,000. Reluctantly i said ok, Then they (gary) changed the price to 2184. I could not believe it. By this time i just wanted to get it done. after his assurance that i will only pay through credit card and through a secured site, i said ok. they (Gary) changed the price to 2584. by this point i realize that they are scammers, lure you with a lower price and keep raising the price. at that point, i refused to pick up their calls. They kept on giving me calls (5 calls). Over the email.I asked twice why the ticket booked for me at 1950 was not getting issued, and got no response. Pablo indicated that he can not go against his colleague, who sure sounded like an aggressive salesman over the phone, and as per Pablo, asked him not to issue me the ticket. this seems like their modus operendi. Be very very careful. Please also note that tarvelmakers and theflightmakers.us and thetravelmakers.com are same company (PCM Travels), using two different websites.

AVOID THESE PEOPLE - THEY ARE EVIL SCAMMERS!! (faremakers, travelmakers.us and PCM Travels)

First, I had purchased tickets for a trip to Mexico City directly through the Volaris website. When I was trying to check us in for our flight last week, their website wouldn't let me check in and wasn't giving me an error message. I googled "Volaris Customer Service phone number, and then called it. The lady (Veronica) who answered pretended like she couldn't hear me, and said she'd call me back, which she did but from a different phone number. I honestly thought I was just talking with a real Volaris customer service rep, and I told her how I was unable to check in for my flight, and gave her my trip confirmation number. She said she checked it and then said that our flights were canceled. In a panic, I asked for her help, and she said she could try and rebook us. After some time, she said she was able to book the same seats and flights for me, and I just needed to pay for them again. And, so I did, thinking she was truly helping me, and not yet realizing she was completely scamming me and ripping me off. It was after she sent me a "confirmation email," which was basically just a screen shot of my original itinerary, with the same confirmation number, same everything. SHAME ON HER!!! I can't believe she blatantly lied about my flight being canceled. (I was able to verify the next day when we got to the airport that our tickets were NEVER canceled, and we boarded our flights for our trip. The Volaris lady at the airport just told me they had been having a technical issue with their website.) These people (travelmakers.us; also known as faremasters and PCM Travels) are pure evil, preying on people when they are already emotional and frustrated. Afterward, I found a lot of other reviews saying that somehow these horrible people are able to intercept calls to legit airlines, justifying their evil ways by saying "well, we sell tickets for these airlines; therefore we are kind of like customer service for all the different airlines." But, no matter how they try to justify it, lying to a customer and telling them their flights were canceled, and then getting them to make another payment in order to "repurchase" their initial tickets - well, it's just plain FRAUD. DO NOT TRUST THESE PEOPLE. I have reached out to my credit card company, and will be reaching out to our attorney general, as well as the Better Business Bureau, and other sites that review horrible companies like this. How would these people like it if it was their family members being ripped off like that? Or, are they truly souless, evil individuals? I just can't believe these people exist and are allowed to do business and continue scamming innocent people. Shame on them!!

Mission Moscow : A Conversation with Evgeny Kozlov

Mr. Evgeny Kozlov, Deputy Head Mayor of Moscow Government and Chairman of the Moscow City Tourism Committee, who has come to the city to attain BLTM, the annual prestigious travel event at the Leela Ambience Convention Centre, Delhi spoke with TW Editor Anirban Dasgupta on his vision and goal with the all-new tourism initiatives in Moscow.  

The bond between India and Russia has a long history of culture, literature, love, and of course politics. But recently, there has also been a lot of talk about Gastronomical tourism. Any personal experience with this?

My personal take on the bond between India and Russia stems from my recent experience of trying authentic Indian cuisine in Moscow. I thoroughly enjoyed the spicy flavours of the Curry dish I tried and it left a lasting impression on me. This made me appreciate the cultural exchange between our two countries even more. I believe that Moscow, being a culinary hub, is a great place for people from all over the world, including Indian visitors, to immerse themselves in our rich history and culture. It’s a unique experience that brings people together and showcases the diversity of the gastronomic universe. Moscow has a thriving food scene with various international cuisines to explore, from Chinese to South African and Latin American. This culinary diversity reflects the open-mindedness and curiosity of the Russian people when it comes to trying new types of food. Moscow truly has something for everyone, and I encourage Indian tourists to come and indulge in this gastronomic journey.

  How optimistic are the post-pandemic recovery figures?

After the Covid-19 pandemic, we have witnessed a remarkable recovery in tourism in Moscow. In fact, we have been able to restore 90% of the pre-pandemic tourist flow. In the first half of 2023, almost a million foreign tourists visited Moscow, with over 600,000 of them arriving during the summer season. Among the non-CIS countries, China has led the way in terms of tourist traffic, followed by Iran, the United Arab Emirates, Turkey, and India. Prior to the pandemic, India’s tourist flow was steadily growing at a rate of 12-15% annually. Although we faced challenges during the pandemic, we have now put in place all the necessary conditions for a successful recovery. Moscow is known for hosting numerous international exhibitions, forums, congresses, and conferences, attracting approximately 3.6 million business visitors in the past year alone. Among these visitors, India ranks third in terms of foreign business tourists in Moscow. To further promote tourism, we have initiated the MICE Ambassadors training program in India, which aims to assist Indian businesses in exploring opportunities and selecting relevant events in Moscow.

  Can you please share your vision for future tourism development in Moscow?

Thank you for asking this question. I have a multi-faceted vision for the future tourism development in Moscow.

Firstly, I believe that tourism should provide a personal and authentic experience for each individual. Therefore, customization of experiences is crucial. For business tourists, we aim to offer special infrastructure facilities that cater to their specific needs and requirements. We are closely collaborating with infrastructure providers to ensure seamless experiences for those visiting Moscow for business purposes. On the other hand, when it comes to leisure or family tourists, we recognize the importance of providing a support system and guidelines for those traveling with their families, especially children. We are working with museums, theatres, and restaurants to customize their services and products to cater to tourists of all ages, including children. Furthermore, I envision rearranging tourism in Moscow to encourage visitors to delve into the history and heritage of our country. A significant part of my tourism goal is to motivate and inspire the youth and younger generations to travel to Russia. This involves providing affordable pricing for accommodations, entertainment, museums, and other attractions.

We are already constructing tailor-made infrastructure that specifically targets the young generation in Russia, and by next year, we plan to extend and promote these offerings to international young visitors as well. By rebranding the image of Moscow as a destination for longer stays, relaxation, and enjoying various facilities, we aim to change the perception that it is merely a transit or stop-over city. Lastly, the beautiful weather in Moscow during the summer months provides an opportunity to create delightful memories for tourists. I want every visitor to experience the sunshine, green landscapes, parks, cafes, restaurants, swimming pools, and sports facilities that Moscow has to offer during this time.

In summary, my vision for the future of tourism in Moscow revolves around creating customized travel experiences for every type of traveller.

How do you prioritize sustainability and responsible tourism practices in the development of business tourism?

How easy or difficult is it to get a Visa for an Indian Tourist at present?

Acquiring a Visa for Indian tourists has become easier with the introduction of the e-visa system. Since its launch in August 2023, more than 30,000 tourists have already utilized this system. The e-visa offers several advantages over traditional visas, such as avoiding the need to visit consulates or embassies. The application process only requires a digital photograph and a scan of the passport data page. The e-visa has a validity period of 60 days from the date of issuance, with a maximum stay of 16 days in Russia. This convenient and streamlined process is available to citizens of 55 countries, including India. Indian tourists are currently ranked third in terms of business travellers from outside the CIS countries visiting Moscow.

The Met Office says heavy downpours will hit parts of the UK between now and 1pm today.

The alert, covering the east coast of Northern Ireland , has been in place since 6pm yesterday.

Forecasters say: “Persistent rain will bring some impact to travel and infrastructure.”

It means communities may be cut off by flooded roads which could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures.

Meanwhile, power cuts are on the cards and homes and businesses could be flooded.

It comes as the Easter Bank Holiday weekend is set to be a washout.

A spokesperson for the Met Office said it will be " unsettled across the majority of the UK " for the rest of the week.

Rain, with hill snow, will move north across Scotland and Northern Ireland, with brighter spells and showers following. Meanwhile, a band of showery rain will move east across England and Wales. Sunshine ahead, and heavy showers following. Generally rather windy.

The weather service said: "Through the bank holiday weekend and into the following week, unsettled or changeable weather remains the most likely outcome.

"All areas are likely to see further rain or showers at times, with some drier spells in between, but wet weather will tend to favour the southwest while northern parts remain a bit drier on average."

When you need to renew a passport to travel to Europe

Since Brexit , passport rules for UK visitors to the European Union (EU) have tightened up.

But many people may not be aware of the finer print, and some families are finding themselves thousands of pounds out of pocket when they have been banned from boarding flights due to the rule changes.

So what exactly are the rules for British travellers to the EU, and how can you avoid a passport disaster if you're jetting off for the Easter holidays?

How have the rules changed?

When the UK was a member of the EU, British passports remained valid up to and including their expiry date for travel to other EU countries.

But post-Brexit, British passport holders wishing to travel to EU countries in the Schengen Area are treated as non-EU nationals. This includes popular tourism destinations such as Portugal and Greece.

As such, they must meet two key requirements, as outlined on the EU's Your Europe website . If you are a non-EU national wishing to visit or travel within the EU, you will need a passport:

which is valid for at least three months after the date you intend to leave the EU country you are visiting;

which was issued within the previous 10 years.

This means you should really be looking at the date of issue when checking if you need to renew, as well as the expiry date.

It may appear that your passport is within date, but if it hasn't been issued in the past 10 years you could be stopped from boarding your plane or ferry.

According to the government's website, for some Schengen countries, once the three-months-remaining rule is taken into account, a passport needs to have been issued no more than nine years and nine months ago.

What is the Schengen Area?

The border-free Schengen Area is made up of 27 countries and guarantees free movement to more than 400 million EU citizens, along with non-EU nationals living in the EU or visiting the EU as tourists.

It is comprised of most EU countries, except for Croatia, Cyprus, and Ireland. Bulgaria and Romania will be part of the Schengen Area as of March 31 2024. The non-EU countries Iceland, Norway, Switzerland and Liechtenstein are also part of the area.

Aren't all passports only valid for 10 years?

Until September 2018, the UK had a policy that meant you could claim credit on 'unspent' time when renewing your passport, so you could be issued with a passport that was valid for up to 10 years and nine months.

People who took advantage of this policy could now find themselves caught out.

Do the rules affect children's passports?

Passports for under-16s are usually valid for five years, so there should be no chance of breaching the 10-year rule.

But be careful of the three-months-remaining rule, which states your passport must be valid for at least three months after the date you plan to leave the country. Children's passports are more likely to get caught out by this rule as their passports don't last as long.

Am I covered if I get caught out?

Unfortunately, if you don't make sure your passport will be accepted before you travel, you are unlikely to get back any money you lose.

Rory Boland, Editor of Which? Travel, told ITV News: “There has been confusion over guidance for travel to the EU. Passports must be issued within 10 years of entry into your destination country and remain in date for at least three months after the day you plan to return to the UK.

“It is essential to ensure your passport is valid when you are due to travel and return home. Otherwise you risk losing the money for your flight or holiday as your provider will not refund you, and insurance will not cover you for the error.”

Do the rules apply anywhere else in the world?

These rules are specific to Schengen Area countries. If you are travelling to the rest of the world you should check the individual rules for entering those countries on the government website .

When should I renew my passport?

To be on the safe side, it's best to apply to renew your passport before it is nine years and nine months old.

You should allow up to 10 weeks to receive your passport, so you should apply for it at least 10 weeks before you're due to travel. The Passport Office say people usually get their passports within three weeks.

You can apply online (£82.50) or by post with a paper form (£93). Passport costs are set to increase by more than 7% in April, the Home Office announced this month.

If you need a passport urgently, you can pay more for the fast track service . The one-week service costs £155 for an adult passport and £126 for a child passport, while the one-day premium service costs £193.50, or £204.50 for a 54-page frequent traveller passport.

F.B.I. Tells Passengers on Alaska Flight They May Have Been Crime Victims

Letters sent by the bureau’s Seattle office are a sign that the Justice Department’s investigation into Boeing, the maker of the plane whose fuselage panel blew off, is ramping up.

Passengers aboard an Alaska Airlines plane that made an emergency landing after a fuselage panel blew off this year have started to receive letters from the F.B.I. identifying them as possible victims of a crime.

The letters are a sign that a criminal investigation the Justice Department has opened into Boeing , the manufacturer of the 737 Max 9 jet, is ramping up.

“As a victim specialist with the Seattle division, I’m contacting you because we have identified you as a possible victim of a crime,” reads the letter from the F.B.I.’s Seattle office, a copy of which was obtained by The New York Times. The letter says the incident is under criminal F.B.I. investigation but adds that such inquiries can be lengthy and that “for several reasons, we cannot tell you about its progress at this time.”

The panel on the flight, which was carrying 171 passengers and six crew members, blew off at an altitude of 16,000 feet , shortly after the plane left the Portland, Ore., airport in early January. The National Transportation Safety Board said in a preliminary report that the panel, known as a door plug and used to fill space that would have been occupied by an emergency exit door if the plane had included more seats, was missing four bolts meant to secure it in place.

Steve Bernd, a spokesman for the F.B.I.’s Seattle office, declined to comment on the criminal investigation. Boeing also declined to comment. The company has previously said it is cooperating with the inquiry.

Mark Lindquist, a lawyer for some of the passengers, said his clients welcomed the investigation. “We want answers, accountability and safer Boeing planes,” he said. “The D.O.J. brings a large hammer to those goals.”

The Wall Street Journal reported earlier that investigators had contacted some passengers and crew members.

The investigation is among the mounting troubles for Boeing, which include a recent Federal Aviation Administration audit that found problems in its manufacturing process . The Justice Department is also reviewing a 2021 settlement of a criminal charge against the company stemming from deadly crashes involving its Max 8 planes. In that case, the department had agreed to drop the charge in exchange for payment of more than $2.5 billion by Boeing, most of it in the form of compensation to customers.

Federal investigators said they were still working to get the names of the employees who had worked on the door plug that blew out. Boeing has told members of the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee and the National Transportation Safety Board that it could not find a record with the information.

Box-office numbers prove Timothée Chalamet is the biggest movie star of his generation

• Timothée Chalamet's recent films, 'Wonka' and 'Dune: Part Two,' have both surpassed the $200 million mark at the domestic box office.

He's got the talent. He's got the fans. And now Timothée Chalamet has the box-office coin to prove he's one of the biggest draws in the movie business.

After years of building an impressive filmography through the indie film world in movies like "Call Me by Your Name," "Lady Bird," and "Little Women," and heeding the words of Leonardo DiCaprio ("No hard drugs and no superhero movies") Chalamet, 28, has recently found himself a repeat visitor to the top of the box-office charts.

He's the face of recent hit releases "Wonka" and "Dune: Part Two," which are currently in the top five of highest-grossing domestic titles in 2024 .

Both titles have also surpassed the $200 million milestone domestically, something no other titles released this year have done so far. In fact, no movie has topped $200 million at the domestic box office since "Oppenheimer" did it in early August during the Barbenheimer craze .

While having two major films released less than three months apart could make a star risk being overexposed, fans clearly haven't gotten enough of Chalamet. Sure, it helps that both his projects were based on beloved IP with built-in fanbases — "Wonka" is a fresh take on the character from Roald Dahl's "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," while "Dune: Part Two" is based on Frank Herbert's sci-fi series — but Chalamet's success can't be credited to familiar IP alone. Without his on-screen magnetism, both these films would be far less compelling — and if the box-office numbers are any indication, audiences know it, too.

Watching Chalamet now is almost the equivalent of seeing a young Tom Cruise in the 1980s in movies like "Risky Business" and "Top Gun," imagining where his talents could take him in the decades to come.

Just how rare is Chalamet's recent box-office dominance? Not counting animated releases or Marvel titles, the last actor to have two films that grossed $200 million domestically this close together was John Travolta in the late 1970s, when he starred in "Saturday Night Fever" and "Grease," which opened six months apart, according to Indiewire .

Chalamet pulled it off in half that time (though, to be fair, movie tickets cost a lot more now than they did back in the '70s).

"The question often arises as to who will be the next young movie star; someone who can combine the acting chops, inherent likability, plus the bonus of box-office bankability, and the answer is undeniable, it's Timothée Chalamet," Comscore senior media analyst Paul Dergarabedian told Business Insider, noting that Chalamet's personal worldwide box office total is over $2.5 billion to date.

"Chalamet has been making great choices over the years, methodically and carefully building a well-earned reputation as an actor who is appealing to global audiences," Dergarabedian added. "He's shown a range that has allowed him to thrive in films of any genre and with budgets big and small."

Chalamet is currently filming an upcoming biopic on Bob Dylan , which will certainly raise his profile even more as he portrays one of the greatest musicians who ever lived.

In a time when Hollywood is desperately trying to determine the next generation of bankable stars, Chalamet is looking like a sure bet.

"With decades of work ahead of him, the sky's the limit for this rising young star," Dergarabedian said.

CBP Releases February 2024 Monthly Update

WASHINGTON — U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) released operational statistics today for February 2024. CBP monthly reporting can be viewed on CBP’s Stats and Summaries webpage .

“CBP continues to work with our foreign and domestic partners to enhance enforcement efforts: aggressively targeting unscrupulous human smugglers, and swiftly applying consequences against those who cross the border illegally and have no legal basis to remain in the United States,” said Troy A. Miller, Senior Official Performing the Duties of the Commissioner. “Despite the challenges we are facing along the southwest border, as well as the positive trends of increasing levels of trade and travel, CBP continues to surge enforcement to stop dangerous drugs from entering the country; our agents and officers interdicted 294% more methamphetamine, 164% more heroin, and 140% more cocaine in February than January. It is essential that we provide our personnel with the resources they need to continue to expand this critical work.”

CBP continues to work closely with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services to quickly process individuals encountered at the border and remove those who do not establish a legal basis to remain in the United States, utilizing consequences strengthened by the Circumvention of Lawful Pathways rule. Since May 12, 2023 and through February 29, 2024, DHS has removed or returned over 593,000 individuals, the vast majority of whom crossed the southwest border, including more than 93,000 individual family members.  Total removals and returns since mid-May exceed removals and returns in every full fiscal year since 2012. The majority of all individuals encountered at the southwest border since January 2021 have been removed, returned, or expelled.

Ensuring Border Security and Managing Migration 

CBP continues to expeditiously process and remove individuals who do not have a legal basis to remain in the country. We are working together with our domestic and foreign partners to jointly disrupt migration across the region, offering lawful pathways and taking action against ruthless smugglers who continue to spread falsehoods and show disregard for the safety and well-being of vulnerable migrants. We are also working alongside U.S. government partners to target transnational criminal organizations and smugglers who take advantage of and profit from migrants and taking new measures to stop individuals from exploiting traditional travel methods for migration.

In February 2024, the U.S. Border Patrol recorded 140,644 encounters between ports of entry along the southwest border.

CBP’s total encounters along the southwest border in February 2024 were 189,922 . Total encounters include U.S. Border Patrol encounters between ports of entry, as well as individuals who presented themselves at ports of entry (including those with CBP One™ appointments, detailed further below).

CBP continually analyzes and responds to changes in migration patterns, particularly irregular migration outside of lawful pathways and border crossings. We work with our federal and international partners to combat human smuggling. The fact remains: the United States continues to enforce immigration law, and our borders are not open for those without a legal basis to enter the country. Migrants attempting to enter without authorization are subject to removal under Title 8 authorities.

The U.S. Border Patrol has undertaken significant efforts in recent years to expand capacity to aid and rescue individuals in distress. To prevent the loss of life, CBP initiated a Missing Migrant Program in 2017 that locates noncitizens reported missing, rescues individuals in distress, and reunifies decedents’ remains with their families in the border region. In February, the U.S. Border Patrol conducted 434 rescues, totaling 2,048 rescues in FY 2024 .  This was the highest monthly rescues total since October.

CBP One™ App  

The CBP One™ mobile application remains a key component of DHS’s efforts to incentivize noncitizens to use lawful, safe, humane, and orderly pathways. Generally, noncitizens who cross between the ports of entry or who present themselves at a port of entry without making a CBP One™ appointment are subject to the Circumvention of Lawful Pathways rule. This rule presumes asylum ineligibility for those who fail to use lawful processes, with certain exceptions. DHS encourages migrants to utilize such pathways, rather than having migrants take the dangerous journey to cross unlawfully between the ports of entry, which also carries consequences under Title 8.

The CBP One™ app allows noncitizens throughout central or northern Mexico who lack documents sufficient for admission to the United States to schedule an appointment and remain in place until presenting at a preferred port of entry for their appointment, reducing migrants’ need to crowd into immediate border areas. Use of the CBP One™ app to schedule appointments at ports of entry has increased CBP’s capacity to process migrants more efficiently and orderly while cutting out unscrupulous smugglers who endanger and profit from vulnerable migrants.

In February, CBP processed more than 42,100 individuals through appointments at ports of entry utilizing advanced information submitted in CBP One™. CBP One™ appointments accounted for 86% of noncitizens processed at ports of entry, demonstrating that noncitizens will follow an orderly process when one is available. Since the appointment scheduling function in CBP One™ was introduced in January 2023 through the end of February 2024, more than 501,000 individuals have successfully scheduled appointments to present at ports of entry using CBP One™ instead of risking their lives in the hands of smugglers. The top nationalities who have been processed are Haitian, Mexican, and Venezuelan.

A percentage of daily available appointments are allocated to the earliest registered CBP One™ profiles, so noncitizens who have been trying to obtain appointments for the longest time will be prioritized. CBP is continually monitoring and evaluating the application to ensure its functionality and guard against bad actors.  

CHNV Parole Processes

On January 5, 2023, DHS announced processes providing certain Cubans, Haitians, and Nicaraguans who have a supporter in the United States, undergo and clear robust security vetting, and meet other eligibility criteria, to come to the United States in a safe, orderly, and lawful way. These processes were built on the success of the process for Venezuelans; they are publicly available online, and DHS has been providing regular updates on their use to the public. This is part of the Administration’s strategy to combine expanded lawful pathways with stronger consequences to reduce irregular migration and have kept hundreds of thousands of people from migrating irregularly.

In a decision March 8, 2024, the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas dismissed a lawsuit to stop the use of processes described above for Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans, and Venezuelans. The decision allows the United States to continue granting advance travel authorization to up to 30,000 noncitizens each month to seek parole on a case-by-case basis.

Through the end of February 2024, over 386,000 Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans, and Venezuelans arrived lawfully and were granted parole under the parole processes. Specifically,  81,000 Cubans,  156,000 Haitians,  71,000 Nicaraguans, and  97,000 Venezuelans were vetted and authorized for travel; and 79,000 Cubans,  151,000 Haitians,  64,000 Nicaraguans, and  91,000 Venezuelans arrived lawfully and were granted parole.

Safeguarding Communities by Interdicting Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs

As the largest law enforcement agency in the United States, CBP is uniquely positioned to detect, identify, and seize illicit drugs before they enter our communities. CBP’s combination of interdiction and intelligence capabilities, complemented by its border search authorities, scientific services, non-intrusive inspection equipment, and canine detection teams, places it at the forefront of the U.S. government’s efforts to combat illicit fentanyl and other dangerous drugs.

CBP continues to conduct operations, including Operation Apollo, which target the smuggling of illicit fentanyl and other dangerous drugs. These operations leverage intelligence and investigative information to target drug traffickers’ supply chains and interdict items required in the production of illicit fentanyl, including precursor chemicals, pill presses and parts, movement of finished product, and illicit proceeds.

Nationwide in February, seizures of cocaine, methamphetamine, heroin, fentanyl, and marijuana (combined, by weight) increased 118% from January. This included a 294% increase in methamphetamine seizures, a 164% increase in heroin seizures, and a 140% increase in cocaine seizures.

To date in FY 2024 through February, CBP has seized 8,447 pounds of fentanyl. CBP has stopped more fentanyl in the last two years than in the previous five years combined, and we continue to optimize our intelligence and field operations to stop these deadly substances from reaching American communities.

Facilitating Lawful Trade and Travel 

  As international travel continues to increase, CBP is leveraging technology to streamline efficiency and increase security at air and land ports of entry. Travelers are encouraged to utilize CBP’s mobile apps to enhance their travel experience, including the Global Entry Mobile Application and Mobile Passport Control , as well as new Global Entry Touchless Portals at nearly all international airports across the United States, which protect passenger privacy and expedite arrival processing by eliminating paper receipts.

Travelers arriving by air into the United States increased 16% from February 2023 to February 2024, passenger vehicles processed at ports of entry increased by 5.8% , commercial truck traffic increased by 6.2% , and pedestrians arriving by land at ports of entry increased 8.8% over the same period.  

CBP works diligently with the trade community and port operators to ensure that merchandise is cleared as efficiently as possible and to strengthen international supply chains and improve border security. In February 2024, CBP processed more than 2.6 million entry summaries valued at more than $255 billion , identifying estimated duties of nearly $6.5 billion to be collected by the U.S. government. In February, trade via the ocean environment accounted for 40.8% of the total import value, followed by air, truck, and rail.

Protecting Consumers, Eradicating Forced Labor from Supply Chains, and Promoting Economic Security     

CBP continues to lead U.S. government efforts to eliminate goods from the supply chain made with forced labor from the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region of China. In February, CBP stopped 540 shipments valued at more than $306 million for further examination based on the suspected use of forced labor.

Intellectual property rights violations continue to put America’s innovation economy at risk. Counterfeit and pirated goods threaten the competitiveness of U.S. businesses, the livelihoods of American workers, and the health and safety of consumers.

Consumers are encouraged to be alert to the dangers of counterfeit goods especially when shopping online as they support criminal activity, hurt American businesses, and often have materials or ingredients that can pose serious health and safety risks. Every year CBP seizes millions of counterfeit products worth billions of dollars had they been genuine. In February, CBP seized 1,645 shipments that contained counterfeit goods valued at more than $345 million. CBP is on the frontline of textiles and trade agreements enforcement, combating textile imports that are not compliant with U.S. trade laws. Protecting the domestic textile industry and American consumers is vital to U.S. national security, health care, and economic priorities. Toward this end, CBP is intensifying its targeting and enforcement efforts to increase and expedite the prosecution of illegal customs practices. CBP’s efforts include de minimis compliance, forced labor enforcement, cargo compliance, regulatory audits, and public awareness.

Defending our Nation’s Agricultural System     

Through targeting, detection, and interception, CBP agriculture specialists work to prevent threats from entering the United States.  

CBP issued 6,622 emergency action notifications for restricted and prohibited plant and animal products entering the United States in February 2024. CBP conducted 92,528 positive passenger inspections and issued 8 58 civil penalties and/or violations to the traveling public for failing to declare prohibited agriculture items.
