UAE Visa Ban

According to a WION report, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has extended the visa ban on Pakistani visitors, which previously applied to 22 cities, has now been extended to 24 cities.

Adnan Paracha, the Spokesperson for Pakistan Overseas Employment Association (POEA) said;

“The UAE imposed restrictions on the people of these cities because of the misstatement of the agents who sent them on visit visas but told them that they were being sent on a work visa.”

Reason Behind Visa Ban

According to Paracha, the visa ban issue is a result of fraud being carried out by travel agents.

“The UAE imposed restrictions on the people of these cities because of the misstatement of the agents who sent them on visit visas but told them that they were being sent on a work visa,” he stated.

“Later, when these people are unable to find employment, they begin to beg in the streets of UAE and are expelled by the government,” Paracha added,

Visa Ban on Pakistani Travellers from 24 Cities

According to the report, the UAE has imposed a visa ban on the cities of Dera Ghazi Khan, Dera Ismail Khan, Kurram Agency, Khoshab, Para Chinar, Sheikhupura, Abbottabad, Kasur, Larkana, Muzaffargarh, Nawabshah, Quetta, Sargodha, Attock, Chakwal, Bajaur Agency, Hangu, Kohat, Mohmand Agency, Sukkur, Skard.

Previously, the UAE imposed a visa ban on 12 cities in Pakistan. Later, the list was expanded to 22, then to 24.

The Pakistan Foreign Office, on the other hand, denied reports of the UAE’s ban on Pakistanis.

Covering up Adnan Paracha’s claim, Pakistan Foreign Office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch stated that visas for Pakistanis were not blacklisted or banned by the UAE.

“We have seen the reports and can confirm that the UAE has no such ban on issuing visas to Pakistani citizens,” Baloch said.

The UAE also refused to accept any visa ban imposed on Pakistani travellers.

UAE extends visa ban on visitors from Pakistan to curb begging problem

UAE extends visa ban on visitors from Pakistan to curb begging problem

Dubai: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has extended its visa ban on visitors from Pakistan. The ban has now been extended to 24 cities from the previous figure of 22.

“The UAE imposed restrictions on the people of these cities because of the misstatement of the agents who sent them on visit visas but told them that they were being sent on a work visa,” Adnan Paracha, spokesperson of Pakistan Overseas Employment Association (POEA), was quoted as saying by 24NewsHD.TV.

Paracha informed that fraud by travel agents is responsible for this issue.

“The UAE imposed restrictions on the people of these cities because of the misstatement of the agents who sent them on visit visas but told them that they were being sent on a work visa,” he claimed.

“Later, when these people are unable to find employment, they begin to beg in the streets of UAE and are expelled by the government,” he added.

The Pakistani cities on which the UAE has imposed a visa ban are: Abbottabad, Dera Ghazi Khan, Quetta, Khoshab, Muzaffargarh, Sargodha, Attock, Dera Ismail Khan, Kasur, Kurram Agency, Nawabshah, Sheikhupura, Bajaur Agency, Hangu, Kohat, Larkana, Para Chinar, Skardu, Chakwal, Hunza, Kotli, Mehmand Agency, Sahiwal, and Sukkur.

Earlier, the UAE had imposed a visa ban on 12 cities of Pakistan. The list was later increased to 22, and now stands at 24.

However, the Pakistan Foreign Office has denied that the UAE has imposed a ban on Pakistanis.

Pakistan Foreign Office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, covered up the claim of Adnan Paracha, and said that the UAE did not ban or blacklist the issuance of visas to Pakistanis belonging to specific cities.

“We have seen the reports and can confirm that no such ban is in place by UAE for issuance of visas to Pakistani citizens,” Pakistan Foreign Office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch said.

The UAE has also denied that there is a visa ban against visitors from Pakistan.

Last month, the UAE had implemented stricter visa rules for travelers from Pakistan. Under the new rules, Pakistanis with a single name in their passports will not be able to enter the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Ministry of Foreign Affairs lists nationalities exempt from pre-entry visa

STOCK DUBAI SKYLINE / BURJ KHALIFA / DOWNTOWN

Abu Dhabi: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced an update to its visa exemption policy, allowing citizens from 87 countries to enter the UAE without needing a pre-entry visa.

Get exclusive content with Gulf News WhatsApp channel

The initiative aims to simplify travel for tourists and foster a more accessible visitation process to the country.

According to the updated regulations, nationals from 110 countries are required to obtain a visa prior to their arrival in the UAE.

  • UAE visa update: Citizens of 82 countries can enter without prior visa
  • Citizens of these countries can enter the UAE visa-free: List of 80+ countries
  • UAE passport rises rank on more visa-free travel

Interested individuals can consult the list of exempted countries and visa requirements on the official website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (https://www.mofa.gov.ae/en/visa-exemptions-for-non-citizen) or contact the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Ports Security, and Customs (ICP) for additional information.

The UAE Digital Government clarified that GCC citizens do not need a visa or sponsorship to visit the country. They are eligible for entry by presenting a passport issued by a GCC state or an identity card upon arrival at UAE ports of entry.

Furthermore, individuals abroad are urged to visit the provided link (https://www.visitdubai.com/en/plan-your-trip/visa-information) to access the list of nationalities exempt from prior visa arrangements. Those eligible can obtain a valid entry visa for 30 days upon arrival, with a grace period of 10 days. Additionally, citizens from select countries can obtain a visa for 90 days upon arrival.

For example, citizens of India holding ordinary passports, a visit visa or permanent resident card issued by the USA, or a residence visa in the UK and European Union countries valid for at least six months, allows for a visa on arrival. This grants a stay of 14 days, with the option to extend for an additional 14 days.

In cases where prior visa arrangements are necessary, individuals not falling under visa exemption categories must obtain an entry permit issued by a sponsor before arriving in the UAE. The type of entry permit required, issued by the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs, depends on the purpose of the visit.

UAE visa on arrival for citizens of:

  • Czech Republic
  • El Salvador
  • Special Administrative Region of China

  • Republic of Ireland
  • Saint Vincent and the Grenadines

  • The UAE is the second largest labor market for Pakistan workers, after Saudi Arabia
  • UAE consul general in Karachi also says no ban imposed by his country’s government

ISLAMABAD: The foreign office said on Monday the United Arab Emirates (UAE) had not imposed a visa ban on Pakistani citizens hailing from ‘specific cities.’

The clarification was issued after media reports claimed UAE authorities were declining visas to Pakistani nationals from various cities across the country. According to one report, the decision was taken by the UAE after it was found that agents from certain cities in Pakistan were sending people to the Arab country on visit visas but promising them employment.

“We have seen the reports,” foreign office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch said in a statement quoted by state news agency the Associated Press of Pakistan. “We can confirm that no such ban is in place by UAE for issuance of visa to Pakistani citizens.”

Speaking to Geo News, the UAE consul general in Karachi also said no such ban had been imposed by his country’s government.

Pakistan has close ties with many Arab nations, especially Saudi Arabia and the UAE, which is the second largest labor market for Pakistan workers, after Saudi Arabia.

Pm sharif orders upgradation of road network to link reko diq project with gwadar.

  • Located in Pakistan’s Balochistan, Reko Diq contains one of the biggest undeveloped copper and gold deposits in the world
  • PM Sharif stresses need to benefit from mineral wealth in Balochistan through planning regarding communication infrastructure

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday ordered upgradation of an existing road network to connect Reko Diq mining project in the country’s southwest to the deep-sea port of Gwadar. The prime minister gave the instructions while presiding over a meeting in Lahore with regard to mines and minerals in the country’s southwestern Balochistan province. The meeting was also attended by Mark Bristow, chief executive of the Toronto-based firm Barrick Gold Corporation that has been working on the project. Located in Pakistan’s southwestern Chagai district, Reko Diq contains one of the biggest undeveloped copper and gold deposits in the world, with the potential to produce a large amount of these precious commodities for decades. During the meeting, PM Sharif stressed the need to benefit from the mineral wealth in Balochistan through comprehensive planning regarding communication infrastructure, including roads and a railway line. “Upgradation of the existing road network should be done as soon as possible to connect the Reko Diq project with Gwadar,” the prime minister was quoted as saying in a statement issued from his office. “Wherever new roads are being constructed, their completion should be expedited.” PM Sharif also directed officials to carve out a strategy regarding feasibility of a railway network from Reko Diq to the Gwadar port. The Reko Diq project underwent legal and financial disputes, though it is considered highly significant for Pakistan’s mining sector and the broader economy, with the potential to transform the economic landscape of Balochistan and contribute substantially to the country’s overall development. Separately, Barrick Gold Chief Executive Bristow said the Reko Diq project was “revolutionary” and would change the fate of Balochistan, Pakistan’s largest but most impoverished province, by revolutionizing the local economy, the state-run APP news agency reported. “An estimated $10 billion would be invested during next eight to nine years, which would boost the mining industry and the local economy,” Bristow was quoted as saying. He also underscored his company’s commitment to sustainable development, job creation and community empowerment in Balochistan, according to the report.

Pakistan cricket board reinstates fast bowler haris rauf’s central contract.

  • The PCB terminated Rauf’s central contract just two days ahead of the start of the Pakistan Super League last month
  • The PCB said it found Rauf’s explanation for making himself unavailable for the Test tour of Australia unsatisfactory

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Cricket Board has reinstated the central contract of fast bowler Haris Rauf less than six weeks after terminating it for his refusal to tour Australia. “There was a misunderstanding and an incorrect decision was taken,” PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi said on Sunday. “His contract has been restored. I was worried about him because he’s injured, and there were concerns about who would facilitate his treatment. We will now have insurance cover... because he’s our star player, and it’s important to take care of him.” The PCB terminated Rauf’s central contract just two days ahead of the start of the Pakistan Super League last month for making himself unavailable for the Test tour of Australia last year. The PCB had said it found Rauf’s explanation unsatisfactory when it terminated the fast bowler’s contract. Rauf struggled at the start of his PSL campaign before he was ruled out of the remainder of the event when he dislocated his shoulder while taking a catch. Former chief selector Wahab Riaz had criticized Rauf while naming the Test squad for the three-Test tour of Australia that Pakistan lost 3-0. But Naqvi said he received a letter from Rauf after his contract was terminated and the pace bowler “made his case very nicely” which prompted him to reinstate the contract. In another development, Naqvi announced a new selection committee that would not have a chairman of selectors. Former Pakistan internationals Riaz, Mohammad Yousuf, Abdul Razzaq and Asad Shafiq will be among the seven-member committee. The national team captain and head coach, who are both yet to be named and a data analyst will be the other members of the selection panel. “What’s different about this committee is that there will be no chairman of the selection committee, with every member having equal power,” Naqvi said. “They will make a majority decision based around debate and argument to reach satisfactory conclusions. We have looked at every single member of this committee to assess their merits and we are confident that we’ve made the right choices.”

Fast bowler Mohammad Amir says he is available for Pakistan T20 World Cup selection

  • The left-arm fast bowler played his last T20 international against England in August 2020 before he quit international cricket
  • Amir is the second Pakistan player who has come out of retirement in last two days and shown interest in returning to game

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir says he is available for the upcoming T20 World Cup after having “positive discussions” with Pakistan Cricket Board officials. The left-arm fast bowler played his last T20 international against England in August 2020 before he quit international cricket, saying he was mentally tortured. “I still dream to play for Pakistan!” the 31-year-old Amir wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Sunday. “Life brings us to the points where at times we have to reconsider our decisions. There have been a few positive discussions between myself and the PCB where they respectfully made me feel that I was needed and can still play for Pakistan, and after discussing with family and well wishers I declare that I am available to be considered for upcoming T20 WC. “I want do this for my country as it comes before my personal decisions. Donning the green jersey and serving my country has always been, and will continue to be, my greatest aspiration.” Amir is the second Pakistan player who has come out of retirement and shown interest in returning to international cricket over the last two days. On Saturday, all-rounder Imad Wasim said that he’s also available until the T20 World Cup after guiding Islamabad United to its third title in the Pakistan Super League earlier this week. Amir also played in the PSL for Quetta Gladiators and took 10 wickets in 9 games with an economy rate of 8.41. Both cricketers have experience of playing T20 league cricket in the West Indies, which is a T20 World Cup co-host nation alongside the United States.

Pakistanis urge government to take ‘decisive action’ for Gaza ceasefire, delivery of humanitarian aid

uae pakistan visit visa ban

  • The sit-in, organized by Save Gaza campaign, was attended by politicians, civil society members, journalists and students
  • Organizers demand Pakistan send a naval fleet to deliver substantial quantities of food, medicine and essential items to Gaza

ISLAMABAD: Pakistani protesters at a sit-in in Islamabad on Sunday demanded the government take “decisive action” and concrete steps for a ceasefire in Gaza and the establishment of a humanitarian assistance corridor for its residents. The day-long demonstration at Islamabad’s D-Chowk was organized by the Save Gaza campaign and attended by a large number of Pakistanis, including politicians, civil society members, journalists and students. Since October 7 attacks by Hamas, Israel’s devastating air and ground offensive has killed more than 32,000 Palestinians in Gaza Strip, according to the Palestinian health authorities. Referring to the Gaza situation, the organizers lamented the world inaction over the misery being piled on men, women, and children of Gaza by Israel. “We urge the Pakistani government to take decisive action for an immediate global intervention and heightened pressure for an immediate ceasefire,” Humaira Tayyaba, an organizer of the sit-in, told Arab News. Pakistan should establish a formal team to join South Africa in its petition in the International Court of Justice against Israel for committing “crimes against humanity,” she suggested. “Pakistan should also initiate proceedings on Israel’s war crimes in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC),” Tayyaba said. Mushtaq Ahmed, a former senator, said he came to show solidarity with the people of Gaza and to condemn the Israeli “crimes against humanity.” “We demand from the Pakistani government to move for an immediate ceasefire, to establish a humanitarian assistance corridor, and to start the proceedings against the war crime, the crime against humanity of the Israeli government,” he told Arab News. Maryam Nazir, media director of the Save Gaza campaign, said Israel was “weaponizing” hunger and starvation against the people of Gaza. “We are going to stay at D-Chowk until and unless we get a positive, decisive response from the Government of Pakistan toward a peaceful and just solution of this horrific genocide,” she told Arab News. Tayyaba urged the Pakistani government to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza, including the dispatch of a naval fleet to deliver substantial quantities of food, medicine, and essential supplies. Apart from weekly protests since Nov., she said, the Pakistani government had not taken effective steps toward a ceasefire in Gaza. “We are now arranging this sit-in because Pakistan’s government has not yet [issued] demarche to the United Kingdom and the United States ambassadors and also has not yet raised any voice at the international level for a ceasefire,” she said, adding their efforts would continue and the government would have to respond to their demands. Pakistan does not recognize the state of Israel and calls for an independent Palestinian state based on “internationally agreed parameters” and the pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital. In recent months, Pakistan’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Munir Akram, has repeatedly raised the Palestine issue at the world forum. Islamabad has also dispatched several aid consignments for the people of Gaza amid continuing Israeli strikes.

PM Sharif hands over charge of Pakistan’s top economic committee to finance minister

uae pakistan visit visa ban

  • PM Sharif appointed himself as chair of the Economic Coordination Committee on Friday
  • ECC is a government committee tasked with taking important decisions on Pakistan’s economy

ISLAMABAD: A day after appointing himself chair of the country’s top economic committee, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday reshuffled it by handing back the committee’s charge to Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, a notification by the Cabinet Division said. The Economic Coordination Committee (ECCI) is one of the most important cabinet committees in every government and is tasked with deliberating on the country’s urgent economic matters and putting forward proposals to regulate policies to maximize production and exports, and prevent inflation. The finance minister of every government usually leads the ECC. However, a notification released by the Cabinet Division on Friday said Sharif had constituted the ECC with himself as its chair, comprising ministers of economic affairs, commerce, power, petroleum and planning. In a fresh notification on Saturday, however, the Cabinet Division said Sharif had “reconstituted” the committee with the finance minister as its chairman. In the new committee, the prime minister is not a member of the ECC. “The Prime Minister, in terms of Rule 17 (2) of Rules of Business, 1973, has been pleased to reconstitute the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet,” the notification read. Other members of the committee remained the same: the ministers of economic affairs, commerce, power, petroleum and planning. It remains unclear why the prime minister reversed his decision and handed the chairmanship of the committee to the finance minister. Quoting a senior member of the cabinet without naming them, Pakistani newspaper Dawn said the prime minster had “regretted he would be unable to chair the ECC meetings due to his hectic schedule and engagements.” Last Sunday, the prime minister made an important change in his 19-member cabinet when he replaced Dr. Musadik Masood Malik with Sardar Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari as the minister of power. Cash-strapped Pakistan is trying to negotiate a long-term bailout program with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to stave off an economic crisis. The South Asian country’s fragile $350 billion economy needs external financing to avert a balance of payments crisis. Pakistan’s economic crisis has seen inflation hover around 30 percent and economic growth slow to around 2 percent.

UAE assured visa ban ‘temporary’ to check COVID, says Pakistan

Pakistan foreign office statement says pandemic forced UAE visa restrictions and not ‘security concerns’ as reported earlier.

uae pakistan visit visa ban

Pakistan says it has been assured by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) that the abrupt visa ban imposed last month is “temporary in nature” and were imposed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

A statement released on Sunday by the Pakistani foreign office said the Gulf state’s Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan “[reaffirmed] the UAE’s appreciation of the 1.5 million strong Pakistani community and their active contribution to the growth and prosperity of the country”.

Pakistan fm says expects uae visa ban issue to be ‘resolved soon’, uae halts new visas to citizens of 13 mostly muslim states, explainer: what the f-35 sales to uae could mean for the region.

The statement came days after Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi concluded his two-day trip to the UAE aimed at seeking a resolution to the visa ban.

On November 18, the UAE abruptly halted the issuance of new visas to citizens of 13 mainly Muslim-majority countries over “security concerns”, according to a Reuters news agency report.

The countries were Afghanistan, Algeria, Iran, Iraq, Kenya, Lebanon, Libya, Pakistan, Somalia, Syria, Tunisia, Turkey and Yemen. Citizens of those countries who were already in the UAE did not appear to be affected by the new restrictions.

The UAE said applications for new employment and visit visas for the citizens from these mostly Muslim-majority nations were suspended until further notice.

Qureshi undertook a two-day trip to the UAE earlier this week and met his UAE counterpart and other top officials to discuss various matters, including the impasse on the issuance of new visas.

“The Pakistani community and our diaspora in the UAE have contributed significantly to the UAE’s progress and development and it is acknowledged and appreciated and we are grateful for that. There are some issues of concern that I discussed and I am expecting a resolution of them,” Qureshi told a news conference in Abu Dhabi on Friday.

A day before that, Qureshi held talks with Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai, who also serves as the UAE’s prime minister, vice president and defence minister, in Dubai on the visa ban.

The UAE is home to the second largest population of overseas Pakistanis in the world, according to government data, and is a key source of foreign currency for Pakistan in the form of those workers’ remittances back home.

Last month, an estimated 1.5 million Pakistanis in the UAE sent home $519.5m, accounting for 22 percent of all foreign remittances and ranking second overall in remittances by country, according to Pakistan’s central bank data.

Saudi Arabia leads that list, with Pakistani workers there sending home $615.1m in November.

Has UAE restricted visit visa for citizens from these Pakistani cities?

LAHORE – The United Arab Emirates Consul General has denied the reports that authorities in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have restricted visit visas for Pakistanis belonging to some specific cities.

The restriction was not officially announced, but people with certain cities as their ‘place of birth’ faced hiccups in securing the visit visa for Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah.

Despite the denial, some travel agents whose clients have been victims of this restriction say that Pakistani citizens having the following cities as their 'place of birth' might not get the UAE to visit visa:

Abbottabad, Attock, Bajaur Agency, Chakwal, Dera Ghazi Khan, Dera Ismail Khan, Hangu, Hunza, Quetta, Kasur, Kohat, Kotli AJK, Khushab, Kurram Agency, Larkana, Mohmand Agency, Muzaffargarh, Nawabshah, Parachinar, Sahiwal, Sargodha, Sheikhupura, Skardu and Sukkur.

uae pakistan visit visa ban

The restriction doesn’t mean all visa applications would be rejected, but chances are slim Pakistanis having the cities above as their 'place of birth' will get a UAE to visit visa, despite the clarification.

On the other hand, the Consul General of the United Arab Emirates in Karachi, H.E Bakheet Ateeq Al Romaithi has quashed the impression that visit visas are being denied to people from specific cities of origin.

'No ban has been imposed on Pakistani citizens and visas are being issued indiscriminately,' he told a private TV channel and added that he himself was issuing visas to people belonging to different cities.

The official expressed remorse over the news and stated that he was unaware of who was behind this disinformation campaign.

Besides the official version, Daily Pakistan got in touch with immigration officials in Lahore and one of them said on condition of anonymity that the restriction has been imposed by the UAE immigration authorities due to multiple reasons, including visa rules violations.

"Potential visitors with a clean travel history and sound bank statement still have good chances of getting a UAE visit visa," he said.

He said that initially the restriction was imposed on visa seekers from 6 Pakistani cities, but later the number of cities was increased to 24.

"The immigration department gives go-ahead only to potential visitors with approximately 5,000 DHS and a return ticket," said the official.

It is to be mentioned that UAE hosts about 1.7 million Pakistanis, the second largest Pakistani expat community in the world.

The data by the State Bank of Pakistan confirms that the volume of remittances from the UAE to Pakistan in fiscal year 2022 was $2555.22 million, implying that a sizeable Pakistani workforce is employed in the country in diverse fields from banks to real estate.

Is UAE not giving visas to Pakistan citizens? Its clarification

Bakheet Ateeq Al Remeithi, consulate general of the UAE in Karachi said that the UAE government has not imposed any such ban.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Monday denied reports of not providing visas to Pakistani citizens belonging to certain cities and termed it as fake news, reported Geo News.

Bakheet Ateeq Al Remeithi, consulate general of the UAE in Karachi said that the UAE government has not imposed any such ban.(Representational)

"Reports were being circulated that the gulf country is not allowing visas to citizens from some of the Pakistani cities including Abbottabad, Attock, Bajaur Agency, Chakwal, Dera Ghazi Khan, Dera Ismail Khan, Hangu, Hunza, Quetta, Kasur, Kohat, Kotli, Khushab, Khurrum Agency, Larkana, Mohmand Agency, Muzaffargarh, Nawabshah, Parachinar, Sahiwal, Sargodha, Sheikhupura, Skardu and Sukkur," according to Geo News.

People belonging to the above-mentioned cities were warned not to apply for visas. "Your visa will be rejected and the fee is non-refundable," reports read.

Remeithi while expressing his regret over the reports said that Pakistani citizens are being provided visas and they can apply to visit the UAE.

"He told that apart from the consulates in Islamabad and Lahore, he is personally issuing visas to the citizens born or residing in these cities, from the Karachi consulate," reported Geo News.

According to Remeithi, rumours like these are spread from time to time.

Recently, a proposal to ban Schengen visas for Russia was put forward to the European Union for discussion, official spokesman of the German Cabinet Steffen Hebestreit said, adding that Berlin took note of that.

"It was put forward by certain countries in the EU and is thereby on the agenda. The German government should now discuss it among Cabinet members and inside the EU. These discussions are not completed and therefore I cannot tell you about interim results," Hebestreit said during a media briefing, as per TASS news agency.

"I request you to have patience," the spokesman said, adding that "The German government took note of such proposal at the EU level."

The United States also recently introduced visa restrictions on 28 Cuban officials, including Cuban government employees and high-ranking members of the Cuban Communist Party, Secretary of State Antony Blinken said.

The 28 officials included officials involved in the alleged crackdown on the protests of July 11, 2021. Among them were high-ranking members of the Cuban Communist Party responsible for defining policy at the national and provincial levels.

There is no ban on work visas for Pakistanis in the UAE, said Afzaal Mahmood, Pakistan's Ambassador to the UAE.

“People used to contact us to inquire about work visa ban. There is no ban on a work visa for Pakistanis and people are coming here for employment. There is a very interesting area where a lot of Pakistani workers moved to the UAE and that is the home delivery segment," he said during a media interaction on Friday.

A large number of local home delivery companies have recruited Pakistanis because they are "very skilful and efficient," Mahmood added.

But he also advised Pakistanis to be vigilant, as there are several agents who try to lure people with fake jobs. Those who fall for the guise and come to the UAE end up with mounting legal issues.

“It becomes difficult to get out of legal issues. So, my message to Pakistanis coming to the UAE for jobs is that please be careful and don’t play in the hands of selfish agents," Mahmood said.

There are approximately 1.6 million Pakistanis currently living and working in the UAE. The Emirates is home to the second-largest diaspora of Pakistanis after Saudi Arabia and remit billions of dollars every year.

Pakistan Business Forum launched

The ambassador announced the launch of the Pakistan Business Forum to improve manpower in the UAE as well as boost trade and investment between the two nations.

“The forum will meet every month to strategise and take inputs of the members on how to improve trade, investment and manpower to the UAE. In each meeting, three to five members will get a chance to speak and share their suggestions on improving trade development and connecting the business community of the two countries. All Pakistanis are welcome to contribute in whatever way they can to promote economic and trade ties between UAE and Pakistan,” added the ambassador.

He also revealed that Pakistan’s exports to the UAE increased more than eight per cent last year.

Is Pakistan on the list? UAE announces Dubai visit visa ban for 20 countries

uae pakistan visit visa ban

DUBAI – The United Arab Emirates has imposed a ban on issuance of Dubai visit visa to nationals of 20 countries due to overstaying and illegal working activities.

A German media outlet reported that the ban has been imposed on nationals of 20 African countries and it has come into effect immediately.

The countries facing ban include Ghana, Sierra Leone, Sudan, Cameroon, Nigeria, Liberia, Burundi, Republic of Guinea, Gambia, Togo, Democratic Republic of Cogno, Senegal, Benin, Ivory Coast, Congo, Rwanda, Burkina Faso, Guinea Bissau and Comoros.

The development comes a month after the UAE announced a new visa regime, deciding that no visit visa will be issued to citizens of Nigeria below the age of 40 years.

Fortunately, Pakistan nationals are free to get a visit visa to travel to the Gulf state.
